IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Mamourah

A search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Mamourah is usually triggered by a single bad paper rather than by a whole subject collapsing. So this page is organised by paper: what each component is worth, how long it runs, the topics where Ras Al Khaimah scripts lose marks, and what a raw mark actually converts into. Lessons are delivered one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time, matched by syllabus code.

  • Matched to the failing component, not to the subject on the report card
  • Arabic, Islamic education and social studies run alongside, not instead
  • Lessons are live over video; no tutor is sent to a Ras Al Khaimah address

IB & IGCSE in Al Mamourah

Which paper went wrong is the question worth answering

Al Mamourah is a city-area district of Ras Al Khaimah, close to Al Qusaidat and the creek, with secondary students travelling out to schools concentrated in Al Nakheel, Al Hamra Village and Mina Al Arab. That geography sets the evening window and nothing else. The question that decides whether tuition works is not where the tutor lives; it is which component of which paper is costing marks and whether anybody available has taught it.

Parents rarely arrive with that information, and it is not their job to. They arrive with a grade, a report comment, or a child who has gone quiet about one subject. The translation from there to a component is the first useful thing a tutor does, and it takes a marked script rather than a conversation. A script shows within minutes whether the student knows the content and loses the method mark, or knows the method and runs out of time, or knows both and answers a question that was not asked.

Those three problems look identical from outside and need entirely different work. Missing content takes weeks of teaching. Missing method lines take a fortnight of habit change. Answering the wrong command term takes three sessions and then applies to every subject the student sits. A tutor who starts from the subject name rather than the component spends the first month finding out which one it was, and in an exam year that month is the budget.

IB Gram matches on the syllabus code, the level or tier, and the failing component, then delivers the lesson one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service we run in India only. In an emirate where a Higher Level or Extended-tier cohort can number a dozen students, matching on the component is only possible if the pool is national rather than local, which is the whole argument for the format.

The sections below are organised the way an examiner's report is: component weightings and durations, how the practical and investigation components differ across boards, the four English routes and what each assesses, the specific topics where marks go missing with the error named, what a raw mark converts into, the UAE mandatory subjects running alongside the international timetable, the market rates with their publishers named, the academic-honesty boundary, and an honest table of what we can and cannot cover in this emirate.

One caution on dates before the detail. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE centres and the February and March series belongs to India alone. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Diploma candidates at UAE schools sit the May session, and this page publishes no specific IB date, because the board's own site is the only authority and your child's coordinator is the person to confirm them with.

At a glance

  • Send a marked script; it translates a grade into a component in minutes
  • Content, method lines and command terms are three different problems
  • Arabic, Islamic education and social studies sit on top of the international timetable
  • UAE candidates sit Cambridge in June and November only
  • Published market rate for a qualified online subject tutor: AED 150-300 per hour
  • Every lesson here is one-to-one and delivered live over video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes generate the component questions on this page. A household in Al Mamourah may be running two of them at once, because siblings often attend different schools in the same emirate.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Standard and Higher Level plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment with published criteria, marked by the school and moderated externally. Higher Level adds both content and, in several subjects, an extra paper with a distinct question style that students meet for the first time in a mock.

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session. The component weightings on this page come from the published assessment structures rather than from any school's practice, so they hold regardless of which Ras Al Khaimah school your child attends. The internal deadlines, by contrast, are set school by school and have to be read from your own coordinator's list.

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson International GCSE

Terminal written papers, with Core and Extended tiers at Cambridge and Foundation and Higher tiers in Pearson mathematics. The syllabus code governs everything: paper count, duration, question style and the phrases a mark scheme accepts. Two boards, similar content, measurably different papers.

Ras Al Khaimah centres sit the Cambridge June and November series. Pearson International GCSE runs in May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those past dates show the rhythm; the live official timetable is the only version to plan from.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups on a one-to-eight scale per criterion rather than as a percentage, ending in the Personal Project. The scale confuses parents transferring from systems where a percentage is the familiar unit, and the confusion hides genuine weakness until the Diploma's first term exposes it.

For an Al Mamourah student the MYP to Diploma jump is sharpest in mathematics and the sciences, where Diploma teaching assumes algebraic fluency the MYP does not demand. Caught in Year 11 that is a summer's work; caught in the first Diploma report it competes with five other new subjects for the same evenings.

AS/ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

Three or four subjects taken deeper, with AS as a halfway point that can be cashed in or carried forward. There is no Internal Assessment culture here, so the skills a Diploma student builds on assessed coursework have no equivalent, and the tuition question becomes almost entirely about papers.

The published Ministry of Education British track asks for one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE passes at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from those five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry names the component that most often fails and the specific error behind it, with the syllabus code attached. This is the information a tutor needs before the first lesson, and it is the level of detail this market generally does not publish.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (DP)

HL and SL

Higher Level adds a third paper of extended problem solving that rewards persistence over recall. The recurring losses sit in proof by induction, complex numbers in polar form, and questions asking for justification where the student supplies an answer instead of a reason.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (DP)

HL and SL

Calculator-assumed throughout and statistics-heavy. Marks go missing on unrounded answers, missing units, and modelling questions treated as calculations when the mark scheme wants a comment on how well the model fits the data.

Chemistry (DP)

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the written papers. The scientific investigation is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each, and a design with no genuine independent variable range caps three of those four before any writing.

Physics (DP)

HL and SL

Uncertainty propagation is examinable, routinely under-taught and quick to teach, which makes it the highest-return topic in a short block. Paper 2 rewards rearranging the algebra before substituting numbers, which is a habit rather than a piece of knowledge.

Biology (DP)

HL and SL

The volume of content disguises the real failure, which is command-term discipline on six and eight-mark questions. A student who writes everything known about a process earns the two marks listed and nothing for the remaining page of writing.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Method marks decide the grade. Students who work mentally and write one line lose credit for a correct approach. Algebraic fractions, graph transformations and probability trees without replacement are the predictable losses in local mock scripts.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Potential dividers and series-parallel circuits are where the marks go. Cambridge's alternative-to-practical paper is learnable through a fixed vocabulary about repeats, precision and anomalous results, which makes it the fastest revision win in the subject.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles arithmetic under time pressure and organic pathways. The qualitative analysis table is pure recall, worth reliable marks, and routinely skipped in revision because it feels less like chemistry than a calculation does.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Genetics crosses, osmosis write-ups and extended responses. The mark scheme accepts a short set of specific phrases, so teaching the scheme's language outperforms another pass through the textbook by a wide margin.

English A: Language and Literature (DP)

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper on unseen texts are assessed on analysis of how meaning is made rather than on what the text says. Students who summarise content score in the lowest bands regardless of how well they write.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Single tier

The summary question carries a word ceiling and a content-point tally, so elegant paraphrase can remove the lifted detail the scheme requires. Reading precision rather than expression is the thing being measured.

Arabic as an additional language

School-assessed and IGCSE routes

Mandatory alongside the international curriculum under the federal rules, and assessed separately from it. Support here is about the school's own scheme and its assessment weightings rather than about an external paper, which makes it a different kind of tutoring brief.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes suit a component-level brief. The choice depends on which component is failing and how much of the course remains to be taught.

One-component repair

Six to ten sessions aimed at a single paper or criterion rather than a subject. Opens with the marked script or current draft and closes when that component sits at the intended band. The brief is narrow deliberately, because a narrow brief is the only kind anybody can tell has finished.

  • One component, one named target
  • Starts from a marked script or draft
  • Measured against the published scheme or criteria
  • Ends at the target rather than at a date

Practical and investigation preparation

Four to eight sessions on the experimental components: Cambridge's alternative-to-practical vocabulary, Pearson's practical-skills questions within written papers, or an IB scientific investigation design before any data is collected. Paper-based work that an online session handles well, deliberately kept separate from content teaching.

  • Covers variables, repeats, precision, anomalous results
  • Investigation design settled before data collection
  • Results tables and graph work on a shared screen
  • Laboratory handling remains the school's job

Whole-subject rebuild

For a student whose marked script shows losses spread evenly across every component, which indicates content coverage rather than technique. Weekly across a term or more, following the school's scheme of work, with a marked paper every six sessions to confirm the rebuild is landing.

  • Weekly, one subject, follows the school's scheme
  • Marked paper every six sessions as evidence
  • Technique work layered in from the midpoint
  • Switches to paper-only in the final weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mamourah

01

Translating a grade into a component

  • A grade is an aggregate; the component is the actionable unit
  • Content gaps respond slowly, method habits fast, command terms fastest
  • Ask the school for component-level mock marks, not just the grade
  • Four items to gather: marked paper, board, code, tier, next date

This is the step that gets skipped, and skipping it is why so many families in Al Mamourah feel that six months of tuition changed nothing. A grade is an aggregate. It tells you the total and hides the shape, and the shape is the only part that can be acted on. Two students with the same overall mark can need entirely different work, and the report card cannot distinguish them.

The translation needs a marked script. From one paper, a tutor can see whether the student attempted every question, whether the working is written or implied, whether marks were lost late in the paper to timing, and whether answers match the command terms. Where the school can release component-level marks for a mock, better still: a strong Paper 1 against a weak Paper 2 is a specific diagnosis, not an impression.

The three failures and their timescales are worth stating plainly. Content gaps take weeks of teaching and respond slowly. Missing method lines take a fortnight of deliberate habit change and respond fast. Command-term errors take about three sessions and then transfer to every other subject the student sits, which makes them the best value work available in a short block. Most students have some of all three, in different proportions.

What a family can do before contacting anybody is collect the evidence: the most recent marked paper, the board and syllabus code from the entry confirmation, the level or tier, and the date of the next assessment. Four pieces of information, all obtainable in two messages to the school, and together they shorten the useful first session from a diagnosis into a plan.

02

Component weightings and durations, side by side

Parents are told a subject matters without being told how it divides, and the division is where revision time should be allocated. A component worth a third of the grade deserves a third of the preparation, and students routinely spend their effort on the component they find most interesting rather than the one carrying the most marks. The table below exists to make that allocation visible.

Read it as a planning tool rather than a reference. The pattern that matters is relative weight: which component is largest, which is most often neglected, and which rewards technique rather than content. Internal assessments across the Diploma sciences and mathematics carry a meaningful share of the grade and are entirely within the student's control months before any paper, which makes them the most reliable marks on the course.

Durations matter as much as weightings because they govern pacing practice. A student who has only ever done questions untimed has no sense of how long a six-mark answer may take, and discovers it in the hall. Timed practice at the real duration, not at a convenient shortened version, is the single piece of homework most often set and least often done properly.

Confirm any specific figure for your child's subject against the published assessment structure for their syllabus version, because boards revise these and a tutoring page is not where an exam plan should be sourced from. What the table gets right is the shape of the decision: allocate revision in proportion to the marks, not in proportion to comfort.

03

The experimental components, compared across boards

Science students lose a predictable share of marks in the components that describe practical work rather than in the ones that test theory, and the boards handle this differently enough that a tutor matched to the wrong one wastes the preparation. The content is not the issue; the format is. Each board rewards a particular way of writing about variables, uncertainty and anomalous results.

Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical paper in several sciences, which is highly learnable: the mark scheme accepts a defined vocabulary about controlling variables, repeating readings, improving precision and identifying anomalies, plus the ability to complete and read a results table. A student who learns that vocabulary and practises five past papers typically moves further on this component than on any other in the same time.

Pearson assesses practical skills within its written papers rather than through a separate alternative paper, which spreads the same skills across the course and makes them easier to overlook entirely. The Diploma takes a third approach: a single scientific investigation assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each, where the design decision made before any data is collected determines the ceiling on three of the four criteria.

The practical consequence for an Al Mamourah family is about timing. For Cambridge the work can be done in the final block, because it is paper technique. For Pearson it should be woven through the year. For the Diploma it has to happen before the experiment, which means the highest-value session on the component sits months before any draft exists and is the one nobody books.

04

The four English routes, and which assesses what

  • English as a Second Language: reading precision, with a word-limited summary
  • First Language English: register and answering the question about the text
  • Diploma English A: analysis of how meaning is made, plus the individual oral
  • Diploma English B: comprehension and production, not literary analysis

English is where Al Mamourah families most often discover that the subject on the timetable is not the subject being examined. A student can be in English as a Second Language, First Language English, Diploma English A Language and Literature, or Diploma English B, and those four assess different things. Confusing them produces tuition that works on the wrong skill with great diligence.

English as a Second Language measures reading precision and controlled writing. Its summary question has a word ceiling and a content-point tally, which means fluent paraphrase actively loses marks by removing the detail the scheme is looking for. First Language English measures control of register and response to a question about a text, where the commonest failure is answering the text rather than the question that was asked about it.

Diploma English A Language and Literature assesses analysis of how meaning is constructed, in unseen texts and in an individual oral built around a global issue. A student who summarises content, however elegantly, sits in the lowest bands. Diploma English B is a language-acquisition course and assesses comprehension and production rather than literary analysis, so the preparation looks almost nothing like English A's.

The practical instruction is short. Find out from the entry confirmation which of the four your child is actually sitting, then match the tutor to that, because a strong literature teacher is not automatically the right person for an English as a Second Language summary question and the reverse is equally true. This is the subject where the board-and-code discipline recommended throughout this page pays off most visibly.

05

Where marks actually go missing, topic by topic

Generic advice about revision is useless because the losses are specific and repeat across cohorts. The table below names the topic, the error, and the fix, drawn from the pattern that shows up again and again in marked scripts at this level. It is the kind of detail examiner reports contain and tutoring pages generally do not, and it is worth reading with a script in front of you.

The thing to notice is how many of the entries are habits rather than knowledge. Not writing the substitution line, not labelling an axis, not rounding at the end instead of mid-calculation, not reading the command term: none of those requires teaching new content, and all of them require somebody watching the student work and interrupting. That is precisely what a one-to-one session does and a class of twenty-four cannot.

The second thing to notice is that the fixes are cheap. Most are a single habit, practised deliberately for a fortnight until it stops needing thought. A student who adopts four of these across their subjects recovers a meaningful number of marks without learning anything new, which is why the first block of any plan here starts with a marked script rather than with a syllabus.

Use the table to check the plan you are being sold. If a tutor's proposal for a student losing method marks is a programme of content teaching, the proposal does not match the diagnosis. The questions to ask are which of these errors the script shows, and what the first fortnight is going to do about them.

06

What a raw mark actually converts into

  • Boundaries are set per series by the board and genuinely move
  • A mock boundary is an estimate from previous series, not a rule
  • No boundary tables are reproduced here; read them on the board's own site
  • An uneven component split is better news over eight weeks than an even one

Families read a mock percentage as though it were a grade, and it is not. Grade boundaries are set after each series by the awarding body, on that series' papers, and they move. A paper that was harder than usual produces lower boundaries; a paper that was easier produces higher ones. A school's mock boundary is an estimate based on previous series and should be read as a range rather than a line.

This matters in two practical ways. First, a student sitting two marks below an internal boundary is not necessarily two marks below the real one, which is why an enquiry about results exists as a route and why a decision about it should rest on the component pattern rather than on the disappointment. Second, chasing a percentage target can distract from the component shape that produces it.

This page publishes no boundary figures and no conversion tables, for a simple reason: grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, they are published by those boards for each series, and reproducing them here would be both a copyright matter and quickly out of date. The place to read them is the board's own site, and the person to interpret them for your child is the exams officer or Diploma coordinator.

What a tutor can do with a mark is more useful than converting it. Read the component split, identify which paper is dragging the aggregate, and target that. A student whose aggregate sits mid-range because one component is strong and another weak has a far better prospect over eight weeks than one whose marks are evenly mediocre, and the aggregate alone cannot tell you which you have.

07

Arabic, Islamic education and social studies alongside the timetable

This is one of the largest gaps in the UAE tutoring market and it affects every family on this page. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, and must otherwise adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Those subjects therefore sit on top of the IGCSE or Diploma timetable rather than instead of any part of it.

The practical effect is arithmetic. A Year 11 student in Al Mamourah carrying nine IGCSE subjects plus the mandatory UAE subjects has a fuller week than their nine-subject entry suggests, and a revision plan that counts only the examined international subjects has quietly assumed hours that do not exist. Mapping the real week before planning sessions is a ten-minute job that prevents a term of over-commitment.

Dubai's regulator publishes the most detailed version of these requirements, which is useful context even outside Dubai. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advises that any mandatory subject lesson should be at least twenty-five minutes. It requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ.

Two further KHDA points are worth knowing because they bound what any tutor can honestly offer. Schools must ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, and for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. So support in these subjects means working with the school's own approved material and scheme, not supplying an alternative syllabus.

What the market charges, and what a parent can verify

The most useful thing about a published rate is not the number; it is whether you can check it. So this section is organised by verifiability. Every band below names the provider or survey that published it, which means you can open their page and see whether it still says what it said. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in.

The bands, with their sources: budget online and university-student tutors from roughly AED 45-150, with one content platform publishing from AED 45-65 and one learning platform from AED 33-52. A qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150-300, with one UAE agency publishing International GCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists at AED 200-450 and above, with a UK agency quoting AED 270. Premium named tutors at AED 500-650, with one provider publishing AED 650. In-home one-to-one at AED 180-500 including travel.

For monthly budgeting, surveys put a weekly hour at roughly AED 240-600 for budget tutoring, AED 600-1,200 for mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised monthly packages include online bundles from around AED 799 for eight sessions and in-home bundles at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. None of these figures is an IB Gram price, and nothing here is a quote.

The checks worth running on any quote are three. Does the rate come with a session length attached, since an hour and ninety minutes are different products. Does it come with a session count and a target, since an open-ended weekly slot is not a plan. And is there something you can see before paying, because a free trial lesson on your own material is evidence and a consultation call is a description.

The line on assessed work, and on official materials

  • Criteria, exemplars, questioning and feedback on the student's own work only
  • No writing or finishing of any assessed component, at any price
  • Official materials are cited and linked, never reproduced or supplied here
  • Examiner status confers no access to boundaries or unseen papers

A service in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price and ranks for searches a parent in Al Mamourah might run. So the boundary has to be printed rather than implied. A tutor explains the criteria, works through published exemplars, questions whether a design or a topic can carry the required depth, and reads the student's own draft to name the weak criterion. The student produces the work.

Nobody here writes, finishes or edits to completion an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay or any coursework. Submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice under the board's rules and the penalty falls on the candidate rather than on whoever was paid. That is not a disclaimer; it is the reason the blocks on this page are built to finish two weeks before a school's internal deadline.

There is a parallel rule about materials that parents are rarely told. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson. They are cited and linked here rather than reproduced or supplied, because redistributing them is a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure as well. A service offering a mark-scheme bundle as a selling point is offering something it does not own.

The same caution covers examiner claims. Current examiner status is a specific thing that can either be evidenced or cannot, and it grants no access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or unseen paper content. A tutor who has taught a syllabus for years is worth hiring on that basis alone, and a tutor whose main selling point is proximity to the board deserves a direct question about what exactly is being claimed.

What we can and cannot cover in this emirate

No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number. The honest version is more useful to a family in Al Mamourah than an implied promise of everything, so here it is as a table: which subjects match quickly, which take longer, and what happens when nobody suitable is available.

The pattern is predictable. Mathematics, the three separate sciences, English and economics match within a few days at both IGCSE and Diploma level. Less commonly taught subjects, Higher Level options with small national cohorts, and anything requiring a specific language of instruction take longer and sometimes cannot be matched at all in a given month. That is a supply fact rather than a policy.

What matters is what happens then. You are told, with a date or an alternative plan, rather than being matched to somebody adjacent to the subject. Six sessions spent discovering that a general science graduate has not taught Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level are six weeks that an exam-year student does not get back, and a clear no in week one is worth more than a comfortable yes.

One structural note to close on. Because delivery is online and one-to-one, the pool is national rather than local, which is precisely why the availability table below has anything in the quick column at all. A service promising in-home coverage across Ras Al Khaimah for these subjects would be promising something the local teaching supply cannot support, and that is the trade this page has been describing throughout.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Mamourah

These notes explain which schools and which boards each district feeds into, because that is what determines the syllabus codes a tutor needs to know.

Al Mamourah

City-area district near the creek. Students travel out to Al Nakheel or Al Hamra Village, so the working session window starts around five. Households here frequently run Cambridge codes for one child and Pearson codes for another.

Al Qusaidat

Adjacent and on the same routes, with the same mix of boards and the same evening constraint. Component-level problems arrive here from the same small teaching sets.

Julphar

Shares the city-area school run. A noticeable share of students here sit Indian-curriculum examinations alongside siblings on international boards, which widens the range of codes in a single household.

Al Nakheel

Holds much of the emirate's private secondary capacity and most of its Cambridge entries. A student schooled here and living in Al Mamourah loses close to an hour daily to travel.

Al Hamra Village

Coastal cluster thirty minutes south and the emirate's main route into IB programmes, which makes it the source of most Diploma component questions from this area.

Mina Al Arab

Newer coastal development with limited local secondary provision. Mid-stage transfers are common and often mean a student has been taught one board's question style and will sit another's.

Al Dhait

Large southern district spread across more schools than any other area in the emirate, producing the widest mix of syllabus codes in one neighbourhood.

Seih Al Uraibi

Inland district on the southern approaches, sharing Al Mamourah's window and the same scarcity of specialists in less commonly taught subjects.

School ecosystem

Ras Al Khaimah schools serving the city-area districts

Teaching sets in these schools are small by national standards, which concentrates a subject's expertise in one or two people. That is arithmetic rather than criticism, and it is why component-level support from outside the emirate adds something here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Collect four pieces of information

The most recent marked paper, the board and syllabus code from the entry confirmation, the level or tier, and the date of the next assessment. Two messages to the school produce all four, and together they turn a first session from a diagnosis into a plan.

  2. 02

Name the component, not the subject

A weak Paper 2 and a stalled investigation design in the same subject need different people and different work. Tell us which component the marks are coming off, or send the script and let the tutor identify it before any teaching is proposed.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on your own material

A real lesson rather than a sales call, run on a question your child got wrong. No payment and no card needed, and you are welcome to watch. What you are judging is how the tutor handles a student who is stuck, which is the part that repeats across every later session.

  4. 04

A plan matched to the diagnosis

Content gaps get teaching weeks; method habits get a fortnight of deliberate drilling; command-term errors get three sessions. You get the sequence in writing, with the component target named, so the plan can be checked against the diagnosis rather than taken on trust.

  5. 05

A marked paper as the measure

A diagnostic paper at the start and a comparable one six to eight sessions later, both marked against the published scheme, give component-level movement instead of an impression. On a core component the measure is the criterion band rather than a mark.

  6. 06

    An honest coverage answer

For a Higher Level option with a small national cohort there may be nobody suitable free this month. You hear that, with a date or an alternative, rather than being placed with somebody adjacent. In an exam year a clear no in week one beats a comfortable yes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The component is the unit of work

Matching happens on the failing paper or criterion rather than on the subject name. It is slower to arrange and measurably more effective, particularly in an emirate where a Higher Level teaching set can be a single person covering several courses.

Specific losses, named with their fixes

This page lists the actual errors that repeat in scripts at this level and roughly how long each takes to correct. Most are habits rather than knowledge, which is why one-to-one attention changes them and a class of twenty-four cannot.

The UAE subjects counted in the week

Arabic, Islamic education and social studies sit alongside the international curriculum under federal rules, and a revision plan that ignores them has assumed hours that do not exist. No competitor page in this market treats them as part of the timetable.

No boundary tables or papers reproduced

Grade boundaries, mark schemes and syllabus documents belong to the boards and are cited and linked rather than copied. A service offering them as downloads is distributing material it does not own, and the figures go stale every series.

Rates printed with their publisher

Every AED band here names the survey or provider that published it, so a parent can open the source and check whether it still says that. Attribution is the difference between a figure you can verify and a number you have been handed.

Coverage limits disclosed in a table

Which subjects match quickly, which take longer, and what happens when nobody is free. No page in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mamourah: your questions answered

Is there anyone in Al Mamourah who has actually taught my child's exact paper?+

Possibly not locally, and that is the honest answer. Ras Al Khaimah's private provision is concentrated in a few areas and a Higher Level or Extended-tier teaching set can be one person covering several courses. Because lessons here are delivered one-to-one over live video, the pool is national rather than local, so a tutor who has taught your child's specific component can be matched regardless of where they live. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; home visits are a service we run in India only.

Which four documents make the first Al Mamourah session productive?+

Four things, all obtainable in two messages to the school: the most recent marked paper, the board and syllabus code from the entry confirmation, the level or tier, and the date of the next assessment. The marked paper matters most, because it shows whether marks are being lost to missing content, to working done mentally without a written method line, or to answering a different question from the one asked. Those three need different plans and look identical from outside.

My child's percentage looks fine but the grade is poor. How?+

Because a percentage is an aggregate and a grade comes from boundaries that are set per series by the awarding body and genuinely move. A mock boundary is an estimate from earlier series rather than a rule. More usefully, an aggregate hides the component shape: a strong paper beside a weak one produces the same total as two mediocre papers and has a far better prospect over eight weeks. Ask the school for component-level marks rather than the overall figure.

Which component is usually the quickest to improve?+

On Cambridge sciences, the alternative-to-practical paper, by a clear margin. Its mark scheme accepts a defined vocabulary about controlling variables, repeating readings, improving precision and identifying anomalies, plus reading and completing a results table. Five past papers with the scheme open typically moves that component further than the same time spent on theory. Across all subjects, command-term discipline is next fastest, usually about three sessions, and it then transfers to every other paper the student sits.

Do the mandatory UAE subjects affect my child's revision time?+

Yes, and most plans ignore it. Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside whatever international curriculum they are licensed for, so a nine-subject IGCSE student has a fuller week than nine subjects implies. Mapping the real week before planning sessions takes ten minutes and prevents a term of over-commitment. It also explains why an evening slot that looked free on paper keeps being cancelled in practice.

Can a tutor support Arabic or Islamic education for my child?+

Within limits that are worth knowing. Dubai's regulator requires schools to ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, and states that for the mandatory subjects any different or additional content needs prior permission from the Ministry of Education. So honest support means working with the school's own approved scheme and assessment rather than supplying an alternative syllabus, and it is a different kind of brief from preparing an external examination paper.

How do I know which English course my child is actually sitting?+

From the entry confirmation, because the timetable usually shows the word English and nothing useful. There are four plausible courses: English as a Second Language, which measures reading precision and has a word-limited summary; First Language English, which measures register and answering the question about a text; Diploma English A, which assesses analysis of how meaning is made; and Diploma English B, a language-acquisition course. A tutor matched to the wrong one will work very diligently on the wrong skill.

Does the IB investigation really have to be designed before data collection?+

Yes, and this is the single most expensive thing families learn late. The scientific investigation is assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each, and a design with no genuine independent variable range caps three of those four criteria before any writing begins. So the highest-value session on the whole component sits weeks before any draft exists, and it is the session almost nobody books because nothing has visibly gone wrong yet.

Can you supply past papers and mark schemes for us to work from?+

We cite and link them rather than supplying them. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, and redistributing them is a copyright matter; for unreleased material it is a malpractice exposure as well. Your school's subject teacher or exams officer is the proper route to the material your child is entitled to use, and the boards publish a substantial amount openly on their own sites.

Why is a method mark worth worrying about?+

Because it is free credit a student is declining. On mathematics and physics papers the scheme awards marks for a correct approach even where the final answer is wrong, and a student who works mentally and writes one line forfeits all of it. Across a full paper that habit can cost a grade on its own. The fix is a fortnight of deliberate practice writing the substitution line every time, which requires somebody watching the student work and interrupting.

Is eight weeks enough if the losses are spread across every component?+

Spread evenly across components usually means content coverage, which is the slowest thing to fix, so eight weeks will move it less than it would move a technique problem. It is still worth doing, with the priority on the largest component and on timing, because running out of marks in the final quarter of a paper is recoverable quickly. What eight weeks cannot do is re-teach two years, and any plan claiming otherwise is selling hours rather than diagnosing.

What if nobody is available for a Higher Level option we need?+

You are told, with a date or an alternative plan, rather than matched to somebody adjacent to the subject. Less commonly taught Higher Level options have small national cohorts and the specialists are correspondingly few. Six sessions spent discovering that a general graduate has not taught the course are six weeks an exam-year student does not recover, so a clear no in the first week is more valuable than a comfortable yes that unravels in the second month.

Does online delivery work for a student who needs somebody watching their working?+

It does, with one piece of setup: a document camera or a phone propped over the page so the tutor can see the paper as the student writes. That has to be asked for and arranged in the first session rather than discovered in the fourth. With it, the tutor sees the working line by line and can interrupt mid-calculation, which is the main thing a physically present tutor does and the one advantage worth engineering around.

Can one plan cover both my IGCSE child and my Diploma child?+

One approach, two plans. The diagnostic method is the same for both: get the marked script, translate the grade into a component, and match a specialist to that component. What differs is the calendar and the assessed-work element, because the Diploma child has internal deadlines for core components and the IGCSE child has an entry and a terminal paper. Siblings get separate tutors matched to their own codes, and running the sessions on consecutive slots keeps it to one committed evening.

How do we judge whether the component work is landing?+

By the component, not by the overall mark. If the plan targeted the alternative-to-practical paper, the measure is that paper's mark on a comparable past paper marked to the published scheme. If it targeted command terms, the measure is the long-answer marks across a mixed set of questions. An improvement in the aggregate with no movement in the targeted component means something else changed, and that is worth knowing rather than celebrating.

Is private tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah actually permitted?+

Yes, under a permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Tutoring without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and the ministry has published no amounts, so any figure quoted to you is invented.

Send the script and the code

The fastest route to useful tuition is a marked paper and a syllabus code. With those two things a tutor can tell you within one session whether your child is losing marks to content, to unwritten method lines or to the command term, and the three need different work over very different timescales. The trial lesson is free, runs on your child's own material, and you are welcome to watch it. Lessons are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time, and if no specialist for your component is free this month we will tell you so.
