IB Home Tutor in Al Qusaidat

Families looking for an IB home tutor in Al Qusaidat usually ask about the sciences, and the marks are often going somewhere else: the Group 3 papers, the Individual Oral, the Extended Essay question, the Theory of Knowledge components. This page covers those in detail, because almost nobody tutors them. IB Gram teaches them one-to-one over live video, from Al Qusaidat to a subject specialist anywhere.

  • Group 3 papers set out component by component, not described in general
  • The Individual Oral treated as a component with its own technique
  • Extended Essay questions compared across subjects, with examples of shape

IB & IGCSE in Al Qusaidat

The components nobody books, and where the points are

A Diploma total is built from six subject grades and three core points, and tutoring spend in this market is concentrated almost entirely on two of the six groups. Mathematics and the sciences absorb nearly every enquiry, which leaves Group 3, the languages and the entire core receiving no external attention at all. Those are not minor components. A Group 3 subject is a seventh of the subject total, a language A grade is another seventh, and the core carries points of its own.

The imbalance has a cause. Science and mathematics problems feel technical and therefore solvable by a specialist, while an Economics commentary or a Theory of Knowledge essay feels like something a student either can or cannot do. That is not true. Each of those components has published criteria, a recognisable set of failure modes, and a technique that can be taught in a small number of sessions. They are, if anything, more responsive than a missing content sequence in Chemistry.

Al Qusaidat is an established residential district north-east of the creek in Ras Al Khaimah, with family housing and a reasonable run into the city's school cluster, which makes a 4:45pm session realistic on most school days. The housing matters here in a practical sense: an Individual Oral needs rehearsal space and an Extended Essay needs sustained quiet, both of which are easier in this district than in the old-town towers.

Delivery is stated plainly. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For the components on this page the format is well suited: a draft on a shared screen with criterion descriptors beside it, annotated live, and the annotated copy kept by the student afterwards.

Two cautions. Component structures, criteria and point allocations are given here because they are what makes the page useful, but IB documents are revised and this page reproduces none of them: confirm every figure against the subject guide and the assessment information your school issues. And no IB exam or results date appears anywhere, because the board's own site returns an error to automated checking and nothing in this project has been verified from the IB itself.

Nothing here is a claim about outcomes. No tutor can promise a grade, because boundaries are set after a series on the basis of that series' papers. What a specialist changes in these components is the precision of the student's own work, which is a smaller claim and one the student can see happening. It is also why the sessions described here are counted in small numbers rather than in terms: a criterion that has been unaddressed for a year can be addressed in an afternoon once somebody has pointed at the wording, and the student who has seen that done once tends to do it unaided afterwards.

At a glance

  • Group 3, the languages and the core receive almost no tutoring attention in this market.
  • Theory of Knowledge is assessed through two tasks: an essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition.
  • The Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination contributes points to the Diploma total.
  • The Extended Essay carries a 4,000-word ceiling, which is a research-question problem before it is a writing one.
  • Confirm every structure and allocation against the subject guide your school issues.
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB stages reach Al Qusaidat households, and the components discussed on this page belong almost entirely to the last of them.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of 8, with strands inside each criterion. For the components on this page the relevant MYP groundwork is written argument: a justification given, a position taken, a source used rather than summarised. Students who build that habit arrive in Grade 11 ready for Group 3 and the core.

In a small emirate the MYP cohort is tight and an internal position carries little information. The subject guides are the only published descriptors a family can hold a judgement against, and they are worth reading in Year 10.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups, three at Higher Level, each with an internally assessed component, plus the core. A total is built from the six subject grades plus points from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination, with a maximum of 45 in all. Confirm the current arrangements with your coordinator.

In Ras Al Khaimah a Group 3 subject may be taught by one teacher in the school, with no colleague to moderate internal work against. That makes an external second reading more useful here than in a large market.

CoreAges 16-19 · across both DP years

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS

The three components with no subject teacher and, in most timetables, no dedicated lesson in which the work is produced. Theory of Knowledge is assessed through an essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition; the Extended Essay is independent research to a 4,000-word ceiling; CAS is a completion requirement rather than a graded one.

The school supplies supervision for the Extended Essay and teaching for Theory of Knowledge. External support is additional and narrower: explaining what a criterion demands, testing a question, and feeding back on drafts the student has written.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This grid leads with Group 3 and the languages, because those are the subjects where families in this emirate are least likely to have arranged any support at all.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram marks are the most available on the paper and the most reliably dropped: axes unlabelled, the shift not shown, the new equilibrium unmarked. Higher Level adds quantitative questions. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries built on recent articles, which must be collected as they appear.

Business Management

HL and SL

A tool described earns almost nothing; the same tool applied to the case stimulus earns well. Higher Level adds the pre-released case study, published far enough ahead that structured early reading is worth more here than in any other subject on the timetable.

Psychology

HL and SL

Marks come from naming studies precisely and using them as evidence rather than as illustration. Students lose heavily on evaluation, where a list of criticisms scores far below a ranked argument about which limitation actually undermines the conclusion.

Global Politics and History

HL and SL

Both reward supported judgement on the specific claim in the question rather than an account of everything known. The commonest failure is a narrative answer to an analytical question, which can be corrected in a handful of timed essays.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen text and rewards argument about how the text constructs meaning. The Individual Oral needs a global issue chosen early and two extracts that genuinely support it. Higher Level adds an essay needing a single line of argument.

English A: Literature

HL and SL

Similar components with a literary focus, and the same recurring loss: the student writes about what a work says rather than how it works. The comparative essay rewards a point-by-point structure rather than a work-by-work tour.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL, SL and ab initio

Language A assesses analysis and extended writing at native level; language B assesses reading comprehension, writing to a specified text type and a spoken component. Home speakers in a language B course lose marks on register and convention rather than on vocabulary.

Mathematics and the sciences

HL and SL

Covered in detail elsewhere, and still the subjects most families book first. Worth noting that their internal assessments are judged against criteria in the same way the Group 3 components are, which is the skill this page is really about.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Two assessed tasks: an essay responding to a prescribed title and an exhibition built around objects and a prompt. Both reward precision over breadth, and both are routinely attempted without anybody having read the assessment instrument.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each matched to a kind of component rather than to a subject. All run online, one-to-one, over live video, with drafts annotated on a shared screen and kept.

Essay-technique sessions

For Group 3 papers, language A essays and the Theory of Knowledge essay. The work is a timed essay or a planned paragraph, marked against the published criteria with the descriptors open beside it, so the student reads what the band actually demands rather than a general comment about quality.

  • 60 minutes, fixed weekly on Gulf Standard Time
  • Criterion descriptors open alongside the draft
  • One paragraph rewritten properly rather than a whole essay skimmed
  • The annotated draft kept by the student

Oral and spoken-component rehearsal

For the Individual Oral and the spoken components of a language B course. Rehearsal with a specialist listening against the criteria is the only way to find out that an extract does not support the stated global issue, and it needs a room where the student can speak aloud without an audience.

  • Extract and global issue tested for genuine fit
  • Timed rehearsal against the published criteria
  • Specific feedback on structure rather than on confidence
  • A written note of what to change before the next run

Core-component coaching

For the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge tasks: narrowing a research question until it fits the limit, testing whether a prescribed title has been answered or merely discussed, and written feedback on drafts the student has written. The student writes every word.

  • Question narrowed before any writing begins
  • The assessment instrument read against the draft
  • Word count and citation discipline checked against the guide
  • Nothing produced on the student's behalf, at any stage

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Qusaidat

01

Group 3 papers, component by component

Group 3 subjects share a structural feature that explains most of the marks lost in them: the examination rewards the use of material rather than the possession of it. A student can know an entire Economics course and score in the middle bands, because every question asked them to do something with the knowledge and they explained it instead.

In Economics the doing is mostly diagrammatic and quantitative. Diagram marks are available in large numbers and are dropped by students who draw a shape they recognise without labelling the axes, showing the shift, or marking the new equilibrium. Higher Level adds calculation, and the internal assessment is a set of commentaries, each built on a genuinely recent article, each with a word limit that is enforced rather than indicative.

In Business Management the doing is application to the case stimulus. A reproduced tool scores almost nothing; the same tool built from the specific business in front of the student scores well. The Higher Level pre-released case study is the clearest example of an available advantage nobody takes, because it is published far enough ahead that structured early reading is possible and most students read it in the final fortnight.

In Psychology, History and Global Politics the doing is argument supported by named evidence. A study cited precisely is worth considerably more than a study gestured at, and evaluation written as a ranked claim about which limitation actually undermines a conclusion is worth more than a list of criticisms. Each of those is a technique rather than a body of knowledge, which is why a handful of timed essays with proper marking moves these subjects faster than the same hours spent revising content.

02

Language A and language B: what each component rewards

Language subjects are carried by every Diploma student and tutored by almost none of them, which is the single clearest imbalance in this market. They are also responsive, because the losses are structural rather than linguistic and structure can be taught.

In language A, whether Language and Literature or Literature, the recurring failure is writing about content instead of construction. Paper 1 presents an unseen text and asks for a guided analysis, and the marks go to an argument about how the text produces its effect: structure, voice, register, imagery, what is withheld. A student who paraphrases the text accurately has described something the examiner has already read. The Higher Level essay wants a single line of argument developed through a work rather than a tour of its features.

In language B the components are different and the failure is register. A home speaker placed in a language B course frequently has more vocabulary than the course requires and loses marks because a formal letter was written in the voice of a message to a friend, or because a blog entry ignored the conventions of a blog. The text type is prescribed and assessed, and that is an instruction rather than a suggestion.

Both have spoken components and both are routinely under-rehearsed, which is largely a housing problem rather than a motivation problem: rehearsing aloud needs a room. Al Qusaidat's family housing makes that easier than the old-town towers, and it is worth using deliberately, because a spoken component rehearsed three times against the criteria is a different performance from one attempted cold.

LANGUAGE COMPONENTS AND THEIR CHARACTERISTIC LOSSES
ComponentWhat it assessesWhat earns the marksThe usual loss
Language A Paper 1Guided analysis of an unseen textArgument about how the text produces its effectAccurate paraphrase of what the text says
Language A Paper 2Comparative response across worksA point-by-point comparisonA work-by-work tour with a comparison bolted on

Language B writingWriting to a prescribed text typeRegister and conventions of that text typeFluent writing in the wrong voice
Language B spokenInteraction and sustained speechRehearsed structure against the criteriaAttempted cold, with no rehearsal space
03

The Individual Oral: the component with the least guidance

  • The pairing of global issue and extracts decides most of the marks, weeks in advance.
  • Extracts must do work, not merely mention a theme.
  • Rehearse a holdable shape three times against the published criteria.
  • Rehearsal needs a room; plan it rather than hoping for it.

Every Diploma language A student sits an Individual Oral and almost none of them is taught how. The component asks a student to explore a global issue through two extracts, one from a work in translation and one from a work originally written in the language of study, and to hold a sustained spoken argument about it. The marks are allocated against published criteria, and the single decision that determines most of them is taken weeks before the recording.

That decision is the pairing. A global issue has to be genuinely explored by both extracts, which means the extracts must do work rather than merely mention a theme. Students routinely choose extracts they enjoyed and then construct an issue backwards from them, which produces an oral where the issue is asserted at the start, not examined in the middle, and reasserted at the end. A specialist can see that in ten minutes and the student usually cannot.

The second determinant is structure under time pressure. A sustained spoken argument needs a shape the student can hold without notes: issue, first extract as evidence, second extract as development or contrast, and a conclusion that says something the extracts have earned. Rehearsing that shape three times against the criteria changes the performance substantially, and it is rehearsal rather than content work.

The third is practical. Rehearsing aloud needs a room where a teenager is willing to speak at normal volume, which in a shared flat is a real obstacle and in Al Qusaidat's family housing usually is not. Families who treat the oral as a scheduled rehearsal rather than a thing that happens on the day see a different outcome, and it costs two or three sessions rather than a term.

04

The Extended Essay: what a good question looks like by subject

The Extended Essay is 4,000 words of independent research assessed against named criteria, and its ceiling is set by the research question rather than by the writing. A question that cannot be answered inside the limit produces an essay that will not cut without losing its argument, which is why students arrive at 5,000 words and cannot see a route back.

A good question looks different in each subject, and this is the part students are least often shown. In a science it has a measurable relationship and a feasible method with equipment that actually exists. In Economics it has a specific market, a defined period and data that can be obtained. In History it has a bounded period and a defensible claim rather than a topic. In a language A essay it has a text or pair of texts and an argument about construction rather than content. In Mathematics it has an area of mathematics to develop rather than a phenomenon to describe.

The failures are also subject-specific and recognisable. A science essay whose method needs equipment the school does not have. An Economics essay about a whole economy over a decade. A History essay titled with a period rather than a claim. A language essay about a theme across four novels. A Mathematics essay about an interesting real-world situation with no mathematics in it. Every one of those is visible to a specialist in a single conversation and invisible to a student until they are 3,000 words in.

The legitimate support is therefore narrow and early: testing the question, reviewing feasibility, explaining what each named criterion demands, and giving written feedback on drafts the student has written. The school provides the supervisor. A tutor must never write, redraft or complete the essay, nor supply text for the student to paste in. Confirm the criteria and the word limit against the current Extended Essay guidance your school issues.

05

Theory of Knowledge: two tasks, two techniques

Theory of Knowledge is assessed through two tasks and most students prepare for one of them. The essay responds to a prescribed title set by the IB and is externally assessed. The exhibition asks a student to select objects and link them to a prompt, with a written commentary, and is internally assessed. They reward different things and are routinely attempted without anybody having read the assessment instrument for either.

The essay fails in a predictable way: breadth instead of argument. A student gestures at four knowledge claims, mentions several areas of knowledge, offers two examples that illustrate nothing in particular, and concludes that the question is complex. The marks are available for one line of argument developed properly, with examples that do specific work and a genuine counterposition taken seriously rather than dismissed in a clause. Choosing which title to answer is itself a decision worth a session, because the titles are not equally tractable for a given student.

The exhibition fails differently: objects chosen for interest rather than for argument. Each object has to connect to the prompt specifically and the commentary has to make that connection explicit, in the prompt's own terms. A beautiful object with a loose connection scores below a mundane object with a precise one, which is counterintuitive to students and easy to correct once it is said.

Both tasks also contribute to the Diploma total through the combination with the Extended Essay, which is why neglecting them is more expensive than it looks. Confirm the current arrangements and allocations with your Theory of Knowledge teacher or coordinator, because this page reproduces no IB document and the arrangements are revised.

CAS: not graded, still a requirement

  • Not graded, but a completion requirement with real consequences.
  • Fewer organised opportunities locally than in Dubai; start in Grade 11.
  • Not a tutoring task; no provider should produce reflections or evidence.
  • Check once a term that the record is current, as a calendar item.

Creativity, Activity, Service is not graded and is a completion requirement, which is a combination that produces a specific kind of trouble: it has no marks to chase and it can stop a Diploma being awarded. In most households it is remembered in the final term, which is the worst time to discover that evidence or reflections are missing.

In Ras Al Khaimah there is an additional practical dimension. The emirate has fewer organised opportunities than Dubai, and a student looking for a service activity or a sustained creative commitment in the final year may find the options thin. Students who start in Grade 11, when the choice is wider and the pressure lower, generally finish without incident; students who start late are negotiating with organisations while coursework deadlines are landing.

This is explicitly not a tutoring task. A tutor cannot and should not produce reflections, complete a portfolio or manufacture evidence, and any provider offering to do so is offering to put a Diploma at risk. What is appropriate is to name it as a household calendar item in Grade 11 and to check, once a term, that the record is current.

The reason it belongs on a page about overlooked components is that it is the most overlooked of all, and unlike a weak essay it is not a matter of degree. A component that is simply not completed does not produce a lower grade; it produces a problem that has to be resolved with the school, usually under time pressure, and it is entirely avoidable with a calendar reminder.

07

How the Diploma total is assembled

Families frequently plan around subject grades without a clear picture of how they combine, which makes it hard to judge where effort is worth spending. The structure is simple enough to state and worth knowing in Grade 11 rather than in the spring of Grade 12.

Six subjects each contribute a grade on a seven-point scale, giving a maximum of 42 from subjects. The Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination contributes up to a further three points, taking the maximum to 45. There are also requirements beyond the points total, including conditions about minimum grades and completion of the core, which is why a student can have a sufficient total and still have a problem. The specific conditions are published by the IB and administered by the school, and they should be confirmed with the coordinator rather than taken from any tutoring page.

Two planning consequences follow. First, the core is not decoration: points from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination are worth the same as points gained anywhere else, and they are available from components almost nobody tutors. Second, a single weak subject can matter disproportionately if it falls below a condition rather than merely below expectations, which is a question for the coordinator and not something to guess at.

A final honesty note. This page publishes no equivalency points figure for the IB, because the source used for the British and American tracks in this project does not state one, and an unverified threshold on a page like this would be a liability rather than a help. Confirm the IB position with the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation channel.

08

Honesty, materials and the permit

A page this far into assessed components owes a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the subject content, explain each assessment criterion and what its descriptors demand, help narrow a research question or test whether a global issue and its extracts genuinely fit, review a method for feasibility and ethics, and give written feedback on a draft the student has already written.

A tutor must never write, redraft or complete an Internal Assessment, a Mathematics exploration, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay or exhibition commentary, a CAS reflection or any assessed work, and must not supply text, data or diagrams for submission. A page found during research for this project sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is an academic integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on whoever sold it.

On materials: no tutor should reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables, assessment instruments or subject guides as downloads. The official source should be referenced and linked instead, which is why this page carries no attachments and repeatedly asks readers to confirm structures and allocations against the documents their own school issues.

The last boundary is who may teach, and in a market this thin it decides who is even available for the components above. Eligibility for the permit is wide, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, which is why the person capable of coaching a Language A oral in Al Qusaidat may be an undergraduate rather than a career tutor. That is a permitted arrangement and not a disqualifying one. The permit itself is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, created by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE's own service page listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published there is no amount to repeat here. On our own standing: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from the Department of Knowledge, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no tutor can promise a grade, least of all on the core, where three points turn on two pieces of writing.

Where we tutor

Al Qusaidat and the Ras Al Khaimah districts nearby

What differs between these districts is the journey and the available quiet space. For the components on this page, rehearsal space matters more than it does for a maths paper.

Al Qusaidat

Established residential district north-east of the creek with family housing and a reasonable run into the city cluster. A 4:45pm start holds on most school days, and there is usually a room where an oral can be rehearsed aloud.

Julphar

The old quarter around the creek and historic port, with the shortest journeys in the emirate and the least spare room. Rehearsing an Individual Oral aloud is genuinely harder in this housing stock.

Al Nakheel

Central district inside the school and commercial cluster, with the broadest housing mix and short journeys. Easier than Julphar for the sustained quiet an Extended Essay needs.

Khuzam

Inland villa district with a short run into the city cluster, offering both the journey and the space. The simplest district in the emirate to schedule sustained work in.

Al Dhait

Large villa area south of the city with considerable quiet space and a longer run. Well suited to the ninety-minute sittings a Higher Level essay paper needs.

Mina Al Arab

Waterfront community of villas and apartments further from the cluster, where a weekend-heavy pattern works better than a weekday one.

Al Hamra Village

Coastal master-planned community in the south with its own school presence, and an even smaller cohort for any one Group 3 option.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Qusaidat

The Ras Al Khaimah city cluster

Al Qusaidat draws on the emirate's main school concentration. For the components on this page the documents that matter are the subject guides, the Theory of Knowledge assessment information and the Extended Essay supervision schedule. Students we support attend schools in this cluster.

  • Ras Al Khaimah Academy
  • RAK Academy
  • Emirates National School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School
  • RAK English Speaking School

The southern coastal schools

Families towards Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab use schools nearer the coast, with smaller cohorts and often a narrower Group 3 offer. Private schools across the emirate are regulated by the Department of Knowledge, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

  • British School Al Hamra
  • Al Hamra International School
  • Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School

Schools are named to describe the environment an Al Qusaidat student studies in. No affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and every name should be checked against the regulator's own school listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the component, not the subject

An enquiry that says Economics Paper 1 diagrams, or the Individual Oral, or the Theory of Knowledge essay, can be answered properly. One that says Economics takes a session to narrow. Bring the relevant subject guide or assessment information if you have it.

  2. 02

    Take the free diagnostic session

The first session is a diagnosis with no card details taken. For the components on this page that usually means reading one piece of the student's own work against the published criteria and naming which criterion is unaddressed, which is faster and more specific than a general assessment.

  3. 03

Test the central decision before any writing

The Extended Essay question, the pairing of global issue and extracts, the choice of prescribed title, the objects for the exhibition. Each of those caps a component before a word is written, and each is visible to a specialist in a single conversation.

  4. 04

    Schedule the rehearsals

Spoken components are under-rehearsed mostly because rehearsing aloud needs a room. Al Qusaidat's family housing usually provides one, so put three rehearsals in the calendar against the criteria rather than treating the oral as a thing that happens on the day.

  5. 05

Put CAS on the household calendar in Grade 11

It is not a tutoring task and no provider should touch it, but it is a completion requirement and the local options are thinner than in Dubai. A termly check that the record is current prevents the one problem that cannot be fixed by working harder.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The components nobody else covers

Group 3, the languages and the core receive almost no tutoring attention in this market, and they carry a large share of a Diploma total. Each has published criteria and recognisable failure modes, which makes them more responsive than a missing content sequence.

The decision before the drafting

An Extended Essay question, a global issue and its extracts, a prescribed title, a set of exhibition objects: each sets a ceiling before any writing happens. Testing them early is the highest-value hour available in the core.

Criteria open beside the draft

Work is marked against the published descriptors with the descriptors visible, so the student reads what the band demands rather than a general comment about quality. The annotated draft is theirs to keep.

Rehearsal treated as a scheduled task

Spoken components are under-prepared largely because rehearsing aloud needs a room. Three rehearsals against the criteria changes the performance substantially, and it costs sessions rather than a term.

Figures given with a caveat, never reproduced

Structures and allocations appear because they make the page useful, with an instruction to confirm them against the documents your school issues. No IB document is reproduced here and no unverified IB date is published anywhere.

Stated limits, including on CAS

Explaining criteria, testing decisions and feeding back on the student's own draft: yes. Producing any part of assessed work, including a CAS reflection: never, at any price or any deadline.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Qusaidat: your questions answered

Which IB components do Al Qusaidat families most often leave untutored?+

Group 3, the languages and the entire core. Nearly every enquiry in this market concerns mathematics or a science, which leaves Economics, Business Management, Psychology, History, language A and the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay components receiving no external attention at all. Those are not minor: a Group 3 subject is a seventh of the subject total, a language A grade is another seventh, and the core contributes points of its own on top.

Why does my child score mid-band in Economics despite knowing the course?+

Because the paper rewards using the material rather than possessing it. Diagram marks are available in large numbers and are dropped by students who draw a recognisable shape without labelling the axes, showing the shift, or marking the new equilibrium. Higher Level adds calculation, where the same pattern appears: a correct figure with no working earns a fraction of what it should. Both are mechanical fixes and both apply across every topic in the course.

What is the best use of the Higher Level Business pre-released case study?+

Structured reading, started as soon as it is published rather than in the final fortnight. The pre-release is the clearest example in the Diploma of an available advantage almost nobody takes: the material is known in advance, so the work is building a map of the organisation, its context and the tools that will plausibly apply, rather than meeting it cold. Students who read it early and annotate it deliberately are preparing for a different examination from those who do not.

How should an Individual Oral extract be chosen?+

By whether it does work for the global issue, not by whether the student enjoyed it. The component asks for a global issue explored through two extracts, and most students choose extracts they liked and then construct an issue backwards, which produces an oral where the issue is asserted at the beginning, never examined in the middle, and reasserted at the end. A specialist can see that in ten minutes. Test the pairing weeks before the recording, because it decides most of the marks.

How many times should a spoken component be rehearsed?+

Three, against the published criteria, with specific feedback on structure rather than on confidence. A sustained spoken argument needs a shape the student can hold without notes: the issue, the first extract as evidence, the second as development or contrast, and a conclusion the extracts have earned. The practical obstacle is usually a room rather than willingness, and Al Qusaidat's family housing generally provides one where the old-town towers do not.

Why do home speakers lose marks in a language B course?+

On register and text type rather than on vocabulary. A language B writing task is prescribed: a formal letter, a report, a blog entry, each with conventions that are assessed. A student with more vocabulary than the course requires frequently writes fluently in the wrong voice, which costs marks that fluency cannot recover. The correction is mechanical: identify the text type, list its conventions, and rewrite one piece to deliver them. It transfers immediately.

What makes an Extended Essay question workable?+

That it can be answered inside 4,000 words, and the test differs by subject. A science question needs a measurable relationship and a method feasible with available equipment. An Economics question needs a specific market, a defined period and obtainable data. A History question needs a bounded period and a defensible claim rather than a topic. A Mathematics question needs mathematics to develop. A language question needs an argument about construction rather than a theme traced across several works.

My child's Extended Essay is over the word limit. What now?+

The problem is almost always the question rather than the prose. A question too broad to answer inside 4,000 words produces an essay that cannot be cut without losing its argument, which is why a student at 5,000 words cannot see a route back. The work is narrowing the question and rebuilding the structure around the narrower version. A tutor may do that narrowing, explain what each criterion demands and feed back on drafts; a tutor may never rewrite the essay.

How is Theory of Knowledge actually assessed?+

Through two tasks. An essay responding to a prescribed title set by the IB, which is externally assessed, and an exhibition in which the student links objects to a prompt with a written commentary, which is internally assessed. They reward different things and are routinely attempted without anybody having read the assessment instrument for either. Confirm the current arrangements and allocations with your Theory of Knowledge teacher, because this page reproduces no IB document.

Why do TOK essays score below what students expect?+

Breadth instead of argument. The familiar pattern is four knowledge claims gestured at, several areas of knowledge mentioned, two examples that illustrate nothing in particular, and a conclusion that the question is complex. The marks are available for one line of argument developed properly, with examples that do specific work and a counterposition taken seriously rather than dismissed in a clause. Choosing which prescribed title to answer is itself worth a session, because the titles are not equally tractable.

How should an Al Qusaidat student pick their three exhibition objects?+

A specific connection to the prompt, stated explicitly in the prompt's own terms. Students choose objects for interest and leave the link loose, which inverts the scoring: a mundane object with a precise connection outscores a striking object with a vague one. The correction is to write the connection first, in one sentence, and only keep the object if that sentence is convincing. That is counterintuitive to most students and easy to fix once it has been said out loud.

Is CAS something a tutor can help with?+

No, and any provider offering to produce reflections, complete a portfolio or manufacture evidence is offering to put a Diploma at risk. CAS is not graded but it is a completion requirement, which is the combination that causes trouble: no marks to chase and real consequences if it is incomplete. In this emirate the local options are thinner than in Dubai, so starting in Grade 11 matters. Treat it as a household calendar item with a termly check.

How is the Diploma total put together?+

Six subjects each contribute a grade on a seven-point scale, giving a maximum of 42 from subjects, and the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination contributes up to a further three, taking the maximum to 45. There are also conditions beyond the total, including requirements about minimum grades and completion of the core, which is why a sufficient total can still come with a problem. Confirm the specific conditions with your coordinator rather than with any tutoring page.

Will you tell me the IB score the Ministry requires for equivalency?+

Not one that this page will publish. The source used for the British and American tracks in this project states the figures for those routes but publishes no IB points threshold, and an unverified number here would be a liability rather than a help, particularly since one competitor page in this market already publishes an incorrect subject count for the British track. Confirm the IB position with the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation channel directly.

Can a Group 3 subject really improve in a few sessions?+

More reliably than a missing content sequence in a science, yes, because the losses are techniques rather than knowledge. Labelling a diagram fully, quoting the extract figure, applying a tool to the case in front of the student, citing a study precisely, ranking limitations instead of listing them: each of those is learnable in a handful of timed pieces with proper marking, and each applies across every topic in the course rather than to one of them.

Bring the component, and the guide if you have it

If your child is in the Diploma in Al Qusaidat and the marks are going somewhere nobody is looking, the quickest route to an answer is to bring one piece of their own work and the relevant criteria. The first session is free, no card details are taken, and the tutor will name which criterion is unaddressed rather than offering a general view of the writing. Where the component has a central decision still open, an Extended Essay question, a global issue, a prescribed title, that is the hour worth spending first. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
