IGCSE Maths Tutor in The Springs

Booking an IGCSE maths tutor in The Springs is a spending decision, and the biggest variable is not the hourly rate. It is which of the five separate qualifications sold under the name IGCSE maths your child is entered for, and which single paper is losing the marks. IB Gram matches Mathematics specialists to families across Emirates Living for one-to-one lessons over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial.

  • Syllabus code and tier confirmed before a tutor is matched
  • Every AED band on this page credited to who published it
  • Non-calculator and calculator papers treated as separate skills
  • Block pricing agreed before the first lesson, not after

IB & IGCSE in The Springs

Five qualifications, one name, and a very wide price range

A Springs parent comparing two maths quotes is usually comparing two numbers attached to completely different jobs. The phrase IGCSE maths covers at least five qualifications in this community: Cambridge Mathematics 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 and Mathematics B 4MB1, with Further Pure 4PM1 as a sixth in a handful of schools. They differ in paper count, in whether a calculator is allowed, in tiering and in the grade range available. A tutor fluent in one can be genuinely weak in another.

That matters financially because the wrong match is invisible for about eight lessons. A tutor who knows 0580 inside out will teach an Edexcel 4MA1 student competently and still leave them unprepared for a paper structure they have never practised. At published Dubai rates of AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor, eight lessons is AED 1,200 to 2,400 spent before anybody notices. One email to the school's examinations officer prevents all of it.

The second financial variable is the tier, because it caps the outcome. Cambridge 0580 Core entry offers grades C to G; Extended offers A* to E. Pearson 4MA1 Foundation offers grades 5 to 1; Higher offers 9 to 4, with a 3 allowed. A family paying specialist rates to lift a child from grade C to grade A while the school has entered them at Core tier is paying for something the entry form has already ruled out, and no tutor can fix that in the spring of Year 11.

The third is the paper. Marks are lost in specific, diagnosable places: algebraic manipulation under time pressure, bearings and vectors, multi-step probability, transformations described imprecisely, and the non-calculator paper where a student who has leaned on technology for two years finally has to think. Each of those has a different cost to fix, and the cheapest ones are often the ones nobody addresses because they look too small to buy lessons for.

This page sets out the dirham figures with their sources, counts the hours honestly rather than promising outcomes, and names the four places a maths budget leaks in a Springs household. Delivery is stated plainly up front: lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai, because home tutoring is a service offered only in India, and a maths lesson on a shared whiteboard loses nothing by arriving on a screen.

One framing point before the numbers. The cheapest version of this decision is the one taken before any money has moved, because four questions asked at the start cost nothing and change everything that follows. Which code and tier is the entry. Which paper is losing the marks. Whether the cause is content, accuracy or timing. And how many lessons the answer to those three justifies. A family that settles those before comparing rates almost always buys fewer hours than one that starts with a price list.

At a glance

  • Cambridge 0580, 0607, 0606 and Pearson 4MA1, 4MB1, 4PM1 are different qualifications
  • Core and Foundation tiers cap the grade available, whatever the tutoring
  • Published Dubai online rates: AED 150-300 qualified, AED 200-450+ specialist
  • The non-calculator paper is a separate trainable skill, not harder content
  • Teaching is online one-to-one; no UAE home visits are offered
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The maths spend in a Springs household behaves differently at each stage of a two-year course. Separating the stages is what stops a family buying thirty lessons when eight would have done.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Pre-IGCSE

Year 9, the options year

The cheapest maths intervention available. Fractions, indices, rearranging formulae and negative-number fluency all get set here, and a gap left now reappears in Year 11 disguised as a problem with the new syllabus. Eight lessons at this stage are usually worth more than thirty in the final term.

Schools serving The Springs run option evenings in the spring term of Year 9, and that is when a family learns whether Additional Mathematics 0606 or Further Pure 4PM1 is available as a fourth block. Taking it smooths the first term of A Level or Higher Level maths considerably.

Y10Ages 14-15 · First IGCSE year

Year 10

The year when a weekly slot costs least and does most, because content is still being taught for the first time rather than revisited. Tier decisions are also still movable in most Dubai schools during the autumn, which makes a diagnostic here worth more than it will ever be again.

Ask the department in the autumn of Year 10 which tier your child is provisionally entered at and what evidence that is based on. In most schools around Emirates Living the decision firms up over the year, and a parent who knows the provisional answer can act while acting is still possible.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Examination year

Year 11 and the examination series

Demand across Dubai peaks here and so do prices. Hours in Year 11 should go to specific diagnosed components rather than general catch-up: the non-calculator paper, timing across a full paper, and the four or five topics the mock analysis actually flagged.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series; Pearson International GCSE sits in May/June and November. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, so by the spring term the tier and subject set are fixed and only technique is still movable.

POST16Ages 16+ · A Level or IB

After IGCSE maths

The grade is read differently by different destinations. A Level mathematics departments look hardest at the algebra, IB Diploma coordinators at whether the student can handle Analysis and Approaches or should take Applications and Interpretation. Both read a Higher or Extended tier entry as a prerequisite in practice.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, and enrolment rose six per cent during 2025-26. The post-16 choice set from The Springs is wider than it was for an older sibling, so it is worth re-checking rather than assuming.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the topic areas where Emirates Living families most often ask for maths help, with what the question usually looks like and what the fix costs in lessons rather than in dirhams.

Algebraic manipulation

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Expanding, factorising, rearranging and solving. Almost every diagnostic starts here because weakness shows up elsewhere as a topic problem. Four to six lessons of marked practice usually moves it, and it pays back across every other topic on the paper.

Fractions, indices and surds

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The non-calculator paper lives here. A student who has used technology for two years often cannot simplify confidently under time pressure. Cheap to fix, routinely untaught as a separate skill, and worth marks on every paper in the series.

Graphs and functions

Extended and Higher

Quadratic and reciprocal graphs, transformations, gradients and areas under curves. Marks are lost sketching without axes labels and reading intercepts off a calculator display rather than reasoning. The graph question is usually worth more than students treat it as.

Trigonometry, bearings and vectors

Extended and Higher

Sine and cosine rules, three-dimensional problems, bearings written imprecisely and column vectors. A recurring Dubai weak point where the mathematics is understood and the diagram discipline is not, which makes it one of the highest-return topics to tutor.

Probability and tree diagrams

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Multi-step conditional probability with and without replacement. Students who can draw a tree still lose marks by multiplying along the wrong branch or leaving the final answer unsimplified. Three lessons is often the whole fix.

Transformations and loci

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Describing a transformation fully, with centre, scale factor, direction and mirror line, is a mark-scheme habit rather than a concept. Students lose two or three marks a paper here, which is a grade boundary in a close year.

Mensuration and compound measures

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Surface area, volume, similar shapes, density, speed and unit conversion. The arithmetic is simple and the unit discipline is not, which is why these questions reward careful setting-out more than ability.

Statistics and data handling

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal class widths, and interpretation sentences. The interpretation marks are frequently left blank because students treat the question as finished once the diagram is drawn.

Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1

Single tier

The fourth-option courses that bridge into A Level or Higher Level IB maths. Calculus, series and more demanding algebra. Fewer tutors in this market teach them, which is why they are worth asking about specifically rather than assuming coverage.

Examination technique and timing

All tiers

Minute allocation against marks, choosing a method quickly, and knowing when to abandon a question. Not a topic, and not taught in most classrooms, but the commonest cause of a student who is fine in class and loses marks in papers.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE maths support, priced differently because they consume different amounts of the week. Which one is right depends on the diagnosis, not the budget.

Weekly slot through the course

Sixty minutes a week alongside the school's scheme of work, consolidating what was taught before the gap compounds. The lowest total cost per mark gained of the three, and the one that only delivers that if it starts in Year 10 rather than the spring of Year 11.

  • Fixed day and time held for the term
  • Follows the school sequence, not a parallel one
  • Written note after every lesson
  • Cheapest route when started early

A fixed block on one component

Six to ten lessons on a single diagnosed weakness: the non-calculator paper, trigonometry and bearings, or whole-paper timing. The number of lessons and the total cost are agreed before the first one, and the block ends when the component is fixed.

  • One named weakness, not general catch-up
  • Total known in advance, no rolling commitment
  • Runs through half terms and study leave
  • Written handover of what still needs work

Mock-analysis intensive

Four to six lessons built directly on the school's question-level analysis of a mock paper. The most efficient spend available in Year 11, because the diagnosis is already done and paid for by the school.

  • Starts from the marked mock, not a conversation
  • Targets the four or five topics that actually lost marks
  • Includes at least one full paper under timed conditions
  • Best booked in the fortnight after results come back

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Springs

01

The five qualifications sold as IGCSE maths, and why the code decides the price

Before comparing any two quotes, find out exactly what your child is sitting. In schools serving The Springs the realistic list is Cambridge Mathematics 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 and Mathematics B 4MB1, with Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 appearing in a few schools as a fourth option. These are not variations on a theme. They differ in paper count, calculator policy, tiering and the grade range available.

The practical difference shows up in the first marked past paper. A 0607 student sits an investigation component and is expected to use a graphic display calculator throughout; a 4MA1 student sits two conventional two-hour papers; a 4MB1 student sits a Higher-tier-only course with no Foundation route at all. A tutor who has taught only one of these will prepare a student competently for the wrong paper, and the family will not find out until a mock.

Pricing follows scarcity. Tutors for 0580 and 4MA1 are plentiful in this market because those are the volume qualifications. Tutors for 0606, 0607 and 4PM1 are not, which is why those requests should be made explicitly rather than assumed to be covered by anyone advertising IGCSE maths in Dubai. Asking the question at the start costs nothing; discovering it at lesson eight costs whatever eight lessons cost.

Paper numbers, durations and calculator policies are revised by both boards from time to time, so the table below should be confirmed against the syllabus document for your child's actual examination series rather than taken as permanent.

02

The tier is the ceiling, and the ceiling is the first thing to price

  • Ask which tier your child is entered at and what evidence that rests on
  • Ask when the final entry deadline falls, in writing
  • A diagnostic in Year 10 is the evidence that moves a tier decision
  • A secure grade at the lower tier can beat a scraped one at the higher

Tier entry is the most consequential maths decision in a British-curriculum Springs household and the one most often discovered rather than decided. Cambridge 0580 Core entry makes grades C to G available and nothing above. Pearson 4MA1 Foundation makes grades 5 to 1 available. Higher and Extended entry open the full range but also set harder papers, where a student pitched too high can end up with a lower grade than they would have earned at the tier below.

A family paying AED 250 an hour to move a child from a predicted C towards an A, while the school has entered that child at Core tier, is buying something the entry form has already excluded. This is not a rare scenario. It happens most often when the tier was set quietly in Year 10 on the basis of one assessment and nobody told the parents explicitly.

The sequence that avoids it takes two emails. Ask the department which tier your child is entered or provisionally entered at, and what evidence that decision rests on. Then ask when the final entry deadline falls. In most Dubai schools the decision remains movable through the autumn of Year 11 with the department's agreement, and a tutor's diagnostic in Year 10 is the strongest evidence a parent can bring to that conversation.

Where a child is genuinely borderline, the honest tutoring question is not how to get the higher tier but which tier produces the better outcome. A secure grade 5 at Foundation is worth more to a post-16 application than a grade 4 scraped at Higher after two terms of anxiety, and a tutor who will say that out loud is worth more than one who will not.

03

What IGCSE maths help costs around Emirates Living, and what the premium buys

Take the in-home premium first, because it is the clearest illustration of what a rate actually includes. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table showing 180 to 350 and independent home tutors 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages in this market run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Named specialists teaching online are quoted at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270. At AED 300 an hour, the money is buying either a journey or a syllabus specialism, and the teaching hour itself is the same length in both.

Below that premium, qualified subject tutors working online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. The budget band, advertised by EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, generally buys a university student working from a textbook. Monthly online packages at around AED 799 for eight sessions sit between the two. At the top, premium and examiner-branded tutoring reaches AED 500 to 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement give the household view: AED 240 to 600 in the budget band, AED 600 to 1,200 in the mid band, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. Those are the numbers a Springs budget actually feels, and they are the ones to compare against a school fee that KHDA confirmed will not rise for 2026-27 under Dubai's AED 1.5 billion incentives package.

All of the above are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, reproduced so you can judge any quote you are given. They are not IB Gram's price list. Our conversation starts with a free trial lesson and an honest estimate of how many hours the diagnosis justifies, which is a different question from what an hour costs.

Counting hours honestly instead of promising grades

No tutor can promise a grade, and anyone in this market who offers one should be treated with real scepticism. What can be described honestly is what families typically buy for a given starting point, and how much of the work has to come from the student rather than the tutor. The table below is a planning aid built from the shape of the qualification, not a forecast about any child.

Two things drive the hour count more than ability. The first is how much of the syllabus has been taught: a student in the autumn of Year 10 who is behind on three topics needs fewer hours than a student in the spring of Year 11 who is behind on twelve, because in the first case the school is still teaching the content and the tutor is reinforcing it. The second is whether the problem is content, accuracy or timing. Content needs teaching. Accuracy needs marked written practice. Timing needs whole papers under the clock, which almost no student does voluntarily at home.

The least efficient purchase in the whole market is open-ended weekly tutoring with no named target. It renews by default, it feels productive, and after two terms nobody can say what changed. A block with a stated endpoint - this component, these lessons, this total - forces the conversation that makes the spend accountable.

Ask any tutor to put a number on the lessons they think the diagnosis justifies, and to say what should be different at the end of them. A specialist will answer. A provider who will not name a number is quietly selling an open-ended subscription.

05

The non-calculator paper is a separate skill with a separate price

  • Six skills account for most non-calculator marks: fractions, indices, surds, standard form, estimation, exact answers
  • Short daily practice beats a weekly hour for fluency
  • Six to eight lessons is the usual effective block
  • The cheapest grade movement available in the qualification

A student who has had a calculator available for every piece of mathematics since Year 7 has not practised arithmetic reasoning, and that shows up as a sudden cliff on the non-calculator component. Parents read it as a content problem and buy content lessons. It is not a content problem. It is a fluency problem, and fluency responds to short daily practice far better than to a weekly hour.

What the paper actually asks for is manageable: fraction arithmetic without decimals, index laws applied cleanly, surds simplified, standard form manipulated, estimation to sensible significant figures, and the recognition that an exact answer is often expected rather than a decimal approximation. None of that is hard mathematics. All of it is unpractised.

The efficient purchase here is a short block - six to eight lessons - combined with a daily ten-minute routine that costs nothing. The tutor's job is to diagnose which of the six skills is missing, model the method, set the right practice and mark it properly. The student's job is the ten minutes. A family that buys the lessons and skips the ten minutes has bought half a product.

This is also the cheapest grade movement available in the whole qualification, which is why it belongs in a page about cost. Two or three marks a paper recovered on arithmetic fluency, across two papers, is a grade boundary in a close year, and it costs a fraction of what re-teaching trigonometry costs.

06

Retake arithmetic: November, the next June, or a private candidate entry

If results come back below what a post-16 place requires, the decision is financial as well as academic, and the windows are fixed by the boards rather than by anybody's preference. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series. Pearson International GCSE sits in May/June and November, with the November 2026 International GCSE timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Put the two series a UAE candidate can sit next to each other and the retake choice makes itself. November is the fast route: Pearson's November 2026 papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026 and the grade follows in January, as the November 2025 series showed when results reached students on 22 January 2026. The next June is the thorough route: entries close in the spring, the papers run in June and the grade arrives in August, in time for a post-16 place. Both close their entries well before the first paper, so the real deadline is the entry, not the exam, and a family deciding once revision has started has already chosen for itself.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the wrong version of the timetable is the centre's responsibility, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination as a result. Revise towards your school's own copy of the correct zone timetable, never a forum post or a generic calendar.

The cost comparison is straightforward once the dates are known. A November re-sit means a short intense block over roughly ten weeks, during which a student is also starting post-16 courses. Waiting for the following June means a longer, cheaper, calmer run but a year's delay in the grade being available. A private candidate entry through an approved examination centre adds an entry fee and administrative work that the school would otherwise have handled.

07

Four ways a maths budget leaks in a Springs household

  • Confirm the syllabus code before the first lesson, not after the first mock
  • Ask what board and tier the other students in a group class are on
  • Fix timing with timed papers, not with more content
  • Buy blocks with a named endpoint rather than an open subscription

The first leak is the wrong code. Paying for a 0580 specialist to prepare a 4MA1 candidate, or assuming anyone advertising IGCSE maths in Dubai can handle 0607 or 4PM1, costs eight lessons before it surfaces. One email fixes it permanently.

The second is the mixed group class. Group tuition is genuinely cheaper per hour and genuinely works where a cohort shares one gap. The Dubai reality is often a group advertised for IGCSE maths that contains Core and Extended students, two boards and two school sequences, producing an hour that fits nobody exactly. For a specific topic weakness, that is the most expensive cheap option in the market.

The third is content lessons bought to solve a timing problem. A student who is fine in class and loses marks in papers does not need more topics. They need whole papers under the clock, marked properly, with feedback on method choice and minute allocation. A tutor who responds to a poor mock by re-teaching the syllabus has misread the diagnosis and will bill for two terms.

The fourth is the open-ended weekly arrangement with no named target. It renews by default, feels productive, and resists review. A block with a stated component, a stated number of lessons and a stated total is the version a family can actually audit, and asking for that is reasonable regardless of who the provider is. A fifth, smaller leak is worth naming: paying a subject specialist to supervise homework. If what the household needs is somebody making sure the work happens at five o'clock, that is a different and much cheaper product, and merging the two inflates the bill without improving the mark.

08

Starting from The Springs, and the limits stated before payment

  • Board, code and tier before any match
  • A marked paper or mock analysis before any quote
  • Free trial lesson producing a written diagnosis and an hour count
  • Coverage limits, the online-only model and the no-guarantee position stated up front

The sequence is short. Email the examinations officer for the board, code and tier. Find a recent marked paper or the school's question-level analysis of a mock. Pick the slot the week can actually hold, which in most of this community is 17:00 on a weekday or a Saturday morning, because the bus reaches the later Springs numbers closer to 16:45 than to 16:00. Then take the free trial lesson.

The trial is sixty minutes of real teaching on your child's own paper, and it ends with the tutor writing down what they found: whether the gap is content, accuracy or timing, which topics are involved, and how many lessons that justifies. That note is the basis of any quote. A provider who quotes before diagnosing is quoting for a product rather than for your child.

Three limits, said before money changes hands. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, because home tutoring is an India-only service. Narrow combinations - 0606 or 4PM1 at a fixed hour, for example - cannot always be filled from the UAE-based pool, and when they cannot we say so and offer a specialist elsewhere at the same rate rather than substituting someone unsuitable. And no grade can be guaranteed by anyone.

On coursework and practice materials, the boundary matters. A tutor teaches method, explains what a mark scheme rewards, and gives feedback on the student's own written work. Boards' past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents are the boards' copyright: a tutor should reference and link them, not hand over a folder of reproduced material, and a provider offering a library of board documents is telling you something about how they operate.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Springs

Emirates Living is a cluster of communities with different school runs and different scheduling realities. These are the areas this page serves and what changes between them.

The Springs 1 to 5

Closest to the Al Khail Road exit, with the shortest runs to the Emirates Hills campuses. A 16:30 maths slot works here, which helps when a sibling also needs an evening.

The Springs 6 to 10

The townhouse core. Lessons usually happen at a bedroom desk, so a single decision about headphones and a second screen is worth more than any change of tutor.

The Springs 11 to 15

Last on most bus loops, which pushes weekday slots to 17:30 or later. Saturday mornings are the most reliable block here and the one that survives the examination term.

The Meadows

Adjacent villas sharing the same bus contractors, with an IB campus inside the community. A Meadows household often needs IB and IGCSE maths support in the same week for different children.

The Lakes

Smaller, long-settled and tilted towards the Emirates Hills school ring. Frequently scheduled alongside The Springs when two families share a tutor across consecutive slots.

The Views and The Greens

Apartments on the Sheikh Zayed Road edge, with Regent International School in the ring. Quiet space is tighter, so a fixed protected hour matters more than lesson length.

Emirates Hills

Shortest school run in the cluster and the highest proportion of requests for Extended and Higher tier specialists rather than general support.

Dubai Marina, JLT and JBR

Ten to twenty minutes along Sheikh Zayed Road and a frequent destination for families leaving a townhouse. A maths schedule survives the move untouched, because the lesson arrives on a screen.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and the tier

One email to the examinations officer returns a line such as Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher. Everything about the match and the price depends on that line, and it is the single cheapest piece of due diligence available.

  2. 02

    Find the marked evidence

A recent paper with marks on it, or the school's question-level analysis of a mock. Without it, any plan is guesswork and any quote is generic. With it, the first four lessons can be named before anybody pays for them.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson

Sixty minutes of teaching on your child's own paper rather than a sales call. The tutor writes down whether the problem is content, accuracy or timing, which topics are involved, and how many lessons the diagnosis justifies.

  4. 04

Agree the block and the total

A named component, a number of lessons and a total cost, or a weekly slot with a review date. Both are fine; an open-ended arrangement with no stated target is the one that quietly becomes expensive.

  5. 05

    Review against the plan

At four lessons, check what moved. Families continue, change tutor or stop. A short block that ends because the component is fixed is the outcome this is designed to produce, not a lost customer.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The syllabus code comes first

Cambridge 0580, 0607, 0606 and Pearson 4MA1, 4MB1, 4PM1 are different qualifications with different papers. Matching starts from the code on your child's entry, so nobody pays specialist rates to be prepared for the wrong paper structure.

Tier reality stated plainly

Core entry caps at grade C, Foundation at grade 5. If the tier already excludes the outcome you are paying for, a tutor should say so in the first hour rather than bill for a term of work the entry form has ruled out.

Rates quoted as the market, with sources

Every dirham band on this page names the provider or rate table that published it and the month it was read. None of them is presented as our price, so any quote you receive can be measured against the same figures.

Hours counted, not grades promised

A diagnosis produces a number of lessons and a description of what should be different at the end. No tutor can guarantee a grade, and a provider who offers one is telling you something useful about themselves.

Blocks with an endpoint

Support is sold as a named component with a stated number of lessons and a stated total wherever possible, which makes the spend auditable. Open-ended weekly arrangements are available but are reviewed rather than renewed by default.

Coverage gaps disclosed

When a request such as Additional Mathematics 0606 at a fixed hour cannot be filled from the UAE pool, we say so and offer a specialist elsewhere at the same rate. No competitor examined in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Springs: your questions answered

How do I know which maths qualification my child is actually sitting?+

Email the examinations officer and ask for the board, the code and the tier. The answer will be a short line: Cambridge 0580 Extended, Cambridge 0607 Core, Pearson 4MA1 Higher, Pearson 4MB1, and so on. It matters because these are six different qualifications with different paper counts, calculator policies and grade ranges, not variations on one syllabus. A tutor who has only ever taught one of them will prepare your child competently for the wrong paper structure, and the first time anyone notices is usually a mock.

Does Core or Foundation entry limit what tutoring can achieve?+

Yes, and this is the most important thing on the page. Cambridge 0580 Core entry makes grades C to G available and nothing higher. Pearson 4MA1 Foundation makes grades 5 to 1 available. If you are paying specialist rates in the hope of an A or a grade 7 while the school has entered your child at the lower tier, the entry form has already excluded that outcome. Ask the department which tier your child is entered at, what evidence it rests on, and when the final entry deadline falls.

What should a Springs family expect to pay per hour for IGCSE maths support?+

Published Dubai figures, read in October 2026, run as follows. Budget online tutoring is advertised from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik and AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Named specialists are AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home one-to-one, travel included, is AED 180 to 500. These are other providers' rates, quoted so you can judge any number you are given, including ours.

Why would I pay the same for an online specialist as for a tutor who drives to Emirates Living?+

Because at the same price those two things are not the same product. The in-home band of AED 180 to 500 an hour includes the journey; the online specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above includes the syllabus specialism instead. The teaching hour is sixty minutes either way. For maths specifically, a shared digital whiteboard that keeps every worked solution is more useful in March than a notebook filled in October. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so the choice we can offer is the specialism.

How many lessons does fixing the non-calculator paper usually take?+

Six to eight, plus about ten minutes of daily practice that costs nothing. The non-calculator component is not harder mathematics; it is unpractised arithmetic reasoning, and it breaks down into six skills: fraction work without decimals, index laws, surds, standard form, sensible estimation and giving exact rather than decimal answers. A tutor diagnoses which of the six is missing and marks the practice properly. A family that buys the lessons and skips the daily ten minutes has bought half the product.

Is a group IGCSE maths class in Dubai cheaper in practice?+

Per hour, yes. In practice it depends entirely on who else is in the room. A group drawn from one school, one board and one tier, all stuck on the same topic, is good value. A group advertised simply as IGCSE maths often mixes Core with Extended, Cambridge with Pearson, and two different school sequences, which produces an hour aimed at nobody precisely. For a specific diagnosed topic weakness that is the most expensive cheap option available. Ask what board and tier the other students are on before booking anything.

My child is strong in lessons and weak in maths papers. What should we actually buy?+

Not more content. That pattern is almost always timing, method selection and notation, and it is diagnosed by marking a complete paper rather than by covering more topics. The right purchase is four to six lessons built around full papers sat under timed conditions, with feedback on how the minutes were allocated against the marks available and where method choice cost time. A tutor who responds to a poor mock by re-teaching the syllabus has misread the problem and will bill for two terms.

When is the cheapest time in the course to start maths tutoring?+

Year 9, before the options evening, and almost nobody does it. Six to ten lessons on algebraic fluency, fractions, indices and rearranging formulae at that point prevents the gap that otherwise reappears in Year 11 looking like a problem with the new syllabus. The next best entry point is the autumn of Year 10, when content is still being taught for the first time and the tier decision is still movable. The most expensive is the spring of Year 11, when the whole Dubai cohort is competing for the same tutors.

Is Additional Mathematics 0606 worth taking as a fourth option?+

For a student heading to A Level mathematics or IB Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, usually yes, because it covers calculus and series that otherwise land cold in the first post-16 term. The practical caution is availability: far fewer tutors in Dubai teach 0606 or Pearson Further Pure 4PM1 than teach 0580 or 4MA1, so support should be confirmed as available before the option is taken rather than assumed. Ask the question explicitly; coverage of IGCSE maths does not imply coverage of these.

Should my child re-sit in November or wait for the next June series?+

It depends on whether a grade is needed before January. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November re-sit means roughly ten weeks of intense work while also starting post-16 courses. Waiting for the following summer gives a longer, calmer, cheaper run with one weekly slot, at the cost of a year's delay. A two-lesson diagnostic before deciding is money well spent either way.

Why do board entry deadlines matter to my tutoring plan?+

Because they close options months before the papers. A UAE candidate sits the June series or the November series, and in both cases the entry is filed long in advance: Cambridge June entries close in the spring, and Pearson's November 2026 papers, which ran to 19 November 2026, were entered earlier in the year. By the time revision feels urgent, the tier and the subject list are already fixed, so a family deciding late is choosing between marks inside a ceiling rather than choosing the ceiling. Cambridge also allocates centres to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used.

Should a maths tutor be supplying us with board past papers and mark schemes?+

A responsible one will not, and the reason is worth knowing. Past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents are the boards' copyright. A tutor should reference them, link to the official source and work through questions with your child, rather than distributing reproduced material. A provider advertising a library of board documents as a selling point is telling you how they operate. Your child's school can supply legitimate access to past material through its own board account, which is the proper route.

Does the maths tutor we hire in Dubai need to hold a permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its app and e-services. The u.ae guidance states that individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so nobody should quote you an amount.

Do maths lessons continue during Ramadan and the long summer?+

Yes, with the hour moved rather than the plan changed. School days shorten during Ramadan and the productive window shifts later, so a 17:00 slot usually becomes 20:30 or later for the month; families who arrange that in advance keep continuity rather than losing four weeks. The long summer break, from late June or early July into early September, is the only interruption-free block in a two-year course and the best time for fluency work. Lessons also continue while a family travels, since everything runs over video.

What happens if nobody is free for our code and tier at the hour we need?+

We say so. A narrow request - Cambridge 0607 Extended at a fixed half-hour on a Wednesday, or Further Pure 4PM1 at all - cannot always be filled from the UAE-based pool. The honest options are then a specialist elsewhere teaching in your Gulf Standard Time slot at the same rate, a different hour with the right person, or a wait with a realistic estimate. Filling a booked slot with an available but unsuitable tutor is how families end up paying specialist money for general help.

How will I know the money is doing anything?+

Because the plan names what should be different and when. A block starts from a marked paper, states which component it targets, how many lessons it runs for and what the endpoint looks like, and ends with a written handover. At four lessons there is a review against that plan. If nothing has moved, the right answer is a different tutor or a different diagnosis, not more of the same. Open-ended weekly arrangements with no stated target are the ones that resist this question for two terms.

Confirm the code, find the marked paper, then compare prices

Three steps before any money moves. Get the board, code and tier from the examinations officer, because that line decides who the right tutor is. Find a recent marked paper or the school's analysis of a mock, because that decides what the first four lessons do. Then take the free trial lesson and read what the tutor writes afterwards. A Springs family that works in that order usually buys fewer hours than one that starts by comparing rates, and can tell you exactly what those hours were for.
