IB Chemistry Tutor in Jumeirah 1

An IB chemistry tutor in Jumeirah 1 is hired against a deadline, and usually against three of them at once: the school's internal investigation dates, the written papers of the May session, and a university application cycle that wants a predicted grade before any of it is finished. This page sets those three clocks side by side, says what should be secure by when across the two Diploma years, and triages which chemistry topics repay late work. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 1

A Diploma Chemistry student is running three clocks, and only one of them is the exam

Families in Jumeirah 1 usually look for chemistry help after a single trigger: a DP1 report, a DP2 mock, or a sentence from a school coordinator about the investigation. The useful first question is not what topic is hard. It is which deadline is closest, because a Diploma Chemistry student is simultaneously bound by three different calendars, each set by a different party, and the one that is closest decides what the next six sessions do.

The first clock belongs to the school. Internal deadlines for the scientific investigation, the first draft, the final submission, mock weeks, and the point at which predicted grades are agreed are all set by the school's own Diploma coordinator, published in a handbook, and often earlier than parents expect. The investigation is worth 20 per cent of the grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria, so a school deadline in the spring of DP1 is not a soft date to be negotiated.

The second clock is the examination session. UAE schools sit the May session, and the written assessment is Paper 1 - a multiple-choice section and a data-based section together worth 36 per cent - plus Paper 2 at 44 per cent. We do not publish specific IB session or results dates on these pages, because the IB's own site cannot be verified by automated checking and a wrong date on a revision plan is worse than no date. Every IB date on a plan should be confirmed with the school's Diploma coordinator, who holds the official timetable.

The third clock is the university cycle, and it runs earliest of the three. Applications to UK, US and many Gulf universities are submitted in the autumn of DP2 on the basis of a predicted grade, which is produced from DP1 results and the autumn mock. That means the chemistry grade that gets a student an offer is largely decided a full academic year before the paper is sat. A family that understands this plans chemistry support in DP1 rather than in February of DP2.

Jumeirah 1 students mostly commute to their Diploma school. Jumeirah Baccalaureate School is inside the district; the rest of this page's chemistry cohort travels to Raffles World Academy or Emirates International School in the Umm Suqeim cluster, or inland to Dubai International Academy and Dubai American Academy. Buses get home between 15:45 and 16:45, so a 17:00 session works on a good day and 18:30 works every day. Over a two-year course, the slot that holds is worth more than the slot that is ideal.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Jumeirah 1 address, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. For chemistry the trade is favourable: mechanisms are drawn and redrawn on a shared whiteboard while the question stays visible, the data booklet sits open beside them, and the session can be rewatched the night before a mock. What is removed is the drive and the requirement that the right chemist happens to live nearby.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry reaches a Jumeirah 1 student through one of a few routes, and the route determines which deadline bites first. The five stages below are set out with what Dubai schools actually do about timing, which is the part a revision plan has to respect.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP Years 1-5

MYP Sciences, with chemistry inside it

Chemistry taught as part of integrated sciences and assessed against four MYP criteria rather than a content list. Students become competent at designing investigations and processing data, which transfers directly into the Diploma's scientific investigation. The gap is content: a strong MYP student may arrive in DP1 without having met the mole as a working tool, which is the single most consequential absence in the subject.

Dubai IB continuum schools, including Jumeirah Baccalaureate School and Raffles World Academy, run MYP straight into the Diploma, and the October of DP1 is when the mole gap becomes visible. Families here often read it as a sudden collapse in ability. It is a predictable curriculum seam, and six weeks of concentrated work on moles, concentration and limiting reagents usually closes it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry 0620 or 4CH1 before the Diploma

The British-school route. More content taught than MYP, with a practical component and reasonable mole arithmetic, but almost no work on uncertainty and none on the kind of extended reasoning Paper 2 wants. Students from here are strong on recall and weak on justification: they can state Le Chatelier's principle and lose the marks for applying it to an unfamiliar equilibrium.

Jumeirah College, Dubai College and the British schools in the Al Safa and Al Sufouh cluster run IGCSE into A Level rather than into the Diploma, so a Jumeirah 1 student moving onto the Diploma route has normally changed school too. New teacher, new scheme of work and a new assessment model in one September, with the investigation arriving before anyone has settled.

SLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Chemistry Standard Level

Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3 at Standard Level, with Paper 1 of ninety minutes, Paper 2 of ninety minutes and the 24-mark scientific investigation. The data booklet is provided in both papers, which changes what has to be memorised and what has to be found quickly. Standard Level penalises imprecision heavily: an answer that describes a trend without naming the cause earns nothing.

Standard Level Chemistry is the usual Dubai choice for a student whose Higher Levels are elsewhere but who needs a science for a UAE or international application. The decision to stay at Standard Level or move up is normally taken in the February of DP1, which is also when the investigation planning starts, so the two conversations belong together.

HLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Chemistry Higher Level

The same six units with additional depth, a two-hour Paper 1 and a two-and-a-half-hour Paper 2. The extensions concentrate in energetics and thermodynamics, equilibrium calculations, acid-base theory and organic mechanisms, where Higher Level expects curly arrows drawn correctly and intermediates named. Extended-response questions reward sustained reasoning across four or five marks rather than a single correct statement.

Dubai students applying to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or chemical engineering generally need Chemistry at Higher Level, and the predicted grade for those applications is set in the autumn of DP2. That makes DP1 chemistry support an application decision rather than a remedial one, which is the opposite of how most families schedule it.

COREAges 16-19 · across both years

The Diploma core: TOK, Extended Essay and CAS

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are assessed alongside the six subjects and contribute up to three points on the diploma total. A chemistry Extended Essay needs a research question narrow enough to answer with school apparatus, and it competes directly for laboratory time with the scientific investigation, which is why the two have to be planned in the same conversation.

Dubai schools set internal Extended Essay milestones well before the submission window, typically with a full draft due in DP2 autumn. For a chemistry essay the experimental work therefore has to be completed in DP1 summer term, which is exactly when Jumeirah families travel. Fixing the laboratory dates before the holiday is the most practical scheduling advice on this page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is the subject of this page, and the rest of the grid is the company it usually keeps. A Diploma timetable is bought whole, and the three subjects a chemistry student most often needs help with alongside it are predictable enough to list honestly.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Structure 1-3 and Reactivity 1-3 on the current guide. Paper 1 at 36 per cent, Paper 2 at 44, the scientific investigation at 20. Teaching concentrates on mole arithmetic, sign conventions, equilibrium reasoning and organic mechanisms drawn to mark-scheme standard.

Biology

SL and HL

Unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and interdependence, continuity and change. Taken with Chemistry by nearly every medicine applicant in Dubai, and the two investigations fall in the same window, which is a scheduling problem rather than an academic one.

Physics

SL and HL

Five themes, the same assessment shape as Chemistry, and a shared set of data-handling skills. A student who has learned uncertainty propagation in one subject carries it into the other, which makes the pairing cheaper to support than it looks.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

The route that carries Higher Level Chemistry comfortably: logarithms for pH work, exponential relationships for rates, and algebraic confidence for equilibrium expressions. Students lose marks in unstructured questions, where nothing signals which tool is wanted.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Workable with Chemistry, with one caveat. The logarithmic work behind pH and the exponential treatment of rate have to be taught rather than assumed, and that usually costs two or three extra sessions in DP1 rather than causing a problem later.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL and HL

Anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and a scientific investigation of the same shape. Chosen in Dubai as a third science by students who want a lighter load and then discovered to have real data-handling demands of its own.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

An interdisciplinary option satisfying either group 3 or group 4. Shares a surprising amount of chemistry - buffering, nutrient cycling, pollution load - so a chemistry tutor can often support it without a separate match.

Economics

SL and HL

Micro, macro, the global economy and three internal assessment commentaries. Frequently the sixth subject for a science-heavy Dubai student, and its commentary deadlines collide with the investigation more often than anyone plans for.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Paper 1 unseen analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral and the HL essay. Science students tend to underrate Paper 1 because it is a timed skill rather than a body of content that can be revised.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Diploma core

Up to three points on the total. Support here is process coaching only: framing a knowledge question, narrowing a research question until school apparatus can answer it, and reading a draft to ask what the evidence does not yet support.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Chemistry support is bought in four shapes, and the right one is chosen by which clock is closest rather than by preference. A DP1 student planning an investigation and a DP2 student ten weeks from a paper need different arrangements entirely.

Two-year weekly one-to-one

One hour a week from DP1 autumn through to study leave. This is the arrangement that matches the course, because chemistry taught in October is revisited in February instead of being met once and forgotten. It also means the investigation and the Extended Essay get planned rather than rescued, which is where most of the avoidable pain in this subject sits.

  • A fixed weekly hour on Gulf Standard Time across both years
  • Content teaching in DP1, assessment technique in DP2
  • Investigation and Extended Essay planning folded in at the right term
  • Work set each week and marked before the next session

A DP1 foundation block

Six to eight sessions in the first term of DP1 aimed squarely at the seam between MYP or IGCSE chemistry and the Diploma. Moles as a working tool, concentration, limiting reagents, enthalpy sign conventions and the habit of justifying rather than stating. The cheapest intervention available in the subject, and the one families most often skip.

  • Six to eight sessions in DP1 autumn
  • Moles, concentration and limiting reagents first
  • Sign conventions in energetics taught explicitly
  • Justification written to Paper 2 standard from the start

Investigation process coaching

Two or three sessions around the school's own internal deadlines, strictly on the tutor's side of the academic-honesty boundary. Narrowing a research question until the school laboratory can answer it, choosing a variable that is genuinely controllable, planning enough repeats to justify an uncertainty, and reading a draft to ask which claim the data does not support.

  • Timed to the school's published internal deadlines
  • Research question narrowed to available apparatus
  • Repeats and uncertainty planned before data collection
  • Draft read and questioned; nothing written for the student

A final ten-week block

Two sessions a week for ten weeks before the written papers, built from the topic triage further down this page. Topics that repay late work get the time; topics that do not are consolidated rather than rebuilt. The block closes with full timed papers marked against the published scheme and errors reported back by cause.

  • Two hours a week for ten weeks before the papers
  • Topic triage decides what gets rebuilt and what gets consolidated
  • Data booklet drilled as a tool rather than read about
  • Two full timed papers in the closing fortnight

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 1

01

The three clocks a Diploma Chemistry student is running at once

A Diploma Chemistry student in Dubai is bound by three separate calendars, and the one a family notices is rarely the one that matters most. The school sets internal deadlines for the scientific investigation and the Extended Essay, publishes mock weeks, and fixes the point at which predicted grades are agreed. The IB sets the examination session. The universities set the application window, which opens in the autumn of DP2 and closes long before any paper is written.

Of the three, the university clock runs earliest and is the one most often missed. An application submitted in autumn of DP2 carries a predicted grade that the school derives from DP1 results and the DP2 autumn mock. A family that plans chemistry support for February of DP2 has already passed the point where the grade on the offer letter was decided. Support that begins in DP1 is cheaper, calmer and influences the number that actually travels with the application.

The school clock is the one most often underestimated. Internal investigation deadlines in Dubai schools commonly fall in DP1 spring or DP2 early autumn, well ahead of the IB's own upload window, because the department needs time to mark and moderate. Those dates are in the Diploma handbook. Reading them in September and writing them into a calendar is a twenty-minute job that removes most of the emergencies this subject generates.

The examination clock is the one we deliberately say least about. UAE schools sit the May session, and the structure is fixed: Paper 1 with a multiple-choice section and a data-based section at 36 per cent, Paper 2 at 44 per cent, and the investigation at 20. Specific IB session and results dates are not published on these pages, because the IB's own site cannot be verified by automated checking and a plan built on a wrong date is worse than a plan built on none. The Diploma coordinator holds the official timetable and is the right source.

DP1 term by term: what chemistry should be secure by when

DP1 is where chemistry grades are actually built, and it is almost always the year families do not buy support in. The content sequence varies between Dubai schools, but the dependencies do not: nothing in Reactivity works without the mole, nothing in equilibrium works without a secure grasp of dynamic reversibility, and nothing in organic chemistry survives without functional-group recognition becoming automatic.

By the end of the first term, mole arithmetic should be a tool rather than a topic. That means a student can convert between mass, moles, concentration and volume without hesitating, can identify a limiting reagent in an unfamiliar equation, and can carry a percentage yield calculation to a sensible number of significant figures. Students arriving from MYP Sciences frequently cannot do this in October, and it is the single highest-value repair in the subject because every later unit depends on it.

By the end of the second term, bonding and structure should be secure enough to predict rather than recall - shapes, polarity, intermolecular forces and the reasoning that links structure to physical property. Energetics should be arriving, and with it the sign convention that costs more marks than any other single idea in Standard Level chemistry. An exothermic change has a negative enthalpy value, and a student who writes it positive has lost the mark regardless of the arithmetic.

By the end of DP1, equilibrium and the beginning of organic chemistry should be in place, and the investigation should have a research question, a method and ideally its data. A student entering DP2 with the investigation unplanned is carrying 20 per cent of the grade into the busiest academic year of their school life, alongside university applications and the autumn mock that sets their prediction.

DP2 autumn: mocks, the investigation and the application in one term

The autumn term of DP2 is the hardest term of the Diploma, and chemistry is usually one of three subjects making the same demand at once. The mock sits in it. The investigation's final internal deadline often sits in it. The university application sits in it. And the predicted grade, which is the number that actually reaches an admissions office, is agreed from that mock during it.

The practical consequence is that DP2 autumn is a bad term to start from scratch and a good term to consolidate. Sessions in this window should be spent on assessment technique rather than content: writing justification to the standard Paper 2 credits, using the data booklet as a tool rather than a reference, and converting correct chemistry into a written form a mark scheme can award. A student who already knows the content gains more from six sessions here than from twenty in February.

The investigation needs a different kind of hour. By DP2 autumn the data should exist, and what remains is processing, uncertainty, the conclusion and the evaluation - criteria B, C and D, eighteen of the available twenty-four marks. Those are the criteria students lose most on, usually because the evaluation reads as a list of apologies rather than an assessment of how the method limited the conclusion. That can be coached without a tutor writing a word of it.

Jumeirah 1 households feel this term physically. Two school runs, a mock timetable, an application portal and an investigation draft inside twelve weeks is a scheduling problem before it is an academic one. The arrangement that survives is one protected hour a week at a fixed time, taught online so no journey is attached to it, with work set and marked in between. An ambitious three-hour week agreed in September is usually two hours by October and nothing by November.

04

The last ten weeks, counted backwards from the written papers

Ten weeks before the written papers, the available moves narrow and that is helpful rather than discouraging. Content cannot be rebuilt wholesale, so the question becomes which parts of chemistry repay late attention and which do not. The plan below allocates those weeks and, more importantly, names the evidence that each phase worked, because a revision plan without evidence is a wish list.

The first three weeks go to the topic triage set out in the next section. Two topics, chosen because they carry marks and respond to late work, are rebuilt properly. Everything else is consolidated rather than retaught. The temptation at this point is to cover everything lightly, and it reliably produces a student who recognises all of the course and can answer none of it under time pressure.

Weeks four to seven are the data booklet and Paper 1B. The booklet is provided in the examination, which means marks are available for using it quickly and are lost by students who have revised as though they had to memorise it. Knowing where the bond enthalpies are, which constants are given and what is deliberately absent is a skill that takes two sessions and is worth more than a third rewrite of organic mechanisms. Paper 1B's data questions are the component least drilled at school.

The last three weeks are full timed papers and cold repeats. Two complete papers under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme, with errors reported by cause rather than as a total. Then questions the student failed earlier in the block, returning unannounced, to prove a repair held. A student who has never finished a Paper 2 inside the time will not finish the real one, and ten weeks is more than enough to fix that specifically.

05

Which chemistry topics repay late work, and which do not

Not every chemistry topic responds equally to attention ten weeks out, and treating them as equal is how a final term gets wasted. Some topics are procedural: once the method is secure, the marks follow reliably and quickly. Others are conceptual networks that take months to build and cannot be assembled in a fortnight. A good late-stage plan is honest about which is which.

The procedural topics repay late work handsomely. Mole and concentration arithmetic is the clearest case: it is mechanical, it appears across both papers, and a student who tightens it gains marks in units they have not revisited. Enthalpy calculations with correct sign conventions are the same. So is titration arithmetic, pH calculation for strong acids and bases, and reading the data booklet fluently. None of these require new understanding, only reliable execution.

The conceptual topics are different. Bonding and structure as a predictive framework, equilibrium as dynamic reasoning rather than a recalled principle, and the Higher Level organic mechanisms taken as a connected system all take sustained time. Ten weeks out, the right move with these is consolidation: secure what is already partly there, practise the question types that recur, and accept that a student who has never understood why an equilibrium shifts will not come to understand it in week nine.

The triage is not a counsel of despair. It is what lets a student arrive at the paper with two topics genuinely repaired rather than ten topics lightly revisited. A marked mock is the input: the topics where the student lost the most marks and which sit in the procedural column become the two priorities, and everything else is consolidated. That decision takes one session and shapes the other nineteen.

The UAE school calendar against a chemistry revision plan

A revision plan that ignores the local calendar fails in contact with it. The Dubai academic year carries a winter break in December, a spring break, National Day at the start of December, and Ramadan, during which school days are shortened across the emirate. A ten-week block placed without reference to those is a six-week block with four weeks of optimism attached.

Ramadan is the one that most changes the shape of a week. School hours shorten, families eat late, and the useful study window moves. A session that worked at 17:00 in January often works better after Iftar in Ramadan, and a student who tries to hold the old slot generally ends up tired rather than ahead. The honest planning move is to shift the slot deliberately and keep the frequency, rather than pausing and hoping to catch up afterwards.

The breaks cut both ways. A December or spring break with no homework competing for the evening is the best available window for covering ground, and three or four sessions inside one week of a break achieve more than three weeks of term-time hours. But a break is also when Jumeirah families travel, often across time zones, and a plan that assumes availability it does not have simply loses those sessions. Agreeing in advance which weeks are working weeks is a five-minute conversation with real value.

The mandatory UAE subjects also sit inside the week and are frequently left out of parents' mental arithmetic. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA requirements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided weekly totals are met, and advises that no mandatory subject lesson should be shorter than 25 minutes. Those hours are real timetable hours, and they are part of why a Diploma week is fuller than the six subjects suggest.

07

What chemistry support costs across two Diploma years, not one term

Begin at the top of the Dubai market, because that is the band families reach for in a panic and it is worth knowing what it does and does not buy. Premium named or examiner-led tutors are advertised at AED 500 to 650 an hour and above. At that rate, ten final-term sessions is a five-figure commitment in dirhams, and what it buys is late-stage technique from someone very experienced. What it cannot buy is the DP1 foundation that should already be there.

Below that, the IB and IGCSE specialist band runs at roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with monthly estimates for exam-year specialist support around AED 1,000 to 2,000 and more on two sessions a week. A qualified subject teacher working online is quoted at about AED 150 to 300 an hour, roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on one weekly session. Budget online tutoring, usually university students, is advertised from about AED 45 to 150. All of these are published market figures read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

Spread across two years the arithmetic changes shape. One weekly hour with a qualified subject teacher across both Diploma years, at the middle of that band, is a steady monthly figure rather than a crisis payment, and it covers the DP1 foundation, the investigation planning and the final block. Families who buy nothing in DP1 and then buy premium hours in DP2 spring commonly spend more in total for a worse result, because they are paying the highest rate in the market for the work that was cheapest to do early.

Context helps. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, with monthly in-home packages advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions, and the gap above the online band is travel rather than teaching. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; they are a service we offer only in India, and chemistry here is taught online with a free trial lesson first and nothing payable before it.

The investigation deadline is set by the school, not by the IB

The scientific investigation is worth 20 per cent of the Diploma Chemistry grade, is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each, and has a report length capped at 3,000 words. Those are the IB's parameters. The dates are not: the school sets the internal deadlines for the plan, the draft and the final submission, because the department must mark and moderate before anything is uploaded. Those dates are in the Diploma handbook, and they are the ones a family should write into a calendar in September.

The supervisor is the student's own chemistry teacher, who provides subject guidance and authenticates that the work is the student's own. That authentication is the reason the boundary around a tutor's help is firm rather than a matter of taste. A tutor may narrow a research question until the school's apparatus can actually answer it, point out that a chosen variable is not controllable, plan the number of repeats needed to justify an uncertainty, explain what each criterion rewards, and read a draft to ask which claim the data does not support.

A tutor may not supply the research question as a finished thing, process the data, write or rewrite any section, or correct a draft repeatedly until it is right. The student makes every change. This is not caution for its own sake: the research behind these pages found a site in this market selling completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, which is a route to a candidate losing their diploma rather than a cheaper form of tutoring.

Where students actually lose investigation marks is predictable and coachable. Criterion A goes when the research question is too broad to answer with the apparatus available. Criterion B goes when uncertainties are not propagated or error bars are absent. Criterion C goes when the conclusion claims more than the data supports, or does not compare the result with an accepted value. Criterion D goes when the evaluation lists apologies instead of explaining how a specific methodological limitation affected the specific conclusion. All four can be improved without a tutor writing a sentence.

Retakes, remarks and the November option, in the right order

Results day produces three decisions and they have to be taken in order. The first is whether any single component looks anomalous against everything else the student has produced. A chemistry grade two below every mock and every internal assessment is the case where a remark is worth considering, and the request goes through the school within the review window the IB sets. A grade consistent with the student's mocks is almost never changed by a remark, and paying for one is usually buying disappointment.

The second decision is whether a retake makes sense. The IB runs a November session as well as a May one, and candidates do retake in a later session. A retake is a reasonable choice when the student has a specific, diagnosable failure - one component, one term of missed teaching, an illness during the paper - and poor value when the grade reflects two years of partial understanding, because the same six months will produce the same result without a changed plan.

The third decision is about the offer. University offers made on predicted grades have conditions, and those conditions are negotiated with the institution rather than with the IB. Some will accept a November retake; some will defer entry; some will not. That conversation belongs with the school's university counsellor in the first week after results, not a month later, and it determines whether a retake is useful at all.

No specific IB session or results date appears on this page, deliberately. Those dates should be taken from the school's Diploma coordinator or from the IB directly, and confirmed rather than assumed, because a retake entry missed by a week cannot be recovered. What a tutor can do is start a retake plan from a marked script rather than from the grade, because the component that failed is the one the next six months should be built around.

Where we tutor

Jumeirah and the coast: where these Diploma students live

These districts share schools, buses and evening traffic with Jumeirah 1. Each note is about scheduling and school route rather than scenery, because the two things that decide whether chemistry support works over two years are the slot and the school's own deadline calendar.

Jumeirah 1

Jumeirah Baccalaureate School sits inside the district and runs the full Diploma, so a minority of chemistry students here have a short commute. Most travel to Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha and are home between 15:45 and 16:45.

Jumeirah 2

No Diploma provision inside the district, so every DP chemistry student commutes. Households often run a second bus for a younger sibling, which is why one immovable 18:30 hour outperforms two negotiable earlier ones.

Jumeirah 3

Nearest to the Umm Suqeim cluster and the shortest school run on the strip. A 17:00 chemistry session is realistic through term time, with sports squads the usual competitor for that hour.

Umm Suqeim

Raffles World Academy and the Kings' schools draw from the whole Jumeirah corridor. The continuum schools here send students into Diploma Chemistry from MYP Sciences, so the mole gap is the standard opening problem.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

Jumeirah College and Horizon English School sit here, both British-curriculum, so chemistry arrives as IGCSE 0620 and continues to A Level. Students who switch to the Diploma have usually changed school in the same year.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Dubai International Academy, Dubai American Academy and the Al Sufouh campuses carry most of the Diploma Chemistry places reachable from Jumeirah. Sheikh Zayed Road pushes arrival home past 16:30 on most weekdays.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Coastal developments with no secondary school inside them, so the whole cohort commutes twice daily. Removing a third journey in the evening is most of what online delivery is worth to a family here.

Al Manara and City Walk

Inland of the strip and feeding the same campuses. Families from these roads tend to appear in DP2 after a January mock, when the investigation is already submitted and only the written papers remain to be moved.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the handbook dates and a marked script

Two things make the first session useful: the school's published internal deadlines for the investigation and the Extended Essay, and a photograph of the last marked chemistry paper. One tells us which clock is closest, the other tells us whether the losses are content, technique or arithmetic. A grade alone tells us neither.

  2. 02

A short call to identify the binding deadline

Twenty minutes to establish the level, the school, the next deadline on the handbook and whether a university application is in play. The output is a decision about what the next six sessions are for, written as a sentence a parent can repeat, rather than a general plan to improve at chemistry.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on the student's own question

One lesson, nothing payable, no card details, built around a question the student has already lost marks on. It shows whether the tutor knows the current guide and whether the hour works for the student. If either answer is no, a different tutor is proposed rather than the same one defended.

  4. 04

A plan dated against the school's calendar

A short written plan that uses the school's own deadline dates rather than generic ones: which topics are being rebuilt, where the investigation work sits, when the two review papers happen and which week the full timed papers fall in. Short enough to be checked in four weeks instead of reinterpreted.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions with marking in between

A fixed weekly hour on Gulf Standard Time, with work set at the end of each session and marked before the next. The marking is where the plan corrects itself, because errors get classified by cause. Sessions with nothing between them deliver roughly a third of the gain for the same fee.

  6. 06

A review at the end of each term

At each school assessment point the plan is tested against the result. If the triaged topics have moved, the next priorities are chosen. If they have not, the diagnosis was wrong and it changes, rather than the student being asked for more effort against the same plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We plan against your school's dates

The deadlines that bind a Diploma Chemistry student are set by the school's coordinator, not by a generic calendar, and they are published in the handbook. Sessions are planned from those dates and from the university application window, because those are the clocks that decide the grade that reaches an admissions office.

DP1 is the cheap year

Mole arithmetic, sign conventions and justification style are inexpensive to install in DP1 autumn and expensive to repair in DP2 spring. Families who buy nothing in the first year and premium hours in the second commonly spend more in total for a worse result, which is worth saying before anything is booked.

Topic triage instead of covering everything

Ten weeks out, some chemistry repays late work and some does not. Procedural topics - moles, enthalpy, titration, data booklet fluency - are rebuilt. Conceptual networks are consolidated. Two topics genuinely repaired beats ten lightly revisited, and the marked mock decides which two.

A hard boundary on the investigation

A tutor narrows a research question, plans repeats, explains criteria and asks questions about a draft. A tutor does not process data, write sections or correct a draft until it is right. The boundary is stated before booking because the school supervisor authenticates the work and the candidate carries the risk.

No IB dates we cannot verify

Cambridge and Pearson dates on this site are taken from the boards' own published pages. IB session and results dates are not published here, because they could not be verified against the IB directly. The Diploma coordinator holds the official timetable and is the right source for them.

Clear about what IB Gram is not

An independent tutor-matching platform with no accreditation from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education, no UAE office, no school partnerships, and no in-home service anywhere in the UAE. All of that is checkable, which is why it is written down.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 1: your questions answered

Which chemistry units should be secure by the end of DP1?+

By the end of the first Diploma year a student should be able to use the mole as a tool rather than recall it as a topic, predict shape and polarity from structure instead of remembering examples, apply enthalpy sign conventions consistently, and reason about an unfamiliar equilibrium rather than quoting Le Chatelier's principle. Functional-group recognition should be becoming automatic. The investigation should have a research question and ideally its data. A student entering the second year without mole fluency is carrying a gap that every subsequent unit will widen, which is why the first term of DP1 is the cheapest place in the whole course to intervene.

What falls due in DP2 autumn, and in what order?+

Three things collide in one term. The autumn mock, which is the main evidence for the predicted grade. The investigation's final internal deadline, set by the school rather than the IB, because the department needs time to mark and moderate. And the university application, submitted on the strength of that prediction. The order matters: the prediction is produced from the mock, the application carries the prediction, and the investigation competes for the same weeks. Support in this term is best spent on assessment technique and on the processing, conclusion and evaluation criteria of the investigation, rather than on new content.

Which chemistry topics are worth working on ten weeks out?+

The procedural ones, because they convert into marks quickly and reliably. Mole and concentration arithmetic first, since it appears across both papers and tightening it gains marks in units that are not being revised. Enthalpy calculations with correct signs. Titration arithmetic and pH for strong acids and bases. And fluency with the data booklet, which is provided in the examination, so marks go to the student who can find a bond enthalpy without searching mid-question. None of these require new understanding, only reliable execution, which is exactly what ten weeks can deliver.

Which chemistry topics are not worth starting late?+

The conceptual networks. Bonding and structure used as a predictive framework, equilibrium understood as dynamic rather than recalled as a principle, and Higher Level organic mechanisms taken as a connected system all take months to build. Ten weeks out the sensible move with these is consolidation: secure what is partly there, practise the recurring question shapes, and accept that a student who has never grasped why an equilibrium shifts will not grasp it in week nine. Spreading the final block thinly across everything produces a student who recognises the whole course and can answer none of it under time pressure.

Who sets my child's investigation deadline?+

The school. The IB sets the parameters - 20 per cent of the grade, 24 marks across four criteria, a 3,000-word cap on the report - but the dates for the plan, the draft and the final submission are set by the school's Diploma coordinator and the chemistry department, because they have to mark and moderate before anything is uploaded. Those dates appear in the Diploma handbook and in Dubai schools commonly fall in DP1 spring or DP2 early autumn. Writing them into a family calendar in September removes most of the emergencies this part of the course generates.

How long does the chemistry investigation take, start to finish?+

Plan for a term rather than a fortnight. Narrowing a research question until the school's apparatus can answer it usually takes two or three attempts. Trialling the method reveals that the first version does not produce a measurable change, which is normal and is why trials exist. Data collection needs enough repeats to justify an uncertainty. Then processing, graphing with error bars, the conclusion and the evaluation. Compressed into three weeks, the criteria that suffer are A and D - research design and evaluation - which together carry twelve of the twenty-four marks.

Does the Dubai school calendar leave usable revision weeks?+

Fewer than a ten-week plan assumes, which is why the plan should be built against the actual calendar. The year carries National Day at the start of December, a winter break, a spring break, and Ramadan with shortened school days across the emirate. Breaks are genuinely valuable for covering ground, because nothing competes for the evening, but they are also when Jumeirah families travel. Agreeing in advance which weeks are working weeks converts an optimistic ten-week block into a real six or seven-week one, which is a better basis for deciding what can be achieved.

What should a chemistry revision plan do about Ramadan?+

Move the slot and keep the frequency, rather than pausing. School days shorten across Dubai, meals are late, and the productive study window shifts, so a session that worked at 17:00 in January often works better after Iftar. Students who try to hold the old slot generally end up tired rather than ahead. Because lessons are online there is no travel attached to a late session, which makes the shift practical. Pausing for the month and planning to catch up afterwards tends to cost four weeks that the final block then has to absorb, usually at the expense of full timed papers.

What does two years of chemistry support cost, rather than one term?+

One weekly hour with a qualified subject teacher online is quoted in Dubai at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, which is about AED 600 to 1,200 a month, sustained across both Diploma years. An exam-year specialist at two sessions a week is estimated at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above monthly. Premium named tutors are advertised at AED 500 to 650 and above per hour. Families who buy nothing in DP1 and then premium hours in DP2 often spend more in total for a worse outcome, because they are paying the top of the market for work that was cheapest to do early. These are published market bands read in October 2026.

Is a premium examiner-led rate worth it in the final term?+

Sometimes, for a specific job. At AED 500 to 650 an hour and above, what a very experienced teacher brings is late-stage technique: how an extended response should be structured, which answer shapes the scheme credits, how to allocate time across a paper. That is real value for a student whose content is already secure. It is poor value for a student with a mole gap, because the highest rate in the market is being spent on the work a DP1 session would have done. Also treat examiner descriptions carefully: current examiner status is a specific claim and should be evidenced rather than assumed.

Can my child retake chemistry in a later session?+

Yes. The IB runs a November session as well as a May one, and candidates do retake in a later session through their school. Whether it is worth doing depends on the diagnosis. A retake makes sense where the failure is specific and identifiable - one component, a term of missed teaching, illness during the paper. It is poor value where the grade reflects two years of partial understanding, because the same six months will produce the same result unless the plan changes. The first conversation after results should be with the school's university counsellor, because some offers accept a November retake and some do not.

When is a remark worth requesting?+

When a single component is clearly out of line with everything else the student produced. A chemistry grade two below every mock, every internal assessment and the teacher's own expectation is the case worth reviewing, and the request goes through the school inside the review window. A grade consistent with the student's mock performance is very rarely changed, and requesting a remark then is usually buying a delay and a disappointment. The school's Diploma coordinator can say what the review options and deadlines are for that session, and those dates should be confirmed rather than assumed.

Does a tutor come to our home in Jumeirah 1 for chemistry?+

No. IB Gram does not sell in-home tuition anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. Diploma Chemistry for a Jumeirah 1 family is taught online, one-to-one, over live video, with the question, the data booklet and a shared whiteboard all on screen. Mechanisms are drawn and redrawn without anyone recopying the question, and the session can be rewatched the night before a mock. The Dubai in-home market exists and is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, with the premium above online rates reflecting travel rather than teaching, which is a useful comparison when weighing the two.

What time can a chemistry session start on a Jumeirah 1 school night?+

Most Diploma students living in Jumeirah 1 travel to Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh or Al Barsha and reach home between 15:45 and 16:45, later when the beach road or Sheikh Zayed Road is slow. That makes 16:00 unrealistic, 17:00 workable on most days, and 18:30 dependable including late buses and a sibling's pick-up. Since lessons are online there is no journey attached, so the booked hour is the taught hour. Across a two-year course the slot that holds every week is worth considerably more than the slot that looks ideal in September.

Which Jumeirah 1 schools run Diploma Chemistry?+

Jumeirah Baccalaureate School runs the full IB continuum inside the district itself. Beyond that, a Jumeirah 1 family's realistic options are Raffles World Academy and Emirates International School in the Umm Suqeim and Umm Al Sheif cluster, and Dubai International Academy, Dubai American Academy and the other Al Barsha campuses inland. The International Baccalaureate accounts for about 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment, against 37 per cent for UK curriculum, so Diploma Chemistry is taught in a limited set of schools here. Which campus a student attends changes the opening weeks of tutoring more than their ability does.

How do I verify a tutor holds the UAE private tuition permit?+

Ask directly, and ask to see it. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation smart app, website or e-services, under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because it is free and quick, there is no good reason for a UAE-based tutor not to hold one. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no schedule of amounts has been published, so treat any page quoting a figure with caution.

Send the handbook dates, and we will work backwards from them

If your child is taking Diploma Chemistry from a Jumeirah 1 address, the most useful first step is to send the school's published internal deadlines alongside the last marked chemistry paper. From those two documents it is possible to say which of the three clocks is closest, whether the losses are content or technique, and which two topics in the triage are worth the next ten weeks. Take the free trial lesson on one of your child's own questions, with nothing payable and no card details, and a short plan dated against the school's own calendar comes back before anything is booked. Lessons run online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.
