IB Tutor near me in Karama

Typing IB tutor near me in Karama into Google gets you a list sorted by distance. That is the wrong sort order for the IB. A Diploma grade is decided by whether the tutor knows the subject at the level your child takes it, and Karama sits twenty minutes from Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai, where the answer would be the same. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, first one free.

IB & IGCSE in Karama

Why distance is the wrong filter for a Diploma tutor

Karama is one of the most walkable parts of Dubai and one of the most school-dense. A parent searching for a tutor nearby is applying a reasonable instinct from almost every other kind of service: find the competent person who is closest. For the IB Diploma that instinct produces a worse result than almost any other filter, because the Diploma is not one subject. It is six subjects at two different levels, plus a core worth three points, and a tutor who is excellent in one of those cells is useless in another.

Work through what the search actually returns. Within a short drive of Karama there will be tutors who teach maths well, several who cover IGCSE science, a few who have taught Diploma subjects at Standard Level, and very few who have taken a Higher Level subject through to final papers more than once or twice. If your child needs Economics HL paper technique or a Physics HL specialist, distance has filtered that person out and replaced them with whoever is available at five o'clock. The grade does not care how close the tutor lives.

The second problem with the proximity filter is that it quietly costs money. An in-home hour in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's rate table, with independent home tutors going to AED 500, and a substantial part of that premium is the car. Travel buys presence in the room, which matters for a ten-year-old and matters much less for a seventeen-year-old working through a past paper on a shared screen. In the Diploma, the money spent on travel is money not spent on subject depth.

Our position on this is fixed and worth stating before anything else. Every UAE lesson is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service exists in India only, and no tutor will arrive at a Karama address. The reason is the one above: we would rather match a Karama student to the right Higher Level specialist than to the nearest available generalist.

What follows is the Diploma itself rather than a pitch. How the 45 points are built and why 42 of them come from subjects. The pass conditions that sit behind the 24-point minimum, which catch families by surprise every year. The six groups and what the level choice inside them commits a student to. How Karama compares with Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai, and why the comparison matters less than it looks. What the market charges, with every figure attributed. And where the academic-honesty line sits around the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge.

At a glance

  • Six subjects graded 1 to 7 give a maximum of 42 points
  • The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge together add up to three bonus points
  • A Diploma needs 24 points and satisfaction of several separate pass conditions
  • Higher Level and Standard Level are different courses, not the same course at different speeds
  • Market in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 per hour, travel included
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Karama and the neighbouring areas feed students into several routes, and the IB is only one of them. These are the programmes we teach around, with what each means for a family in this part of Dubai.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, one from each of six groups, taken at Higher or Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Subjects are graded 1 to 7 for a maximum of 42 points, with up to three further points from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination, giving the familiar 45.

Karama families reach IB Diploma provision in Oud Metha, across the Creek in Deira and Al Garhoud, and further out towards Al Quoz and the Marina. Because Diploma cohorts in old Dubai are concentrated in relatively few schools, Higher Level sets can be small, which is good for attention and bad for availability when a student needs catch-up help in a subject the school teaches to twelve people.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against published criteria rather than mark schemes, with a Personal Project in the final year. The MYP builds research and inquiry habits that the Extended Essay later rewards, and does not build the timed-paper discipline the Diploma assumes from the first term.

Students arriving in a Karama-area Diploma class from an MYP school usually need exam technique before new content. Students arriving from IGCSE usually need the opposite. Knowing which route a student came through is the first useful thing a tutor learns, and it changes what the first six weeks contain.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE, as the route in

The dominant pre-Diploma route in old Dubai. IGCSE builds paper technique and content coverage but does not build the quantitative or essay-length demands of Higher Level subjects. The gap is predictable, subject by subject, and it can be closed in a short block of work before the Diploma begins rather than discovered in DP1.

Karama, Oud Metha and Al Mankhool have a heavy concentration of British and Indian-curriculum schools running IGCSE at 16. A student with strong IGCSE grades who then struggles in DP1 is the single most common enquiry we receive from this area, and it is almost never a lack of ability.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme and A Level alternatives

The Diploma is not the only honest answer at 16. A Career-related Programme, or A Levels with three or four subjects and no core requirements, suits some students better. A tutor who has watched a student fight the Diploma for a term is often well placed to say so, and the conversation belongs with the school's coordinator.

Dubai's private sector ran 227 schools and 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curricula at 37% of enrolment against 7% on IB programmes, and seven more schools opening for the 2026-27 intake. A Karama family changing route has real options rather than a theoretical choice.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Diploma tutor is hired for a specific cell in a grid of six groups and two levels. These are the subjects most often requested from Karama and the neighbouring areas, with what actually costs marks in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The hardest subject to rescue late, because it is cumulative and the HL paper assumes two years of accumulated fluency. Marks are lost in proof structure, in calculus applications set in unfamiliar contexts, and in the exploration where a weak research question caps the mark before any mathematics is done.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-heavy work. Students choose it expecting an easier course and meet a different difficulty: interpreting output and justifying a model in words. The HL route is substantial and should not be treated as the soft option some school corridors claim it is.

Physics

HL and SL

Punishes unit and uncertainty sloppiness harder than any other Group 4 subject. Fields and circular motion are the commonest HL stall points, and the internal investigation lives or dies on whether uncertainty was planned for at the design stage rather than bolted on afterwards.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Built on Structure and Reactivity themes with HL depth inside each. Multi-step enthalpy cycles, equilibrium justification and mechanism notation are where Higher Level marks go. The scientific investigation carries a fifth of the grade and is usually designed too broadly.

Biology

HL and SL

The highest content volume in Group 4 and the subject most often revised by rereading notes. Extended response marks require explanation chains rather than fact lists, and data-based questions require interpretation rather than description.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram discipline and command-term precision decide the grade. Students who draw a correct diagram and then fail to refer to it in the written answer lose marks they have already earned. HL adds quantitative work that catches students who chose Economics to avoid calculation.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study application rather than theory recall. The commonest failure is writing a textbook definition where the question asked for an evaluation of the organisation in the stimulus material. The internal assessment rewards a narrow, answerable research question.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis under time pressure, and the skill is framing an argument quickly rather than noticing more devices. Students lose marks by cataloguing techniques without connecting them to meaning, and HL adds the written essay on a studied work.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay feed the three bonus points alongside the Extended Essay. Most TOK marks are lost on structure: a student who argues from examples rather than from knowledge questions writes a good essay for the wrong assessment.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words on a research question of the student's choice, supervised by a school-appointed supervisor. Failure is almost always scope: a question too broad to answer in the length or too narrow to sustain it. Our role is question shaping, source criticism and feedback on the student's own drafts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats for Diploma support, chosen by where the student sits in the two-year course rather than by convenience.

Weekly across DP1 and DP2

The format that suits the Diploma, because every assessment in it is cumulative and the internal assessments sit on school deadlines months before the papers. A weekly hour from early DP1 means the internal assessment gets a workable research question in term one and the subject content is built before the final year compresses everything.

  • One tutor for the full course, with nothing re-explained from scratch
  • Internal assessment planning starts on the school's DP1 timeline
  • Written work set and marked between lessons
  • Session notes a parent can follow without knowing the subject

Subject-specific intensive before the papers

Eight to twelve weeks on one or two subjects, starting from a marked mock script rather than a revision timetable. Work is organised by paper rather than by topic, because that is how the exam is organised, and command-term discipline usually produces faster movement than new content at this stage.

  • Begins with the student's own mock, marked and annotated
  • Paper-by-paper technique rather than topic-by-topic revision
  • Timed sections under conditions, with permitted materials only
  • Two sessions a week in the final stretch where that is useful

Core support: Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

A short block on the three bonus points, which are the cheapest points on the Diploma and the most often neglected. Question shaping, source criticism, structure, and criterion-referenced feedback on drafts the student has written. The school-appointed supervisor keeps their formal role throughout.

  • Research question scoped to 4,000 words honestly
  • TOK essay structured around knowledge questions, not examples
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, criterion by criterion
  • Nothing written, co-written or edited to completion

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Karama

01

What a near-me search actually buys, and what it costs you

A proximity search answers one question well: who can be physically present in this room soon. For a Diploma student that is rarely the binding problem. The binding problem is whether the person teaching has taken this subject at this level through to final papers and can read a mark scheme the way an examiner reads it. Proximity and subject depth are unrelated variables, and sorting by the first discards most of the second.

There is a measurable cost to the sort order too. The in-home premium in Dubai sits at AED 180 to 350 an hour in Bestimate's published table, with independent home tutors quoted as high as AED 500, and most of the gap above the online specialist band is travel rather than teaching. A Karama family paying it is buying a car journey. For a seventeen-year-old working through a past paper on a shared screen, that journey adds nothing the lesson needed.

The reliability cost is smaller but it lands at the worst time. A tutor driving into Karama at five o'clock has come through some of the densest street parking in Dubai, and the lost fifteen or twenty minutes comes out of an hour that was paid in full. During the term when internal assessment deadlines and mocks collide, those sessions get shortened, moved or dropped. The table below sets out what proximity genuinely delivers against what it does not, because both columns are worth knowing before booking anything.

02

The arithmetic of 45 points

Most parents can name the number 45 and very few can say how it is assembled, which makes it hard to judge where tutoring money should go. Six subjects are each graded from 1 to 7, which gives a maximum of 42. The remaining three come from the combination of the Extended Essay grade and the Theory of Knowledge grade, read together on a published matrix. Creativity, Activity, Service carries no points at all but must be completed for the Diploma to be awarded.

The consequence is that the core is worth about the same as a whole subject, and it is the part of the Diploma that receives the least structured teaching in most schools. A student who converts a C and a C into a B and a B across the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge can gain points more cheaply than by grinding a Higher Level subject from a 5 to a 6. For a family budgeting tutoring hours from Karama, that is a genuinely useful piece of arithmetic.

The second consequence concerns level choice. Three subjects are normally taken at Higher Level and three at Standard, and the points scale is identical in both. A 6 at Standard Level is worth exactly as many points as a 6 at Higher Level. Universities differentiate, which is why Higher Level choices matter for admission, but the Diploma total does not. Students carrying four Higher Levels for prestige rather than for an entry requirement are paying in workload for points they could get more safely.

HOW A 45-POINT DIPLOMA SCORE IS BUILT
ComponentHow it is gradedMaximum contributionWhat this means for tutoring priorities
Six subjects, three Higher and three Standard LevelEach graded 1 to 742 pointsA point is a point regardless of level; target the subjects closest to a boundary

Theory of KnowledgeGraded A to E, combined with the Extended EssayPart of the 3 core pointsThe cheapest points available and the least taught; usually worth a short block
Creativity, Activity, ServiceCompleted or not completedNo points, but requiredNo tutoring role; missing completion blocks the Diploma regardless of score
Bilingual DiplomaAwarded on subject combination, not extra pointsNo additional pointsRelevant to university applications, not to the total
03

The pass conditions behind the 24-point minimum

Twenty-four points is the headline threshold and it is not the whole requirement. A candidate can reach 24 and still not be awarded the Diploma, because several separate conditions sit alongside the total. A grade 1 in any subject blocks the award. So does more than a limited number of grade 2s, and more than a limited number of grades at 3 or below. Higher Level and Standard Level grades each carry their own minimum aggregate. The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge cannot both sit at the bottom of the scale. Creativity, Activity, Service must be complete, and any finding of academic misconduct is disqualifying on its own.

This matters for how tutoring is bought, and it is the opposite of what most families do. The instinct is to put money into the strongest subject to push a 6 to a 7, because that is where progress feels visible. The arithmetic says to put it into the weakest subject first, because a grade 2 or a grade 1 does not just cost points, it can cost the Diploma outright. A student at risk in one subject and comfortable in five is in more danger than a student with five 5s and no risk anywhere.

The precise thresholds are published by the IB and are revised from time to time, so a family should confirm the current conditions with their school's Diploma coordinator rather than from any tutoring page, including this one. What a tutor can do is read the student's current grade profile against the shape of those conditions and say plainly where the risk sits. That conversation is usually fifteen minutes long and it changes how the next six months are spent.

04

The six groups, and the level decision inside them

A Diploma candidate takes one subject from each of six groups: studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and the arts, with the arts replaceable by a second subject from another group. Three subjects are taken at Higher Level and three at Standard, and some schools permit four at Higher. The structure is fixed; the choices inside it are where students make the decisions they later regret.

The commonest regret in this cluster is a Higher Level subject chosen for prestige rather than for a university requirement. Higher Level carries more teaching hours, longer papers and deeper content, and the points scale gives it no advantage. If an intended degree does not demand the subject at Higher Level, the honest question is whether the student is more likely to reach a 6 at Standard than a 5 at Higher. The second regret is the mathematics route, where Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation lead to different university doors.

A tutor is often the first adult to look at this without an institutional interest. Schools have timetables and set sizes to fill, and university counsellors see the application rather than the weekly workload. Someone who has taught both levels of a subject can say what the gap between them actually feels like for a student with this particular profile, and can say it in DP1 when changing is still straightforward. A Karama family with a student halfway through DP1 and struggling in two Higher Level subjects should be having that conversation now rather than in the final year.

Karama against Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai

Comparing these four neighbourhoods is useful precisely because the comparison comes out flat. Karama is walkable and school-dense with short school runs. Oud Metha next door holds some of the largest campuses in the city and most of the nearby IB provision. Al Mankhool is residential and central with quick access across the Creek. Bur Dubai is the oldest of the four in school terms, with heavy Indian-curriculum representation. Those are real differences and they affect a family's daily logistics.

None of them affect the Diploma. The subject grade scale is the same, the core matrix is the same, the internal assessment deadlines are set by the student's own school rather than by the emirate, and the exam session is the same one across all four. A student in Al Mankhool and a student in Karama sitting the same Higher Level subject face identical papers. The only variable that moves between the four is how far someone would have to drive to reach them, and that variable only matters if you insist on buying tuition by distance.

Where the neighbourhoods genuinely diverge is session timing. A Karama or Al Mankhool family with a walking school run can hold a four o'clock slot comfortably. A family commuting from Bur Dubai to a school across the Creek, or from Al Qusais to Festival City, is realistically looking at six or seven o'clock on a weekday. That is a scheduling fact rather than a quality difference, and it is the one piece of local knowledge that genuinely changes a tutoring plan.

What Diploma tutoring costs, and what the travel premium actually buys

Separate the rate into the part that pays for teaching and the part that pays for a car, because the second is larger than most families assume. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one tutoring at AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors are quoted up to AED 500. Online qualified subject tutors sit lower: Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 and IB tutoring from AED 200. The difference between those bands is mostly travel time billed back to the family, and in a Diploma subject it buys no additional syllabus depth.

At the budget end, EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. That band buys guided practice during the hour and usually nothing between lessons, which is enough for a student who will not revise alone and not enough for a Higher Level gap. At the top, TutorChase quotes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Monthly packages in this market run about AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Three honest notes. These are market figures published by the named providers and read in October 2026; they are not IB Gram's price list, and we quote after the free trial because the number depends on subject, level and frequency. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. And for context on household budgets, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

Online one-to-one, in-home, or a group class nearby

The three formats answer three different questions and families often buy the wrong one. A group class at a centre in Karama or Al Mankhool is a good purchase for broad revision coverage and for a student who works better in company. It is a poor purchase for a specific Higher Level gap, because the class moves at the group's pace and the gap survives. It is also a second journey at the end of a school day.

In-home one-to-one buys a person in the room, which genuinely helps younger students and students who cannot hold attention without someone beside them. The costs are the rate, the usual two-hour minimum, and the hostage-to-traffic problem. IB Gram does not sell this format in the UAE at all: home visits are an India-only service, and no tutor will come to a Karama address. We would rather state that in the first paragraph of a page than have a parent discover it after a booking call.

Online one-to-one is what we do sell here, and the argument for it in the Diploma is pool depth rather than convenience. A Karama student who needs Economics HL paper technique or Physics HL uncertainty work is matched to someone who teaches that cell of the grid, and the shared screen with a past paper on it is closer to the assessed task than a kitchen table is. Sessions start on the stated minute and the whiteboard is still there the next morning.

The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and where a tutor must stop

  • Research-question scoping is legitimate and high value; writing is not
  • The school-appointed supervisor keeps their formal role throughout
  • Feedback is given on drafts the student has written, criterion by criterion
  • No model essays are supplied to adapt, at any price
  • A misconduct finding can cost the Diploma, not just the component

The core is where the academic-honesty line gets tested, so it is worth drawing precisely. The Extended Essay is four thousand words on a research question the student chooses, with a school-appointed supervisor who has a formal role in the process. Theory of Knowledge comprises an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. Together they are worth up to three points. Both are assessed as the student's own work and both are submitted through processes designed to detect work that is not.

A tutor may do a great deal here. Interrogating a research question until it is answerable in four thousand words is probably the highest-value single hour available on the Diploma, because scope errors cap the grade before the writing begins. Teaching how to read the assessment criteria, how to criticise a source, how to structure an argument around a knowledge question rather than around examples, and giving written feedback on a draft the student has produced, are all legitimate and all useful.

A tutor may not write, co-write, draft, restructure by rewriting, or edit to completion any part of the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay, an internal assessment or any other assessed work, and may not supply a model essay to be adapted. Operators in this market sell completed internal assessments outright; that is an academic-integrity breach, it is a malpractice trigger for the student, and a finding of misconduct is disqualifying for the whole Diploma. The downside risk is the entire qualification, which is why the line is not negotiable and why we state it rather than leaving it vague.

09

Regulators, permits and what a Karama parent can check

  • KHDA oversees Dubai private schools; inspection reports are published
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No published fine schedule exists; treat quoted amounts as unverified
  • An individual tutor cannot hold the KHDA permit issued to training institutes

Dubai's private schools sit with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods, so the regulator's role is broader than inspection alone.

Private tutoring is governed separately. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published anywhere we could read, so any amount quoted to a parent is unverified.

Two checks follow. The permit is free, so cost is never a legitimate reason for a tutor not to hold one, and the official route is MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service through its app, website and e-services system. And no individual tutor should be described as approved by a regulator: the KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises and is not what a one-to-one tutor holds. IB Gram does not hold one, operates no Dubai centre, and claims no endorsement from KHDA, the Ministry or any examination board. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school.

Immediately adjacent and home to some of the largest campuses in the city, including IB provision. Diploma enquiries from this pairing are the highest in old Dubai outside Al Garhoud.

Al Mankhool

Residential and central, with quick access to both sides of the Creek. Families here frequently compare a tuition centre against one-to-one help, which are different products for different problems.

Bur Dubai

Heavy Indian-curriculum representation and several long-established schools. Enquiries arrive earlier in the school year here than from most of the cluster, which makes the tutoring cheaper per grade point.

Al Garhoud

Across the Creek, close to Festival City's international schools, and the strongest source of Higher Level subject demand in old Dubai. Bridge traffic is why in-home arrangements from here fail during exam term.

Deira

North of the Creek, metro-served and dense. A Deira Diploma student and a Karama Diploma student sit the same papers to the same deadlines, which is the point of this page.

Al Qusais

A large school belt running towards Sharjah. Cross-town travel from here to the IB-offering schools is the longest in the cluster and shapes when a session can realistically start.

Al Nahda

On the Dubai and Sharjah line with a heavily Indian-curriculum intake. Mid-course curriculum changes are more common here, and they produce the most complicated tutoring briefs.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Karama

Karama, Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai

The densest school cluster in old Dubai and the one most Karama Diploma students attend or commute from. Students we support attend schools in this group; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied by naming them. Diploma cohorts here are smaller than the IGCSE year groups beneath them, which is why Higher Level sets can be very small.

  • The Indian High School, Oud Metha
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • The Millennium School, Dubai
  • New Academy School
  • Dubai Scholars Private School

Deira, Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

Across the Creek and within commuting distance for a Karama family. This is where IB continuum provision concentrates in old Dubai, and where most of the Higher Level science and maths enquiries from this side of the city originate.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • Westminster School, Al Qusais

Named schools are context for families in this cluster only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the cell, not the subject

Which subject, at which level, and which year of the Diploma. Economics HL in DP2 and Economics SL in DP1 are different jobs needing different tutors. This single detail is what makes a first reply specific instead of generic.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked work

A photographed marked paper or a returned internal assessment draft shows whether the loss is content, technique, structure or scope. A description of the problem from a parent is honest but second-hand, and the script is first-hand.

  3. 03

    Free diagnostic hour

One hour one-to-one over live video at a Gulf Standard Time slot that fits the school day. The tutor works the weakest part of that script with the student and writes up what is costing marks and how long it realistically takes to recover.

  4. 04

Read the grade profile against the pass conditions

Fifteen minutes that most families have never had. Where the Diploma risk actually sits across six subjects and the core, and which subject should receive the next tutoring hour. It is often not the one the family expected.

  5. 05

    Work set, marked and returned

Past-paper questions organised by paper rather than by topic, marked against the scheme with the reasoning shown. For core support, criterion-referenced feedback on drafts the student has written, with nothing rewritten.

  6. 06

    Review every four sessions

Against school assessment results rather than against how the lessons feel. If the plan is not working the tutor or the plan changes, and we raise it rather than waiting for a parent to ask.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by subject and level

A Diploma request is matched to someone who teaches that subject at that level, not to whoever is free and nearby. For Higher Level subjects in old Dubai, the locally available pool is thin, and a travel-radius filter removes exactly the people a Higher Level student needs.

The pass conditions read properly

Twenty-four points is not the whole test, and most families have never seen the conditions that sit alongside it. Reading a student's grade profile against the shape of those conditions usually changes which subject gets the next hour of help.

The core treated as three real points

The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge are worth about as much as a whole subject and receive the least structured teaching. Scoping a research question properly in DP1 is among the highest-return hours available on the entire course.

Academic honesty stated in plain terms

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written, co-written or supplied as a model. Operators in this market sell completed internal assessments; a misconduct finding can cost the whole Diploma, which is why we will not go near it.

Figures attributed, claims absent

Every AED rate here names the provider that published it and the month it was read. No invented satisfaction percentages, no self-assigned ratings, no grade guarantees, and no suggestion that KHDA, the Ministry or any examination board endorses us.

A free first hour, no card

The diagnostic hour costs nothing and nothing renews automatically. If the honest read is that the student needs the school's own support sessions and a past-paper routine rather than a paid tutor, that is what the written summary will say.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Karama: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor near me in Karama, or will the tutor be online?+

Online. Every lesson for a UAE family runs one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we provide in India only, and no tutor will come to a Karama address. The reason is the one this page is built around: a Diploma grade depends on whether the tutor teaches that subject at that level, and hiring inside a travel radius filters for where someone lives rather than what they teach. The practical effect for you is a wider choice of specialists and a session that starts when it is supposed to.

How are the 45 Diploma points actually made up?+

Six subjects are each graded 1 to 7, giving a maximum of 42. The remaining three points come from the combination of the Extended Essay grade and the Theory of Knowledge grade, read together on a published matrix. Creativity, Activity, Service carries no points but must be completed for the Diploma to be awarded. A point from a Standard Level subject is worth exactly as much as a point from a Higher Level one, which is why carrying extra Higher Levels without a university requirement buys workload rather than score.

Can my child reach 24 points and still not get the Diploma?+

Yes, and this surprises families every year. Alongside the points total there are separate conditions: a grade 1 in any subject blocks the award, limits apply to the number of grade 2s and to grades of 3 or below, Higher and Standard Level grades each carry a minimum aggregate, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge cannot both sit at the bottom of the scale, Creativity, Activity, Service must be complete, and a misconduct finding is disqualifying. Confirm the current thresholds with your school's Diploma coordinator, since the IB revises them.

Which subject should we spend tutoring money on first?+

Usually the weakest, not the strongest, which is the opposite of most families' instinct. A very low grade in one subject can block the Diploma outright under the award conditions, while a 6 pushed to a 7 adds a single point. After the weakest subject, the next best value is often the core, because the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge together are worth up to three points and receive the least structured teaching in most schools. A fifteen-minute read of the full grade profile usually reorders a family's priorities.

Do you tutor students at schools in Oud Metha and Bur Dubai too?+

Yes, and the distinction barely exists online. Students we support in this cluster attend schools in Karama, Oud Metha, Al Mankhool, Bur Dubai, Deira and Al Garhoud, including The Indian High School in Oud Metha, Dubai Gem Private School, The Millennium School and Deira International School. Naming them implies no affiliation, partnership or endorsement of any kind. What matters operationally is that the tutor works to the student's own school assessment calendar, which differs between campuses even when the syllabus does not.

My child has strong IGCSE grades but is struggling in DP1. Why?+

It is the most common enquiry we receive from this part of Dubai and it is rarely about ability. IGCSE builds paper technique and content coverage; the Diploma assumes quantitative fluency, essay length and independent research habits that IGCSE does not require. Higher Level subjects compound all three at once, in the same term as the first internal assessment deadlines. The fix is usually a specific skills gap rather than a content gap, and identifying which gap takes one diagnostic hour with the student's own marked work in front of the tutor.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay without crossing a line?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may interrogate the research question until it is answerable in four thousand words, teach how to read the assessment criteria, criticise sources, discuss method, and give written feedback on drafts the student has written. A tutor may not write, co-write, restructure by rewriting or edit to completion any part of it, and may not supply a model essay to adapt. The school-appointed supervisor keeps their formal role throughout. A misconduct finding is disqualifying for the Diploma, so the limits protect the student more than anyone.

Should my child take four Higher Level subjects?+

Only if a university course actually requires the fourth one at Higher Level. The points scale treats Higher and Standard Level identically, so a 6 at Standard is worth as much as a 6 at Higher. A fourth Higher Level adds teaching hours, longer papers and deeper content across a timetable that already includes three internal assessments and the core. Students carrying it for prestige frequently finish with lower totals than they would have had on the standard combination. The decision belongs with the school's coordinator, with the university's published requirements in hand.

Which maths route should a Diploma student in Karama choose?+

It depends on the intended degree rather than on which course sounds easier. Analysis and Approaches is algebra and proof-heavy and is the route most engineering, mathematics and quantitative economics courses expect. Applications and Interpretation is statistics, modelling and technology-led, and is substantial in its own right rather than a soft option. Higher and Standard Level exist in both. Check the published entry requirements of the specific universities on the student's list for the year of entry, because they differ by country and they change.

How many sessions a week do Diploma families usually start with?+

One hour a week per subject is the common starting point, and it is enough for most situations if the work between lessons is actually done. Two sessions a week makes sense in the final stretch before papers, or where a single subject is at genuine risk under the award conditions. More than two subjects at once rarely works: four or five unfamiliar tutoring hours in a week displaces the independent study that converts teaching into marks. We would rather stabilise one subject and add the next a month later.

Does an online tutor know my child's school deadlines?+

Only if they ask, and that is a fair test of any tutor. Internal assessment deadlines in the Diploma are set by the school rather than by the IB, and they differ between campuses in the same neighbourhood. We ask for the school's assessment calendar at the start and plan backwards from it, because an internal assessment due in six weeks changes what this month's sessions should contain. A tutor who has not asked which school the student attends is planning against a generic timeline rather than the real one.

What does the in-home premium in Dubai actually pay for?+

Mostly travel. Bestimate's Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour with independent tutors quoted to AED 500, while Unitors publishes online IB tutoring from AED 200 and TutorChase quotes AED 270. The gap buys a car journey and a person in the room. For a younger child that presence has real value. For a Diploma student working through a past paper on a shared screen it adds nothing the lesson needed, and the two-hour minimum typical of in-home bookings adds cost again. Those figures are the providers' own, read in October 2026.

Is it worth starting tutoring in the final term of DP2?+

Worth doing, but the plan has to be honest about what fits. A final term can move paper technique, command-term discipline and two or three specific topics identified from a marked mock. It cannot rebuild two years of missing content, and a tutor who implies otherwise is selling rather than teaching. Where a late start pays best is a subject sitting just under a boundary, or a core component that has drifted. Where it pays worst is a Higher Level subject the student has been lost in since the first term.

What if no specialist is free in the slot we need from Karama?+

We say so instead of filling the slot with a generalist. Three things usually resolve it. A different hour in the week, which works easily for Karama families with a short or walking school run. A tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus to Gulf Standard Time, with their location disclosed before the free trial rather than after booking. Or sequencing, starting with the subject doing the most damage and adding the second a month later. A Higher Level request is never staffed with a Standard Level-only tutor.

How do I verify that a private tutor in Dubai is permitted to teach?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it is free, cost is never a reason for a tutor not to hold one. Tutoring without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule of amounts. Separately, no individual tutor can hold the KHDA permit, which is issued to institutes with premises.

Sort by subject and level, not by distance

If your child is taking the IB Diploma at a school in or near Karama, the useful first message names the subject, the level and the year of the course, and carries a photograph of the last marked piece of work. The diagnostic hour that follows is free, runs one-to-one over live video at a Gulf Standard Time slot built around the school day, and ends with a written read on where the marks are going and where the Diploma risk actually sits across all six subjects. No card is needed to book it and nothing renews. If the honest answer is that a tutor is not what your child needs, we will say so.
