IB Tutor near me in Pearl Jumeira

Typing IB tutor near me in Pearl Jumeira produces a list of people who can reach the island, which is not the same list as people who have taught the Diploma at Higher Level. The International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, so the local pool is thinner than the search results suggest. This page explains where the depth actually sits, subject by subject, and how to test for it. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Pearl Jumeira

What a proximity search returns, and why the IB breaks it

A near me search sorts by distance because distance is the only variable it can see. For a subject with a deep local market that is a reasonable approximation of availability. For the IB Diploma in Dubai it is a poor one, and the reason is arithmetic rather than opinion. In 2024-25 Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula, and the International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of enrolment against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum and 26 per cent Indian. The teaching workforce follows the enrolment. A list sorted by proximity will therefore be dominated by people whose experience is British curriculum, however the listings describe themselves.

That matters because the Diploma is not a harder version of A Level or IGCSE. Six subjects run concurrently at two levels, each with an internal assessment carrying a fixed percentage of the grade. Three subjects are taken at Higher Level, which is not Standard Level with extra chapters but a different depth with different papers. Alongside them sit Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service, each with its own published criteria. Somebody who has taught the subject matter without having taught inside that structure will be a competent teacher of the content and an unreliable guide to the assessment, and the assessment is where the grade is lost.

Pearl Jumeira sharpens the problem again. The community sits on reclaimed land off the Jumeirah 1 shoreline, reached by a single causeway, so a visiting tutor must be free at a fixed hour, prepared for the late-afternoon approach, and in possession of the right subject at the right level. Each condition cuts the set, and they cut it multiplicatively. For a widely taught Higher Level subject the result may be one or two names. For a thinly taught one it is routinely none.

What families do next is predictable and understandable. The syllabus condition gets relaxed, because the distance condition is the one that is visible. A good general tutor arrives at a specialist rate, and the mismatch shows up months later in an internal assessment draft that has been written without reference to the criteria it will be marked against.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason this page argues for that is availability rather than technology: for a curriculum carrying 7 per cent of local enrolment, the difference between the whole pool and the causeway-reachable fraction of it is the difference between a Higher Level specialist and somebody doing their best.

At a glance

  • The IB was 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25
  • UK curriculum was 37 per cent, so proximity lists skew British
  • Higher Level is a different depth with different papers, not extra chapters
  • A single causeway plus a fixed hour plus a subject at a level empties most sets
  • Internal assessment criteria are where mismatched tutoring shows up late
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Diploma sits at the end of a continuum, and a family on this island may need help at any point along it. These are the programmes behind the availability question.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, with an internal assessment in every subject and three core components alongside. Higher Level subjects carry more teaching hours, additional content and in some subjects an extra paper, which is why Higher Level experience is a distinct qualification in a tutor rather than a bonus.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. Supply of Diploma places is growing faster than supply of experienced Diploma teachers, which is the structural reason a proximity search in a community like Pearl Jumeira returns general tutors for specific Higher Level requests.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The five years before the Diploma in continuum schools, assessed against four criteria per subject rather than by examination. A tutor experienced in MYP criteria is not automatically experienced in Diploma mark schemes, and the two models reward genuinely different things.

The step from MYP 5 into Year 12 is where island families most often start looking for a tutor, and where a proximity search is least reliable. The work needed is timed performance and mark-allocation discipline rather than content, and a tutor who has only taught criterion-marked tasks will not recognise that as the problem.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

The earliest stage of the continuum, inquiry-led and assessed on process rather than outcome. Support here is usually about reading fluency, number confidence or settling after a school move, and it does not require Diploma-level specialism.

This is also where paying Diploma rates is least justified. Published budget online rates start at AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik, and for most primary needs that band is appropriate. A provider quoting specialist rates for PYP support is pricing a scarcity that does not apply.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Local supply is not uniform across the Diploma. These are the subjects Pearl Jumeira families ask about, with an honest note on where Higher Level depth is easy to find and where it is not.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested Higher Level subject and the one where general maths experience is least transferable, because Paper 3 and the proof-style reasoning are specific to this course. Local supply of genuine Higher Level experience is thinner than the volume of maths tutors implies.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. Supply is better at Standard Level than Higher, and the common mismatch is a tutor who teaches it as Analysis and Approaches with easier questions, which misreads what the papers reward.

Physics

HL and SL

Higher Level supply is genuinely limited in Dubai relative to demand, particularly for the fields content and the investigation criteria. A tutor who has taught A Level physics knows the physics and may not know the assessment structure.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Demand concentrates at Higher Level because of medicine and dentistry pathways, which makes it one of the tightest supply points in the city. Organic mechanism teaching to the mark scheme is the specific skill to ask about.

Biology

HL and SL

Better covered than the other two sciences, with a larger pool of tutors comfortable at Higher Level. The useful test question is about the order ideas must appear in for an extended response, which is where prepared students still lose marks.

Economics

HL and SL

Reasonably covered, with the caveat that the internal assessment commentaries have a specific format. A tutor who has not marked against those criteria will coach the economics well and the submission poorly.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Well covered, but the individual oral and the specific written components are where experience shows. Ask which components the tutor has prepared students for by name, rather than whether they teach English.

Language B: French, Spanish and others

HL and SL

Supply varies sharply by language. French and Spanish are reasonably covered; several other Language B options are thin, and for those the honest answer is a stated match time rather than an assurance.

History and Psychology

HL and SL

Both well represented in the general tutoring market and less so at Diploma level, where argument construction against published criteria is the work. Psychology in particular has a specific internal assessment format worth asking about.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

The thinnest supply of all, because few people have supervised either. Support is process coaching and criteria teaching against the student's own drafts; nothing may be written, redrafted or supplied for them.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements address the availability problem this page describes. All teaching is one-to-one over live video.

Level-matched weekly hour

A standing weekly hour with a tutor matched to the subject at the level actually being sat, Higher or Standard, rather than to the subject name. For Higher Level requests this is the whole point of the arrangement, because the paper structure and depth differ.

  • Matched on subject and level, not subject alone
  • Internal assessment criteria discussed at the outset
  • Same slot weekly in Gulf Standard Time
  • Written note of what each session covered

Core-component blocks

Longer sessions reserved for Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay or a subject internal assessment, placed in the first Diploma year. Supply for these is the thinnest in the market, so they are booked ahead rather than arranged in the week a draft is due.

  • Booked in advance during the lighter terms
  • Criteria taught with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • Nothing written, redrafted or supplied

Stated-limit matching

For subjects where coverage is genuinely narrow, including several Language B options and the core components, the answer given before booking is what is available, how long a match typically takes, and what happens if nobody suitable is free.

  • Availability stated honestly, including gaps
  • Expected match time given before any payment
  • Honest decline where no suitable tutor exists
  • No booking against an unconfirmed match

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Pearl Jumeira

01

Where Higher Level depth actually sits, subject by subject

A near me list does not distinguish between a tutor who has taught a subject and one who has taught it inside the Diploma at Higher Level. This section does, honestly, including where the answer is unflattering. The table below sets out the picture a Pearl Jumeira family should expect by subject group.

Read the right-hand column rather than the left. What a family needs to know is not whether a subject is hard but whether somebody who has prepared students for that specific assessment is realistically available. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and Chemistry at Higher Level are the two tightest points in Dubai, the first because Paper 3 and the proof-style reasoning do not transfer from other maths teaching, the second because medicine and dentistry pathways concentrate demand there.

The core components are tighter still, and almost nobody says so. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay require somebody who has supervised them and read the published criteria closely, and the number of people in any city who have done that is small relative to the number of Diploma students who need help. A tutoring listing that offers Theory of Knowledge alongside twenty other subjects is making a claim worth testing with a single question: which assessment criteria does the Theory of Knowledge essay carry, and what does each reward?

Where supply is good, this page says so. Biology at Higher Level, English A, History and Economics are reasonably covered in Dubai, and a family requesting those has a genuine choice. That distinction between well-covered and thin subjects is the practical content of an availability conversation, and it is the conversation no competitor page in this cluster has.

02

Four questions that reveal Diploma experience rather than subject knowledge

  • Internal assessment percentage and criterion names should come instantly
  • A real answer on Standard against Higher Level names content and papers
  • Command terms and mark allocations are the vocabulary of a Diploma teacher
  • Hesitation on the assessed-work boundary is the strongest warning available

You do not need to know the Diploma to test for it. Each of these questions has an answer that somebody who has worked inside the programme gives without pausing, and that somebody who has taught the subject elsewhere approaches generally.

First: what percentage of this subject's grade is the internal assessment, and what are the criteria called? Every Diploma subject has one, the percentage is fixed and published, and the criteria have names. A tutor who has prepared students for it will answer in a sentence. A tutor who has not will talk about coursework in general terms.

Second: what changes between Standard and Higher Level in this subject? The right answer is specific, naming additional content, additional papers where they exist, and the extra teaching hours. The wrong answer is that Higher Level covers the same material in more depth, which is true of nothing in particular and tells you the person has not taught both.

Third: where do students lose marks on the extended response questions? A Diploma teacher answers with command terms and mark allocations, because a four-mark explain question requires four distinct points and students reliably write three good ones at length. Somebody outside the programme answers with a general observation about exam technique.

Fourth: what may a tutor do with an internal assessment draft, and what may they not? The correct answer is firm and immediate: teach the criteria, teach the content, give feedback on what the student has written, and write none of it. Hesitation here is the most useful signal in the entire conversation, because it is a question about integrity rather than about expertise.

03

Reading a Dubai school inspection report, and what it does not tell you

Families searching for a tutor near them are often also assessing the school, and in Dubai that means reading a KHDA inspection outcome. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and its inspections place schools on a six-band scale. Understanding what the bands mean is useful; understanding what they do not measure is more useful.

The scale runs from Outstanding through Very Good, Good and Acceptable to Weak and Very Weak. A band is a judgement about a whole school across many measures, and it is published on the regulator's own site, which makes it a far better source than any tutoring website's claim about which schools are best. What it is not is a statement about a particular subject at Higher Level in a particular year, which is the thing a Diploma family actually wants to know.

That gap explains a pattern worth naming. A school in a high band can have a thin year in a specific Higher Level subject because one teacher left in August. A school in a middling band can have an exceptional Higher Level chemistry department. Neither shows up in the band. The question that gets closer to the truth is asked at the school rather than read in a report: how many students took this subject at Higher Level last year, and who is teaching it this year?

The regulator map is worth knowing in full, because it differs by emirate and almost no competitor page in this market names it. Dubai is KHDA. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in that emirate. Sharjah is the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah fall under the federal Ministry of Education. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not merely inspection sits with the emirate.

THE KHDA INSPECTION BANDS AND WHAT EACH IMPLIES
BandWhat it describesWhat it does not tell a Diploma family
OutstandingThe highest published judgement across inspected measuresWhether a specific Higher Level subject is strong this year
Very GoodConsistently strong provision across most measuresHow many students took that subject at Higher Level
GoodSolid provision with identified areas to improveWhether the teacher of that subject has changed
AcceptableMeets expectations with notable development areasAnything about internal assessment support quality
WeakProvision below expectations in identified areasWhether individual departments differ sharply
Very WeakThe lowest published judgementHow a particular cohort actually performed
04

Scheduling, Gulf Standard Time and families who travel

A near me search is partly a search about convenience, and convenience in a Diploma year is mostly about whether a session survives the calendar. Pearl Jumeira households often travel between terms and sometimes during them, and the Diploma does not pause for it.

All sessions here are set in Gulf Standard Time, which is the reference the school's own deadlines use, so a weekly slot has a fixed relationship to the student's week rather than to a tutor's convenience. For a family spending part of a holiday elsewhere, the slot can hold rather than lapse, which is the difference between resuming in September where the student left off and spending the first fortnight re-establishing ground. A visiting arrangement cannot do that at any price.

Within term time the constraint is the afternoon. Schools in this cluster finish between about 2:45pm and 3:30pm, the causeway approach and the drive home take the next thirty to forty-five minutes, and activity programmes run to roughly 6pm. The practical Diploma windows are an early slot around 4:45pm where activities allow, and a reliable one from 6:45pm. Nothing useful happens after about 8:30pm on a school night, particularly in quantitative subjects.

One more scheduling feature of the Diploma deserves planning rather than reaction. The second year contains a term in which internal assessment deadlines, mocks and the densest content coincide. Everybody knows this term is coming and almost nobody books for it in advance. A family that reserves an extra weekly hour for that term in September pays the same as one that scrambles for it in January and gets a materially better arrangement, because in January the people with the right experience are already committed.

05

Coverage, match time and the honest version of availability

No platform covers every Diploma subject at every level in every slot, and the ones implying otherwise are the ones to question. Among the competitor pages reviewed for this market, none discloses a coverage limit, and several route UAE families to contact numbers outside the country without saying so. Stating the limits is therefore unusual enough to be worth doing plainly.

The position is as follows. Well-covered subjects are matched quickly, and that includes most Standard Level teaching and Higher Level biology, English A, History and Economics. Tighter subjects, particularly Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and Chemistry at Higher Level, are matched but may involve a wait for a specific slot. Narrow requests, including several Language B options and supervision-level support for Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay, may not be available at all, and in those cases the answer given is no rather than an assurance.

Nothing is taken on account against a match that has not been confirmed. That sounds like a small commitment and it is the one most often broken in this market, because a deposit against a hoped-for match converts a parent's urgency into revenue. Where a suitable tutor cannot be found, the useful thing a platform can do is say so quickly enough for the family to look elsewhere.

The table sets out what to expect. Reading it alongside the supply table earlier in this page gives a Pearl Jumeira family something a proximity search cannot: a realistic picture of what is available, where the gaps are, and how long a match is likely to take for the particular subject and level their child is sitting.

06

The boundary on assessed work, stated before anyone asks

  • Criteria teaching, content teaching and feedback on the student's own draft are legitimate
  • Writing, redrafting or supplying any part of assessed work is not
  • Research questions are narrowed by questioning, never handed over
  • Official syllabus and paper material is linked rather than copied

Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment with a fixed percentage of the grade, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge sit alongside them. All of it must be the student's own work. On a page about finding a tutor, this belongs near the decision rather than in small print, because it is one of the few questions whose answer separates providers decisively.

What legitimate support looks like is substantial and worth paying for. Explaining what each criterion rewards and how the marks are allocated. Teaching the subject content the student has chosen to work with. Asking the questions that reduce an unanswerable research question to an answerable one. Showing how an argument or a calculation should be structured. Reading a draft the student has written and saying what is absent from it. For most students that is the highest-value work available in the programme, because the criteria are published and the failure modes are predictable.

What is not available here, at any price, is production. No part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay will be written, drafted, redrafted or supplied, and no research question will be handed over for adoption. At least one operator ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Submitting purchased work is a malpractice risk that falls on the student rather than on the seller, and the consequence attaches to a transcript rather than to an invoice.

A related limit concerns materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB and to the examination boards, and are referenced and linked rather than redistributed. A tutor who offers a folder of copied material has answered a question about their standards that nobody had to ask.

07

What it costs, and what the proximity premium is buying

Market figures belong on this page because they are part of the availability argument rather than separate from it. In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to AED 500. Online qualified subject tutors are published at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IB rates from AED 200 and TutorChase AED 270 for specialist work. Premium examiner-branded providers reach AED 500 to AED 650, with BartyED at AED 650. Those figures belong to the named providers and were read in October 2026.

The point for a Pearl Jumeira family is what the upper bands are actually paying for. On an island served by one causeway, a substantial part of an in-home rate covers a drive across Al Wasl Road and a queue onto the island, and nothing in that drive improves a Higher Level chemistry session. Meanwhile the thing that does improve it, experience of the specific assessment, is not reliably priced at all, because the general and specialist pools quote similar numbers.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared papers, working annotated and kept, and recordings available. Nothing in the rate pays for travel, and the match is made on subject and level.

Some families will still prefer a person in the room, and that is a real preference rather than an error. The recommendation on this page is only that the choice be made with the supply picture visible. Run the four questions in the earlier section on whoever is reachable. If the answers are specific and confident, the local option is a good one. If they are general, the premium is paying for the causeway.

Where we tutor

Pearl Jumeira and the communities nearby

Pearl Jumeira is reached by one causeway from the Jumeirah 1 shoreline. The supply arithmetic set out here applies along the whole coastal strip, with the island as its sharpest case.

Pearl Jumeira

Villa plots on reclaimed land with a single access road. The causeway is the binding constraint on any visiting arrangement, and it is why a Higher Level request here so often returns a general tutor.

Jumeirah 1

The mainland district the causeway feeds into. The nearest IB school options are a short drive from here, which also means the nearest experienced Diploma teachers are already committed in the late afternoon.

LA Mer

The beachfront development immediately south, in the same school cluster. A useful comparison: identical Higher Level requests return a slightly larger reachable set, because there is no island approach.

Jumeirah 2

Larger plots inland with a mix of British-curriculum and continuum families. The split matters for availability, since most tutors in this area have more British-curriculum experience than Diploma experience.

City Walk

Dense low-rise apartments across Al Wasl Road. Visitor access and basement parking add minutes at each end of a visit, with the same narrowing effect on who will accept a single booking.

Al Wasl

The corridor every inbound tutor crosses, taking thirty to fifty minutes in the late afternoon. That time is the reason a Higher Level specialist in Al Barsha will decline a Tuesday 5pm booking on the island.

Jumeirah 3

Towards Umm Suqeim, with longer internal drives. For Diploma families here the online format is a scheduling decision as much as a supply one.

Umm Suqeim

Several large schools and a deep general tutoring market. Also the clearest demonstration that a deep general market can remain thin on specific Higher Level subjects.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level together

A request for a physics tutor and a request for a Higher Level physics tutor are different requests, and only the second can be matched usefully. We ask for subject, level and which internal assessment is next, because those three facts determine who should take the booking.

  2. 02

    Run the four Diploma questions

Use the questions in this page on anyone you are considering, us included. Internal assessment percentage and criterion names, what changes between Standard and Higher Level, where extended response marks are lost, and what a tutor may do with a draft. Listen for immediacy.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full session at no charge, taught rather than pitched, with the student. The tutor works from recent marked work or a current draft and begins teaching. One trial lesson per student, before any booking; if the match is wrong, say so and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

Book the heavy term in September

The second Diploma year contains a term where internal assessment deadlines, mocks and the densest content coincide. Reserving an extra weekly hour for it in advance costs the same as scrambling in January and secures a better match, because by January the experienced tutors are committed.

  5. 05

Accept a stated limit where one exists

For narrow subjects and for supervision-level core component support, the answer may be a match time or an honest no. Nothing is taken on account against an unconfirmed match, because a family that needs to look elsewhere should be told quickly enough to do it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Supply described honestly, subject by subject

This page says where Higher Level depth is easy to find in Dubai and where it is tight, including the subjects where the answer is unflattering. A family making a decision needs the real picture more than it needs encouragement.

Matched on level, not just subject

Higher Level is a different depth with different papers rather than extra chapters, so the match is made on the level actually being sat. A tutor who has taught the subject elsewhere knows the content and may not know the assessment, which is where grades are lost.

The pool rather than the causeway

For a curriculum carrying 7 per cent of Dubai enrolment, the difference between the whole pool and the reachable fraction is the difference between a specialist and somebody doing their best. Removing the distance condition is what keeps the level condition satisfiable.

Coverage limits disclosed before payment

Where a subject is narrow the answer is a stated match time or a decline, and nothing is held on account against an unconfirmed match. None of the competitor pages reviewed in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

A firm boundary on assessed work

Criteria taught, content taught, feedback given on the student's own drafts, and nothing written or supplied. The answer is stated before anyone asks, because hesitation on that question is the most informative thing a parent can notice in a tutoring conversation.

Regulator information from the regulator

KHDA inspection bands are explained with what they do and do not measure, and the full emirate regulator map is named. ADEK goes unmentioned by every competitor reviewed here, which is a gap worth closing rather than a claim worth making.

“Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry past-paper practice made the difference. The tutor was honest about pace and progress, and the lesson notes were structured.”

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Pearl Jumeira: your questions answered

Why does searching for an IB tutor near me in Pearl Jumeira return mostly general tutors?+

Because a proximity search sorts by distance and the local teaching workforce follows enrolment. The International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum, across 227 schools and 387,441 students. A list sorted by who can reach the island will therefore be dominated by British-curriculum experience however the listings describe themselves. The condition that actually affects the grade, experience of the Diploma at the level being sat, is invisible to the search.

Is Higher Level really different enough to matter when choosing a tutor?+

Yes, and it is the single most useful thing to specify. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra chapters; it carries additional content, more teaching hours and in some subjects an additional paper, and the depth expected in extended responses differs. A tutor comfortable at Standard Level may be working at the edge of their experience at Higher. Asking what specifically changes between the two levels in that subject will tell you quickly whether the person has taught both.

Which Diploma subjects are hardest to find Higher Level experience for in Dubai?+

Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and Chemistry are the tightest. The first because Paper 3 and the proof-style reasoning do not transfer from other maths teaching, so a deep general maths market does not help. The second because medicine and dentistry pathways concentrate demand at Higher Level. Physics is limited relative to demand. Thinnest of all are Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, because few people have supervised either, despite every Diploma student needing both.

What single question best reveals whether someone has really taught the Diploma?+

What percentage of this subject's grade is the internal assessment, and what are the criteria called? Every Diploma subject has one, the percentage is fixed and published, and the criteria have names. Somebody who has prepared students for it answers in a sentence. Somebody who has not talks about coursework in general terms. A close second: what may a tutor do with a draft, and what may they not? Hesitation there is the most informative response in the whole conversation.

Does a high KHDA inspection band mean my child's Higher Level subject is well taught?+

Not necessarily, and this is worth understanding before using a report as a proxy. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, and its six-band scale runs from Outstanding through Very Good, Good and Acceptable to Weak and Very Weak. A band judges a whole school across many measures. It cannot tell you how many students took a specific subject at Higher Level last year, or whether the teacher of it changed in August. Ask the school those questions directly.

If we move from Dubai to another emirate, does the school regulator change?+

Dubai is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah its own Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah come under the federal Ministry of Education. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

Does IB Gram have a tutor who can come to Pearl Jumeira?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared papers, annotated working kept after the session and recordings available. The reason this page argues for that arrangement is supply rather than preference: for a curriculum at 7 per cent of local enrolment, the reachable pool and the real pool are very different sizes.

Can a weekly slot survive a family travelling during the Diploma?+

With an online arrangement, yes, and that is a practical rather than a cosmetic advantage. Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time, which is the reference the school's own deadlines use, so a slot holds rather than lapses when a household is away for part of a holiday. The alternative is resuming in September and spending the first fortnight re-establishing ground already covered. A visiting arrangement cannot continue through travel at any price.

When should a Pearl Jumeira family book the second Diploma year's extra hour?+

In September of the first year, not in January of the second. Every Diploma contains a term where internal assessment deadlines, mocks and the densest content coincide, and everybody knows it is coming. A family reserving an additional weekly hour for that term in advance pays the same as one scrambling when it arrives, and gets a materially better match, because by then the tutors with the right Higher Level experience are already committed to other students.

What times of day actually work for a Diploma session on the island?+

Two windows. An early slot around 4:45pm where the activity programme allows it, which is the strongest option because nobody is tired yet and which has to be claimed in September. And a reliable slot from 6:45pm, after food, which survives the whole year. School in this cluster ends between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and the causeway approach plus the drive home takes thirty to forty-five minutes. After about 8:30pm quantitative subjects stop holding on a school night.

What may a tutor legitimately do with an internal assessment draft?+

Explain what each criterion rewards and how the marks are allocated, teach the subject content involved, ask the questions that narrow an unanswerable research question into an answerable one, show how an argument or calculation should be structured, and give feedback on what the student has already written. What a tutor may not do is write, draft, redraft or supply any part of it, or hand over a research question. Submitting purchased work is a malpractice risk carried by the student alone.

How long does it take to match a Higher Level chemistry tutor for this area?+

Usually quickly, with the caveat that a specific weekday slot may involve a wait, because Higher Level chemistry is among the tightest supply points in Dubai. Demand concentrates there through medicine and dentistry pathways. Where a particular slot cannot be filled, the answer given is a stated match time rather than a reassurance, and nothing is taken on account against a match that has not been confirmed. Where no suitable tutor exists, that is said rather than filled with a generalist.

What does an IB tutor cost in Dubai, and is the island premium worth it?+

In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate's 2026 table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350. Online qualified subject tutors are published at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200 and TutorChase AED 270. Premium examiner-branded providers reach AED 650, with BartyED at that figure. On a single-causeway island a large part of the in-home premium covers the approach, which improves nothing about the teaching.

Is there an advantage in a tutor who has taught at my child's school?+

There can be, and there is a constraint worth knowing. Familiarity with a school's internal deadlines and teaching order is genuinely useful. However, in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. So ask whether the person teaches at your child's school, and expect an immediate answer.

Specify the level, test for the programme, then weigh the distance

A near me search cannot see the thing that matters for the Diploma, so the useful move is to supply it yourself. Name the subject and the level together. Run the four questions on anyone reachable, including us, and listen for how quickly the internal assessment percentage and criterion names arrive. Then decide whether a premium for somebody who can cross the causeway on a weekday afternoon buys anything a Higher Level specialist elsewhere does not. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with coverage limits stated before any booking and a free trial lesson first.
