IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Investments Park

The real question behind a search for an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Investments Park is whether anybody out here can cover three sciences properly, or whether you need three people. The answer depends on one thing you can check yourself in twenty minutes. This page shows how, and states where our own coverage ends. Lessons are delivered live online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • A test for whether one tutor can cover all three sciences
  • Separate, Coordinated and Combined routes distinguished clearly
  • Coverage for each science and board stated before payment
  • No tutor is sent to any address in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Investments Park

One tutor or three? The answer is in two marked scripts

Dubai Investments Park sits in the southern corridor, split between DIP 1 and DIP 2, mixing industrial and commercial plots with residential enclaves including Green Community and Ritaj, served by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road and its own Metro station towards Expo City. A British-curriculum school and two IB schools sit inside the district, with most secondary students travelling out to Jebel Ali, Al Furjan or Dubai South.

A family here looking for science support is usually looking at three subjects at once, or at one combined award covering all three, and the practical question is whether that means one tutor or three. Three tutors is three times the cost, three times the scheduling in a week already shortened by a long school run, and three separate relationships to manage. One tutor is cheaper and simpler and is sometimes the wrong answer.

The thing that decides it is whether the deficit is shared or specific, and you can establish that yourself. Take the last marked script from two different sciences and compare the annotations. If the same comment appears in both, such as a description offered where the question said explain, or a method that assumes the reader was present, the deficit is a shared convention and one tutor fixes all three subjects in a single block of four to six sessions. If the comments are unrelated, you have one topic problem in one science, which is a three to five session fix with a specialist.

The second thing to establish is which award your child sits, because separate sciences, Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Cambridge Combined Science 0653 are three different qualifications with different papers and different depths. A tutor practising separate-science past papers with a Combined Science candidate is teaching material that will not appear, which wastes the block and dents confidence simultaneously.

The third factor is the week itself. Three sciences need three contacts, and in this corridor children travel to schools inside DIP, to Jebel Ali, Al Furjan, Dubai South or further north, so arrival home ranges from under four o'clock to past six. A household that can hold three weekday science slots is unusual here; most can hold one or two plus a weekend morning, which is a reason to sequence the work rather than run it in parallel.

One premise, stated plainly: IB Gram delivers one-to-one IGCSE science tuition into DIP homes as live online video sessions on Gulf Standard Time, with diagrams and working shared and annotated on screen. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home visits are a service we run only in India. For a three-science household that is useful in a specific way: three specialists can take three evenings without three cars crossing two motorways at the same hour.

At a glance

  • Compare annotations on scripts from two different sciences to find the deficit
  • A shared convention deficit needs one tutor and one block of four to six sessions
  • Separate sciences, Coordinated 0654 and Combined 0653 are three different qualifications
  • Practical skills are examined on paper, not in a laboratory session
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; the February and March series is India-only
  • A long school run in this corridor can push the session start to 6pm or later
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four routes cover how DIP children sit IGCSE science, and which applies changes the paper count, the depth and what is possible at 16. It is the first thing to confirm and the easiest to get wrong.

SEPARATEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Three full IGCSEs with three sets of papers, usually Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 or Pearson Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. The deepest content and the widest post-16 options, at the cost of three subjects' worth of examination load alongside mathematics, English and the UAE mandatory subjects.

In a corridor where the school run already consumes several hours a week, three separate sciences is a genuinely heavy load, and a written revision rotation matters more here than in a district where the school is ten minutes away. A student doing three sciences badly has worse options at 16 than one doing Coordinated well.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Coordinated Sciences

Two IGCSE awards covering biology, chemistry and physics in less depth than the separates, tiered Core and Extended. It suits a student who needs science credit and timetable space, and it keeps more options open at 16 than Combined Science does, though fewer than the separates.

Coordinated is often arrived at late, when a school reorganises a cohort after Year 10 assessments. Ask explicitly what changes: the papers change, the past papers used for revision change, and some post-16 science routes need discussing with the school before the entry is confirmed.

0653Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Combined Science

A single IGCSE award covering all three sciences at the lowest depth of the three routes, tiered Core and Extended. The right entry for a student whose strengths lie elsewhere and who needs a science grade rather than a science pathway, and a poor entry for a student intending A Level or Higher Level IB sciences.

The important conversation is about 16. A Combined Science award does not position a student for A Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics or for the equivalent IB Higher Level courses, whatever grade is achieved. In this corridor, where families move schools as the area fills, that constraint can bind at a school you have not yet joined.

MIXEDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Mixed boards across the sciences

Departments choose boards independently, so a student can sit Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and Pearson Edexcel 4PH1 Physics in the same year, with different paper structures, different practical skills framing and two timetables to manage.

This is the commonest reason a science tutor ends up with the wrong practice set in this market, and it is invisible from inside a session because the content overlaps heavily. Check the code per science on the school's assessment paperwork rather than assuming the school uses one board throughout.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science support here is organised by what shows up in marked work, since that is what decides whether you need one tutor or three.

Biology: transport and exchange

Core and Extended

Diffusion, osmosis, circulation and gas exchange. The dominant loss is an explanation that describes a structure without linking it to the function the question asked about, which is a shared convention problem rather than a biology one.

Biology: inheritance and variation

Core and Extended

Genetic crosses, variation and selection. Students produce a correct Punnett square and omit the ratio or probability the question requested, and use gene and allele interchangeably in written answers.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended weighted

The arithmetic underneath most chemistry marks. Errors are almost never conceptual: a ratio inverted, a limiting reagent ignored, or units dropped partway through an otherwise sound calculation.

Chemistry: rates, energetics and equilibrium

Core and Extended

Collision theory, exothermic and endothermic changes, reversible reactions. The characteristic error is predicting correctly and then explaining the prediction by restating it rather than by reference to the change that caused it.

Chemistry: organic and analysis

Extended weighted

Homologous series, basic reactions and identification tests. An answer naming a correct product without the balanced equation, or a correct test without its observation, scores nothing in most schemes.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended

The topic DIP students name most often. The difficulty is reasoning rather than recall: saying what happens to current and potential difference when one component changes requires holding the whole circuit in mind.

Physics: waves and energy

Core and Extended

Reflection, refraction, the electromagnetic spectrum and energy transfer. Diagrams are marked on specified features, so a qualitatively correct ray diagram without labelled angles or a normal line loses most of its marks.

Practical skills on paper

All routes

Describing a method reproducibly, classifying variables, reading apparatus to the right precision and evaluating a specific weakness. Reliably the weakest paper in the set, shared across all three sciences, and therefore the single most efficient block available.

Command terms across the sciences

All routes

Describe, explain, suggest, compare and evaluate each demand a different response shape, and the conventions are shared across biology, chemistry and physics. Fixing this once pays three times over, which is the whole case for one tutor rather than three.

Data handling and graphs

All routes

Tables, plotting, line of best fit, gradients and conclusions supported by the data. Shared across the sciences, taught in a hurry separately in each one, and the second most efficient shared block after command terms.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns for a three-science problem, chosen by what the comparison of scripts shows. All are live one-to-one video sessions, and none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

One tutor, shared-skills block

Four to six sessions with a single tutor on the conventions common to all three sciences: command terms, practical method writing, variable classification, graph work and data conclusions. The right answer when the same annotation appears across scripts from two different sciences, and the cheapest science spending available.

  • Command terms separated and practised against scheme wording
  • Method writing drilled until a stranger could repeat the procedure
  • Graph and data conventions standardised across the three subjects
  • One tutor, one block, improvement visible in three subjects

One specialist, single-science block

Three to five sessions with a subject specialist on one identified topic in one science, chosen from a marked script. The right answer when the annotations across sciences are unrelated, which means the deficit is specific rather than shared.

  • Topic chosen from marked papers rather than from impression
  • Practice drawn from the correct board, tier and award only
  • Error log kept so the fix can be verified on a timed paper
  • Ends when the topic stops appearing in the log

Sequenced three-science plan

Where all three genuinely need work, they are sequenced rather than run in parallel, with the shared block first because it pays across all three. In a corridor household with limited weekday evenings, parallel plans produce three shallow efforts and no completed fix.

  • Shared conventions block first, then one science at a time
  • A written rotation with timed papers at planned intervals
  • The weakest science takes the first and the last slot
  • No science left untouched for more than two weeks

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai Investments Park

DIP families are matched after one question is answered: is the deficit shared across the sciences or specific to one? A shared deficit needs one tutor and one block. A specific one needs a subject specialist for a short block. Marked scripts from two different sciences settle it.

01

The twenty-minute test: shared deficit or specific?

This is the most useful unpaid work available to a family in this situation, and it decides whether you are buying one tutor or three. It needs no scientific expertise, only the marked scripts and a willingness to ignore the grades.

Take the last marked script from two different sciences, ideally biology and physics because they feel least alike. Read the marker's annotations rather than the ticks, and look for repetition across the two papers rather than within one. Markers use remarkably consistent shorthand, and the same comment appearing in two unrelated subjects is the clearest possible signal that the problem is a convention rather than a content gap.

The shared comments to look for are these. A description offered where the question said explain. A method that assumes the reader was present at the experiment. Variables mentioned but not classified as independent, dependent or controlled. A graph without labelled axes or units. A conclusion the data does not support. An evaluation consisting of generic remarks about human error. Any of those appearing in two sciences means one tutor and one block fixes three subjects.

If instead the comments are unrelated, such as stoichiometric ratios in chemistry and ray diagrams in physics, the deficit is specific and you need a short block with a specialist in whichever science shows the clearest recoverable loss. Either answer is cheaper than booking three weekly sessions, and both are reachable before anyone quotes you.

Separate sciences, Coordinated and Combined compared

This comparison is absent from every competitor page researched for this market, which is remarkable, because it is the decision that most shapes a Dubai student's science outcome. The three routes differ in how many qualifications are awarded, how deep the content goes, how many papers are sat and what remains available at 16.

Read the post-16 column first, because families usually read it last. A Combined Science award does not position a student for A Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or for the equivalent IB Higher Level courses, regardless of the grade. Coordinated Sciences sits in between and should be discussed explicitly with the school rather than assumed either way. Separate sciences keep everything open at the cost of the heaviest examination load.

The load question is real and should not be dismissed, particularly here. Three sciences in a timetable that also carries mathematics, English, the UAE mandatory subjects of Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and two or three options, is a great deal of examined content for a fifteen-year-old, and in this corridor several hours a week are already going to the school run. A student doing three sciences badly has worse options at 16 than one doing Coordinated Sciences well.

So the first question to put to a tutor is not about their experience; it is about which paper is on their screen. The most common avoidable error in science tutoring in Dubai is a mismatched practice set - separate-science papers worked with a Coordinated candidate, or Extended papers worked with a Core entry. Either produces a term of practice calibrated to an examination the student is not sitting, and a family here has usually spent a fortnight of hard-won weekday evenings on it before anybody notices. Confirm the award, the board and the tier before the first session, and ask the tutor to state out loud which of the three they are working from.

03

The practical paper, which is a writing paper

Families arriving from systems with laboratory examinations are regularly surprised by this, and the surprise costs marks. In these qualifications practical skills are assessed in writing. The student describes a method, classifies variables, reads apparatus from a diagram, processes data and evaluates a procedure, all on paper and with no equipment in front of them.

That makes it a writing skill with a finite set of conventions, which is good news, because finite skills can be taught to completion. The method must be reproducible: a stranger reading it should be able to repeat the experiment without asking a question. Variables must be named as independent, dependent and controlled rather than merely mentioned. Readings must be given to the precision the apparatus supports. Evaluation must identify a specific weakness in this procedure rather than a generic limitation that would apply to any experiment.

It is reliably the weakest paper in the set, for a structural reason rather than anyone's fault: practising it properly means marking extended written answers rather than ticking right answers, which is slow for a department covering three sciences. Students therefore meet it in a mock, score poorly, and conclude they are weak at science when they are weak at one kind of writing.

Four sessions usually changes it substantially, and because the conventions are shared the gain applies across all three sciences at once. That makes it, along with command terms, the highest-return science work available to a DIP family, and it requires no new content at all, which also means it fits a short weekday slot after a long school run.

Coverage for three sciences, stated honestly

No competitor page in the research behind these pages discloses a coverage limit, which is implausible, since every service has one. For a three-science household the question is sharper than usual, because three simultaneous matches at compatible times is a bigger ask than one.

Here is the position. A single tutor for a shared-skills block is reliably available, usually within a few days, because the work is convention rather than deep subject specialism and any competent science teacher can deliver it. A single specialist for one science and one board is also generally available within a few days. Three specialists across three sciences at three compatible times in the same week is a materially harder ask, and in the weeks before a series it is sometimes not possible at all.

When it is not, you will be told, and the alternative offered will be a sequenced start rather than a simultaneous one: the shared block first, then one science at a time. That is usually the better plan anyway in a corridor household, because parallel plans in a shortened week produce three shallow efforts and no completed fix. But it should be your choice, made with the information, rather than something arranged quietly.

One further disclosure. Where no UAE-based specialist is available for a particular science and board, the match may be a teacher working from outside the UAE on Gulf Standard Time. That is stated rather than hidden behind a non-UAE contact number. The test stays the same for every match: has this person taught this board and code, and can they name the failure from a marked script?

Sequencing three sciences when the week is short

Three sciences cannot be revised simultaneously in eight weeks, and in this corridor the week is shorter than the calendar suggests because several hours have already gone to the school run. A rotation fixes it, and the rotation has to be written down rather than intended.

The principle is straightforward. The shared-skills block comes first if the script comparison pointed that way, because it improves all three subjects at once and makes everything afterwards more efficient. Then the weakest science takes the first and last slots of the rotation, each science gets a timed paper at planned intervals, and nothing goes more than two weeks without contact.

Writing it down matters because an unwritten plan quietly becomes a plan to revise whichever subject feels most frightening this week, which is always the same subject. The predictable result is thorough coverage of one science, adequate coverage of a second, and a visible gap in the third, usually whichever was taught first and revised last.

One rule students resist: the timed paper comes before the revision of that topic, not after. A paper taken cold tells you what to revise; a paper taken after revision tells you that you revised. The first is information and the second is reassurance, and only one of them changes a grade. In a short week, spending a slot on reassurance is an expensive choice.

Adapt the rotation to your own school's mock window, which the exams officer holds and which differs across this corridor by several weeks. A rotation copied from a neighbour at a different school is likely to be aimed at the wrong fortnight, and in an eight-week plan the wrong fortnight is a quarter of the work.

What it costs for three sciences, and where it goes wrong

A three-science household can turn a reasonable hourly rate into an unreasonable monthly total very quickly, simply by booking one weekly session per subject without first asking whether that is what the problem needs.

The market, attributed and dated October 2026. A qualified subject tutor online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 per hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Budget online provision starts at Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel per Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost table, and in this corridor that travel component is doing more work than it would centrally. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. None of these is an IB Gram price list; ours is set after the free trial.

The comparison that matters is between a shared block and three weekly sessions. A single shared-skills block of four to six sessions improves all three sciences and costs roughly a third of three parallel weekly plans. Where one science genuinely needs content work on top, a targeted single-science block is added rather than substituted. The waste is in buying three plans because three subjects looked weak, when the scripts showed one convention.

Worth setting against the rest of the household budget. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. School fees are therefore fixed for the year while tutoring is the main variable line in most education budgets - and in a three-science household the variable line is the one that quietly triples if nobody reads the scripts first. A frozen fee is not a reason to book three weekly sessions; it is a reason to find out whether one shared block would have done it.

The mandatory UAE subjects, and the timetable arithmetic

  • Mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum
  • Separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs in three of the subjects
  • Instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit
  • Additional or different content requires prior Ministry of Education permission
  • When several subjects slip at once, audit the week before buying tutors

Now the subjects nobody counts when they are counting a Year 11 week. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, so a Dubai Investments Park pupil sitting Cambridge or Pearson science carries them as well. KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or by April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. There is a section on this here because no competitor page in any cluster researched for this market has one, which is strange given that it applies to every Dubai private school pupil and to every hour of homework a three-science timetable has to fit around it.

The grouping rules are precise, and they are why these subjects take more of the week than their headline count suggests. KHDA requires separate classes by group for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are strictly prohibited, because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ between them. Standard Arabic is the language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. For Social Studies, Arabic is the primary language for Arab students, while non-Arabs are taught in the language of the school's licensed curriculum. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold appropriate KHDA approval - which is also the answer to a question DIP parents ask us: no, a science tutor is not a back route into these subjects.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools able to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met and a recommendation that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Content is tightly controlled: KHDA states that using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited, so support in these subjects works inside the school's own material.

For a three-science household in this corridor the consequence is arithmetic rather than academic. These subjects sit on top of three sciences, mathematics, English and options, and several hours a week are already going to the journey. A Year 11 student underperforming across several subjects at once is quite often out of hours rather than out of ability, and the correct first response is an audit of the week rather than the purchase of three tutors.

Starting from Dubai Investments Park

  • Send the award, board and tier per science, school, two scripts, the next deadline and the real arrival time
  • Free trial lesson confirms whether the deficit is shared or specific
  • Blocks with stated lengths and a verification paper at the end
  • No grade promises, no claimed approvals, no invented statistics

Send six things: the award, the board and tier for each science, the school, marked scripts from two different sciences, the next deadline the school has set, and the time your child actually gets home on a normal weekday. The two scripts are the critical item, because comparing them is what establishes whether you need one tutor or three.

The free trial lesson comes before any payment and confirms or corrects the comparison you made yourself, then estimates the block. If the honest answer is one shared block of four sessions rather than three weekly plans, that is what you will be told, and it costs us the larger booking.

And four things that will not appear in the written estimate that comes back. No grade promise, because no honest provider can make one, and a promise across three sciences would be three times as dishonest. No suggestion that tutoring is required for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, each of which would be a false claim about a regulatory process your family may genuinely have to navigate. No regulator or board approval, stated plainly: IB Gram holds no permit, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no UAE office, centre or branch, in Dubai Investments Park or anywhere else. And no satisfaction statistics, because a figure given without its sample, its date and its method is decoration rather than evidence.

Two notes on what happens to the six things we have just asked you to send. Those marked scripts carry information about a child, so the enquiry form asks only for what the plan needs, states why it is asking, and keeps a privacy link on every page; we do not ask for a photograph, and you can ask for the record to be deleted. The second note concerns what travels the other way: we do not publish or supply Cambridge or Pearson past papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents as downloads, because that material is the boards' copyright. We cite it, we link to it, and we work from what your child's school has legitimately provided - which is one more reason the scripts matter so much.

Where we tutor

Dubai Investments Park and the corridor around it

For a three-science household the session hour matters more than usual, because three subjects need three contacts. Each note gives the practical travel reality.

Dubai Investments Park 1 and 2

Industrial and commercial plots with residential enclaves inside a large footprint. Low residential density means thin local specialist supply, which bites hardest when three different sciences are needed at once.

Green Community and Ritaj

Established residential enclaves within DIP, with arrival home ranging from under four o'clock to past five depending on school and transport, which decides how many science contacts a week can hold.

Al Furjan

Villas and townhouses north of DIP with a Metro station and a British-curriculum school inside the community, giving shorter runs and enough evening for a three-science rotation on weekdays.

Jebel Ali

Established British-curriculum schools serving the corridor, with afternoon traffic typically putting a student home between 4.45pm and 5.30pm, so one of three weekly science slots usually moves to the weekend.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest part of the corridor around Expo City, with long runs and recent schools often in early inspection cycles, so senior science supplementation is more common here.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartment living with nearly every child bussed out and long runs both ways, which means a three-science household here generally puts two contacts at the weekend.

The Sustainable City

A planned community towards Al Qudra with a school inside it and walkable access, giving the earliest achievable session starts anywhere nearby.

Dubai Production City

A mixed media and residential district north east of DIP with short runs to schools in Motor City and Sports City and a middling arrival of about 4.30pm to 5pm.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Compare scripts from two different sciences

This is the step that decides whether you buy one tutor or three, and it is free. Read the annotations rather than the ticks and look for repetition across subjects: the same comment in biology and physics means a shared convention and one block.

  2. 02

Confirm the award before anything else

Separate sciences, Coordinated 0654 and Combined 0653 are three different qualifications with different papers and depths. Practising the wrong one wastes the block and dents confidence at once, and the school's assessment paperwork states which applies.

  3. 03

    Confirm the board per science

Departments choose independently, so a student can sit Cambridge chemistry alongside Edexcel physics. Check each science separately, then tell the tutor in writing which codes they are working from and ask which series the practice papers come from.

    Write the rotation down

Three sciences need a written rotation with timed papers at planned intervals, because an unwritten plan becomes a plan to revise whichever subject feels most alarming this week. Shared block first, weakest science first and last, nothing untouched for two weeks.

  5. 05

Verify with a timed paper, then stop

Each block ends with a paper under examination conditions in the subject worked on. If the logged error has gone, stopping is the right recommendation. A three-science household is where open-ended arrangements become expensive fastest.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A free test for one tutor or three

Comparing annotations across scripts from two different sciences settles the question before anyone quotes you, and it costs twenty minutes. If the same comment appears in both, one block of four to six sessions improves all three subjects.

The award established first

Separate, Coordinated 0654 and Combined 0653 differ in depth, papers and post-16 position. No competitor page researched for this market compares them, and practising the wrong route's papers is the most common avoidable error in Dubai science tutoring.

The practical paper taken seriously

Practical skills are examined in writing with a finite set of conventions: reproducible method, classified variables, justified precision, specific evaluation. Reliably the weakest paper in the set and among the most improvable, and it fits a short weekday slot.

Coverage for three sciences stated plainly

One tutor for a shared block is reliably available; three specialists at three compatible times in the same week is a materially harder ask and sometimes not possible near a series. You are told, and offered a sequenced start.

Costs compared monthly, with sources

Indicative monthly AED figures from Bestimate's 2026 estimates and providers' published rates, dated October 2026, set against what each approach actually achieves rather than against an unnamed competitor.

The timetable counted honestly

Three sciences plus mathematics, English, options and the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies, in a week already shortened by the school run. Sometimes the right advice is to audit the week rather than buy a tutor.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Investments Park: your questions answered

Do we need one science tutor or three?+

Compare marked scripts from two different sciences and read the annotations rather than the ticks. If the same comment appears in both, such as a description offered where the question said explain or a method that assumes the reader was present, the deficit is a shared convention and one tutor fixes all three subjects in a block of four to six sessions. If the comments are unrelated, you have a specific topic gap in one science, which is a three to five session block with a specialist.

Can a tutor come to our DIP home for science lessons?+

Not through IB Gram. We teach IGCSE science one-to-one into DIP homes over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with diagrams and working annotated on a shared screen, and we send no tutors to UAE addresses; in-person home visits are an India-only service for us. For a three-science household this helps concretely: three specialists can take three evenings without three cars crossing two motorways at the same hour.

Our school entered our child for Coordinated Sciences. What does that mean?+

It is one of three quite different qualifications. Separate sciences give three full IGCSEs with three paper sets and the deepest content. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 gives two awards covering all three sciences at intermediate depth. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 gives one award at the shallowest depth. The post-16 consequence matters most: a Combined award does not position a student for A Level or IB Higher Level sciences regardless of grade, and Coordinated should be discussed explicitly with the school.

Our child has never sat a laboratory exam. What does the practical paper test?+

Writing, not laboratory work. The paper asks the student to describe a method reproducibly, classify variables as independent, dependent and controlled, read apparatus to the correct precision, process data and identify a specific weakness in the procedure. The conventions are finite, which means they can be taught to completion in about four sessions, and because they are shared across biology, chemistry and physics the gain applies to all three subjects at once.

How should three sciences be revised in a short week?+

On a written rotation, never in parallel. Put the shared conventions block first if the script comparison pointed that way, because it makes everything afterwards more efficient. Then give the weakest science the first and last slots, put a timed paper in each science at planned intervals, and let nothing go more than two weeks without contact. Write it down, because an unwritten plan becomes a plan to revise whichever subject feels most alarming this week.

Why does the timed paper come before the revision?+

Because a paper taken cold is information and a paper taken after revision is reassurance, and only one of them changes a grade. A cold paper tells you which topics and which conventions are actually costing marks, so the following sessions can be aimed. A paper sat after a week of revising the same topic confirms that the week happened. In a short week, spending a slot on reassurance is an expensive choice.

Can you cover all three sciences at the same time?+

A single tutor for a shared-skills block is reliably available, usually within a few days. One specialist for one science and board is also generally available quickly. Three specialists across three sciences at three compatible times in the same week is a materially harder ask, and in the weeks before a series it is sometimes not possible. If so you will be told and offered a sequenced start, which in a corridor household is usually the better plan anyway.

Which science topic gives DIP students the most trouble?+

Electricity and circuits in physics, consistently. The difficulty is reasoning rather than recall: saying what happens to current and potential difference when one component changes means holding the whole circuit in mind, and a student who has memorised every relationship can still fail the question. Chemistry's equivalent is moles and stoichiometry, where the error is usually an inverted ratio or an ignored limiting reagent. Biology's is explanation that describes a structure without linking it to function.

Is Combined Science a problem if our child might want medicine?+

Yes, and the conversation belongs before the entry is confirmed rather than in Year 12. A Combined Science award does not position a student for A Level Biology or Chemistry, or for the equivalent IB Higher Level courses, and medical and related applications commonly expect chemistry at that depth alongside biology. In this corridor, where families move schools as the area fills, that constraint can bind at a school you have not yet joined.

How much should we budget for three sciences?+

It depends entirely on whether the deficit is shared, which is why the free script comparison comes first. A shared-skills block of four to six sessions over six weeks runs roughly AED 600 to 1,200 monthly at mid-market rates and improves all three subjects. A targeted single-science block is similar. Both together in an examination year runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more per Bestimate's 2026 estimates. Three parallel weekly sessions is the most expensive option and frequently not the most effective.

Does the exam board matter for the sciences?+

In Year 11, considerably. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers, weight topics differently, use different tier vocabulary and frame practical skills assessment differently, even where the content overlaps heavily. Departments choose independently, so a student can sit Cambridge chemistry alongside Edexcel physics. Check the code per science on the school's assessment paperwork, and ask any prospective tutor which codes they are building practice from and from which series.

Our child seems weak in everything at once. What does that mean?+

Often that they are out of hours rather than out of ability, particularly in this corridor. Three sciences sit alongside mathematics, English, options and the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and several hours a week are already going to the school run. When several subjects slip simultaneously the correct first response is an audit of the week rather than the purchase of three tutors, and we would rather say so than take three bookings.

Do you supply science past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and a provider advertising them as a feature is distributing someone else's property. Cambridge and Pearson past papers, mark schemes, grade boundary tables and syllabus documents are the boards' copyright. We reference them, cite the official source, link to it, and work from what your child's school legitimately provides. The subject teacher also remains the authority on exactly what this cohort sits and which tier each science is entered at.

If one science goes badly in June, can it be retaken alone?+

Yes. Both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel run a November series, and for a candidate sitting in Dubai that is the resit route; the February and March series is offered to India only. A November attempt is easier to plan than a first attempt because you hold the real script and the real grade, so the two or three topics that cost it can be identified precisely rather than guessed. Entry is arranged by the school's exams officer and is worth discussing as soon as results arrive.

Compare two scripts before you book three tutors

The question most science enquiries from Dubai Investments Park really contain is whether one tutor can cover three subjects, and it has a free answer. Put the last marked script from two different sciences side by side and read the annotations. The same comment in both means a shared convention and one block of four to six sessions that improves all three. Unrelated comments mean one specialist for a short block. Either way you will spend less than three parallel weekly plans. Send those scripts with the award, the boards and the real arrival time. Lessons run live online into your DIP home on Gulf Standard Time.
