IGCSE Home Tutor in The Valley

Searching for an IGCSE home tutor in The Valley usually means weighing this community against the ones nearby: which schools are reachable, which exam board they enter, and whether a tutor will realistically drive out along the Al Ain road at five in the afternoon. This page answers all three, compares Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel for a parent choosing a tutor, and prices the alternatives honestly. IB Gram delivers one-to-one IGCSE tuition to The Valley live online rather than at your door.

  • Matched to a syllabus code and tier, not to a subject name

IB & IGCSE in The Valley

Two directions, several schools, and two different exam boards

The Valley sits at the southern edge of Dubai along the road to Al Ain, and at the time of writing it has no school inside its own boundary. Every school run from here goes outward, in one of two broad directions: towards Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City and Nad Al Sheba, or across the Dubailand corridor towards Arabian Ranches and Mira. That produces a situation families in older communities do not face — the neighbours' children are at different schools, on different assessment calendars, and sometimes on different exam boards entirely.

For IGCSE that last point is the one that costs money. Cambridge International Mathematics is 0580; the Pearson Edexcel equivalent is 4MA1. They are separate qualifications with separate paper structures, separate tiering conventions and, in the current Cambridge specification, different calculator arrangements. Past papers are not interchangeable. A parent in The Valley who assumes the board from a neighbour's conversation can easily buy a tutor who teaches the wrong specification, and the first two sessions are then spent on the wrong question style.

The second thing this community changes is time. Adding a commute at both ends of a full school day pushes the first realistic session to about half past five for a secondary student. That matters for a Year 11 student who has mock examinations in view, because a slot agreed at four in the afternoon because it sounds better will be abandoned inside a fortnight. The structures that survive here are one protected weekday evening and a weekend block, not two weekday hours.

The honest answer on home tutoring itself begins with published figures. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are advertised at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. For a community at the city's southern edge, a good part of that gap is a long peak-direction drive rather than a difference in teaching. It also shows up as a two-hour minimum booking and as cancellations when the road fails.

So, stated before anything else: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and nobody will arrive at an address in The Valley. Lessons are one-to-one and live over video, with past-paper questions on screen, a shared whiteboard and an optional recording. Household visits exist in our India operation only. What the model buys here is a tutor chosen for the syllabus code your child sits rather than for a willingness to drive the Al Ain road at five in the afternoon. It also removes the two unpaid journeys at either end of a visit, which is what makes an early-evening start possible at all in a household where the school run has already taken an hour out of the day.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Families here are at one of three points, and in a community where children attend several different schools the right question is which stage your own child is at rather than what the neighbourhood is doing.

PREAges 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, before the course begins

Nothing is externally assessed, so the gaps that matter later are invisible. The ones that cost IGCSE marks are specific and narrow: rearranging a formula, handling negatives and fractions, reading a question closely enough to notice what it asks, and writing an explanation that gives a reason. All are cheap to close at this stage.

The Valley fills largely with families moving within Dubai or arriving in the emirate, which means mid-phase school changes are common. A child joining a British-curriculum school in Year 9 from another system usually has two or three specific missing topics rather than a general weakness, and a diagnostic before the IGCSE course starts is the cheapest intervention available.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, the first IGCSE year

Content arrives for the first time and coursework begins in some subjects. Internal examinations at the end of the year feed tier and entry decisions for Year 11. The signal that something has slipped is precise: a student who cannot do last term's work now, rather than one finding this term's work hard.

Because Valley students attend several different schools, the point at which tier decisions are taken varies between households in the same street. A family hoping to keep Extended or Higher tier open in a subject should ask its own school when entries close rather than assuming the neighbourhood timetable applies to them.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the examination year

One mock block, entry deadlines months ahead of the papers, predicted grades drawn from the mocks, then study leave and the series. Both boards report on the 9 to 1 scale. Nearly all measurable improvement in this year comes from technique rather than new content, because technique is what has not been practised.

The commute is the practical constraint for Year 11 students here. A protected weekday evening slot plus a weekend block for whole papers is the structure that lasts; two weekday hours in a commuting household usually ends with the second being cancelled and the between-session work left undone.

POSTAges 16+

After the results

IGCSE grades act as thresholds for A Level or IB Higher Level study, and schools set their own requirements, often per subject rather than overall. A student heading for a mathematics-heavy route needs one named grade in one named subject, which is a far narrower and cheaper target than lifting a whole profile.

For UAE university plans, Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects. Verify current rules on moe.gov.ae.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects Valley families ask about most, with syllabus codes where they help and the specific failure that recurs. Booking against a named paper and a named weakness is faster than booking against a subject.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580; Pearson 4MA1

Method marks sit on nearly every multi-step question and students who write only an answer forfeit them. Algebraic manipulation is the bottleneck far more often than any single topic, and the current Cambridge specification includes assessment without a calculator.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Circuits, moments and equilibrium questions are where higher-tier candidates reliably drop marks. A large share of physics losses are mathematical rather than scientific, which is a diagnosable distinction from a marked paper.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles and reacting-mass calculations cost the most marks, followed by qualitative analysis answers written imprecisely. Students who learn ionic equations as patterns rather than recipes handle unfamiliar questions considerably better.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Volume rather than difficulty is the problem and terminology precision decides the band. Osmosis answers lose marks for omitting concentration gradient; enzyme answers lose them for saying killed rather than denatured.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and the extended response carry most of the marks, and the recurring failure is strong writing in the wrong register for the stated audience. Reading questions need quotation plus comment, never quotation alone.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A separate qualification from English Language with different papers, and an incorrect entry costs far more than a few marks. Listening and speaking components need rehearsal rather than revision, and accuracy outranks ambitious vocabulary.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455; Pearson 4BS1 and 4ET1

Command terms govern the ceiling more than content does. An answer that explains where the question said evaluate caps itself whatever its accuracy. Ratio and elasticity calculations need drilling separately from the written responses.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Algorithm and pseudocode questions reward a consistent, legible convention more than clever code. The ICT practical component is a skills examination and improves with repetition rather than with reading about it.

Arabic and the UAE mandatory subjects

First language and additional language

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. These grades sit beside IGCSE subjects on the report and often slip for mid-phase arrivals.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three structures, chosen by year group and by how long the school day actually is. In a commuting community the structure matters as much as the tutor.

Year 10 weekly, one protected evening

A single slot at 5.30pm or later through the first IGCSE year, tracking the school's own topic order. This is the cheapest useful tutoring available, because fixing algebraic fluency or calculation layout before it meets examination questions costs a fraction of unpicking it under deadline pressure a year later.

  • One slot held weekly in Gulf Standard Time, after the commute
  • Work sequenced against the school's scheme rather than a parallel course
  • Tier readiness reviewed before internal Year 10 examinations
  • Free trial lesson before anything is booked

A Year 11 weekend block

Ninety minutes or two hours at the weekend, used for whole papers under timing and mark-scheme dissection. Whole-paper work needs uninterrupted time, which in a household with a long school run genuinely exists only on Saturday or Sunday rather than on a weekday evening.

  • Full papers under timing, then reviewed question by question
  • Lost marks classified by reason rather than counted
  • Pacing practised as time per mark
  • Sits alongside or instead of a weekday slot

A short board-and-gap diagnostic

Two or three sessions to establish the syllabus code, the tier, and what is actually costing marks, after which a family decides whether to continue. Used most often by households who have tried general support that changed nothing and want a specific answer before committing another term.

  • Syllabus code and tier confirmed before any teaching
  • Timed questions from the first session rather than content review
  • A written statement of what is and is not achievable in the time
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Valley

01

Establish the board before you book anybody

In a community where children attend schools in two different directions, this is the single most useful piece of administration a parent can do. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel are separate qualifications. Cambridge mathematics is 0580 with Core and Extended tiers; the Pearson equivalent is 4MA1 with Foundation and Higher tiers and two two-hour papers of 100 marks each. The sciences follow the same pattern: 0610, 0620 and 0625 against 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1.

The practical differences are not cosmetic. Cambridge papers tend to carry more, shorter questions moving quickly between topics, which penalises a student slow to switch context. Pearson papers more often build several parts on one scenario, which penalises a student who loses the thread between parts. The current Cambridge specification includes assessment without a calculator, while Pearson permits one throughout its two papers. A student revising from the wrong board's past papers is practising the wrong skill.

Ask the school's examinations officer rather than the subject teacher, and ask for the code rather than the subject name. It takes a day to establish and it determines which past papers every session uses for the next two years. In The Valley specifically, do not infer the board from a neighbour: the child next door may be at a school in an entirely different direction, entered for an entirely different specification in the same subject. The table below is the short version to take into that conversation with the school.

02

What the two school-run directions do to a tutoring plan

This is the comparison that actually applies to The Valley, because it is the one that decides whether a session happens at all. Families travelling towards Silicon Oasis, Academic City or Nad Al Sheba face one set of timings; families crossing the Dubailand corridor towards Arabian Ranches or Mira face another. Both are long at four in the afternoon, and both mean a student is home later than the school day's published end time suggests.

The consequence is structural rather than motivational. A Year 11 student who arrives home at a quarter past five has perhaps forty minutes before a tutoring session becomes an imposition rather than an opportunity, and in a household with siblings on different runs the practical window is narrower still. Plans that assume a 4pm start in this community are not optimistic; they are describing a different neighbourhood. The honest planning position is one weekday evening and a weekend block.

There is one upside worth naming. Because the weekday window is tight, families here tend to use weekends properly, and weekend sessions suit the highest-value IGCSE work: whole papers under timing, mark-scheme dissection, and practical paper practice. A student who does one weekday hour on content and one weekend block on papers is running a better programme than a student in a shorter-commute community doing two unfocused weekday hours. The table sets out what each direction of travel does to the evening, so a family can place itself rather than generalise.

03

The in-home premium, taken apart

Most providers fold travel into the hourly rate without mentioning it, which makes an in-home quote look like a premium for quality when a good part of it is a premium for distance. The published Dubai in-home band is AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors AED 200 to AED 500. A qualified subject tutor working online is published at AED 150 to AED 300, and budget online tutoring at AED 33 to AED 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65.

For a community at the southern edge of the city the gap is mostly the journey, and it shows up in three further ways. A tutor making a long round trip will reasonably want a two-hour minimum, so a family needing one focused hour buys two. They will want the slot that suits their route rather than your child's concentration. And when the road fails the session is cancelled rather than shortened. Those are consequences of distance, not failings, and a parent should see them before week three.

What the premium genuinely buys is physical presence, which matters for younger children, for ruler and compass work, and for a student who treats a laptop differently from an adult at the table. For a Year 11 student working through a past paper, it buys very little that a shared whiteboard and a screen-shared question do not already provide. All figures here were read in October 2026 and belong to the companies and rate guides that published them; IB Gram publishes no hourly list and quotes after a free trial.

The grade that decides the next course

IGCSE is a gateway qualification and the gate is narrow. Schools in Dubai set their own entry requirements for A Level and IB Higher Level subjects, usually in the top bands and sometimes with a condition on the Extended or Higher tier paper rather than on the overall grade. A student aiming at A Level Mathematics or Analysis and Approaches needs one named grade in one named subject, which is a much smaller problem than lifting nine subjects by half a grade.

That narrowness is useful because it tells a family where to spend. Ask the head of sixth form or the Diploma coordinator for the threshold in writing while there is still time to act on it. In The Valley the answer varies by household, because children here attend several different schools with different thresholds, so one neighbour's requirement tells you nothing reliable about your own child's. This is one more area where the community's spread of schools makes direct enquiry necessary.

There is a separate minimum worth knowing for UAE university plans. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from the count, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes six subjects, which is wrong. That is a floor, not a competitive standard, and equivalency is a process your family manages with the Ministry.

What eight weeks can do, and what it cannot

  • Weeks one and two diagnose with timed questions rather than teach
  • Work is chosen by what recurs on that syllabus code and currently fails
  • Between-session work has a named output, marked against the official scheme
  • If eight weeks cannot reach the target grade, we say so before you book

Eight weeks is the commonest commitment and in IGCSE it buys more than at Diploma level, because the papers are more strongly patterned. A student who understands the chemistry but cannot lay out a moles calculation can move a full grade in that time. A student who has never properly met half an Extended specification cannot, and a tutor implying otherwise is selling hope by the hour. The target has to be set in the first conversation rather than the sixth week.

The work that pays is narrow. Pick the two or three topics that recur most heavily in recent papers for that specific syllabus code and that the student currently fails, and stay on them until the failure stops. In Cambridge 0580 that is usually algebraic manipulation and multi-step problems; in 0620 it is moles and qualitative analysis; in 0625 it is circuits and moments. Re-teaching a whole course in eight weeks is the standard way a block gets wasted.

The other half is what happens between sessions, and in a commuting household this is where plans fail. One tutored hour is roughly one per cent of a student's week, so the hour has to change what the other days contain. Each session here ends with a named output: three past-paper questions attempted under timing and self-marked against the official scheme, with the student's own corrections brought back. A family treating the hour as the whole intervention gets a fraction of the result.

06

Coursework, practicals and the line a tutor must not cross

  • Assessed work must be the student's own and is authenticated by the school
  • We do not write, redraft to completion, source or sell any assessed piece
  • Practical skills are examined on a written paper in international specifications
  • Feedback given is recorded, so a school can see what support was provided

Several IGCSE subjects carry assessed work completed outside the examination hall, and parts of this market will offer to complete it for your child. That offer should be refused without discussion. Work submitted under a board's rules must be the student's own and is authenticated by the school; a submission that is not is a malpractice matter whose consequences fall on the candidate. One operation in this market sells completed internal assessments for a different qualification at AED 3,750, which tells you both that the trade exists and what it costs.

The boundary is workable once stated plainly. A tutor may teach the content a task draws on, explain the assessment criteria, question whether a method is reproducible, point out a conclusion that outruns the evidence, and comment on writing the student produced. A tutor may not write any part of a submission, redraft a paragraph into final form, select and carry out an investigation, or provide a model to be edited. The test is whether a sentence in the final piece exists because a tutor wrote it.

Practical science in both boards' international specifications is examined on a written paper rather than assessed in a laboratory, which has a useful consequence here. Everything that paper tests — reading apparatus diagrams, identifying independent and controlled variables, criticising a method, completing results tables, plotting graphs — can be taught over a screen using the boards' own past questions. Laboratory handling stays with the school, and no online tutor should claim otherwise.

07

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and what we do not claim

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. The market is substantial: 227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25 across 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the following academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

Two regulator facts bear directly on an IGCSE plan. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and combined classes prohibited; instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Those lessons are part of why a Year 11 week has less room than a tutoring plan assumes. The emirate also determines the regulator: ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

On our own standing the position is narrow and deliberate. IB Gram holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, no ADEK or Ministry approval, no Cambridge or Pearson partnership, and no office, branch or centre in the UAE. An individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, and those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure quoted online with suspicion.

08

Scheduling around the commute, Ramadan and the Gulf week

  • Monday to Friday working week with a half-day Friday in the UAE
  • Usually one genuinely usable weekday evening in a commuting household
  • Ramadan sessions move after Iftar with the same tutor retained
  • Blocks can pause during a school's own examination fortnight

A revision plan in this community is abandoned for scheduling reasons far more often than for teaching ones. The UAE working week runs Monday to Friday with a half-day Friday, which leaves Saturday and Sunday as the only full days and also as the days families travel and host. Add an outbound school run at both ends of the day and the number of genuinely usable weekday evenings is usually one, not four.

During Ramadan school hours shorten and the productive study window moves to the evening. For a Valley student with a long commute, a post-Iftar session is frequently the most useful hour available in that month, while an afternoon slot is largely wasted on a tired, fasting teenager. Planning for that in advance works considerably better than reacting to it in the second week, and the slot can move while the tutor stays the same.

Our side is straightforward. Slots are held in Gulf Standard Time and can sit wherever in the evening the household needs; they move after Iftar through Ramadan with the same tutor retained; and a block can pause during a school's own examination fortnight, when adding sessions produces fatigue rather than marks. What we will not do is move a student between tutors to fill a diary, because for a Year 11 student continuity with someone who already knows which questions go wrong is worth more than a full calendar, and rebuilding that knowledge with somebody new takes weeks the examination year does not have.

Where we tutor

The Valley and the communities around it

The Valley lies along the Dubai to Al Ain road. These are the neighbourhoods families here compare it with or share roads with, and what each changes about getting an IGCSE tutor in front of a child on a school night.

The Valley

A newer community with a town centre, sports village and parks but no school inside it yet. Outbound school runs in two directions mean a 5.30pm start is the first honest one, and that weekend blocks carry the whole-paper work.

Town Square

Along the Dubailand corridor with school provision of its own, which shortens the day considerably for families using it. The contrast with The Valley is the clearest demonstration of what an in-community school is worth measured in hours.

Arabian Ranches 3

A fast-growing Year 9 to Year 11 cohort across the corridor, with demand concentrated in Extended-tier mathematics and the separate sciences. The drive between there and here is why visiting tutors price a premium in both directions.

Mudon and Mudon Al Ranim

Villa communities off Al Qudra Road whose school runs also go outward. Families moving between these and The Valley usually change school at the same time, which produces specific unmet topics rather than general weakness.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

One of the two main school-run destinations from here, and a long run at four in the afternoon. A tutor travelling from that side faces the same traffic in the same direction as the school bus.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

The other main direction, with several established schools. Students travelling this way are regularly home later than parents expect, which is the single commonest cause of a tutoring slot lapsing.

Remraam and Damac Hills 2

Southern communities with a similar profile: newer, value-led and reliant on outbound school runs. Local supply of higher-tier subject specialists is thin across all of them for the same structural reason.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Valley

The Silicon Oasis, Academic City and Nad Al Sheba direction

One of the two directions Valley families travel in. Schools here enter a mix of Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications, which is precisely why confirming your own child's syllabus code matters more in this community than in a single-school catchment.

  • GEMS Modern Academy - Nad Al Sheba
  • Repton School Dubai
  • The Aquila School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School - The Villa
  • South View School

The Arabian Ranches and Mira direction

The other direction, with established British-curriculum provision and some IB alongside it. Year 10 and Year 11 demand from Valley families travelling this way concentrates on Extended-tier mathematics and the separate sciences rather than on the humanities.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School - Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • GEMS Metropole School - Motor City

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the board, the subject and the tier

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, the syllabus code if you have it, the subject and the tier. If you do not know the board, the school's examinations officer does, and in a community where children attend several schools it is worth asking rather than inferring from a neighbour.

  2. 02

Tell us when your child is genuinely home

Not the published end of the school day but the actual arrival time after the run. That single answer decides whether a weekday evening slot, a weekend block or both is the right structure, and getting it wrong is the main reason plans lapse here by the third week.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on a real weakness

Run by the tutor who would continue, on a genuine problem topic rather than a demonstration, ending with that tutor naming what they would tackle first and why. If the match is wrong, tell us and we will propose a different tutor rather than defend the first one.

  4. 04

A written plan anchored to a date

You receive the session sequence, the between-session work with named outputs, and the date it counts back from, whether that is the mock block or the series. It is specific enough to disagree with, which is the point of writing it down.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions and a note each time

Every session ends with a written note: covered, fixed, still weak, owed before next week. Progress shows up as the same question type ceasing to fail, not as a satisfaction score. If four weeks pass without that, we change the method or the tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The board established first

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different papers with different conventions and non-transferable past papers. In a community whose children attend schools in two directions, confirming the code before the first session prevents a wasted fortnight.

Travel priced openly

This page sets the published in-home and online bands side by side and says which part of the gap is a car journey. A household at the city's southern edge deserves that arithmetic rather than a quote with the distance quietly folded into it.

A structure that survives the commute

One protected weekday evening plus a weekend block is what lasts here. We plan for the actual arrival time rather than agreeing to a slot that sounds better and will be cancelled inside a fortnight.

A stated line on assessed work

Tutors teach, question and critique the student's own work. They do not write, redraft to completion or supply assessed material, and we do not source it. The feedback given is recorded in case the school asks what support was received.

Honest about the target grade

If the weeks remaining do not support the grade you want, we say so and discuss the November series as a planned route rather than a failure. A booking taken against an impossible target costs the student more than it costs us.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Valley: your questions answered

Will one of your tutors come to our house in The Valley?+

No. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and nobody will arrive at an address in The Valley. Lessons are one-to-one and live over video, with past-paper questions on screen, a shared whiteboard and an optional recording. Home tutoring is a service we operate in India only. The gain in a community at the city's southern edge is substantial: your child is matched to a tutor who teaches their exact syllabus code rather than to whoever will drive the Al Ain road at five in the afternoon.

How do we find out which exam board our child's school uses?+

Email the school's examinations officer, not the subject teacher, and ask for the syllabus code rather than the subject name. Cambridge mathematics is 0580 and the Pearson equivalent is 4MA1; the sciences are 0610, 0620 and 0625 against 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. In The Valley this matters more than in older communities, because children here attend schools in two different directions and a neighbour's answer may be entirely irrelevant to your own child's entry.

Why is a 4pm tutoring slot unrealistic in this community?+

Because there is no school inside The Valley at the time of writing, so every school run is outbound and a commute is added at both ends of a full day. A secondary student is realistically home around a quarter past five, which makes 5.30pm the first honest start. A slot agreed at 4pm because it sounds better tends to be abandoned within a fortnight. The structures that survive here are one protected weekday evening and a weekend block for whole-paper work.

How much of an in-home tutoring rate is the drive?+

A significant share. Published Dubai figures put in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. For a long peak-direction run to the city's southern edge, much of that gap is distance rather than teaching quality. It also appears as two-hour minimum bookings and as cancellations when the road fails. Those figures were read in October 2026 and belong to the companies that published them.

Does the Cambridge March series apply to a student in Dubai?+

No. Cambridge International's February and March series is offered to India only, so a candidate sitting in Dubai is not entered for it. UAE candidates sit the June series, with November available as the resit and alternative route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. If a revision plan, a website or a tutor refers your child to a March examination window, that plan was written for a different country and its dates should not be acted on.

Which year should we start tutoring in for the best value?+

Year 10, as early in it as possible. Fixing algebraic fluency or calculation layout while content is still new takes a handful of sessions; the same gap discovered in the final terms has to be closed while five other subjects compete for the hours and a predicted grade is already recorded. The gap itself does not change, only the cost of closing it. Starting in Year 10 usually removes the need for an intensive block in the examination year altogether, which is the cheaper outcome.

Can an online tutor prepare our son for the science practical paper?+

Yes, completely, because in both boards' international specifications practical skills are examined on a written paper rather than assessed in a laboratory. That paper asks students to identify independent and controlled variables, read apparatus diagrams, criticise a method and suggest improvements with their effects, complete results tables with correct units, plot graphs and comment on anomalies. All of it can be practised over a screen from the boards' own past questions. Laboratory handling remains the school's responsibility.

Our daughter has two subjects she is worried about. Should we tutor both?+

Usually one first, and in this community that is partly a logistics answer. A Year 11 student here already has a long school day, the KHDA-mandated Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies lessons and often a sport, so two tutored hours plus the between-session work for both is more than the week holds. Identify the subject where the grade gap most affects the intended post-16 route, address that, and reassess after a month. Two half-used engagements achieve less than one used properly.

Is a weekend session as effective as a weekday one?+

For IGCSE, often more so, and in a commuting household it is frequently the better option. Whole papers under timing, mark-scheme dissection and practical paper practice all need uninterrupted time rather than a squeezed evening hour, and that time genuinely exists only at the weekend here. A student doing one weekday hour on content and one weekend block on papers is running a better programme than one doing two tired weekday hours in a shorter-commute community.

What grade does my child need for A Level Maths?+

That is set by your child's own school rather than by the board, usually in the top bands and sometimes with a condition on the higher tier paper specifically rather than the overall grade. Ask the head of sixth form for the threshold in writing while there is still time to act on it. In The Valley the answer genuinely varies between neighbours, because children here attend several different schools with different thresholds, so one family's requirement tells you nothing reliable about another's.

We moved here mid-year and our son is behind in two subjects. How bad is that?+

Usually less bad than it looks. Schools teach the same specifications in different topic orders, so a mid-year arrival typically has two or three genuinely unmet topics and two or three covered twice, rather than a general weakness. A short diagnostic names which, and the gap often closes within a term. The important thing is doing it in the first term rather than the examination year, when the identical repair has to compete with five other subjects and a mock block.

Do you cover English as a Second Language as well as English Language?+

Yes, and they are genuinely different qualifications rather than easier and harder versions of one. Cambridge English as a Second Language is 0510 or 0511 with its own papers including listening and speaking components, while English Language is 0500 or 0990. A student entered for the wrong one loses far more than a few marks. Listening and speaking need rehearsal rather than revision, and accuracy outranks ambitious vocabulary throughout. Confirm with the examinations officer which your child is entered for.

Can sessions move during Ramadan without changing tutor?+

Yes, and planning for it beats reacting to it. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the productive window moves to the evening, so for a student with a long commute a post-Iftar session is often the most useful hour of the day while an afternoon slot is largely wasted. The slot moves and the tutor stays, because continuity with someone who already knows which questions go wrong is worth more than a tidy calendar. The same applies during a school's own examination fortnight.

If we get in touch this week, when could lessons realistically start?+

For mainstream subjects on either board, usually within a few days: a short diagnostic conversation, a free trial lesson with the tutor who would continue, then a written plan anchored to a date. Less common subjects and unusual tier combinations take longer, and we will say how long rather than book a placeholder session. If a school deadline makes the timing urgent, say so in the first message, because it changes which tutors we approach and in what order.

Why does this page not show reviews or a success rate?+

Because a figure without a sample size, a date and a method is a marketing claim rather than evidence. Several providers in this market publish self-asserted ratings that differ from their own page text, and one shows a review count that cannot be reconciled with its stated student numbers. Self-serving review markup is also a structured-data policy problem. What this page publishes instead is checkable: AED figures with their publisher and the month read, and regulator descriptions quoted from u.ae.

The board, the subject and the real arrival time

Three facts make the first session useful: Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel with the syllabus code if you have it, the subject and tier, and when your child is genuinely home after the run rather than when the school day officially ends. From those we can say whether a weekday evening, a weekend block or both is the right structure for your household. Next is a free trial lesson with the tutor who would continue, then a short written plan anchored to a date. Lessons run one-to-one over live video into The Valley in Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
