IB Home Tutor in Pearl Jumeira

Hiring an IB home tutor in Pearl Jumeira is a monthly decision rather than an hourly one, and the monthly figures are where the market gets interesting. Published packages in Dubai run from around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions to AED 1,599 and AED 1,799 for four in-home visits. This page works through what each of those buys for a Diploma student, what the premium on a single-causeway island actually covers, and which lines of the bill do nothing. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Pearl Jumeira

Think in months, not hours, when budgeting IB support in Pearl Jumeira

Almost every page competing for this search quotes an hourly rate, and an hourly rate is the least useful number a parent can hold. Diploma tutoring is not bought by the hour. It is bought for a term, or for the two years of the programme, and the figure that matters is what leaves the account each month. The published monthly packages in Dubai make the comparison unusually clear: roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four in-home sessions of two hours each. Same monthly spend, two very different weeks.

Translated into a Diploma year, those figures become decisions. A family paying the lower monthly figure across the two years of the programme is spending in the region of AED 16,000 to AED 19,000 if they run through the holidays, or closer to AED 14,000 on a school-term basis. The in-home figure roughly doubles that, for half as many contact points. Neither is a small sum, and both are worth planning deliberately rather than accumulating session by session. Families who never set the figure in advance tend to arrive at a larger one by accident, because each individual booking looks reasonable on its own.

What complicates the arithmetic in Pearl Jumeira specifically is the island. The community sits on reclaimed land off the Jumeirah 1 shoreline with a single causeway serving it, which means every in-home booking carries a travel cost that is not an average Dubai travel cost. A tutor coming from Al Barsha, Business Bay or Mirdif joins the Jumeirah Beach Road traffic and then joins one queue onto the island. In the late afternoon that is a predictable thirty to fifty minutes each way, and it is priced into the hourly figure whether or not anybody itemises it.

There is a second cost that nobody quotes, which is the value of a session that does not happen. Across a two-year Diploma, in-home bookings lost or shortened to traffic are a recurring line. Most families absorb a handful without noticing. In the term when the internal assessments are due and the mocks are sat, a missed session is not neutral, because the sequence of work matters more then than at any other point in the programme.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The honest case for that is the one this page makes with numbers rather than adjectives: the same monthly budget buys roughly twice the contact, the hour billed is the hour taught, and the tutor can be chosen for having taught the subject at Higher Level rather than for living within reach of the causeway.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Pearl Jumeira families draw on schools across the Jumeirah coast and inland, where the IB continuum and the British curriculum sit side by side. These are the programmes the costings on this page apply to.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. Each subject carries an internal assessment with a fixed percentage of the grade. The two-year structure is what makes monthly budgeting the right frame, since the workload is predictable and uneven in known ways.

In Dubai the Diploma accounted for 7 per cent of private school enrolment in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum, out of 387,441 students across 227 schools. That minority position matters to a Pearl Jumeira family budgeting for tutoring: the local pool of tutors who have actually taught Higher Level subjects is proportionally smaller than the pool of general tutors, while rates for both tend to look similar.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The five years before the Diploma in continuum schools, assessed against four criteria per subject rather than by examination. Tutoring here is cheaper per month in practice because one targeted hour usually does the work, and because the criteria respond to a bounded intervention.

Families on the island often start tutoring in MYP 4 or 5 and carry it into the Diploma, which is the arrangement that produces the lowest total cost. The alternative, starting in the second Diploma year when the internal assessments and mocks collide, compresses the same spend into a shorter window and buys less with it.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

The earliest stage of the continuum, inquiry-led and assessed on process. Tutoring at this level in Dubai is typically about reading fluency, number confidence or settling after a school move rather than about any syllabus, and the budget band that suits it is the lowest one.

Paying specialist Diploma rates for primary support is one of the clearest overspends in this market. Published budget online rates start at AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik, and for most primary needs that band is appropriate and honest about what it provides.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Diploma student takes six subjects and a tutoring budget cannot cover six. These are the subjects Pearl Jumeira families most often fund, with a realistic sense of how many monthly hours each tends to absorb.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most funded subject in this community and the one that most often needs the whole of a weekly hour. Higher Level adds a third paper and the proof-style reasoning that students find hardest to self-teach, which is why it rarely compresses into a shared slot.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Lighter on abstraction and heavier on modelling, statistics and technology use. Students often need less of a tutor's time here but need it at specific points, particularly around the statistical content and the exploration.

Physics

HL and SL

Absorbs budget unevenly: manageable in the first year, then demanding in the term when the fields content and the investigation arrive together. Families who plan for a second hour in that term spend the same as those who panic, with a better result.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The subject with the strongest case for two shorter sessions rather than one long one, because the quantitative half and the organic half need different kinds of practice. In-home pricing pushes families the other way, towards one long visit.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy and recall-dependent, which means it rewards frequent short contact over occasional long sessions. The least well served subject by a monthly package built around four two-hour visits.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation are where the marks sit, and both are teachable quickly. Often needs a short block rather than a standing weekly hour, which makes it a good candidate for a term of support rather than two years.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the written assessments reward structure and close reading. A student who writes well generally needs occasional feedback rather than weekly teaching, and over-funding this subject is a common pattern here.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-based and command-term sensitive. Students lose marks by writing knowledge where the question asks for evaluation, which is a bounded problem that responds to a handful of sessions rather than a standing booking.

History

HL and SL

Argument construction and source evaluation carry the grade. Needs feedback on written work more than it needs explanation, so the useful arrangement is fewer, longer gaps between sessions with real writing in between.

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and internal assessments

Core, across all subjects

The components that eat a budget quietly, because each needs blocks rather than hours. A tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own drafts; no part of any of them may be written for the student.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three monthly arrangements cover most Diploma tutoring decisions on the island. All teaching is one-to-one over live video.

One subject, weekly, across the two years

The lowest total-cost arrangement and the one most Pearl Jumeira families should start with. A single weekly hour in the subject that carries the most risk, held from the start of Year 12 through to the final weeks, with the hours tapering at the end rather than rising.

  • One subject, one fixed weekly slot
  • Held from the first Diploma term
  • Hours reduce in the final weeks on purpose
  • Written note after each session

Two subjects in the heavy term

A second subject added only for the term when internal assessments, mocks and the heaviest content coincide, then dropped again. Costs more for a defined period and less overall than carrying two standing bookings for two years.

  • Added for a named term, not indefinitely
  • Triggered by the mock results, not by anxiety
  • Dropped again once the term ends
  • Second subject chosen from marked work

Assessment-block sessions

Longer sessions reserved for the internal assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, placed in the calendar during the lighter first-year terms. The student writes everything; the tutor teaches the criteria and responds to drafts.

  • Booked ahead in the first Diploma year
  • Criteria explained with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own writing only
  • Keeps the weekly hour free for syllabus work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Pearl Jumeira

01

The monthly numbers, and what each package actually delivers

Set the hourly rates aside for a moment and look at what the market charges per month, because that is the unit a Diploma family commits to. Published monthly packages in Dubai cluster into a small number of shapes, and the table sets them out with the figures as published and read in October 2026. None of these is an IB Gram price list.

The headline comparison is the one worth sitting with. Around AED 799 a month buys eight online sessions. AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month buys four in-home sessions of two hours each. The total contact time is similar; the number of occasions is not. For a Diploma student, occasions matter more than minutes, because the work that produces progress happens between sessions and each session is the point at which it gets marked and corrected. Four occasions a month gives a student one chance a week at best to have work looked at. Eight gives two.

The second thing the table shows is how quickly the figures scale. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A family funding two subjects at the specialist end for the second Diploma year is looking at a materially different number from a family funding one subject from the start of Year 12, and the second arrangement usually produces the better result.

What none of these figures contains is the cost of the sessions that do not happen. That is the line a monthly package conceals and an island community feels most acutely, and it is dealt with in its own section below.

What the Pearl Jumeira travel premium actually buys

  • In-home rates: AED 180-500 per hour, travel included, per Bestimate and independent tutors
  • A single causeway means thirty to fifty minutes each way in the late afternoon
  • The premium pays for distance, not for subject depth
  • Requiring proximity and Higher Level experience together often leaves nobody

In-home tutoring in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to AED 500. Those figures are real and they are not inflated by anybody acting in bad faith. A tutor who spends ninety minutes driving in order to teach for sixty has to price the ninety minutes somewhere.

On this island the geography sharpens it. Pearl Jumeira is reached by one causeway from the Jumeirah 1 shoreline. A tutor arriving from Al Barsha, Business Bay or further east joins Jumeirah Beach Road or Al Wasl Road at the end of the school day and then joins a single queue onto the island. Thirty to fifty minutes each way is a reasonable late-afternoon expectation, and the return trip is often worse. That is the premium, itemised.

The question is what a family receives in exchange for it, and the honest answer is: a person in the room, and a smaller choice of person. Requiring somebody to physically reach this island at a fixed hour on a fixed weekday narrows the available set to those who live close enough, are free then, and are willing to make the trip. Narrow it further by requiring that they have taught Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or marked the chemistry investigation criteria, and the set can empty entirely. What frequently happens next is that a capable general tutor is engaged at a specialist price.

That trade is worth making for some families and not for others, and nobody should pretend otherwise. What should not happen is making it without seeing it. The premium is not a quality signal; it is a distance signal, and the two are routinely confused in this market because nothing on a competitor's page separates them.

03

Online against in-home for an island community, line by line

This is the comparison the whole page turns on, so it is worth making concrete rather than rhetorical. The table sets the two formats against the things that differ for a family living on reclaimed land with one road in.

Two rows deserve particular attention. The first is sessions lost or cut short. Across a two-year Diploma this is not a rounding error for an in-home arrangement on this island, and the losses cluster in exactly the wrong term: the one when internal assessments are due, mocks are sat and the heaviest content is taught. A missed session in the first Diploma term is inconvenient. A missed session in the week a draft is due is expensive in a way no refund covers.

The second is the ability to add a second subject for a single term. The heavy-term arrangement described earlier depends on being able to add an hour for twelve weeks and then stop. With a visiting tutor that means finding a second person willing to make the same journey, at the same hour, for one term only, which in practice is why families either over-commit for two years or do without.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared papers, annotated working kept after the session, and recordings available. The case for that is the table, not an adjective.

The four lines of an IB tutoring bill that do nothing

Overspending on Diploma support in this community is rarely a matter of paying too much per hour. It is a matter of buying the wrong things, and the same four appear repeatedly.

The first is the two-hour block. It exists because a tutor who has driven across the city and onto the island needs the trip to be worth making. It does not exist because a sixteen-year-old does productive quantitative work for 120 consecutive minutes. Attention on technical material degrades well before that, and the second half of a long session routinely becomes supervised homework at a teaching rate. Two shorter occasions, with work attempted in between, teach more and cost the same.

The second is funding subjects the student is already fine in. Six Diploma subjects create six anxieties, and it is tempting to cover the lot. A student scoring well in English A and funded weekly in it is paying for reassurance. The test is simple and it is the marked work: if the lost marks in a subject are not concentrated anywhere, there is nothing for a tutor to target, and the money belongs in the subject where they are.

The third is starting in Year 13. The first Diploma year is the cheap year, when content is lighter, the mathematics is manageable and the internal assessments can be done properly. A family that funds one weekly hour from September of Year 12 spends less across the programme than one that funds two hours a week from January of Year 13, and ends up in a better position. The compressed version pays for urgency.

The fourth is buying hours where a diagnosis would do. A single paid session spent reading a marked mock script and producing a topic list with mark values attached frequently shows that the problem is narrower than it looked. That hour is the most useful one in the entire budget, and it is the one families almost never buy first.

05

Tutoring cost set against the rest of a Dubai school bill

  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • Dubai: 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25
  • The IB accounted for 7 per cent of enrolment; the UK curriculum 37 per cent
  • Seven new schools and 16,846 new places arrive with the 2026-27 intake

Tutoring is one line in a larger education budget, and in Dubai that budget has recently been stable in a way worth planning against. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total.

The market around that decision continues to grow. Dubai had 387,441 students in 227 private schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, following six openings in 2025-26 and a 6 per cent rise in enrolment.

For a Pearl Jumeira family two things follow. First, a stable fee position means a tutoring budget can be set for two years rather than revised annually, which favours the steady weekly arrangement over reactive block-buying. Second, the Diploma remains a minority curriculum at 7 per cent of enrolment, which means the supply of tutors who have actually taught Higher Level subjects is proportionally thinner than the supply of tutors generally, while the rates quoted for both look similar. Price, in this market, does not reliably signal subject depth.

That is the practical reason to interrogate experience rather than rate. Ask which Higher Level subjects a tutor has taught, which internal assessment criteria they have marked against, and how many Diploma cohorts they have taken through. None of those questions costs anything, and the answers separate the two groups that the price does not.

06

Verifying who you are paying, before the first monthly invoice

A monthly commitment deserves one round of checks, and in the UAE those checks are short and free. Private tutoring is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is granted free of charge for two years.

Eligibility is wider than families expect, which is why a missing permit is a choice rather than an obstacle. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fees stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule has been published, any specific figure quoted to you should be treated with caution.

Two related facts are worth knowing. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai is legally distinct from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, obtained with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, a restriction echoed by the MoHRE permit's code of conduct.

The parent's version is two questions, asked before any monthly arrangement begins: does this person hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and is my child enrolled at the school where they teach? Neither is an awkward question and neither costs anything.

07

What the money may not buy: internal assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

  • Criteria teaching, content teaching and feedback on the student's own drafts are legitimate
  • Writing, redrafting or supplying any part of assessed work is not
  • A research question is narrowed by questioning, never handed over
  • Syllabus and past-paper material is referenced and linked, not redistributed

The components that most tempt a budget are the ones where spending is most tightly constrained, and this needs stating plainly on a page about cost. Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment with a fixed share of the grade. The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge sit alongside them. All of it must be the student's own work.

What a tutor may legitimately be paid for is substantial and worth buying. Explaining what each assessment criterion rewards and what the mark allocations are. Teaching the subject content the student has chosen to work with. Showing how a calculation or an argument is structured. Asking the questions that narrow an unmanageable research question into one that can actually be answered. Reading a draft the student has written and saying what is missing from it. For most students this is the highest-value tutoring in the programme, because the criteria are published and the failures are predictable.

What may not be paid for, here or anywhere, is production. No part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay will be written, drafted, redrafted or supplied, and no research question will be handed over for adoption. At least one operator ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Submitting purchased work is a malpractice risk that falls on the student rather than on the seller, and the consequence sits on a transcript rather than on an invoice.

A related point about materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB and to the examination boards. A tutor references and links them; a tutor who arrives offering a folder of copied material has disclosed their standards before teaching anything. Neither of these limits is a marketing position. They are the reason the honest version of assessment support takes longer and is the only version on offer.

Where we tutor

Pearl Jumeira and the communities around it

Pearl Jumeira is a reclaimed island community reached by a single causeway from the Jumeirah 1 shoreline. The costings here apply with small variations across the surrounding coastal communities.

Pearl Jumeira

Villa plots on reclaimed land, reached by one access road. For in-home bookings that single entry point is the whole travel story, and it is the reason quotations here sit towards the upper end of the Dubai band.

LA Mer

The beachfront development immediately south on the mainland shore. Families here face the same tutor-pool question without the causeway, and local quotations run slightly lower for that reason alone.

Jumeirah 1

The villa district the causeway feeds into, and the source of most of the island's school runs. Tutors quoting for Pearl Jumeira typically price it as Jumeirah 1 plus the island approach.

Jumeirah 2

Larger plots inland with many Diploma families. A useful comparison point: identical tutoring quoted here is often cheaper than on the island, for reasons that have nothing to do with teaching.

City Walk

Dense low-rise apartments across Al Wasl Road. Visitor registration and basement parking add time at both ends, which is the apartment equivalent of the island premium.

Al Wasl

The corridor every visiting tutor crosses to reach the coast. Thirty to fifty minutes each way in the late afternoon, which is the unpaid hour that sits inside an in-home rate.

Jumeirah 3

Further west towards Umm Suqeim, with longer internal drives. Online delivery flattens the difference between here and the island entirely.

Umm Suqeim

Home to several large schools and the heaviest afternoon congestion on this stretch. A tutor serving both Umm Suqeim and Pearl Jumeira in one afternoon is pricing two drives into both bookings.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Pearl Jumeira

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Al Wasl

  • Safa British School
  • Horizon English School Dubai
  • Latifa School for Girls

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Al Jaddaf

The IB-dense clusters further inland, where several schools run the continuum through to the Diploma. Longer drives from the island mean families here more often choose online delivery for reasons of timing rather than cost.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Set a monthly figure before looking at tutors

Decide what the household will commit per month for the Diploma, using the published package shapes as a reference. That number, rather than an hourly rate, determines the sensible arrangement, and it stops a budget accumulating session by session into something nobody chose.

  2. 02

    Buy one diagnostic hour first

A single paid session spent reading marked work and producing a topic list with mark values attached. It is the most useful hour in the budget and it regularly shows that the problem is narrower than it looked, which changes what the monthly figure should be spent on.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full session at no charge, taught rather than pitched, with the student. One trial lesson per student, before any monthly commitment is made. If the match is wrong, say so and nothing is owed; the point is to find out before a recurring payment starts.

  4. 04

Fund one subject from the start of Year 12

One weekly hour in the subject carrying the most risk, held from the first Diploma term. This is the lowest total-cost arrangement in the programme, because the first year is the cheap year and the second year is where compression gets expensive.

  5. 05

Add a second subject only for the heavy term

When internal assessments, mocks and the densest content coincide, a second hour is a sensible purchase for a named term. It is dropped again afterwards. Carrying two standing bookings for two years costs more and achieves less.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Monthly figures published with their sources

Every AED number on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and dated to when it was read. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars, which is not what a Dubai family transacts in.

The travel premium separated from the quality premium

A higher in-home rate on a single-causeway island reflects distance, not subject depth. Saying so is more useful than implying the opposite, and it lets a family decide whether the person in the room is worth the smaller choice of person.

Twice the contact for the same monthly spend

Published packages show roughly eight online sessions against four in-home visits at comparable monthly cost. For a Diploma student the number of occasions matters more than total minutes, because each occasion is when work gets marked and corrected.

Experience interrogated rather than priced

Because price does not reliably signal depth in this market, matching is done on which Higher Level subjects a tutor has taught and which internal assessment criteria they have marked against. Those questions cost nothing and separate what the rate does not.

Advice to spend less when that is the answer

Funding a subject with no concentrated mark losses buys reassurance. A diagnostic session that recommends dropping a booking is doing its job. No grade or improvement is guaranteed here, because none honestly can be.

Clear about where we do not go

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are offered only in India. That appears near the top of this page rather than at the end of a sales call, because a monthly commitment should not begin with a surprise.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Pearl Jumeira: your questions answered

What does an IB home tutor in Pearl Jumeira cost per month rather than per hour?+

Published Dubai packages give the clearest answer. In-home arrangements are commonly quoted at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. Online packages appear at around AED 799 a month for eight sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are market figures from the named providers, read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

Why are tutoring quotes higher for Pearl Jumeira than for Jumeirah 2?+

Because of the causeway, not the teaching. The island is reached by one access road from the Jumeirah 1 shoreline, so a tutor coming from Al Barsha or Business Bay joins the coastal traffic and then joins a single queue onto the island. Thirty to fifty minutes each way is a reasonable late-afternoon expectation, and that unpaid time is priced into the hourly figure. Identical tutoring quoted a few streets inland is often cheaper for reasons that have nothing to do with subject knowledge.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a Pearl Jumeira villa?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, because in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Pearl Jumeira families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared papers, annotated working that is kept after the session, and recordings available. This page states that near the top rather than at the end of a call, because a monthly commitment should not start with a surprise about how lessons are delivered.

Is a two-hour session once a week better value than two single hours?+

Rarely, and the pricing reflects travel economics rather than teaching. A tutor who has driven across the city and onto the island needs the trip to be worth making, which is why monthly in-home packages are built around four long visits. Attention on technical Diploma material degrades well before 120 minutes, so the second half of a long session often becomes supervised homework at a teaching rate. Two shorter occasions, with work attempted in between, give the tutor something to mark.

How much should a family budget for the whole two-year Diploma?+

At the lower published monthly figure, one subject weekly across both years comes to roughly AED 14,000 on a term-time basis and closer to AED 16,000 to AED 19,000 if sessions run through the holidays. In-home arrangements at the published monthly rates roughly double that for half as many contact points. A specialist second subject added for one heavy term adds a few thousand. None of that is small, which is why the figure is better set in advance than accumulated session by session.

Which Diploma subject should a limited budget be spent on?+

The one where the marked work shows concentrated losses, which is usually not the one that feels hardest. Six subjects create six anxieties and a budget cannot cover six. The test is whether lost marks cluster anywhere: if they are spread thinly across a subject with no pattern, a tutor has nothing to target and the money belongs elsewhere. A single diagnostic hour on a marked mock script answers this better than any amount of discussion about which subject is hardest.

Is it cheaper to start Diploma tutoring in Year 12 or wait until Year 13?+

Starting in Year 12 is cheaper in total and more effective. The first Diploma year is the light year: content is more manageable, the mathematics has not yet compounded, and the internal assessments can be done properly rather than rescued. One weekly hour from September of Year 12 costs less across the programme than two weekly hours from January of Year 13, which is what families typically end up buying. The compressed version is paying for urgency rather than for teaching.

What is the single most useful hour to buy first?+

A diagnostic session on a marked mock or recent assessment, producing a topic list with approximate mark values attached. It is the hour families almost never buy first and the one that most often changes the plan, frequently by narrowing it. It converts a vague sense that a subject is going badly into a short list of specific, costed gaps, and that list is what makes the rest of the monthly budget a decision rather than a guess.

How many sessions get lost to traffic over a two-year in-home arrangement?+

Enough to matter, and nobody quotes it. For an island community served by one causeway, late-afternoon arrivals are unreliable in a predictable way, and across two Diploma years the cumulative loss of cancelled or shortened sessions is a real line in the cost. What makes it expensive is timing: losses cluster in the term when internal assessment drafts are due and mocks are sat, which is the point in the programme where the sequence of work matters most and a gap is hardest to recover.

Can a tutor help with my child's Extended Essay or internal assessments?+

With the criteria, the content and feedback on drafts, yes, and that is where most of the value sits. A tutor explains what each criterion rewards and its mark allocation, teaches the subject material involved, and asks the questions that narrow an unmanageable research question into an answerable one. A tutor does not write, draft, redraft or supply any part of it, and will not hand over a research question. Submitting purchased work is a malpractice risk carried entirely by the student.

How do I tell a Higher Level specialist from a general tutor at the same rate?+

By asking, because the price will not tell you. The IB accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, so the pool of tutors who have actually taught Higher Level subjects is proportionally thin while rates for general and specialist tutors look similar. Ask which Higher Level subjects they have taught, which internal assessment criteria they have marked against, and how many Diploma cohorts they have seen through. The answers separate the two groups quickly and cost nothing.

How do I check a tutor is permitted to teach privately in Dubai?+

Ask two questions before the first invoice. First, do they hold the MoHRE private tutor work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023? It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligibility covers school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, so lacking one is a choice. Second, is your child enrolled at the school where they teach, since the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school?

Are Dubai school fees rising, and should that change a tutoring budget?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. For a tutoring budget that stability is useful: it means a two-year figure can be set in advance rather than revised annually, which favours a steady weekly arrangement from the start of Year 12 over reactive block-buying in the second year.

Should an IB tutor be handing over copied IB subject guides and mark schemes?+

They should reference and link them rather than supply them. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB and to the examination boards, and the proper route is the official site or the school's own licensed access. A tutor arriving with a folder of copied material has told you something about their standards before teaching anything. Working through a paper the student has legitimately obtained, marked against the published criteria, needs nothing copied.

Set the monthly number, buy the diagnostic hour, then commit

Three steps in that order will save a Pearl Jumeira family more than any amount of rate comparison. Decide what the household will commit per month across the Diploma, using the published package shapes as a reference point. Spend one hour on a diagnosis from marked work, which regularly narrows the plan rather than widening it. Then commit to one subject weekly from the start of Year 12, adding a second only for the term when assessments and mocks collide. Take the free trial lesson first, which is taught rather than pitched. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
