IB Tutor near me in The Springs

The question behind a search for an IB tutor near me in The Springs is rarely about distance. It is whether anybody within reach genuinely knows this syllabus, as opposed to knowing the subject. This page answers that honestly: how small the local specialist pool actually is, the eight questions that establish whether a tutor knows the Diploma, which subjects are thin and what happens when they are, and why lessons for families in The Springs are delivered one-to-one over live video.

  • Matched by subject and level, not by how close the tutor lives
  • Eight checkable questions you can ask any IB tutor before paying
  • Coverage and fallback published, including the subjects that are thin
  • A free first lesson with the matched tutor before you commit

IB & IGCSE in The Springs

The real question is competence, not proximity

Nobody searching for a tutor near them actually wants a neighbour. They want somebody who will not waste the hour. The phrase near me is shorthand for a reasonable assumption: that a person physically close by can be checked, recommended by another parent, and relied on to turn up. It is a sensible instinct built up over years of finding piano teachers and swimming coaches, and it works badly for the IB Diploma for one reason. The Diploma is a small, specialised qualification, and the number of people who genuinely know a given subject at a given level inside any one Dubai community is very small.

Run the arithmetic. International Baccalaureate programmes account for roughly 7 per cent of private enrolment in Dubai, against 37 per cent on UK curricula. Within that minority, a Diploma student takes six subjects at two different levels, so the specialism you need is not an IB tutor but, say, a Higher Level Economics tutor who has marked internal assessments. Now restrict that to people who can be at a townhouse in Springs 7 by five o'clock on a weekday. The honest description of what remains is a handful of people, and whether any of them teaches your child's subject is largely luck.

That is the uncomfortable answer to the search, and it is better heard now than in week four. What families in The Springs usually discover, if they look locally and insist on proximity, is one of three outcomes: a tutor who knows the subject but not the Diploma, a tutor who knows the Diploma but not the subject at the level required, or a long wait. Each of those costs money and, more importantly, weeks.

The alternative is to drop the geographic constraint and keep every other one. IB Gram matches your child to a tutor chosen for the subject, the level and the assessment component in question, and the lesson happens one-to-one over live video on a Gulf Standard Time slot. IB Gram does not operate a UAE office and does not send tutors to UAE addresses; home visits are a service offered only in India. That is stated here rather than discovered later, because the comparison only works if it is honest.

The rest of this page is practical. It sets out the eight questions that distinguish somebody who knows the Diploma from somebody who has heard of it, what the Diploma actually contains so that you can judge the answers, which subjects are genuinely thin in this market and what happens when yours is one of them, what The Springs itself does to an evening timetable, what both delivery models cost with the sources named, and where the line sits on Internal Assessment and Extended Essay help.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Springs sits between a British-curriculum secondary and several IB continuum schools, so IB requests from these addresses span the whole programme. These are the four stages, with what they need from a tutor.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects drawn from the subject groups, studied at Higher or Standard Level, alongside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. Each subject carries internal assessment with a fixed weighting, and external examinations at the end of DP2. The load is less about individual difficulty than about simultaneous deadlines, which is what most families actually need help managing.

Several IB World Schools sit within a short drive of The Springs, in Emirates Hills, The Meadows and along Al Sufouh. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new International Baccalaureate schools among seven new openings, so the local Diploma provision is expanding rather than static.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against published criteria in bands rather than by examination, with a Personal Project in MYP 5. For a family in The Springs the commonest MYP request is a bridge: a child moving from the British-curriculum route into an IB continuum school, or vice versa, who needs the assessment language of the new system explained.

Because the British secondary inside Springs 3 and the IB continuum schools in Emirates Hills and The Meadows are minutes apart, switching sector mid-school happens here more often than in most Dubai catchments. That makes assessment translation, rather than content teaching, the first job in a lot of first lessons.

COREAges 16-19 · Across DP1 and DP2

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

The core components that run alongside the six subjects and generate most of the DP1 panic. The Extended Essay is an independent piece of research with a word limit; Theory of Knowledge is assessed through an exhibition and an essay; creativity, activity, service is not graded but must be completed. Deadlines for all three collide with subject internal assessments.

Each school sets its own internal deadlines for these components, often months ahead of the IB's own. Those internal dates are the ones that govern your child's year, so ask the Diploma coordinator for the school's published timeline rather than working from anything found online, including this page.

BRIDGEAges 15-16 · Into DP1

IGCSE or MYP into DP1

The transition request that arrives every July from this cluster. A student from Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE brings strong examination technique and little experience of independent research. A student from MYP brings the reverse. A good bridge block teaches whichever of the two is missing, and it is far cheaper in August than in February of DP1.

UK-curriculum schools account for 37 per cent of Dubai private enrolment, so most students entering a Dubai DP1 classroom arrive from IGCSE rather than from MYP. The predictable consequence is a cohort strong on timed papers and underprepared for the Extended Essay, which is exactly where DP1 support concentrates.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the Diploma subjects most often requested from The Springs and the surrounding communities, with what each one demands of a tutor beyond knowing the material.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested Diploma subject in this catchment. HL is a serious course and the Internal Assessment exploration trips up students who can do the mathematics but cannot frame a question worth exploring. A tutor needs to be fluent in both the content and the exploration criteria.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Chosen by students heading away from engineering, and frequently misunderstood as the easier option. The modelling and statistical work is genuinely demanding, and the exploration has to use real data convincingly rather than decoratively.

Physics

HL and SL

Two written papers and a scientific investigation. The specialism a tutor needs is narrow: command of the current theme structure and of the data-analysis questions that come from the practical programme rather than the textbook.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organised around structure and reactivity, with quantitative work and mechanisms as the two reliable mark-losers. A tutor who cannot discuss command terms and what each one requires is teaching chemistry rather than teaching the assessment.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy and marked on precision of expression. Students who revise by reading lose marks that students who write and get marked do not. The investigation requires a measurable variable, which is where many biology investigations fail before they start.

Economics

HL and SL

A popular choice in this catchment and one where internal assessment technique dominates the grade conversation. Commentaries have to apply theory to a recent article within a tight word limit, which is a skill entirely separate from understanding economics.

Business Management

HL and SL

Frequently taken alongside economics and frequently confused with it. The internal assessment differs substantially between levels, and a tutor who has not read the current guide will prepare a student for the wrong task.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Assessed partly through oral components, which students rarely practise properly. A tutor's most valuable contribution is often rehearsing an individual oral under timing rather than discussing the texts further.

Psychology

HL and SL

Rewarding and demanding on study recall, where students need named research with enough detail to use as evidence rather than as decoration. The internal assessment is a replication study with its own strict conventions.

Arabic and Language B subjects

HL, SL and ab initio

Thin specialisms in the private tutoring market, particularly at ab initio level. These are the subjects where a local search most often returns nothing usable, and where honest disclosure about availability matters most.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core

Assessed through an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. Students who treat it as an opinion piece score poorly; the marks are in the handling of knowledge claims and counterclaims with real examples.

Extended Essay

DP core, any subject

An independent research piece with a word limit and a supervisor at school. Outside support is legitimate only as process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafting; the research and the writing must be theirs.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working cover almost every Diploma request from these communities, and the choice between them is about which deadline is nearest.

Weekly subject teaching through DP1 and DP2

One session a week in the subject that is weakest, following the school's own order of topics so that the lesson repairs what was rushed rather than running ahead of it. Across two years this is the pattern that changes a grade, because each topic gets a second pass with marked written work in between.

  • A held Gulf Standard Time slot kept through the term
  • Sequenced to the school's scheme of work rather than to a generic plan
  • Written work set weekly and marked against published criteria
  • Internal assessment deadlines mapped into the plan from the first session

Internal assessment and core component feedback

Short blocks aimed at one component: a subject internal assessment, the Extended Essay or the Theory of Knowledge essay. The tutor explains what the criteria reward, challenges the question while it can still change, and responds to the student's own draft. The writing stays the student's throughout.

  • Research questions tested for scope before any drafting begins
  • Criteria explained in the student's own subject, not in general terms
  • Feedback given on the student's draft; the tutor contributes no text
  • School internal deadlines treated as the real deadlines, because they are

Multi-subject triage in DP2

For a student with three subjects in trouble and a fixed examination date, the plan is deliberately narrow. Measure where the marks are going, pick the two subjects with the most recoverable marks, and spend the last fortnight on timing and paper technique across all of them.

  • A marked paper per subject before any teaching begins
  • Two subjects targeted, chosen by recoverable marks rather than by anxiety
  • Shared technique taught once: command terms, timing, structuring long answers
  • An honest statement of what the remaining weeks will and will not reach

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Springs

01

Is there anyone near me who actually knows the IB? The honest answer

  • Diploma students are a minority of a minority once subject and level are specified
  • A local search usually returns a subject graduate, not a Diploma specialist
  • The three local outcomes are wrong experience, wrong level, or a long wait
  • Dropping the drive is the only requirement worth dropping

No, probably not, if near me means inside The Springs and the subject is anything other than mathematics or English. That is the answer and it is worth sitting with for a moment, because every page competing for this search avoids it. The reason is structural rather than a failure of the local market. The Diploma is a minority qualification in Dubai, taken by roughly 7 per cent of private school students against 37 per cent on UK curricula, and each of those students studies six subjects split across two levels.

So the thing being searched for is not an IB tutor. It is a Higher Level Economics tutor who has seen internal assessment commentaries marked, or a Standard Level Biology tutor fluent in the investigation criteria, or somebody who can supervise a History Extended Essay. Each of those is a narrow specialism. Restrict it further to people who can physically reach a townhouse in Springs 9 on a weekday evening and the pool is not small, it is close to empty for most subjects.

What a family actually finds, searching locally and insisting on proximity, falls into three patterns. The first is a subject graduate who has never taught the Diploma and does not know what the internal assessment is marked on; they will teach good economics and will not improve the grade much. The second is somebody familiar with the IB in general terms who is working two levels away from the one required. The third is a genuine specialist who is already fully booked, which leads to a wait the calendar cannot absorb.

The alternative is to keep every requirement except the geographic one. The subject, the level, the component, the hour and the language can all be held constant; only the drive is dropped. That is what online delivery buys, and it is the entire argument. IB Gram matches on subject and level and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. There is no UAE office, and no tutor is sent to a UAE address: home visits are an India-only service, which is also why this page can compare the two models without selling one of them.

02

Eight questions that reveal whether a tutor knows the Diploma

Since you cannot verify a tutor by meeting them at the school gate, verify them by asking. These eight questions take ten minutes, work equally well on an agency or an individual, and separate genuine Diploma knowledge from general subject competence with unusual reliability. A good answer is specific and offered without hesitation. A bad answer is general, or it changes the subject to experience and enthusiasm.

The questions are deliberately about assessment rather than content, because content knowledge is the easy part. A subject graduate knows the economics. What they may not know is how many commentaries the internal assessment requires, what the word limit is, how the criteria are weighted, what the school's internal deadline looks like, and what a tutor is permitted to do with a draft. Those five facts determine whether an hour of tutoring is useful or merely pleasant.

Two of the questions are about honesty rather than knowledge, and they are the most informative of the eight. Asking what a tutor will not do with an Internal Assessment should produce a clear, confident boundary, not an offer. Asking about the MoHRE private tuition work permit should produce a straightforward answer, because the permit is granted free of charge for two years and a working tutor should know their own position. Hesitation on either is the signal to walk away.

One further note on how to use the list. Ask all eight in a single conversation rather than spreading them across a week, because the value is in the pattern of the answers rather than in any one of them. A tutor who is strong on four and vague on the other four is usually strong on the subject and weak on the Diploma, which is the commonest profile in this market and the hardest for a parent to detect any other way.

03

What the Diploma actually contains, so you can judge the answers

To use the questions above you need a working picture of the programme. A Diploma student takes six subjects drawn across the subject groups, studying some at Higher Level and the rest at Standard Level. Alongside those sit three core components: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and creativity, activity, service. Each of the six subjects carries internal assessment, marked at school against published criteria and moderated externally, with external examinations at the end of the second year.

The feature that distinguishes the Diploma from the systems around it is not difficulty in any single subject. It is simultaneity. A DP1 student is carrying six syllabuses, an Extended Essay research question, a Theory of Knowledge exhibition and a service commitment at the same time, with internal deadlines set by the school that cluster in the same few weeks. Families who think their child has a chemistry problem frequently have a scheduling problem, and the two require entirely different help.

That has a direct consequence for tutoring. The first useful act is often not teaching at all; it is laying the school's published internal deadlines on a single sheet and seeing where the collisions are. A tutor who asks for that timeline in the first conversation is thinking about the year. A tutor who starts teaching content in the first thirty minutes may be excellent at the subject and is not yet looking at the problem.

One caution on dates, which matters because this page is read by families planning around them. Dubai IB schools predominantly sit the May session. No specific IB examination or results date is published on this page, because such dates could not be verified from the IB's own site during research. Confirm every date with your school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org before building a revision plan around it, and treat any tutoring page quoting IB dates with appropriate caution, including the ones that sound confident.

04

The subjects where a local search genuinely fails, and what happens then

Availability is the thing nobody in this market publishes. Every competitor page implies that any subject can be covered immediately, and none of them discloses a limit. That is a straightforward trust problem, because the limits are real and a parent finds out about them after paying rather than before.

So here is the position stated plainly. Mathematics at both levels and both courses, the three sciences, English A, economics and business management are well covered at evening Gulf Standard Time slots, and a match in those subjects is usually a matter of a few working days. Psychology, geography, history and global politics are covered but thinner, particularly at Higher Level and particularly in the weeks before a session. Language B and ab initio subjects other than the largest are genuinely thin. Arabic at ab initio level, several of the less common language options, music, theatre and film are the subjects where a request may not be fillable at the hour you want.

What happens when yours is one of the thin ones depends on the subject. For a written subject or a language where the work is reading, drafting and discussion, a specialist outside the UAE working on a Gulf Standard Time slot is usually a good solution and is offered as exactly that, with the arrangement described rather than hidden behind a local-looking telephone number. For a component-heavy subject where timing matters, the fallback is narrower, and sometimes the honest answer is no.

An honest no is worth more than it sounds. If the specialist is not available, the useful alternatives are often adjacent: technique work that transfers across papers, or support in a different subject where a recoverable mark actually exists. A family told in week one that their child's Higher Level theatre request cannot be met, and offered English A support instead, keeps their money and their weeks. A family told in week four has lost both.

What The Springs itself does to an evening timetable

  • A four o'clock session is genuinely workable in The Springs, unlike the villa districts
  • Students travelling out to Al Sufouh or Arabian Ranches need a 5.30pm start
  • Split households with one IB and one IGCSE child are common here
  • Two systems can be taught back-to-back on one evening online
  • Families move within this cluster, and a proximity-based arrangement breaks each time

This community has a genuine practical advantage that the villa districts nearby do not, and it is worth naming because it changes what is bookable. The Springs is built tight. Springs 1 to 15 sit close together around the lakes and the souk, with a secondary school inside Springs 3, and a large proportion of children walk or cycle home. A four o'clock session is therefore a real option here, where in Emirates Hills the same booking collapses in the first week because the bus run does not allow it.

That matters more than it appears. The hour between four and five is the most productive tutoring hour available to a teenager, before fatigue and after school. Families who can use it should, and families in The Springs mostly can. The ones who cannot are usually those whose children travel out of community to school, towards Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or across Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Arabian Ranches, where thirty-five to forty-five minutes door to door is normal in the evening.

The second local factor is that households here are frequently split between the two routes. A Diploma student and an IGCSE sibling in the same house is a common pattern, because the British secondary is inside the community while the IB continuum schools are minutes away in The Meadows and Emirates Hills. Teaching two children on two systems back-to-back on one evening works well online and is almost impossible to arrange with visiting tutors, since it would require two different specialists to drive to the same address an hour apart.

The third is that this is a community people move within rather than out of. Families trade up from a Springs townhouse to a Meadows or Emirates Hills villa, or down to an apartment in the Marina, and the children stay at the same schools. A tutoring arrangement built on proximity breaks at every one of those moves. One built on a subject specialist and a held time slot does not, which is the most mundane and most frequently decisive argument in this whole comparison.

06

Online and in-home compared, with the AED attached

A comparison is only useful if both columns are filled in honestly, including the one we do not sell. Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run from AED 180 to 500 an hour, and monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions appear in the market at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Online rates for a qualified subject tutor sit at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour on Bestimate's Dubai tables, with an advertised online package at AED 799 a month for eight sessions, and budget online tutoring advertised from around AED 45 to 150.

What the in-home premium buys is worth separating into parts. Some of it buys a person in the room, which for a younger child or a student whose difficulty is organisational is genuinely valuable and should not be dismissed. Some of it buys travel: a car, a security gate and an hour of evening traffic, which buys nothing academic at all. And some of it buys a smaller pool, because a tutor who can only work a few evenings cannot afford to specialise narrowly, which is the hidden cost that matters most for a minority qualification like the Diploma.

For IB specifically, the balance tilts further than it does for other curricula. An IGCSE maths tutor is a broad specialism and a competent local one is findable. A Higher Level Economics tutor fluent in internal assessment criteria is not, and the difference between the right person and an approximately right person is larger in a subject assessed partly on components a non-specialist has never seen marked. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE, so this is a description of a market rather than a choice being offered.

Two standing cautions. These are rates published by named providers and read in October 2026, not a price list, so ask for a current quote and establish in writing whether VAT is included and what the replacement terms are. And for context on household costs generally, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion; school fees being held does not mean tutoring rates are.

Internal assessment, the Extended Essay and where help becomes malpractice

  • Legitimate: teaching content, explaining criteria, challenging a question, feedback on drafts
  • Not legitimate: writing, completing or producing any part of the work
  • The test: is there a visible trail of the student's own drafting and improvement?
  • Board material is referenced and never supplied; the school holds the correct version
  • The student carries the consequence of malpractice, not the person who helped

Every Diploma subject carries internal assessment, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge essay sit alongside them. Together those components represent a large share of a student's final result, they are produced over months rather than hours, and they are the point at which the market in this region behaves worst. One site found during research sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Anybody considering that should understand precisely what is being purchased: a malpractice finding against their own child, with the Diploma itself at risk.

The legitimate boundary is clear and it is not restrictive. A tutor teaches the content. A tutor explains what the assessment criteria reward, in the student's actual subject. A tutor challenges a research question while it can still be narrowed, which is the single most valuable intervention available on any of these components. A tutor reads the student's own draft and gives feedback on it. A tutor rehearses an oral under timing. A tutor never writes, completes or produces the work, and never edits it to the point where the words stop being the student's own.

The practical test a parent can apply is simple: at the end of the process, is there a visible trail of the student's own improvement across their own drafts? If yes, the help was teaching. If the final version appeared from nowhere, it was not. School supervisors are experienced at spotting the second pattern, and the authentication process exists precisely for it.

One further point specific to this market. Past papers, mark schemes and subject guides belong to the IB and are not reproduced or distributed by a tutor; they are referenced, and the work is done from what the school provides, which has the advantage of being the correct version for the session being sat. A provider circulating a library of board material is telling you something about how it treats rules in general, and that is information worth having before you hand over a student's coursework.

08

What a parent in Dubai can actually verify

Since proximity cannot be the check, something else has to be. The useful list is shorter than it looks and every item on it is genuinely verifiable, which is more than can be said for most of what this market advertises.

Start with the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Those offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted to you as unverified. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, which lists a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Then the school side. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, and its inspection reports are published and free to read, which makes them a far better source on a school than any marketing material. Abu Dhabi is regulated by ADEK, Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so the regulator's remit goes well beyond inspection.

Then what nobody can verify, and should therefore be discounted. A satisfaction percentage with no sample size, date or method. A star rating a provider has awarded itself, particularly where the figure in the page markup differs from the one on screen. A claim of examiner status with nothing to evidence it. A claim of KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval: no tutoring platform holds board accreditation, and a KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises. IB Gram does not hold one and does not claim to. And any promise about a grade, which is the clearest signal available that a provider is selling a feeling rather than a service.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Springs

The Springs sits inside a group of Emaar communities that share roads, schools and traffic. What follows is what each one does to the practical business of booking an evening session.

The Springs

Springs 1 to 15, built close together around lakes and a souk, with a British-curriculum secondary inside Springs 3. Many children walk or cycle home, which makes The Springs one of the few communities in this part of Dubai where a four o'clock session genuinely holds.

The Meadows

Immediately adjacent and sharing access roads, with an IB continuum school inside the community. Most Diploma enquiries from this cluster come from Meadows and Emirates Hills families rather than from The Springs itself.

Emirates Hills

Large villa plots with controlled access and long internal roads, so the bus run eats the late afternoon. Sessions here settle at half past five, which is worth knowing if siblings in two communities are being taught on one evening.

The Lakes

Quieter and closer to Sheikh Zayed Road, with households often split between the IB and British routes. Diploma and A Level sessions booked back-to-back for two children are a standing request from these addresses.

The Greens

Apartments with a school on the doorstep and short journeys, so early slots work. The limiting factor is a quiet place to talk, which matters for oral components and Theory of Knowledge discussion more than for anything else.

The Views

Next to The Greens and the Emirates Golf Club, with most Diploma students travelling out towards Al Sufouh or Al Barsha. Thirty-five to forty-five minutes in evening traffic makes half past five the realistic start.

Al Sufouh and Al Barsha

Where a large share of this catchment's Diploma cohorts are actually taught. A student here can be matched to a specialist in another time zone and still make a six o'clock session after eating.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Reached from The Springs along Sheikh Zayed Road, and a frequent destination for families trading a townhouse for an apartment. A DP1 student mid-Extended Essay keeps the same tutor through that move, which is the clearest practical case for online delivery.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Springs

The Springs, The Meadows and Emirates Hills

The schools inside or immediately beside these gates, covering both the IB continuum and IGCSE into A Level. Families here routinely compare the two routes, and children move between them without changing address, which is why both appear in the same cluster.

  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School

Arabian Ranches, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha

The campuses a short drive away across Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road or along Sheikh Zayed Road, several of which run the Diploma. Journey time rather than reputation is usually what decides between them for a Springs family.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai College
  • Safa Community School

These schools are named to describe the catchment this page serves. IB Gram has no affiliation with, partnership with or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, the level and the next deadline

The useful first message is specific: the subject, Higher or Standard Level, which internal assessment or core component is live, and the school's own deadline for it. School internal deadlines govern a Diploma year far more than the examination date does.

  2. 02

A free first lesson with the matched specialist

The tutor spends it on evidence: the most recent marked work, the assessment criteria for the live component, and where the marks are actually going. If the weeks remaining will not reach the grade you want, you hear it here and owe nothing.

  3. 03

    Ask the eight questions

Use the list on this page on the tutor you are matched with, and on anybody else you are considering. A specialist will answer all eight without hesitating. The two questions about boundaries and about the permit are the most informative of the set.

  4. 04

A written plan against the school's timeline

You receive the sequence mapped onto the school's published internal deadlines rather than onto a generic term, with the collisions identified. For many DP1 families this document alone resolves what looked like a subject problem.

  5. 05

    Weekly sessions with criterion-marked work

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on a held Gulf Standard Time slot, with notes afterwards and work set for the week. That work is marked against the published criteria, because a percentage tells a Diploma student nothing they can act on.

  6. 06

    Coverage stated honestly, including no

If your subject is one of the thin ones, you are told before booking, offered the nearest workable alternative, and given an honest no where that is the answer. A no in week one is worth considerably more than a match in week four.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level, not location

The Diploma is a minority qualification and a subject at a level is a narrow specialism. Removing the drive is what makes it possible to hold every other requirement constant, which is the whole argument for the model.

Eight questions you can use on anyone

The checklist on this page works on any provider, including this one. Publishing the questions that would expose a weak tutor is a more useful trust signal than any claim a page could make about itself.

Coverage limits published

Which subjects are well covered, which are thin and which may not be fillable at all is stated in a table before you book. No competitor in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere.

The school's deadlines treated as the real ones

A Diploma year is governed by internal deadlines the school sets, not by the examination date. Planning starts from that timeline, which is why the first session often asks for it before teaching anything.

A firm line on coursework

Teaching, criteria, a challenged research question and feedback on the student's own draft. Never writing, completing or producing the work. This region contains providers selling completed assessments, and the student carries that risk alone.

Only verifiable claims

Rates are attributed to the provider that published them and dated. No self-awarded ratings, no satisfaction statistics, no claimed regulator or board approval, and no promise about a grade.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Springs: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB specialist living near The Springs?+

For mathematics or English, possibly. For most other subjects at a specific level, probably not, and it is better to know that now. IB programmes account for roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private enrolment, each Diploma student takes six subjects at two levels, and the specialism you need is something like Higher Level Economics with internal assessment experience. Restrict that to people who can reach a Springs townhouse by five on a weekday and the pool is close to empty in most subjects. Dropping the travel requirement, and keeping subject, level and hour, is what makes a genuine match possible.

What should I ask a tutor to find out whether they really know the Diploma?+

Ask about assessment rather than content, because content knowledge is the easy part. Which subject and level have they taught most recently, and when. What exactly is the internal assessment in that subject marked on. What is the word or time limit on it. What will they not do with a draft. How will they show you progress. Do they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. What happens if it is not working after a month. A specialist answers all of those without hesitating; a subject graduate with no Diploma experience will redirect to enthusiasm and years of teaching.

Why does my DP1 child seem to be struggling in every subject at once?+

Because the Diploma's defining feature is simultaneity rather than difficulty in any one subject. A DP1 student is carrying six syllabuses, an Extended Essay research question, a Theory of Knowledge exhibition and a service commitment, with internal deadlines set by the school that tend to cluster in the same few weeks. Families who believe they have a chemistry problem frequently have a scheduling problem, and the two need completely different help. The first useful step is laying the school's published internal deadlines on one sheet and finding the collisions before buying any teaching.

Which IB subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in Dubai?+

Language B and ab initio subjects outside the largest languages, and music, theatre, film and visual arts, particularly at Higher Level. Psychology, history, geography and global politics are covered but thinner, especially in the weeks before a session. Mathematics in both courses, the three sciences, English A, economics and business management are well covered at evening Gulf Standard Time slots. Where a subject cannot be filled you should be told before paying, offered a specialist working from outside the UAE on your time slot where that genuinely suits the subject, or given an honest no.

Can a session in The Springs realistically start at four o'clock?+

Usually yes, which makes this community unusual in the area. The Springs is built tightly around the lakes and the souk with a secondary school inside Springs 3, and a large proportion of children walk or cycle home. That makes the four-to-five hour genuinely available, and it is the most productive tutoring hour a teenager has. The exception is students who travel out of community towards Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or across to Arabian Ranches, where thirty-five to forty-five minutes door to door in evening traffic makes half past five the honest booking.

Can one evening cover an IB child and an IGCSE sibling?+

Yes, and it is a common request from these addresses, because the British secondary sits inside Springs 3 while the IB continuum schools are minutes away in The Meadows and Emirates Hills. Back-to-back sessions with two different specialists on one evening work straightforwardly online. The same arrangement is close to impossible with visiting tutors, since it would need two people to drive to the same address an hour apart, which is why in-home providers tend to push families towards one tutor covering both children regardless of fit.

Does IB Gram send a Diploma tutor to a house in The Springs?+

No. Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists in India only, and there is no UAE office or centre. The reason is the one this whole page is built on: for a minority qualification assessed partly on components a non-specialist has never seen marked, the gap between the right tutor and an approximately right one is wide, and travel is what forces the compromise.

What does the in-home premium actually buy for an IB student?+

Three things, which are worth separating. A person in the room, which genuinely helps a younger child or a student whose difficulty is organisational. Travel, which buys nothing academic: published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor on Bestimate's tables. And a smaller tutor pool, because somebody who can only work a few evenings cannot afford a narrow specialism. For the Diploma that third item matters most, since level and component knowledge is precisely what decides the grade.

How long does it take to match an IB tutor for a Springs student?+

For the well-covered subjects, usually a few working days. Mathematics in both courses, the three sciences, English A, economics and business management are the straightforward ones. The variable is not the subject so much as the hour and the level: Higher Level in a thinner subject in the fortnight before a session can take up to a fortnight to fill or may not be fillable. You are told which situation you are in before booking, with a realistic start date rather than an optimistic one, because an honest wait beats a poor match.

Where is the line between IB tutoring help and malpractice?+

A tutor may teach the content, explain what the assessment criteria reward in the actual subject, challenge a research question while it can still be narrowed, read your child's own draft and give feedback, and rehearse an oral under timing. A tutor may never write, complete or produce the work, and may not edit it until the words stop being your child's. The test a parent can apply is whether there is a visible trail of the student's own drafts improving. School supervisors are experienced at spotting work that appeared from nowhere, and the student is the person who carries the finding.

Will a tutor provide IB past papers and subject guides?+

No, and an offer to supply a library of them should make you cautious about a provider generally. Past papers, mark schemes and subject guides belong to the IB, and reproducing or distributing them is a copyright matter; for unreleased material it is an assessment-security matter too. A tutor references them and works from what your child's school supplies, which also has the practical advantage of being the correct version for the session being sat. How a provider treats this rule is a reasonable proxy for how it treats others.

How do I check that a private tutor is permitted to work in the UAE?+

Ask directly, and expect a straightforward answer. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted to you is unverified. MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service lists a two-working-day completion time.

Can a tutoring platform in Dubai hold a permit from KHDA?+

A training institute with premises in Dubai can hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which requires initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific licence for a specific kind of operation, and it is not something an online matching platform holds. IB Gram does not hold it and does not claim to. Any provider describing its tutors as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson is making a claim worth asking them to evidence.

Should I believe a provider's published IB exam dates?+

Verify them, always, including anything on this page. Dubai IB schools predominantly sit the May session, and that much is safe to plan around. Specific IB examination and results dates could not be confirmed from the IB's own site during research for these pages, so none are published here. Confirm every date with your school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org before building a plan around it. More practically, the dates that actually govern your child's year are the school's own internal deadlines for internal assessments and the Extended Essay.

What should I do first if my child's results are worse than expected?+

Before buying anything, get the marked components and the school's view of where the marks went. Separate the three causes: content not learned, assessment not understood, or deadlines not managed. Each needs a different response, and only the first is fixed by teaching. Then ask what the school's own plan is, since a Diploma coordinator has information no external provider has. A tutor is worth adding once you know which of the three problems you actually have; adding one before that is how families spend a term on the wrong thing.

Ask the eight questions, then stop worrying about distance

Take the eight questions on this page to anybody you are considering, including us. A tutor who can name your child's internal assessment criteria, state the word limit without checking, tell you plainly what they will not do with a draft and answer the permit question directly is worth far more than one who happens to live two streets away. Bring the most recent marked work and the school's internal deadline sheet to a free first lesson. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time for families in The Springs, The Meadows, The Lakes, Emirates Hills, The Greens and The Views.
