IGCSE Home Tutor in Pearl Jumeira

Searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Pearl Jumeira is usually a search for a different thing: somebody who genuinely knows the syllabus your child is entered for. Those are not the same requirement, and the second one is harder to satisfy by postcode. This page gives you the questions that separate a tutor who has taught 0580 or 4MA1 from one who has taught maths, and explains why an island served by a single causeway makes that distinction sharper. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Pearl Jumeira

The question behind the search, and an honest answer to it

A parent typing IGCSE home tutor in Pearl Jumeira into a search box is not usually asking a geography question. They are asking whether there is anybody available who really understands the course their child is sitting, and proximity has become the proxy for that because proximity is the only thing a search engine can filter on. The two requirements then get bundled together, and the bundling is where families lose money and time.

Here is why they come apart. IGCSE is not one qualification. In Dubai schools the same subject name covers different specifications with different papers, different tier structures and different practical arrangements. Mathematics is either Cambridge 0580, tiered Core and Extended, with a two-hour paper where no calculator is permitted, or Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, tiered Foundation and Higher, with a calculator permitted in both papers. Physics is either Cambridge 0625, which carries a practical component worth 20 per cent taken as Paper 5 or Paper 6, or Pearson 4PH1, which has no separate practical paper and assesses those skills inside the written papers. A tutor who knows one of those thoroughly and the other vaguely is a different proposition depending on which your child sits.

Second, the pool reachable from this island is small in a way that is easy to underestimate. Pearl Jumeira is reclaimed land off the Jumeirah 1 shoreline with one causeway serving it. A tutor has to be free at a fixed hour on a fixed weekday, willing to make the approach in late-afternoon traffic, and in possession of the specific syllabus experience you need. Each of those conditions cuts the set. Applied together they frequently leave nobody, and what happens next is the predictable thing: a capable general tutor is engaged, at a specialist rate, and the first paid sessions go on calibration.

Third, the honest test is not a credential. It is a conversation, and it takes about twenty minutes. There are four or five questions whose answers distinguish somebody who has marked these papers from somebody who has taught the subject in general, and none of them is aggressive or unusual. They are set out below, with what a good answer sounds like, so that the conversation is yours to run rather than ours.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason that answers the original question rather than dodging it is simple: removing the distance condition is what allows the syllabus condition to be met. The filter stops being who can reach the island on Tuesday and becomes who has taught this code at this tier.

At a glance

  • Proximity and syllabus knowledge are two requirements, routinely bundled as one
  • Cambridge 0625 has a practical paper worth 20 per cent; Pearson 4PH1 does not
  • A single causeway narrows the reachable pool before syllabus is considered
  • Four or five questions will separate a specialist from a generalist
  • Removing the distance condition is what makes the syllabus condition satisfiable
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Pearl Jumeira families use schools across the Jumeirah coast and inland, where the British curriculum dominates by enrolment. These are the programmes the syllabus question applies across.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two separate awarding bodies offering what parents think of as one qualification. Cambridge tiers into Core, graded C to G, and Extended, graded A* to E. Pearson Edexcel tiers into Foundation and Higher. Paper counts, durations, calculator rules and practical arrangements differ by board and by subject, which is why the code matters more than the subject name.

UK curriculum schools accounted for 37 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, the largest single share across 227 schools and 387,441 students. That makes IGCSE the most common qualification in the emirate and the one with the deepest general tutor market, which is precisely why price does not distinguish a generalist from somebody who has taught your child's specification.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The alternative route to 16 in continuum schools nearby, assessed against four criteria per subject rather than by terminal papers. Relevant here because families comparing schools, or transferring between them, need to know that a tutor experienced in one model may have no experience of the other.

Transfers between MYP and IGCSE cohorts happen regularly across the Jumeirah and Al Barsha clusters. A student moving into IGCSE in Year 11 needs a term of work on paper convention and timed recall rather than on subject thinking, and a tutor who has only taught MYP will not know what that convention is.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Where many IGCSE students in this cluster go next, alongside A Level. Entry to Higher Level subjects is typically conditioned on Extended or Higher tier results, which is what makes the tier decision in Year 10 a decision about post-16 options rather than about a grade.

The Diploma accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25. For a family on this island the practical point is that a tutor experienced in IGCSE is not automatically experienced in the Diploma, and a tutor who will be needed for both should be asked about both at the outset rather than assumed to cover them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Pearl Jumeira families most often ask about, each with the specification detail that a genuinely experienced tutor will know without being prompted.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

The test question is calculator policy. Cambridge Extended sits a two-hour paper without a calculator; Pearson permits one in both papers. A tutor who cannot tell you that straight away has not taught both.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

The test question is the practical component. Cambridge carries one worth 20 per cent, taken as a practical test or the alternative to practical in written form. Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Stoichiometry is where grades separate on both boards, and the practical arrangement differs as it does in physics. Ask which salt-preparation methods the practical paper has examined recently; a specialist will have an answer.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Content-heavy with marks concentrated in precise explanation. The useful test is whether a tutor talks about the order ideas must appear in for a mechanism question, which is where students who know the biology still lose marks.

Co-ordinated Sciences and Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 double award; 0653 single award

A different course from three separate sciences, with a longer combined theory paper and two grades from one set of papers for 0654. A tutor who does not distinguish 0654 from 0620 and 0625 has not taught it.

English Language and English Literature

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Component structures vary considerably between boards, including whether coursework or an examined alternative applies. The test question is which components the school has entered for, and whether the tutor has marked them.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Command terms carry the grade: students write knowledge where the question demands evaluation. A tutor should be able to name the command terms and the mark allocations they imply without looking anything up.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Practical and theory components vary sharply by board and have been revised in recent years. This is the subject where an out-of-date tutor is hardest for a parent to detect, which makes the specification question essential.

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure Mathematics

Cambridge and Pearson options

Taken by stronger cohorts in several Jumeirah schools alongside the main maths qualification. A narrow specialism, and a good example of a subject where a reachable local pool often contains nobody at all.

Arabic as a first or additional language

Cambridge and Pearson specifications, alongside KHDA requirements

Sits alongside the KHDA mandatory subject requirement, where separate classes are required for Arabs and non-Arabs and teachers need appropriate KHDA approval. Tutoring here must be described carefully, because additional content needs prior Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements fit the question this page is about. All teaching is one-to-one over live video.

Specification-matched weekly hour

A fixed weekly hour with a tutor matched to the exact code and tier your child is entered for, rather than to the subject name. The tutor works from the school's own scheme of work and the papers the school sets, which removes the calibration period entirely.

  • Matched on code and tier, not subject name
  • Follows the school's teaching order
  • Same slot weekly in Gulf Standard Time
  • Written note of topics after each session

Twenty-minute verification call

Before any booking, a short conversation in which you ask the questions set out on this page and hear the answers yourself. Nothing is sold during it. The purpose is for you to establish, rather than be told, that the person knows the specification.

  • Questions supplied so you run the conversation
  • No booking taken during the call
  • Specification, tier and recent papers discussed
  • Followed by a free trial lesson if it goes well

Narrow-subject match with stated limits

For subjects where coverage is genuinely thin, such as Additional Mathematics or a less common language, we say what is available, what the typical match time is, and what the fallback looks like, before anything is agreed.

  • Availability stated honestly, including gaps
  • Expected match time given up front
  • Fallback option described in advance
  • No booking taken against an unconfirmed match

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Pearl Jumeira

01

Five questions that separate a specialist from a generalist in twenty minutes

You do not need to be able to teach the subject to run this test. Each question below has a factual answer that somebody who has taught the specification will give immediately and somebody who has not will approach vaguely. The table pairs each question with what a strong answer sounds like and what a weak one sounds like.

Ask them in order and listen for specificity rather than confidence. A tutor who says they are comfortable with all boards and all tiers has told you nothing, because every tutor says that. A tutor who says the Cambridge Extended non-calculator paper is the one that catches students moving from Pearson, and then explains why, has told you something that cannot be bluffed.

The second thing to listen for is whether they ask you questions back. Somebody who has taught Year 11 cohorts will want to know which code the school enters for, which tier the student is on, whether the school has made the tier decision yet, and what the last marked paper looked like. A tutor who takes the booking without asking any of that is going to spend your first sessions finding out.

A third signal is how they handle not knowing something. A tutor who says they have taught Cambridge and not Pearson, and would want a week with the specification before starting, has given you a more useful answer than one who claims both without hesitation. Candour about a gap is the best available evidence that the rest of the answers are real. Run this conversation before paying for anything. It costs twenty minutes and it is the single highest-value thing a parent can do in this market, because it addresses the thing a search engine cannot filter for.

How would you decide between Core and Extended tier? From a marked Extended past paper, distinguishing content gaps from techniqueRecommends Extended because it has a higher ceiling
02

Why the same subject name hides two different courses

The specification differences are not trivia. They determine which past papers are useful, how long the papers run, what a tier decision means, and whether a practical component exists at all. The table sets out the structures a Pearl Jumeira family is most likely to meet, which is also the reference a tutor should not need.

Mathematics is the clearest case. Cambridge 0580 Extended candidates sit Paper 2 without a calculator and Paper 4 with one, each two hours and 100 marks, half the grade apiece. Core candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 3 at one hour thirty minutes each. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 has two papers of two hours at Foundation or Higher tier, with a calculator permitted in both. A student drilled for a non-calculator paper they will not sit has spent months on something adjacent to the point.

The sciences differ in a way that is even more consequential. Cambridge separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, include a practical component worth 20 per cent of the grade, entered either as Paper 5, a practical test with apparatus, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical in written form. Pearson Edexcel Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1 have no separate practical paper and assess those skills within the written papers. One fifth of the grade exists in one system and does not in the other.

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 complicates it further. It is a double award: one set of papers covering all three disciplines, producing two grades, with a longer combined theory paper. A student on 0654 does not need three subject specialists, which is useful to know before engaging three. Combined Science 0653 is the single-award equivalent.

03

The arithmetic of a reachable tutor pool on an island

  • Conditions on a visiting tutor multiply rather than add
  • UK curriculum is 37 per cent of Dubai enrolment, so the general pool is deep
  • Awarding body, tier and practical route are three further filters
  • The market tends to relax the syllabus condition because it is invisible

It is worth being concrete about why a locally reachable pool is smaller than it feels. Every condition you place on a visiting tutor multiplies against the others rather than adding to them, and four or five reasonable conditions can empty a set that looked large.

Start with the whole set of competent IGCSE tutors in Dubai, which is genuinely deep, because UK curriculum schools account for 37 per cent of enrolment across 227 private schools and 387,441 students. Now require that the person can be on this island by 5pm on a specific weekday, which excludes anybody teaching elsewhere at that hour and anybody for whom the causeway approach in late-afternoon traffic is not worth one booking. Now require the correct awarding body. Now require the correct tier, because teaching Core well and teaching Extended well are not the same skill. Now require experience of the particular practical route the school has entered for.

The result is not usually zero, but it is often one or two people, and they may not be free. At that point the family faces a choice nobody states openly: relax the syllabus condition, or relax the distance condition. The market relaxes the syllabus condition, because the distance condition is the one the parent can see. A capable general tutor arrives, the rate reflects the drive rather than the specialism, and the mismatch surfaces in February.

Relaxing the distance condition instead keeps everything that affects the grade and discards the thing that does not. That is the entire argument for online delivery on a page like this, and it is an argument about the pool rather than about technology.

04

Coverage, match time and what happens when nobody is available

No tutoring platform covers every subject at every level at every hour, and the ones that imply otherwise are the ones to be careful with. Stating coverage honestly is unusual in this market: no competitor reviewed in this cluster discloses a coverage limit, and several route UAE families to numbers outside the country without saying so.

The position here is straightforward. Core IGCSE subjects on both major awarding bodies are well covered, and a match is normally made quickly. Narrower subjects are not uniformly covered, and in those cases the honest answer is a stated match time rather than a yes. Where no suitable tutor is available, that is said before a booking rather than discovered after one, and nothing is taken on account against a match that has not been confirmed.

There is a second kind of limit worth naming. A tutor who has taught a subject at IGCSE is not automatically suitable for the Diploma, and vice versa. Families on this island frequently need both across a few years, and the sensible approach is to ask about both at the outset rather than assume continuity. Where a change of tutor is the right answer at the transition, saying so is part of the job.

The table sets out how this works in practice by subject group. The purpose is not to present limits as a feature, but to let a family plan around real ones instead of discovering them in the week a mock is sat.

05

The tier decision, and why it is the most consequential thing you will be asked

Somewhere in Year 10 the school will decide, or ask you to help decide, which tier your child sits. It is the single most consequential academic decision of the two-year course, because it sets a ceiling before any teaching happens. Cambridge Core is graded C to G; Extended is graded A* to E. A student entered for Core cannot achieve an A, however well they perform.

The decision is often made on classroom impressions, which are a poor instrument. A student who is quiet in class and accurate on paper looks weaker than they are. A student who is confident in discussion and careless under time pressure looks stronger. The honest instrument is a marked Extended past paper taken under timed conditions, read not for the total but for the pattern: are the lost marks content the student has never been taught, or technique the student has not practised?

That distinction decides the right answer. Technique failures are recoverable within a term, which usually argues for Extended. Content gaps across several unrelated topics, with the series approaching, usually argue for protecting a strong Core grade rather than chasing a weak Extended one, because a secure grade is worth more than an ambitious failure. Either way the decision should follow the evidence rather than optimism, and a tutor who recommends Extended without seeing a paper is not advising, they are flattering.

For MoE equivalency on the British track the relevant rule is that a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among those five. One provider ranking for these searches publishes a different subject count. Verify the requirement through the Ministry of Education's own channel rather than through any tutoring website, including this one.

06

Checking the permit, and what the rules actually say

  • The MoHRE permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services; two working days
  • No fine amounts are published, so quoted figures cannot be substantiated

The verification conversation has a legal half as well as an academic one, and it is shorter. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is granted free of charge for two years.

Because there is no fee, lacking one is a choice rather than a barrier, and eligibility is broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fees stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so a specific amount quoted to you is not something anyone can substantiate.

A second point concerns who may teach whom. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. A family should therefore ask not only whether a permit is held but whether their child attends the school where the tutor teaches.

A third point concerns organisations rather than individuals. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, obtained with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific permit for a specific kind of business, and nobody without it should be describing themselves in terms that imply it.

07

Online delivery as the answer to the original question

This page began with a parent asking whether anybody nearby really knows the syllabus. Having set out why the two conditions conflict, it is worth closing the loop concretely rather than with a slogan.

The market rates first, because they are part of the answer. In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to AED 500. Online qualified subject tutors are published at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase AED 270 for specialist work. Budget online options start lower, at AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik. Those are market figures from the named providers, read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price list.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared papers, annotated working kept after the session, and recordings available. What that buys in relation to the original question is the whole pool rather than the causeway-reachable fraction of it, which means the match can be made on code, tier and practical route.

What it does not buy is a person in the room, and some families want that more than they want the specialist, which is a legitimate preference rather than a mistake. The point of this page is that the choice should be visible. Running the five verification questions will tell you quickly whether the reachable option knows your child's specification. If the answers are strong, the local choice is a good one. If they are vague, the premium is paying for a drive.

Where we tutor

Pearl Jumeira and the communities around it

Pearl Jumeira is an island community reached by one causeway from the Jumeirah 1 shoreline. The pool arithmetic described here applies with small variations along the whole coastal strip.

Pearl Jumeira

Villa plots on reclaimed land with a single access road. For a visiting tutor that one entry point is the binding constraint, and it is why the locally reachable pool is smaller here than a map suggests.

Jumeirah 1

The mainland district the causeway feeds into, and where most of the island's school runs begin. A tutor quoting for Pearl Jumeira is usually pricing Jumeirah 1 plus the island approach.

LA Mer

The beachfront development immediately south. Same school cluster, same syllabus mix, no causeway, which makes it a useful comparison for how much of a quotation is distance rather than subject.

Jumeirah 2

Larger villa plots inland with a high concentration of British-curriculum families. The subject requested most often here is maths, and the specification is split between Cambridge and Pearson schools.

City Walk

Dense low-rise apartments across Al Wasl Road. Visitor registration and basement parking are the apartment equivalent of the causeway, adding time at both ends of a visit.

Al Wasl

The corridor every inbound tutor crosses. Late-afternoon crossings run thirty to fifty minutes, and that time sits inside the hourly rate whether or not it is itemised.

Jumeirah 3

Towards Umm Suqeim, with longer internal drives and later arrivals. The constraint here is identical to the island's: fewer people can realistically be there at 5pm on a Tuesday.

Umm Suqeim

Several large British-curriculum schools and a deep market for general subject help. Also the clearest example of how a deep general market can still be thin on a specific specification.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the code on the entry statement

Before any conversation with any tutor, establish which awarding body and tier the school has entered your child for. It is on the exam entry statement and the department will confirm it by email. Every other decision on this page follows from that one answer.

  2. 02

    Run the five verification questions

Use the questions in the table above on anyone you are considering, including us. Listen for specificity rather than confidence, and notice whether they ask you anything back. A tutor who takes a booking without asking about code, tier or recent marked work will spend your first sessions finding out.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full session at no charge, taught rather than pitched, with the student rather than with you. The tutor works from recent marked work and begins teaching. One trial lesson per student, before any booking is made; if the match is wrong, say so and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

Settle the tier question with evidence

If the Core or Extended decision is still open, the useful instrument is a marked Extended past paper under timed conditions, read for the pattern rather than the total. Technique failures usually argue for Extended; content gaps across several topics close to the series usually argue for protecting Core.

  5. 05

Hold a fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time

Once matched, a standing weekly hour in the same slot, following the school's own teaching order and the papers the school sets. Where a subject's coverage is narrow we say so before booking, and give a match time rather than a reassurance.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The questions are handed to you, not answered for you

This page gives you the five questions that distinguish a specialist from a generalist, with what strong and weak answers sound like. Run them on anyone, including us. A page that tells you what to ask is more useful than one that tells you how good it is.

Matched on code and tier

A tutor is matched to Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher, to 0625 with Paper 6 or to 4PH1, rather than to a subject name. The calibration period that eats the first few paid sessions of a mismatched booking simply does not happen.

Coverage limits stated before booking

Where a subject is narrow, the answer is a stated match time or an honest decline rather than a generalist filling the slot. No competitor reviewed in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all, which is why disclosing one is worth something.

The pool rather than the radius

Because teaching is one-to-one over live video, the condition that a tutor be across the causeway at 5pm on a Tuesday disappears, and the conditions that affect the grade remain. That is an argument about availability, not about technology.

Rates attributed and dated

Every AED figure here belongs to the provider that published it and carries the month it was read. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars, which is not the currency these families transact in.

No guarantees, and a free trial first

No grade, improvement or outcome is promised, because none can honestly be. What is on offer is a specification-matched tutor, a verification conversation you run, a free trial lesson, and a written note of what each session covered.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Pearl Jumeira: your questions answered

How do I find out whether a tutor really knows my child's IGCSE syllabus?+

Ask five factual questions and listen for specificity. Which code does the school enter for, and why does it matter? What is the calculator policy on each maths paper? How is practical work assessed in this science? Where did students lose marks on the last paper you marked? How would you decide between Core and Extended? Somebody who has taught the specification answers immediately and concretely. Somebody who has taught the subject in general answers warmly and vaguely, and will usually say that all boards are much the same.

Is a tutor living near Pearl Jumeira better than one who knows the exact specification?+

Only if the nearby tutor also knows the specification, which is less common than it sounds. The island is reached by a single causeway, so a visiting tutor must be free at a fixed hour, willing to make the late-afternoon approach, and in possession of the right awarding body, tier and practical-route experience. Those conditions multiply rather than add. When the reachable set empties, the market relaxes the syllabus condition because it is the one a parent cannot see, which is how a generalist arrives at a specialist price.

What is the practical difference between Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 physics?+

A fifth of the grade. Cambridge 0625 includes a practical component worth 20 per cent, entered either as Paper 5, a practical test using apparatus, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical answered in writing. Pearson Edexcel 4PH1 has no separate practical paper and assesses those skills inside its two written papers instead. A tutor who has only taught Cambridge has spent years preparing students for a component your child may not sit, and the reverse applies equally.

Does the maths calculator rule really change how a tutor should teach?+

Substantially. Cambridge 0580 Extended candidates sit Paper 2 with no calculator permitted, over two hours, which makes standard form, surds, fraction work and mental estimation assessed skills in their own right. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers, so the same hours are better spent on long multi-step questions and calculator efficiency. A student drilled for a non-calculator paper they will never sit has lost months, and no amount of general competence recovers that.

My child does Co-ordinated Sciences 0654. Do we need three science tutors?+

No, and engaging three is a common and expensive mistake. 0654 is a double award: one set of papers covers biology, chemistry and physics and produces two grades, with a longer combined theory paper and the same practical component at 20 per cent. The depth in each discipline is shallower than in the separate sciences. What the student needs is one tutor comfortable moving across all three at the level the combined paper actually demands, which is a different profile from a subject specialist.

Why does the Core or Extended tier decision matter so much?+

Because it sets a ceiling before any teaching happens. Cambridge Core is graded C to G and Extended A* to E, so a student entered for Core cannot achieve an A however well they perform. The decision is often made on classroom impressions, which flatter the confident and undersell the quiet. The honest instrument is a marked Extended past paper sat under timed conditions, read for whether the lost marks are untaught content or unpractised technique. Those two patterns point in opposite directions.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to a Pearl Jumeira home?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared papers, annotated working kept after the session and recordings available. The reason that answers the question on this page rather than avoiding it: removing the distance condition is what makes the specification condition satisfiable, and the specification is what affects the grade.

What should I do if a tutor says all exam boards are basically the same?+

Treat it as the answer to your question. Paper counts, durations, tier names, calculator policy and the existence of a practical component all differ between Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel, and in the sciences the practical difference is worth 20 per cent of the grade in one system and nothing in the other. A tutor who has taught both cohorts knows this without thinking. The statement that boards are much the same is not reassurance; it is a description of how much detail the person has been close to.

How quickly can a specification-matched tutor be found for an island family?+

For core subjects on either major awarding body, normally quickly, because the pool is not limited by who can reach the causeway on a given weekday. For narrower subjects such as Additional Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics or a less common language, coverage is genuinely thinner and the honest answer is a stated match time rather than a yes. Nothing is taken on account against a match that has not been confirmed, and where no suitable tutor exists we say so.

What does an IGCSE tutor cost in Dubai, and does the island change the price?+

It changes in-home pricing and not online pricing. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350. Online qualified subject tutors are published at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase AED 270. Budget online options start at AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya. Those figures belong to the named providers and were read in October 2026.

Should I ask a potential tutor about both IGCSE and the IB Diploma?+

Yes, at the outset, because experience in one does not imply experience in the other. IGCSE is marked by terminal papers with tiered entry; the Diploma reintroduces internal assessments with fixed percentages and a different mark-scheme culture. Families on this island often need both across three or four years. Where a change of tutor is the right answer at the transition point, that should be said rather than smoothed over, and asking the question early makes it easier to plan for.

How many IGCSE passes does a British-curriculum student need for UAE equivalency?+

The published British-track rule is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five. One provider ranking for these searches states six subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Verify the current requirement through the Ministry of Education's own channel.

Is my tutor allowed to teach my child if they work at the same school?+

This is worth asking directly. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. The practical question for a parent is therefore not only whether a permit is held but whether their child attends the school where the person teaches. Both answers should come without hesitation.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to find a specialist for in this part of Dubai?+

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure Mathematics, taken by stronger cohorts in several Jumeirah schools, and less commonly offered languages. Computer Science and ICT are a different problem: the pool is larger but specifications have been revised, so an out-of-date tutor is hard for a parent to detect. In all three cases the specification question is the one that matters, and a stated match time is a better answer than a confident yes from somebody who last taught the subject several revisions ago.

Get the code, run the five questions, then decide about distance

The sequence matters more than the search term. Find the awarding body and tier on the exam entry statement. Run the five verification questions on anyone you are considering, including us, and listen for specificity rather than warmth. Only then decide whether the premium for somebody who can cross the causeway at 5pm on a Tuesday is buying you anything the online option does not. If the local answers are strong, the local choice is a good one. If they are vague, you now know what the premium is paying for. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson first.
