IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Manara

Hiring an IGCSE science tutor in Al Manara is three spending decisions pretending to be one. Your child is either taking three separate sciences, a Combined or Coordinated award, or a Double Award - and which of those decides whether you need one tutor or three, how many hours the week can hold, and what the whole thing costs. This page does that arithmetic in AED before it talks about teaching. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Manara

"Science" is not one purchase

The word on the enquiry is almost always "science", and it hides the most consequential fact about the cost. A Year 10 student in a Dubai school may be taking three separate sciences, each a full qualification with its own papers - Cambridge 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Or they may be taking Cambridge Combined Sciences 0653, three subjects compressed into one qualification. Or Coordinated Sciences 0654, or Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0, which is two qualifications across three subject areas. Those are not variations. They are different products with different budgets.

On the separate route you have three syllabuses, three sets of papers and three sets of topic gaps. One tutor can sometimes cover all three competently, and more often covers one well and two adequately - which is fine if your child's problem is in the one, and expensive if it is not. On the Combined or Coordinated route you have a single qualification with shallower content and identical exam-technique demands, where one tutor genuinely can hold the whole thing, and where students frequently arrive with weaker practical reasoning because fewer laboratory sessions were run.

So the first question is not what an hour costs; it is which route and which code. Ask the school in writing, because it also tells you something a tutor needs: whether the route is tiered. Cambridge Combined and Coordinated Sciences are tiered Core and Extended, and a Core entry caps all three science strands at once - a single entry decision affecting three subjects, which is the largest piece of arithmetic on this page and costs nothing to check.

With that established, here is the market, every figure attributed to whoever published it. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Named specialists are quoted AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table at 200-450+, and BartyED at AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently. Monthly packages run about AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Multiply those by three subjects and the problem becomes obvious. A family buying weekly support in biology, chemistry and physics at mid-market rates is looking at the specialist monthly band for the sciences alone, before anything else in the week is paid for. That is almost never necessary and almost always what happens by default, because each subject gets bought separately as each report arrives.

Al Manara's geography shapes the in-home end of the range. The neighbourhood sits inland on Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street between two school clusters, so a tutor driving to a villa here comes from Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim or further through afternoon traffic. IB Gram does not sell that: home visits are a service we run only in India, and for an Al Manara family lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Manara science enquiry sits on one of several routes, and the route is the budget. These are the four that matter in Dubai schools.

SeparateAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Three separate IGCSE sciences

Cambridge 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 - three full qualifications with three sets of papers. Cambridge sciences are tiered Core and Extended individually; the Pearson international sciences are single tier. This is the route for students heading towards A Level or IB Higher Level sciences.

The expensive route to support and the right one for a future scientist. The financial discipline it demands is choosing which of the three actually needs paid hours, because buying all three weekly is how an Al Manara family ends up spending more on sciences than on everything else combined.

0653Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Combined Sciences

One qualification covering biology, chemistry and physics content at reduced depth, tiered Core and Extended. The exam technique demands are identical to the separate sciences even though the content is shallower, and a Core entry caps the grade for all three strands together rather than one at a time.

Common in Dubai for students who do not intend to carry three sciences forward, and genuinely sensible for them. One tutor can hold the whole qualification, which makes it the cheapest science route to support properly - provided the tier has been checked first.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Coordinated Sciences

A double award covering the three sciences with more depth than Combined, tiered Core and Extended, and worth two qualifications. It sits between Combined and the separate sciences in both content and workload, and it keeps more post-16 doors open than Combined does.

Frequently confused with Combined by parents, and the difference matters for both cost and progression. Confirm which of 0653 and 0654 your child is entered for before buying hours, because the depth expected differs and so does what a tutor has to cover.

4SD0Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Science Double Award

Pearson's double award route across the three science areas, awarding two qualifications. Paper structures and practical assessment arrangements differ from the Cambridge equivalents, which is why a tutor's board familiarity matters as much here as anywhere else in the IGCSE system.

Used by the Pearson-entering schools in Al Manara's radius. Past-paper practice must be on the correct board: a student revising with Cambridge papers for a Pearson route is practising unfamiliar question styles and timing, which wastes the single best preparation tool available.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below, the science components Al Manara families ask about, with what each costs in attention. The honest point is that these are not equally expensive to fix.

Biology content volume

Core, Extended, single tier

The hardest science to move with one weekly hour, because the problem is usually volume rather than difficulty. Terminology is marked tightly - "the cell takes it in" earns nothing where the scheme wants active transport against a concentration gradient. Better suited to a concentrated holiday block than to a term of weekly sessions.

Chemistry moles and stoichiometry

All routes

The highest-yield single topic in IGCSE science, because it decides the chemistry grade and because the arithmetic discipline it builds pays back in physics calculations too. Marks go on significant figures, limiting reagents and percentage yield confused with atom economy.

Chemistry explanation quality

Extended and single tier especially

Answers that describe an observation where the mark scheme wants a reason. State symbols omitted. Electrolysis questions answered without reference to the species actually present. All habits rather than knowledge gaps, which makes them cheap to fix and visible on a paper total.

Physics electricity

All routes

Where most physics marks disappear across every board. The failure is usually arithmetic rather than conceptual - a correct formula, a correct substitution, then a unit left unconverted or a rearrangement slip. Circuit reasoning questions reward a systematic approach that takes two sessions to install.

Physics waves and optics

All routes

Ray diagrams marked on construction accuracy rather than on the final answer, and wave calculations where the frequency and period relationship gets inverted under time pressure. Diagram technique is fast to teach and routinely untaught.

Graph and data skills

All routes, both practical formats

Axes chosen sensibly, scales that use the grid, points plotted accurately, a line of best fit justified, a gradient taken from large intervals. These marks appear on every science paper and in both practical assessment formats, which makes this the single most transferable thing to buy.

Method evaluation

All routes, alternative-to-practical especially

Reading a described method and identifying its actual flaw, naming the controlled variables, explaining why a result is anomalous. Entirely paper-based skill, assessed heavily on written practical papers, and almost never taught explicitly in a crowded Year 10 timetable.

Required practicals and apparatus reasoning

Practical examination routes

Where a route uses a practical examination, the apparatus work belongs in the school laboratory. What can be prepared remotely is the sequence, the readings to take, the precision expected and the common procedural errors - which is most of where the marks sit.

Command-term discipline

All routes

State is not explain, describe is not compare, suggest asks for a plausible scientific reason. A fluent answer to the wrong command term is capped before its science is read, and one long answer rewritten properly teaches more than ten attempted badly.

Paper timing and allocation

All routes

Minutes allocated by marks, nothing left blank, and the longer questions attempted rather than abandoned. For a student whose content is largely there, this is the highest-return few hours in the whole subject and it costs the lowest rate tier.

Formula recall and units

Physics especially

Which formulae are given and which must be known differs by board and route, and students routinely assume wrongly. Unit conversion errors are the quiet mark-killer in physics calculations, and a session enforcing them line by line changes a paper total.

Science vocabulary for second-language students

All routes

Common in Dubai classrooms and frequently misread as a science gap. A student who understands the process and cannot produce the precise term loses the same marks as one who does not understand it, and the fix is targeted vocabulary work rather than content re-teaching.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to buy science support, with very different totals once three subjects are involved.

One tutor across the whole science qualification

The right shape for Combined, Coordinated or Double Award routes, where the content is one qualification and the technique demands are shared. One weekly hour covering graph skills, method evaluation, command terms and whichever strand is weakest, with the work sequenced rather than split three ways.

  • Matched to the route and code, confirmed before the first lesson
  • Shared technique taught once rather than three times
  • Timed to the real arrival home from Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha
  • One rate rather than three, which is most of the saving
  • Strand focus shifts as the school's marking moves

One science at a time, in defined blocks

The right shape on the separate-sciences route. Rather than three weekly commitments, a block of six to ten sessions on the subject the marked papers point at, then a decision, then the next if needed. Costs a third of what three parallel weekly hours cost and usually achieves more.

  • Diagnosed from marked papers across all three sciences
  • A fixed number of sessions, so the total is known at the start
  • Practice set between sessions and marked at the next
  • Ends with a decision rather than rolling on by default

A shared-skills block

The best-value purchase for a student losing marks across all three sciences, because the losses are usually the same losses. Graph construction, data interpretation, method evaluation, command terms and unit discipline appear in every science paper, so teaching them once improves three sets of marks.

  • Graph and data technique that transfers to all three sciences
  • Method evaluation for written practical papers
  • Command terms taught against real mark schemes
  • Unit conversion and formula discipline enforced line by line

A holiday block for content volume

Where the problem is biology volume or a year of gaps in two strands, a concentrated block in a Dubai school break covers ground a single term-time hour cannot. Also the right shape when the Al Manara weekday clock genuinely does not contain a usable slot.

  • Concentrated hours without competing with homework
  • Suits volume problems rather than technique problems
  • Works while travelling, since sessions follow the time zone
  • A natural point to reassess before the next term

01

One tutor or three? The arithmetic

This is the question that determines the bill, and it has a genuine answer rather than a sales answer. On the Combined, Coordinated or Double Award routes, one tutor can cover the whole qualification. The content is shallower in each strand, the papers are shared or closely related, and the most valuable work - graph skills, method evaluation, command terms, unit discipline - is common across all three. Buying three tutors for a single qualification is paying three times for one job.

On the separate-sciences route the honest answer is more nuanced. A science teacher's subject specialism is real: a chemist is a chemist, and the mechanism-level reasoning in chemistry or the mathematical confidence in physics is not interchangeable. But at IGCSE level the depth required is well inside what a trained science teacher covers, and most can teach two of the three to a high standard and the third competently. The practical question is which of your child's three sciences has the problem.

That question is answered by marked papers, not by reports. Across three sciences a student's lost marks are frequently the same marks in all three - graph construction, a described method whose flaw they cannot spot, command terms misread, units unconverted. If that is the pattern, one tutor addressing shared technique improves three sets of marks and costs a third of three weekly commitments. If instead the losses are genuinely subject-specific - stoichiometry in chemistry, electricity in physics, terminology volume in biology - then they should be bought as separate blocks in order of return, not as three parallel subscriptions.

The default pattern, and the expensive one, is subject-by-subject purchasing as each report arrives: physics help in October, chemistry help in January, biology help in March, all running concurrently by spring. The table below sets out the comparison so the decision can be made deliberately before the first report rather than reactively after the third.

02

The tier that caps three subjects at once

Cambridge Combined Sciences 0653 and Coordinated Sciences 0654 are tiered Core and Extended, and here the tier does something unusually consequential: a Core entry caps the grade for all three science strands simultaneously. One entry decision, three subjects' worth of ceiling. Very few pages in this market mention tiering at all, and none that were researched mention this particular effect.

The implication for a budget is direct. A family spending months of fees to lift a Core science candidate into the top band is spending on an outcome the entry has excluded across all three strands. The reverse error exists too: a student entered for Extended who is not yet fluent faces questions pitched above their current level in three subject areas at once, and loses marks across a whole paper in a way that content teaching does not recover.

On the separate-sciences route, Cambridge tiers each science individually, which means a student can be Core in one and Extended in another - a flexibility worth knowing about, because it allows a sensible asymmetric entry for a student strong in physics and struggling in biology. Pearson's international sciences are single tier, so the question does not arise in the same form, and the full grade range is available to every candidate.

The action is the same in all cases and it is free: ask the school, in writing, which route, which codes and which tier. Then ask what the mocks predict on each tier and what would have to change by the entry deadline. A specialist reading a marked mock can separate marks lost to fixable technique from marks lost to the paper being pitched above the student's fluency, which is the whole of the decision and takes one session.

What preparation is worth paying for, by practical format

  • Establish whether the route uses a practical examination or a written alternative paper
  • Written alternative papers reward method evaluation, tables, graphs and anomaly reasoning
  • Apparatus rehearsal belongs in the school laboratory, not in a paid online session
  • The thinking behind a practical - sequence, precision, procedural errors - prepares well remotely
  • Private-candidate practical arrangements are set by the board and the centre, not by a tutor

Science routes handle practical assessment differently, and this is where money gets spent on the wrong thing more often than anywhere else in the subject. Some routes use a practical examination. Some use a written alternative-to-practical paper assessing the same skills entirely on paper - identifying variables, evaluating a described method, constructing a results table with correct headings and units, plotting and interpreting a graph, explaining an anomaly. The content being tested overlaps. The preparation that helps does not.

If your child sits a written alternative paper, the useful work is paper-based and transfers perfectly to a shared screen: reading a method and finding its actual flaw, building a table before data arrives, plotting and taking a gradient from large intervals, explaining why a point is anomalous rather than reciting "human error". That is a fast-moving, teachable skill set, and a term of apparatus rehearsal in a kitchen does nothing for it. Paying for the latter is a waste that happens routinely.

If your child sits a practical examination, the apparatus work belongs in the school laboratory and no tutor can substitute for it over video - anybody claiming otherwise is overselling. What can genuinely be prepared remotely is the thinking: the sequence of the procedure, which readings to take and to what precision, the common procedural errors, and how to record and process the results. That is most of where the marks sit even in a practical examination.

The first step, then, is to find out which format applies, from the school rather than from a tutor's assumption. It is one question and it redirects the entire preparation plan. For families considering private-candidate entry after a mid-year move, practical arrangements are set by the board and the examination centre and they constrain which science components a private candidate can sit at all - ask the centre directly and in writing before building a plan around it.

The Dubai rate card, read per qualification

Here is the market with the name attached to every figure, then the multiplication nobody does. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named specialists run AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table showing 200-450+ and BartyED publishing AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted AED 180-350 by Bestimate, up to AED 500 independently.

Now the multiplication. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Those figures are per subject. A family running three weekly science hours at the mid-range tier is therefore in the AED 1,800-3,600 monthly region for sciences alone, before mathematics, English or anything else. Almost nobody intends that; plenty of households arrive there one report at a time.

The alternatives are cheaper and usually better. One tutor across a Combined or Coordinated qualification is a single rate. One shared-skills block addressing graph work, method evaluation and command terms improves three sets of marks for the price of one subject. Defined blocks on the diagnosed science, taken in sequence rather than in parallel, cost a fraction of three subscriptions and end with a decision rather than drifting.

The in-home premium applies on top of all of it and compounds with the number of subjects. Published packages run about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits - half the contact days for roughly twice the outlay, per subject. For science, where the marks sit in graphs, tables and annotated method evaluation on a shared screen, the premium buys a drive from Al Barsha rather than better teaching. Where supervision is the real need it is worth paying for; IB Gram does not sell it, because home visits are a service we run only in India.

Five places science money disappears in Dubai

  • Three parallel weekly hours when the lost marks are the same marks in all three sciences
  • Apparatus rehearsal bought for a route that uses a written alternative paper
  • Weekly biology hours when the problem is content volume, not technique
  • Group classes that cannot address one student's route, code and tier
  • The in-home premium paid three times over for screen-friendly work

First, three parallel weekly subscriptions when the losses are shared. This is the big one and it bears restating: if a student is losing graph marks, method-evaluation marks and command-term marks in all three sciences, those are one problem presenting three times, and one tutor fixes it once at one rate.

Second, paying for apparatus rehearsal when the route uses a written alternative paper. It is a specific, common and entirely avoidable waste, and the check is one question to the school about which practical format applies. Families buy it in good faith, usually after a teacher mentions that practical skills are assessed, without establishing that on their child's route those skills are assessed on paper rather than at a bench. Several weeks of equipment-based sessions can be bought before anybody notices that the examination does not involve equipment at all.

Third, buying biology weekly when the problem is volume. Biology's difficulty is the sheer quantity of precise terminology, and a single weekly hour cannot deliver content at the rate needed - it can only teach technique and vocabulary strategy. For volume problems a concentrated holiday block does more per dirham, and a tutor who says so is reducing the bill.

Fourth, group classes for a tiered, multi-route subject. A centre class containing Core and Extended candidates on Combined and separate routes across two boards can only deliver generic science. It is cheaper per hour and often worth less per hour, though it can work for common content revision before mocks. Fifth, the in-home premium multiplied by three subjects: AED 180-500 against AED 150-300, per science, where the difference is a car in Al Wasl Road traffic rather than better teaching.

06

Which science to fund, given where your child is going

  • Fund the science the child intends to continue post-16, because that one gets bought twice otherwise
  • Chemistry's calculation discipline pays back in physics as well as in chemistry
  • Physics is the right pick where the loss is mathematical rather than conceptual
  • Biology needs a block rather than a weekly hour, because volume is the problem
  • MoE British-track equivalency counts five IGCSE subjects, excluding Arabic and Islamic education

When the budget only stretches to one science, the destination should decide which. A student heading for A Level or IB Higher Level sciences needs the subject they intend to continue secured, because the step up assumes fluency rather than familiarity - and in Dubai, post-16 specialist tuition is quoted at AED 200-450 and above, so fluency built at IGCSE rates is fluency not bought twice.

Chemistry is usually the highest-leverage choice on that basis. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science and many biological and engineering programmes specify chemistry, frequently at an advanced level, and chemistry's calculation discipline pays back in physics as well. A student who can handle moles reliably is a student whose physics arithmetic also improves, which makes it the one subject whose hours visibly benefit another.

Physics is the right choice where the loss is mathematical rather than conceptual, because the fix transfers directly to mathematics and to chemistry calculations. Biology is the right choice where it is the intended post-16 subject, and the honest caveat is that it needs more hours or a concentrated block rather than a weekly trickle, because volume does not respond to an hour a week.

Two cautions for UAE destinations. Ministry of Education equivalency is a regulatory process run by the Ministry and the emirate attestation authority, not something a tutoring provider performs or guarantees, and tutoring is not required for it. The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at no less than E or two AS Levels at the same grade. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject figure, which does not match the sourced requirement - and option choices get made on numbers like that.

07

Counting backwards to the series

UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate in Dubai, which matters because a wrong exam window handed to a parent destroys a real revision plan.

One Cambridge detail affects science planning directly, since science candidates often sit the largest number of papers. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the exams officer which zone your centre is in, in writing.

For Pearson, International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official timetable rather than from restated dates, including these.

Counted backwards for sciences specifically, the phases are: route, codes and tier confirmed first; practical format established; steady work or a diagnosed block through Years 10 and 11; the mock round read from the marked scripts rather than the percentages; then timed papers on the correct board in the final weeks. The table adds the ownership column, because knowing who sets a deadline is most of meeting it.

Checking the tutor costs nothing

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit - free, two years, two working days
  • No fine amounts are published; treat any figure quoted at you as unverified
  • Decline paying your child's own science teacher for private lessons
  • No individual tutor holds KHDA, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation
  • Official syllabus material should be linked, never supplied as a download

Before you fund a first hour of biology, chemistry or physics, two checks cost you nothing but a message. Start with the licence, because a science tutor who arrives at an Al Manara villa with a box of practice papers is carrying out regulated work. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and the permit in question is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. No fine schedule is published anywhere, which matters to you in one practical way: if a tutor or an agency quotes a dirham figure for the penalty, they have invented it, and the invention tells you how the rest of their claims were assembled.

Eligibility is the part worth knowing before you judge an answer, because the science tutors offered around Al Manara come from every category on MoHRE's list: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. A current school science teacher qualifies. So does the engineering undergraduate who tutors physics in the evenings. The route is identical for all of them, and it is MoHRE's own service page titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, which lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Two working days and no fee is the entire barrier, so a tutor teaching three sciences a week without a permit has chosen not to have one.

The second check is the arrangement itself. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat it as press-reported and verify against the current policy document, but decline the arrangement where your child's own science teacher is paid privately.

And the claims to refuse. No individual tutor in Dubai is KHDA-approved, because that status does not exist for individuals - KHDA regulates schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises in the emirate. Nobody holds Cambridge or Pearson accreditation as a private tutor. No provider should supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those should be referenced and linked. And where a science route includes an assessed component, a tutor may teach, explain the criteria, mark practice work and comment on a draft the student wrote - never write, complete or edit a submission.

A first block that earns its fee

  • Session one diagnoses across all three sciences at once, from marked papers
  • Shared technique next, because it moves three sets of marks for one rate
  • Then one subject-specific gap at a time, with practice set and marked
  • Finish with a full paper on the correct board and a written error list
  • End the block with a decision, not a rollover

Eight sessions with a shape, for an Al Manara student losing science marks. Session one is diagnosis across all three sciences at once, which is the part most families skip: the marked papers from biology, chemistry and physics are read together, and the lost marks are sorted into shared technique, subject-specific content, and tier or fluency problems. That comparison is what reveals whether you need one tutor or three, and it cannot be done from reports.

Sessions two to four take the shared technique, because it is the highest return available: graph construction with sensible axes and a justified line of best fit, reading a described method and naming its flaw, building a results table before data arrives, command terms against real mark schemes, and unit discipline enforced line by line. Those marks appear in every science paper, so three sets of marks move at once.

Sessions five to seven take whichever subject-specific gap the diagnosis named - stoichiometry in chemistry, electricity in physics, terminology precision in biology - one at a time, with practice set between sessions and marked at the next. Session eight is a full paper on the correct board under time, dissected into a written error list the student keeps and rereads before the real thing.

Then a decision gets made rather than a subscription continuing. Some students need a second block on another science. Some need the holiday block for biology volume. Some turn out to be in a tier conversation with the school rather than a tutoring one, and should be told so plainly. The free trial lesson means the diagnostic session costs nothing, and no block is agreed until after it.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Manara

Al Manara's two-cluster position decides both which boards appear locally and what an in-home science quote costs. These are the areas involved.

Al Manara

Inland villa community on Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, between two school clusters, with a split catchment and villa-street parking for any visiting tutor.

Umm Suqeim

Five to twelve minutes seaward, school-dense and predominantly UK curriculum. The nearest and largest local supply of IGCSE science teaching, and the shortest in-home drive.

Al Barsha

Twelve to twenty-five minutes inland across Sheikh Zayed Road, the densest cluster in the radius. In-home quotes originating here sit at the upper end of the band because of the drive.

Al Safa and Al Safa 2

Eight to fifteen minutes north-east along Al Wasl Road, with the Al Safa interchange making afternoon journey times the least predictable of the three directions.

Al Quoz

Ten to eighteen minutes inland, where several training institutes sit. Science group classes there are cheaper per hour and cannot be taught to one student's route, code and tier.

Umm Al Sheif

Adjacent villa pocket with the same catchment and the same quotes from the same teachers. Every figure on this page applies unchanged.

Al Wasl

The corridor immediately north, feeding the same campuses. Marginally shorter seaward and longer inland drives, which rarely changes a quote.

Jumeirah 3

Ten to eighteen minutes seaward, villa territory with more UK-curriculum intake. Ten extra minutes of drive is roughly what separates the middle and upper in-home bands.

Al Barsha South and Arjan

Twenty to thirty minutes inland and growing. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three IB - creating 16,846 new places.

Business Bay

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes north-east along Sheikh Zayed Road, where many Al Manara parents work. The parental commute decides who is home to supervise an early session.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the route, codes and tier in writing

Ask the school which science route your child is on - separate sciences, Combined 0653, Coordinated 0654 or Pearson Double Award - plus the codes and the tier. That single answer determines whether one tutor or three is appropriate, and whether the grade you are aiming at is even available.

  2. 02

    Ask which practical format applies

A practical examination and a written alternative paper need completely different preparation, and paying for the wrong one is a routine waste. One question to the school redirects the whole plan, and it costs nothing.

  3. 03

Send marked papers from all three sciences

Not one subject's script - all of them, if you have them. Comparing the lost marks across three sciences is what shows whether this is one shared technique problem presenting three times or three genuinely separate gaps, and that distinction is the biggest number in the budget.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson as the diagnosis

One lesson at no cost with the marked papers on screen, ending with the losses sorted into shared technique, subject-specific content, and tier or fluency problems - plus an honest view of how many tutors and how many hours are actually needed.

  5. 05

Buy the shape the diagnosis points to

A shared-skills block, a single diagnosed subject block, or one tutor across a Combined qualification. Three parallel weekly subscriptions are the default and almost never the right answer, and a provider who says so is reducing the bill rather than protecting it.

  6. 06

Review against the school's next marks

Judged on the next assessed papers from the school, across the same sciences. If the shared-technique marks moved in all three, the block worked. If not, the diagnosis gets revised rather than repeated at greater length.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Costed per qualification, not per subject

A Combined or Coordinated route is one qualification and should cost one rate, not three. On the separate route, blocks in sequence cost a fraction of three parallel weekly hours. That arithmetic is the single largest saving available in Dubai science tutoring and almost nobody does it deliberately.

The tier that caps three strands gets checked

Cambridge Combined and Coordinated Sciences are tiered, and a Core entry caps the grade across all three science strands at once. No researched competitor page mentions it, and it can invalidate a year of spending aimed at a grade the entry excluded.

The practical format is established first

A written alternative-to-practical paper and a practical examination need different preparation, and buying apparatus rehearsal for the first is a routine waste. One question to the school settles it, and it is asked before any hours are proposed.

Shared technique taught once

Graph construction, method evaluation, command terms and unit discipline appear in every science paper. Teaching them once improves biology, chemistry and physics marks together, which is why the first block addresses them rather than a single subject's content.

Rates come with their publisher

Tutopiya, EdFlik, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate and BartyED each published a figure quoted here, and you can check each one. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all, and two quote in a currency UAE families do not transact in.

No travel multiplied by three

In-home science tuition is quoted at AED 180-500 in Dubai because a drive into Al Manara from Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim is priced into the hour - and across three sciences that premium compounds. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Manara: your questions answered

Can one tutor cover biology, chemistry and physics for an Al Manara student?+

On a Combined, Coordinated or Double Award route, yes - it is one qualification with shared technique demands, and buying three tutors for it is paying three times for one job. On the separate-sciences route it depends on where the marks are going. If the losses are the same in all three - graph construction, method evaluation, command terms, units - one tutor fixes one problem and three sets of marks move. If they are genuinely subject-specific, buy defined blocks in sequence rather than three parallel weekly hours, which costs a fraction and usually achieves more.

How do I find out which science route my child is actually on?+

Ask the school in writing, and ask for the codes. Cambridge Combined Sciences is 0653 and Coordinated Sciences is 0654; separate sciences are 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics. Pearson runs 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 separately and 4SD0 as the Science Double Award. Do not infer the route from the textbook on the shelf, because schools change provision and a student who joined mid-course may have covered material from two. While you are asking, request the tier and the practical assessment format too.

Why does a Core science entry matter more than a Core maths entry?+

Because it caps three subjects at once. Cambridge Combined Sciences 0653 and Coordinated Sciences 0654 are tiered Core and Extended, and a Core entry ceilings the grade across all three science strands simultaneously - one entry decision with three subjects' worth of consequence. No researched competitor page in this market mentions this. On the separate-sciences route Cambridge tiers each science individually, which usefully allows an asymmetric entry: Extended in physics, Core in biology, for a student whose strengths differ that way.

What does three weekly science hours actually cost in Dubai?+

More than most families intend. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work - and those figures are per subject. Three mid-range weekly science hours therefore lands around AED 1,800-3,600 a month for sciences alone, before mathematics or English. Households rarely decide on that; they arrive there one report at a time, buying physics in October, chemistry in January and biology in March.

Is it worth paying for practical rehearsal if lessons are online?+

It depends entirely on the assessment format, and this is the most routine waste in science tutoring. If your child's route uses a written alternative-to-practical paper, the marks come from evaluating a described method, naming controlled variables, building tables, plotting graphs and explaining anomalies - all paper-based and all better on a shared screen than across a table. If the route uses a practical examination, apparatus technique belongs in the school laboratory and no tutor can substitute for it, though the sequence, precision and common procedural errors prepare well remotely.

Which science should we fund if the budget only covers one?+

Usually the one your child intends to continue post-16, because that subject gets bought twice otherwise - post-16 specialist tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 200-450 and above. Beyond that, chemistry is often the highest-leverage choice: it is specified by medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science and many biological and engineering programmes, and its calculation discipline visibly improves physics arithmetic too. Physics is the right pick where the loss is mathematical rather than conceptual. Biology needs a concentrated block rather than a weekly hour, because the problem is volume.

Why is biology the hardest science to fix with one hour a week?+

Because the difficulty is volume rather than conceptual depth, and an hour a week cannot deliver content at the rate required. The syllabus marks terminology tightly - "the cell takes it in" earns nothing where the scheme wants active transport against a concentration gradient - so the gap is a large quantity of precise vocabulary and mechanism detail. What a weekly hour can do is teach vocabulary strategy, data-question technique and command-term discipline. For the volume itself, a concentrated block in a Dubai school break does far more per dirham.

Does IB Gram send a science tutor to a villa in Al Manara?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For an Al Manara family lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the marked paper, the graph being plotted and the method being evaluated are visible to both sides, and the annotated work stays with the student. For science that is well suited rather than compromised, and across three subjects it also avoids paying the in-home premium three times over.

Why is in-home science tuition quoted higher here than online?+

Because an hour of teaching takes about two and a half hours to deliver. Al Manara sits inland on Al Wasl Road between two school clusters, so a tutor drives in from Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim or further through afternoon traffic, parks on a villa street, and reverses the journey. Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors up to AED 500, against AED 150-300 online. The premium is the price of a car. It buys supervision, which genuinely helps some students, and not better science teaching.

Are science group classes at a Dubai centre good value?+

For common content revision before mocks, sometimes. For diagnosed work, rarely, because a centre class can contain Core and Extended candidates on Combined and separate routes across two different boards, which means only generic science can be delivered. Nobody in that room can address one student's route, code, tier or practical format. It is cheaper per hour and often worth less per hour. A centre with premises in Dubai also operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different licence from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit.

What should we send so a first science session is not wasted?+

The route and codes from the school, the tier, the practical assessment format, and the most recent marked papers from all three sciences rather than just the weakest one. That last point matters more than it sounds: comparing lost marks across three subjects is what reveals whether this is one shared technique problem appearing three times or three separate gaps - and that distinction is the biggest number in the whole budget. It takes ten minutes to gather and saves a session of discovery.

Does a Combined Sciences student need less exam technique than a separate-sciences student?+

No, and this catches families out. Combined and Coordinated Sciences cover shallower content but the exam technique demands are identical: the same graph construction, the same method evaluation, the same command terms, the same unit discipline. Students on these routes often arrive with weaker practical reasoning as well, because fewer laboratory sessions were run across the compressed course. So the technique work that transfers across all three strands is arguably better value here than on the separate route, since one qualification benefits entirely.

Which exam series will a Dubai science candidate sit?+

The June series or the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. Science candidates often sit the most papers of anyone, so confirm which of Cambridge's six administrative zones your centre is in, because Cambridge warns that using the wrong zone timetable is the candidate's risk.

How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE Ministry actually count for equivalency?+

Five, for the British track. The published guidance requires passing five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject figure, which does not match the sourced requirement - and option choices get made on numbers like that. Verify on moe.gov.ae; no tutoring provider performs equivalency.

What does a well-spent first block of eight science sessions contain?+

Diagnosis across all three sciences first, from marked papers rather than reports, sorting the losses into shared technique, subject-specific content, and tier or fluency problems. Then three sessions on shared technique - graph construction, method evaluation, command terms, unit discipline - because those marks appear in every science paper and three sets move at once. Then two or three on the diagnosed subject gap, one at a time with practice set and marked. Then a full paper on the correct board under time, dissected into a written error list, and a decision rather than a rollover.

Settle the route before you buy the hours

If you are pricing an IGCSE science tutor in Al Manara, the sequence saves more than the rate does. Ask the school for the route, the codes, the tier and the practical assessment format, because those four answers decide whether you need one tutor or three and whether the grade you are aiming at is available at all. Then send marked papers from all three sciences so the losses can be compared. You will get a named tutor who has taught that board and route, an honest view of how many tutors and hours it actually needs, and a free trial lesson that functions as the diagnosis. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we run only in India.
