IB Home Tutor in Jumeirah 1

Families searching for an IB home tutor in Jumeirah 1 are comparing a known option against an unknown one. The known option is somebody who drives to a villa off Jumeirah Beach Road; the unknown is everything else. This page prices the local in-home market from published figures, explains which categories of person may legally charge for private lessons in Dubai, and makes the case for live one-to-one video instead. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 1

The in-home option, priced honestly, and then the alternative

Jumeirah 1 is one of the older coastal districts of Dubai, running inland from Jumeirah Beach Road through Al Bada'a and Al Hudaiba, with Pearl Jumeira and La Mer on the reclaimed waterfront and City Walk just behind. It is largely villas and low-rise apartments, which is why families here search for an IB home tutor rather than for a tuition centre: the house is the obvious place for a lesson, and a tutor arriving at the gate is the model most parents grew up with.

So this page starts by taking that option seriously rather than dismissing it. In-home one-to-one tutoring across Dubai is quoted in published rate tables at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor working online. The gap between those two bands is not a quality gap. It is a car. Somebody is driving along Jumeirah Beach Road at 16:30, parking, teaching for sixty minutes and driving back, and the price of that journey is inside your invoice whether it is itemised or not.

What the journey buys is real and worth naming: a familiar room, no technology to fail, a parent who can hear the session from the next room, and a younger child who settles faster with a person present. What it costs is also real. It limits the tutor pool to people willing to make that drive at that hour, which for a Diploma student means the pool is selected for geography rather than for whether anybody in it has taught Chemistry at Higher Level or supervised a History Internal Assessment. That is a poor way to pick a specialist.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, and no sentence on this site will promise a tutor at a UAE address. Home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For UAE families, lessons are one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard, the student's own work on screen and written feedback between sessions. That is a deliberate trade rather than a limitation we are dressing up, and the rest of this page sets out the arithmetic behind it.

The other half of the page is a comparison, because that is the decision a Jumeirah 1 family is actually making. It compares this district with Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Al Safa, Al Wasl, Umm Suqeim and Pearl Jumeira on the things that genuinely differ, shows why the answer converges anyway, lists the permit categories so you can check any tutor who offers to visit, and sets the provider models side by side on price, replacement policy and what happens when a match does not work.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IB household in Jumeirah 1 may be anywhere in the continuum, and the programme decides what in-home versus online actually changes. These are the programmes families here ask about, with what each one demands of a tutor.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Assessment is mostly timed external examinations with internal assessments marked against subject-specific criteria. This is the programme where the tutor pool question bites hardest, because a Higher Level specialist in a particular subject is a narrow requirement and a driving radius is a blunt filter.

No UAE Ministry of Education equivalency points figure for the IB Diploma is published that this page can cite, so none appears here. The Ministry's British-track rule is sourced and different: five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at grade E or grade 3 or better, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Check any IB figure on the Ministry's own site.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked one to eight, with a Personal Project in the final year. Support here is usually short and targeted at a criterion rather than weekly and open-ended, which makes the economics of a home visit worse: four sessions of criterion work does not justify setting up a standing drive across the district.

Most MYP provision reachable from Jumeirah 1 sits in Al Safa, Umm Al Sheif and the Al Barsha campuses rather than inside the district itself. That is a fifteen to thirty-five minute afternoon run depending on which road is used, and it is why families here are often comparing a tutor who drives to them with one their child could have reached anyway.

PYPAges 3-12 · PYP

IB Primary Years Programme

The inquiry-led primary programme, reported descriptively rather than by level. This is the one group where a person in the room has a genuine developmental advantage, and we say so: a seven-year-old is not well served by an hour of video. Our UAE delivery is online across the board, so for the youngest learners a local arrangement may simply suit you better.

Several Dubai continuum schools run PYP on a separate campus from their secondary provision, so a Jumeirah 1 family can have two children in the same school group with two different commutes. That changes the practical shape of an afternoon more than most tutoring pages acknowledge.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE inside IB households

Common in Jumeirah 1, where British-curriculum and IB schools sit within a few kilometres of each other and siblings are often split between them. A household can be comparing tutors for a Diploma student and an IGCSE student at once, and a single visiting tutor for both is a logistics saving rather than a teaching one.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. If one child is on Cambridge papers, ask the exams officer for the zone, the syllabus codes and the tier.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subject is where the in-home versus online argument is settled, because Diploma subjects at Higher Level are narrow requirements. These are the courses Jumeirah 1 families ask for most, with what each one needs from a tutor.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic route, with proof, calculus and a heavy non-calculator component at Standard Level. Higher Level adds a third paper and real depth. Marks are lost to unjustified steps and to exploration write-ups that describe a method rather than developing mathematics. A tutor who has taught the Higher Level version is a genuinely scarce requirement.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling and statistics route, with the graphic display calculator used throughout. Students choose it expecting an easier course and meet statistical reasoning that punishes imprecision. Higher Level is demanding in its own direction, and some UAE and overseas engineering courses still expect Analysis and Approaches, so the route choice deserves checking early.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The classic Higher Level bottleneck for medicine and engineering applicants. Organic mechanisms, energetics, equilibrium and the data-based questions carry most of the lost marks, and the scientific investigation needs supervision rather than production. One teacher covering Higher Level Chemistry in a small school year is the commonest reason families here look outside the school.

Physics

HL and SL

Formula discipline, graph interpretation and the willingness to write units. Higher Level adds depth in fields, induction and quantum physics. Students who reached the Diploma on fluent arithmetic but weak algebra find Physics the subject where that shows first, usually in the second term of DP1 rather than at the end.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume plus precision. The content load is large and the marks turn on command terms: outline, explain, distinguish and evaluate all want different things. Higher Level adds substantial additional topics. Extended response questions reward structured, linked reasoning rather than a list of recalled facts in any order.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation. Most lost marks come from diagrams drawn without labelled axes or shifted curves, and from evaluation that asserts rather than weighs. The internal assessment commentaries are a structured task where the mark scheme is explicit, which makes them highly coachable without any line being crossed.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 unseen analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral and the Higher Level essay. The individual oral is the component students in Dubai most often underprepare, because it is spoken and therefore feels less formal. It is marked against criteria like everything else and rewards rehearsed structure.

Arabic and modern languages

Group 1 and Group 2

Arabic appears in Jumeirah 1 households both as a Diploma language and as a KHDA-mandated school subject, and the two are not the same job. Mandatory Arabic follows prescribed Ministry content, while Diploma Arabic follows the IB's own course. A tutor needs to know which one the family is asking about before quoting anything.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A short exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, both marked against criteria and both unlike anything students have written before. Support here is conceptual coaching and feedback on drafts the student has written. It is also one of the components most often outsourced, which makes stating the boundary worth the sentence.

Extended Essay supervision support

Core

Four thousand words of independent research alongside six subjects. Almost all the avoidable damage happens in the first month, when the research question is set too broadly. A tutor narrows the question, holds the timeline and gives feedback on written drafts. The school supervisor remains the formal supervisor and no part of the essay is produced by anybody else.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Jumeirah 1 families buy IB support from us, all one-to-one over live video and all scheduled around a Beach Road afternoon rather than around a tutor's route.

Weekly one-to-one in one subject

A fixed weekly slot with the same tutor in a single Diploma subject, chosen because that subject is the one limiting the points total. School work and one past-paper question set are reviewed each week, with written work marked between sessions. Most Jumeirah 1 families start here, in the subject the student is most worried about rather than the one with the lowest grade.

  • Same tutor, same slot, one subject at Higher or Standard Level
  • Written work annotated and returned before the next session
  • Slot set from the real arrival time, not the school bell
  • Reviewed after six weeks against a marked piece of work

Internal assessment and Extended Essay check-ins

A fortnightly session that exists to keep a long piece of work moving: narrowing the research question, holding the timeline, reading drafts the student has written and saying where the criteria are not yet evidenced. It is the cheapest support in the Diploma because it prevents the failure mode that costs most, which is an unworkable question discovered in February.

  • Fortnightly rather than weekly, matched to internal deadlines
  • Scope narrowed early, which is where most essays are rescued
  • Feedback on drafts the student has written, never produced text
  • The school supervisor remains the formal supervisor

Short pre-examination block

Six to eight weeks of focused work before the May session: diagnostics and the weakest topics first, then timed questions by topic, then whole papers under examination conditions with marking in between. It ends on a date rather than running indefinitely, which makes it straightforward to budget and easy to judge afterwards.

  • Defined start and finish, usually eight weeks
  • Timed papers marked against the published criteria
  • Two sessions a week for two marking cycles
  • Shifts later during Ramadan rather than pausing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 1

01

What the phrase IB home tutor in Jumeirah 1 actually returns

  • Agencies, individual listings and online platforms all rank for this phrase
  • IB Gram is online only in the UAE and states it rather than burying it
  • Ask who specifically teaches, what they have taught at this level, and what happens if it fails
  • The two models fail in different ways, so the questions differ

Type it into a search box and you get three kinds of result. Agencies that will arrange a visit and quote on enquiry. Classified listings from individuals, some of whom name a rate. And platforms that advertise online tuition against the same phrase because they know what parents type. The first two are genuinely offering a tutor who drives to a villa in this district. The third is answering a different question and often not admitting it.

This page is in the third category and says so in the first paragraph. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. We target this phrase because it is the phrase parents use, and the useful thing we can do with it is tell you what the in-home market actually costs, who in it is permitted to charge, and what you would and would not gain by choosing it.

The reason the distinction matters is that the two models fail differently. An in-home arrangement fails when the tutor's schedule changes, when a drive becomes impractical, or when the person who was available turns out not to know the Higher Level course. An online arrangement fails when the technology is treated as the lesson, when nobody marks the written work, or when a provider matches a student to a generalist and calls it a specialist. Knowing which failure you are exposed to lets you ask the right questions up front.

So the question to put to any provider, in either model, is narrow: who specifically will teach my child, what have they taught before at this exact level, and what happens if it is not working after two sessions. A provider who answers those three clearly is worth considering whichever way the lesson is delivered. A provider who answers with a promise about outcomes is telling you something else.

02

Jumeirah 1 against the next district over

Families here compare districts constantly, usually because somebody at the school gate in Jumeirah 3 has a tutor who drives and somebody in Al Safa does not. The comparison is worth making properly, because some of it is real and some of it is noise. What is real is the school mix, the road you use in the afternoon and the depth of the local teacher population. What is noise is the idea that published tutoring rates vary by Dubai postcode. They do not.

The table below compares the districts in that conversation on the things that actually differ. Read the last column carefully, because it is where the comparison resolves. In every district the local in-home pool is selected by who will drive there at 16:30, and in every district the requirement for a Diploma student is a specific subject at a specific level. Those two facts do not meet, and they fail to meet in the same way in Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 3, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim alike.

There is one genuine district difference worth knowing. Districts with more schools inside them have slightly deeper local teacher populations, because teachers tend to live near where they work. Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3 hold more schools than Jumeirah 1, so an in-home search there returns more names. That makes the in-home option more available, not more specialised: more names from the same selection criterion is still a selection by distance.

The practical consequence is that a family moving within this strip, from Jumeirah 1 to Umm Suqeim or out to Pearl Jumeira, should not have to change tutor at all. If a move breaks the tutoring arrangement, the arrangement was built on geography. That is the clearest single test of whether a tutoring decision was made on the right basis, and it is worth applying before you commit rather than after you move.

The travel premium, and what the gap between the bands buys

Put the two bands next to each other and the premium is the whole story. In-home one-to-one tutoring across Dubai is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table giving AED 180 to 350 and individual home tutor listings reaching AED 200 to 500, all read in October 2026. A qualified subject tutor working online is published in a band of AED 150 to 300. At the specialist end the online figure rises to AED 200 to 450 and above, with a UK agency operating in the Gulf publishing AED 270 and a named-tutor service publishing AED 650.

Strip the overlap away and the in-home premium for comparable teaching is roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour. That is a car on Jumeirah Beach Road at 16:30, a parking space, and the twenty to forty minutes a tutor cannot sell to anybody else. It is a fair charge for a real cost. What it is not is a payment for better teaching, more marking or a scarcer specialism, and it is sometimes a payment for less of all three, because the pool it draws from was filtered by distance first.

The monthly view makes the decision concrete. Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 for budget support, AED 600 to 1,200 for mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Market packages seen in October 2026 include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Note what that second package is: eight hours a month for roughly twice the price of eight shorter online sessions.

None of these figures is an IB Gram price and this page publishes none; the free trial lesson and the consultation are where our own fees are discussed. Two context points are worth having in mind while you decide. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package. And budget online tutoring advertised from AED 33 to 65 an hour exists for a reason: it is a different product, usually homework supervision rather than Higher Level subject teaching, and buying it for a DP2 student in February is the commonest false economy in this market.

Who is actually permitted to charge for private lessons in Dubai

If somebody is going to teach your child, in a villa or anywhere else, it is reasonable to know whether they may legally be paid for it. The UAE answer is specific. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligibility is broader than most parents expect and that is the useful part. Teachers registered in government or private schools may hold the permit. So may employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone providing private tutoring without the permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure appears on this page, and a site quoting a specific amount is quoting something that could not be verified.

Two conditions matter for a Jumeirah 1 family in particular. The permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school. So the arrangement some parents quietly want, your child's own teacher privately in the evening, is the one arrangement the rules are written to prevent. Treat that as press-reported for Abu Dhabi and verify the current ADEK document before relying on the exact wording.

The other condition concerns organisations rather than individuals. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is why no individual is KHDA approved, and why the phrase KHDA-approved tutor should make you ask for a document number. IB Gram holds no such permit, because it operates no premises in the UAE.

What actually happens in a home session, and what it means online

  • Home sessions carry household interruption; online sessions carry passive attendance
  • Marking at both ends of a session is what prevents passive attendance
  • Open door and another adult at home; shared device and logged sessions online
  • Expect a stated purpose for every field on any form asking about your child

The practical texture of a home visit is rarely discussed and it shapes the decision. A tutor arrives at a villa in Jumeirah 1, usually between 16:00 and 18:00. The session happens at a dining table, in a study or in a majlis, with the household audible around it. Younger siblings pass through. Food is offered. A parent is somewhere nearby, intentionally or not. For a primary-aged child all of that is helpful. For a sixteen-year-old working on a Chemistry Higher Level data question, most of it is interruption.

Online sessions have the opposite texture and their own failure modes. The student sits with a laptop, a headset and the work on screen. There is no social overhead and no arrival time, which is why sessions start when they say they will. What goes wrong is less dramatic and more insidious: a camera off, a student half-present, a tutor talking while nobody writes. The fix is structural rather than technological, and it is marking. A session that begins with last week's corrected work and ends with a question set for next week cannot be passively attended.

Safeguarding is worth saying out loud because almost nobody in this market does. For a session in a home with a visiting adult, the sensible arrangement is a room with the door open and another adult in the house, and a parent should feel free to insist on that without apology. For online sessions, the equivalents are a shared household device in a shared room, sessions that are logged, and no private side channels between tutor and student. Any provider should be able to tell you its position on all three in one email.

Data is the other quiet issue. Lead forms on tutoring sites collect information about minors, often including the school, the year group, recent grades and sometimes a photograph. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection sits behind this, and the practical standard a parent should expect is simple: a stated purpose for every field, a privacy link on every page and a way to ask for the record to be deleted. If a form asks for your child's school and grades without saying why, that is a reasonable thing to refuse.

06

Why the answer does not change street by street

  • The requirement is a subject at a level, not a tutor in general
  • A narrow requirement rarely fits inside any driving radius, in any district
  • Online changes the size of the pool, not the price of the hour
  • For young children and for supervision, a person in the room is genuinely better

Here is the part of the comparison that resolves it. A Diploma student does not need a tutor. They need a tutor in Chemistry at Higher Level, or in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or in History with a particular prescribed subject. Those are narrow requirements, and the narrower the requirement the less likely it is to be satisfied inside a driving radius, whichever district the radius is drawn around.

Work the arithmetic through. A school year group of ninety Diploma students might contain twelve taking Higher Level Chemistry, taught by one or two teachers. In the surrounding district, the number of people who have taught that course, are free at 17:00, and are willing to drive to a villa in Jumeirah 1 is a small number and sometimes zero. It is also a small number in Jumeirah 3, in Al Safa and in Umm Suqeim, because the constraint is the subject rather than the street.

Online delivery changes the constraint rather than the price. The pool becomes everybody who teaches that course and can work in a Gulf Standard Time evening slot, which is a different order of magnitude. That is the whole argument, and it is strongest exactly where families are most worried: the scarce Higher Level subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay in an unusual discipline, and the subject a small school year covers thinly.

It is weakest, honestly, at the other end. For a seven-year-old needing reading support, a person in the room is better and we do not pretend otherwise; our UAE delivery is online across the board, so a local arrangement may genuinely suit you better there. For a student who needs supervision rather than teaching, a visiting tutor at the kitchen table is a reasonable product. Those are the cases where the in-home market deserves the sale, and saying so is more useful to you than claiming online is better at everything.

07

Comparing provider models on the things that go wrong

Price comparisons dominate this market and they are the least useful comparison available, because the published rates overlap heavily. What differs between provider models is what happens when something goes wrong: the tutor leaves, the match is poor, a session is cancelled, the student's subject changes, or the promised specialist turns out to be a generalist. Those are the events that decide whether a year of tutoring was worth the money.

The table below compares the models rather than named brands, which is deliberate. Comparing against named competitors on quality or legality is neither fair nor useful, and competitor rates are quoted here only where they are published, with the month they were read. What the comparison shows is that the models differ most on replacement, verification and transparency rather than on hourly price.

Two columns deserve attention. Replacement policy is the one most families never ask about and most need: if the tutor becomes unavailable in February of DP2, what happens? And rate transparency is a genuine signal. In a researched set of competitor pages for these queries, three of six published no price at all, one published a schema price that contradicted its own visible text, and two quoted US dollars to UAE families. A provider that will not put a number anywhere is making a choice.

The last row is us, described without decoration. Online only in the UAE, one free trial lesson in one subject before any paid block, a stated replacement route if the match is wrong, no published price list on this page and no in-home service anywhere in the Emirates. You can weigh that against the rows above it with the figures from the previous section in hand.

Where the Diploma hours actually go, and the honesty line

  • Hours usually go to examination technique, internal assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge
  • Internal assessments are criterion-marked and therefore genuinely coachable
  • No part of assessed work is produced by a tutor, at any price
  • No IB session or results dates are published here; confirm with the coordinator

Families who buy IB tutoring by the subject often discover that the hours were needed somewhere else. The Diploma's load is not evenly distributed. Six subjects run in parallel with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, and the internal assessments across those six subjects cluster in the same months of DP2. A student who is fine in lessons and drowning in deadlines needs a different kind of support from one who cannot do the chemistry.

In practice the hours go to four places. Timed examination technique, because Diploma papers reward command-term precision and pace. The internal assessments, which are structured, criterion-marked and therefore highly coachable. The Extended Essay, where almost all the avoidable damage happens in the first month when the research question is set too wide. And Theory of Knowledge, which asks for a genre of writing nobody has previously required and which students often leave until it is urgent.

The honesty line in all four is the same and worth stating because some providers in this market cross it openly. A tutor may teach, set practice, mark written work, explain what a criterion rewards, narrow a research question and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any part of an internal assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay, and nobody at IB Gram will. One competitor in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price; that is an academic-honesty breach whose consequences fall on the student.

The same applies to materials. Official syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and subject guides belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, so this page cites and links them rather than hosting them. And IB examination and results dates are not stated anywhere on this page, because the IB's own site could not be verified by automated checking for this project. Confirm every IB date with your child's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org, and treat any page that states them confidently without a source with appropriate caution.

Regulators, equivalency and what a Jumeirah 1 parent should verify

Dubai families often assume the rules they know are national, and they are not. Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so the regulator's role varies by emirate as well as its name.

This matters to a Jumeirah 1 family mainly when they move, which in this city happens often. A family relocating to Abu Dhabi moves from KHDA's framework to ADEK's, with different inspection arrangements and different professional-ethics rules for school staff. The tutoring arrangement does not need to change, but the assumptions about what the school and its teachers may do does. Of the competitor pages researched for these queries, ADEK was named by none at all.

Equivalency is the other thing worth knowing before it is urgent. The Ministry of Education's published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from those five, plus proof of one accredited A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade. On the American track, English proficiency requires IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Maths. One ranking competitor states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong.

No IB Diploma points threshold for equivalency appears on this page, because none could be read on the Ministry's own pages, and publishing an unsourced figure across a set of pages this size would be a liability rather than a service. Equivalency is performed by the Ministry and the emirate's attestation authority, not by any tutoring provider, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. Verify your own case through the official channel before planning around anything you read on a tutoring website, including this one.

Jumeirah 1 and the districts it is usually compared with

Families in this part of Dubai compare their own district with the next one over, often because a neighbour has a tutor who drives. These are the districts in the comparison and what genuinely differs between them.

Jumeirah 1

Villas and low-rise apartments from Al Hudaiba and Al Bada'a along Jumeirah Beach Road. Close to the city and to the coastal school belt, with Beach Road itself the limiting factor on any afternoon arrival time.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Reclaimed waterfront addresses inside the wider district, newer and lower density. Access is through a small number of entry points, which adds minutes to an afternoon visit that a map does not show.

City Walk and Al Wasl

Apartment living immediately inland, with Horizon English School and the Al Wasl corridor nearby. Shorter door-to-car times than the villa streets, so short weekday sessions are more practical here.

Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3

The continuation of the same coastal strip south-west, with a denser cluster of schools including JESS Jumeirah and GEMS Jumeirah Primary. Tutor supply is slightly deeper here simply because more schools mean more teachers living nearby.

Al Safa and Al Manara

Where several of the Diploma and British-curriculum secondary schools that Jumeirah 1 families use actually sit, including Jumeirah College and Jumeira Baccalaureate School. Ten to twenty minutes from Jumeirah 1 outside peak times.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Further along the coast towards Kings' School Dubai and the Umm Suqeim schools. Families moving between Jumeirah 1 and Umm Suqeim often assume they need a new tutor, which is only true if the tutor was chosen for proximity.

Al Satwa and Al Hudaiba

The older inland edge of the district, closer to the city and to Sheikh Zayed Road. Useful for families whose children attend schools towards Oud Metha or Al Qusais, where the commute runs away from the coast.

Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina

The districts Jumeirah 1 families most often benchmark against on price. Published rate bands do not vary by Dubai district; the differences parents notice are differences between providers, not between postcodes.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah 1

Inside and immediately around Jumeirah 1

The district itself holds mostly primary and all-through provision rather than a dense cluster of Diploma schools, which is why secondary students here commute along the coast or inland. Confirm the current curriculum and programme offer with the school directly.

  • Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • Horizon English School
  • GEMS Jumeirah Primary School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School

The Al Safa and Al Wasl secondary belt

Ten to twenty minutes from Jumeirah 1 outside peak traffic, and where most of the district's Diploma and senior British-curriculum students actually study. School finish times here drive what any weekday tutoring slot can realistically be.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School
  • Safa British School
  • Raffles International School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah

The wider coastal and Al Barsha belt

Where the larger IB continuum campuses sit, twenty-five to forty minutes from the district depending on the road taken. Families on this run are the ones for whom a visiting tutor's travel time becomes a serious part of the price.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Kings' School Dubai

Named schools are context for families living in Jumeirah 1. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school named here, and curriculum and programme offers should be confirmed with the school or the relevant board.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level first

Not the school, not the postcode. Chemistry at Higher Level, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, History with its prescribed subject. That single line is what makes a shortlist possible, and it is the line most enquiries leave out in favour of a description of the problem.

  2. 02

Ask us who specifically will teach

You should know what your child's tutor has taught at that exact level before any money changes hands, and you should be able to ask about their permit status and get an answer in writing. A provider who will not answer either question is asking you to buy on trust alone.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One trial lesson, one subject, before any paid block is booked. It is a working session: a recent piece of marked work read against the criteria, the two highest-yield fixes named, and a plan for the first month. Then decide, including deciding against us.

  4. 04

Set the slot from the real arrival time

Jumeirah Beach Road in the afternoon is slower than the distance suggests, and a session that starts fifteen minutes late every week loses a session a term. Pick the slot from when your child is genuinely at the desk, which for most of this district means after 16:45 on a weekday.

  5. 05

    Mark, correct, re-test

Written work is annotated between sessions and the next lesson starts from the corrections. That cycle is what moves marks, and it is also what makes an online session impossible to attend passively. Two sessions a week means two cycles, which matters more in a run-up than two extra hours would.

  6. 06

Say so after two sessions if it is wrong

A tutor who suits one student will not suit another, and being polite about a poor match costs a term. Tell us after two sessions and we move your child, carrying the diagnostic notes across so the new tutor does not start again from the beginning.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The in-home market priced, not dismissed

This page publishes what visiting tutors in Dubai actually charge, with sources and the month the figures were read, and names what the travel premium buys. You can weigh the option properly instead of being told online is better and left to guess at the numbers.

Permit categories you can check yourself

The MoHRE private tuition permit, who may hold it, what it costs, how long it lasts and the conditions attached are all set out here. One competitor in this market touches licensing in a single heading. A parent should be able to verify the person teaching their child.

A subject at a level, not a tutor nearby

Higher Level Chemistry, Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay in an unusual discipline: these are narrow requirements. Online delivery is what lets the shortlist be built from the requirement rather than from a driving radius around Jumeirah 1.

Replacement stated before you need it

If the match is wrong, tell us after two sessions and we move your child with the notes carried over. Most families discover their provider's position on this in February of DP2, which is the worst possible moment to find out it does not have one.

Safeguarding and data positions in writing

Shared device, shared room, logged sessions, no private side channels, and a stated purpose for every field on any form that asks about your child. UAE data protection law sits behind that, and we will answer all of it in an email rather than in a brochure.

Plain about the limits

We run no office, centre or in-home service anywhere in the UAE, we publish no IB examination dates we cannot source, and we say when a person in the room would serve a young child better. Knowing the limits before you enquire is worth more than a friendly form.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 1: your questions answered

Is in-home IB tutoring in Jumeirah 1 cheaper or dearer than in Jumeirah 3?+

Published Dubai rate bands do not vary by district, and nothing in the figures read in October 2026 suggests a Jumeirah 1 address is priced differently from a Jumeirah 3 one. In-home one-to-one is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour across the city, with AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table and individual listings reaching AED 500. What does vary slightly is availability: districts with more schools inside them have more teachers living nearby, so a search in Jumeirah 2 or Jumeirah 3 returns more names than one in Jumeirah 1.

What is the travel premium on a home visit actually paying for?+

A journey. Set the in-home band of AED 180 to 500 an hour against the published online band of AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor and the premium for comparable teaching is roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour. That covers the drive along Beach Road, the parking, and the twenty to forty minutes the tutor cannot sell to anybody else. It is a fair charge for a real cost. It is not a payment for deeper subject knowledge, more marking or a scarcer specialism, and the pool it draws on was filtered by distance before anything else.

Which categories of person are legally allowed to tutor privately in Dubai?+

Anyone holding the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Providing private tutoring without the permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so be wary of any site quoting an amount.

How can I check that a tutor who comes to the house holds a valid permit?+

Ask them directly, and ask for the detail rather than the assurance: which permit, issued by whom, valid until when. The private tuition permit is a MoHRE document, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system, and it is free, so there is no cost reason for anybody not to hold one. Also ask whether your child attends the school where the tutor teaches, because the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and Abu Dhabi's ethics rules carry a similar bar for school staff.

Should an adult be in the room while a tutor works with my child?+

For a session in a home with a visiting adult, the sensible arrangement is an open door and another adult in the house, and you should feel entitled to insist on that without explaining yourself. For online sessions, the equivalent safeguards are a shared household device in a shared room, sessions that are logged, and no private side channels between tutor and student outside the platform. Any provider should be able to state its position on all three in one email, and a provider that treats the question as unusual has told you something useful.

What personal information about my child should a tutoring provider be collecting?+

Only what it can justify, with the purpose stated. Tutoring lead forms routinely ask for a child's school, year group, recent grades and sometimes a photograph, and UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection sits behind how that is handled. The standard to expect is a stated purpose for each field, a privacy link on every page and a route to ask for the record to be deleted. A form that asks for your child's school and grades without saying why is one you are entitled to refuse to complete.

Does a tuition centre group class work out better value than a home visit?+

For some purposes, yes. A group class at a centre spreads the cost and suits revision of common content, and centres publish their prices more often than agencies do. It is poor value for a narrow requirement, because a group moves at the pace of the group and a Higher Level student with one specific weakness gets no time on it. Note that a tutoring operation with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, so a centre is one of the few places where asking for a permit number is straightforward.

We are moving from Jumeirah 1 to Umm Suqeim. Do we need to find a new tutor?+

Only if the tutor was chosen for proximity, which is the point. A move of a few kilometres along the coast changes nothing about your child's subject, level or internal assessment deadlines, so a tutoring arrangement built on the requirement rather than on the driving distance survives it untouched. If a house move breaks the arrangement, the arrangement was built on geography. It is worth applying that test before committing rather than after the removal van arrives.

My child's school offers Chemistry Higher Level with one teacher. Is that a problem?+

It is the single most common reason Jumeirah 1 families look outside the school, and it is not a criticism of the teacher. A year group of ninety Diploma students might contain a dozen taking Higher Level Chemistry, which supports one or two teachers and no redundancy. If that teacher's style does not suit your child, or they are absent for a term, there is no internal alternative. An outside specialist is insurance against a structural single point of failure rather than a verdict on anybody's teaching.

Which Diploma components actually absorb tutoring hours?+

Four, and they are not evenly spread. Timed examination technique, because Diploma papers reward command-term precision and pace rather than knowledge alone. The internal assessments, which are criterion-marked and therefore genuinely coachable. The Extended Essay, where almost all avoidable damage happens in the first month when the research question is set too wide. And Theory of Knowledge, which demands a kind of writing nobody has previously required. A student who is fine in lessons and drowning in deadlines needs these rather than more subject teaching.

How do I compare an agency, a marketplace and a freelance tutor fairly?+

Not on price, because the published bands overlap heavily. Compare them on what happens when something goes wrong: who replaces the tutor if they become unavailable in February, what the position is if the match is poor after two sessions, how a cancelled session is treated, and whether the person who teaches is the person you were shown. Then compare rate transparency, which is a real signal. In a researched set of competitor pages for these queries, three of six published no price at all and two quoted US dollars to UAE families.

What happens if the tutor we are matched with is not right for my child?+

Say so after two sessions. A tutor who is excellent for one student is sometimes wrong for another, and being polite about a poor match is the most expensive thing a family can do, because it usually costs a term before anybody admits it. We move your child and carry the diagnostic notes across so the new tutor does not start from the beginning. Ask any provider for its position on this before you commit, because the moment you need it is rarely a calm one.

Who regulates private schools in each emirate, and why should a parent care?+

Dubai schools fall under KHDA, which oversees the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education covers Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah also approve fees, curricula and assessment methods. It matters when you move, because the rules on what school staff may do privately differ between emirates.

How many sessions a week does a Diploma student in Jumeirah 1 usually start with?+

One, in the subject that is actually limiting the points total rather than the one with the lowest grade. One weekly hour plus marked written work between sessions is enough to establish whether the diagnosis was right, and it leaves room in a week that already contains six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Two sessions a week is the normal pattern inside the final eight weeks before examinations, because it doubles the number of marking cycles rather than simply adding hours.

Can one tutor cover two Diploma subjects for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth being careful about. Mathematics and Physics, or Chemistry and Biology, are pairs where one well-qualified tutor can genuinely teach both at Standard Level and often at Higher Level. Pairs that cross the sciences and the humanities almost never work, however confident the offer. Ask which of the two subjects the tutor has actually taught at your child's level, and treat a yes to everything as a reason to ask the question again more precisely.

Is there any advantage left to a tutor who arrives in person?+

Yes, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. For a primary-aged child, a person in the room holds attention better than a screen and there is no technology to fail. For a student who needs supervision rather than teaching, a visiting tutor at the table is a reasonable product. For a household where screen time is already a battle, the social presence is worth something. Our UAE delivery is online across the board, so in those cases a local arrangement may suit you better than we would, and we would rather say it.

Compare the models, not the postcodes

The comparison worth making in Jumeirah 1 is not this district against Jumeirah 3. It is a tutor chosen by distance against a tutor chosen by subject and level, priced with the published figures in front of you, with the permit question asked and the replacement policy settled before you need it. Done that way, the decision holds whether you live on Beach Road, in Al Hudaiba, out on Pearl Jumeira or in Umm Suqeim next year. Lessons from IB Gram are one-to-one and online, with one free trial lesson in one subject before any paid block, and no in-home service anywhere in the UAE.
