IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Seih Al Uraibi

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Seih Al Uraibi returns a list of people sorted by distance. This page sorts them by syllabus instead: which command terms a paper uses, what each component is worth, which criterion letter an internal assessment is marked against, and how a past paper should be worked so it teaches something. IB Gram teaches Ras Al Khaimah students one-to-one over live video, matched to the paper rather than to the street.

  • Matched to a named component: Paper 3 HL, 0580 Paper 4, 4PH1 Paper 2
  • Command-term drilling against the published assessment criteria
  • Timed past papers marked to the official scheme, then re-sat
  • Delivered one-to-one over live video, not by home visit

IB & IGCSE in Seih Al Uraibi

What a syllabus-level tutor does differently in an hour

There are two kinds of tutoring hour. In the first, a tutor re-explains a topic the student has already heard explained, more slowly and more kindly, and everyone leaves feeling better. In the second, the tutor opens a marked paper, finds the three question types that cost the most marks, identifies whether the loss was content, method, command-term misreading or timing, and fixes one of them. Both hours cost the same. Only one of them changes a grade.

The second kind requires something specific: knowledge of the assessment instrument, not just the subject. An IB Diploma student and an IGCSE student in the same house in Seih Al Uraibi are being measured by completely different machinery. The Diploma student has internal assessment marked against criterion letters with published descriptors, papers with fixed percentage weightings that differ between Higher and Standard Level, and a core of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay with word limits that are themselves marked. The IGCSE student has externally examined papers, tiering decisions that cap or raise the available grade, and board-specific conventions that change between Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel.

A tutor who knows the subject but not the instrument gives good explanations and leaves marks on the table. A student can understand electrolysis perfectly and still lose half the marks on an electrolysis question because the command term was describe rather than explain, or because the half-equation was written without balancing charge. Those are not knowledge failures. They are instrument failures, and they are the most fixable thing in a tutoring hour. The same pattern shows up in English, where a student who can discuss a poem fluently loses the analysis marks because the answer names the device and never reaches its effect on the reader, and in Economics, where fluent prose sits beneath a diagram with unlabelled axes and earns nothing for the diagram at all.

This page is therefore organised by assessment rather than by neighbourhood. It sets out the paper structures and weightings a Ras Al Khaimah family deals with, the command terms that decide marks, the criterion letters an internal assessment is actually marked against, and a method for working past papers that produces learning rather than a score. Where there is a trap, it is named.

One practical matter first, because the search phrase deserves an honest answer. Near me, in Seih Al Uraibi, returns a small list, and once you narrow it to a named component it gets smaller still. IB Gram does not solve that by sending someone to your address; there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and that service exists only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is what makes a component-level match possible at all in a market this size.

At a glance

  • IB internal assessment is marked on criterion letters with published descriptors, not on a single mark out of twenty
  • Component weightings differ between Higher and Standard Level in the same subject
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel use different paper structures and different formula-sheet policies
  • Command terms are defined vocabulary and the mark scheme follows them literally
  • A past paper worked without the mark scheme teaches almost nothing
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Seih Al Uraibi families deal with three assessment regimes, sometimes two of them in the same household. Each is described here by how it is measured rather than by how it is marketed.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internal assessment marked against lettered criteria by the teacher and moderated externally, and externally examined papers with fixed weightings. The core is where self-managed deadlines bite hardest.

In Ras Al Khaimah the Diploma runs principally at the RAK Academy campuses on the coast, so a Seih Al Uraibi family on this route is driving out of the city twice a day. Supervision capacity for the Extended Essay is correspondingly spread, and a supervisor may be allocated outside their subject specialism because the cohort is small.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced throughout, with four criteria per subject group and no external papers unless the school enters students for eAssessment. Students arrive in the Diploma fluent in criteria language and sometimes short on timed-paper stamina, which is the single most common transition problem reported by Diploma teachers.

The MYP to Diploma step is sharper here than in a larger market because there are fewer parallel classes to absorb a struggling student. A Seih Al Uraibi student moving from MYP into Diploma Mathematics usually needs algebraic fluency rebuilt before anything else, and it is cheaper to do that in the summer than in November of the first Diploma year.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel

Externally examined at the end of two years. Cambridge subjects are identified by four-digit codes and several are tiered Core or Extended, which caps or raises the available grade. Pearson Edexcel codes look like 4MA1 or 4CH1, and the board's formula-sheet and tiering policies differ from Cambridge's in ways that change revision priorities.

RAK city schools use a mixture of boards, and families often learn which one applies only when the statement of entry arrives. For a tutor this is the first question, not a detail: coaching Cambridge 0580 technique to a Pearson 4MA1 candidate wastes the hours spent on recall the formula sheet would have supplied.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

IB Diploma subjects, described by where the marks sit rather than by what the course covers. Weightings differ by level and should be confirmed against the current subject guide through your child's school.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic manipulation carry the Higher Level load. The exploration is marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Most lost marks in the exploration sit in reflection, where students describe what they did instead of evaluating what it showed.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology use dominate. Graphical display calculator technique is examinable in itself, and candidates lose marks by presenting a correct result without the command the examiner can see. Modelling questions reward stating assumptions explicitly.

Physics

HL and SL

Higher Level adds depth rather than breadth in several topics, and the data-analysis questions punish sloppy uncertainty handling. Definitions are marked literally: a definition of field strength that omits per unit mass or charge earns nothing, however well the student understands it.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are where Higher Level separates from Standard. Students lose marks writing mechanisms without curly arrows starting from a lone pair or a bond, and on calculations where significant figures are not carried consistently.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume is the problem and precision is the solution. Extended-response questions want a named mechanism in sequence, and examiners do not credit paraphrase of defined terms. Statistical reasoning in data questions is routinely weaker than the content knowledge around it.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy is marked separately from the prose: axes labelled, curves labelled, shift drawn, new equilibrium identified. Higher Level adds quantitative questions where candidates who have practised only essays struggle. Evaluation marks need a stated condition, not a balanced-sounding final paragraph.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the stimulus material is the dividing line. Candidates who answer from the textbook rather than from the case lose application and analysis marks even when the theory is right. Tools must be used on the data provided, with a conclusion that follows from it.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper-based analysis both reward a line of argument sustained across a text, with quotation followed by effect on the reader. Higher Level adds the essay component, where structure and a controlling thesis matter more than coverage of the work.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed on an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. Students lose marks by writing about the topic rather than about knowledge, which is a habit a tutor can break quickly by making every claim name its knower, its method and its limit.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research essay with a formal supervision process and a reflection requirement. Most weak essays fail on research question scope rather than on writing. A tutor can interrogate the question and the method; the essay itself must be the student's own work.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE side of the same household, described by paper rather than by topic list. Codes are given because the paper structure depends on them.

Mathematics 0580 / 4MA1

Core and Extended / Foundation and Higher

Extended candidates lose most marks on functions, graph transformations and conditional probability. Method marks are available almost everywhere, so unshown working is the largest single avoidable loss. Pearson supplies a formula sheet Cambridge does not.

Physics 0625 / 4PH1

Core and Extended / single tier

Circuits are the standard failure point, especially potential dividers and distinguishing potential difference across a component from current through it. The alternative-to-practical paper rewards method writing with named control variables.

Chemistry 0620 / 4CH1

Core and Extended / single tier

Moles calculations and qualitative-analysis tables carry a disproportionate share of lost marks. Electrolysis half-equations must balance charge as well as atoms, and reaction conditions are asked for far more often than nomenclature.

Biology 0610 / 4BI1

Core and Extended / single tier

Transport, enzymes and inheritance diagrams reward defined vocabulary used precisely. Six-mark questions need a structured mechanism rather than a list, and graph-description questions want the trend quantified from the axes.

Economics 0455 / 4EC1

Single tier

Data-response questions must use the figures in the extract. Candidates import textbook examples and lose application marks. Diagrams are marked on labelling and the position of the new equilibrium, not on neatness.

Computer Science 0478

Single tier

The board's own pseudocode conventions are examinable, so students who code fluently in Python still lose marks. Trace tables under timed conditions and the validation-versus-verification distinction are the two reliable mark earners.

Additional Mathematics 0606

Single tier

Calculus, logarithms and the binomial theorem at a depth 0580 never reaches, taken as a bridge to A Level. Teaching capacity for this paper in the northern emirates is genuinely thin, which is why it appears on this page at all.

English First Language 0500 / 4EA1

Single tier

Directed writing is marked on register and audience, so a strong essay written in place of the requested letter caps its own mark. Analysis answers need quotation then effect, expressed in terms of the reader.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a component-level problem gets fixed. Each is delivered one-to-one over live video, because a paper is best worked with the paper on screen between tutor and student.

Component diagnosis and repair

The default format. The student brings a marked paper or internal assessment draft, the tutor reads the examiner's or teacher's comments with them, and the session addresses one named loss: a command term misread, a mechanism written without arrows, working not shown. One component per block rather than a general sweep of the subject.

  • Starts from work that has already been marked
  • Targets one component, not a whole subject
  • Ends with a specific re-attempt as the task
  • Progress measured in marks on the re-attempt

Timed past-paper cycles

A full paper under exam conditions, then self-marking against the official scheme with the tutor present to adjudicate, then a re-sit of the questions that were lost. The adjudication step is the one students skip on their own, and it is where the learning actually happens because it forces the mark scheme's language into use.

  • Whole paper, correct duration, no interruptions
  • Student marks first; tutor challenges generous self-marking
  • Lost questions re-sat the following session
  • Works from papers the student legitimately holds through school

Internal assessment and Extended Essay process coaching

For Diploma students, structured interrogation of the student's own work against the published criteria: is the research question answerable in the word limit, does the reflection evaluate rather than describe, is the method defensible. The tutor questions and gives feedback. The writing is the student's, without exception.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research-question scope tested before the work begins
  • Word and page limits treated as marked constraints
  • No drafting, completion or editing-to-finish of assessed work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Seih Al Uraibi

01

Command terms: the vocabulary the mark scheme obeys

  • State: a fact, no justification, no credit for extra
  • Describe: features in sequence, no causal mechanism needed
  • Explain: a mechanism, with causation made explicit
  • Evaluate and justify: a judgement with a stated condition
  • Analyse in English: quotation, then effect on the reader

The fastest grade improvement available to most students has nothing to do with knowing more. It comes from reading the first word of the question properly. Both the IB and the Cambridge and Pearson boards publish defined command terms, and mark schemes follow them literally rather than generously.

State and describe are not synonyms. State wants a fact with no justification and no credit for extra; describe wants the features in sequence; explain wants a mechanism with a because in it; evaluate wants a judgement with a stated condition; discuss wants both sides before the judgement; justify wants a reason specifically supporting the stated conclusion. A student who explains when the paper said state has written something true that earns nothing extra, and lost the time. A student who describes when the paper said explain has written half an answer and will not see why the mark was withheld.

In the sciences this is compounded by definitional strictness. A Physics definition that omits per unit mass, or a Chemistry answer that gives the reagent but not the condition, is incomplete by the scheme even where the understanding behind it is sound. In Economics an evaluation that lists advantages and disadvantages without arriving at a conditional judgement cannot reach the top band however fluent the prose. In English, analyse requires effect on the reader rather than restatement of the device.

A tutor's job here is mechanical and quick. Take the last marked paper, list every question where marks were lost, and sort the losses into content, command term, method shown and timing. Most students find the command-term column is the largest, and it is the one that closes inside two or three sessions of deliberate drilling.

02

How the papers are weighted, and why that changes a revision plan

Revision time should follow the weighting, and students almost never allocate it that way. They revise what they enjoy, or what they last failed, rather than what is worth the most marks per hour invested. The table sets out the component structures a Seih Al Uraibi family deals with so the allocation can be made deliberately.

Two features of the IB structure matter most. First, internal assessment is worth a meaningful share of the final subject grade and is marked against criteria the student can read in advance, which makes it the most controllable marks on the course. Second, Higher Level is not Standard Level plus an extra paper in every subject; the additional component and the extra depth change what the earlier papers can ask, so an HL student revising from SL material is under-prepared in a way that is invisible until a past paper is attempted.

On the IGCSE side the decisive structural feature is tiering. A Cambridge Core entry caps the available grade; an Extended entry raises the ceiling and raises the difficulty of the questions on the same topics. A tiering decision made in Year 10 on the basis of a bad term can hold down a student who has since improved, and it is worth asking the school to revisit rather than assuming it is fixed. Pearson's single-tier papers in several subjects remove that decision but introduce their own difference, including a formula sheet in maths that changes what has to be memorised.

Confirm every weighting against the current subject guide or specification through your child's school before building a plan on it. Boards revise structures, and a weighting copied from a tutoring page is exactly the kind of detail that goes quietly out of date.

03

Criterion letters: what an internal assessment is actually marked on

IB internal assessment is not marked out of a number. It is marked against lettered criteria, each with its own descriptors and its own mark allocation, and the student can read those descriptors before writing a word. No competitor page in this market names a single criterion letter, which is remarkable given that this is the most controllable component on the course.

The practical consequence is that a student can audit their own draft. If a criterion rewards personal engagement, a draft with no evidence of independent decision-making cannot score in the top band regardless of how good the mathematics is. If a criterion rewards reflection, a conclusion that summarises what was done rather than evaluating what it showed sits in the middle band by definition. Students lose marks in predictable places, and the places are written down.

This is also where the academic-honesty boundary has to be explicit. A tutor can ask whether the research question is answerable, point at a criterion and ask the student to show where their draft meets it, and explain why a paragraph does not. A tutor cannot write, draft, complete or produce the internal assessment, the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay or any assessed piece. IB Gram does not do that, and at least one provider ranking for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright. That is a malpractice trigger for the student, not a time-saver.

Criterion names and mark allocations differ between subjects and are revised periodically, so take them from the current subject guide via your child's teacher rather than from any website. What does not change is the method: read the descriptors, audit the draft against them, and rewrite the weakest criterion first.

04

Working a past paper so that it teaches something

  • Whole paper, correct duration, nothing open
  • Mark against the official scheme, not an answer key
  • Have the self-marking challenged; this is the step that teaches
  • Re-sit only the lost questions, cold, a few days later
  • Six papers worked properly beat twenty papers scored

Most students use past papers badly, and the failure is consistent enough to be fixed in one session. They do the paper with the book open, stop when they get stuck, check answers rather than mark schemes, and record a score. That produces a number and no learning.

The method that works has four steps and the third is the one everyone skips. Sit the whole paper in the correct duration with nothing open. Mark it against the official mark scheme rather than an answer key, because the scheme shows which words earn the mark and an answer key does not. Then adjudicate honestly, which for most students means having someone challenge their generous self-marking, since the gap between what they meant and what they wrote is exactly where the lost marks live. Finally, re-sit only the questions that were lost, a few days later, cold.

The adjudication step is the argument for a tutor rather than a study group. A student marking alone will award themselves the mark for an answer that contains the right idea in the wrong words, which is precisely the answer an examiner rejects. A tutor who knows the scheme's language will not, and after three or four papers of that friction the student starts writing in the scheme's terms unprompted. That is the point at which past papers stop being assessment and start being teaching.

Volume matters less than parents assume. Six papers worked this way beat twenty papers scored and filed. For a Seih Al Uraibi student with a full school timetable and a commute, six is also achievable in the final weeks, which twenty is not.

05

Mathematics AA or AI, and the consequence for university

  • AA is the proof and calculus route; AI is statistics and modelling
  • Neither is easier; they reward different strengths
  • Several degree subjects expect AA, often at Higher Level
  • Check current entry requirements for the specific universities, every year
  • Decide at the MYP to Diploma transition, not in the second year

The most consequential subject decision an IB student in Ras Al Khaimah makes is between Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, and it is frequently made on the wrong basis.

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and proof-based route, with calculus at its centre. Applications and Interpretation is the statistical and modelling route, with technology use integral to the course. Neither is the easy option; they are different courses with different demands, and a student strong at manipulation and weak at interpretation will find AI harder than AA despite its reputation. The honest test is what the student is good at, cross-checked against what their intended degree requires.

The consequence sits at admission. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, and a student arriving with AI can find a course closed regardless of their points total. Requirements vary by university and by year, so the only safe method is to read the current entry requirements for the specific programmes under consideration, including any UAE universities, and work backwards. This is also why the choice should be made in the MYP to Diploma transition rather than revisited in the second Diploma year, when a change is disruptive and sometimes impossible.

For a tutor the difference is practical. An AA student needs proof technique, algebraic fluency and calculus confidence. An AI student needs statistical reasoning, modelling discipline and calculator command fluency, with assumptions stated explicitly. Both need exploration coaching against the criteria, but the content work shares very little.

06

Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel for the same subject

A Ras Al Khaimah family comparing two schools is often comparing two boards without realising it, and the difference changes what tutoring has to do.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March sitting is offered to India only, so a RAK candidate sits June with November as the resit route. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school which zone it sits in before building a schedule.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in May/June and in November each year. Its November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Results timing differs from Cambridge's and affects resit planning: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, and those are subject to revision, so any plan should be built against the live official timetable rather than against dates restated elsewhere.

For the student the differences that actually bite are smaller and more specific than the branding suggests: tiering policy, whether a formula sheet is supplied, how practical skills are assessed on paper, and the house style of the mark scheme. Those are the things a tutor matched by board gets right and a tutor matched by subject guesses at.

The mandatory UAE subjects running alongside the main course

A student in Seih Al Uraibi is not only sitting IB or IGCSE papers. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations, so a second set of assessed subjects runs in parallel all year.

The requirement is federal and the detail is worth knowing because it is tightly specified where it has been published. KHDA's guidance for Dubai, which is the most detailed public statement of how these subjects are organised, requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited due to the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. It sets Standard Arabic as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic as the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

One constraint affects tutoring directly: for these subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. So support here means working within the school's prescribed material rather than importing an alternative syllabus, which is a narrower brief than parents often expect. KHDA also requires that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate approval to teach those subjects in Dubai schools, which is a reasonable credential question to ask anywhere.

The practical effect on a revision plan in Ras Al Khaimah is scheduling. Arabic and Islamic Education assessments follow the school's internal calendar, not the board's, and they frequently land in the same fortnight as IGCSE mocks or Diploma internal deadlines. Mapping both calendars onto one sheet in September prevents the collision that otherwise gets discovered in week one of the mock window.

Where we tutor

Where the students on this page actually study

Seih Al Uraibi students are spread across a small number of campuses, and which one they attend changes which assessment regime the tutoring has to serve. These are the districts and what they feed into.

Seih Al Uraibi

City district near the industrial and port roads. Children here mostly attend the Indian and British curriculum campuses behind the city centre, so IGCSE assessment dominates and Diploma candidates are the minority who travel out to the coast.

Al Nakheel

The adjacent apartment district, feeding the same city campuses. Larger IGCSE cohorts mean wider option blocks, which in practice means more students taking Additional Mathematics 0606 and more demand for a paper almost nobody teaches locally.

Al Uraibi and Al Mairid

Older central districts close to the commercial core. Short school runs, so a 4pm start is viable, and a mixture of Cambridge and Pearson entries within the same street depending on campus.

Khuzam

One of the RAK Academy campuses sits here, running the IB continuum. Students in Khuzam are more likely to be on MYP or Diploma assessment than on IGCSE, which changes the tutoring brief from papers to criteria.

Al Hamra Village

Coastal community with IB continuum campuses nearby. Diploma candidates here are working to internal deadlines for the Extended Essay and internal assessments set by a small faculty, so supervision is thin and external interrogation of a draft is valuable.

Al Dhait North and South

Inland villa districts with a longer run back into the city. Predominantly IGCSE families. The commute pushes sessions past five o'clock, which matters when a timed past paper needs a full uninterrupted hour.

Al Qusaidat and Al Mamourah

Northern residential districts serving mainly Indian-curriculum campuses, with Cambridge IGCSE entries concentrated in the science subjects. Pearson cohorts here are small, so board-specific help is harder to find locally than Cambridge help.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Seih Al Uraibi

Ras Al Khaimah city campuses: IGCSE assessment

The campuses serving Seih Al Uraibi and the central districts run British and Indian curricula with IGCSE at sixteen. Cohorts are the largest in the emirate, so option blocks are wider, but per-student teacher time is thinner and the Year 9 to Year 10 jump into an Extended syllabus is where most families first ask for help.

  • The Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • RAK English Speaking School

The coastal campuses: IB continuum assessment

RAK Academy runs the IB continuum at Al Hamra and Khuzam, so Diploma and MYP criterion-referenced assessment lives out of the city. Private schools across the emirate sit under the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge, which regulates private education in the emirate and approves curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam

These schools are named to describe the local assessment landscape; IB Gram asserts no affiliation with, or endorsement from, any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the component, not the subject

Tell us the paper or the criterion: 0625 Paper 4, 4MA1 Paper 2H, Physics HL Paper 3, or the exploration criterion the teacher flagged. If you have the syllabus code from the statement of entry, send that too. This is the detail that makes a component-level match possible instead of a subject-level guess.

  2. 02

Bring marked work to the free trial

The first lesson is free and works best on paper your child has already lost marks on. The tutor sorts the losses into content, command term, working shown and timing, and tells you which column is largest. You get that in writing, naming the questions, rather than a general impression of how the hour went.

  3. 03

Fix one column at a time

Command-term losses close fastest, usually in two or three sessions of deliberate drilling. Content gaps take longer and are scheduled around the school's own coverage. Method and working losses are habit, fixed by marking the student's own script against the scheme until the habit changes. Blocks are set against one column, not against a vague improvement.

  4. 04

Move to timed papers with adjudication

Once the named losses close, sessions switch to whole papers in the correct duration, self-marked against the official scheme with the tutor challenging generous marking, then lost questions re-sat cold. Six papers worked this way is a realistic target in the final weeks for a student with a full timetable.

  5. 05

Say when the match is wrong

If the component fit is right and the working relationship is not, ask for a rematch and the written diagnosis travels to the new tutor. For a scarce paper such as Additional Mathematics 0606 there may be no specialist free, and you will be told that rather than offered a near-enough substitute who will be learning the paper alongside your child.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Assessment literacy, not just subject knowledge

Tutors are matched to a named component and work from the published criteria and mark schemes. Most lost marks in a Seih Al Uraibi student's folder are instrument failures rather than knowledge failures, and those are the fastest thing in the folder to fix.

The criterion letters get named

No competitor page in this market names a single internal-assessment criterion. Ours does, and the method follows from it: read the descriptors, audit the draft against them, rewrite the weakest criterion first, and never let anyone else hold the pen.

Board-specific rather than subject-generic

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ on tiering, formula provision and mark-scheme house style. A tutor matched by code gets those right. A tutor matched by subject guesses, and the guess costs a term.

Past papers used as teaching, not scoring

Whole paper, correct duration, official scheme, adjudicated self-marking, lost questions re-sat cold. The adjudication step is the one students cannot do alone, and it is the reason the method works.

Honest about what is not available

Additional Mathematics 0606 and some Pearson science codes have thin coverage. When no specialist is free you hear it, because a near-enough tutor on a scarce paper is how a family loses a term.

No regulator and no board is claimed as a backer

The Department of Knowledge, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson and the IB appear on this page because families need to understand them. None of them approves, accredits or endorses IB Gram.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Seih Al Uraibi: your questions answered

What does a syllabus-level IB IGCSE tutor near me in Seih Al Uraibi actually do?+

They work from the assessment instrument rather than from the topic list. That means opening your child's last marked paper, sorting the lost marks into content, command term, working shown and timing, then fixing the largest column first. For a Diploma student it also means auditing an internal assessment draft against the published criterion descriptors. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE, which is how a component-level match becomes possible in a market this size.

Why do command terms matter so much on an IGCSE or IB paper?+

Because mark schemes follow them literally. State wants a fact with no credit for extra. Describe wants features in sequence. Explain wants a mechanism with causation made explicit. Evaluate and justify want a judgement with a stated condition. A student who explains when the paper said state has written something true that earns nothing additional and has lost the time. A student who describes when the paper said explain has written half an answer. Deliberate drilling closes this column in two or three sessions, which makes it the cheapest grade movement available.

How should my child in Seih Al Uraibi be using past papers?+

Whole paper, correct duration, nothing open. Then mark it against the official mark scheme rather than an answer key, because the scheme shows which words earn the mark. Then have the self-marking challenged, since students award themselves credit for the right idea in the wrong words, which is exactly the answer an examiner rejects. Then re-sit only the lost questions, cold, a few days later. Six papers worked that way beat twenty papers scored and filed, and six is achievable around a full school timetable.

What is an IB internal assessment marked against?+

Lettered criteria with published descriptors and their own mark allocations, assessed by the teacher and moderated externally. The descriptors are available before the student writes anything, which makes this the most controllable component on the course. Marks are typically lost in predictable places: personal engagement with no evidence of independent decisions, and reflection that summarises what was done instead of evaluating what it showed. Criterion names and allocations differ by subject and are revised, so take them from the current subject guide through your child's teacher.

Can an IB Gram tutor help with my child's Extended Essay in Ras Al Khaimah?+

With the process, yes. A tutor can interrogate whether the research question is answerable within 4,000 words, ask what evidence would settle it, explain a method and model it on a different topic, and give criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor cannot write, draft, complete or edit the essay to finish. That line is not negotiable: the work must be the student's own, and at least one provider ranking for these searches sells completed internal assessments, which is a malpractice risk for the student rather than a shortcut.

Which maths course should a Diploma student at the coastal campuses choose?+

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and proof-based route with calculus at its centre; Applications and Interpretation is statistical and modelling-led with technology integral. Neither is easier, and a student strong at manipulation can find AI harder despite its reputation. The decision should be made on demonstrated strengths cross-checked against the current entry requirements of the specific degree programmes under consideration, since several subjects commonly expect Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Make the choice at the transition year, not in the second Diploma year.

How do I find out which board my child's school in Ras Al Khaimah uses?+

The statement of entry names the board and the syllabus code, and your school's exams officer can confirm it in a sentence before that arrives. Cambridge codes are four digits, such as 0580 for Mathematics or 0620 for Chemistry. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE codes look like 4MA1 or 4CH1. The answer changes revision priorities materially, because Pearson supplies a maths formula sheet Cambridge does not, and the two boards differ on tiering and on how practical skills are assessed on paper.

Is Higher Level just Standard Level with an extra paper?+

No, and revising from Standard Level material is one of the more damaging mistakes a Diploma student makes. Higher Level adds depth as well as content, and that extra depth changes what the shared papers are allowed to ask, so a question on familiar material can be set at a level Standard Level never reaches. Several subjects also carry an additional component at Higher Level. The gap is invisible until a past paper is attempted under timed conditions, which is the argument for attempting one early rather than late.

Which papers are hardest to find a specialist for near Seih Al Uraibi?+

Additional Mathematics 0606 is the clearest gap, because the cohort is small and the content reaches calculus and logarithms that 0580 never touches. Computer Science 0478 follows, where the board's own pseudocode conventions and trace tables need someone who has marked the paper. Pearson science codes are thinner locally than Cambridge ones because fewer schools in the emirate use that board. These are precisely the papers where teaching over live video changes the answer from nobody available to somebody available.

Does online delivery work for the alternative-to-practical paper?+

Yes, because that paper tests experimental literacy on paper rather than laboratory handling. It asks candidates to identify variables, write a method with a named control, read a scale correctly, spot an anomalous result and handle uncertainty. All of that is taught with the student's own paper on screen and annotated during the hour. What online cannot replace is the practical work itself, which the school provides. The tutor's job is converting the laboratory time your child has already had into marks on the written paper.

My child understands the content but keeps losing marks. What is going on?+

Almost always an instrument failure rather than a knowledge failure. The common forms are a misread command term, a definition given without the qualifying phrase the scheme requires, a correct answer with no working shown where method marks were available, a reagent named without its condition, or an economics diagram left unlabelled beneath fluent prose. Sorting a marked paper into those categories takes about twenty minutes and usually shows one dominant column. That column, not the subject, is what the next block of sessions should address.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education affect an IB or IGCSE revision plan?+

They affect the calendar, and that is enough to matter. Private schools in the UAE must cover Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside the licensed curriculum, assessed on the school's internal calendar rather than the board's. In practice those assessments often land in the same fortnight as IGCSE mocks or Diploma internal deadlines. Mapping both calendars onto one sheet early prevents a collision that is otherwise discovered in week one of the mock window, when there is no room left to move anything.

How many sessions does a component-level fix usually take?+

It depends on which column the losses sit in. Command-term and working-shown losses are habit problems and typically close in two or three sessions of deliberate drilling against marked scripts. Content gaps take longer and have to be scheduled around the school's own coverage, because re-teaching ahead of the class rarely sticks. Internal assessment work is bounded by the school's deadline rather than by session count. Any honest answer is a range, and nobody can promise a particular grade from a particular number of hours.

Can a Seih Al Uraibi family be given past papers and mark schemes to work from?+

They can reference and link the official sources, and they can work from the copies your child legitimately holds through school. They should not hand over reproduced papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides, because those belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and for unreleased material redistribution is a more serious problem than copyright alone. Any site offering downloadable mark scheme packs is distributing someone else's property, which is a reasonable signal about how it treats other rules too.

What happens in the free trial lesson, and is there a catch?+

The first lesson is free and it is used as a diagnosis rather than a sales call. Your child brings marked work, the tutor goes through the questions that lost marks, and you receive a written summary naming the specific weaknesses and the questions they showed up on. There is no obligation afterwards. Our own rate is confirmed in the conversation that follows, with the format and session length stated before anything is agreed, and if no specialist is free for the paper you need we will say so.

Send the component and bring the marked paper

Near me is the wrong sort by the time a student is losing marks on a named component. Sort by the paper instead. Send the syllabus code or the criterion your child's teacher flagged, bring the last marked script to the free trial lesson, and read the written diagnosis before committing to a block. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, past papers are worked against the official schemes rather than answer keys, and nobody writes a word of your child's assessed work but your child.
