IGCSE Science Tutor in Jumeirah 1

An IGCSE science tutor in Jumeirah 1 is usually hired against a date rather than a feeling. A candidate in Dubai sits the Cambridge June or November series, and the Pearson November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran to 19 November 2026, with entries closing months before that. This page works backwards from those windows for Jumeirah 1 families, naming the syllabus codes, the practical papers and the weeks that are genuinely left. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625, 0653 and 0654 taught to the published syllabus
  • Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SD0 covered to the same depth
  • Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time, one-to-one over live video
  • One free 45-minute trial lesson per family, no card details collected

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 1

Hiring against a date, not a hunch

Most searches for an IGCSE science tutor in Jumeirah 1 begin after a specific piece of paper arrives home: a mock grade, a predicted grade sheet, or a parents' evening comment that the practical paper is pulling the average down. The useful question at that point is not whether tutoring works in general. It is how many teaching weeks remain before the paper, what those weeks can realistically cover, and which part of the course is costing the most marks per hour of effort. That is a calendar problem before it is a teaching problem, and it has a different answer in October than it does in March.

The dates are public and they are not flexible. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, and those are the two open to a candidate in Dubai -- the February and March series is offered to India only. Final entries for a June series close in the spring, months ahead of the first paper, with forecast grades following a few weeks later and results in August; a November entry runs on the same shape and reports in January. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sits in May/June and November, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Everything a tutor does has to fit inside that frame.

Jumeirah 1 sits in the densest private-school market in the country. KHDA's 2024-25 figures put 387,441 students across 227 private schools in Dubai, running 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum accounting for 37% of enrolment and the Indian curriculum 26%. In practice that means a Jumeirah 1 street can hold three families sitting three different science specifications in the same term, which is exactly why a tutor who asks for the syllabus code first is worth more than one who asks for the year group.

There is also a delivery fact to state early. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a science subject that turns out to be an advantage rather than a compromise, because the person who knows where the Extended paper hides its marks is rarely the person who happens to live within a twenty-minute drive of Beach Road.

The rest of this page is built as a countdown. It names the courses and their codes, separates the two practical papers, counts the exam calendar backwards from the paper to the entry deadline, lists the topics where marks actually disappear, sets out what the Dubai market charges, and states plainly what a tutor may and may not touch in a piece of assessed science work. Read the calendar section first if your child sits a paper this academic year.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Jumeirah 1 families reach IGCSE science from three directions: a British primary and lower secondary, an IB Middle Years Programme, or an Indian or American middle school. The entry point changes what the first six weeks of tuition have to repair, so the three routes are described separately below.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson International GCSE Science

A two-year course examined by terminal paper. Cambridge offers Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 as separate subjects, plus Combined Science 0653 and Coordinated Sciences 0654 as compressed routes. Pearson offers Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 and Science Double Award 4SD0. Each written paper carries its own command-term vocabulary, and the mark scheme is unforgiving about the difference between describe, explain and suggest.

Dubai centres sit under KHDA licensing for the school but under Cambridge or Pearson rules for the exam itself, and the centre's administrative zone decides which version of the timetable applies. Cambridge is explicit that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used, so a Jumeirah 1 family should confirm the zone with the exams officer rather than with a search engine.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP Years 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

The science route several Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim campuses run instead of IGCSE. Assessment is criterion-based across knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science, each marked out of eight. Students arriving at IGCSE from MYP usually hold strong investigation skills and weak timed-recall habits, because the MYP rarely asks for a two-mark definition under clock pressure.

The transfer matters locally because families in Jumeirah 1 frequently change route rather than district, moving between a British campus in Al Safa and an IB campus in Umm Suqeim without relocating. A student moving from MYP Year 5 into IGCSE Year 11 needs the specification content audited topic by topic in the first fortnight, since criterion-marked work does not map onto a syllabus checklist.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Sciences

Where a strong IGCSE science grade is usually spent. Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Sports, Exercise and Health Science run at Standard and Higher Level, each with an internally assessed scientific investigation and a collaborative sciences project. HL demands a level of quantitative confidence that an IGCSE Extended grade predicts far better than an IGCSE Core grade does.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places across the emirate. For a Jumeirah 1 family that widens the DP options within a short drive, and it makes the Year 11 science decision more consequential: a Core-tier IGCSE grade can quietly close an HL science door that was open in Year 9.

A LevelAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International A Level Sciences

The other common destination from IGCSE science in Dubai, run by most British-curriculum campuses in the Al Safa and Umm Suqeim cluster. Cambridge International A Level and Pearson International A Level both expect fluency with the IGCSE Extended content as a starting point, and both front-load the first term with the material an Extended candidate has already met once.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five, which is the detail that quietly changes which sciences are worth funding.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science is not one subject with one failure mode. Below are the courses a Jumeirah 1 student is likely to be sitting, with the part of each that most often costs marks. The tutoring plan for an eight-week countdown differs sharply between them.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and vocabulary-sensitive. Marks go on transport in plants, homeostasis and the genetics calculations, and on the difference between an answer that names a process and one that explains a mechanism. Extended candidates lose most in the longer data-interpretation items where the stem supplies a graph and asks for a reasoned conclusion.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Three predictable pressure points: moles and reacting-mass calculations, electrolysis products at each electrode, and organic chemistry naming and reaction types. Extended papers reward candidates who show working line by line, because method marks survive an arithmetic slip while a bare final answer does not.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity and magnetism dominate the lost marks, followed by the equations-of-motion graph work and thermal physics. The recurring error is not conceptual but procedural: unconverted units, missing prefixes and answers quoted to a precision the data does not support.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double award

Three disciplines compressed into a double award. The syllabus is narrower than three separate subjects but the papers still sample across all three, so a student who is strong in biology and weak in physics has nowhere to hide. Revision has to be rationed by discipline rather than by topic order.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Single award

A single-award route taken where timetable space is tight. It is the course most often misread by families, because a good grade here does not carry the same weight into A Level sciences as a separate-subject grade. Worth checking against the destination sixth form before Year 11 begins.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology 4BI1

Single tier

Untiered, with two written papers and no separate practical exam; practical skills are assessed inside the written papers. Candidates coming from Cambridge notice the longer extended-response items and the heavier emphasis on experimental design, which has to be practised in writing rather than discussed.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1

Single tier

Calculation-dense, with titration arithmetic, yield and atom economy appearing reliably. The command terms differ from Cambridge in small but costly ways, so a student switching boards mid-course needs a mark-scheme comparison before they need more content.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1

Single tier

Formula-sheet discipline is the differentiator. Students who learn which equations are provided and which must be recalled convert several marks a paper. The practical-skills questions ask for variables, control and sources of error in specific wording that rewards rehearsal.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science Double Award 4SD0

Double award

Three papers, one per discipline, graded as two IGCSEs. A common Dubai choice where a student needs science breadth without three full subject slots. The risk is uneven preparation: the double award grade is pulled down by whichever discipline is neglected in the final six weeks.

IGCSE Mathematics as a science dependency

Core and Extended

Rearranging formulae, standard form, percentage change and gradient work are maths skills examined inside science papers. Where a physics grade is stuck below target despite good content recall, the diagnostic is usually algebraic fluency rather than physics knowledge, and it is faster to fix.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every IGCSE science request from this part of Dubai. The right one depends mostly on how many weeks are left and whether the problem is content coverage, exam technique or a single topic.

Weekly one-to-one, term time

A fixed sixty or ninety-minute slot on the same day each week, running from October through to the paper. This is the format that repairs content gaps, because it allows work to be set between sessions and marked at the start of the next one. For three separate sciences it usually means two slots a week, not three.

  • Same tutor, same slot, Gulf Standard Time
  • Written work set between sessions and marked against the mark scheme
  • Syllabus checklist updated each fortnight
  • Pauses available for school mock weeks

Countdown intensive

A compressed block in the six to eight weeks before a paper, typically two sessions a week on one discipline at a time. The work is almost entirely past-paper based, with each session ending in a timed section done unaided. This format changes technique and triage rather than knowledge, and it is the honest option when a family starts late.

  • Past-paper sections under exam timing
  • Command-term drilling against real mark schemes
  • Triage: topics abandoned deliberately, not accidentally
  • Written feedback the student can take into the exam hall

Single-topic repair

Two to four sessions on one named failure: electrolysis, moles, electricity, genetics crosses, or graph work. Useful when the rest of the grade is solid and one topic keeps reappearing in the lost marks. Families in Jumeirah 1 often use this between mock results and the real entry deadline.

  • Scoped from the student's own marked mock paper
  • One topic, one measurable outcome
  • No long-term commitment
  • Ends with a timed question set on that topic alone

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 1

01

What an IGCSE science tutor can change in the weeks that are left

The honest answer to the opening question depends on the number of teaching weeks before the paper. With twenty weeks, content can be rebuilt from the specification upwards, including the topics a student has never really understood. With eight weeks, the work is triage: identify the three highest-yield topics, drill them to a reliable standard, fix the command-term habits that leak marks across every question, and deliberately abandon what cannot be fixed. With three weeks, the only honest offer is exam technique, timing and the most frequently examined content.

That distinction matters because the wrong plan at the wrong distance wastes the budget. A family that starts an IGCSE science tutor in Jumeirah 1 six weeks out and asks for full syllabus coverage will get thin coverage of everything and improvement in nothing. The same hours spent on three named topics and twenty past-paper sections move a grade boundary far more reliably. A tutor who will not tell you which topics are being dropped is not running a countdown; they are running a syllabus tour.

The table below is the shape of an eight-week block, which is the most commonly requested length in this district between the November mocks and the spring papers. Each week carries one focus, one piece of evidence that it worked, and a session split. It is written for a single discipline. For a double award or three separate sciences, the block runs twice as long or covers one discipline at a time rather than compressing all three.

Evidence is the part families most often skip. A week without a measurable output is a week nobody can audit. A marked past-paper section, a timed topic test, or a corrected set of six-mark answers gives both the tutor and the parent something to compare against the following week. Without that, the only available signal is the school report, which arrives too late to change anything.

Which science course your child is actually sitting

The first thing worth establishing is the syllabus code, because the subject name alone does not identify the course. Two Jumeirah 1 students can both be studying IGCSE Physics and sit entirely different papers with different tiering rules, different practical arrangements and different command-term conventions. The code appears on the school's option booklet, on the exam entry confirmation and on the front page of any past paper the school has issued.

Cambridge separates its sciences into Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, each tiered into Core and Extended, and offers two compressed routes: Combined Science 0653 as a single award and Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as a double award. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1 as untiered single subjects, plus Science Double Award 4SD0, which is three papers graded as two qualifications. The structural difference that catches families out is tiering: a Cambridge Core entry caps the available grade, while the Pearson papers do not tier at all.

That distinction is the single most consequential piece of information in a Year 10 science conversation, and it is frequently discovered too late. A student entered for Core sciences cannot reach the top grades regardless of how well they perform, and the entry decision sits with the school and its exams officer rather than with the family. Any plan built with an IGCSE science tutor in Jumeirah 1 should start by confirming the tier in writing, because it determines whether the ceiling being worked towards actually exists.

The table sets the courses side by side. Paper numbering and practical arrangements are given as the structural shape rather than as a substitute for the syllabus document; the live specification on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com is always the reference, and no awarding-body material is reproduced or supplied here.

The practical component, and what each version actually rewards

  • Variables named, and the method of control stated for each
  • Significant figures consistent with the instrument, not the calculator
  • Anomalies identified before averages are taken
  • Conclusions limited to what the data supports
  • Improvements that change the result, not just repeat it

Practical assessment is where the two boards diverge most, and where online tuition is most often questioned. Cambridge offers centres a choice between a timetabled practical test sat in a laboratory and an alternative-to-practical written paper that examines the same skills on paper. Pearson assesses practical skills inside its written papers rather than through a separate component. In all three arrangements, what is actually being marked is written: the identification of independent, dependent and control variables, the recognition of sources of error, the reading of apparatus to an appropriate precision, and the drawing of a conclusion the data can support.

That is the part families misunderstand. A student does not lose practical marks because they have not held a burette; they lose them because they wrote that the experiment should be repeated without saying what repetition achieves, or because they named a variable without saying how it was controlled. Those are writing habits, and they respond quickly to being drilled against a mark scheme. The laboratory work itself belongs to the school, which has the apparatus, the technicians and the safety arrangements.

Where the practical test is the chosen component, the school runs it and prepares candidates for it. Tuition in that case concentrates on the recording and analysis half: tabulating readings with consistent significant figures, plotting with a sensible scale, drawing a line of best fit rather than joining points, and calculating a gradient with units. All of that can be done on a shared screen with real data, and most of it is the same skill set the written papers examine anyway.

A practical point about format: a student who has to demonstrate a graph-drawing habit is better served by a session where the tutor can see the page. Sessions here use a document camera or a photographed worksheet so the working is visible, which is a lower-friction arrangement than it sounds and is how most of the marked work on this page's countdown gets reviewed.

04

The IGCSE exam calendar counted backwards from the paper

No competitor page in this market publishes an exam calendar, which is odd, because the calendar is the thing that makes every other decision urgent. Entry deadlines sit months before the paper. Forecast grades are due weeks before it. Results arrive months after. A family that discovers the entry deadline once the exam season has started has lost that series whether or not the tutoring was working.

Start with what a Dubai candidate can actually sit, because that is where most published advice goes wrong. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series; the February and March series exists but is offered to India only, and the Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests that run in March, May and October are a different product entirely and are not IGCSE. So the choice in Jumeirah 1 is June, with November as the resit route. Counted backwards from a June paper that means final entries in the spring, roughly four months earlier, forecast grades a few weeks after that, results in August and certificates later in the autumn. The exact days belong to your school's statement of entry rather than to any page like this one, and the implication is the same either way: the tier and subject decisions are effectively made in the autumn term, before most schools have issued mock results.

Pearson's pattern is different and worth knowing separately. International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the International GCSE November series roughly a year ahead of the first paper, and those provisional dates can be revised, so the live timetable page is the reference rather than any restatement of it.

One Cambridge administrative detail deserves its own line, because it has cost candidates entire papers. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A Jumeirah 1 family should get the zone and the zone timetable from the school's exams officer, in writing, and should not infer it from a published timetable found online.

Where IGCSE science marks are actually lost

  • Working not shown, so method marks are unavailable after an arithmetic slip
  • Command term ignored: a description offered where an explanation is required
  • Units unconverted, prefixes dropped, precision overstated
  • Six-mark answers that list facts without linking them causally
  • Conclusions drawn beyond what the supplied data supports

Lost marks cluster, and the clusters are consistent enough to be worth naming. In chemistry, the reliable losses are reacting-mass and mole calculations where no working is shown, electrolysis questions where the product at each electrode is guessed rather than reasoned, and organic chemistry where the reaction type is named but the conditions are omitted. In physics, electricity and magnetism carry the heaviest losses, followed by motion graphs read as pictures rather than as gradients, and unit conversion errors that turn a correct method into a wrong answer.

In biology, the pattern is different: the content is usually known and the answer is usually too short. A six-mark question on transport in plants or on homeostasis wants a sequence of linked statements, and a student who writes three correct facts without connecting them collects half the marks. Genetics crosses lose marks on notation rather than understanding, and data-interpretation items lose them on conclusions that go further than the graph allows.

Across all three disciplines, the largest single recoverable category is command-term handling. Describe, explain, suggest, compare, state and calculate each have a settled meaning in the mark scheme, and each has a shape the answer must take. A student who answers every six-mark question with a description, whatever the verb, will cap out several grades below their knowledge. This is the cheapest thing to fix in a short countdown, because it transfers across every topic at once.

The diagnostic that makes any of this usable is the student's own marked script. Not a prediction, not a report comment, but the actual mock paper with the examiner's or teacher's marks on it. From that, a loss table can be built in a single session, and the rest of the block has a target. Any tutoring plan written before that script has been read is a guess.

06

Core or Extended: the Year 10 decision that sets the ceiling

Cambridge tiering is a quiet constraint that families often meet only when results arrive. Core and Extended entries sit different papers, and the Core route caps the grade available. A student performing well on Core papers can still be holding a grade that closes the door to an A Level science or an IB Higher Level science two years later, which is a route decision disguised as an exam-entry formality.

The decision belongs to the school, and it is normally made on mock evidence during Year 10 or early Year 11. That timing is the reason an autumn countdown matters more than it looks: the work done between September and the November entry deadline is not only preparation for the paper, it is the evidence base for the tier the student is entered at. A family that wants an Extended entry should be asking what evidence the school needs to see, and by when.

The reverse case is just as real. A student entered for Extended who cannot reliably access the harder items may collect a lower grade than a confident Core entry would have produced, and that grade sits on the transcript for Ministry of Education equivalency purposes as well as for sixth-form admission. The honest advice sometimes runs against the ambitious one, and a tutor who has read the marked script is better placed to say which case applies.

Pearson's untiered structure removes this decision but replaces it with a different one: subject count. Because the Double Award route grades three papers as two qualifications, it occupies fewer option slots, and families trade science depth for a second language or a humanities subject. Both trades are defensible; neither should be made without checking what the destination sixth form expects.

What science tuition costs around Jumeirah 1, and the home-visit question

Parents in this district ask about in-home tutoring first, and the question deserves a straight answer rather than a redirection. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is a real market with real prices. Published market figures put in-home visits at roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel built in, against roughly AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts the in-home band at AED 180-350 and specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors at AED 200-450 or more; monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

The premium buys travel, not teaching. An hour of in-home tuition in Jumeirah 1 includes the tutor's drive along Beach Road or Al Wasl Road in the late afternoon, and the pool of people willing to make that drive is defined by geography rather than by specialism. That is the structural problem with proximity as a selection criterion for a science subject: the number of tutors who know where Cambridge 0620 hides its marks is small, and the number of those who also live within twenty minutes of Jumeirah 1 is smaller still.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; our UAE teaching is delivered one-to-one over live video, and home visiting is a service we run only in India. Stated plainly, that is a narrower offer than some agencies advertise. It is also why a Jumeirah 1 family can be matched to a Chemistry specialist who teaches the exact specification rather than to whoever was available on that side of the city on a Tuesday.

Every figure in the table below is a market rate published by someone else, cited as such. It is not an IB Gram price list. Our own arrangement starts with one free 45-minute trial lesson, one per family, with no card details collected, and a quoted rate agreed afterwards against the subject and the number of weeks involved.

Ramadan, half term and the revision weeks that genuinely exist

  • Count the actual teaching weeks before agreeing a plan length
  • Fix the Ramadan slot in advance, not week by week
  • Pause for mock weeks, resume with the marked script
  • Use the winter break for the weakest discipline, not for all three
  • Protect one slot a week rather than booking three that collapse

A countdown written on a calendar that ignores the UAE academic year will not survive contact with it. Between an October start and a February paper sit a half-term break, a winter break, school mock weeks, and in most years a period of shortened school days. Counting those out of an eight-week plan often leaves five or six weeks of usable teaching time, which changes the triage substantially.

Ramadan matters for scheduling rather than for content. School hours shorten, afternoons are quieter and evenings reorganise around Iftar. Many Jumeirah 1 families move a weekday session to a post-Iftar slot, which works well for an older IGCSE candidate and poorly for a tired fourteen-year-old. The practical rule is to decide the Ramadan schedule in advance rather than week by week, because a slot that is renegotiated every week tends to disappear.

School mock weeks are the other structural interruption, and they are the most useful one. A mock paper is the single best diagnostic available, and a countdown should be built to arrive at the mock with something to test and to resume immediately afterwards with the marked script in hand. Pausing tuition during mocks and restarting with the script is usually better value than running sessions through a week when the student has no capacity to absorb anything.

The winter break is where a short intensive earns its place. Four sessions across a two-week break, concentrated on one discipline, cover ground that term-time weeks cannot, because there is no competing homework. Families in this district often use the break for the discipline that is furthest behind, then return to a single weekly slot on the other two.

Academic honesty in a science course, and the line a tutor holds

Science at IGCSE has less assessed coursework than it once did, but the honesty question still arises: around practical write-ups, around investigation tasks set by the school, and around any work that will be submitted as the student's own. The boundary is not subtle. A tutor may teach the content, model a method on a different example, explain the mark scheme, and give feedback on work the student has already produced alone. A tutor may not author any part of a piece that will be submitted for assessment, and may not supply text, data or analysis for it.

This matters commercially as well as ethically, because the UAE search results for IGCSE and IB help include operations that sell finished assessed work outright. One of them lists completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price. For a student, submitting that work is a malpractice matter with consequences that reach well beyond a single grade. Any tutor or agency willing to discuss producing assessed work should be treated as a risk to the student rather than as a convenience.

There is a related boundary around materials. We reference the official syllabus, past papers and mark schemes and point families to cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, and we do not reproduce or distribute those documents. Schools hold legitimate access to them, and the exams officer is the right route for a student who needs a specific past series. A tutor who offers an unlimited private library of board material is usually offering something they are not entitled to distribute.

Stating the boundary makes the service narrower and more useful at once. What a family is buying is teaching, diagnosis and feedback on the student's own work, which is the only form of help that survives contact with a terminal written exam. The grade on the paper has to be produced by the student in a hall with no support in the room, and the preparation should look like that.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah 1

Jumeirah 1 shares its school run, its traffic pattern and its tutor demand with the districts along and behind Beach Road. The notes below are about what each neighbourhood does to the start time of an evening science session.

Jumeirah 2

A short run along Beach Road or Jumeirah Street. Families here often share the same campuses as Jumeirah 1, and a 4.30pm science session is realistic on most weekdays.

Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim

Further down the coast and closer to the Kings' and Raffles campuses. The afternoon bottleneck is the Umm Suqeim Road junction, which pushes a safe session start to 5pm in term time.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

The inland approach, and where most of the Jumeirah 1 secondary cohort actually studies. Al Wasl Road traffic is heavier than Beach Road between 3pm and 4pm, which matters for a double science session.

Satwa and Al Hudaiba

Older, denser and closer to the city. Journey times are short but parking and pick-up at primary campuses eat the margin, so online sessions here often start earlier than the postcode suggests.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Reclaimed coastal addresses with no schools inside them, so every family commutes out. The commute is predictable, which makes a fixed weekly science slot easier to hold than in districts with campus traffic.

Palm Jumeirah

One access road and a single tunnel decide the afternoon. Families here benefit most from a session that does not require anyone to leave the island, which is the practical case for live video over a driving tutor.

City Walk and Al Jafiliya

Apartment living with short school runs to the Al Wasl and Satwa campuses. Study space is the constraint rather than travel, so session length is usually capped at sixty minutes for younger IGCSE candidates.

Al Manara and Al Barsha fringe

The inland edge of the Jumeirah catchment, feeding several British-curriculum campuses. Sheikh Zayed Road crossings are the variable, and a Thursday session is easier to protect than a Tuesday one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah 1

Campuses in and immediately beside Jumeirah 1

The schools a Jumeirah 1 address can reach without crossing Sheikh Zayed Road. Between them they run British, Indian, Japanese and IB provision, and every one of them delivers the KHDA mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside its licensed curriculum.

  • Emirates International School, Jumeirah
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeira
  • JSS Private School, Jumeirah
  • Latifa School for Girls, Jumeirah
  • Dubai Japanese School, Al Wasl
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa

The Al Safa and Umm Suqeim IGCSE cluster

Where most Jumeirah 1 students actually sit their IGCSE sciences. The cluster holds both Cambridge and Pearson centres, which is why two neighbours can be revising different specifications for the same named subject in the same term.

  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Jumeirah Primary School, Al Safa
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim

Schools are named as district context for families comparing campuses, exam boards and school-run timings. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and holds no affiliation with, endorsement from or contract with any school, school group, regulator or awarding body named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked script and the syllabus code

Not the report card. The actual marked mock paper and the syllabus code from the option booklet. Those two documents let a tutor build a loss table and tell you honestly how many weeks the plan needs. Without them, the first paid session is spent on diagnosis you could have had free.

  2. 02

Confirm the exam series and the tier

Ask the school's exams officer, in writing, which series the student is entered for, which Cambridge administrative zone the centre sits in, and whether the entry is Core or Extended. All three change the plan. The zone matters because Cambridge publishes six different timetables and will not accept responsibility for a missed paper.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One free 45-minute lesson per family, no card details collected. The tutor works on a real topic from the marked script, not a general assessment, and you get written feedback afterwards. If the match is wrong, say so and a different tutor is proposed before any payment is made.

  4. 04

Agree the block and the evidence

A number of weeks, a fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time, and a named output each week: a timed topic test, a marked past-paper section, a rewritten set of six-mark answers. The evidence is what makes the block auditable rather than reassuring.

  5. 05

    Review at the halfway point

Compare the loss table from week one against the current scripts. Topics that have been fixed come off; topics still leaking marks either get more time or get deliberately dropped. This is also the point to decide whether a second discipline joins the plan or waits until after the paper.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specification comes first

Every plan starts from the syllabus code and the student's own marked script, because IGCSE Physics 0625 and 4PH1 are different papers with different conventions. A tutor who teaches generic physics to a specific specification loses marks the student has already earned.

Specialism over proximity

A Jumeirah 1 address limits a driving tutor to whoever is within range in late-afternoon traffic. Teaching over live video removes that filter, so the selection criterion becomes whether the tutor knows the paper rather than whether they know the postcode.

The calendar is part of the service

Entry deadlines, forecast-grade dates and results dates are published, and they decide what is possible. Any plan here is costed against the actual number of teaching weeks left after breaks and mock weeks, not against an idealised term.

Written evidence every week

Each session produces something markable: a timed section, a corrected calculation set, an experimental-design answer. Progress is read from those, which is why a mid-block review can show what changed rather than asserting it.

Honest limits, stated early

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, no assessed work produced on a student's behalf, no board material redistributed, and no grade promised. Where no specialist is free for a niche course in a given week, we say so and give a date rather than substituting someone who does not know the paper.

Figures that carry a source

Market rates on this page are attributed to the organisation that published them and dated October 2026. Regulatory statements are attributed to u.ae, KHDA, Cambridge International or Pearson. Nothing here is presented as our own statistic without the underlying data.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 1: your questions answered

How late in Year 11 can an IGCSE science tutor still change the grade?+

Later than most families expect, but what changes depends on the distance. With twenty weeks, content can be rebuilt from the specification. With eight, the work is triage: three named topics drilled properly, command-term habits fixed across every question, and the rest deliberately set aside. With three weeks, the honest offer is exam technique, timing and the most frequently examined material. The one thing that does not work at short range is full syllabus coverage, which produces thin familiarity with everything and reliability in nothing. Ask any tutor at short notice which topics they intend to drop; if they will not name them, there is no plan.

Which IGCSE science syllabus codes does my child's Jumeirah 1 school use?+

The school's option booklet and the exam entry confirmation both carry it, and so does the front page of any past paper the school has issued. Cambridge uses Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625, Combined Science 0653 and Co-ordinated Sciences 0654. Pearson Edexcel uses Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 and Science Double Award 4SD0. The Al Safa and Umm Suqeim cluster around Jumeirah 1 contains both Cambridge and Pearson centres, so two neighbours studying the same named subject can be sitting different papers with different tiering rules. Confirm the code before agreeing a tutoring plan.

How are IGCSE science practicals assessed if the lessons happen online?+

What is marked in every arrangement is written work, not laboratory performance. Cambridge centres choose between a timetabled practical test and an alternative-to-practical written paper; Pearson assesses practical skills inside its written papers. In all three cases the marks go on naming variables and stating how they were controlled, reading instruments to an appropriate precision, identifying anomalies, plotting and calculating gradients, and limiting conclusions to what the data supports. Those are writing habits and they drill well on a shared screen. The laboratory work itself belongs to the school, which holds the apparatus, the technicians and the safety arrangements.

What is the difference between a Cambridge practical test and the alternative-to-practical paper?+

One is sat in a laboratory with apparatus, the other is a written paper that examines the same skills on paper. The centre decides which route its candidates take, so a family cannot choose between them; the exams officer can confirm which applies. For tuition the difference is small, because both assess the recording and analysis half of practical work: tabulating readings with consistent significant figures, spotting anomalies, plotting sensibly, drawing a line of best fit rather than joining points, and evaluating sources of error. Preparation for either should centre on written answers marked against the published scheme.

Should my child take Co-ordinated Sciences or three separate IGCSE sciences?+

It is a timetable trade rather than an ability question. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 compresses three disciplines into a double award, occupying fewer option slots and leaving room for another subject. Three separate subjects cover more content and carry more weight into A Level or Higher Level sciences. The risk with the double award is that papers sample across all three disciplines, so weakness in one is visible in the overall grade with nowhere to hide. Check what the destination sixth form expects before the option form is signed, because that expectation is the only decisive input.

When do Cambridge entries close for the series my Jumeirah 1 child will actually sit?+

Months before the papers, and the series matters: a Dubai candidate sits the Cambridge June series or the November one, never the February and March series, which Cambridge offers to India only. Final entries for June are made in the spring, roughly four months ahead of the first script, with forecast grades a few weeks before the exam period and results in August; a November entry closes earlier in the year and reports in January. Pearson gives you a date you can check against a published timetable -- its November 2026 International GCSE window ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Read backwards, that means the tier and subject decisions are effectively made in the autumn term, often before mock results are issued. A family planning autumn tuition should treat the entry deadline as the first fixed point in the plan and confirm both the series and the entry with the school's exams officer in writing.

Which Cambridge timetable zone is my child's Dubai exam centre in?+

The school's exams officer is the only reliable source for that. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for the centre's zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. That makes the zone a piece of information worth getting from the school's exams officer in writing rather than inferring from a timetable found online. It is also why revision schedules built from a generic timetable can quietly put a paper on the wrong day.

My child is entered for Core science — can they still move to Extended?+

Possibly, but the decision sits with the school and its exams officer, and it is made on evidence before the entry deadline. The practical consequence of a Core entry is that the grade available is capped, which can close an A Level or Higher Level science route two years later. If an Extended entry is the goal, ask the school what evidence it needs to see and by when, then build the autumn work to produce exactly that: marked topic tests and timed past-paper sections at Extended demand. After entries close, the tier is fixed for that series regardless of later progress.

How many hours a week of IGCSE science tuition make sense in Year 11?+

For one discipline, a single sixty or ninety-minute weekly slot with work set between sessions is usually enough during term time, rising to two sessions a week in a six to eight week countdown. For three separate sciences, two slots a week rotating between disciplines works better than three slots that collapse under homework pressure. The limiting factor is rarely the tutor's availability; it is the number of hours the student can give to independent work between sessions. A plan that leaves no room for that produces attendance rather than progress.

Do the three sciences need three different tutors?+

Not necessarily. Many tutors teach two disciplines to IGCSE depth comfortably, and biology and chemistry pair more often than physics and biology. Where a grade is tier-critical or a specific component is failing, a specialist in that single discipline is usually better value than one person covering all three thinly. The practical approach is to start with the discipline losing the most marks, establish a pattern there, and add a second only if the student's independent-study time can absorb it. Three concurrent tutors in Year 11 is rarely a workable schedule.

What does IGCSE science tuition cost around Jumeirah 1 and Al Safa?+

Published market bands for Dubai put budget online tutors at roughly AED 45-150 an hour, qualified subject tutors online at AED 150-300, in-home visits at AED 180-500 with travel included, and IGCSE or IB specialists at AED 200-450 or more. Bestimate's Dubai rate table gives in-home at AED 180-350; TutorChase publishes AED 270. Monthly packages seen in the market include roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. Those are other organisations' published figures as at October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. Our own rate is quoted after a free trial lesson against the subject and the number of weeks.

How should a Jumeirah 1 science revision schedule change during Ramadan?+

Most families move the session to a post-Iftar slot, and for an older IGCSE candidate it often works better than a shortened afternoon. School hours contract during Ramadan and evenings reorganise around Iftar, so a fixed post-Iftar slot is usually easier to protect than a 4pm one. The practical advice is to set the Ramadan schedule before the month begins rather than renegotiating weekly, because a slot that moves every week tends to disappear. For younger students the opposite often applies: a shorter session earlier in the day, with less content and more review, holds attention better than a late one.

Do IGCSE sciences count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

On the British track, students must show five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five, which changes which subjects are worth funding. Sciences count like any other accredited subject. Equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutoring platform performs or influences, and the requirements should be verified on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority before any decision rests on them.

Is a tutor allowed to help with a school science investigation task?+

Only within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the underlying content, model a method on a different example, explain what the mark scheme rewards, and give feedback on work the student has already produced alone. A tutor may not author any part of a piece that will be submitted for assessment, or supply text, data or analysis for it. That line matters in this market, because some operations in these search results sell finished assessed work outright, and a student who submits it faces a malpractice matter rather than a bad grade. Teaching and feedback are the only forms of help that survive a terminal exam.

What happens if no tutor is free for Pearson Double Award science that week?+

We say so and give a date rather than substituting somebody who does not know the specification. Science Double Award 4SD0 sits across three disciplines, so the match has to cover the discipline actually losing marks, and the pool for a specific component in a specific week is finite. Where the wait is longer than the countdown allows, the useful options are to start with the discipline that is covered now, or to begin with a single-topic repair block on the strongest available match. Both are stated before any payment, with the limitation named.

Does a tutor working with a Jumeirah 1 family need a MoHRE work permit?+

Yes, and this applies to online work as well. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, stated as a two-working-day completion.

Start from the script and the deadline

If your child sits an IGCSE science paper this academic year, two documents decide everything that follows: the marked mock script and the written confirmation of the series, zone and tier from the school's exams officer. Send the script, tell us the syllabus code, and the first conversation can be about which topics are worth the remaining weeks rather than about generalities. The trial lesson is one free 45-minute session per family with no card details collected, taught on a real topic from that script, with written feedback afterwards. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we will tell you plainly if the weeks left are too few for what you are hoping for.
