IB Maths Tutor in Al Manara

An IB maths tutor in Al Manara is the most expensive hour most Dubai families buy, and the one they understand least. Dubai market rates for a named specialist run from roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and the same hour buys wildly different things depending on whether the tutor knows Analysis and Approaches from Applications and Interpretation and can name the exploration criteria. This page prices it, then shows where the money goes missing. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • AED bands attributed to the provider that published each one
  • Exploration criteria named, with where candidates lose a band
  • AA and AI treated as different courses, not as easy and hard

IB & IGCSE in Al Manara

Why the same maths hour costs AED 50 or AED 650

There is no other school subject where the price range is this wide or the difference in what you receive this large. Across the Dubai market, Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200. TutorChase publishes AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table shows named IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200-450 and above. BartyED publishes AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate, up to AED 500 independently. Every one of those figures is real and published by the provider named.

What separates them is not enthusiasm. At the bottom of the range you are buying somebody who was good at maths recently, which genuinely helps a student stuck on content. At the top you are buying somebody who has marked the course, knows what the exploration criteria reward, and can tell you in one session whether a Higher Level grade is arithmetically reachable before the May session. In the middle you are buying a trained teacher who knows the syllabus and may or may not know the assessment design, and that distinction is where most Al Manara money is lost.

The geography matters too, because Al Manara sits inland between two school clusters - the coastal Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah campuses seaward, the Al Barsha and Al Quoz cluster inland - and the nearby tutor pool is weighted towards the UK curriculum, which accounted for 37% of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25 against 7% for the IB. So an in-home maths quote to an Al Manara villa is usually a British-curriculum maths teacher pricing in a drive, not an IB specialist pricing in expertise. Both are reasonable products. They are not the same product.

The costliest decision of all is not the hourly rate; it is the course. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation are different courses, not tiers of one. Analysis is algebra, calculus and proof, with an HL Paper 3 extended investigation. Applications is modelling and statistics with a graphical display calculator assumed throughout, and HL content including matrices and graph theory. Competitive engineering, mathematics and physics programmes generally expect Analysis, often at Higher Level, and a student on the wrong route may find courses closed that nobody mentioned in Year 11.

So this page is a budget document. It prices the market with sources attached, sets the two courses side by side, maps the paper weightings at HL and SL, names the exploration criteria so you can test a tutor in thirty seconds, and lists the five specific places IB maths money is wasted in Dubai. It gives no IB Gram price list: what a block costs depends on the level, the component and the weeks remaining, and a figure typed into a landing page goes stale while a parent relies on it.

On delivery, stated plainly: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE - home visits are a service we run only in India. For an Al Manara family lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is what makes it possible to pay for IB specialism rather than for a drive along Al Wasl Road.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Manara maths enquiry needs locating in the IB continuum first, because what an hour buys changes completely between stages - and so does what it costs.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Every Diploma student takes one mathematics course, choosing between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each available at Higher and Standard Level. All four combinations include the exploration, an independent piece of mathematics typically running 12 to 20 pages, assessed against criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Higher Level candidates also sit Paper 3.

This is where almost all Al Manara maths spending goes and where the rates are highest. The usual trigger is a Year 12 report after the first proper assessment, when a student who reached a strong IGCSE grade meets Higher Level and discovers that pattern recognition no longer earns marks.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Mathematics

Standard and Extended pathways assessed against four criteria scored 0-8: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Investigating patterns is the criterion that matters most for later, because generalising and justifying a rule is precisely the skill the Diploma exploration will assess under a different name.

The cheapest point in the whole pathway to buy mathematics support, at mid-market rather than specialist rates, and the point at which Dubai families are least inclined to. Technique built here at AED 150-300 an hour is technique that does not have to be retrofitted at AED 200-450 in Year 12.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme mathematics

No external assessment and no marks, with reporting against conceptual understanding. What it builds is number sense and the habit of explaining why an answer works, which is the foundation every later criterion rests on. Fluency problems that look small here become the rearrangement failures that cost Higher Level marks.

Primary maths support in Dubai sits at the bottom of the rate card and does more per dirham than anything bought later. For an Al Manara family moving into the IB from another system, the adjustment is usually about justification rather than content level.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme mathematics

CP students take at least two Diploma courses, which may include a mathematics course, assessed exactly as a Diploma student's would be with the same papers and the same exploration. The programme is offered by a small number of UAE schools and is often confused with the Diploma when families compare post-16 costs and workload.

If a UAE federal university is in view, the Ministry of Education equivalency position should be checked directly with the authority before building a pathway, since a CP certificate is not the Diploma and no IB points threshold for equivalency appears in the sourced guidance.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IB mathematics is four courses rather than one, and the money goes to different places in each. Below, what each component assesses and where candidates lose marks.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus and proof at depth, with three papers including Paper 3, a sustained pair of investigative questions. The most expensive hour in Dubai school tuition and the one where specialism matters most: marks go on unjustified steps, missing domains and induction attempted without the inductive step written out.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

The same character of mathematics with reduced depth and two papers rather than three. Students lose marks on calculus technique and on reading questions that look familiar and are not. A common and costly error is assuming SL is HL with fewer topics; the assessment emphasis differs as well as the content.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Modelling, statistics, matrices and graph theory with a graphical display calculator assumed throughout, plus Paper 3. Frequently chosen as the easier route and frequently a surprise: the HL statistics content is demanding and the modelling questions punish answers that produce a number without interpreting it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

The modelling and statistics route at reduced depth, two papers. Marks are lost reporting a regression coefficient without interpreting it in context, choosing a statistical test the data does not support, and trusting the calculator output without checking whether it is plausible.

The mathematics exploration

All four courses

The internally assessed component, typically 12 to 20 pages, marked against presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Personal engagement and reflection are where students and generalist tutors both under-invest, because they reward something that is not mathematical skill.

Paper 3 at Higher Level

HL only, both courses

A pair of extended, structured investigations that build across many parts, where an early error propagates. It cannot be topic-spotted and it rewards mathematical stamina rather than recall. This is the single component where a specialist is hardest to substitute, in either course.

MYP Mathematics, investigating patterns

MYP Criterion B

The criterion that asks a student to find a pattern, generalise it and justify the generalisation. Most lost marks are in the justification, which students treat as optional. It is the same skill the Diploma exploration assesses, two to four years earlier and at a lower hourly rate.

IGCSE Mathematics as the foundation

Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Higher

The algebraic fluency the Diploma assumes. A student who reached a strong IGCSE grade through recall rather than understanding usually meets a wall in the first Diploma term, and the fix is foundation work nobody wants to pay specialist rates for.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606, Pearson 4PM1

Pre-Diploma preparation taken by stronger IGCSE candidates and genuinely useful for Analysis and Approaches. The jump in algebraic demand is steep, which makes it a useful early signal of whether HL Analysis is realistic for a given student.

Graphical display calculator skills

Both courses, essential for AI

Assumed rather than taught in most classrooms, and more consequential in Applications and Interpretation where the calculator is integral. Worth a session or two, not a term - which makes it one of the easier places to overspend if a tutor builds a block around it.

Statistics for the exploration

Common across subjects

Many explorations and internal assessments in other subjects rest on a statistical test, and students frequently choose one their data cannot support. Teaching the choice of test, and its assumptions, is high-value work that transfers beyond mathematics.

Proof and mathematical argument

AA HL in particular

Induction, contradiction and direct proof, where marks are awarded for the structure of the argument rather than for arriving at the result. Students lose whole questions by asserting what they were asked to show, and this is almost never addressed by content revision.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to buy IB maths support in Dubai, with very different price tags and very different returns. The one that wastes least depends on which component is failing.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed weekly hour with a teacher who has taught your child's exact course and level, on Gulf Standard Time. Screen sharing puts the marked paper, the exploration draft and the mark scheme in front of both sides, with the annotated work kept by the student. No travel inside the rate, which is the entire price gap against an in-home visit.

  • Matched to AA or AI at HL or SL, confirmed before the first lesson
  • Marked scripts and exploration drafts annotated live
  • Timed to the real arrival home from Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha
  • No travel loading in the hourly rate
  • Traffic does not cost a session in the weeks before the papers

An exploration block

A short run of sessions scoped entirely to the internally assessed exploration: the question, the mathematics, the criteria and the reflection. This is the highest-return block available in IB maths, because the mark is banked before the papers and cannot be recovered afterwards. It is also the block most often bought too late.

  • Criteria explained letter by letter with their mark allocations
  • The question stress-tested before any mathematics is done
  • Feedback as questions and comments on the student's own draft
  • Nothing written, redrafted or produced for the student

A Paper 3 block at Higher Level

Sessions aimed specifically at the extended investigative paper, which builds across many parts and punishes an early error. It needs stamina practice under timed conditions rather than topic revision, and it is the component where a non-specialist is least able to help at any price.

  • Full investigations worked under time, then dissected
  • Error propagation identified rather than only corrected
  • Structure and notation habits that hold under pressure
  • Fixed number of sessions, so the cost is known upfront

Foundation repair blocks

The least glamorous and often the best-value purchase: rebuilding the algebraic fluency the Diploma assumes, for a student whose IGCSE grade came from recall. It is mid-market rather than specialist work, which means it costs less per hour than the Higher Level teaching it makes possible.

  • Rearrangement, indices, surds and fraction work under time
  • Diagnosed from a marked paper, not from a conversation
  • Usually a defined number of weeks rather than ongoing
  • Cheaper per hour than the HL specialism it unblocks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Manara

01

The Dubai rate card for IB maths, with every source named

Three of six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all - one page's own FAQ asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer - and the two that do quote in US dollars, which UAE families do not transact in. So here is the AED market with a name attached to every figure, which is the part a parent can verify independently.

Budget online tuition: Tutopiya from roughly AED 33-52 an hour, EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online: around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. A named IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist: AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table showing 200-450+. Premium or examiner-led: AED 500-650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650. In-home one-to-one, travel included: Bestimate 180-350, independent home tutors 200-500.

Monthly, which is the more useful frame for a two-year Diploma: published packages run about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. For Higher Level mathematics in an exam year, plan on that top band if a specialist is involved.

One caution on the top of the range. Examiner-led pricing assumes examiner status, and Caution 17 of this project's research is explicit: tutors should not be described as IB or Cambridge examiners where current examiner status cannot be evidenced, and examiner status should never be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content. If somebody charges AED 650 on that basis, ask what the evidence is. Fee context worth having: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

The decision that costs more than any tutoring: AA or AI

Before any money is spent on hours, the course choice should be examined, because getting it wrong costs more than two years of tuition. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is the algebra, functions, calculus and proof route. Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route, with a graphical display calculator assumed throughout and Higher Level content that includes matrices and graph theory. They are separate courses with separate papers and separate university consequences.

The widespread belief that Applications is the easy option is the source of most of the damage. It is a different mathematics, not a lighter one, and its Higher Level statistics content defeats plenty of students who chose it to avoid calculus. Meanwhile competitive engineering, mathematics, physics and many economics programmes expect Analysis, typically at Higher Level, which means a student who took Applications to protect their grade may have closed the degree they wanted.

The reverse error is just as expensive. A student heading for design, business, some medical systems or the social sciences, who takes Analysis Higher Level to look strong, may spend two years fighting a course whose content they will never use while their other five subjects suffer. The right question is not which is harder but which is correct for the intended destination, checked against those universities' own published requirements rather than against general guidance, including this page's.

Where a tutor adds genuine value here is diagnosis rather than opinion: looking at a marked piece of algebra done under time pressure and saying whether Analysis Higher Level is a realistic proposition for this student within the hours their full Diploma allows. That is evidence. Get it in Year 11, because changing route in Year 12 is permitted at some schools and painful everywhere.

Where the marks actually sit: weightings at HL and SL

Spending decisions should follow the mark allocation, and most families have never seen it laid out. Every one of the four IB maths courses carries an internally assessed exploration alongside externally marked papers, and Higher Level candidates sit three papers where Standard Level candidates sit two. The exploration is worth roughly a fifth of the grade in each course, and it is completed and marked months before the written session.

That timing is the key financial fact about IB maths. Exploration marks are banked. A student who lands a weak exploration carries that into the session and cannot retrieve it with strong paper performance, which means the cheapest point to spend money is while the exploration is still being planned - not in the revision term, when the hourly rates are at their highest and the recoverable marks are at their lowest.

On the papers themselves, the Higher Level Paper 3 deserves separate budgeting. It is a pair of extended investigative questions that build across many parts, so an early error propagates through everything that follows, and it cannot be prepared by topic-spotting. It rewards stamina and structure, which are trained by working full investigations under time and then dissecting them. That is specialist work and it takes several sessions rather than one.

Confirm the exact weightings for your child's course and level with the school or the subject guide rather than with any summary, including this one, because the IB revises assessment structures between cycles and the school holds the current version. The table sets out the shape so you can see where the money should go.

The exploration, criterion by criterion

Ask any prospective maths tutor to name the exploration criteria and say what each is worth. It takes thirty seconds and it is the most reliable test available, because across the entire competitor corpus researched for this market not one page names a single IB assessment criterion. A teacher who has marked explorations answers immediately. One who has not will talk about quality, originality and presentation in general terms.

The criteria cover presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. The last of those is where strong mathematicians already score, and the first four are where marks are routinely left on the table - particularly personal engagement and reflection, which reward something that is not mathematical skill at all. A technically impressive exploration with no genuine engagement and no reflection on what the mathematics showed loses bands that a weaker piece of mathematics would have kept.

The single most expensive mistake is the question. An exploration built on a question that is too broad, or that has no real mathematics in it, or whose data cannot support the analysis, cannot be rescued by work later - it has to be restarted, usually at the point when there is no time to restart. That is why a short block at the question-choosing stage returns more than any amount of work on a draft that is already structurally wrong.

The boundary here is absolute and it protects your child rather than the provider. A tutor may explain each criterion, interrogate the question until the student can defend it, teach the mathematics or the statistical test required, mark practice work, and give written questions and comments on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite a paragraph to show the right register, supply data or a question, or edit to completion. In this market one provider sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; the malpractice consequence falls on the student.

Five places Al Manara families waste IB maths money

  • Paying specialist rates for foundation algebra a mid-market teacher can rebuild
  • Buying exploration support after the draft is already structurally wrong
  • Paying AED 180-500 for in-home delivery of annotated calculation work
  • Group classes that cannot address one student's course, level and criteria
  • A whole block on calculator skills that need one or two sessions

First, hiring at specialist rates for foundation work. A Year 12 student who cannot rearrange reliably needs algebraic fluency rebuilt, and that is mid-market teaching at AED 150-300 rather than specialist teaching at AED 200-450 and above. Paying the top rate for work that does not need the top skill is the most common overspend in Dubai maths tuition, and it is often the tutor who should say so.

Second, buying the exploration block too late. The mark is banked before the papers, so an exploration that is structurally wrong in March cannot be fixed by hours in April. Money spent while the question is still being chosen buys a different outcome from the same money spent on a finished draft, and the second purchase is frequently the larger one.

Third, paying a travel premium for a screen-based subject. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180-500 against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online. For maths, where the work is annotated calculation that both parties need to see, a shared screen is at least as good as a shared table - and the premium buys a drive from Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim through late-afternoon traffic, not better mathematics. Where supervision is the real need, in-home is worth paying for, and plenty of Dubai providers deliver it.

Fourth, group classes for a 1-7 subject with four courses. A tuition centre group cannot be taught to one student's course and level, and a room containing AA HL, AI SL and IGCSE students receives generic mathematics. It is cheaper per hour and often worth nothing per hour for a Diploma candidate. Fifth, a block built around graphical display calculator training: it is a genuine need, more so in Applications and Interpretation, and it is one or two sessions rather than a term.

06

The algebra nobody wants to pay for

  • The usual Diploma maths problem is IGCSE-level fluency, not Diploma content
  • It shows as a correct method abandoned or ruined by a sign error
  • Specialist teaching does not fix it; a defined foundation block does
  • The same work in Year 11 costs less and prevents the Year 12 crisis
  • A tutor who tells you this is reducing your bill, not protecting it

The most common real problem in Diploma mathematics is not the Diploma content. It is that the student arrived without the algebraic fluency the course assumes. They reached a good IGCSE grade by recognising question types and reproducing methods, which the IGCSE rewards sufficiently, and then met a course where every question requires rearrangement, substitution and manipulation under time pressure as a precondition rather than as the task.

It shows in a specific way on a marked script. The method is right. The physics or the calculus is understood. The question is abandoned two lines in, or finished with a value that is wrong because a sign flipped in the third step. That is not a Diploma content gap and no amount of Higher Level teaching fixes it - which is why a family can spend a term at specialist rates and see the same marks.

The honest prescription is unglamorous: a defined block of foundation work, diagnosed from marked papers, targeting rearrangement, indices, surds, fractions and function manipulation under time. It is mid-market teaching rather than specialist teaching, it usually takes weeks rather than terms, and it unblocks everything bought afterwards. A tutor who identifies this and says so is saving you money rather than losing a sale.

There is a prevention version of the same argument. The same work done in Year 11 - or earlier, as MYP Criterion B generalisation and justification practice - costs mid-market rates and removes the Year 12 crisis entirely. For an Al Manara family with a child in Year 10 or 11 who is coping but not comfortable, that is the single best-value maths purchase available in this market.

07

Budgeting a Diploma maths year, counted backwards

Treat two years of Diploma mathematics as a budget with phases rather than as an open monthly commitment, because the phases need different things and cost different amounts. Most UAE candidates sit the May session, and IB session dates are not published on this page: ibo.org blocks automated fetching, so no IB exam or results date in this project has been verified from the IB itself. Confirm every date with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly.

Counting backwards, the final phase before the papers is timed-paper work with marked scripts and a logged error list, plus Paper 3 stamina practice for Higher Level candidates. The phase before it belongs to the mock round, which is the last honest diagnostic the school will provide and the best evidence available for whether a Higher Level grade is reachable. Before that, the exploration is finished and away. Before that, the exploration question is chosen - and that is the cheapest high-value moment in the whole two years.

Earlier still, in the first Diploma term, is the foundation window: the point at which an algebra problem can be fixed at mid-market rates before it compounds. And before the Diploma begins at all, in Year 11, is the course decision between Analysis and Applications, which costs nothing to make well and a great deal to make badly.

Mapped that way, a sensible Al Manara budget is not a flat monthly fee for two years. It is a foundation block early, a short exploration block at question stage, weekly support through the second year where the subject genuinely needs it, and a Paper 3 and timed-paper block before the session. That shape costs less than continuous specialist hours and does more.

The permit: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted at you.

On a page that prices everything else, this is the one line item at zero. MoHRE's own service page is titled "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", it lists no fees at all, it states a two-working-day completion time, and the whole process runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Nothing in the AED 33 to AED 650 spread set out above is paying for it. Eligibility is wide enough that almost any credible Al Manara maths tutor already qualifies: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Free, two days, and open to that many categories together mean a working tutor without one has chosen not to have one, which is a fact about the tutor rather than about the paperwork.

A related rule, because it comes up constantly in Dubai: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat it as press-reported and verify against current policy, but decline the arrangement where your child's own maths teacher is paid privately.

And the claims to refuse, because the top of the maths rate card is where they appear. No individual tutor in Dubai is KHDA-approved, because that status does not exist for individuals - KHDA regulates schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises. Nobody should claim IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation or partnership. Nobody should be described as an IB examiner without evidence of current status, and examiner status must never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and operates no premises in the UAE.

Availability at Higher Level, stated honestly

  • Analysis HL and Paper 3 specialism are genuinely scarce before the May session
  • If the exact specialist is not free at your hour, you are told, with dated options
  • An adjacent specialist may be offered, with the limits of the match stated
  • Tutor location is disclosed rather than hidden behind a local-looking number
  • The trial lesson tests the match at no cost before any block is agreed

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is taught by a small number of people in any city, and Paper 3 specialism narrows the pool further. In the weeks before the May session, the right specialist may not have a slot at the hour an Al Manara family needs. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking phone number. This page would rather say it.

What that means in practice is a disclosure and a choice. Where the exact match is unavailable at your preferred time, the options are stated: a different hour with the right specialist, a short wait with an actual date, or an adjacent specialist - an Applications Higher Level teacher covering a statistics-heavy exploration, say - who can address the component you need now, with the limits named so you can judge.

Delivery being online also means the specialist may sit outside the UAE. That is stated rather than disguised, and sessions are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the Al Manara school run, which varies by whether your child travels seaward to Umm Suqeim or inland to Al Barsha. A family paying specialist rates is entitled to know exactly what they are buying and from where.

The free trial lesson is what converts all of this from a promise into a check. One lesson, no cost, with the marked paper or the exploration draft on screen, and the tutor naming the course, the level and the criteria. If the fit is wrong, nothing is owed and no block has been bought - which is the only honest way to sell the most expensive hour in Dubai school tuition.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Manara

Where an Al Manara family sits relative to the two school clusters affects both what the local pool knows and what an in-home hour costs. These are the areas that shape it.

Al Manara

Inland villa community on Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, between the coastal and Al Barsha clusters. Split catchment, which is why households receive quotes from tutors trained in different curricula.

Umm Suqeim

Five to twelve minutes seaward, school-dense and predominantly UK curriculum. Nearby and well supplied with A Level maths teachers; thinner on Diploma maths experience.

Al Barsha

Twelve to twenty-five minutes inland across Sheikh Zayed Road, where most of the area's IB World Schools sit. The direction with genuine Diploma maths capacity and the longest afternoon drive.

Al Quoz

Ten to eighteen minutes inland, home to training institutes operating under KHDA Educational Services Permits. Group maths classes here are cheaper per hour and cannot be taught to one student's course and level.

Al Safa and Al Safa 2

Eight to fifteen minutes north-east along Al Wasl Road, established schools and the least predictable afternoon journey times because of the Al Safa interchange.

Umm Al Sheif

Adjacent villa pocket with identical catchment and identical tutoring economics. The same Al Barsha-based tutors quote the same travel-loaded rates here.

Al Wasl

The corridor immediately north, feeding the same campuses with slightly shorter seaward and slightly longer inland journeys. Rate quotes are effectively the same.

Jumeirah 3

Ten to eighteen minutes seaward, villa territory supplying more UK-curriculum intake. Adds reliable minutes to the evening return and therefore to any in-home tutor's day.

Al Barsha South and Arjan

Twenty to thirty minutes inland and growing. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three IB - creating 16,846 new places, which will eventually widen the specialist pool.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Further south-west down Sheikh Zayed Road. Worth naming because a specialist living there and driving to Al Manara at 5pm is the clearest illustration of what a travel premium actually prices.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, the level and the component

"Analysis and Approaches HL, Year 12, exploration question not yet agreed" is actionable in one message and tells a specialist exactly where the money should go. "IB maths help" is three exchanges away from a plan, and the exchanges are the expensive part.

  2. 02

Send the marked paper or the exploration draft

A marked script shows whether marks are going on content, on algebraic fluency or on notation and command terms - three problems with three different prices. An exploration draft shows whether the question itself is the problem, which is the one that cannot be fixed later.

  3. 03

    Apply the criteria test yourself

You get a named tutor with the IB maths courses and levels they have taught. The check you can run without any IB knowledge is to ask them to name the exploration criteria and what each is worth. A specialist answers in seconds; a generalist talks about quality.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson at no cost with the marked work on screen. It should end with the component named, the type of problem named, and an honest number of hours - including the answer that foundation work at a lower rate is what is actually needed. Nothing is owed if the answer is no.

  5. 05

Buy the phase, not a subscription

A foundation block, a short exploration block at question stage, weekly support where the subject needs it, then a timed-paper and Paper 3 block before the session. That shape costs less than continuous specialist hours across two years and delivers more.

  6. 06

    Review against the school's marks

Progress is judged on the school's next assessed piece, the mock, and the exploration band where one is given - never on a tutor's internal tests, which no university sees. If the mark moved, the spend worked. If not, the diagnosis is revised rather than repeated.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every rate carries its publisher

Tutopiya, EdFlik, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate and BartyED each published a figure quoted on this page, and you can go and check them. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in a currency UAE families do not transact in.

The criteria get named

Not one page in the researched competitor corpus names a single IB assessment criterion. The exploration criteria - presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection, use of mathematics - are named here and are the test a parent can apply to any tutor in thirty seconds.

You are told when a cheaper tier is correct

Foundation algebra does not need a specialist rate. Calculator fluency is one or two sessions. A tutor who says so is reducing your bill, and it is the clearest signal that the diagnosis came from marked work rather than from a sales conversation.

No travel inside the rate

In-home maths tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180-500 because a drive from Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim is priced into the hour. For annotated calculation on a shared screen that premium buys logistics, not mathematics - and the same monthly spend buys roughly eight online sessions against four in-home visits.

No unverifiable dates or credentials

IB exam dates are absent because ibo.org blocks automated checking and none has been confirmed from the IB. Examiner claims are challenged rather than charged for. No regulator or board accreditation is claimed, because IB Gram holds none.

Availability and location are disclosed

Analysis HL and Paper 3 specialism are scarce before the May session, and where the right specialist has no slot at your hour you are told, with dated options. Tutor location is stated rather than hidden, and the free trial tests the match before any hours are bought.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Manara: your questions answered

What does an IB maths tutor cost per hour around Al Manara?+

Market figures with their publishers, not ours. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, named IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits are quoted AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently. IB Gram's own figure comes from the consultation after the free trial, because it depends on level, component and weeks remaining.

Why is Higher Level maths the most expensive hour in Dubai school tuition?+

Because the pool of people who can teach it well is small and the components are unforgiving. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level demands algebra, calculus and proof at depth, and Higher Level candidates also sit Paper 3, a pair of extended investigations that build across many parts so that an early error propagates through everything after it. A teacher who has not marked the course can teach the mathematics correctly and still miss the technique, which is the part being bought. Scarcity plus consequence is what produces the AED 200-450 and above band.

Is Applications and Interpretation the cheaper course to tutor?+

Not reliably, and choosing it to save money is usually a false economy. Applications is a different mathematics rather than a lighter one: modelling and statistics with a graphical display calculator assumed throughout, and Higher Level content including matrices and graph theory. Its statistics load defeats plenty of students who picked it to avoid calculus. The larger cost is admissions: competitive engineering, mathematics and physics programmes generally expect Analysis, often at Higher Level, so a route chosen to protect a grade can close the degree it was protecting it for.

When is the cheapest moment to spend money on IB maths?+

Two moments, both early. First, the course decision in Year 11 between Analysis and Applications, diagnosed from marked algebra done under time pressure rather than from a report - that costs a session or two and prevents two years on the wrong course. Second, the exploration question stage, before any mathematics is done, because an exploration built on a question with no real mathematics in it cannot be rescued and has to be restarted. Spending in the revision term is the most expensive and least recoverable option of all.

Can a weak exploration be made up for in the written papers?+

No, and this is the arithmetic that should drive the budget. The exploration is internally assessed, worth roughly a fifth of the grade, and completed and marked months before the written session. Whatever band it lands in travels with the student into the exams, and strong paper performance does not retrieve the marks lost there. That is why a short block while the question is still being chosen returns more than a larger block spent on a finished draft, and why late exploration help is the most frequently wasted purchase in IB maths.

What are the exploration criteria, and why should I ask a tutor to name them?+

They cover presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Ask because it is the fastest test of real IB experience available: across the sixty-odd competitor pages researched for this market, not one names a single IB assessment criterion. A teacher who has marked explorations answers in seconds. Personal engagement and reflection are where marks are most often left on the table, because they reward something that is not mathematical skill - a technically strong piece with no genuine engagement loses bands a weaker one keeps.

My child understands the maths but keeps losing marks. What is that?+

Almost always algebraic fluency rather than Diploma content. It shows in a specific way on a marked script: the method is right, the concept is understood, and the question is abandoned two lines in or finished with a wrong value because a sign flipped in the third step. No amount of Higher Level teaching fixes it, which is why families can spend a term at specialist rates and see the same marks. The fix is a defined foundation block on rearrangement, indices, surds and function manipulation under time - mid-market work, not specialist work.

Is a maths group class at a Dubai tuition centre worth considering?+

For IGCSE topic revision, often yes, since the content is common. For the Diploma it is usually poor value, because there are four distinct maths courses and a room containing Analysis HL, Applications SL and IGCSE students can only receive generic mathematics. Nobody can teach to one student's exploration criteria in a group. It is cheaper per hour and can be worth nothing per hour for a Diploma candidate. Note also that a centre with premises operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different licence from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to an Al Manara home?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For an Al Manara family lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the marked paper, the exploration draft and the mark scheme are visible to both sides and the annotated work stays with the student. For mathematics specifically that is no compromise: the work is annotated calculation both parties need to see, and a shared screen does that at least as well as a shared table.

How much of my budget should go on Paper 3 at Higher Level?+

A dedicated block rather than a few minutes inside general revision. Paper 3 is a pair of extended, structured investigations that build across many parts, so an early error propagates and a familiar-looking topic gives no advantage. It cannot be topic-spotted and it rewards stamina and structure, which are trained by working full investigations under time and then dissecting where the chain broke. Several sessions, placed before the mock round rather than after it, and with a specialist - this is the component where a non-specialist can least substitute at any price.

Can an A Level maths teacher near Al Manara tutor the Diploma?+

For content gaps in the first Diploma year, often yes - the calculus is the same calculus. For the assessment design, be careful. Grades run 1-7, there is an internally assessed exploration in every course with criteria published by letter, Higher Level candidates sit a Paper 3 with no A Level equivalent, and command terms carry mark-scheme consequences. The local pool near Al Manara is weighted that way: the UK curriculum took 37% of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25 against 7% for the IB, and tutor supply follows enrolment.

How many sessions a week does Diploma maths realistically need?+

Usually one protected weekly hour, rising to two in a specific phase such as a Paper 3 block or the weeks after a disappointing mock. More than that competes with the other five Diploma subjects, the core, and the practice a tutor sets between lessons, which also has to fit. A student doing four hours of maths tuition a week is usually a student whose other subjects are about to slip. Buy the phase that the diagnosis points to rather than a standing weekly commitment across two years.

Should I pay extra for a tutor described as an IB examiner?+

Only with evidence, and never for what the title is implying. Premium rates in this market reach AED 650, with BartyED publishing that figure, and examiner framing is often what justifies it. Current examiner status should be evidenced before it is charged for, and it must never be presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, because it is not. Ask what the evidence is and what concretely changes in the lesson. A specialist who has taught and marked the course at your child's level is the thing you actually need.

Why does this page not list IB exam dates for planning?+

Because they could not be verified. ibo.org returns an error to automated fetching, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and publishing an unverified exam date to a parent who will plan a revision budget around it does real harm. UAE candidates sit the May session, which is a pattern rather than a date. Confirm every specific date with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. Cambridge and Pearson dates are sourced from the boards and used elsewhere on this site with their framing intact.

What if no Analysis Higher Level specialist is free at our time?+

You are told, with options rather than a quiet substitution. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is taught by a small number of people and Paper 3 specialism narrows the pool further, so before the May session the right person may not have your preferred hour. The honest alternatives are a different time with the right specialist, a short wait with an actual date, or an adjacent specialist who can cover the component you need now with the limits of the match stated. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Spend on the phase, not on the month

If you are pricing an IB maths tutor in Al Manara, the question that saves the most is not what an hour costs but which phase you are in. Send the course and level, the component, and the marked paper or exploration draft, and you will get a named tutor who has taught that course, an honest view of whether specialist or mid-market work is what you actually need, and a free trial lesson before any block is agreed. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed to the real return from Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha. If foundation algebra at a lower rate is the right answer, you will be told that instead of sold an upgrade.
