IB Maths Tutor in The Springs

Hiring an IB maths tutor in The Springs is usually framed as a question about an hourly rate. It is really a question about how many hours, spent on what. A Diploma maths grade is built from two or three examination papers and a twelve-to-twenty-page exploration, and each of those needs a different kind of teaching. IB Gram matches one-to-one Mathematics specialists to families across Emirates Living, teaching live online in Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial lesson.

  • Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation taught separately
  • Every AED figure on this page attributed to who published it
  • Exploration support is feedback on the student's own draft only
  • Fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, same tutor each week

IB & IGCSE in The Springs

The cheapest maths tutoring is the kind that starts in the right course

Most cost conversations about Diploma mathematics start at the wrong end. A parent in The Springs asks what an hour costs, compares two quotes, and picks the cheaper one. Six months later the family has spent somewhere between AED 3,000 and AED 9,000 and the predicted grade has not moved. The money was not wasted because the rate was wrong. It was wasted because nobody established, in the first hour, which of four distinct courses the student is on and which component of the grade is actually failing.

IB Mathematics is four separate subjects wearing one name. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation each run at Standard and Higher Level, and they assess genuinely different things. A tutor who is strong on AA Higher Level proof by induction may be the wrong person for an AI Standard Level student struggling with regression and Voronoi diagrams. A Springs family that pays specialist rates for the wrong specialism gets a pleasant hour a week and no change in the mark.

The second thing that quietly decides cost is the shape of the grade. At Standard Level there are two papers weighted forty per cent each and an exploration worth twenty. At Higher Level there are three papers, weighted thirty, thirty and twenty, with the exploration again at twenty. That means a fifth of a Higher Level grade sits in a single sixty-minute paper that almost nobody prepares for properly, and another fifth sits in a document written at home with no timetabled teaching attached. Those two components are where tutoring hours have the clearest return, and they are the two most families buy last.

This page is written from cost outwards, with the figures attributed. Published Dubai market rates are set out with the provider that publishes each band, so a quote you receive from anyone can be judged against them. Where the money goes wrong in Emirates Living households is named specifically: the wrong course, the generalist maths tutor, the group class pitched at a different level, and the April start in the second year of the Diploma. None of those are rate problems.

What should also be clear from the start is how the teaching arrives. All UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai; that service exists only in India. For a maths lesson this is close to an advantage rather than a compromise: a shared digital whiteboard keeps every worked solution in one place, which a paper exercise book at a kitchen table does not, and a student revising in March can scroll back to the derivation they were shown in October.

One more framing point before the figures. Everything below is written for a family that has not yet spent anything, which is the moment when a few questions are worth more than any amount of money. By the time a Springs household is eight lessons into the wrong arrangement, the sunk cost makes it harder to stop, and the second-year calendar makes it harder to switch. The order matters: establish the route, find the failing component, then compare rates.

  • Lessons are delivered online one-to-one; no UAE home visits are offered
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Springs household buying maths support is usually at one of three points: approaching the Diploma, inside it, or about to be assessed by it. The money behaves differently at each point, so the stages are worth separating.

MYP5Ages 15-16 · Final pre-Diploma year

MYP 5 or Year 11 into the Diploma

The cheapest maths intervention available, and the one almost nobody buys. Six to ten lessons across the summer before DP1 close the algebraic-fluency gap that otherwise costs an entire first term. Students arriving from MYP criterion assessment or from IGCSE 0580 both need this, but for different reasons.

Emirates Living feeds both IB and British campuses, so Springs students enter DP1 from two different places. An MYP 5 student has done investigations and criterion marking but may have thin procedural fluency. An IGCSE 0580 Extended student has strong procedure and no experience of an extended piece of independent mathematical writing.

DP1Ages 16-17 · DP1

IB Diploma Year 1

The year where the route decision becomes irreversible and the exploration should start. Spending here is low-intensity and high-return: one weekly slot that keeps pace with the school, plus a short block in the summer term to choose and scope the exploration topic before it becomes urgent.

DP1 is also when a Springs family discovers whether the school's set placement matches the student. Moving from Higher to Standard Level is usually possible early in DP1 and progressively harder after that, and it is a decision worth taking with a tutor's diagnostic rather than on a single test result.

DP2Ages 17-18 · DP2

IB Diploma Year 2

The expensive year, because demand spikes across Dubai and because families arrive late. Hours here go on examination technique, Paper 3 at Higher Level, and finishing the exploration properly. Content teaching is still possible but costs more per mark gained than the same teaching twelve months earlier.

The exploration deadline set by a Dubai school usually sits well before the external deadline, because the school needs time to authenticate and mark internally. Ask for that internal date in September of DP2 and work backwards from it rather than from anything published by the IB.

POSTAges 18+ · University entry

After the Diploma

Where the route choice is finally priced. Engineering, physics and mathematics programmes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level; business, economics and social-science programmes more often accept Applications and Interpretation. The requirement belongs to the individual programme, not to the country.

Check the named programme's own admissions page rather than a general statement about the UAE or the UK, because requirements differ between universities and between faculties inside one university. A student who needs AA and is sitting AI should find out in DP1, when a change is still practical.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma mathematics is five topic areas plus a toolkit, and the cost of help varies sharply between them. These are the areas Springs families most often ask about, with what each one actually rewards.

Number and algebra

AA and AI, SL and HL

Sequences, series, exponents and logarithms at both levels; binomial theorem, proof by induction, complex numbers and partial fractions at AA Higher Level. Weak algebraic fluency here shows up as lost marks in every other topic, which is why diagnostics almost always start with it.

Functions

AA and AI, SL and HL

Transformations, rational functions, inverse and composite functions. AA Higher Level adds a much heavier algebraic load. Students who can sketch a graph on a calculator but cannot reason about a function without one lose marks on the non-calculator paper.

Geometry and trigonometry

AA and AI, SL and HL

Trigonometric identities and equations in AA; three-dimensional geometry, Voronoi diagrams and graph theory in AI. Vectors sit at Higher Level in both routes with different emphases. This is where mark loss is most often about unit and diagram discipline rather than understanding.

Statistics and probability

AA and AI, SL and HL

Core to AI at both levels and lighter in AA. Binomial and normal distributions, regression, correlation and hypothesis testing. AI Higher Level students need confident calculator work plus the ability to interpret what the output means in context, which is where most of the marks actually sit.

Calculus

AA and AI, SL and HL

Differentiation and integration, with AA Higher Level extending into Maclaurin series, implicit differentiation and differential equations. The commonest expensive gap in DP2: a student who can differentiate but cannot choose a technique under time pressure.

The toolkit and mathematical inquiry

AA and AI, SL and HL

The modelling and investigation strand that underpins the exploration. Rarely timetabled as its own lesson, which is exactly why it is worth tutoring hours. Learning to pose a question that can be answered mathematically is the skill the exploration criteria reward most.

The exploration

AA and AI, SL and HL

A twelve-to-twenty-page independent piece worth twenty per cent of the final grade in every route. Assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. A tutor may coach the process and give feedback; the mathematics and the writing must be the student's own.

Higher Level Paper 3

AA HL and AI HL

Two extended response questions in sixty minutes, worth twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade. It rewards sustained reasoning across a structured investigation rather than recall. Most students meet their first full Paper 3 weeks before the examination, which is late.

Graphic display calculator skills

AA and AI, SL and HL

A graded expectation rather than a convenience. AI requires calculator fluency on every paper; AA requires it on Paper 2 only, which means AA students must be able to work without one on Paper 1. Technology marks are among the cheapest to recover.

Mathematical communication and notation

AA and AI, SL and HL

Correct notation, defined variables, labelled diagrams and stated units. Worth a criterion of its own in the exploration and quietly worth marks in every paper. A student losing two or three marks a paper on notation is losing a grade boundary to something fixable in four lessons.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of maths support, priced differently because they consume different amounts of time. The right one depends on which component of the grade is failing, not on the budget.

One weekly slot, keeping pace

Sixty or ninety minutes a week alongside the school's scheme of work, used to consolidate what was taught that week before the gap compounds. The least expensive way to protect a Diploma maths grade, and the one that only works if it starts in DP1 rather than DP2.

  • Fixed day and time held for the term
  • Follows the school's own sequence, not a parallel syllabus
  • Written note after each lesson of what was covered
  • Lowest total cost per mark gained of the three options

A targeted block on one component

Six to ten lessons aimed at a single named weakness: Paper 1 without a calculator, calculus technique selection, or Higher Level Paper 3. Priced as a block so the total is known in advance, and ended when the component is fixed rather than renewed by default.

  • One diagnosed component, not general catch-up
  • Total cost agreed before the first lesson
  • Works in half terms and study leave
  • Ends with a written handover of what remains

Exploration process coaching

Three to five sessions spread across the exploration: choosing a question that can be answered mathematically, scoping the mathematics to the right level, and reviewing the student's own drafts against the criteria. Feedback only, never authorship.

  • Topic scoping before the school's internal deadline
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's draft
  • No part of the document written by the tutor
  • Usually the cheapest twenty per cent of the grade to defend

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the decision that costs most to get wrong

A Springs family paying for maths support before checking which route their child is on is buying blind, and this is the commonest expensive error in the cluster. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-oriented. Applications and Interpretation is modelling, statistical and calculator-led. The content overlap is real but the emphasis is not, and a tutor who teaches one fluently can be mediocre in the other.

The route also prices itself differently. An AA Higher Level student typically needs more hours than an AI Standard Level student, because the algebraic load is heavier and the non-calculator paper removes the safety net. An AI Higher Level student needs fewer content hours but more time on interpretation: writing a sentence that says what a regression coefficient means in context is worth marks that fluent calculator work alone will not earn.

Where the decision becomes a financial one is the post-Diploma requirement. Engineering, physics and mathematics programmes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level; business, economics and many social-science programmes accept Applications and Interpretation. That requirement belongs to the individual programme, so it has to be read on that programme's own admissions page rather than inferred. A student who discovers in DP2 that they need AA while sitting AI has almost no good options left.

There is a diagnostic shortcut for a parent who is not sure which course their child is in. Look at a recent paper: if one of them was sat without a calculator, the student is on Analysis and Approaches. If every question assumed a graphic display calculator and several asked what a result means in a real context, it is Applications and Interpretation. The school will confirm it in a sentence, and the answer changes who you should be paying.

The table compares the two on the dimensions that actually change the tutoring bill, rather than restating the subject guide.

What Diploma maths support costs around Emirates Living, counted monthly

Start from the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the number a household budget actually feels. Bestimate's Dubai rate table for 2026 puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at AED 240 to 600 a month in the budget band, AED 600 to 1,200 in the mid band, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages visible in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Converted to hours, the published bands look like this. Budget online tutoring, generally a university student working from a textbook, is advertised by EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 an hour and by Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors teaching online sit between AED 150 and 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IB specialists run AED 200 to 450 or above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate showing 200 to 450 and beyond. Premium and examiner-branded tutoring reaches AED 500 to 650 or more, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home one-to-one, travel included, is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at 180 to 350.

The arithmetic a Springs parent should do is total cost per mark, not rate per hour. Twenty-four lessons at AED 180 with the wrong specialism costs AED 4,320 and moves nothing. Eight lessons at AED 300 aimed at Higher Level Paper 3 and the exploration costs AED 2,400 and addresses forty per cent of the grade. The second is both cheaper and more useful, and the only way to tell them apart in advance is a diagnostic.

These figures are other providers' published rates, read in October 2026, and are reproduced so a family can judge any quote. They are not IB Gram's price list. Our own conversation starts with a free trial lesson and an honest view of how many hours the diagnosis actually justifies.

Where the marks actually sit, and what an hour buys in each place

A Diploma maths grade is not one thing, so tutoring hours do not buy the same amount of grade everywhere. At Standard Level there are two papers at forty per cent each plus the exploration at twenty. At Higher Level there are three papers weighted thirty, thirty and twenty, with the exploration again at twenty. Paper durations differ too: ninety minutes each at Standard Level, two hours each for Higher Level Papers 1 and 2, and sixty minutes for Higher Level Paper 3.

Read that structure as a shopping list. Non-calculator technique affects forty per cent of an AA Standard Level grade through Paper 1 alone, and it is highly trainable. Technology fluency affects every paper in AI and only Paper 2 in AA. Extended reasoning across an unfamiliar structured investigation affects a fifth of a Higher Level grade and is the component with the thinnest classroom coverage anywhere.

The pattern that repeats across Emirates Living households is a student who is fine in class and loses marks in papers. That is almost never a content problem. It is technique selection, time allocation and notation, and it is diagnosed by marking a full paper properly rather than by covering more topics. A tutor who responds to a poor Paper 2 by re-teaching calculus has misread the problem and will bill for a term.

Weightings and durations should be confirmed against the current subject guide for your child's examination session, because the IB revises course structures periodically and this page does not publish IB dates it cannot verify.

The exploration: a fifth of the grade with no timetabled teacher

Every Diploma maths student writes an exploration, and it is worth twenty per cent of the final grade in all four routes. It runs to roughly twelve to twenty pages, is chosen by the student, and is written largely outside lessons. That combination makes it the single most reliable place for a Springs family to spend money, and the place most families spend it last.

The marks are allocated by criterion, and knowing the allocation changes how a student works. Presentation carries four marks and rewards a coherent, organised piece rather than a decorated one. Mathematical communication carries four and is where notation, defined variables and consistent symbols earn or lose. Personal engagement carries three and rewards genuine ownership of the question. Reflection carries three and is the criterion most students treat as a concluding paragraph when it should run throughout. Use of mathematics carries six and is the only one where the level and accuracy of the mathematics itself is judged.

Two patterns account for most low exploration marks in Dubai cohorts. The first is a topic chosen because it sounds interesting rather than because it contains answerable mathematics, which caps use of mathematics no matter how well the writing goes. The second is a draft produced in the last fortnight, which makes reflection impossible to evidence because there was no process to reflect on. Both are fixed by starting in DP1, and three sessions at that stage are worth more than ten in DP2.

The boundary here is not negotiable. A tutor may discuss topic choice, explain what each criterion rewards, and give written feedback on a draft the student has produced. A tutor must never write the exploration, supply mathematics for the student to copy, or edit the document to completion. Providers in this market sell completed Internal Assessments; that is a malpractice exposure for the student, not a service.

05

Higher Level Paper 3 and the hours it genuinely needs

  • Sixty minutes, two extended questions, twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade
  • Draws on the whole course, so it cannot be revised topic by topic
  • Four to six focused lessons is the usual effective dose
  • Best timed to the spring term of DP2, after mock results

Higher Level students sit a third paper of sixty minutes carrying twenty per cent of the grade, built from two extended response questions. It is not a harder version of Paper 1. It is a structured investigation: a scenario is introduced, early parts establish a result, and later parts require the student to use that result in a way they were not shown. Recall contributes almost nothing.

Schools cover it unevenly for an understandable reason. Paper 3 cannot be taught topic by topic, because its content is drawn from the whole course and its difficulty is in the sustained reasoning. A department teaching a two-year syllabus to a deadline reaches it late, which means a great many Higher Level students in Dubai attempt their first complete Paper 3 within six weeks of the real one.

Four to six lessons change that materially, and they are the clearest value in the whole Higher Level budget. The work is specific: reading a long stem and extracting what is actually being asked, carrying notation forward consistently through a multi-part question, allocating minutes per part against the marks available, and recognising when an earlier result is being handed to you for later use. None of that is content revision, and content revision will not produce it.

The right time to start is the spring term of DP2, after the mocks have identified whether Paper 3 is a weakness, and before the final revision crush makes everything compete for the same evenings. A Springs family spending a fixed block on this rather than another term of general lessons typically spends less and gains more.

06

Three ways maths money is wasted in Emirates Living households

  • Ask which route and level the tutor has taught to examination, and what criterion E rewards
  • Avoid mixed-route group classes when the gap is topic-specific
  • A single weekly DP1 slot usually costs less in total than a DP2 rescue block
  • Homework supervision and subject specialism are different products at different prices

The first is the generalist. A tutor advertised as a maths tutor in Dubai may be excellent with IGCSE 0580 and genuinely unfamiliar with the structure of a Diploma exploration or with AI Higher Level graph theory. Parents discover this around lesson eight, by which point AED 1,500 to 2,500 has gone. The preventive question is specific: which route and level have you taught to examination, and what does criterion E reward? A vague answer is the answer.

The second is the group class pitched at the wrong level. Group tuition is cheaper per hour and can work well where a cohort shares the same gap. In practice a Dubai group advertised for IB maths often mixes AA and AI, Standard and Higher, and two different school sequences, which produces an hour of content that fits nobody precisely. For a student who is behind on one specific topic, a group class is the most expensive cheap option available.

The third is starting in April of DP2. By then the route, the set and the exploration are all fixed, the whole cohort in Dubai is competing for the same tutors, and the only honest offer is focused work on a handful of high-yield components. That can move a borderline grade. It cannot replace two years, and nobody should promise it will. A family that starts a single weekly slot in DP1 almost always spends less in total than one that buys an intensive rescue in the final term.

A fourth pattern is worth naming briefly: paying specialist rates for homework supervision. If what a household actually needs is somebody to make sure the work gets done at 17:00, that is a different and much cheaper product than a subject specialist, and conflating the two inflates the bill without improving the mark.

07

Verifying the tutor, and who is allowed to teach privately in the UAE

Before money changes hands there are two checks worth making, and neither takes long. The first is legal. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time and an application route through its app, website and e-services. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

The second check is ethical and specific to schools. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the current policy document, so verify it against the authority's own publication. The practical point stands in Dubai too: hiring your child's own classroom teacher privately is the arrangement most likely to create a problem for everyone.

Neither check says anything about teaching quality, which is why a third question matters more than both. Ask the tutor to describe, for your child's exact route and level, where students most often lose marks and what the first four lessons would do about it. A specialist answers in specifics within thirty seconds. Nobody can be accredited by the IB as a tutor, and any provider claiming board approval is making a claim worth questioning closely.

IB Gram holds no regulator or examination-board accreditation and does not present itself as holding one. What the platform does is match, disclose and then get out of the way of the teaching.

Starting maths support from The Springs, and what the first hour should produce

  • Route, level and set confirmed before any match is made
  • The school's internal exploration deadline drives the plan
  • Free trial lesson producing a written diagnosis, not a quote
  • Coverage limits and the online-only model stated before payment

The first hour should end with a diagnosis written down, not with a package sold. Which route and level, which component of the grade is actually weak, and whether the cause is content, technique or timing. Those three causes need different lesson plans and different numbers of hours, and a provider who cannot tell you which one applies after sixty minutes with your child is not in a position to quote.

Practically, the sequence from a Springs household is short. Confirm the route and level from the school, including the set and any pending change. Name the school's internal exploration deadline if the student is in DP1 or DP2, because that date governs the whole plan. Pick the slot the week can actually hold, which for most of this community is 17:00 on a weekday or a Saturday morning. Then take the free trial lesson and read what the tutor writes afterwards.

Three limits, stated before payment rather than after. Teaching is one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, because that service exists only in India. A narrow combination of route, level and hour cannot always be filled from the UAE-based pool, and when it cannot we say so and offer a specialist elsewhere at the same rate rather than filling the slot with the wrong person. And no tutor can guarantee a grade in any subject; a provider offering one is telling you something useful about themselves.

On the exploration, the line again: coaching on process, explanation of the criteria, and feedback on the student's own drafts. A tutor must never write the exploration. That boundary is a feature of honest tutoring rather than a limitation of it, because the alternative puts the entire Diploma at risk over twenty per cent of one subject.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Springs

Emirates Living is a cluster rather than a single neighbourhood, and the practical details that affect a maths slot change between its parts. These are the areas this page serves.

The Springs 1 to 5

Nearest the Al Khail Road exit, with shorter school runs to the Emirates Hills campuses. A 16:30 maths slot is realistic here, which matters in DP2 when a second subject also needs an evening.

The Springs 6 to 10

The townhouse core, where the lesson usually happens at a bedroom desk rather than in a study. Headphones and a second screen for the whiteboard are worth more here than any change of tutor.

The Springs 11 to 15

Last on most bus loops, so families here more often take a 17:30 weekday slot or a Saturday morning block. Saturday mornings are the most reliable ninety minutes for exploration work.

The Meadows

Villas directly adjacent, with Emirates International School Meadows inside the community. Many of the Diploma mathematics students in this cluster are on its roll, so set changes and internal deadlines follow one calendar.

The Lakes and The Views

Smaller communities on the Emirates Living edge, often with longer-settled families and a tilt towards the Emirates Hills ring. Frequently scheduled alongside The Springs for sibling pairs.

The Greens

Apartments rather than townhouses, with Regent International School in the ring. Study space is tighter, and a fixed quiet hour matters more than lesson length for a DP1 student.

Emirates Hills

Shortest school run in the cluster and the highest concentration of requests for Higher Level specialists. Families here are also most likely to be weighing AA Higher Level against AA Standard Level in DP1.

Dubai Marina and JLT

A common destination when a family leaves a townhouse for an apartment. Nothing in a maths schedule changes on the move, because the lesson arrives on a screen rather than in a car.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Springs

IB campuses serving Emirates Living

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Confirm the route and level

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher, plus the current set and whether a change is under discussion. This single line determines which specialist is the right one, and getting it wrong is the most expensive error available.

  2. 02

    Name the weak component

Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3 or the exploration. A recent paper with marks on it, or the school's question-level analysis of a mock, turns a vague request into a four-lesson plan with a measurable endpoint.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson

Sixty minutes working through real questions in the student's own route, after which the tutor writes down what they saw: content gaps, technique selection, timing or notation. That note is the basis of the quote, not the other way round.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the total

A weekly slot the Springs week can genuinely hold, or a block with the number of lessons and the total cost agreed up front. Exploration coaching is scheduled against the school's internal deadline rather than the external one.

  5. 05

    Review at four lessons

What moved, what did not, and whether the diagnosis was right. Families continue, change tutor, or stop. Stopping at four lessons because the problem turned out to be smaller than expected is a good outcome, not a failed sale.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Route-specific specialists, not maths tutors

Matching starts from AA or AI and Standard or Higher Level, because the two Higher Level courses need genuinely different people. A tutor who claims equal strength in both is describing a marketing position rather than a teaching history.

Every figure on this page is attributed

Each AED band names the provider or rate table that published it and the month it was read. Nothing is presented as IB Gram's price, and nothing is an estimate dressed as a fact, so any quote you receive can be measured against the same numbers.

The exploration is treated as a fifth of the grade

Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own drafts, scheduled against the school's internal deadline. Coaching and feedback only; the mathematics and the writing stay the student's, which is what keeps the qualification safe.

Paper 3 is planned, not discovered

Higher Level students get dedicated work on sustained reasoning and time allocation across two extended investigations, timed to the spring term of DP2 rather than to the fortnight before the paper.

Slots built for the Emirates Living clock

Scheduling starts from when the bus actually reaches your part of The Springs. A 17:00 weekday slot and a Saturday morning block are the two arrangements that survive a Dubai exam term intact.

Coverage limits said out loud

When a specific route, level and hour cannot be filled from the UAE pool, we say so and offer a specialist elsewhere at the same rate. No competitor examined in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Springs: your questions answered

Our school offers both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation. Which costs less to support?+

Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is usually the lighter commitment, because the algebraic load is smaller and a calculator is available throughout. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level typically needs the most hours: heavier algebra, proof by induction, complex numbers and a non-calculator Paper 1 with no safety net. Cost should still not drive the choice. If the programme your child wants specifies Analysis and Approaches, sitting the cheaper course is the most expensive decision in the whole plan. Read the named programme's admissions page before weighing tutoring hours.

How many hours of IB maths tutoring does a Springs student usually end up buying?+

It varies with where the weakness sits rather than with the student. A DP1 student keeping pace with one weekly slot across a school year is looking at roughly thirty lessons. A DP2 student buying a targeted block on Higher Level Paper 3 plus exploration feedback is looking at ten to fifteen. The families who spend most are those who start general lessons in the spring of DP2, because that buys the largest number of hours at the lowest return. A diagnostic in the first hour is what separates the two patterns.

Why does the exploration matter so much to what we spend?+

Because it is twenty per cent of the final grade, it is written largely outside lessons, and no teacher is timetabled to supervise it closely. That makes it the component where a small number of well-timed sessions changes the most. Three sessions in DP1 on scoping a question that can carry course-level mathematics are worth more than ten sessions in DP2 trying to rescue a topic that cannot. The marks are split across five criteria, and the one worth six marks depends almost entirely on a decision taken at the start.

Is a group IB maths class in Dubai better value than one-to-one?+

Only when the group genuinely shares your child's gap. Group tuition is cheaper per hour, and for a cohort from one school all sitting the same route at the same level it can work well. The common Dubai reality is a group advertised for IB maths that mixes Analysis and Approaches with Applications and Interpretation, Standard with Higher, and two school sequences, producing an hour that fits nobody precisely. For a specific topic weakness that is the most expensive cheap option available. Ask what route and level the other students are on before booking.

What is Higher Level Paper 3 and should we pay for help with it?+

It is a sixty-minute paper of two extended response questions carrying twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade. It draws on the whole course and tests sustained reasoning through a structured investigation rather than recall, which is why it cannot be revised topic by topic. Many Dubai students attempt their first complete Paper 3 within six weeks of the real one. Four to six focused lessons on reading long stems, carrying notation through multi-part questions and allocating minutes against marks is usually the clearest value in a Higher Level budget.

My child is fine in class and loses marks in maths papers. What is that worth fixing?+

A great deal, and it is usually cheaper than it sounds. That pattern is almost never a content problem. It is technique selection under time pressure, minute allocation across a paper, and notation. Those are diagnosed by marking a complete paper properly rather than by covering more topics, and they respond to a short focused block rather than a term of lessons. A tutor whose answer to a poor Paper 2 is to re-teach calculus has misread the problem and will bill for months without touching the cause.

Can a tutor at AED 60 an hour teach Diploma maths properly?+

Sometimes, for a narrow job. The published budget band, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, generally buys a university student working from a textbook. That can be genuinely useful for consolidating Standard Level content a student half-understands. What it rarely buys is route-specific Higher Level teaching, exploration criterion knowledge or Paper 3 technique, because those require someone who has taught the course to examination. Pay the budget rate for the budget job and do not expect the specialist outcome from it.

Does an in-home maths tutor in Dubai teach better than an online one?+

The published rates suggest you are paying for the journey rather than the teaching. In-home one-to-one in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate at 180 to 350, while named online specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above. At the same price you are choosing between proximity and subject specialism. For maths specifically, a shared digital whiteboard that keeps every worked solution is more useful than a kitchen table. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case.

When in the Diploma should a Springs family start paying for maths help?+

The summer before DP1 is the cheapest useful moment, and almost nobody uses it. Six to ten lessons then close the algebraic-fluency gap that otherwise costs a whole first term, whether the student is arriving from MYP criterion assessment or from IGCSE 0580 Extended. The next best is early DP1, with one weekly slot keeping pace. The most expensive entry point is April of DP2, when the route and the exploration are fixed and the whole Dubai cohort is competing for the same tutors.

How is the maths exploration marked, criterion by criterion?+

Five criteria totalling twenty marks. Presentation carries four and rewards a coherent argument rather than decoration. Mathematical communication carries four, covering notation, defined variables and labelled graphs. Personal engagement carries three and rewards genuine ownership of the question. Reflection carries three and should run through the piece rather than sit in a final paragraph. Use of mathematics carries six and is the only criterion judging the mathematics itself, which is why the topic choice decides the ceiling. Confirm the current allocation against your child's subject guide.

Can a tutor help write the maths exploration if my child is stuck?+

A tutor must never write any part of it. What is legitimate is discussing whether a topic can carry course-level mathematics, explaining what each criterion rewards, and giving written feedback on a draft the student has produced themselves. That is teaching. Providers in this market openly sell completed Internal Assessments, and buying one risks a malpractice finding against your child rather than a better grade. Ask any prospective tutor where they draw this line; a vague answer tells you what you need to know.

Can one tutor teach maths and physics for the same Diploma student?+

Often yes, and it can reduce the total bill, because the mathematical technique in Higher Level physics overlaps heavily with Analysis and Approaches. Where it breaks down is when both subjects are at Higher Level and both are weak for different reasons, since the physics investigation and the maths exploration are separate pieces of assessed work with separate criteria. In a Springs household the practical arrangement is often two consecutive slots on one evening, which keeps the rest of the week free.

Do maths lessons keep running through Ramadan and the summer break?+

Yes, with the time moved rather than the plan. During Ramadan school hours shorten and the productive window shifts later, so a 17:00 slot typically becomes 20:30 or later for the month; families who arrange that in advance keep continuity instead of losing four weeks. The long summer, from late June or early July into early September, is the only interruption-free block in a two-year course and the best time for bridging work or for scoping an exploration. Lessons also continue while a family travels.

What should I ask a prospective IB maths tutor in the first five minutes?+

Four questions. Which route and level have you taught to examination? What does criterion E of the exploration reward, and how do students lose it? What does Higher Level Paper 3 ask for that Paper 1 does not? And given this marked paper, what would the first four lessons cover? A specialist answers all four in specifics within a couple of minutes. Anyone who answers in general terms about confidence and foundations is describing a sales position rather than a teaching history.

Will you put the IB examination dates on this page so I can plan backwards?+

No, and the reason is worth stating. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Publishing a date we cannot verify across a large set of pages would eventually mislead somebody at the worst possible moment. UAE schools sit the May session; for the exact window, ask your school's IB coordinator or check ibo.org directly. The date that actually governs your plan is the school's internal exploration deadline, which the coordinator can give you today.

What if no specialist is free for our route, level and time slot?+

We tell you rather than filling the slot. A narrow combination - Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, say, at a fixed half-hour on a Tuesday - cannot always be matched from the UAE-based pool. The options then are a specialist elsewhere teaching in your Gulf Standard Time slot at the same rate, a different hour with the right person, or an honest wait with an estimate. Putting an available but unsuitable tutor into a booked slot is how families end up paying specialist rates for the wrong specialism.

Diagnose first, then decide how many hours to buy

Before comparing rates, get three facts straight: which Mathematics route and level your child is on, which component of the grade is actually weak, and what the school's internal exploration deadline is. Then take the free trial lesson. Sixty minutes with a route-specific specialist and a recent marked paper produces a written diagnosis, and that diagnosis is what tells you whether you are buying thirty lessons or eight. Families who do this in that order usually spend less in total than those who start with a price comparison, and they can see what the money bought.
