IB Home Tutor in Al Manara

Parents in Al Manara who search for an IB home tutor are usually asking a cost question first: what is the going rate, and what does the money actually buy. This page answers that with published AED figures, a travel-premium breakdown and a two-year Diploma budget. Lessons from IB Gram are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so you pay for teaching minutes rather than for a drive down Al Thanya Street.

  • Market rates quoted in AED, each with the publisher and the date attached
  • A free trial lesson before any payment, with no card details required
  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled around Gulf Standard Time evenings
  • Every AED figure here is a market rate, never presented as our quote

IB & IGCSE in Al Manara

What an hour of IB tutoring is really worth in Al Manara

Al Manara sits between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Thanya Street, a low-rise villa district with no school inside its own boundary. That single fact sets the price of tutoring here. Every family on this grid drives out of it twice a day, and anyone hired to teach in your sitting room drives in. The drive is billable time in every quote you will receive, whether or not the invoice itemises it. Once the travel component is separated from the teaching component, the cost question in this neighbourhood becomes much easier to answer honestly.

The numbers themselves are not secret, they are simply scattered. EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour. Tutopiya quotes from AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase lists AED 270. BartyED charges AED 650 for a named examiner. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350, with specialist exam-year tutors running AED 200 to 450 and above. Five providers, five pricing logics, and almost no page in this search result that sets them side by side.

The spread is not random. It tracks three things: how specialised the teacher is, how much of the hour is spent travelling, and whether you are buying a single session or a block. A university student revising algebra costs a fraction of a Diploma Chemistry teacher who has marked the paper. An in-home arrangement adds thirty to fifty minutes of driving around a sixty-minute lesson, and somebody pays for that time. A monthly package smooths the headline rate but commits you before you know whether the match works for your child.

What this page does not contain is an IB Gram price list. Our rate depends on the subject, the level and the number of sessions, and it is quoted after a free trial lesson rather than before one. Publishing a single headline figure would repeat the trick the AED 45 advertisements play: a real number attached to a tutor your child will never actually be given. Every figure below belongs to the open market and carries the name of whoever published it, so you can check it yourself.

The last point before the tables start is the one that matters most. The money is usually not lost at the hourly rate. It is lost in the number of hours bought, the weeks they were bought in, and the gap between what the tutor knows and what the paper asks. A family paying AED 180 an hour for forty sessions of general maths has spent more, and gained less, than one paying AED 300 for twelve sessions aimed squarely at Paper 3. That arithmetic is the spine of this page.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Manara children sit across the whole IB continuum, because the schools either side of the district run different parts of it. The notes below are about cost and hours rather than curriculum theory: how much tutoring each programme typically absorbs, and at which point in the two years the spending actually concentrates.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme is transdisciplinary and reported against learner-profile strands rather than subject grades. Tutoring at this stage is almost always about English reading fluency or number sense, booked in thirty or forty-minute blocks because attention, not content, is the limiting factor. Market rates for primary support sit at the bottom of the band, and the honest advice for most Al Manara parents is fewer sessions than an agency will try to sell you.

Raffles International School in Umm Suqeim and Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeira both run PYP within a short drive of Al Manara. A Dubai primary day ends between 2pm and 3pm, so a session can start at 3.30pm without eating into dinner. At that hour a tutor driving in from Al Barsha is sitting in Umm Al Sheif traffic, which is precisely what an in-home travel premium pays for.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Middle Years grades run 1 to 8 against four published criteria per subject. Most of the money Al Manara families spend in MYP4 and MYP5 goes on maths and the sciences, where the jump into Diploma standards is steepest. The useful spend here is diagnostic: one or two sessions to find which criterion is pulling the grade down, then a short block aimed at that strand rather than at the subject as a whole.

Jumeirah Baccalaureate School in Al Safa and Raffles World Academy in Umm Suqeim both carry Middle Years cohorts that Al Manara addresses feed. Parents often buy middle-school tutoring at Diploma intensity and Diploma prices, which is the most common overspend at this stage. Two sessions a month, reviewed each term against the criterion grades, usually achieves more than a weekly standing slot nobody ever cancels.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is where the spend concentrates and where it is most often misdirected. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and an Internal Assessment in nearly every course. Paper weightings differ by subject, so an hour of general revision is worth less than an hour on the component carrying 35 per cent of the grade. Costed properly, a Diploma year is a sequence of short targeted blocks rather than a twenty-four-month subscription.

GEMS Wellington International School in Al Sufouh and Dubai American Academy in Al Barsha both run the Diploma, and both sit the May session. The expensive months for an Al Manara family are the Internal Assessment deadline run late in DP1 and the final eight weeks before the May papers. Spreading the same budget evenly across two years spends it at the wrong time, which is a quieter waste than overpaying per hour.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. It is far rarer in Dubai than the Diploma, and tutoring demand follows that scarcity. Where a family does need support, the cost question is almost always about the Diploma subjects inside the programme rather than the career-related component, which the school supervises directly and which no outside tutor should be shaping.

Very few schools near Al Manara offer this programme, so a family needing help here is already looking outside the neighbourhood and well outside any sensible in-home radius. That is the clearest case in this district for live video delivery: the pool of people who have actually taught a reflective project is small, and it is not distributed by postcode or by driving distance.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subject notes below are written from a cost angle: what each one typically absorbs in hours, and which component those hours should go to. Hourly rates do not vary much by subject in this market, but efficiency does. A Physics hour aimed at Paper 3 data analysis buys more than four hours of general Physics review.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 3 is Higher Level only and carries 20 per cent of the grade across two extended problem-solving questions. It is also where Dubai candidates lose the most marks, because school teaching frequently runs out of term before Paper 3 technique has been practised under time. Hours aimed here are the best-value maths hours in the Diploma.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

This route rewards modelling, statistics and graphical calculator fluency. Standard Level candidates often arrive assuming it is the easy option and discover the Paper 2 technology work is unforgiving about method marks. Three sessions on calculator discipline usually shift a grade further than ten sessions on algebraic manipulation.

Physics

HL and SL

The practical scheme of work and the Paper 3 data questions are where marks disappear. Uncertainty arithmetic and gradient work from a drawn graph are cheap to fix and expensive to leave alone. Mechanics is usually sound by DP2; fields, circuits and the option topic usually are not.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics carry most of the lost marks at Higher Level. The Internal Assessment is 20 per cent of the grade and is the clearest legitimate use of paid hours, because feedback on a student's own draft is permitted under IB rules and raises the mark without crossing any line.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms decide Biology grades more than content recall does. Outline, explain and evaluate demand different answer lengths, and a student who writes an essay where outline was asked loses the minutes needed for the long-answer section. Two sessions on command terms is the cheapest useful intervention in this subject.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries built on published news articles form the Internal Assessment. Diagram accuracy and the depth of evaluation decide the marks. Higher Level adds Paper 3 quantitative work, which is formulaic and therefore the fastest part of the whole course to improve with a short block of hours.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis, the Individual Oral is internally assessed, and Higher Level adds the HL Essay. Students here rarely need more content. They need a repeatable way into an unfamiliar text under timed conditions, which takes practice rather than reading lists.

Business Management

HL and SL

The Higher Level extension and the research project carry the difference between grades. Markbands reward applying a tool to a specific context rather than reciting its definition, so sessions built around one case study are worth considerably more than sessions built around a glossary.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Paper 2 covers the Higher Level option and the solution-development work inside the Internal Assessment absorbs most of the time. Pseudocode fluency is a cheap, high-return target: it appears in both papers and it is purely a practice problem rather than a comprehension one.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, graded A to E

Theory of Knowledge is graded against a published rubric and affects the bonus points alongside the Extended Essay. A tutor may question an argument and point at a rubric strand. A tutor may not supply the exhibition or the essay. Hours spent here are coaching hours, and they should be billed and understood as such.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are on sale in this part of Dubai and they do not cost the same per useful minute. The notes below give the market price, what it includes and who each one actually suits. IB Gram sells the first of them and is open about not selling the others.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor, delivered over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing for past papers. This is what IB Gram provides to Al Manara families. The whole sixty minutes is teaching time, so the cost per useful minute is the lowest of the three formats even when the headline rate is not the lowest.

  • No travel cost built into the rate, because nobody travels
  • Tutor chosen for the subject and level, not for proximity to Al Thanya Street
  • Sessions recorded as written notes the student keeps for revision
  • Rescheduling is a message, not a cancelled journey

A reviewed monthly block rather than an open subscription

Market monthly packages seen in Dubai include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. A block makes budgeting predictable, but it should carry a review point. Buying twenty-four months of weekly sessions in September for May papers is how families spend heavily and finish where they started.

  • Agree the review point before the first session, not after the third month
  • Tie the review to mock results rather than to a feeling about progress
  • Expect the block to shrink in quiet terms and grow before the papers

A short pre-exam intensive

Six to ten sessions in the eight weeks before the papers, aimed at one component rather than a syllabus. Bestimate's monthly estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for weekly hours, so an intensive is a real sum of money. It is still usually cheaper than a two-year drip and it lands when the student can use it.

  • Pick the component by weighting, starting with whatever carries the most marks
  • Work from timed past papers, not from notes
  • Stop when the mark stops moving, rather than when the block runs out

Shared sibling or small-group sessions

Group rates in Dubai are quoted per student and sit below one-to-one, which is why they look attractive on a budget spreadsheet. They work when two students are genuinely at the same point in the same syllabus and badly when they are not. Two siblings a year apart in the Diploma are almost never at the same point.

  • Only worth it at identical level, identical board and a similar current grade
  • Ask how the tutor splits attention when the two diverge mid-term
  • Compare the per-student rate against half the one-to-one hour, not against the whole

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Manara

01

What an IB home tutor in Al Manara costs, tier by tier

  • A rate quoted without a named subject and level is not yet a quote
  • Ask whether the hour is sixty minutes of teaching or includes setup and travel
  • Ask whether the figure is per hour or per session, and whether VAT is inside it
  • Ask who published any market average you are shown, and when

An IB home tutor in Al Manara is quoted somewhere between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and the range is that wide because five different products are being sold under one phrase. At the bottom sit online platforms using university students: EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. In the middle sit qualified subject tutors working online, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. At the top sit named examiners, where BartyED quotes AED 650.

In-home delivery occupies its own band, because the quote has to absorb the journey. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. The same teacher, selling the same hour, prices it differently depending on whether a car is involved. That gap is the single most useful number in this whole search result, and almost nobody publishes it next to the online figure for comparison.

Read the table below as a market survey rather than a menu. Each band carries the name of a provider who published it, with the month it was read. IB Gram's own rate is not in the table, because it depends on the subject, the level and the number of sessions, and because quoting a single figure before a trial lesson tells you nothing useful. What the table does let you do is recognise an outlier when one lands in your inbox.

The travel premium, counted in minutes and dirhams

  • Ask how far the tutor is travelling and what the journey adds to the rate
  • Ask what happens to a session when the drive goes wrong
  • Compare the specialist you can reach online with the generalist who can reach your road
  • Multiply the per-hour gap by the number of sessions you expect to buy

A sixty-minute in-home lesson in Al Manara is never sixty minutes of a tutor's afternoon. It is the lesson plus the drive in, plus the drive out, plus the margin they leave for Sheikh Zayed Road being Sheikh Zayed Road. A tutor living in Al Barsha and teaching one Al Manara student at 5pm has committed closer to two hours. The quote reflects that, as it should, and the honest question for a parent is what the extra dirhams are buying.

Set against the rate gap, the arithmetic is not subtle. If a qualified subject tutor is AED 200 an hour online and AED 300 an hour in person, the AED 100 difference is paying for the journey. Over a forty-session Diploma year that is AED 4,000 spent on driving. Nobody would write a cheque with that memo line, but it is what the invoice says once you separate the two components out.

There is a second cost that never appears on an invoice. The pool of tutors willing to drive to Al Manara at 5pm on a Tuesday is much smaller than the pool who can teach the subject. Hiring by driving radius means hiring from that smaller pool, and in narrow Higher Level subjects it can mean hiring nobody suitable at all. Al Manara families who insist on a local visit are, in practice, choosing availability over specialism without being told that is the trade. Over video that trade disappears, because the shortlist is drawn from whoever teaches the subject best rather than from whoever can reach Umm Suqeim Road before the traffic does.

03

Four ways Al Manara families waste tutoring money

  • Buy a diagnosis before you buy a block of sessions
  • Match the intensity to the year, not to the worry
  • Put a review date on every arrangement and keep it
  • Fund two subjects properly rather than six subjects lightly
  • Decide in advance what evidence would make you stop

The first waste is buying a tutor instead of buying a diagnosis. A parent sees a 4 in Chemistry and books a weekly hour for a year. Nobody has established whether the 4 came from the Internal Assessment, from organic mechanisms, from timing on Paper 2 or from reading the command terms wrongly. Each of those has a different fix and three of the four are short. Two sessions spent working out which one it is pays for themselves several times over.

The second is paying Diploma prices for Middle Years problems. Families around Al Manara often start intensive weekly tutoring in MYP4, two years before any external paper exists. The grades are criterion-based and the gaps at that stage are usually habits rather than knowledge. Spending AED 250 an hour weekly for two years before the Diploma even starts leaves nothing in the budget for the eight weeks when it would genuinely matter.

The third is the standing slot nobody reviews. A weekly session booked in September is still running in March, charged in full, attended out of habit. The fourth is subject spread: funding all six Diploma subjects at once, lightly, rather than two properly. Grades move when a specific component improves. Six shallow hours a month move nothing and cost more than two deep ones. None of these four is about the hourly rate, which is why comparing rates alone is a poor way to control what you spend.

04

A two-year Diploma, costed end to end

Parents rarely get to see tutoring set against the other numbers in a Dubai school year, which makes a rate feel either outrageous or trivial depending on the day. Context helps. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are therefore a known quantity this year, which makes the variable spending easier to plan around.

The table below costs a two-year Diploma the way a family would actually buy it: light in DP1, heavier around the Internal Assessment deadlines, heaviest in the final eight weeks. The monthly figures come from Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions, which put budget support at AED 240 to 600 a month, mid-range at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. The pattern matters more than the totals.

What the table should make obvious is how much of a two-year budget disappears into the quiet terms if the arrangement is a subscription rather than a plan. A family spending AED 900 a month every month for twenty-four months has committed AED 21,600, much of it in terms where no assessment was pending. The same money concentrated into the Internal Assessment run and the pre-exam block buys roughly three times the sessions at the moments they change a grade. Written down two years ahead, that difference is the single largest controllable number in a Diploma budget, and it is decided by the calendar rather than by the hourly rate.

Online, in-home and group tutoring compared for this district

Tutopiya is the only competitor in this search result with a format comparison table at all, and its version is three generic rows with no local detail. The version below is specific to an Al Manara address, because that is where the differences actually show up. The same three formats behave differently in a villa district with no school inside it than they do in a tower community with a school at the base.

The honest reading of the table is that in-home wins on exactly one axis: a young child who will not sit still in front of a screen. For a Diploma student working through Paper 3 questions, screen sharing a past paper and annotating it together is not a compromise on the in-person version. It is the format the work is already in, since the student's own notes, the official syllabus documents and every past paper live on a screen anyway.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, and this table is the argument for why rather than an apology for it. Home visiting is a service the platform runs in India, where the economics and the tutor distribution are different. In Dubai the choice is between a specialist you can reach instantly over video and a generalist who happens to live within twenty minutes of Al Thanya Street, and for a Higher Level subject that is not a close contest.

What an AED 45 hour actually contains

  • Ask what the tutor has actually taught, not what they can teach
  • Ask them to name the weighting of the component your child is losing marks on
  • Ask for one specific thing they would change in the first session
  • Treat a refusal to answer any of the three as the answer

The cheapest advertised rates in this market are real, and understanding what sits behind them is more useful than dismissing them. EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. At that price the teacher is usually a university student or a recent graduate, often teaching several subjects, almost always working from the textbook rather than from the assessment. That is a legitimate product. It is homework supervision, and homework supervision has a place.

What it is not is component-level teaching. Nobody at AED 45 an hour has the Chemistry Higher Level markbands in their head, knows that Paper 3 carries 20 per cent in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, or can tell you which criterion a Middle Years science investigation lost its marks against. Those things take years to learn and the people who know them charge accordingly. The error is not buying the cheap hour. The error is buying forty of them and expecting a Higher Level grade to move.

The useful way to think about it is cost per useful minute rather than cost per hour. An AED 45 hour where thirty minutes go on re-explaining what the textbook already said costs AED 1.50 per useful minute. An AED 250 hour spent entirely on timed Paper 3 technique with a teacher who has marked it costs AED 4.17 per useful minute, but the minutes are aimed at 20 per cent of the grade. For a DP2 student eight weeks out, the second is plainly the better purchase. For a Year 7 student who will not open a book, the first may well be.

07

What you are paying a tutor to do with an IA, EE or TOK essay, and what they must refuse

This is the part of the budget where families are most exposed, because the internally assessed components carry real weight and the market contains people who will simply write them. One agency in this search result sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Buying that is not an expensive shortcut, it is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the student rather than on the seller. No amount of money makes that a sensible purchase.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial, and it is worth paying for. They may help a student narrow a research question until it is actually answerable. They may question whether the data supports the conclusion. They may point at a criterion and ask the student to find where in their own draft that criterion is addressed. They may teach the difference between description and analysis, which is where most Internal Assessment marks are lost. All of that raises marks and none of it crosses any line.

What they must refuse is equally clear. They may not draft a section, rewrite a paragraph into their own prose, choose the topic for the student, or supply the Theory of Knowledge exhibition objects. IB Gram tutors work on the student's own writing and the student's own data, and say so when asked. Priced per hour, process coaching on the Internal Assessment is usually the best-value spending in the whole two years, because the component is worth 20 per cent in most sciences and the student keeps the skill.

Budgeting backwards from the exam series

Almost no competitor page in this search result names an exam series at all, which is strange, because the calendar decides when tutoring money is worth spending. The sequence runs the other way from how families plan it: results day sits at the end, but the decisions that control the grade sit nine to eighteen months earlier, in entry deadlines and internal coursework dates nobody circles on a kitchen calendar.

For the boards involved, the published positions are clear. Cambridge International runs its IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, and every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, with Cambridge stating that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May or June and in November; the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session, and the specific dates should be confirmed with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org rather than taken from any tutoring page, including this one.

Read the table as a spending schedule rather than a revision plan. The two rows that cost the most if missed are the entry deadline, where a tier chosen wrongly commits a whole year, and the mock window, which is the only honest diagnostic a parent gets before the real thing. Everything else on the list is downstream of those two. Always open the live official timetable on the board's own site, because provisional timetables are published ahead of each series and dates get revised.

The permit, the regulator and the cost of getting this wrong

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and a parent in Al Manara paying AED 300 an hour has a straightforward right to ask about it. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone offering private tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no figure is quoted here.

The eligibility list is wider than most parents expect. It includes teachers working in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The permit is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit, Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, a tutor who has not obtained one has no economic excuse for the omission.

Two further points matter for spending decisions. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also restricts serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, so hiring your child's own teacher privately is not the easy win it looks like. Separately, a tuition operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different instrument from an individual's permit and should never be implied by either party. IB Gram holds no regulator permit of either kind and does not describe itself as having one.

Equivalency, attestation and why neither changes your tutoring budget

Families in Al Manara planning on a UAE university sooner or later meet the Ministry of Education equivalency process, and the market around it contains a quantity of confident misinformation. One page currently ranking tells UAE parents their child must take six IGCSE subjects. The sourced rule is five. Getting this wrong by one subject is an expensive planning error, and it is exactly the kind of thing a tutoring page should get right rather than guess at.

For the British track, students must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects. For the American track, English proficiency is satisfied by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math. For the IB, no points threshold appears in the source consulted, so none is stated here: verify it on moe.gov.ae.

The budget implication is smaller than families fear. Equivalency is a documentation process, not an examination, and no tutoring is required for it. IB Gram does not perform, expedite or guarantee equivalency or attestation, and no tutoring page should present itself as a route through a regulatory process. What tutoring can usefully do is make sure the five subjects your child is relying on are actually the five likely to clear the grade bar, which is a conversation to have in Year 10, not in Year 13.

Nearby areas we cover around Al Manara

Al Manara borders several districts with different school access and different travel costs. Each note below says what moving next door does to a tutoring budget, because a ten-minute difference in driving distance shows up on an in-home invoice and nowhere else on the page.

Al Manara

The district itself: villas, no school inside its borders, and two exits, Al Thanya Street towards the coast and Sheikh Zayed Road inland. Every arrangement here starts with a drive, which is why the format question matters more in Al Manara than in most of Dubai.

Umm Suqeim

Immediately coastward. Raffles World Academy and Kings' School Dubai sit here, so these families often have a five-minute school run and the shortest in-home travel premium anywhere in the cluster.

Umm Al Sheif

Between Al Manara and the coast road, with Horizon International School inside it. Afternoon congestion on Al Thanya Street is the binding constraint on a 4pm start here, not the distance in kilometres.

Al Safa 2

Across Sheikh Zayed Road towards Jumeirah, feeding Jumeirah Baccalaureate School. A tutor crossing the interchange at 5pm adds fifteen to twenty minutes each way around a sixty-minute lesson, and that is what the premium buys.

Al Barsha 1 and 2

Inland, and where most of the school capacity actually is: Kings' School Al Barsha, Dubai American Academy and Al Mawakeb School. It is also where many Dubai-based tutors live, which is why in-home quotes reaching Al Manara are cheaper from this direction.

Al Sufouh

GEMS Wellington International School and the university strip. Close in kilometres, slow in practice, because the tram crossings and the Media City junctions decide the journey rather than the map does.

Al Quoz 3

Mixed industrial and residential. Cheap tutoring supply, long travel, and the clearest illustration on this list of how a low hourly rate and a high cost per useful minute happily coexist.

Jumeirah 3

Coastal, older villas, with Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeira within reach. Session timing here is set by beach-road traffic rather than by school dismissal, which pushes realistic start times later.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Manara

Coastward from Al Manara

Short drives, early dismissals and the lowest travel premium in the district. Families here get quoted less for in-home work than anyone else in this postcode, which makes the format comparison a genuinely close call rather than an obvious one.

  • Raffles International School, Umm Suqeim
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Horizon International School, Umm Al Sheif
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeira

Inland across Sheikh Zayed Road

Where most of the IB and British capacity around Al Manara sits, and where most Dubai tutors live. Journeys are longer in distance but often shorter in time than the coastal run, because the interchange is the bottleneck, not the kilometres.

  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Barsha
  • Dubai National School, Al Barsha

Across the interchange towards Jumeirah

The slowest direction at 5pm and therefore the most expensive one to buy in person. Diploma cohorts here are small enough that a specialist in a narrow Higher Level subject is rarely available locally at any price.

  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Safa Community School, Al Safa
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa

School names on this page are included as local context for families choosing a tutor. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

Start with the specific thing that is going wrong: a Paper 3 mark, an Internal Assessment criterion, a mock grade that dropped. A subject name alone leads to a generalist and a long arrangement. A named component leads to a specialist and a shorter one, which is cheaper and usually works better.

  2. 02

Take the free trial lesson before any payment

The trial lesson costs nothing and needs no card details. Use it as a diagnostic rather than a demonstration: ask the tutor what they would change first and why. If the answer is generic, the match is wrong, and finding that out before you have paid for a block is the whole point of the trial.

  3. 03

Agree the number of sessions and the review point

Decide together how many sessions the specific problem should take and what evidence would show it is fixed. Write the review date down. An arrangement with no end condition drifts into a subscription, and a subscription is how a reasonable hourly rate turns into an unreasonable annual total.

  4. 04

Schedule around the real Al Manara afternoon

Dubai school days end between 2pm and 3.30pm depending on the school, and the drive home from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh eats the next hour. Pick a slot that survives a bad traffic day, usually 5pm or later, and keep it consistent so the session becomes a habit rather than a negotiation.

  5. 05

Concentrate the spending where the calendar says it counts

Light support in the settling terms, heavier through the Internal Assessment deadlines, heaviest in the final eight weeks before the papers. The same budget spent in that shape buys roughly three times the sessions at the points where a grade actually moves. Spread evenly, most of it lands in terms where nothing was due.

  6. 06

Review against the mock paper, then stop or continue

The mock is the only independent evidence a parent gets before the real series. Read the paper itself rather than the grade, and decide from that whether to extend, redirect or end the arrangement. Stopping when a problem is fixed is a legitimate outcome, and the best tutors say so first.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every rate on this page is attributed

Each AED figure names the provider who published it and the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. A number you can check is worth more than an adjective you cannot.

The travel premium is shown, not hidden

Most pages selling in-home tutoring in Dubai never separate the teaching hour from the journey. This one puts the round trip from six origins into a table with the effect on the quote. You may still decide the premium is worth paying, but you will be deciding it with the number in front of you.

You are told what we do not sell

IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons over live video to UAE families. Home visiting is a service the platform runs in India, not here, and this page says so plainly rather than leaving the URL to imply otherwise. Knowing what is not on offer is part of knowing what is.

Specialism beats proximity on Higher Level subjects

Hiring by driving radius means hiring from the much smaller pool who will come to Al Manara at 5pm. Over video the constraint disappears, which is why a family here can work with a Chemistry Higher Level specialist instead of whoever lives nearest Al Thanya Street and is free on a Tuesday.

The academic-honesty line is drawn in writing

Tutors review and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not draft Internal Assessments, Extended Essays or Theory of Knowledge essays, and they say so when asked. One agency in this market sells completed Internal Assessments; that is a malpractice risk carried entirely by the student.

A free trial lesson, with the condition stated

The trial is one lesson, before any payment, with no card details taken and no obligation afterwards. The condition is on this screen rather than buried in terms, because a free offer with an unstated string attached is not really free and is not worth the goodwill it borrows.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Manara: your questions answered

How much does an IB home tutor in Al Manara actually cost?+

Market quotes for Al Manara fall into bands rather than onto a single figure. Online tutoring from budget platforms starts at AED 33 to 65 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at AED 150 to 300, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 including travel, per Bestimate's 2026 rate table. IB Gram quotes its own rate after a free trial lesson, because it depends on the subject, the level and the number of sessions.

Why is in-home tutoring quoted higher in Al Manara than in Al Barsha?+

Because there is no school inside Al Manara's boundary and most Dubai tutors live inland. A tutor coming from Al Barsha commits roughly 1.7 hours of their afternoon to deliver a sixty-minute lesson here, once the round trip at 5pm is counted; from Al Sufouh or Dubai Marina it is closer to two hours. That time has to be paid for by somebody, and it appears as a higher hourly rate rather than as a separate travel line. Families in Umm Suqeim, five minutes away, are quoted noticeably less for the same teaching hour.

Is an AED 45 online tutor a realistic option for Diploma subjects?+

It is a real product, but it is a different product. At that rate the tutor is usually a university student or recent graduate working from the textbook, which is useful for homework supervision and content review. It is not component-level teaching: nobody at AED 45 an hour has Chemistry Higher Level markbands in their head or can tell you which criterion a Middle Years investigation lost marks against. For a Year 7 student who needs structure, the cheap hour is sensible. For a DP2 student eight weeks from the papers, forty cheap hours cost more and achieve less than twelve specialist ones.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to an Al Manara villa?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visiting is a service the platform runs only in India, where tutor distribution and economics are different. UAE lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing for past papers and a shared whiteboard. The practical gain is specialism: instead of choosing from tutors willing to drive to Al Thanya Street at 5pm, an Al Manara family can work with whoever actually teaches the component their child is losing marks on.

How many tutoring hours does a DP2 student from this area usually need?+

There is no single answer, but the shape is more predictable than the total. Most families who spend well buy two to four diagnostic sessions after the mocks, then a block of six to ten sessions on one or two components in the eight weeks before the papers. That is roughly twelve to fourteen hours per subject being supported, concentrated rather than spread. The families who spend badly buy one hour a week for twenty-four months, which is around ninety hours, much of it in terms when nothing was due and nothing was measured.

Should I buy a monthly package or pay for sessions one at a time?+

Monthly packages in Dubai are commonly advertised at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. A block makes budgeting predictable and sometimes lowers the effective rate, which is a genuine benefit. The risk is that it commits you before you know whether the match works. A reasonable compromise is a free trial lesson first, then a short block with a written review point tied to mock results rather than to how many months have passed.

Do tutoring rates in Dubai rise as the May session gets closer?+

Rates themselves move less than availability does. What changes in the final term is scarcity: the tutors who genuinely know a Higher Level component are booked, so the choice narrows to whoever is still free, and premium providers like BartyED, quoting AED 650 an hour, look more reasonable simply because fewer alternatives remain. The practical consequence is to secure a specialist early rather than to budget for a price rise. Families who leave it until eight weeks out usually pay a scarcity premium in quality rather than in dirhams.

Does a tutoring quote in Dubai include VAT, and should I ask?+

Ask, and ask in writing. UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees depends on the provider's status and is not something a tutoring page should state as settled fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation, so this page does not. What you can reasonably require is clarity about the specific quote in front of you: whether the figure is inclusive or exclusive, whether it is per hour or per session, and whether a tax registration number appears on the invoice. A provider unwilling to answer those three questions has told you something useful.

Can one tutor cover two of my child's six Diploma subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is often cheaper, but it should be the consequence of a match rather than the reason for it. Mathematics and Physics pair reasonably well because the Higher Level content overlaps. Chemistry and Biology look adjacent and are not, at Higher Level. The real test is whether the tutor can name the paper weightings and the Internal Assessment criteria for both subjects without hesitating. If they cannot, you are buying one specialism and one generalist hour at the specialist rate.

What does Internal Assessment support cost, and what should it include?+

Internal Assessment coaching is quoted at the same hourly rates as subject tutoring, so AED 150 to 300 online at the qualified tier, higher for a named specialist. The component is worth 20 per cent of the grade in most sciences and in mathematics, which makes those hours among the best-value in the two years. What you should be buying is process coaching: narrowing the research question, testing whether the data supports the conclusion, and mapping the student's own draft against each criterion. What you must not buy is anybody writing or editing the work itself.

Can a tutor write or finish my child's Extended Essay?+

No, and any provider offering to is selling your child a serious risk. One agency in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; submitting purchased work is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate. What a tutor may legitimately do is coach the research question, teach citation properly, read a draft the student has written and question its argument, and explain what the criteria actually reward. That work raises marks. IB Gram tutors operate on the student's own writing and say so plainly when asked.

Does my child's tutor need a UAE permit, and does it cost us anything?+

They need a private tutor work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the MoHRE app, website or e-services system under Issuance of a New Work Permit, Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time. It costs you nothing and costs the tutor nothing, so there is no excuse for not holding one. Tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted here.

What happens if we stop after the free trial lesson?+

Nothing happens. The trial is one lesson, taken before any payment, with no card details collected and no obligation to continue afterwards. That condition is stated here rather than in terms elsewhere, because a free offer with an unstated string attached is not genuinely free. If the match is wrong, say so and ask for a different tutor or walk away. Using the trial as a diagnostic rather than a demonstration is the single cheapest way to avoid a bad arrangement, and it is why it exists.

My child has eight weeks until the papers. Is tutoring still worth the money?+

Eight weeks is enough for technique and not enough for content, so the spending has to be aimed accordingly. Pick the one or two components carrying the most marks, work exclusively from timed past papers, and ignore the rest of the syllabus. Bestimate's estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 a month and above for weekly hours, so a focused block is real money. It is usually better value at this point than the same sum spread across two quiet terms, because the student can use the work immediately.

Do two children in the same Al Manara household get a lower rate?+

Shared sessions are quoted below one-to-one on a per-student basis, which makes them attractive on a budget. They only work when both students are genuinely at the same point in the same syllabus with the same board, and two siblings a year apart in the Diploma almost never are. Ask the tutor directly how they split attention when the two diverge mid-term, and compare the per-student group rate against half of a one-to-one hour rather than against the whole hour. Often sequential individual sessions turn out to be better value.

How does the KHDA school fee freeze change what I should budget for tutoring?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For planning, that means the largest line in a Dubai education budget is a known quantity this year, which makes the variable tutoring line easier to size and easier to concentrate where it matters. It does not mean tutoring is cheaper. It means the money you were holding against a fee rise can be directed at the eight weeks when a grade actually moves.

Start with the component, then decide what it is worth

The useful first conversation about an IB home tutor in Al Manara is not about price. It is about which component is losing marks, what evidence says so, and how many sessions that specific problem should take. Once those three things are written down, a rate becomes something you can judge rather than something you have to guess at. Take the free trial lesson, ask the tutor what they would change first, and ask them to name the weighting of the component in question. Then set a review date. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, so the whole hour goes on teaching rather than on Al Thanya Street.
