IGCSE Home Tutor in Jumeirah Islands

An IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Islands has to fit into an evening that already contains a long journey home. No school sits inside these gates, so every child travels out and most arrive back between 15:40 and 16:50. This page works from that constraint: which slot survives the school run, what each term of Years 10 and 11 should target, and how we deliver lessons live online.

  • Session slots built from real arrival times, not from the school bell
  • A term-by-term plan for Years 10 and 11, not an open-ended arrangement
  • Tutors briefed on the exact syllabus code and tier
  • Live online on Gulf Standard Time, free trial session first

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Islands

The evening is the constraint, not the subject

Jumeirah Islands is a gated community of villas built around lakes, with a pavilion at its centre and no school inside the gates. That single fact shapes tutoring here more than anything academic. Every child leaves the community for school, most travelling to Jumeirah Village, The Meadows, Al Barsha or Al Sufouh, and the return journey puts them home between roughly 15:40 and 16:50 depending on the school and the route order.

So the first useful question is not which tutor, but which hour. A session booked at 16:30 sounds reasonable on paper and in practice begins before a fifteen-year-old has eaten, changed or stopped thinking about the bus. Sessions booked at the wrong hour are the commonest reason a tutoring arrangement quietly stops in week five, and it has nothing to do with the tutor's ability.

The second question is which term. IGCSE support is usually bought in the spring of Year 11, which is the most expensive point in the cycle and the one with the least room to work. The same money spent across Years 10 and 11 as a single weekly hour does considerably more, keeps the higher tier reachable while that decision is still open, and secures a slot before the demand arrives.

The third is the entry itself. Ask your school's exams officer for the syllabus code and tier in each subject, because Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE are examined differently and their past papers are not interchangeable. That email is free and it prevents the most expensive mistake in Dubai IGCSE tutoring, which is a competent tutor working from the wrong board's material.

On delivery we are direct. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are an India-only service, and there is no office or centre here either. What a Jumeirah Islands family gets is live online IGCSE tutoring: one tutor, one student, video, past papers shared on screen, scheduled around the arrival time that actually applies to your household.

It is worth saying what this page deliberately does not do. It does not describe our tutors as dedicated or passionate, because you cannot check either. It gives you the arrival times that decide your slot, the questions to put to your exams officer, the published rates in this market with the month we read them, and the two UAE rules that shape a Dubai timetable. If a section does not answer something, it should not be on the page.

That turns out to suit this community particularly well. Nobody has to add a second journey to an evening that already contains one, a reschedule is a slot swap rather than a negotiation, and the arrangement survives a family's travel and a change of school without the search starting again. The rest of this page is the practical detail: slots, terms, boards, subjects and what the market charges.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The UK-curriculum sequence has four stages, and the amount of support each needs differs sharply. The cheapest intervention is the earliest one.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary

Fractions, negative indices, algebraic beginnings, the habit of showing working, and writing an explanation that answers the question asked. Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October where a school uses them, and give an external reference point before any tiering decision is made.

Several Dubai schools set IGCSE tiering on Year 9 evidence, sometimes before the family has discussed it. For a household here, an hour a week in Year 9 is the least expensive way to keep the higher tier available.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, externally examined by Cambridge or Pearson. Grades decide sixth-form subject access and count towards Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track. Tiering caps the grade and removes content, which matters more than most families realise.

UAE candidates sit Cambridge's June and November series, or Pearson's May/June and November. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, so no plan here should be built around a February exam window.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

Three or four subjects, with the real step up being independence rather than content volume. Students who built working habits during IGCSE need less support here; those who were carried through Year 11 by intensive tutoring frequently need more.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one Advanced Level subject at grade E or better, or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade, alongside five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The alternative post-IGCSE route, offered by several schools within reach of these gates. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Students arriving from Extended IGCSE mathematics are usually well placed for Analysis and Approaches.

The IGCSE-to-Diploma step widens rather than narrows the workload, which catches families out. If that route is likely, use the summer after Year 11 for algebraic fluency rather than discovering the gap in October.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects Jumeirah Islands families ask about, with how many weekly hours each realistically needs and where the marks go. Use this to choose one subject rather than spreading an hour across three.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The subject with the strongest case for a full weekly hour across both years, because it compounds and because it gates sixth-form options. Extended work is method-led: multi-step questions where the setup is right and the middle is lost. Marked past papers under time do most of the work.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Needs more weeks than families budget for, because electricity and moments usually have to be rebuilt rather than revised. Three sessions on circuits alone is normal. The practical component rewards precise method description, which transfers to the other two sciences.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Good value per session, because the common weaknesses are procedural. Mole calculations need one reliable layout drilled; qualitative analysis and separation techniques carry marks that students drop only because the tests were never systematically learned.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Slower to shift than the other sciences because the problem is precision of language rather than content. Mark schemes want a named variable and a direction; students write that something improved. Budget weeks rather than money, and work against real mark schemes.

English Language and English as a Second Language

Core and Extended

Directed writing and reading comprehension respond quickly; composition takes longer. Worth confirming which English qualification your child is entered for, because students entered for the wrong one lose marks for reasons nobody explains to them.

Business Studies and Economics

Single tier

Level-of-response marking means an undeveloped correct point earns little, so the work is structure and evaluation rather than content. Technique transfers between the two subjects, which makes a short block unusually efficient if your child takes both.

Computer Science and ICT

Single tier

A thinner tutor pool, so slots are scarcer in the spring. Computer Science wants pseudocode, trace tables and algorithmic reasoning in a written paper; ICT is practical and applied. The two get confused at option time and the choice is hard to unwind in Year 11.

Additional Mathematics

Single tier

Taken alongside the main course by students heading for A Level Mathematics or the Diploma's Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Calculus arrives early and assumes complete algebraic fluency, so weaknesses from the main syllabus surface immediately.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

As the school requires

Compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of them. Excluded from the five subjects Ministry of Education equivalency counts, which affects where support money is best spent.

Exam conduct across all subjects

All tiers

Showing working so method marks survive a wrong answer, managing time across a paper, avoiding early rounding, and answering the command term asked. The cheapest marks available in any IGCSE subject, and the ones most often left untaught because they feel too obvious.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns that fit an evening with a long journey in it, all delivered live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

One subject, one fixed evening, from Year 10

The arrangement that survives. A single weekly hour in the subject that most affects sixth-form options, at a time chosen from your household's actual arrival pattern rather than the school timetable. Fixed for a term and then left alone, which is what makes it still running in May.

  • Same tutor, same slot, same syllabus code
  • Chosen from real arrival times, not the school bell
  • Keeps the higher tier reachable while it is open
  • Short written note after each session

Holiday intensive blocks

Short runs of sessions in the breaks, when the journey home is not competing for the hour. Four to eight sessions in a holiday can rebuild a topic properly in a way that term-time weekly work cannot, and the summer before Year 11 is the single best-timed block available.

  • Four to eight sessions, agreed as a block
  • Sessions can be longer because the day is free
  • Follows your time zone if you travel
  • Best used before Year 11 or after a weak mock

Weekend paper programme

A Saturday morning slot for a full past paper under timed conditions, with Sunday used to mark it together. This is the only ninety-minute block in a Jumeirah Islands week, and in the examination year it does more than two extra weekday hours would.

  • Saturday paper under exam conditions
  • Sunday session spent marking it line by line
  • Topic list rebuilt weekly from the errors
  • Weekday hour kept for targeted work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Islands

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Islands means here

  • One-to-one, live, online; no UAE home visits and no UAE centre
  • Matched to the syllabus code and tier your school uses
  • Slot built around your household's actual arrival time
  • Free trial session before any payment

Used locally, the phrase means one-to-one, board-specific teaching arranged for a child who lives in this community, without the family adding another journey to the evening. Since Jumeirah Islands has no school and no tuition centre inside the gates, the day already contains a long drive in each direction, and the appeal is obvious.

IB Gram meets that need differently. Lessons are live online, one tutor to one student, with the past paper open on a shared screen for both. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; our in-person service runs in India only, and there is no office or centre here either. That is stated on the page rather than in small print.

For a Year 10 or Year 11 student this works well. The age group can hold a focused hour on video, the work is written and shared rather than discussed, and the thing that actually moves an IGCSE grade is board-specific exam technique rather than physical presence. A tutor who knows what Pearson 4MA1's papers ask is worth more than one who lives nearby.

Where in-person provision genuinely wins is with a student who will not stay in the chair without an adult present, a household with nowhere quiet at six in the evening, or hands-on practical equipment work. In those cases hire locally and expect the premium: published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's survey, with independent home tutors at AED 200-500.

There is one further practical advantage for this community. Families here move house and change schools reasonably often, and an online arrangement survives both. A tutor who already knows a student's weak topics in September is worth considerably more than a new local tutor starting the diagnosis again from nothing.

02

Which slot actually survives the journey home

This is the operational detail that decides whether an arrangement lasts a term, and no competitor publishes it. Dubai schools finish between roughly 14:30 and 15:30. A Jumeirah Islands address is almost always on a bus route that serves two or three other communities first, so the return leg is longer than the distance suggests.

The result is arrivals home between about 15:40 and 16:50, depending on the school and where your community sits in the route order. Add time to eat and change, and 17:00 becomes the dependable weekday start, with 17:30 more comfortable for anyone travelling from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh.

Because bus routes are built around schools rather than around communities, two households inside the same gates can have genuinely different windows. Ask your school's transport office for your own route timings rather than copying a neighbour's slot, since twenty minutes is the difference between a session that works and one spent waking up.

The Red Line station on the edge of Jumeirah Lakes Towers is a short drive from here and worth mentioning because it looks relevant and is not. It is useful for an older teenager's independence and for after-school activities. It makes no difference to a tutoring timetable, because the session happens at home either way.

During Ramadan this changes again: school hours shorten, households run later, and a post-Iftar slot or a late-morning weekend session usually works better than anything at five in the afternoon. We reschedule rather than cancel, because the June series does not move to accommodate the calendar.

03

What each term of Years 10 and 11 should target

Most IGCSE tutoring is bought reactively, after a report or a mock, which means it arrives at the most expensive point in the cycle with the least room to act. A term-by-term plan costs the same per hour and does considerably more, because each stage of the two years has a different useful target.

In the autumn of Year 10 the target is foundations and tier security: the algebra, arithmetic and written-explanation habits the whole course rests on, plus keeping the higher tier available while that decision is still open. In the spring the target is keeping pace with the school's scheme of work and closing gaps as they appear rather than letting them compound.

The summer between Years 10 and 11 is the most under-used opportunity in the whole cycle. With nothing else in the diary, a block of four to eight sessions can rebuild a topic properly, which term-time weekly work struggles to do. It also secures a weekly slot before Year 11 demand fills the early evenings across the city.

In the autumn of Year 11 the work shifts from content to timed past papers for the exact syllabus code, marked together. By the mock window the marked paper becomes the plan: which question types fail and whether the cause is content, method or misreading. In the final weeks it is papers and exam conduct, nothing else.

The table sets this out stage by stage. It is written so you can decide in September what you are buying in February, rather than discovering in February that you should have decided in September.

04

Get the board and the tier before you spend anything

This is free and it prevents the most expensive mistake available. Email your school's exams officer and ask for the syllabus code and tier for each subject. You should get back something like 0580 Extended or 4MA1 Higher. Departments within one school sometimes use different boards for different subjects, so ask per subject rather than assuming one answer.

The reason it matters is that Cambridge and Pearson examine the same content differently. Cambridge IGCSE tiers many subjects into Core and Extended; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses Foundation and Higher in some subjects and offers modular entry in others. Calculator rules, paper counts and the way practical skills are assessed all differ between them.

A tutor working from the wrong board's past papers will teach competently, your child will work hard, and the grade will not move. Parents typically discover it after a term. One email prevents it, and a tutor who can quote the paper structure for your child's code back to you without looking it up is demonstrating that they are a specialist in it.

The tier is the second fact and the more consequential one. Core and Foundation cap the grades available and remove content that post-16 courses assume. If your child is near the boundary and needs the subject for sixth form, that is a Year 10 conversation with the head of department, held with marked evidence rather than with an opinion.

Specifications are revised, so the current version is the authority and the school holds the copy your child is actually sitting. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and states it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong one.

Choosing one subject rather than three

  • The week is the scarce resource, not the hourly rate
  • One tutored subject, one clear weekday, one weekend paper
  • Choose the subject from marked papers, not from a feeling
  • Splitting an hour between two subjects completes neither
  • Two subjects means two evenings, not one longer session

In a household where the child gets home at half past four, the week is the scarce resource rather than the money. Eight to ten IGCSE subjects already generate homework every evening, and adding three tutoring sessions to that produces a schedule that collapses by about week six, usually with the homework stopping first.

The arrangement that works is one tutored subject on one weekday evening, a second weekday deliberately left clear, and a Saturday morning paper in the examination year. That is three fewer hours than an anxious parent wants to buy and it produces more improvement, because each hour finishes a piece of work.

Choosing which subject is the real decision, and it should be made from marked papers rather than from a feeling. Pick the subject that most affects sixth-form options, usually mathematics, or the one with the clearest fixable problem. In many households the second subject then needs no tutoring at all, because exam technique transfers.

Parents defend splitting an hour between two subjects on grounds of fairness, which is understandable and is not a teaching principle. Twenty-five minutes on chemistry and twenty-five on physics completes nothing in either, marks no paper, and leaves nobody able to say whether it worked.

If two subjects genuinely need support, use two separate evenings rather than one split hour, and accept that this is a bigger commitment than it looks in a community where the journey home already takes an hour out of the afternoon.

06

What this costs, and what the money should be doing

Published Dubai rates put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IGCSE and IB work sits at AED 200-450 or more on Bestimate's survey, with TutorChase around AED 270 and BartyED's premium examiner-led tier at AED 650. Budget providers advertise from AED 33-65.

The planning figure matters more than the hourly one. Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 a month for a weekly budget arrangement, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support in one subject. Published packages run from about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions to AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Set against that, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. One line in the household budget is therefore stable while you plan this one.

Where the money leaks is predictable: paying an in-home travel premium for a generalist, buying a twenty-session package before testing the match, starting in February for a June series, and splitting one hour across three subjects. None of those is about choosing an expensive tutor over a cheap one.

Every figure above is the provider's or survey's own, read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price. We publish no rate card because the right number depends on subject, tier and weeks remaining. Start with the free trial session, buy six sessions rather than twenty, and judge the result on marked timed work.

Equivalency, mandatory subjects and the fuller week

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in Dubai
  • Mandatory-subject time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit
  • Equivalency counts five subjects, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • No tutoring is required for equivalency, and we do not perform it
  • We claim no approval from KHDA, the MoE, Cambridge or Pearson

Two UAE-specific facts shape an IGCSE timetable and neither appears on most tutoring pages. The first is the mandatory-subject requirement: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required its current guidance to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

KHDA calculates mandatory-subject time on a forty-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that no mandatory lesson runs shorter than twenty-five minutes. It also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes are strictly prohibited.

The practical consequence for a Year 10 or 11 household is a fuller week than the option list implies, which strengthens the case for one tutored subject rather than three. For the mandatory subjects themselves, using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited, so support there means helping with the school's own material.

The second fact is equivalency. On the British track the Ministry of Education requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or better, or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five.

That exclusion changes the arithmetic. A student taking ten subjects including Arabic and Islamic Education has eight that count, not ten. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency and no tutoring is required for it; verify the current requirements with the Ministry of Education before acting, since they are revised.

08

What we will not do

  • No coursework written, rewritten or supplied
  • No grade guarantees and no money-back improvement claims
  • No self-asserted ratings or unsourced statistics
  • No reproduced past papers or mark schemes
  • No regulator or board approval claimed, because none is held

Where an IGCSE subject carries coursework or a controlled component, a tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on work your child has written. A tutor does not write, part-write, rewrite or supply any of it. Submitting work that is not the student's own puts the qualification at risk and the risk falls on the student rather than on anyone selling the service.

We do not sell grade guarantees, promised score improvements or money-back schemes, because nobody can honestly deliver one. Be wary of any provider who offers one: the promise tells you more about the operator than about their teaching, and it is the fastest way to identify who to avoid in this market.

We publish no rating, review count or satisfaction percentage. Any statistic on this page would need its sample size, date and method attached, and we would rather publish nothing than publish a number you cannot check. Several providers in this market show two conflicting ratings on a single page.

We do not reproduce or distribute Cambridge, Pearson or IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those are cited and linked, and your child's school holds licensed access to what it needs. A folder of exam material offered by a tutor is a copyright problem rather than an advantage.

And we claim no approval we do not hold. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute with premises.

Where we tutor

Jumeirah Islands and the communities beside it

This stretch between Jumeirah Park and the Jumeirah Lakes Towers side of the city has a particular pattern: villa communities with no schools inside them, feeding a ring of schools five to twenty minutes out.

Jumeirah Islands

Gated villa clusters around man-made lakes, with a community pavilion and no school inside. Every pupil is driven or bussed out, which puts arrivals home at roughly 15:40 to 16:50 and makes 17:00 the dependable session start.

Jumeirah Islands Townhouses

The adjoining townhouse enclave, sharing the same school map and the same journey pattern. Study space rather than travel is often the binding constraint on sessions here.

Jumeirah Heights

Low-rise apartments and townhouses immediately alongside, using the same approach roads. Families here tend to settle on a fixed evening slot for the year rather than negotiating week to week.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

A short drive away with the Red Line station on its edge, useful for after-school activities and irrelevant to a tutoring timetable. A high-rise population with a very mixed school map.

Jumeirah Park

The neighbouring villa grid, which does have a school inside it. The two communities often share bus routes, so comparing notes on arrival times is more useful here than comparing schools.

The Meadows and Emirates Hills

Where several long-established schools sit, including both British-curriculum and IB provision. The nearest cluster to these gates and a common destination for IGCSE students living here.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

A larger group of international schools and the longest regular commute for a family here. The direction that most often pushes a household to a 17:30 rather than a 17:00 start.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find out when your child actually gets home

Not when school ends. Ask the transport office for your route's timings, because bus routes are built around schools rather than communities and two households inside these gates can differ by twenty minutes. That number decides the slot, and the slot decides whether the arrangement lasts.

  2. 02

Email the exams officer for codes and tiers

One message asking for the syllabus code and tier in each subject. It costs nothing, takes a day, and prevents a competent tutor working from the wrong board's past papers for a term, which is the most expensive mistake available in this market.

  3. 03

Pick one subject and one evening

Choose from marked papers: the subject that most affects sixth-form options or has the clearest fixable problem. Then one fixed weekday evening, with a second weekday deliberately left clear for your child's own work. Three sessions a week collapses by about week six.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial session

A full lesson with the matched tutor on your child's current material, no payment and no card details. Ask them to describe the paper structure for your child's syllabus code without looking it up. If they cannot, tell us and we change the tutor.

Use the holidays, and review at six sessions

Holiday blocks do what term-time hours cannot, because the journey home is not competing for the time. At six sessions we review on marked timed work rather than impressions, then extend, change focus or stop deliberately.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Slots built from arrival times

We set the weekly hour from when your child genuinely reaches home, which in a community with no school inside the gates is later than the school bell suggests. This page publishes the arrival pattern because a session at the wrong hour fails for reasons unrelated to teaching.

A plan by term, not an open arrangement

Each stage of Years 10 and 11 has a different useful target, from tier security in the autumn of Year 10 to exam conduct in the final weeks. Buying the right thing at the right time costs the same per hour and does considerably more.

Briefed on the exact syllabus code

Tutors work from Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 papers specifically, with the right mark schemes and calculator assumptions. Board-blind tutoring is how most IGCSE money is wasted in this city and one email prevents it.

Advice that reduces what you buy

We will tell you to tutor one subject rather than three, to use the summer before Year 11, and to leave a weekday clear. That shortens the invoice and it is the arrangement that is still running in May, which is the only test that matters.

Rates published with their source

Every AED figure here belongs to the provider or survey that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the six strongest competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars at families who pay in dirhams.

Nothing claimed that cannot be checked

No regulator or board approval, no self-asserted rating, no statistic without its method, no reproduced papers and no grade promises. On a page about an arrangement you will live with for two years, that absence is the relevant credential.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Islands: your questions answered

What time can a session start if we live inside Jumeirah Islands?+

Plan for 17:00, or 17:30 if your child travels from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh. Because no school sits inside these gates, every pupil is driven or bussed out and the return leg usually serves two or three other communities first, putting arrivals home between roughly 15:40 and 16:50. A 16:30 start sounds reasonable and in practice begins before a teenager has eaten or changed, which is why those arrangements stop in week five.

Will a tutor drive into the community for lessons?+

Not through us. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only, and there is no office or centre here either. IGCSE tuition for Jumeirah Islands families is live online, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time, with past papers shared on screen. Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's survey and AED 200-500 for independent home tutors if presence in the room is essential for your child.

Which term of Year 10 or 11 should we actually start in?+

The autumn of Year 10 if you have the choice. That is when foundations can be built and when the tier decision is still open, and a single weekly hour spread across two years costs less in total than an intensive programme in the spring of Year 11. If you are already in Year 11, the next best points are immediately and the week after the mock, because the marked mock paper turns a vague worry into a specific six-week plan.

Is the summer between Year 10 and Year 11 worth using?+

It is the most under-used opportunity in the whole cycle. With no homework and no journey competing for the time, four to eight sessions can rebuild a topic properly in a way term-time weekly work struggles to manage: electricity in physics, a reliable mole layout in chemistry, algebraic fractions in maths. It also secures a weekly slot before Year 11 demand fills the early evenings across Dubai, which matters in the scarcer subjects.

How do we find out which exam board each subject uses?+

Email the exams officer and ask for the syllabus code and tier per subject. You should get back something like 0620 Extended or 4PH1 Higher. Ask per subject rather than per school, because departments inside one school sometimes use different boards. Cambridge and Pearson examine the same content differently, including calculator rules and how practical skills are assessed, so a tutor working from the wrong past papers will teach competently and change nothing.

Can we tutor three subjects at once if the sessions are short?+

You can buy it and we will advise against it. In a household where the child reaches home at half past four, the week is scarcer than the money: eight to ten subjects already generate homework every evening. Three tutoring sessions on top of that collapses by about week six, usually with the homework stopping first. One subject on one evening, a second weekday left clear, and a Saturday paper in the exam year is the arrangement that survives.

Does the metro at Jumeirah Lakes Towers make any difference to lessons?+

No, and it is worth saying because it looks as though it should. The Red Line station on the edge of Jumeirah Lakes Towers is a short drive from these gates and is genuinely useful for after-school activities and for an older teenager travelling independently. It changes nothing about tutoring: an online session happens at home, and an in-home tutor arrives by car in the same evening traffic as everybody else.

Which single subject should we spend the hour on?+

Usually mathematics, because it compounds across two years and because it gates the most sixth-form options, including A Level sciences and the Diploma's Analysis and Approaches. The exception is where a marked paper shows a sharper, more fixable problem elsewhere: electricity in physics, or a mole layout in chemistry. Decide from marked papers rather than from a feeling, and expect that the second subject may need nothing once exam technique transfers.

What should we do with the mock paper when it comes back?+

Read the paper, not the grade. The grade tells you roughly where your child stands and nothing about what to do; the marked paper shows which question types lost marks and whether the cause was content, method or misreading the question. Those three need different responses over different numbers of weeks. Marking it with a tutor who then builds a six-week plan from the actual errors is the single most productive session in Year 11.

Can sessions move during Ramadan and the school holidays?+

Yes, and most families change them. During Ramadan school hours shorten and households run later, so a post-Iftar session or a late-morning weekend slot usually works better than anything at five. In the holidays many families pause and others switch to an intensive block, which is the better use of the time if an exam year is coming. Because nobody travels, a change is a slot swap rather than a renegotiation, and the weekly slot is held.

Our child is on Core tier but wants a science at A Level. Can that be fixed?+

It is worth contesting in Year 10, with marked evidence. The tier removes content as well as capping the grade, and post-16 courses assume the Extended or Higher material. A term of weekly work aimed specifically at the content that separates the tiers, followed by strong marks on the school's own assessments, is what changes a head of department's view. If the cap stands, ask the receiving sixth form directly what bridging work they expect rather than assuming the subject is closed.

How many months of tutoring do most families here end up buying?+

The arrangements that work tend to be long and light rather than short and heavy: one hour a week through two academic years, with a holiday block and a rise in frequency in the final six weeks. On Bestimate's monthly bands that sits at roughly AED 600-1,200 a month mid-market for one subject. The arrangements that fail are usually three sessions a week bought in February, which cost more per month and finish before the papers.

Which schools do IGCSE students from this community attend?+

There is no school inside the gates, so families travel. The schools named most often by households here include Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, GEMS Wellington International School, Regent International School, Sunmarke School in Jumeirah Village Triangle, Dubai Heights Academy and Safa Community School. We have no affiliation with any of them and name them as context for the local market; confirm current curricula and programmes on KHDA's own school listing before enrolling.

Do we need to worry about the Arabic and Islamic Education lessons too?+

Know how they affect the week, and know what support can legitimately look like. They are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, KHDA calculates their time on a forty-minute lesson unit and requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of them, and using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited. They are also excluded from the five subjects equivalency counts, which affects where support money is best spent.

What is the first thing you would ask us before matching a tutor?+

Three things, in this order: which school and therefore what time your child genuinely gets home, the syllabus code and tier for the subject, and what the last marked paper actually said. The first decides the slot, the second decides which past papers the tutor uses, and the third decides what the first six weeks target. A provider who asks only for the year group and the subject is not going to be specific enough to help.

Fix the hour, then fix the subject

If you are looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Islands, start with the two facts nobody else will give you. Find out when your child actually reaches home, because with no school inside these gates that is later than the school day suggests and it decides which slot survives. Then email the exams officer for the syllabus code and tier so the tutor works from the right past papers. After that, one subject on one fixed evening beats three split sessions every time. Our lessons run live online, one to one, with a free trial first.
