IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Islands

The number before the name

The published Dubai tutoring market runs from about AED 33 an hour to about AED 650. That is a twentyfold spread for something sold under one word, and it tells you immediately that 'tutor' describes several different products. Three of the six strongest competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of those that do quote US dollars at families who transact in dirhams.

So the first thing this page does is put the figures in one place, attributed to whoever published them, with the month we read them. The second is to convert them into the number that actually matters, which is what two years of Diploma support costs rather than what one hour costs. Nobody buys an hour, and an arrangement priced optimistically stops in week six.

The third thing, and the most useful, is to say where the money should go. In the Diploma that is not obvious, because a substantial share of each subject grade sits in criterion-marked coursework with deadlines set by your child's school, and that coursework is the most coachable part of the course. Families routinely spend on content revision in the final term and nothing on the component that was winnable a year earlier.

On the geography in the search phrase: proximity costs more and buys less. Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's survey, with independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online. The premium is a commute, and in a gated community reached from Sheikh Zayed Road at half past five that commute is long.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are an India-only service and there is no office or centre here. What a Jumeirah Islands family gets is live online one-to-one tuition on Gulf Standard Time, matched by subject and level. We target the near-me phrase because that is what parents search, and then describe what the service actually is.

There is also a scarcity question inside the price, and it is subject-specific rather than general. The International Baccalaureate accounts for roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum, and within that the Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches are the combinations fewest tutors can teach well. Those are the subjects where you will meet the specialist band and a quoted wait in the spring term.

One piece of household context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package. The school-fee line in your budget is therefore stable while you plan this one, which is a better starting position than families here have had for several years.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai rates span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour
  • Plan from a two-year figure, not an hourly one
  • Coursework is the most coachable part of a Diploma grade
  • Proximity adds roughly AED 30-150 an hour and buys no depth
  • No figure on this page is an IB Gram price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What support costs changes with the programme, because the scarcity of tutors and the structure of the assessment both change. These are the four stages families here ask about.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The cheapest stage to support and the one with the least obvious need, because there is no external examination and reporting describes dispositions rather than attainment. A single diagnostic session is usually a better purchase than a weekly arrangement, establishing where number fluency and written inference actually sit.

With no school inside Jumeirah Islands, primary pupils here attend several different schools, so there is no shared curriculum sequence a tutor can assume. That makes a diagnostic worth more and a long programme worth less.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Usually the best value in the whole IB sequence, because the problem is almost always a specific criterion rather than general knowledge. Two or three sessions timed to a real task, with the task sheet and descriptors open, often changes more than a term of content teaching would.

Buy short and specific here. A weekly open-ended arrangement in the Middle Years Programme is the commonest way IB families in Dubai spend money without being able to say what changed.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Where almost all IB tutoring spending happens, and where most of it happens too late. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with written papers in the May session. The scarce and therefore expensive combinations are the Higher Level sciences and mathematics.

Starting in the first Diploma year costs less in total than an intensive programme in the second, and it secures the early-evening slots that fill across Dubai in the spring term. Timing is the main cost control available to a family here.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. UAE provision sits in a handful of schools, so tutors who have taught the programme itself are rare and the practical spend goes on the Diploma courses inside it.

Because so few UAE schools offer it, there is no local market to price against. Expect to pay the specialist band for the Diploma subjects and to find the reflective project coached rather than taught.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What each subject costs to staff and why, because scarcity rather than difficulty sets the price. These are the subjects Jumeirah Islands families ask about most.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested subject and, at Higher Level, one of the scarcest. Expect the specialist band. The best-value purchase is early: non-calculator Paper 1 technique and the exploration, which carries roughly a fifth of the grade and is almost entirely coachable, rather than content revision in the final term.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Easier to staff than Analysis and Approaches, so usually available at the qualified band and within the same week. The spend is best directed at interpretation and at the exploration, where a genuinely owned data set outscores a borrowed one with a regression line drawn through it.

Physics

HL and SL

Scarce at Higher Level and priced accordingly. The highest-return spend is data analysis and uncertainties, because it earns marks in the written papers and again in the investigation, and a planning session before the laboratory, because design carries as much weight as analysis.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Scarce at Higher Level, and unusually block-friendly. An organic mechanisms block of six to eight sessions has a defined scope and a visible result, which makes chemistry one of the few subjects where a short targeted engagement is genuinely better value than a long arrangement.

Biology

HL and SL

Reasonably staffed, so usually the qualified band and same-week availability. Slower to shift than the other sciences because the problem is command-term precision rather than content, so budget weeks rather than money and work against real mark schemes.

Economics

HL and SL

Well staffed and good value, because the internal assessment is three commentaries of 800 words and the article choice is half the mark. A small number of sessions on choosing articles that can carry a diagram changes the outcome more than content teaching does.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Well staffed. The spend is best placed on unseen analysis under time and on the Individual Oral, where students need a sustained argument linking a global issue to two texts rather than a summary. Weekend slots suit this work and are easier to get.

Business Management

HL and SL

Reasonably staffed. The costly surprises are investment appraisal and cash-flow forecasting, which catch out strong writers, and a research project whose question is too broad for the word limit. Both are short, defined pieces of work rather than long programmes.

Computer Science

HL and SL

A thin tutor pool at Higher Level, so expect the specialist band and a quoted wait in the spring term. The internal assessment fails on scope, which means the cheapest useful session is the one that narrows the client brief before any code is written.

TOK, the Extended Essay and IA coaching

Core components

The most under-bought and best-value spend in the Diploma. Research question design, argument structure and criterion feedback on the student's own drafts. A tutor may never write any part of it, which is also why no amount of money buys a shortcut here.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IB support, priced differently and suited to different problems. All are live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

A single diagnostic session

The cheapest useful purchase in IB tutoring. One session with a subject specialist, working from your child's own marked work, producing a written read of where they actually sit and what six weeks would target. Some families take it and decide they need nothing further, which is a legitimate outcome.

  • One session, one subject, a written diagnosis
  • No commitment of any kind afterwards
  • Tests the tutor as well as the student
  • Useful before Higher Level choices are locked

A defined coursework block

Six to ten sessions timed to an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge deadline. Defined scope, defined end, and aimed at the component that carries a large share of the grade and is the most coachable. The best value per dirham available in the Diploma, and the least often bought.

  • A fixed number of sessions, agreed up front
  • Research question narrowed before any writing
  • Criterion feedback on the student's own drafts
  • Finishes rather than rolling on

Weekly across two years

One hour a week per subject from the first Diploma year. More expensive in total hours and cheaper in total money than an intensive programme in the second year, because it prevents the compounding that makes late help so costly. It also secures a slot before the spring squeeze.

  • Same tutor, same slot, tracked against school deadlines
  • Frequency rises for mocks and the final term
  • Reviewed every six sessions on marked work
  • No long package bought in advance

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Islands

01

What the near-me search is really asking about

  • The cheapest band in this market is online, not local
  • In-home is the most expensive band for equivalent teaching
  • Insisting on proximity narrows the pool to the less specialised
  • No UAE home visits and no UAE centre from IB Gram
  • In-person still wins for specific, identifiable cases

It is usually a price question in geographic clothing. The parent wants someone competent, soon, without another journey, at a figure they can sanity-check against a neighbour's. Proximity serves as a proxy for convenience and for a price that feels local, and in this market neither proxy holds.

On convenience, IB Gram's answer is live online one-to-one teaching scheduled around when your child reaches home. Since Jumeirah Islands has no school and no tuition centre inside the gates, the day already contains two journeys, and online removes the third rather than adding one. There are no UAE home visits and no UAE centre.

On price, the published figures are the opposite of the intuition. The cheapest band in this market is online supervision at AED 33-65 an hour on Tutopiya's and EdFlik's figures. The most expensive band for equivalent teaching is in-home, at AED 180-500 including travel. Hiring locally does not reduce the price; it increases it and narrows the pool.

The reason it narrows the pool is simple scarcity. A tutor willing to drive into a gated community at half past five, for that rate, in the spring term, is drawn from a smaller and less specialised group, because a sought-after Higher Level specialist has no reason to spend ninety minutes in traffic.

Where in-person provision is genuinely worth the premium is with a child who will not stay on task without an adult present, a household with nowhere quiet in the early evening, or hands-on equipment work. If that is your situation, pay it, hire locally, and treat the published in-home band above as the market you are buying in.

02

Two years of Diploma support, costed

This is the arithmetic that decides whether an arrangement lasts, and it should be done before the first session rather than discovered in February. Bestimate's Dubai survey estimates AED 240-600 a month for a weekly one-hour arrangement at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support in a single subject.

Two Higher Level subjects at one session each therefore sits in four figures monthly through the Diploma, and that is before anything is added for coursework blocks or the final-term rise in frequency. A family planning from an hourly rate rather than a monthly one typically commits to roughly twice what they intended and stops in the second term.

The alternative shape costs less and works better. One weekly hour in the single subject that most needs it from the start of the first Diploma year, plus one defined coursework block per major component, plus a rise to two or three sessions a week in the last six weeks. That spreads the spend, keeps it cancellable and avoids the compounding that makes late intervention expensive.

Two costs belong in the same budget and are not tutoring. Examination entry fees, which the school charges and which rise for late or private-candidate entries. And, for a student who may need it, the cost of a retake session, which is a second entry plus a university application cycle carried out on a provisional result.

The table works the two-year shape out against the published bands. The figures are indicative, drawn from the market rather than from any price of ours, and the purpose is to show the shape of the commitment before you start.

03

Where the spend should go inside a Diploma subject

This is the part almost nobody sets out, and it changes outcomes more than the hourly rate does. A Diploma subject grade is not one thing. Written papers carry most of it, and internal assessment carries a substantial share, commonly around a fifth, marked against published criteria with a deadline set by your child's school rather than by the IB.

That coursework share is the most coachable part of the course. Criterion descriptors are published, the failure modes are predictable, and a tutor can legitimately teach the criteria, narrow the research question, teach the writing conventions and give feedback on the student's own drafts. Six to ten sessions, timed to the school's deadline, is a defined piece of work with a visible result.

Content revision in the final term is the opposite: open-ended, expensive per unit of improvement, and competing for the scarcest slots in the market. Families spend here because it feels like the exam is the thing, and the exam is indeed the thing, but by April the available gains are in technique and conduct rather than in content.

The third category is data and technique skills that pay twice. Data analysis and uncertainties in the sciences appear in the written papers and in the investigation. Command-term discipline in biology and the humanities appears in every answer on every paper. Both are cheap to teach and are routinely skipped because they are not topics.

The table ranks the components by how much of the grade they carry against how coachable they are. Use it to decide what to buy and when, rather than buying hours and hoping they land somewhere useful.

04

Why some subjects cost more than others

Price in this market tracks scarcity rather than difficulty, and the scarcity is specific. Teaching Higher Level physics or chemistry well requires depth in fields and induction, or in organic mechanisms and quantitative equilibrium, plus familiarity with how the investigation is marked. Those combinations are thin everywhere and thinner in any single neighbourhood.

Demand is also concentrated in the same weeks and hours across the whole city. Every Diploma family wants a weekday slot between 17:00 and 19:00 in the spring term. A specialist with four Higher Level students already has a full early evening, and insisting that they also drive to a gated community removes most of the remaining candidates.

The practical consequence is that timing is leverage you can use for free. A weekly Higher Level chemistry slot booked in September costs the same per hour as one booked in March and gets a materially better tutor, because in September the specialist's calendar is still open. That is not a scarcity tactic; it is how any calendar of appointments fills.

We publish the position rather than imply unlimited supply. Where a combination is not available you are told, with a date, and offered an off-peak slot with the specialist, an interim tutor with a stated handover, or a wait. Where a tutor covering a UAE family is based outside the UAE and teaches on Gulf Standard Time, we say so before you book.

The table sets out which combinations attract the specialist band and which do not. It is the information that lets you budget by subject rather than applying one rate to six of them.

The cheapest things that actually work, ranked

If the budget is the constraint, these are the interventions with the best return, cheapest first. Several of them cost nothing at all, and a provider who tells you about them is reducing their own invoice, which is a reasonable test of whether you are being advised or sold to.

Free: asking the school which criterion scores or component marks produced a disappointing grade. Free: asking for the school's internal assessment and Extended Essay calendar in September so the deadlines stop being surprises. Free: reading a marked paper with your child and asking, question by question, what they were thinking.

One session: a diagnostic with a subject specialist that produces a written read of where the student actually sits. One to three sessions: command-term work, which transfers across every paper in every subject. One to three sessions: narrowing an Extended Essay or internal assessment research question before any writing starts, which is where most of that component's marks are decided.

Six to ten sessions: a coursework block timed to the school's deadline, or a defined topic block attacking a named weakness from a marked paper. These have scope and an end point, which is what makes them measurable and what stops them becoming an open-ended monthly charge.

The most expensive pattern, and the one most families buy, is two or three sessions a week per subject from February. It costs the most per unit of improvement and competes for the scarcest slots in the city. The table ranks all of this so you can spend the first fifty dirhams well.

Questions to ask before you pay anyone

  • Per hour or per lesson, and how many minutes is a lesson?
  • Is the dirham figure quoted the figure I will be charged?
  • Cancellation terms, both ways, in writing
  • Who is the tutor, where based, and do they hold a MoHRE permit?
  • What will you not do?

Hidden extras are where a quoted rate stops resembling the invoice. Ask these in writing, of us or of anyone else, and treat evasion as an answer. None of them is an awkward question and all of them have a short factual reply.

Start with the unit. Is the price per hour or per lesson, and how many minutes is a lesson? A fifty-minute lesson charged as an hour is a difference nobody mentions. Then ask whether the dirham figure quoted is the figure you will be charged. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as a general fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation, so ask the provider directly.

Then the mechanics. What happens to a session you cancel with a day's notice, and to one the tutor cancels? Is there a minimum commitment? What happens to unused sessions in a package? Does the rate change closer to the examinations, as it does with several providers? Is the trial genuinely free, with no card details taken?

Then the people. Who is the tutor, where are they based, do they hold a Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit, and have they taught this subject at this level to a May session? And if an examiner claim is being made, what evidences it, given that examiner status must never be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content.

Finally the question that sorts providers fastest: what will you not do? The right answer includes not writing any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, and not promising a grade. Anything else tells you what you need to know before any money changes hands.

07

The cost of a badly chosen hour

A session at the wrong time of day is not cheaper for being wasted, and in this community that risk is higher than average. No school sits inside Jumeirah Islands, so every child travels out and the return leg usually serves two or three other communities first, putting arrivals home between roughly 15:40 and 16:50.

A 16:30 session therefore starts before a teenager has eaten or changed, and the first twenty minutes go on settling. At the mid-market band that is a recurring weekly loss for no benefit, and it is the mechanism by which arrangements quietly end in week five with nobody quite able to say why.

17:00 is the dependable start here, 17:30 for children travelling from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh. Second-year Diploma students frequently work better at 19:30 for essay and Theory of Knowledge work, when they can sustain an argument rather than race. For mathematics and quantitative work, earlier is better because accuracy is the first thing tiredness takes.

Weekend slots are underused and they are where the long work belongs. A Saturday morning session is the only ninety-minute block in a Jumeirah Islands week, which makes it the right place for a full timed paper or a proper drafting session, with Sunday used to review what came out of it.

Bus routes are built around schools rather than communities, so ask your transport office for your own route timings rather than copying a neighbour's slot. Twenty minutes is the difference between an hour that works and an hour you have paid for twice.

What no amount of money buys

  • No coursework written, rewritten or supplied at any price
  • No grade guarantees and no money-back improvement claims
  • No self-asserted ratings or unsourced statistics
  • No reproduced past papers or mark schemes
  • No regulator or board approval claimed, because none is held

A cost page should be honest about the ceiling. The first thing money cannot buy is coursework. A tutor may teach criteria, narrow a research question, teach referencing and give feedback on the student's own drafts, and may not write, part-write, rewrite or supply any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project.

Operators in this market do sell completed internal assessments at four-figure prices. That is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller, which is precisely why no price makes it a sensible purchase.

The second is a grade. No honest provider can promise a score, a number of marks or a percentage improvement, and anyone offering a money-back grade guarantee is telling you something about their business rather than their teaching. We publish no rating, review count or satisfaction percentage either, because a statistic without its sample size, date and method is unverifiable.

The third is official material. We do not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. They are cited and linked, and your child's school holds licensed access to what it needs.

The fourth is a regulator's endorsement. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit. Any provider implying that a regulator has vetted its tutors is worth questioning closely.

Where we tutor

What 'near me' covers from these gates

If you are filtering by distance, this is the realistic radius on a weekday evening. The list is short, which is part of why proximity is an expensive filter to insist on.

Jumeirah Islands

Gated villa clusters around lakes with no school and no tuition centre inside. Everything already involves a car, which is why an in-home visit adds a third journey to the day rather than removing one.

Jumeirah Islands Townhouses

The adjoining townhouse enclave. In-home tutors quote the same or slightly higher than for the main community, because the detour adds time without adding other clients on the same street.

Jumeirah Heights

Apartments and townhouses alongside, sharing the approach roads. A slightly denser population, which marginally improves the economics of a visiting tutor and does not change them much.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

A short drive away with a Red Line station on its edge. Dense enough that group provision and tuition centres exist, which is the nearest point where a cheaper per-student option is genuinely available.

Jumeirah Park

The neighbouring villa grid, with a school inside it. Enough IB and IGCSE students nearby that a shared sibling session is occasionally viable, though matched levels matter more than matched addresses.

The Meadows and Emirates Hills

Long-established IB provision and a well-off catchment, which is where the premium end of the in-home market concentrates. Published premium rates reach AED 650 an hour in this city.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

The largest school cluster within reach and the longest commute. An in-home tutor coming from here in the 17:30 peak is pricing forty to ninety minutes of driving into your hour.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Do the free things first

Ask the school which component or criterion scores produced the grade, get the internal assessment and mock calendar, and read a marked paper with your child. Those three cost nothing and frequently change what you decide to buy, sometimes to nothing.

  2. 02

Decide a monthly figure you can hold for three terms

Work from Bestimate's monthly bands rather than an hourly rate: roughly AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support in one subject. An arrangement that stops in week six because it was priced optimistically is the worst value available.

  3. 03

Buy the component, not the hours

Decide what the money is for: a diagnostic, a coursework block timed to the school's deadline, a named topic from a marked paper, or weekly continuity. Each has a different cost and a different end point, and an open-ended weekly charge is the hardest to evaluate.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial session

A full lesson with the matched tutor on your child's current material, no payment and no card details. Ask what they will not do, and ask for the component weightings at your child's level. Wrong answers mean we change the tutor rather than asking you to persist.

  5. 05

Review on marked work at six sessions

Six sessions is enough to see whether marks on timed work are moving and short enough that being wrong costs little. Then extend, change focus or stop. Discounted long packages transfer the risk to you before the match has been tested.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures with their source and date

Every AED number here belongs to the provider or survey that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the six strongest competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars at families who transact in dirhams.

No travel premium in the price

Lessons are live online, so you are not funding a drive into a gated community at half past five. Published in-home rates run AED 180-500 an hour against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the gap is commute rather than competence.

Advice that cuts your invoice

We tell you which questions to ask the school for free, that a coursework block beats content revision in April, and that starting in the first Diploma year costs less than the second. All of that reduces what you spend with us.

Scarcity priced honestly by subject

Higher Level physics, chemistry, Analysis and Approaches and Computer Science attract the specialist band because the supply is thin. We say which combinations those are and quote a date when a slot is not free, rather than substituting quietly.

Small commitments, reviewed on evidence

A free trial, then six sessions, then a review against marked timed work. We would rather lose a long package than sell one before the match is tested, because unused sessions are the most common complaint in this market.

A published ceiling on what we sell

No coursework written, no grades guaranteed, no papers supplied, no approvals claimed and no unsourced statistics. On a page about money, the list of things not for sale at any price is the most useful part of it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Islands: your questions answered

What should we budget for two years of Diploma tutoring?+

Work from monthly figures. Bestimate's Dubai survey estimates AED 240-600 a month for a weekly budget arrangement, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support in one subject. One subject weekly across the Diploma therefore sits in the mid band for roughly eighteen teaching months; two Higher Level subjects roughly doubles it. Add school examination entry fees, which are not tutoring costs but belong in the same budget. None of these is our price.

Is a local tutor cheaper than an online one in Dubai?+

The published figures say the opposite. The cheapest band in this market is online supervision at AED 33-52 on Tutopiya's figures and AED 45-65 on EdFlik's. In-home one-to-one is the most expensive band for equivalent teaching, at AED 180-350 on Bestimate's survey and AED 200-500 for independent home tutors. You are paying for travel, and in a gated community reached off Sheikh Zayed Road in the evening peak that travel is forty to ninety minutes round trip.

Which part of a Diploma subject is worth paying a tutor for?+

The coursework, and the technique that pays twice. Internal assessment commonly carries around a fifth of a subject grade, is marked against published criteria, and has a deadline set by your child's school a long way before the papers. It is the most coachable component in the course. Data analysis and command-term discipline are the other two, because they earn marks across every paper and in the coursework as well. Content revision in April is the most expensive and least efficient purchase.

Why do physics and chemistry cost more than economics?+

Scarcity, not difficulty. Teaching Higher Level physics or chemistry well needs depth in fields and induction, or organic mechanisms and quantitative equilibrium, plus knowledge of how the investigation is marked. Those combinations are thin in any one city. Demand is also concentrated in the same weeks and the same early-evening hours, so the specialists fill up. Economics and English are better staffed and usually available at the qualified band within the same week.

What can we do that costs nothing at all?+

Three things, and they are the best-value items on this page. Ask the school which component or criterion scores produced a disappointing grade, which converts an unreadable report into a plan. Ask in September for the internal assessment, Extended Essay and mock calendar, so the deadlines stop arriving as surprises. And read a marked paper with your child question by question, asking what they were thinking, which distinguishes a content gap from a method problem from a misread question.

Do tutors come to houses in Jumeirah Islands?+

Not through us. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only, and there is no office or centre here either. Lessons for families inside these gates are live online, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time. Given there is no school and no tuition centre in the community, online removes a journey rather than adding one. Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180-500 an hour including travel if presence in the room is essential.

Should we buy a discounted package up front?+

Not before the match has been tested. Published monthly packages in Dubai run from around AED 799 for eight online sessions to AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, and the risk in buying early is unused sessions, which is the most common complaint in this market. Take a free trial, buy six sessions, review on marked timed work, then consider a package if the price genuinely improves. Ask in writing what happens to sessions you do not use.

How much does a wasted session actually cost us?+

More than people assume, because it recurs. A 16:30 session for a child who reaches home at 16:20 spends its first twenty minutes on settling, which at the mid-market band is a weekly loss for no benefit and the usual reason an arrangement ends in week five. In this community, where no school sits inside the gates and arrivals run from 15:40 to 16:50, 17:00 is the dependable start and 17:30 is safer for a long commute.

Does the rate go up closer to the May session?+

With several providers it does, and it is worth asking before you commit. Demand concentrates in the spring term, specialist slots between 17:00 and 19:00 fill across the city, and the market prices accordingly. The practical consequence is that booking in September both secures the slot and avoids the squeeze, at the same hourly figure. Ask any provider directly whether the rate quoted in October is the rate you will pay in March, and get it in writing.

Is a premium examiner-led tutor ever worth the money?+

Occasionally, with caution. The top of this market reaches AED 650 an hour on BartyED's published figures, and for a scarce Higher Level subject in the final weeks genuine expertise can justify it. But current examiner status is hard to verify, must never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, and is not a substitute for teaching skill. Ask what evidences the claim. For most subjects the AED 200-450 specialist band does the work.

Can two children share a session to halve the cost?+

Only if they are genuinely matched on subject and level. Two siblings taking the same subject at the same level can share an hour productively, and some providers price that below two separate hours. Two children in different years, different subjects or different levels cannot, and the attempt produces two half-sessions. Matched levels matter far more than matched addresses, which is also why sharing with a neighbour's child rarely works as well as parents hope.

What is the single most expensive mistake in IB tutoring here?+

Starting in the spring of the second Diploma year. By then the coursework that carried a fifth of each subject grade has been submitted, the content gains are largely gone, two or three sessions a week are needed instead of one, and the scarcest specialists have full calendars. The same money spent as one weekly hour from the first Diploma year buys more improvement, costs less per month, and secures a better tutor at the same rate.

How do we compare two quotes that look nothing alike?+

Reduce both to four numbers and two questions. The numbers: cost per sixty minutes of actual teaching, cost per month at the frequency you need, what happens to a cancelled session, and what happens if you change tutor. The questions: who employs the tutor and where are they based, and does the tutor hold a Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition permit. Most quotes that look cheaper turn out to be shorter lessons, group sessions, or supervision sold as teaching.

Is the Middle Years Programme cheaper to support than the Diploma?+

Usually, and for a reason worth knowing. In the Middle Years Programme the problem is almost always a specific criterion rather than general knowledge, so two or three sessions timed to a real task, with the task sheet and descriptors open, often changes more than a term of content teaching. That makes it a short, cheap and measurable purchase. A weekly open-ended arrangement at that stage is the easiest money in IB tutoring to spend without being able to say what it did.

What would make you tell us not to buy anything?+

Several things, and we say them. If a marked paper shows the issue is that your child has not attempted their own teacher's homework for three weeks, a tutor makes it worse rather than better and the conversation belongs with the school. If there are too few weeks left for a subject to move meaningfully, we say so. And if a single diagnostic session shows the student is secure, we tell you that rather than proposing a programme.

Price the component, not the hour

If you are weighing up an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Islands, do the free things first: ask the school which component scores produced the grade, get the coursework calendar, and read a marked paper with your child. Then convert every quote into a monthly figure you could hold for three terms, and decide what the money is actually for, because a coursework block timed to the school's deadline does more than content revision in April. Our lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial session first.
