IB & IGCSE in Living Legends

What chemistry support costs here, and what order to buy it in

Chemistry is one of the more expensive Diploma subjects to support, and the reason is supply rather than marketing. The number of teachers in Dubai who have taken IB Chemistry at Higher Level through to a final session recently is smaller than the number who teach science, because Higher Level cohorts at individual schools are often small. Scarcity sets the rate, and a family here should know that before comparing a chemistry quote with a mathematics one and concluding that somebody is overcharging.

The published bands put the market in perspective. Budget online provision runs AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB and A Level provision runs AED 200 to 450 and upward, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named provision reaches AED 650 with BartyED, and in-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel. None of those are our prices; each names who published it.

What matters more than the band is the order of purchase, because chemistry rewards sequencing unusually well. The subject divides into a quantitative foundation, a set of explanation strands where command terms decide the mark, an organic section that behaves like a procedural skill, and an internal assessment worth 20 per cent with a school deadline attached. Those four have different costs and very different returns, and buying them in the wrong order is how a family spends a year's budget and sees little movement.

There is also a local cost nobody itemises. Living Legends is a gated community of villas and apartment towers off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, between Dubai Sports City, Motor City and Remraam. A visiting tutor has to be registered at the gate, park and arrive through evening traffic on an arterial road. A booked hour that starts ten minutes late is a sixty-minute fee for fifty minutes of teaching, and at two sessions a week across a school year the arithmetic is not trivial.

IB Gram's position: lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so nothing in the fee pays for a journey and no minutes are lost at security. Home visits are a service we operate only in India, so nobody is sent to a Living Legends address. The first session is a free full-length trial with no card, used as a diagnostic rather than a sales meeting. Everything below sets out what each purchase costs and what it returns, in the order a family should buy them, so that a budget decided in September still looks sensible in March rather than having drifted into a standing monthly arrangement nobody reviewed.

At a glance

  • Chemistry specialists are scarcer than maths specialists, which sets the rate
  • Buy the quantitative foundation before the organic block, and both before revision
  • The internal assessment is 20 per cent with a school-set deadline attached
  • Gate access and traffic remove paid minutes from every in-home visit
  • Lessons are delivered over live video; nothing arrives at the address

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry reaches a student here at three stages, and the sensible spend differs at each.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Integrated sciences marked against four criteria on a 0-8 scale. The chemistry strands build the habits the Diploma assumes: balancing equations, reasoning about particles, and explaining rather than describing. The budget or lower qualified band is appropriate here, and specialist rates are premature.

Younger students from this community attend nearby schools in Motor City, Sports City and Remraam, with short journeys and usable afternoon time. Work at AED 240 to 600 a month on Bestimate's estimate is both affordable and effective at this stage, which is the cheapest intervention available to a family here.

DP-SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Chemistry Standard Level

The full conceptual range at reduced depth, with written papers and an internal assessment worth 20 per cent. Stoichiometry, energetics, equilibrium and organic chemistry carry the difficulty. The qualified band of AED 150 to 300 an hour is usually the right level, with the specialist band reserved for the final months.

Standard Level work is more tolerant of a shorter weekday session, which matters in a community where students commute and arrive home after four. That makes it the cheaper of the two levels to support properly, not just the easier one.

DP-HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Chemistry Higher Level

A considerably larger syllabus with extended organic chemistry, spectroscopic analysis, entropy and Gibbs free energy, plus quantitative equilibrium and kinetics. Confirm the current paper structure and weightings with the school's coordinator, since the IB science syllabuses were revised recently and no unverified figure belongs on a tutoring page.

Higher Level chemistry is a standard requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and chemical engineering applications, which is why families here commit real budget to it. It is also where the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and upward is genuinely justified rather than merely charged.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The International GCSE route in

Most students here arrive from Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1. The step up is in quantitative confidence and in the expectation that mechanisms are reasoned rather than recalled. A student who memorised reactions successfully at sixteen finds the Diploma asks why, repeatedly.

The first Diploma term is the cheapest point at which to close that gap. By the second year the syllabus leaves no space to rebuild stoichiometric fluency, and attempting it then displaces revision the student also needs, which effectively doubles the cost of the same work.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry divides into blocks with distinct failure patterns and distinct costs. These notes say what each block typically takes in sessions, which is how a budget should be built.

Stoichiometry and the mole

SL and HL

Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and gas calculations. The foundation everything quantitative rests on, so a gap here resurfaces in energetics, equilibrium and titration work. Four or five sessions, and the first thing to buy.

Atomic structure and periodicity

SL and HL, extended at HL

Electron configuration, ionisation energies and periodic trends. Marks are lost on trend explanations that name the trend without the cause. Compact and inexpensive: three or four sessions typically closes it.

Bonding and structure

SL and HL, extended at HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces and molecular shapes. Students confuse bond strength with intermolecular force strength when explaining boiling points, which is the most repeated error in the strand. Three or four sessions.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL and HL, extended at HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess cycles and bond enthalpies, with entropy and Gibbs free energy at Higher Level. Sign conventions are the reliable loss and they are a discipline problem, which makes this a cheap block: around three sessions.

Chemical kinetics

SL and HL, extended at HL

Rate, collision theory, catalysts, and rate laws and mechanisms at Higher Level. Candidates describe rate changes without reference to collision frequency or activation energy, which is what the explanation marks are for. Three or four sessions.

Equilibrium, acids and bases

SL and HL, extended at HL

Le Chatelier reasoning, equilibrium constants, pH, buffers and titration curves. The common error is applying Le Chatelier loosely to a catalyst or an inert gas addition. A larger block, five or six sessions, and high value.

Redox and electrochemistry

SL and HL, extended at HL

Oxidation states, half equations, electrolysis, and cell potentials at Higher Level. Half equations unbalanced for charge are the standard loss, and the fix is procedural practice. Three or four sessions.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

SL and HL, substantially extended at HL

Functional groups, reaction pathways, and at Higher Level nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition, mechanisms and spectroscopy. The largest block at six to eight sessions and the one where Higher Level grades are decided.

The internal assessment

SL and HL, 20 per cent of the grade

An individual investigation assessed against published criteria and moderated by the IB. Four to six sessions, front-loaded at the research-question stage, which is where most of the band is actually determined.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases, listed in the order they usually return the most. Buying them out of sequence is the commonest way to spend a chemistry budget without moving a grade.

Diagnostic, then the foundation block

Two or three sessions to establish where the marks are going, followed by the stoichiometry and mole work if that is the gap. Everything quantitative in the course rests on it, so closing it first makes every later block cheaper. Buying revision before this is how budgets disappear.

  • Level confirmed before the first paid session
  • Diagnosis from marked work, not from conversation
  • Written gap list ranked by mark weight
  • Defined block with a stated endpoint

The organic and mechanism block

Six to eight sessions concentrated on organic chemistry, which at Higher Level is where grades are decided. Mechanisms are taught as a procedure with explicit rules about where electrons come from, rather than as reactions to memorise, because the papers test application to unfamiliar molecules.

  • Curly-arrow conventions taught explicitly
  • Pathways built forwards and backwards from a target
  • Spectroscopic interpretation included at Higher Level
  • The highest-value single block at Higher Level

Internal assessment block

Four to six sessions around the school's own deadline, front-loaded at the research-question stage. The tutor tests whether the question produces data with measurable variation, teaches uncertainty treatment, and gives criterion feedback on the student's own draft. The investigation and the writing are the student's.

  • Research question tested before practical work begins
  • Uncertainty and significant figures taught as their own topic
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own text
  • Scheduled into a weekend or holiday window

01

Why chemistry costs more than mathematics to support

A family comparing quotes across subjects reasonably asks why chemistry sits higher. The answer is supply, and it is worth stating plainly rather than leaving as an impression that somebody is charging what they can get away with.

Mathematics is the best-supplied tutoring subject in Dubai. A great many people can teach it competently at Standard Level, and quite a few at Higher Level in both routes. Chemistry is thinner at every level and markedly thinner at Higher Level, because Higher Level cohorts at individual schools are often small. That means the number of teachers across the emirate who have taken the course through a final session recently is smaller than the number who teach science generally, and smaller again for those fluent in organic mechanisms and spectroscopy.

Scarcity does two things to price. It raises the floor, so the qualified band of AED 150 to 300 is where chemistry starts rather than where it peaks. And it compresses availability, so the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and upward is often the realistic option for Higher Level work rather than a premium upgrade. A family budgeting chemistry at mathematics rates will either not find a specialist or will end up with a generalist who cannot diagnose a mechanism loss.

The honest counterweight is that chemistry support converts efficiently when correctly sequenced, because the subject divides into blocks with identifiable failures and finite work attached. A well-chosen six-session organic block does more than a term of general revision, which means the higher hourly rate can still produce a lower total cost. The table below compares the subject bands with that in mind.

Three purchases, in the order that returns most

Chemistry budgets fail from sequencing more often than from rate. A family buys weekly general support in September, continues it until March, and finds the grade roughly where it started. The sessions were not wasted exactly, but they were spent on coverage when the student needed three specific things in a specific order.

First purchase: a diagnosis. Two or three sessions working from marked papers, identifying whether the loss is quantitative, conventional, linguistic or organic. This is cheap, fast and it determines everything after it. A family that skips it is paying a specialist to guess, which is the most expensive form of guessing available.

Second purchase: the foundation, if that is where the diagnosis points. Stoichiometry and the mole underpin energetics, equilibrium, titration work and much of organic analysis, so a gap there resurfaces everywhere and makes every later block slower. Four or five sessions closes it in most cases. Students and parents resist this because it feels like going backwards, and it is the single highest-return block in the course.

Third purchase: organic chemistry, which at Higher Level is where the grade is decided. Six to eight sessions taught as a procedure rather than a memory task. Only after those three does general revision earn its rate, and by then the student needs much less of it, which is the point: correct sequencing reduces the total number of hours rather than merely rearranging them. The table below prices the sequence using the published bands.

What the organic block actually buys

Of all the chemistry purchases available, the organic block is the one most worth understanding before paying for it, because it is the largest and the most frequently mis-taught. At Higher Level organic chemistry carries a disproportionate share of both content and difficulty, and it behaves unlike the rest of the course.

The mistake students make is treating it as material to memorise. There are too many reactions, and the papers do not ask for recall; they ask candidates to apply a mechanism to a molecule they have not seen before. What a student needs instead is a small set of rules about where electrons come from and where they go, drilled on unfamiliar substrates until the pattern is automatic. Nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and carbonyl behaviour all follow from the same handful of ideas.

Marks are then lost in the drawing rather than the thinking, which is why this block converts so reliably. Arrows that start from an atom rather than from a bond or a lone pair. Charges omitted from intermediates. A mechanism chemically correct and incompletely annotated. These are conventions, and conventions can be taught in a defined number of sessions, which is what makes a six-to-eight session block a purchase with a predictable return rather than an open-ended commitment.

The second half of the Higher Level organic challenge is synthesis and spectroscopy: building a route to a target molecule and interpreting spectra to identify a structure. Both reward working backwards from the answer, a technique students rarely discover alone. A tutor who teaches that habit changes how a student reads the entire paper, not only the organic questions, which is why this block often improves performance in strands nobody targeted.

04

The costs a gated community adds and nobody quotes

Any in-home quote for Living Legends carries costs that do not appear in the hourly figure, and a family comparing options should add them in. A visiting tutor must clear a gate, which depending on the arrangement means pre-registration by the household, being met, collecting a pass, or waiting while security confirms. Then parking. Then locating the villa or tower entrance in a community arranged around a golf course.

The direct cost is teaching minutes. A session booked for six that begins at ten past has delivered fifty minutes against a sixty-minute fee. At two sessions a week across roughly thirty-six school weeks, consistent ten-minute losses come to about twelve hours of tuition paid for and not received. At the in-home band of AED 180 to 500 an hour that is a substantial figure, and it arrives in pieces small enough that most families never total it.

The indirect costs are reliability and choice. A specialist delayed on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at twenty past has effectively halved a session, and that recurs often enough to erode an arrangement by the second term. Meanwhile the pool of chemistry specialists willing to make this journey twice a week at the contested evening hour is very small, so a family chooses from fewer people and pays the top of the band to those who agree.

Set against that, in-home has a legitimate case for some students: a child under roughly Year 5, or a student with significant attention difficulties, for whom physical presence does real work. A Diploma chemistry student working through mechanisms and spectra on a screen is not in that category. IB Gram does not sell UAE home visits at all, so this is reported as the market rather than offered; the service exists only in India.

Budgeting chemistry across two Diploma years

Families want a total, and the honest way to build one is to price the blocks rather than multiply a monthly figure by twenty-four months. Chemistry suits that approach because the blocks are discrete and finite, which is unusual among Diploma subjects and should be used.

Bestimate's Dubai monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session give the reference points: AED 240 to 600 for budget provision, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward for specialist examination-year support. Market packages include roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. For a two-year Diploma those monthly figures compound quickly if left as a standing arrangement.

A block-based plan looks different and usually costs less. A diagnosis and a foundation block in the first year. An organic block in the second. An internal assessment block placed around the school's deadline, ideally inside a holiday. A pre-session technique run in the final months. Between those, nothing, or a lighter weekly slot if the student benefits from the rhythm. That plan has gaps in it on purpose, and the gaps are where the student consolidates independently, which is the part that actually produces the grade.

A standing weekly arrangement across both Diploma years is the right choice in one situation: where a student needs the external structure to work at all. That is a legitimate reason and it should be chosen deliberately rather than drifted into. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the following academic year, which makes tuition the variable line in a household education budget and worth deciding on purpose.

Where chemistry money is wasted in this community

Four patterns recur, and all four are avoidable with information a family already has or can obtain free. None of them is about being overcharged per hour.

The first is buying general revision before a diagnosis. It is the default purchase in this market, it bills monthly, and it converts slowly because most of the hours address content the student already holds. The second is paying the in-home premium for a Diploma student, which in a gated community buys a journey, a gate wait and a reduced choice of specialist.

The third is buying the organic block before the foundation. Organic chemistry at Higher Level leans on quantitative confidence and on comfort with structure and bonding, so a student without secure stoichiometry struggles through an expensive block that would have been straightforward two months later. The fourth is leaving the internal assessment until the drafting stage, by which point the research question is fixed and most of the band is already determined.

There is a fifth that is specific to high-stakes subjects. Paying a premium for claimed examiner status without evidence. We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners where current status cannot be evidenced, and any suggestion that examiner status grants access to marking, boundaries or paper content should end a conversation rather than justify a higher rate. What genuinely predicts usefulness is recent experience of teaching the course at the student's level, which costs nothing to ask about and can be checked in a single conversation before any money changes hands.

07

What no chemistry budget can buy

A page about cost should state where money stops working, because the alternative implies that spending and outcome are the same variable.

No provider can promise a grade, at any band. Grades depend on the work the student does between sessions, on what a particular session's papers ask, and on where boundaries fall, and nobody selling tuition controls any of those. We publish no grade promise, no improvement promise and no refund tied to an outcome. We publish no satisfaction or results statistic either, because a figure without the number of students, the date and the method is not evidence, and most such figures in this market carry none of the three.

No budget buys assessed work, and this matters more in chemistry than almost anywhere because the internal assessment is a fifth of the grade. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments for a four-figure sum. That is an IB malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the student, whose diploma can be withheld. A tutor may test a research question, explain criteria, teach uncertainty treatment and graphing, read a draft the student wrote and show where it loses marks, and model an analysis on different data. A tutor must never conduct the investigation or write the report.

No budget buys board material either. IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, data booklets and grade boundary tables are the organisation's copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well. A tutor cites the official source, works from what the school has legitimately issued, and writes equivalent practice. And no amount of tutoring is required for Ministry of Education equivalency, for a university place or for school progression; any page implying otherwise is manufacturing pressure around a regulatory process.

08

Permits, regulators and honest availability

One cost should be zero and occasionally is not. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and takes applications through the smart app, website and e-services system. A licensing line item in any quote is charging for something free.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any amount quoted anywhere is unverified. There is also a conduct rule worth knowing: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tuition of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct does likewise. That reporting is press-sourced, so verify against the current ADEK document.

School regulation sits with the emirate. Dubai is KHDA, which oversees the quality of private education and inspects on six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, both approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from any of them, nor from the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE.

On availability, Standard Level chemistry matches quickly and Higher Level matches well but not instantly. The narrowest request is a Higher Level organic specialist for a short-notice pre-session block, and where none is free we give a date rather than putting a near-fit in front of a final-year student. No competitor in the clusters researched for this project discloses a coverage limit anywhere. Specialists may be based in the UAE or elsewhere, including experienced IB teachers outside the Emirates, and nobody is sent to a UAE address.

Where a family lives affects what a visiting tutor charges and how much of the paid hour reaches the student. These notes are about those costs around Living Legends.

Living Legends

Gated, compact and off an arterial road, with no secondary school inside. Visiting quotes carry a full travel premium and lose minutes at the gate, which makes the online band the relevant comparison for a Diploma student.

Dubai Sports City

Immediately adjacent and the nearest dense cluster, where visiting tutors price more competitively. Academy training occupies the early evening for many households, and a weekend visit commands the top of the in-home band.

Motor City

A short drive north with the closest genuine independent tutor market. Chemistry specialists remain thin there, because Higher Level scarcity is city-wide rather than a feature of any one neighbourhood.

Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills Estate

Where many Diploma students from here attend school, twenty to thirty minutes out. That commute pushes the first usable weekday slot to around six, which is also the most contested hour in the city.

Remraam and Mudon

Residential neighbours serving the earlier years, where MYP science work concentrates and the budget band is appropriate. Short distances with slow school-run timing on shared approach roads.

Arabian Ranches and the Al Qudra corridor

Further west and south-west with a broader established tutor market and IB provision. Far enough that a visiting specialist from there prices a substantial journey into every session.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

State the level and the degree plan

Higher or Standard, and whether a medicine, dentistry or engineering application sits behind the choice. That second answer changes how strictly the internal assessment and the organic block have to be treated, and therefore what the budget needs to cover.

  2. 02

Buy the diagnosis before anything else

Two or three sessions from marked work, producing a named loss pattern and a ranked gap list. It is the cheapest purchase on this page and it determines whether the money goes to the foundation, the organic block or technique.

  3. 03

Close the foundation before the organic block

Stoichiometry underpins energetics, equilibrium and much of organic analysis, so paying for mechanisms while moles are shaky makes an expensive block harder than it needs to be. Four or five sessions first usually shortens everything after it.

  4. 04

    Front-load the internal assessment

One session testing the research question well before the school's deadline protects a term of work, because the band is largely decided at the design stage. Place the drafting in a weekend or holiday window where uninterrupted hours exist.

  5. 05

Keep the pre-session run short and late

Technique and timing work is most valuable in the final weeks and least valuable as a year-long arrangement. Two or three sessions a week for a defined period beats a standing weekly slot stretched across both Diploma years.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Purchases sequenced by return

Diagnosis, then foundation, then organic, then technique. Chemistry divides into discrete blocks with finite work attached, which makes sequencing possible and makes a block plan cheaper than a standing weekly arrangement across two years.

Every figure attributed

Each AED band names who published it and when it was gathered. Three of the six most visible pages competing for these searches publish no price at all, and one asks the price question in its own FAQ list before declining to answer it.

The gated-community cost itemised

An in-home hour here loses minutes at the gate and to arterial traffic on top of the rate premium. Across a school year at two sessions a week that is roughly twelve hours of tuition paid for and not received, which almost no family adds up.

Scarcity explained rather than exploited

Chemistry sits above mathematics in this market because Higher Level cohorts are small city-wide and the specialist pool is correspondingly thin. Saying so lets a family judge whether a quote is normal instead of assuming they are being overcharged.

No examiner claim without evidence

We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners where current status cannot be evidenced, and examiner status does not grant access to marking, boundaries or paper content. Paying a premium for an unevidenced claim is a pure loss.

No promises, no borrowed authority

No grade promise, no refund tied to an outcome, no statistic without the number of students, the date and the method, and no claim of KHDA, ADEK, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval. The MoHRE private tutor permit is free of charge.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Living Legends: your questions answered

Why does an IB chemistry tutor cost more than a maths tutor in Dubai?+

Supply rather than marketing. Mathematics is the best-supplied tutoring subject here, with many competent teachers at Standard Level and a reasonable number at Higher Level. Chemistry is thinner at every level and markedly thinner at Higher Level, because Higher Level cohorts at individual schools are often small, so the pool of teachers who have taken the course through a final session recently is small city-wide. Scarcity raises the floor, which is why the qualified band of AED 150 to 300 is where chemistry starts rather than peaks.

What should a Living Legends family buy first for chemistry?+

A diagnosis, and it is the cheapest purchase available. Two or three sessions working from marked papers establishes whether the loss is quantitative, conventional, linguistic or organic, and that answer determines everything after it. Buying general weekly revision first is the default in this market and converts slowly, because most of the hours address content the student already holds. A family that skips the diagnosis is paying a specialist rate for guesswork, which is the most expensive form of guessing on offer.

How much is the organic chemistry block likely to cost?+

Six to eight sessions is the usual size, at the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and upward per hour for Higher Level work, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate putting examination-year specialist support at AED 200 to 450 plus. It is the largest single chemistry purchase and the most reliable, because mechanisms are a procedural skill taught through explicit rules about where electrons come from, and the marks lost are drawing conventions rather than understanding. It also improves performance in strands nobody targeted.

Is stoichiometry worth paying for if it feels like going backwards?+

It is the highest-return block in the course. Moles, concentration, limiting reagents and gas calculations underpin energetics, equilibrium, titration work and much of organic analysis, so a weakness there resurfaces everywhere and makes every later block slower and therefore more expensive. Four or five sessions closes it in most cases. Students and parents resist it because it looks like revisiting earlier material, and skipping it is why expensive organic blocks sometimes disappoint.

What does an in-home chemistry visit really cost in a gated community?+

More than the quoted rate. In-home tuition is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and on top of that premium the gate and the arterial road remove minutes. A session booked for six that starts at ten past is a sixty-minute fee for fifty minutes. At two sessions a week across thirty-six school weeks, consistent losses of that size approach twelve hours of tuition bought and not received.

How should we budget chemistry across both Diploma years?+

By pricing blocks rather than multiplying a monthly figure by twenty-four. A diagnosis and a foundation block in the first year, an organic block in the second, an internal assessment block around the school's deadline, and a short pre-session technique run. Between those, gaps on purpose, because that is where the student consolidates independently. Bestimate's monthly reference points are AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward for specialist examination-year support, which compounds fast if left standing.

Is a weekly chemistry slot across two years ever the right choice?+

Yes, in one situation: where a student needs external structure to work at all. That is a legitimate reason and it should be chosen deliberately rather than drifted into, because the cost across two Diploma years is substantial. For a student who works independently between sessions, a block plan achieves more for less, since chemistry divides cleanly into discrete pieces with finite work attached. The honest test is whether work actually happens in the gaps.

Should we pay more for a tutor who says they are an IB examiner?+

Only with evidence of current status, and not at all if the claim implies inside access. Examiner status does not grant access to marking, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content, and anybody suggesting otherwise is making a claim that should end the conversation rather than justify a premium. We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners where current status cannot be evidenced. What genuinely predicts usefulness is recent experience of teaching the course at the student's level, which is checkable.

How much of the chemistry grade is the internal assessment worth?+

Twenty per cent in all IB science courses, with the written papers carrying the remaining 80 per cent. The exact number of papers and the split between them should be confirmed with the school's coordinator, since the IB science syllabuses were revised recently and no unverified figure belongs on a tutoring page. Practically, that 20 per cent has a fixed school deadline and is the part a student most directly controls, which is why it deserves budget earlier than most families allocate it.

When is internal assessment support worth paying for?+

At the research-question stage, well before drafting. Most of the band is decided by whether the question produces data with measurable variation and whether the uncertainty will swamp the effect being measured. One session testing that protects a term of work. Support bought at the drafting stage, which is when most families think of it, arrives after the decisive choice has been made. Four to six sessions placed around the school's deadline, ideally inside a holiday, is the usual shape.

Will any provider refund us if the chemistry grade does not improve?+

No reputable one should offer that, and we do not. A refund tied to an outcome is a promise with no mechanism, because grades depend on the work done between sessions, on what the papers ask and on where boundaries fall. What protects a family's money instead is a free full-length trial lesson with no card, a per-session arrangement rather than a locked package, and a written diagnostic to measure progress against. Those are checkable commitments rather than claims.

Does Higher Level chemistry justify the specialist rate for medicine applications?+

For most families aiming at medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or chemical engineering, yes, because Higher Level chemistry is a standard requirement and the grade usually needs to be specific. What a tutoring page should not do is state a threshold for any particular university, because those vary and change; check published entry requirements directly in the first Diploma year. The budget conclusion is that the organic block and the internal assessment are the two purchases least worth economising on in that situation.

Will the fee include past papers and the data booklet?+

No, because those are not ours to supply. The IB data booklet, syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade boundary tables are the organisation's copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well. A tutor cites the official source, works from material the school has legitimately issued to the student, and writes equivalent practice questions in the same style and at the same difficulty. A provider advertising a paper library is offering an unresolved problem rather than value.

How quickly can a Higher Level chemistry specialist be booked from here?+

Standard Level matches quickly and Higher Level matches well but not instantly, with the contested half past five to seven weekday window usually the limiting factor rather than the subject. Shifting twenty minutes later or taking a weekend morning normally resolves it. The narrowest request in this subject is a Higher Level organic specialist for a short-notice pre-session block, and where none is genuinely free we give a date rather than putting a near-fit in front of a final-year Diploma student.

Sequence the spending, not just the sessions

An IB chemistry tutor in Living Legends costs more than a maths tutor because the specialist pool is genuinely thinner, and the way to keep the total down is sequencing rather than bargaining. Buy a diagnosis, close the stoichiometry foundation, then buy the organic block, and front-load the internal assessment at the research-question stage. Keep technique work short and late. Book a free full-length trial lesson, send a marked paper first, and judge the hour on whether the tutor can name the loss pattern by the end of it.
