IGCSE Maths Tutor in Al Manara

An IGCSE maths tutor in Al Manara is the best-value hour a Dubai family can buy, and the easiest to buy badly. The subject rewards technique over content, which means a grade step can take fewer hours than parents expect - and the largest single sum most families lose has nothing to do with teaching at all. It is the tier the school entered the child for. This page does the arithmetic. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • AED figures attributed to whoever published them
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 treated as different qualifications

IB & IGCSE in Al Manara

The maths money most Al Manara families lose is not spent on tutoring

It is lost at entry. Tiered IGCSE mathematics caps the grade available at the lower tier: a student entered for Cambridge 0580 Core cannot reach the top grades however well they sit the paper, and the same logic applies to Pearson Mathematics A at Foundation. Families spend a year buying hours to lift a grade that the entry decision has already ceilinged, and nobody tells them, because the entry is a school matter and the tutoring is a separate transaction. That is the most expensive thing on this page and it costs nothing to check.

So begin there. Ask the school, in writing, which board and syllabus code your child is entered for and which tier. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580, with 0606 Additional Mathematics as the harder extra. Pearson Edexcel runs 4MA1 Mathematics A, tiered Foundation and Higher, plus 4MB1 Mathematics B as a single harder tier and 4PM1 Further Pure. Those are different qualifications with different papers and different calculator permissions, and the tier within them governs what is arithmetically reachable before any teaching happens.

With that settled, IGCSE mathematics is genuinely the best-value subject in the Dubai tutoring market, for a reason worth understanding. Most lost marks in it are technique rather than content: unshown working, premature rounding, a correct method abandoned because the student cannot rearrange under time pressure, a command word misread. Those are habits, and habits move faster than knowledge. A grade step in biology may need a term of content; a grade step in maths often needs six to ten well-aimed hours and homework between them.

The market prices, with the name attached to each. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Named specialists run AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table at 200-450+, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently. Monthly, published packages run about AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Al Manara's position shapes the in-home end of that range. The neighbourhood sits inland on Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street between two school clusters, so a tutor driving to a villa here comes from Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim or further through late-afternoon traffic. One hour of teaching takes about two and a half to deliver, and the quote reflects that honestly rather than greedily. IB Gram does not sell it: home visits are a service we run only in India, and for an Al Manara family lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

What follows is the arithmetic - hours per grade step by topic, the tier cap in numbers, the five places the money goes missing, and what a resit actually costs if the first series goes wrong.

At a glance

  • Tiered entry caps the grade: Core and Foundation cannot reach the top grades, whatever the teaching
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, 4MB1, 4PM1 are different qualifications with different papers
  • Most IGCSE maths marks are lost to technique, which moves faster and cheaper than content
  • Dubai market: budget AED 33-65; qualified subject tutor AED 150-300; specialist AED 200-450+; in-home AED 180-500
  • Published monthly packages: about AED 799 for eight online sessions, AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home visits
  • IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video; home visits are an India-only service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Manara maths enquiry sits somewhere in a British-curriculum sequence, and the spending logic changes at each stage. These are the four, with the honest value of an hour at each.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 mathematics

Negative numbers, fractions, indices, basic algebra and the habit of showing working. The IGCSE syllabuses assume all of it, which means a gap here is not a Year 9 problem - it is a Year 11 problem that has not arrived yet. Teaching at this stage sits at the lower end of the rate card and requires no syllabus specialism at all.

The best-value maths purchase available to a Dubai family, and the one least often made. A Year 8 who cannot handle negatives reliably becomes the Year 11 whose physics and chemistry marks are also being eaten by rearrangement errors, and by then three subjects are being paid for instead of one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE mathematics

Cambridge 0580, tiered Core and Extended, with two written papers per tier. Pearson 4MA1 Mathematics A, tiered Foundation and Higher, with two equally weighted papers and a calculator permitted throughout. Pearson 4MB1 Mathematics B is a single harder tier. Exams are sat as a June or November series for UAE candidates.

This is the stage nearly all Al Manara enquiries concern, and the stage where the entry decision quietly governs the return on any tutoring spend. Confirm the code and tier in writing before buying hours, because the two facts together determine what is reachable.

AddMathsAges 15-16 · Year 11

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 and Pearson 4PM1, taken by stronger candidates alongside the main qualification and genuinely useful preparation for A Level or IB Higher Level mathematics. The algebraic demand jumps sharply, which makes performance here a reliable early signal of whether an advanced post-16 maths course is realistic.

Worth paying for only where the post-16 destination needs it. For an Al Manara family whose child is heading for a non-mathematical pathway, hours spent on Additional Mathematics are hours taken from subjects that will decide the outcome.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level and IB Diploma mathematics

The two destinations from Al Manara's schools. A Level Mathematics assumes fluency the IGCSE only begins; the IB splits into Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher and Standard Level, with an internally assessed exploration in all four.

The financial reason to fix IGCSE maths properly rather than to grade-hunt. Specialist post-16 maths tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 200-450 and above, so fluency built at IGCSE rates is fluency that does not have to be bought again at Higher Level rates.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE maths is best budgeted topic by topic, because the hours a grade step needs differ enormously between them. Below, what each topic costs in attention.

Algebraic manipulation

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Rearrangement, expanding, factorising, indices and surds. The highest-return topic in the subject because every other topic depends on it, and because failures here show up as lost marks in physics and chemistry too. Usually a handful of hours of drilled practice under time rather than explanation.

Equations and inequalities

All tiers

Linear, simultaneous and quadratic, with inequalities and number lines at the higher tiers. Marks go on solutions presented without checking, and on quadratics solved by formula when factorising was faster and less error-prone. Technique work, moves quickly.

Functions and graphs

Extended and Higher mainly

Transformations, domains, inverse and composite functions, and sketching. Students lose marks by sketching without key points labelled and by giving a domain they have not checked. A conceptually demanding topic that still responds to a defined number of hours.

Trigonometry

Core through Extended

Right-angled work at the lower tiers, then sine and cosine rules and non-right-angled triangles. The commonest loss is a calculator in the wrong angle mode, which costs whole questions and takes one session to eliminate permanently.

Geometry and circle theorems

Extended and Higher

Angle reasoning where marks are awarded for naming the theorem rather than for the number. Students who get the right answer with no reasoning shown lose most of the marks available, which makes this a cheap fix with a visible effect on a paper total.

Mensuration and similarity

All tiers

Areas, volumes, arcs, sectors, and similar shapes with length, area and volume scale factors. Scale factors are the classic error - applying a length factor to an area - and it is a single misconception rather than a body of content.

Vectors

Extended and Higher

Column vectors, magnitude, and geometric arguments using vector paths. Usually taught late and rushed, which is why it is overrepresented in dropped marks. A well-spent two sessions for a student aiming at the top grades.

Probability and statistics

All tiers

Tree diagrams, conditional probability, averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency and histograms. The marks are procedural and sit close to the surface, which makes this one of the quickest topics to lift for a student currently guessing at it.

Number and ratio

Core and Foundation especially

Percentages, reverse percentages, compound interest, ratio and proportion, standard form, bounds. Heavily weighted at the lower tiers and routinely under-practised by students who consider it beneath them, which is where Core and Foundation grades are actually won.

Calculus, where the syllabus includes it

Higher tiers and Additional Mathematics

Differentiation and its applications where the route covers them. For most IGCSE candidates this is the smallest slice of the paper and the largest slice of the anxiety, which makes it a common place to overspend relative to the marks available.

Calculator technique

All tiers, Pearson especially

Pearson Mathematics A permits a calculator throughout, which changes the balance of skills against some Cambridge components. Memory use, mode discipline and sensible rounding are worth one session and recover marks across every topic on the paper.

Exam technique and timing

All tiers

Allocating minutes by marks, decoding command words, showing working that earns method marks, and leaving nothing blank. Not a topic, and frequently the single highest-return thing in a six-hour block for a student who already knows the content.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to spend on IGCSE maths, ordered by how well each converts money into marks for a typical Al Manara student.

A defined block aimed at named topics

Six to twelve sessions scoped to the topics a marked paper identified, with practice set between them. The best-value purchase in this subject because IGCSE maths loses most of its marks to technique, and technique responds to a finite number of well-aimed hours rather than to an open-ended commitment.

  • Topics chosen from the marked script, not from a syllabus checklist
  • A fixed number of sessions, so the total cost is known at the start
  • Practice set between sessions and marked at the next one
  • Ends with a decision rather than rolling on by default

One protected weekly hour across Year 10 and 11

Steady weekly contact with the same teacher, which suits a student whose problem is cumulative rather than specific - gaps from an earlier year, or a habit of not showing working. Slower to show on a paper total than a targeted block, more durable once it does.

  • Same tutor weekly, so gaps are closed in a sensible order
  • Timed to the real arrival home from Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha
  • Past-paper scripts annotated live and kept by the student
  • No travel loading inside the rate

A pre-series intensive

Two or three sessions a week in the weeks before the June or November series, built from the marked mock and spent on timed papers rather than on new content. Good value where the content is largely there and the marks are going on timing, working and command words.

  • Full papers under time, marked, with an error list kept
  • Scoped to specific question types the mock exposed
  • Fixed end date so the spend does not drift
  • Nothing new introduced in the final fortnight

Holiday catch-up blocks

Winter, spring and summer breaks are where a student with genuine content gaps can cover ground that a single term-time hour cannot. Also the right shape where the weekday clock in an Al Manara household simply does not contain a usable slot.

  • Concentrated hours without competing with homework
  • Suits a student rebuilding earlier years rather than polishing technique
  • Works for families travelling, since sessions follow the time zone
  • A natural point to reassess before the next term

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Manara

01

What the tier cap costs, in numbers

This section exists because it is the largest sum on the page and almost no competitor page in this market mentions tiering at all. In tiered IGCSE mathematics the lower tier caps the maximum grade: a candidate entered for Cambridge 0580 Core cannot be awarded the top grades, and the same is true of Pearson Mathematics A at Foundation. The paper is pitched so that the ceiling is a feature of the entry, not of the performance.

So the first question is not how many hours a grade step takes but whether the grade you are aiming at is available. A family spending AED 800 a month for eight months to lift a Core candidate into the top band is spending money on an outcome the entry has excluded. Conversely a student entered for Extended or Higher who is not yet fluent enough faces questions pitched above their current level across a whole paper, and loses marks that no content teaching recovers - a different error with the same financial shape.

The decision belongs to the school and that is correct, because the school holds the data. But it is interrogable, and the window is Year 10 into early Year 11 rather than March. The question worth asking is: what does my child's current performance predict on each tier, and what specifically would have to change by the entry deadline for the higher tier to be the better bet? A school with a view will answer that; a school without one has told you something useful too.

Where a tutor genuinely earns their fee here is in the evidence rather than the opinion. A specialist reading a marked mock can separate marks lost to fixable technique from marks lost to the paper being pitched above the student's fluency, and that distinction is the whole decision. It takes one session, which makes it the cheapest consequential hour available in this subject.

Hours per grade step, by where the marks are going

Parents ask how many sessions it will take and are usually given a number designed to sound reassuring. The honest answer depends entirely on where the marks are being lost, and a marked paper tells you that in ten minutes. Three categories cover almost every IGCSE maths student, and they have very different price tags.

The first is technique on known content: working not shown so method marks are forfeited, premature rounding, calculator in the wrong mode, a command word misread, time mismanaged so the last questions are blank. This is the cheapest and fastest category. Six to ten hours with practice between sessions changes a paper total visibly, because the knowledge is already there and only the harvesting is broken.

The second is a specific topic gap - circle theorems never properly taught, vectors rushed at the end of Year 10, similarity scale factors misunderstood. These are bounded: two to four hours each, diagnosed and fixed, and they stay fixed. The third is fluency: the student cannot rearrange, cannot handle indices, loses the thread of multi-step algebra. That one is not a term's worth of content but it is not two hours either, and it is the category families most often misdiagnose as the first.

The table puts indicative hours against each so a budget can be built rather than guessed. Treat it as a planning range from a marked script, not a promise - every student starts somewhere different, and no specific grade outcome can be predicted by anybody. What can be said honestly is which category you are in and roughly what it takes.

The Dubai rate card, read against hours needed

Rates only mean something multiplied by hours, so here they are with the name attached to each figure, ready to be put against the table above. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour. EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named specialists are quoted AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table showing 200-450+ and BartyED publishing AED 650.

Now combine them. A technique problem needing six hours at a qualified-tutor rate is a one-off spend rather than a monthly commitment. A fluency problem needing twelve to fifteen hours at the same rate is a defined block over a term. Neither needs the AED 200-450 specialist band, because IGCSE mathematics is a widely taught syllabus and the premium at the top of this market is largely about scarcity in post-16 and IB work rather than about IGCSE content.

That is a genuine saving and worth saying plainly: for IGCSE maths specifically, the qualified subject tutor band is usually the right tier. Where specialism does add value is board knowledge - a teacher who knows whether your child sits 0580 or 4MA1, what the tiering caps, and how the papers differ - and that is a question rather than a price. A tutor at AED 180 who names the code is more useful than one at AED 400 who does not.

The in-home band is the exception to the whole argument. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at up to AED 500, against AED 150-300 online. Published monthly packages run about AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits: half the contact days for roughly twice the outlay. For maths, where the work is annotated calculation both parties need to see, that premium buys a drive from Al Barsha rather than better teaching. Where supervision is the real need it is worth paying for, and plenty of Dubai providers deliver it - IB Gram does not, because home visits are a service we run only in India.

Five places IGCSE maths money goes missing in Dubai

  • Buying hours before confirming the board, code and tier in writing
  • Paying a tutor to supervise past papers that nobody marks diagnostically
  • Re-teaching content when the marks are going on arithmetic and rearrangement
  • Group classes that cannot address one student's tier, board and command-term habits
  • An in-home premium for annotated calculation that a shared screen handles fully

First, buying hours before checking the tier. It bears repeating because it dwarfs the others. Confirm the board, the code and the tier in writing from the school, then decide what to buy. The check is free and the mistake is a year of fees.

Second, the past-paper mill. A tutor who works through paper after paper without marking them diagnostically is charging you to supervise something your child could do alone. Past papers are essential and they are only useful when someone reads the script and says why a mark was lost. If the session is mostly the student working in silence, you are paying AED 200 an hour for a study room.

Third, paying for content when the problem is arithmetic. The commonest pattern in Year 11 is a student who understands the topic and still drops marks because a sign flipped or a fraction went wrong under time pressure. Teaching the topic again does nothing. Rearrangement and number work under time does, and it is cheaper per hour than any specialist content teaching.

Fourth, group classes for a tiered, two-board subject. A centre class containing Core and Extended candidates on two different boards receives generic mathematics; nobody can teach to one student's tier and code in that room. It is cheaper per hour and often worth less per hour. Fifth, the in-home premium for a screen-friendly subject: AED 180-500 against AED 150-300, where the difference is a car in Al Wasl Road traffic rather than better mathematics.

05

Cambridge or Pearson: what actually changes

  • Cambridge 0580 is tiered Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher
  • Pearson Mathematics A permits a calculator throughout, which changes the skill balance
  • Pearson 4MB1 Mathematics B is a single harder tier with no lower option
  • Past-paper practice on the wrong board wastes the best preparation tool available
  • Check the live syllabus on the board's own site rather than any summary

A parent does not need to know the syllabuses, but does need to know that they are different, because a tutor's familiarity is board-specific in practice even when their mathematics is not. Across the entire researched area cluster for this market, exactly one syllabus code appears anywhere - yet the code is the qualification, and it is printed on your child's entry confirmation.

Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is tiered Core and Extended, with two written papers per tier and calculator permissions varying by component. Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher, with two equally weighted papers and a calculator permitted throughout - which shifts the balance of skills noticeably, since a candidate who leans on the calculator is less exposed on arithmetic and more exposed on method and interpretation. Pearson Mathematics B 4MB1 is a single harder tier with no lower safety net.

The practical consequence is that past-paper work has to be on the right board. A student preparing with the wrong board's papers is practising unfamiliar question styles and timing, which wastes the most valuable preparation tool in the subject. It happens more often than it should in Dubai, usually after a school move, and it is one of the easiest mistakes to catch early.

For the harder extras, Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics and Pearson 4PM1 Further Pure serve a similar purpose as preparation for A Level or IB Higher Level mathematics, and both involve a steep jump in algebraic demand. Always check the live syllabus document on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com rather than any summary, including this one, because boards revise content between cycles.

06

Counting backwards to the June or November series

UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate in Dubai - which matters because a wrong exam window handed to a parent wrecks a real revision budget.

One Cambridge detail affects planning directly. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the centre sits in, in writing, before building a plan around any date.

For Pearson, International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so any plan should work from the live official timetable rather than from restated dates, including those here.

Counted backwards, the budget phases are clear: the tier and entry conversation first, then steady work or a diagnosed block, then the mock round as the last honest diagnostic, then timed papers in the final weeks, then results with a resit series available if needed. The table below adds the ownership column, because knowing who sets a deadline is most of meeting it.

07

If the first series goes wrong: resits and private entry

  • Both boards run two series a year, so a resit route exists in either direction
  • Entry fees are set by the board and the centre, so ask the school or the centre for the figure
  • Read the mark breakdown, not the grade, before deciding whether a resit is sensible
  • Resit entry windows close quickly after results, so the decision has to be fast
  • Private candidate arrangements are set by the board and the centre, not by any tutor

A resit is a real financial decision and one nobody plans for in advance. Both boards offer a second series each year, which means a disappointing June result can be addressed in November, and a disappointing November result in the following May or June. Entry fees are set by the board and the examination centre, not by a tutor, and they differ between centres, so the figure to work with comes from your child's school or from the centre you would enter through.

The first thing to do after a disappointing result is read the breakdown rather than the grade. Where the marks were lost tells you whether a resit is a sensible proposition: a candidate who was close and lost marks to timing and working across the paper is in a very different position from one who was a long way off across most topics. The second position may be better served by a different qualification route or a different tier, which is a conversation with the school rather than a tutoring purchase.

The resit window is short, which is the practical trap. Entries for the next series close weeks after results in some cases, so the decision has to be made quickly and the preparation block scoped immediately. For a close-miss candidate, a short diagnosed block on the specific question types that cost the marks is usually a better buy than a repeat of the whole year's teaching.

A note on private candidacy, which comes up in Dubai after mid-year moves and school changes. Private candidates enter through an examination centre rather than a school, and the board and the centre set what subjects and components are available - practical science arrangements in particular constrain what a private candidate can sit. Ask the centre directly, in writing, before building any plan around it, because a tutor cannot change those arrangements.

08

Checking the tutor costs nothing

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit - free, two years, two working days to issue
  • No fine amounts are published, so treat any figure quoted at you as unverified
  • Decline paying your child's own maths teacher for private lessons
  • A premises-based centre holds a KHDA Educational Services Permit; an individual cannot
  • Nobody holds IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation as a private tutor

Two free checks before any money moves. The permit first: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted at you by anybody - including by a tutor explaining their rate.

MoHRE's own service page is "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Since it is free and quick, a working tutor without one has chosen not to have one.

The second check is the arrangement itself. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat it as press-reported and verify against the current policy document, but decline the arrangement where your child's own maths teacher is paid privately, however helpfully it is offered.

And one claim to refuse outright, because it circulates widely in Dubai and sometimes carries a premium: no individual tutor in Dubai is KHDA-approved, because that status does not exist for individuals. KHDA regulates and inspects private schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises in the emirate. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no premises in the UAE and claims no regulator or board accreditation. Paying extra for an approval that does not exist is the clearest overpayment in this market.

What a well-spent first block looks like

  • Session one is diagnosis from marked work, with the problem category named
  • Technique first because it is cheapest and shows on a paper total fastest
  • Topic gaps one at a time, with practice set and marked
  • Fluency work in short drilled sections rather than whole lessons
  • Finish with full papers on the correct board and a written error list

Concrete beats reassuring, so here is the shape of eight sessions that earn their fee for an Al Manara student. Session one is diagnosis and nothing else: the marked paper is read together, the lost marks are sorted into technique, topic gap and fluency, and the honest category is named. If a tutor proposes a plan before seeing marked work, that plan is guesswork however confident it sounds.

Sessions two to six address the named thing in order of yield. Technique first, because it is cheapest and shows fastest - working shown, minutes allocated by marks, calculator discipline. Then the diagnosed topic gaps, one at a time, each with practice set between sessions and marked at the next. Fluency work runs alongside rather than instead, as short drilled sections rather than whole lessons, because rearrangement improves with frequency rather than with duration.

Sessions seven and eight are full papers on the correct board, under time, marked and dissected with an error list kept. That error list is the deliverable: a page naming the specific mistakes this student makes, which the student can reread before the real paper. It is worth more than any number of completed past papers nobody analysed.

Then the block ends and a decision is made, which is the part that distinguishes a purchase from a subscription. Some students need a second block on different topics. Some need nothing further until the pre-series phase. Some turn out to be in a tier conversation rather than a tutoring one, and should be told so. The free trial lesson means the diagnostic session costs nothing, and no block is agreed until after it.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Manara

Al Manara's position between two school clusters is what shapes in-home maths quotes here. These are the areas that set those drive times.

Al Manara

Inland villa community on Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, between the coastal and Al Barsha clusters, with a split school catchment and villa-scale street parking.

Umm Suqeim

Five to twelve minutes seaward and school-dense. The nearest supply of British-curriculum maths teachers, and the shortest in-home drive of the three directions.

Al Barsha

Twelve to twenty-five minutes inland across Sheikh Zayed Road. The longest routine drive to an Al Manara villa, which is why quotes originating here sit at the upper end of the in-home band.

Al Safa and Al Safa 2

Eight to fifteen minutes north-east along Al Wasl Road. The Al Safa interchange makes afternoon journey times here the least predictable, which affects reliability more than price.

Al Quoz

Ten to eighteen minutes inland, where several training institutes sit. Group maths classes there are cheaper per hour and cannot be taught to one student's board, code and tier.

Umm Al Sheif

Adjacent villa pocket with the same catchment and the same quotes from the same tutors. The arithmetic on this page applies unchanged.

Al Wasl

The corridor immediately north, feeding the same campuses. Marginally shorter seaward drives and marginally longer inland ones, which rarely changes a quote.

Jumeirah 3

Ten to eighteen minutes seaward, villa territory with more UK-curriculum intake. Adds reliable minutes to an in-home tutor's round trip and therefore to the rate.

Al Barsha South and Arjan

Twenty to thirty minutes inland and expanding. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three IB - creating 16,846 new places.

Business Bay

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes north-east along Sheikh Zayed Road, where many Al Manara parents work. The parental commute decides whether anybody is home to supervise an early slot.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board, code and tier in writing

Before any hours are bought, ask the school for the board, the four-character syllabus code and the tier. That is the free check that determines whether the grade you are aiming at is arithmetically available, and it is the single most valuable thing on this page.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked paper

Not a description of the problem - the script, with whatever the teacher wrote on it. Marks lost to working, to timing, to a topic gap and to fluency look completely different on a page, and they carry completely different price tags. Ten minutes of gathering saves a session of discovery.

  3. 03

See who is proposed and what they ask for

You get a named tutor with the boards and codes they have taught. The signal worth watching is whether they ask for the code and the tier before proposing anything. A plan offered without those two facts has not been built from your child's situation.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson as the diagnosis

One lesson at no cost with the marked paper on screen, ending with the problem sorted into technique, topic gap or fluency, and an indicative number of hours. If the honest answer is that this is a tier conversation with the school rather than a tutoring purchase, you will be told.

  5. 05

Buy a defined block, not a subscription

A fixed number of sessions aimed at named topics, with practice set between them and a decision at the end. IGCSE maths rewards finite well-aimed blocks, and an open monthly commitment tends to drift into supervised past papers at a specialist rate.

  6. 06

Review against the school's next mark

Judge the spend on the next assessed paper or mock, on the same topics. If the mark moved, buy the next block. If it did not after a fair run, the diagnosis was wrong and should be revised rather than repeated at greater length.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The tier gets checked before the hours

Core and Foundation entries cap the grade available, and almost no page in this market mentions it. A diagnosis that starts with the entry decision can save an Al Manara family a year of fees aimed at an outcome the entry has already excluded.

You are told which tier of tutor you need

IGCSE mathematics is a widely taught syllabus and the qualified subject tutor band at AED 150-300 is usually the right tier. Where somebody says so rather than selling the AED 200-450 specialist band, the diagnosis came from marked work rather than from a sales conversation.

Hours are estimated from the marked script

Technique problems run two to five hours, topic gaps two to four each, fluency rebuilds eight to fifteen. Those are ranges from evidence rather than reassurance, and they let a parent build a budget instead of guessing at one.

Rates come with their publisher

Tutopiya, EdFlik, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate and BartyED each published a figure quoted here, and you can check them. Three of six researched competitor pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote in a currency UAE families do not use.

Board-correct past papers

Preparation happens on the board your child actually sits - 0580 or 4MA1 - because practising unfamiliar question styles and timing wastes the best tool in the subject. That is a free improvement and one of the easiest errors to catch after a school move.

No travel inside the rate

In-home maths tuition is quoted at AED 180-500 in Dubai because a drive from Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim is priced into the hour. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Manara: your questions answered

What is the most expensive mistake in buying IGCSE maths help in Dubai?+

Buying hours before checking the tier. Tiered IGCSE mathematics caps the grade at the lower tier: a Cambridge 0580 Core candidate cannot be awarded the top grades, and the same applies to Pearson Mathematics A at Foundation. Families spend months of fees aiming at a grade the entry has already excluded, because the entry is a school matter and the tutoring is a separate transaction so nobody joins them up. Ask the school in writing for the board, the syllabus code and the tier before buying anything. The check is free.

How many hours does a grade step in IGCSE maths actually take?+

It depends on where the marks are going, and a marked paper shows that in ten minutes. Technique problems - working not shown, timing, calculator mode, misread command words - typically run two to five hours, because the knowledge is there and only the harvesting is broken. A single diagnosed topic gap runs two to four hours. An algebraic fluency rebuild runs eight to fifteen. Whole-paper weakness is twenty hours or more, and at that point the tier conversation matters more than the hours. Nobody can promise a specific grade from any of it.

Do we need a specialist, or will a qualified subject tutor do for IGCSE maths?+

For IGCSE mathematics the qualified subject tutor band is usually the right tier. The market prices it at around AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150, while named specialists at AED 200-450 and above command that premium largely for post-16 and IB work where the pool is smaller. What you do need is board knowledge: a tutor who knows whether your child sits 0580 or 4MA1, what the tier caps, and how the papers differ. A tutor at AED 180 who names the code beats one at AED 400 who does not.

Why does the same subject cost AED 50 at one provider and AED 500 at another?+

Because they are selling different things, and all the figures are real. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65, which buys somebody who was good at maths recently - genuinely useful for content. A qualified subject teacher is AED 150-300. Named specialists are AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits are AED 180-500 because a cross-city drive is priced into the hour. Match the tier to the diagnosis rather than to the anxiety.

Is paying for past-paper practice worth it?+

Only if somebody marks them diagnostically. Past papers are the best tool in this subject and they are worthless as supervised silence - if the session is mostly your child working while a tutor watches, you are paying AED 200 an hour for a study room. What earns the fee is a marked script and a conversation about why each mark went: method marks forfeited for unshown working, a command word misread, three minutes overspent on a two-mark question. The deliverable should be a written error list your child can reread before the real paper.

My child knows the topic and still drops marks. What do we buy?+

Arithmetic and rearrangement under time, not more content. The pattern is unmistakable on a marked script: the method is right, the concept is understood, and the question is abandoned two lines in or finished with a wrong value because a sign flipped. Re-teaching the topic achieves nothing, which is why families can buy a term of content revision and see the same marks. The fix is short drilled sections on rearrangement, indices, fractions and number work, run frequently rather than in long sessions, and it costs less per hour than specialist content teaching.

Does the board my child sits change how we should prepare?+

Yes, more than most families expect. Cambridge 0580 is tiered Core and Extended with calculator permissions varying by component. Pearson Mathematics A 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher with two equally weighted papers and a calculator permitted throughout, which shifts the skill balance - a candidate leaning on the calculator is less exposed on arithmetic and more exposed on method and interpretation. Pearson Mathematics B 4MB1 is a single harder tier. Practising with the wrong board's past papers wastes the best preparation tool available, and it happens often after a school move.

Is a maths group class at an Al Quoz or Al Barsha centre good value?+

It is cheaper per hour and frequently worth less per hour for a tiered, two-board subject. A centre class containing Core and Extended candidates on Cambridge and Pearson syllabuses can only deliver generic mathematics, and nobody in that room can address one student's tier, code or command-term habits. For common content revision before mocks it can work. Note also that a centre with premises in Dubai operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different licence from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit, and it is reasonable to ask for the number.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to an Al Manara villa?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For an Al Manara family lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the marked paper, the right board's past paper and the mark scheme are visible to both sides, and the annotated script stays with the student. For mathematics that is no compromise: the work is annotated calculation both parties need to see, and a shared screen does that as well as a shared table and costs no drive.

Why is in-home maths tuition quoted so much higher here?+

Because an hour of teaching takes about two and a half hours to deliver. Al Manara sits inland on Al Wasl Road between two school clusters, so a tutor is driving in from Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim or further through late-afternoon traffic, parking on a villa street, and reversing the journey. Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors up to AED 500, against AED 150-300 online. The premium is the price of a car, not of better mathematics - though for a younger or easily distracted student the supervision is worth paying for.

What does a resit cost if the June result is disappointing?+

Entry fees are set by the board and the examination centre rather than by any tutor, and they differ between centres, so the figure has to come from your child's school or the centre you would enter through. Both boards run two series a year, so a June result can be addressed in November and a November result in the following May or June. Read the mark breakdown before deciding: a close-miss candidate who lost marks to timing and working across the paper is in a very different position from one who was a long way off across most topics.

How quickly do we have to decide on a resit?+

Fast, which is the practical trap. Entry windows for the next series can close within weeks of results in some cases, and the entry is submitted by the school to the board rather than by you. So the sequence is: read the breakdown immediately, have the conversation with the school within days, and if a resit is entered, scope the preparation block at once. For a close-miss candidate a short diagnosed block on the specific question types that cost the marks is usually better value than repeating the whole year's teaching.

Which series will an Al Manara candidate be entered for?+

The June series or the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. Plan from the live official timetable on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com rather than any restated dates, including these, because provisional timetables are revised.

We moved schools mid-course - can maths be entered through an exam centre instead?+

Often yes, and the arrangements are set by the board and the examination centre rather than by a tutor. Private candidates enter through a centre instead of a school, and what subjects and components are available depends on that centre - practical science arrangements in particular constrain what a private candidate can sit, though mathematics is usually less affected. Ask the centre directly and in writing before building any plan around it. This comes up in Dubai more than elsewhere because of mid-year school moves and changes of board.

What should a first block of eight sessions actually contain?+

Diagnosis, then yield, then measurement. Session one reads the marked paper and sorts the lost marks into technique, topic gap and fluency without teaching anything. Sessions two to six take the named problems in order of return: technique first because it shows fastest, then diagnosed topic gaps one at a time with practice set and marked, with short fluency drills running alongside. Sessions seven and eight are full papers on the correct board under time, dissected into a written error list. Then the block ends and a decision is made rather than rolling on.

Check the tier, read the script, then buy hours

If you are pricing an IGCSE maths tutor in Al Manara, the sequence matters more than the rate. Get the board, the syllabus code and the tier from the school in writing, because that decides what grade is reachable. Then send the last marked paper so the lost marks can be sorted into technique, topic gap or fluency - three problems with three different price tags. You will get a named tutor who has taught that board, an honest view of how many hours it needs and at which rate tier, and a free trial lesson that functions as the diagnosis. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we run only in India.
