IB Physics Tutor in Living Legends

An IB physics tutor in Living Legends is competing with a long journey home and a full evening. There is no secondary school inside this community, so Diploma students arrive late and tired, and physics is unforgiving of both. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which means the session can take the hour the work needs rather than the hour left over.

  • Sessions matched to the energy the task actually requires
  • Higher and Standard Level planned as separate briefs
  • Uncertainty and data work taught as its own topic
  • Live video lessons; home visits are an India-only service

IB & IGCSE in Living Legends

Physics, a long commute and the energy that is left

Physics asks a student to hold several quantities in mind at once, choose a route through a problem, carry units through every line and then judge whether the answer is physically sensible. None of that survives exhaustion. In a community where every Diploma student commutes, that makes the energy budget of the week a teaching question rather than an administrative one, and it is the first thing worth getting right.

Living Legends is a single gated community of villas and apartment towers off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, between Dubai Sports City, Motor City and Remraam, with no secondary school inside the gates. Diploma students travel out, most often to Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills Estate or the Al Khail Road corridor. School finishes between half past two and half past three, the journey runs twenty to thirty minutes in free traffic and longer on a bus serving several communities, and the student is home between four and half past four. By the time they have eaten, the clock reads five or later and the mental energy available is not what it was at nine in the morning.

What makes physics different from most subjects here is that the damage is uneven across the course. Recalling the stages of nuclear decay tolerates a tired hour. Working a multi-step mechanics problem does not. Processing uncertainty through a calculation and then writing an evaluation requires sustained attention of exactly the kind a commuting student has least of on a Tuesday evening. So a physics plan that does not distinguish between those tasks spends its best hour on the wrong thing.

There is also the pairing with mathematics, which families underestimate. IB Physics at Higher Level assumes a level of algebraic comfort that Mathematics Applications and Interpretation does not emphasise, and students taking Higher Level physics alongside Applications often find the physics mathematics harder than the physics. That is a diagnosable situation with a specific remedy, and it is far cheaper to address in the first Diploma year than the second.

IB Gram removes travel from the arrangement so the hour becomes a choice. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, so a session can start minutes after arrival, move to a Saturday morning for the heavy work, and be matched on level rather than on who will drive to a gated community at six. Nobody is sent to a Living Legends address; home visits are a service we operate only in India. What follows is the physics detail: which tasks need which hour, the maths pairing, the uncertainty block, the internal assessment, and what the market charges. The order is deliberate, because a family that fixes the week first and the teaching second gets both, while one that books a convenient slot and hopes usually ends up changing tutors when the slot was the problem all along.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics reaches a student here at three points, and the teaching problem is different at each one.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Integrated sciences marked against four criteria on a 0-8 scale, including inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating. The physics strands build the quantitative habits the Diploma assumes: rearranging formulae, handling units and interpreting graphs. Marks are lost where a student answers the question rather than the criterion.

Younger students from this community attend nearby schools in Motor City, Sports City and Remraam, with short journeys and genuinely usable afternoon time. That makes MYP science the one stage where energy is not the limiting factor for a family here.

DP-SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Physics Standard Level

The full conceptual range at reduced depth, with written papers and an internal assessment worth 20 per cent. Mechanics and electricity dominate the mark distribution and are taught early, so weaknesses compound. Unit and significant-figure discipline costs marks on content the student understands perfectly well.

Standard Level suits a student who needs a rigorous quantitative science inside a broad Diploma rather than a physics-based degree. It also tolerates a shorter weekday session better, because the problem chains are less extended than at Higher Level.

DP-HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Physics Higher Level

A considerably larger syllabus with additional higher-level content, longer papers and the same 20 per cent internal assessment. The step up is mathematical as much as conceptual, and questions frequently combine two topics in a single item. Confirm the current paper structure and weightings with the school's coordinator, since the IB science syllabuses were revised recently.

Higher Level physics cohorts at individual Dubai schools are often small, so the number of teachers in the emirate who have taken the course through a final session recently is smaller than the number who teach science. That scarcity is city-wide rather than specific to this community.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The International GCSE route in

Most students here arrive from Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 rather than the MYP. The step is in mathematical fluency and in the expectation that answers are reasoned rather than recalled. A student who did well on recall finds the first Diploma term harder than their grade predicted.

That transition term is where most ground is lost and where work is cheapest. By the second Diploma year the syllabus leaves no room to rebuild a mechanics foundation, and attempting it then displaces revision the student also needs.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is best planned topic by topic, because each topic needs a different amount of concentration and therefore a different slot in a commuting week.

Kinematics and dynamics

SL and HL

Motion graphs, Newton's laws, momentum and impulse. Taught early and relied on throughout, so a gap resurfaces for two years. Marks go missing when a student starts from an equation rather than from a free-body diagram that was never drawn. Needs a sharp hour.

Work, energy and power

SL and HL

Energy transfer, efficiency and conservation arguments. The recurring failure is a correct calculation with no statement of which energy went where, which is what the longer questions pay for. Moderately demanding; suits a good weekday slot.

Electricity and circuits

SL and HL

Current, potential difference, resistance, internal resistance and circuit analysis. Jointly with mechanics this holds the largest share of marks. Losses come from circuits worked from the formula sheet instead of redrawn, which is a habit fixable in a few sessions.

Waves and oscillations

SL and HL, extended at HL

Superposition, standing waves, diffraction and simple harmonic motion. Phase relationships are described loosely and lose marks because the language has to be precise. Content-heavy rather than calculation-heavy, so it tolerates a later slot.

Fields, gravitation and electromagnetism

SL and HL, extended at HL

Field lines, potential, orbital motion and induction. Sign conventions and direction rules are the standard loss and they are drillable rather than conceptual, which makes this an efficient block for a short weekday session.

Thermal physics and gases

SL and HL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat and the gas laws. Questions usually pair a calculation with an explanation of particle behaviour, and candidates answer one half. A compact block of three or four sessions.

Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL, extended at HL

Decay, binding energy, mass-energy equivalence and quantum phenomena. Heavier on precise vocabulary than on calculation, which makes it the best physics topic to place in a tired slot after training.

Data analysis and uncertainties

SL and HL, and the internal assessment

Error propagation, gradients with uncertainty and significant-figure discipline. Where strong candidates leak marks on both the papers and the internal assessment, and the most reliably recoverable area in the whole course. Needs a long, undisturbed session.

The internal assessment

SL and HL, 20 per cent of the grade

An individual investigation assessed against published criteria and moderated by the IB. The band is largely decided by whether the research question produces data with measurable variation, which is settled before apparatus is touched.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by the physics task rather than by a general sense of how much tutoring is appropriate.

Weekday consolidation slot

Forty-five to sixty minutes after the real arrival time, holding the topic the school taught this fortnight. Worked examples, a few questions, a misunderstanding corrected before it sets. Reliable and short outperforms long and negotiable in a commuting household.

  • Fixed hour weekly, set from arrival rather than the school bell
  • Topic order follows the school's scheme of work
  • Problem sets sized for a school night
  • Short written note to the parent after each session

Weekend problem and data block

Ninety minutes or more for the work that needs sustained attention: multi-step mechanics and fields problems, uncertainty propagation, full timed papers and internal assessment analysis. For households with training next door this is often the only genuinely free hour of the week.

  • Long enough for a full paper and a proper review
  • Suited to uncertainty work and multi-topic problems
  • The student's own practical data processed live
  • No travel and no gate for anyone

Internal assessment block

Four to six sessions placed around the school's own deadline, ideally inside a school holiday. The tutor tests whether the research question will yield analysable data, teaches uncertainty treatment and graphing, and gives criterion feedback on the student's own draft. The investigation and the writing are the student's.

  • Research question tested before practical work begins
  • Uncertainty and significant figures taught explicitly
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own text
  • Timed to the school deadline rather than a generic calendar

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Living Legends

01

The energy budget of a commuting physics week

Think about the week as an energy budget rather than a timetable, because that is what physics actually spends. A student has perhaps one genuinely sharp study window, one moderate one and one depleted one after travel, training, mandatory subject homework and everything else. Matching physics tasks to those three windows is the cheapest improvement available to a family in this community, and it costs nothing but planning.

The sharp window, which for most students here is a weekend morning, should carry the problem-solving. Multi-step mechanics, fields and electromagnetism problems, uncertainty propagation and full timed papers all require a chain of reasoning held for twenty minutes or more without interruption. Attempting them at six on a Thursday produces a partial version of each and a student who concludes they are bad at physics when they are simply tired.

The moderate window handles consolidation. The school taught a topic; the student works examples and has a misunderstanding corrected before it hardens. Electricity circuit practice fits here, as does drilling sign conventions in fields, because both are procedural and benefit from frequency rather than length. This is the standard weekday slot and it is genuinely productive when used for the right work.

The depleted window, typically after training, still has a use, and knowing that prevents a family from writing it off. Nuclear and quantum physics is heavier on precise vocabulary than on calculation. Command-term work, going through model answers and tidying definitions all survive a tired hour. So does reviewing a marked paper, because the thinking is being guided rather than generated. The table below assigns the course accordingly.

02

The maths pairing: why Higher Level physics sometimes feels like maths

This is the diagnosis families most often miss, and it is worth checking before any physics content is retaught. IB Physics at Higher Level requires comfortable algebraic manipulation: rearranging relationships with several variables, handling powers and reciprocals confidently, reading and producing gradients from non-obvious plots, and working with proportionality rather than with numbers. A student who can do the physics and not the algebra looks like a student who cannot do the physics.

The route taken in mathematics matters here. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches emphasises exactly the algebraic fluency Higher Level physics assumes. Applications and Interpretation emphasises statistical and modelling work, which is valuable in its own right and less directly aligned. A student taking Higher Level physics alongside Applications is not in trouble, but they are carrying a gap the course will not close for them, and it shows up first in the longer calculation questions rather than in the conceptual ones.

Diagnosing it is straightforward. Give the student a physics question whose physics they can explain verbally and watch where the attempt breaks down. If the reasoning is sound and the manipulation fails, the work needed is algebraic rather than physical, and it is a faster fix than reteaching the topic. Three or four sessions on rearrangement, powers and proportional reasoning often moves more marks than a term of content revision.

The practical advice for a family in this community is to check the pairing early in the first Diploma year rather than in the second. Subject combinations are hardest to adjust later, and where a combination stays as it is, the algebra can be supported deliberately instead of being discovered as a mystery in the spring. The table below sets out what each pairing implies.

PHYSICS LEVEL AND MATHS ROUTE: WHAT EACH PAIRING IMPLIES

03

Uncertainty and data: the most recoverable marks in the course

If a family has budget for one physics block and no diagnosis to guide it, uncertainty and data analysis is the safest choice. It appears in the written papers, it carries real weight in the internal assessment, it is rarely taught as its own topic, and it is almost entirely procedural, which means it responds quickly to direct instruction.

The component skills are specific. Distinguishing absolute from fractional and percentage uncertainty. Propagating uncertainty through a sum, a product and a power. Plotting with error bars and drawing maximum and minimum gradient lines to obtain an uncertainty in a gradient. Quoting a result to a number of significant figures justified by the uncertainty rather than by the calculator display. Distinguishing random from systematic error, and knowing which one a repeated measurement addresses. Writing an evaluation that names a specific error and its specific effect on the result.

Students who have done the laboratory work frequently cannot do any of this, because school practical time is spent on apparatus and procedure while the data treatment is set as homework and never fully taught. That is not a criticism of schools; it is a predictable consequence of limited laboratory time. It does mean the gap is widespread and therefore worth targeting.

This block also suits online delivery unusually well, which matters in a community where a visiting tutor is expensive and loses minutes at the gate. Both people annotate the same data table and graph in real time, maximum and minimum gradients can be drawn and redrawn on screen, and the most valuable session of all is one where the student brings messy data from their own school practical and watches it processed properly. What a screen cannot replace is handling the apparatus, and that stays with the school.

The internal assessment is the first thing a commuting week drops

Twenty per cent of the physics grade sits in an individual investigation, and in a household where the student commutes an hour a day it is the piece of work most likely to be postponed. It has no weekly lesson defending its place, its deadline is set by the school rather than the board, and that deadline falls in a term already crowded with subject assessments. So it gets left, and then it is done in a rush.

The structural problem is that the part which most determines the band happens first. A research question that produces data with no measurable variation, or a variable range too narrow to show a trend, caps the mark however carefully the report is written afterwards. A specialist can see that in one session; a student working alone usually cannot see it until the data has been collected and the time is gone.

So the sequence that works is testing before doing. Is the variable range wide enough to produce a visible effect? Will the uncertainty in the measurement swamp the quantity being measured? Is there something that can be plotted to give a meaningful gradient? Does the physics behind the question go beyond a standard school experiment? Those four checks take one session and protect a term of work, which is why the block should start well before the deadline rather than near it.

The boundary is absolute and worth stating plainly. A tutor may test a research question, explain what each criterion rewards, teach uncertainty propagation and graphing, read a draft the student has written and identify where it is losing marks, and demonstrate an analysis on different data. A tutor must never conduct the investigation, write the report, or redraft it until the work is no longer the student's own. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments; that is an IB malpractice trigger and the penalty falls on the student, whose diploma can be withheld.

05

What the school's laboratory does, and what a tutor does

The honest division of labour answers the objection every physics parent raises about online tuition, and it is not a compromise.

The school runs the practical programme. It has the equipment, the technician, the safety framework and the internal assessment arrangements, and nothing about online tutoring substitutes for any of that. The student handles apparatus, takes measurements and encounters the ordinary frustrations of real experimental work in the laboratory, which is where that learning belongs.

What a tutor teaches is the part of practical physics that is assessed in writing, and it is a substantial part. Identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables precisely. Criticising a given method. Reading an instrument scale and recording to an appropriate precision. Processing data into a table that makes the relationship visible. Plotting with error bars. Extracting a gradient and its uncertainty. Writing an evaluation that distinguishes random from systematic error and proposes an improvement that would genuinely change the result.

Those skills are better taught on a shared screen than at a bench, because both people can annotate the same table and graph live, and because a tutor can display a deliberately flawed method and ask what is wrong with it, which is exactly the format the written papers use. On materials the position is firm: IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, data booklets and grade boundary tables are the organisation's copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well. A tutor cites the official source and works from what the school has legitimately issued.

06

What a physics specialist costs from this community

Physics has fewer specialists than mathematics and fewer again at Higher Level, which shows up in both rate and availability. The sourced bands first, since three of the six most visible pages competing for these searches publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars.

Read the Dubai bands from the top down, because Higher Level physics is bought at the top. Bestimate places examination-year specialist support at AED 200 to 450 plus and TutorChase quotes AED 270, so a single weekly specialist hour across a twelve-week Living Legends term sits somewhere between AED 2,400 and AED 5,400. Premium named provision reaches AED 650 with BartyED. Below that, qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300 and Unitors publishes IB from AED 200. The floor is budget online provision at AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, which for a villa community set back from the main Dubailand arteries is the line where somebody else absorbs the journey instead of your evening.

For Higher Level physics the budget band is rarely the right purchase, because diagnosing a combined multi-topic loss or a maths-pairing problem requires somebody who has worked the syllabus. The sensible pattern is the qualified or specialist band for Diploma physics, with the budget band reserved for MYP science fluency where frequency matters more than depth.

The in-home premium deserves specific scrutiny in a gated community. A tutor booked for six who clears the gate at ten past has delivered fifty minutes of a paid hour, and across a school year at two sessions a week that is a serious quantity of teaching bought and not received. Monthly, four two-hour in-home sessions are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. None of these figures is an IB Gram price list, and the MoHRE private tutor permit is free of charge, so no licensing cost belongs in any quote.

07

Permits, regulators, dates and availability

Private tuition in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and takes applications through the smart app, website and e-services system. Those tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published.

There is a conduct rule worth knowing alongside it. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. That reporting is press-sourced rather than quoted from the policy text, so verify against the current ADEK document before relying on the exact wording.

On dates, this page publishes nothing it has not verified. IB candidates at UAE schools sit the May session; no specific IB examination or results date appears here, because ibo.org returns an error to automated verification and an unsourced date a family plans around is a genuine harm. Confirm with the school's coordinator. For Cambridge qualifications a sibling may be taking, the UAE series are June and November and the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with its November 2026 timetable running to 19 November 2026.

On availability, Standard Level physics matches quickly and Higher Level matches well but not instantly, with the contested half past five to seven weekday window usually the limiting factor rather than the subject. The narrowest request is a Higher Level specialist for a short-notice pre-session block, and where none is free we give a date rather than a near-fit. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval or accreditation and operates no UAE office, and specialists may be based in the UAE or elsewhere, including experienced IB teachers outside the Emirates.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Living Legends

These notes are about journeys and energy, since both determine when physics can usefully be taught.

Living Legends

Gated, compact, no secondary school inside. Every Diploma student commutes, so the first productive physics slot on a weekday is around six and the heavy work belongs to a weekend morning.

Dubai Sports City

Immediately next door and the source of most academy commitments here. Training from five to seven removes the weekday evening for many households, which pushes problem-solving work to the weekend by default.

Motor City

A short drive north with on-community schooling for the earlier years. MYP science sessions can run in the afternoon for students attending there, which is the easiest scheduling in this area.

Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills Estate

Where many Diploma students from here attend school, twenty to thirty minutes out. That journey is why a 5pm mechanics session reliably underperforms and a 6pm one does not.

Remraam and Mudon

Residential neighbours to the south serving the earlier years. Short distances with slow school-run timing, since the approach roads carry several communities at once.

Arabian Ranches and the Al Qudra corridor

Further west and south-west with IB provision that draws some families from this community. The longest journeys in the area, which makes a weekend-weighted plan close to essential.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Give the arrival time and the level

The hour the student is genuinely home and settled, and whether the course is Standard or Higher Level. Those two facts shape the plan, because physics tasks differ sharply in how much concentration they need and the windows available here are limited.

  2. 02

Name the maths route as well

Whether the student takes Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. For a Higher Level physics candidate that pairing predicts whether the difficulty will be physical or algebraic, which changes the first month of work.

  3. 03

Send a marked paper or a practical write-up

A marked paper shows whether the loss is method, units, diagrams, language or timing. A write-up shows whether uncertainty treatment is the gap, which is the most commonly missed and most recoverable area in the course.

  4. 04

Assign the windows before the sessions

Sharp window for problem solving and uncertainty work, moderate for consolidation, depleted for vocabulary and marked-paper review. Most families gain more from assigning windows correctly than from buying a third session.

  5. 05

    Protect the internal assessment early

One session testing the research question well before the school's deadline saves a term, and the drafting block belongs in a holiday or across weekend mornings. Families who leave it until it is urgent produce a rushed investigation.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Tasks matched to the energy available

Physics damage from a tired hour is uneven across the course: nuclear vocabulary survives it, multi-step mechanics does not. Sessions are planned around that rather than around a uniform weekly slot, which in a commuting household is the largest free improvement available.

The maths pairing diagnosed first

Higher Level physics assumes algebraic fluency that the Applications maths route de-emphasises. A student whose physics reasoning is sound and whose manipulation fails needs three or four algebra sessions, not a term of content revision.

Uncertainty taught as its own topic

Propagation, error bars, gradient uncertainty and significant-figure justification carry marks in the papers and in the internal assessment, and schools rarely have laboratory time to teach them properly. It is the most reliably recoverable block in the course.

The 20 per cent protected

The internal assessment is the first thing a commuting week drops, and most of its band is decided at the research-question stage. That is tested well before the school deadline rather than rescued at drafting, which is where most support arrives too late.

Nothing published without verification

The IB science syllabuses were revised recently and ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no examination date, results date or paper weighting appears here unverified. Dates and weightings come from the school's coordinator, and we say so.

No approval claimed and no promise made

No KHDA, ADEK, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, no UAE office, no grade promise, and no statistic without the number of students, the date and the method. The MoHRE private tutor permit is free of charge for two years.

There is no secondary school inside this community, so every Diploma student commutes to Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills or the Al Khail corridor. School finishes between half past two and half past three, the journey runs twenty to thirty minutes or longer by bus, and the student is home between four and half past four. Physics problem solving needs a sharp hour, which that chain does not leave on a weekday.

Which physics topics can survive a session after training?+

Nuclear and quantum physics work well, because they are heavier on precise vocabulary than on extended calculation. So does command-term practice with model answers, tidying definitions, and reviewing a marked paper, since the thinking is being guided rather than generated. What does not survive a depleted hour is multi-step mechanics, fields and electromagnetism problems, uncertainty propagation or a full timed paper. Knowing that distinction lets a family use the after-training slot productively instead of writing it off.

Why does my child find Higher Level physics harder than the physics itself?+

Often because the difficulty is algebraic rather than physical. Higher Level physics assumes comfortable rearrangement of relationships with several variables, confident handling of powers and reciprocals, and reasoning about proportionality rather than numbers. A student who can explain the physics verbally and whose written attempt breaks down at the manipulation has a maths gap, not a physics gap. Three or four sessions on rearrangement and proportional reasoning frequently moves more marks than a term of content revision.

Does the IB maths route affect Higher Level physics?+

Yes, more than families expect. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches emphasises exactly the algebraic fluency Higher Level physics assumes, while Applications and Interpretation emphasises statistical and modelling work, which is valuable and less directly aligned. A student taking Higher Level physics with Applications is not in difficulty, but they carry a gap the physics course will not close for them, and it surfaces first in the longer calculation questions. Check the pairing in the first Diploma year rather than the second.

What is the single best physics block to buy with a limited budget?+

Uncertainty and data analysis, if there is no diagnosis to guide the choice. It appears in the written papers, carries real weight in the internal assessment, is almost entirely procedural and is rarely taught as its own topic because school laboratory time goes on apparatus and procedure. The component skills are specific and quick: propagation through products and powers, error bars and gradient uncertainty, significant figures justified by the uncertainty, and distinguishing random from systematic error.

How is the physics internal assessment protected in a commuting week?+

By testing the research question well before the school's deadline and placing the drafting in a holiday or weekend block. The band is largely decided at the design stage: a question producing data with no measurable variation, or a variable range too narrow to show a trend, caps the mark however well the report is written. Four checks take one session, and they protect a term. Leaving the work until it is urgent reliably produces a rushed investigation and a disappointed student.

How are laboratory skills handled if the tutoring is online?+

By dividing the work honestly. The school runs the practical programme, with the equipment, the technician, the safety framework and the internal assessment arrangements. The tutor teaches the part assessed in writing: identifying variables precisely, criticising a method, reading scales, processing data, plotting with error bars, extracting a gradient and its uncertainty, and writing a specific evaluation. Those are taught better on a shared annotated screen than at a bench, and the most useful session is one processing the student's own school data.

Which physics topics cause the most trouble for students here?+

Electricity and fields, for different reasons. Circuits go wrong because students work from the formula sheet instead of redrawing the circuit, so potential dividers and internal resistance questions collapse. Fields and electromagnetic induction go wrong on sign conventions and direction rules, which are drillable rather than conceptual. Mechanics underlies everything and is taught first, so a weakness there resurfaces for two years. Waves cause trouble through imprecise language about phase, which is a vocabulary problem with a vocabulary fix.

My child came from Cambridge 0625 and the Diploma feels much harder. Normal?+

Entirely. The step is in mathematical fluency and in the expectation that an answer is reasoned in precise physical language rather than recalled. International GCSE rewards reliable recall and procedure; the Diploma asks for a visible chain of reasoning. A student who did well on recall finds the first Diploma term harder than their grade predicted. That transition term is where most ground is lost and where work is cheapest, because the second year has no room to rebuild a mechanics foundation.

What does an IB physics specialist cost from Living Legends?+

Market figures rather than ours. Qualified online subject tutors are quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB provision runs AED 200 to 450 and upward, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named provision reaches AED 650 with BartyED. Budget provision at AED 45 to 150 is rarely right for Higher Level physics. In-home visits are AED 180 to 500 including travel, and in a gated community they also lose minutes at the gate on every visit.

How many physics sessions a week make sense here?+

One well-placed long session plus one shorter weekday slot is the pattern that survives a full year, rather than three weekday evenings. Length serves problem solving and data work; frequency serves consolidation. In the final months before the session the frequency usually rises for technique drilling, where repetition matters more than session length. Three weekday evenings fails in this community because the journey home and the training calendar guarantee at least one of them collapses within a month.

Which exam session does a Living Legends physics candidate sit?+

IB candidates at UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no specific IB examination or results date, because ibo.org returns an error to automated verification and an unsourced date a family plans around is a real harm; confirm with the school's coordinator. For Cambridge qualifications a sibling may be taking, the UAE series are June and November, with the February and March series offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, its November 2026 timetable running to 19 November 2026.

Do you provide the IB physics data booklet or past papers?+

No. The data booklet, syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade boundary tables are the organisation's copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure in addition. A tutor cites the official source, works from material the school has legitimately issued to the student, and writes equivalent practice questions in the same style and at the same difficulty. A provider advertising a paper library has an unresolved copyright problem, and a family using it would be participating in that rather than benefiting.

How does Ramadan affect physics specifically?+

More than it affects content-light subjects, because physics needs concentration and school days shorten across the Emirates while energy moves to the evening. Sessions typically shift later, often after Iftar, and shorten while holding frequency. Heavy new content is better front-loaded before the month begins, with the Ramadan weeks used for consolidation, command-term work and discussion that tolerates a shorter attention span. Non-fasting students in the same household are affected too, since the shortened school day changes the whole week's rhythm.

Spend the sharp hour on the hard physics

An IB physics tutor in Living Legends is working inside a week that a long commute has already shortened, so the plan matters as much as the teaching. Identify your sharp window and give it the problem solving and the uncertainty work. Use the weekday slot for consolidation and the tired slot for vocabulary and marked-paper review. Check the maths pairing early, and protect the internal assessment before it becomes urgent. Then book a free trial lesson at the hour you actually intend to use, and judge it on whether the tutor names the loss pattern.
