IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Manara

Parents searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Manara are usually asking one real question: is there anybody nearby who actually knows the syllabus my child is sitting? This page answers it honestly. There are good tutors in this part of Dubai. Far fewer of them can tell you the difference between Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, and that difference is where the marks are. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Manara

"Does anyone near me actually know this syllabus?"

It is the right question and almost nobody answers it. A parent in Al Manara searching for an IGCSE home tutor does not want a stranger's postcode; they want somebody who has taught the exact qualification their child is entered for. And IGCSE is not one qualification. It is a family of them, offered by Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA, each with its own syllabus codes, its own paper structures, its own tiering rules and its own way of handling practical science. A tutor who knows one well and the others not at all is common and perfectly respectable. A tutor who does not know which one your child is sitting is a problem.

Al Manara sits inland in the Jumeirah corridor, along Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, between the coastal villa districts and the dense Al Barsha school cluster. It is largely residential villas, well served by road, and it feeds children into campuses in both directions - the coastal British-curriculum and IB schools towards Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, and the inland cluster around Al Barsha and Al Quoz. Those schools use different boards. Two Al Manara children on the same street can be sitting Mathematics under Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 respectively, with different papers, different calculator rules and different grading behaviour.

So the honest answer to the question in the heading is: yes, there are capable tutors within a short drive of Al Manara, and no, proximity does not tell you whether any of them knows your child's board. What tells you is four or five questions, and this page gives them to you. It also gives you the syllabus codes side by side, because the fastest way to test a tutor is to ask them what changes between the two and listen to whether the answer is specific.

On the phrase in the URL: home tutoring is what parents search for, and this page treats it seriously rather than pretending the question away. Home tuition in Al Manara is a real market with real prices - in-home one-to-one visits across Dubai are quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors - and for some families, particularly with younger children or where supervision is the point, it is the right purchase. IB Gram does not sell it. Home visits are a service we run only in India; UAE delivery is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and the comparison table later on sets out what that trade costs and buys.

The reason for that choice is the one this page opened with. A tutor who drives cannot specialise, because nobody fills a week with Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry students living within twenty minutes of their own villa. Travel time turns specialists into generalists. Removing the drive is what makes it possible to match an Al Manara family with somebody who knows their board, their code and the paper their child is entered for.

Read the syllabus code table first. It is the part of this page that will change how you interview a tutor, whoever you end up hiring.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Manara IGCSE enquiry can mean several different things depending on the board and the stage. These are the routes families in this part of Dubai are actually on, and what each one assesses.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International IGCSE

The most widely taught IGCSE in the UAE. Subjects carry four-digit codes - 0580 Mathematics, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English - and many are tiered into Core and Extended, with Core capped at grade C or 5 depending on the grading scale the school uses. Cambridge runs exams in a June series and a November series, with each centre allocated to one of six administrative zones.

Cambridge warns that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For an Al Manara family this is a one-line question to the school's exams officer, and it is worth asking in writing rather than assuming.

PearsonAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes begin with a digit and a subject prefix - 4MA1 Mathematics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4PH1 Physics, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher; Mathematics B is a single harder tier. Pearson exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

The practical difference for a tutor is the paper structure and the tiering decision. A student entered for Higher tier 4MA1 who would have been better on Foundation loses marks that are not recoverable by content work, and that entry decision belongs to the school - which makes it a conversation to have early rather than in March.

AS/A2Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level

Where most IGCSE students in British-curriculum Dubai schools go next, as an alternative to the IB Diploma. Cambridge runs International A Levels in the same June and November series as IGCSE. The transition matters because A Level assumes algebraic fluency and practical skills that IGCSE only begins; a student who scraped an IGCSE grade through recall tends to find the first A Level term brutal.

For MoE British-track equivalency, the published requirement is one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3.

IBDPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The other common post-IGCSE route in Dubai, since many British-curriculum schools in the emirate run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. Six subjects across Higher and Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, with an internally assessed component in each subject.

The IGCSE to Diploma jump is the one Al Manara families underestimate most, because the content overlap is reassuring and the assessment design is not. Internal assessment, command terms and extended response all arrive at once, and the students who cope are the ones whose IGCSE work was understood rather than memorised.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE subjects come up by board and code in this part of Dubai, not by name alone. For each one, what the papers assess and where the marks actually go.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Two written papers per tier, with Extended reaching into functions, vectors, transformations and harder algebra. Marks go on unshown working, premature rounding and misread command words. Core is capped, so the tiering decision matters more than any amount of revision in the final term.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of equal weight, calculator permitted throughout, which changes the balance of skills against some Cambridge routes. Higher tier assumes confident algebraic manipulation; the common loss is a correct method abandoned because the student cannot rearrange under time pressure.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended / single tier

Moles and stoichiometry decide grades in both routes. Marks are lost on state symbols, significant figures and explanations that describe rather than explain. Organic chemistry at Extended rewards mechanism understanding over memorised equations, and electrolysis questions punish vague electrode reasoning.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended / single tier

Electricity and waves are where most marks disappear. The failure is usually algebraic rather than conceptual: a correct formula, a correct substitution, then an arithmetic slip or a unit left unconverted. Graph questions reward careful gradient work that is quick to teach and rarely taught.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended / single tier

A volume subject that rewards exact terminology and penalises near-misses. "The cell takes it in" earns nothing where the mark scheme wants active transport against a concentration gradient. Data and graph interpretation questions on the longer papers need practice on material nobody has pre-digested.

Combined and Coordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0653 / 0654 and equivalents

Two or three sciences compressed into fewer qualifications, taken by many Dubai students who do not intend to carry all three forward. The content is shallower but the exam technique demands are identical, and students often arrive with weaker practical reasoning because fewer practicals were run.

English Language (Cambridge 0500 / 0990, Pearson 4EA1)

First Language

Reading response and directed writing carry the paper. Students lose marks by summarising a passage rather than selecting and analysing from it, and by ignoring the specified audience and form in the writing task. Timing discipline is worth more here than vocabulary breadth.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 / 0511

Assessed on listening, reading and writing with a specified text type for each writing task. A capable speaker can plateau because register and text-type conventions were never taught explicitly - an email written as an essay loses marks before the content is read.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Diagram accuracy and case-study application carry the grade. A correctly labelled and correctly shifted diagram with the new equilibrium marked earns marks that prose cannot recover, and tool-based answers that never reference the named business are capped however fluent they read.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode, trace tables and data representation in Computer Science; practical application skills in ICT. Students lose marks on trace tables by rushing rows, and on theory questions by giving an example where the command term asked for a definition or a comparison.

Arabic as a first or additional language

Cambridge 0508 / 0544 and KHDA-mandated strands

Dubai students frequently carry an IGCSE Arabic entry alongside KHDA's mandatory Arabic lessons, which have their own content and expectations. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs and sets the language of instruction for each, so treating the two as one subject leaves a student behind in both.

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure

Cambridge 0606 / Pearson 4PM1

Taken by stronger candidates heading for A Level Mathematics, and genuinely useful preparation for it. The jump in algebraic demand from the main IGCSE is steep, and students who found 0580 Extended comfortable through pattern recognition rather than understanding tend to stall here first.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE support in this part of Dubai. They differ in who teaches, what the hour costs and whether board knowledge is part of the deal.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed weekly hour with a teacher who works to your child's board and syllabus code, on Gulf Standard Time. Screen sharing puts the student's marked paper, the specimen paper and the mark scheme in front of both sides. Because no travel sits inside the rate, the tutor can be the person who knows 4CH1 rather than the person who lives in Al Barsha.

  • Matched to the exact board and code, confirmed before the first lesson
  • Timed to the real school-run return from Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha
  • Past-paper scripts annotated live and kept by the student
  • No travel loading in the hourly rate
  • Traffic on Al Wasl Road does not decide whether the lesson happens

A scoped block before a series

Two or three sessions a week for a defined number of weeks, aimed at the June or November series. Useful when the gap is identifiable - stoichiometry, electricity, algebraic manipulation - and the clock is short. Less useful as a substitute for sustained work across Years 10 and 11, because exam technique on weak foundations has a ceiling.

  • Scoped to named topics and named papers, with a fixed end date
  • Built from the student's own marked mocks rather than a generic plan
  • Timed-paper practice under real conditions, marked and logged
  • Cost known at the start because the number of hours is fixed

Board transition and entry-decision support

Help at the two moments that cost most: a student moving school and board mid-course, and a tiering decision between Core and Extended or Foundation and Higher. Both are structural rather than content problems, and both are resolved by mapping what the new syllabus assesses against what the student has actually covered.

  • Syllabus-to-syllabus mapping when a student changes board
  • Honest view on tiering, with the capped-grade arithmetic spelled out
  • What to ask the school's exams officer, and when
  • Gap list the student and the school can both see

Parent briefing on boards and entries

A short separate conversation for the parent about which board, which tier and which papers their child is entered for, and what each of those means. It exists because entry decisions are made by schools, affect grades permanently, and are frequently not explained in terms a parent can interrogate.

  • Which board and code your child is actually entered for
  • What the tier caps and what it would take to move
  • How practical science is assessed on your child's route
  • The questions to put to the exams officer in writing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Manara

01

What "knows the syllabus" actually means for IGCSE

  • Ask for the board and the four-character syllabus code before anything else
  • Ask which tier your child is entered for and what that tier caps at
  • Ask how practical science is assessed on that specific route
  • A specific answer to all three is the test; a confident "yes" is not

It means naming the code. A tutor who knows your child's syllabus will ask, in the first two minutes, which board and which code - 0580 or 4MA1, 0620 or 4CH1, 0625 or 4PH1 - and will tell you what changes between them. A tutor who says "IGCSE maths, yes, no problem" has not answered the question you asked. This is not pedantry. The codes carry different paper structures, different tiering rules, different calculator permissions and different practical arrangements, and a student prepared for the wrong one loses marks that have nothing to do with how well they understand mathematics.

The second part is tiering. Cambridge 0580 splits into Core and Extended and Core is capped, so a student entered for Core cannot reach the top grades however well they perform. Pearson Mathematics A splits into Foundation and Higher on the same logic, while Mathematics B is a single harder tier. A tutor who does not know which tier your child is entered for cannot tell you whether the grade you are hoping for is arithmetically available, which is the most important thing a parent can be told in Year 10.

The third part is practical science, and it is the question most often missed in Dubai. Different routes handle it differently - some through a practical examination, some through an alternative-to-practical written paper assessing the same skills on paper. Which one your child faces changes what preparation is useful. Rehearsing laboratory technique for a student sitting a written alternative paper is wasted time; neglecting graph, table and method-evaluation work for that same student is lost marks.

So the honest version of the question in this page's title is answerable, and the answer is a test rather than a map. Ask the code. Ask the tier. Ask how practical science is assessed on that route. A tutor in Al Manara, Al Barsha or anywhere else who answers all three specifically is worth considering. One who answers none of them is a general tutor, which is a different and sometimes adequate product - but you should know which one you are buying.

02

The syllabus codes side by side

This table is the single most useful thing to have open when interviewing a tutor, and no competitor page in this search result publishes anything like it. Across the entire researched area cluster, exactly one syllabus code appears anywhere. Yet the code is the qualification: it determines the papers, the tiering and the assessment of practical work, and it is printed on your child's school entry confirmation.

Read it as a comparison rather than a list. The point is not that one board is harder - that argument is mostly folklore - but that they are different, and that a tutor's familiarity is board-specific in practice even when their subject knowledge is not. A teacher who has marked Cambridge Physics for a decade knows exactly which command words trigger which mark-scheme points in 0625. Dropped into 4PH1 they will teach the physics correctly and miss some of the technique, which is the part you were paying for.

Two practical notes on using it. First, confirm the code with your child's school rather than assuming from the textbook on the shelf - schools change boards, and a student who joined mid-course may have covered material from both. Second, where a school enters students for Combined or Coordinated Sciences rather than three separate sciences, the codes differ again and the depth expected is different, which matters for anyone planning A Level sciences afterwards.

Always check the live official syllabus document on the board's own site rather than relying on a summary, including this one. Cambridge publishes its syllabuses at cambridgeinternational.org and Pearson at qualifications.pearson.com, and both revise content between cycles.

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher: the entry decision nobody explains

This is where Al Manara families lose grades without knowing it, and it happens months before the exam. Tiered IGCSE subjects cap the available grade at the lower tier. A student entered for Cambridge 0580 Core cannot reach the top grades however well they sit the paper, and a student entered for Extended who should have been on Core can lose marks across a paper that was never pitched at them. Neither outcome is a teaching failure. Both are entry decisions.

The decision belongs to the school, which is right - they have the data. But it is a decision a parent can and should interrogate, and the window for that conversation is Year 10 or early Year 11, not March. The useful question is not "which tier is better" but "what does my child's current performance predict on each tier, and what would have to change between now and entry to make the higher tier the better bet". A school with a view on that will say so.

Where a tutor is genuinely valuable here is in the arithmetic rather than the opinion. A specialist who knows the paper structure can look at a mock script and say which marks were lost to content gaps that are fixable in the time available and which were lost to the paper being pitched above the student's current fluency. That distinction is the whole decision, and it is not visible from a percentage.

The table sets out the tiering landscape across the subjects Al Manara families ask about most. Confirm every row against your child's actual entry, because schools make different choices and some change them between cohorts.

Home tutoring in Al Manara: what the market charges and what travel buys

Take the home-tutoring question on its own terms, because it is a legitimate purchase and the prices are knowable. In-home one-to-one tuition across Dubai is quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate's 2026 rate table, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33-52. Named specialists run AED 200-450 and beyond, TutorChase at AED 270, with premium rates reaching AED 650 at BartyED.

The gap between the in-home and online bands is not a quality difference. It is the price of a car. A tutor coming to an Al Manara villa is driving in from Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim or further, through late-afternoon traffic on Al Wasl Road or Umm Suqeim Street, and doing it again in reverse. One hour of teaching takes two and a half hours to deliver, and the rate reflects that honestly.

What the premium buys is worth naming fairly: a person in the room, physical supervision, and a working environment that does not compete with the laptop it runs on. For a younger student, or a household where screen discipline is genuinely the issue, that is worth paying for and plenty of Dubai providers deliver it well. What the premium does not buy is board specialism, because travel time forces generalism - nobody fills a week with 4CH1 Chemistry students living within twenty minutes of their own villa.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and for an Al Manara family delivery is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The table below makes the comparison concrete, including the cases where the in-home option genuinely wins.

How practical science is actually assessed on your child's route

  • Establish whether the route uses a practical examination or a written alternative paper
  • Written alternative papers reward method evaluation, tables, graphs and anomaly reasoning
  • Practical examinations need school apparatus; the thinking can be prepared remotely
  • Private-candidate practical arrangements are set by the board and the centre, so ask them first
  • Check the live syllabus document rather than a summary, including this one

This is the question that separates a tutor who knows the syllabus from one who knows the subject, and it is the one Dubai parents most often never think to ask. IGCSE science routes assess practical skills in different ways. Some use a practical examination; some use a written alternative-to-practical paper that tests the same skills - method evaluation, variable identification, table and graph construction, anomaly handling - entirely on paper. The content being examined is similar. The preparation that helps is not.

If your child sits a written alternative paper, the useful work is paper-based: reading a described method and identifying its flaw, constructing a results table with correct headings and units before any data arrives, plotting and interpreting a line of best fit, and explaining why an anomalous point is anomalous. That is a learnable, fast-moving skill set, and a term of rehearsing titration technique in a kitchen does nothing for it.

If your child sits a practical examination, the work is different again, and a tutor working over video can genuinely prepare the thinking even where the apparatus is not shared: the sequence, the readings to take, the precision expected, the common procedural errors. What an online tutor cannot do is stand beside a burette. Schools run the practical sessions and that is where the hands-on rehearsal belongs, which is worth knowing before paying anyone for it.

One honest caution for families considering private-candidate entry, which comes up in Dubai more than elsewhere because of mid-year moves. Practical arrangements for private candidates are set by the board and the centre, not by a tutor, and they constrain which subjects a private candidate can sit at all. Check with the examination centre first, in writing, before building a plan around it.

06

The June and November series, counted backwards

UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a student in Dubai - a point worth stating plainly, because a page quoting the wrong window to a UAE parent is a page that causes real harm.

The zone rule matters more than most families realise. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. That is one email to your child's exams officer, and it should be in writing.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why every plan should link the live official timetable rather than lean on dates restated elsewhere, including here.

Counted backwards, the pattern is the same whichever board you are on: entries close months before the papers, mocks are the last honest diagnostic, the final weeks are for timed papers under real conditions, and results arrive on a known date with a resit series available. The table lays that out with the ownership column filled in, because knowing who sets a deadline is most of meeting it.

MoE equivalency: the five-subject rule, stated correctly

This matters for any Al Manara family whose child may apply to a UAE university, and one ranking competitor in this market publishes it wrong, which makes stating it correctly worth doing carefully. For the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3.

The detail that trips families up: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. A competitor page in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. That is not what the published requirement says, and a family planning option choices around a wrong number may drop a subject they needed or carry one they did not.

For completeness, because Dubai families often hold more than one curriculum between siblings: on the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. No IB points threshold appears in the sourced material, so none is published here - if your child is on the Diploma, that figure must come from moe.gov.ae or the attestation authority directly.

Two cautions. Equivalency is a regulatory process run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate attestation authority, not something a tutoring provider performs, guarantees or accelerates, and no tutoring is required for it. And requirements change - verify every line against the authority's own current page before acting on it, however recently a page like this one was reviewed.

Checking a tutor is permitted, and what a tutor may not do

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit - it is free and takes two working days
  • No fine amounts are published, so treat any quoted figure as unreliable
  • Decline the arrangement where your child's own teacher is paid privately
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; nothing is written or completed for the student
  • "KHDA-approved tutor" describes nothing that exists for individuals

Two checks, both free, both worth making before money changes hands. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted at you by anyone.

The eligible categories are broad - teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. There is also a rule worth knowing: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Avoid paying your child's own classroom teacher privately, however kindly it is offered.

The second check is the coursework boundary. IGCSE coursework components, where a subject has them, must be the student's own work, and the same applies to anything a student submits for internal assessment. A tutor may teach the skill, explain the assessment criteria, mark practice work, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of a submission, supply data, or edit a draft to completion. One provider in the adjacent IB market openly sells completed Internal Assessments; the risk in buying anything of that kind falls on the student.

One more thing a parent should know how to check: no individual tutor in Dubai is KHDA-approved, because that status does not exist for individuals. KHDA regulates and inspects Dubai private schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises, but it does not rate or approve individual tutors. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no premises in the UAE and claims no regulator approval of any kind. If a provider charges a premium for an approval that does not exist, that is the clearest overpayment available in this market.

What happens when the right board specialist is not free

  • Narrow board and subject combinations have real availability limits before a series
  • If the exact specialist is not free at your hour, you are told, with dated alternatives
  • An adjacent-board specialist may be offered, with the differences stated openly
  • Tutor location is disclosed, not hidden behind a local-looking contact number
  • The trial lesson tests the match at no cost before any hours are agreed

Availability transparency is the gap nobody in this market fills, so here it is. Some board and subject combinations are taught by a small number of people, and in the weeks before the June series the right specialist for a narrow route may not have a slot at the hour an Al Manara family needs. Pretending otherwise is how a parent ends up with somebody who nodded at a code they have not taught.

The honest options get stated rather than hidden. A different time with the right specialist. A short wait with an actual date attached. Or a closely adjacent specialist - a Cambridge Chemistry teacher taking a Pearson 4CH1 student, say - who can cover the topic you need now, with the board differences named openly so you can judge. For a student with a mock in three weeks, that adjacent match is often the better answer than a perfect one in six.

Delivery being online also means the specialist may not be in the UAE, and that is stated rather than disguised. Sessions are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the Al Manara school run. Two competitors researched in this market route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers without saying so, and one shows a Dubai footer address on an Abu Dhabi page. A family choosing a board specialist over a nearby generalist is entitled to know exactly what they are choosing.

The free trial lesson is what makes all of this checkable rather than a promise. One lesson, with the student's own marked paper on screen, with the tutor naming the code and the paper. If the fit is wrong, nothing is owed and no block has been bought.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Manara

Al Manara sits in the middle of two school clusters, which is why board knowledge matters more here than in a neighbourhood tied to one campus. These are the areas that shape an Al Manara family's week.

Al Manara

Inland villa community along Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, between the coast and Al Barsha. Well connected by road in both directions, which is exactly why children from one street attend schools on different exam boards.

Umm Suqeim

Coastal and school-dense, a short drive seaward along Umm Suqeim Street. Several of the British-curriculum campuses Al Manara children attend sit here, and the afternoon return is slower than the map suggests.

Al Safa

North-east along Al Wasl Road towards Sheikh Zayed Road, with established schools and a heavy load at the Al Safa interchange in the afternoon. A common second-choice school catchment for Al Manara households.

Al Barsha

Inland across Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai's densest school clusters and the single biggest influence on Al Manara's tutoring market. Most in-home quotes to Al Manara originate from this direction.

Al Quoz

Industrial and mixed-use between Al Manara and Al Barsha, home to several training institutes. Relevant because an institute with premises operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit rather than an individual tutor's MoHRE permit.

Jumeirah 2 and 3

Coastal villa districts to the north-west, supplying more of the British-curriculum intake. The further seaward the campus, the later a realistic weekday session starts for a family driving back inland.

Al Wasl

The corridor immediately north of Al Manara along Al Wasl Road, residential and school-adjacent. Shares Al Manara's split catchment and the same board-mixing effect on the local tutor pool.

Umm Al Sheif and Al Safa 2

Neighbouring villa pockets with similar housing and the same school-run routes. Families here receive the same in-home quotes from the same Al Barsha-based tutors as Al Manara households do.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Further south-west down Sheikh Zayed Road. Mentioned because a tutor driving from there to Al Manara in late afternoon traffic is the clearest illustration of what a travel premium actually pays for.

Business Bay and Downtown

North-east along the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor, where some Al Manara parents work. The evening commute home is the constraint that decides whether a 4.30pm or a 6pm session is realistic.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the code, not the subject

The first message that saves a week names the board and the syllabus code: "Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry, Year 11, mock in five weeks". If you do not have it, your child's school entry confirmation does. "IGCSE science help" takes two exchanges before anything useful can start.

  2. 02

    Attach the marked mock

The most useful document an Al Manara parent can send is the last marked paper with the examiner-style annotations or the teacher's marks. A specialist reads it diagnostically: which topics, which command terms, whether the loss is content, technique or timing. Nothing else tells you that.

  3. 03

See the proposed tutor and the board match

You get a named tutor with the boards and codes they have actually taught, and the reasoning behind the match. If the exact board specialist is not free at your preferred hour, you are told, with alternatives rather than a quiet substitution.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson at no cost, with the marked paper on screen. It should end with the specific topics and command terms that are costing marks, and an honest number of hours. Nothing is owed afterwards if the answer is no.

  5. 05

Set the slot against the real return time

Al Manara feeds schools in two directions, so arrival home varies by campus. The weekly slot is fixed against your actual return rather than an idealised one, and it holds each week. Nothing depends on a tutor's drive along Al Wasl Road.

  6. 06

Measure against the school's next marked paper

Progress is judged on the next paper the school marks, not on an internal report nobody else uses. After a mock round the plan either holds or changes, and you hear why in language you can take to the head of department.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by code, not by distance

An Al Manara enquiry is matched to a teacher who has taught the specific board and syllabus code - 0580 or 4MA1, 0620 or 4CH1 - rather than to whoever will drive to the villa at 5pm. Preparation for IGCSE is board-specific, and the technique is the part you are paying for.

The tiering arithmetic gets explained

Core and Foundation tiers cap the grade available, and that decision is made by the school months before the papers. A specialist can read a mock script and say whether the higher tier is realistically reachable in the time left. That is the most consequential conversation in Year 10.

Rates are quoted with their source

Every AED band here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it - Bestimate, Unitors, EdFlik, Tutopiya, TutorChase, BartyED - with no invented IB Gram price list. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all, and two quote in a currency UAE parents do not use.

Exam dates come from the boards

Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates and allocates each centre to one of six zones; Pearson's November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The India-only February/March series is named as such, and official timetables are linked rather than restated.

The coursework boundary is stated

A tutor teaches, marks practice work and comments on drafts the student wrote. Nothing is written, rewritten or completed for a student on any assessed component. In a market where completed coursework is openly sold, that is the protection your child needs rather than a disclaimer.

Delivery and availability are disclosed

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are an India-only service. Where a board specialist has no slot at your hour you are told, with dated options, and the tutor's location is stated rather than hidden behind a local-looking number.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Manara: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE tutor near Al Manara who knows my child's exact syllabus?+

There are capable tutors within a short drive, and proximity will not tell you whether any of them knows your child's board. IGCSE is offered by Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA with different codes, papers and tiering rules, and Al Manara children attend schools in two clusters that use different boards. The test is four questions: which board, which code, which tier, and how practical science is assessed on that route. A specialist answers all four immediately. Lessons with IB Gram are one-to-one over live video, which is how the pool stops being limited by driving distance.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to a villa in Al Manara?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For an Al Manara family, lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the student's marked paper, the specimen paper and the mark scheme are visible to both sides and the annotated script stays with the student. That is the mechanism rather than a limitation: removing the drive is what allows a household in a neighbourhood between two school clusters to work with a teacher who knows their specific board and code.

Where is the syllabus code written down, and who at the school has it?+

Ask the school, and ask in writing. The entry confirmation carries the board and the four-character syllabus code - 0580 or 4MA1 for mathematics, 0620 or 4CH1 for chemistry, 0625 or 4PH1 for physics. Do not infer it from the textbook, because schools change boards and a student who joined mid-course may have covered material from two. While you are asking, request the tier your child is entered for and, for Cambridge candidates, which of the six administrative zones your centre sits in, since the timetable differs by zone.

What is the real difference between Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1?+

They are different qualifications assessing similar mathematics. Cambridge 0580 is tiered into Core and Extended with Core capped at a lower maximum grade, and the two written papers differ in calculator permissions depending on the component. Pearson Mathematics A 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher with two equally weighted papers and a calculator permitted throughout, while Mathematics B is a single harder tier. The consequence for preparation is technique rather than content: paper structure, timing and the command words that trigger mark-scheme points all differ, and that is what board-specific experience buys.

What does in-home IGCSE tuition cost in this part of Dubai?+

Market figures, not ours. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. Online, a qualified subject tutor is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Budget online tutoring starts lower, EdFlik from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33-52, and named specialists reach AED 200-450 and beyond. The gap between in-home and online is travel, not teaching quality: one hour delivered takes a tutor about two and a half.

Is Core or Extended the right entry for my child?+

It depends on the mock evidence, and the decision belongs to the school. What matters is understanding the arithmetic: Core and Foundation tiers cap the grade available however well the paper is sat, while the higher tier offers the full range but asks questions pitched above a student who is not yet fluent. The useful question to the school is not which tier is better but what your child's current performance predicts on each, and what would have to change by the entry deadline. A specialist reading a marked mock can separate fixable content gaps from fluency problems.

How is IGCSE practical science assessed if lessons happen online?+

It depends on the route, and that is the first thing to establish. Some IGCSE science routes use a practical examination; others use a written alternative-to-practical paper assessing the same skills on paper - identifying variables, evaluating a described method, building results tables, plotting and interpreting graphs, handling anomalies. If your child sits the written alternative, the useful preparation is entirely paper-based and works well over video. If they sit a practical examination, the apparatus work belongs at school, though the sequence, precision and common procedural errors can all be prepared remotely.

Which exam series do Dubai IGCSE candidates actually sit?+

The June series and the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. Always work from the live official timetable on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com rather than any restated dates, including those on this page, because provisional timetables get revised.

Why does my child's Cambridge exam timetable differ from a cousin's abroad?+

Because of zones. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and it states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Two candidates sitting the same syllabus in different countries, or occasionally at different centres, can face different dates and times. It is a single question to your child's exams officer and worth having the answer in writing before any revision plan is built around a date.

Is it five or six IGCSE passes that the Ministry actually counts?+

Five, for the British track. The published guidance requires passing five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One ranking competitor in this market states six subjects, which does not match the sourced requirement. Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process, not something a tutoring provider performs - verify every detail on moe.gov.ae.

Can a tutor help with IGCSE coursework or must it be entirely my child's own work?+

It must be the student's own work, and a tutor can still help substantially within that. They can teach the skill the component assesses, explain the assessment criteria in plain language, mark practice attempts, and give written questions and comments on a draft the student wrote. They cannot write or rewrite any part of a submission, supply data or a conclusion, or edit a draft to completion. The honest test for a parent: could your child explain every decision in the work unprompted? If not, the line was crossed, and the consequence falls on the student.

Does a private tutor working with an Al Manara family need a UAE permit?+

A tutor delivering private lessons in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, MoHRE lists no fees and states a two-working-day completion time, and eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published so no amount should be quoted at you.

Is a tuition centre group class a reasonable alternative for IGCSE?+

For some things, yes. A group class is cheaper per hour and works well for topic revision where every student needs the same content - stoichiometry, electricity, algebraic manipulation. It works badly where the problem is specific to your child's board, tier or command-term technique, because a mixed group cannot be taught to one syllabus code. Note too that a centre with premises in Dubai operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit, a different licence from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit, and it is reasonable to ask for the number.

My child is moving school and board mid-course. What actually needs doing?+

A syllabus-to-syllabus mapping, done quickly. Changing from Cambridge to Pearson or the reverse mid-course usually means some content has been covered that the new syllabus does not assess, and some has not been covered that it does. Paper structure, tiering and practical assessment may all change too. The practical job is a written gap list the student and the new school can both see, built by comparing the two live syllabus documents rather than from memory. Do it in the first fortnight, because the gaps compound quietly and surface in a mock.

What should an Al Manara parent send before the first IGCSE lesson?+

Four things, and they take ten minutes to gather. The board and syllabus code from the school's entry confirmation. The tier your child is entered for. The most recent marked paper, with whatever annotations the teacher made. And the date of the next assessment that matters, whether that is a mock or a series. With those, a specialist can name the topics and command terms losing marks in the first session rather than the third, which is the difference between four useful hours and twelve.

Start with the board, the code and the tier

If you came here looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Manara, the question worth answering first is not who lives nearby - it is which qualification your child is actually sitting. Send the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the last marked paper, and you will get a tutor who has taught that route, the reasoning behind the match, and a free trial lesson before any block is agreed. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed to when your child really gets home from Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and this page would rather tell you that than let you find out later.
