IB Maths Tutor in Living Legends

An IB maths tutor in Living Legends is working against a long commute and a full evening, and mathematics is the Diploma subject least tolerant of a depleted hour. There is no secondary school inside this community, so arrival home is late. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, which lets the session sit in the best hour of the week rather than the only one left.

  • Sessions placed in the window the work actually needs
  • Matched to AA or AI and to Higher or Standard Level
  • Exploration work scheduled around the school's own deadline

IB & IGCSE in Living Legends

Mathematics needs the best hour, and here the best hour is late

Most Diploma subjects survive a tired session. Mathematics does not. A calculus question requires the student to choose a method, carry it through several steps, and check whether the result makes sense, all without losing the thread. A student who walked in from a twenty-five minute journey fifteen minutes ago cannot do that, and the hour becomes a pleasant conversation about mathematics rather than an hour of doing it. In this community that is the first problem to solve, before any question of who teaches it.

Living Legends is a single gated community of villas and apartment towers off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, between Dubai Sports City, Motor City and Remraam, with no secondary school inside the gates. Every Diploma student therefore commutes, most often to Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills Estate or the Al Khail Road corridor. School finishes between half past two and half past three, the journey takes twenty to thirty minutes in free traffic and longer on a multi-community bus route, and the student is home between four and half past four. Add time to eat and settle and the first genuinely usable slot is around six.

The second constraint is what the evening already contains. Dubai Sports City sits immediately next door, and many households here have children in academy programmes training between five and seven on several weekdays. Where that applies, the weekday evening is effectively gone for mathematics, and the weekend morning becomes the serious slot. There is also the taught week to account for: Dubai private schools must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies alongside the licensed curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, so the homework load is larger than a six-subject list suggests.

The third constraint is the subject itself, and it is the one families underestimate. IB Mathematics is four courses, not one: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher and Standard Level, with different syllabuses, different papers and different rules about what a calculator is for. Those four do not place equal demands on a student's concentration. A non-calculator Analysis paper needs a sharp hour; interpretation work in Applications can survive a later one. Knowing which course is involved therefore changes the timetable as well as the teaching.

IB Gram's answer is to take travel out of the arrangement so the hour can be chosen rather than inherited. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so a session can start minutes after the student is home, move to a Saturday morning for the harder work, and be matched on course and level rather than on who will drive to a gated community. Nobody is sent to a Living Legends address; home visits are a service we operate only in India.

At a glance

  • Mathematics punishes a depleted session harder than any other Diploma subject
  • Every Diploma student here commutes; arrival is commonly after four
  • AA and AI at HL and SL place different demands on concentration
  • The exploration is 20 per cent of the grade in all four courses
  • Lessons are delivered over live video, never at a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages of IB mathematics matter in this community, plus the route most students arrive from. These notes describe what each stage asks of the student's time as well as their ability.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Mathematics, standard and extended

Marked against four criteria on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Extended mathematics in MYP 4 and 5 is the preparation route for Analysis and Approaches. Investigating patterns is the criterion students neglect, and it is the direct ancestor of the Diploma exploration.

Younger students from this community attend nearby schools in Motor City, Sports City and Remraam, so journeys are short and afternoon sessions are realistic. That makes MYP mathematics the one stage where timing in Living Legends is straightforward rather than negotiated.

DP-AAAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

The algebraic route. One paper is sat without a graphical calculator, which rewards manipulation and penalises reliance on technology. Higher Level adds a third paper of extended problem solving and reaches calculus techniques Standard Level never meets, along with proof by induction and complex numbers.

This is the route most engineering, physics and mathematics applicants need, and the one that demands the sharpest hour of the week. For a commuting student here that argues for a weekend morning as the main session rather than a weekday evening after a long journey.

DP-AIAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

The statistical and modelling route, with a graphical calculator permitted throughout. Higher Level adds a third paper and a heavier load of statistical inference, matrices and graph theory. Marks go missing where a correct calculation is never translated back into the context the question established.

Applications tolerates a later weekday slot better than Analysis, because much of the work is interpretation rather than construction. That makes it the more schedulable of the two routes in a household with academy training in the early evening.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The International GCSE route in

Most students here enter the Diploma from Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 rather than from the MYP. An Extended or Higher tier grade is broadly the expected foundation for Analysis and Approaches; a strong Core or Foundation result points toward Applications. The step up is in abstraction rather than content.

The transition term is where most ground is lost, because the school is teaching new content while the student is still adjusting to being marked on reasoning rather than answers. Work in that first term is cheaper and more effective than remediation in the second Diploma year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is best planned strand by strand, because each strand needs a different amount of concentration and therefore a different slot. These are the strands students here most often need rebuilt.

Number and algebra

AA and AI, HL and SL

Sequences, series, exponents and logarithms, with complex numbers and proof by induction at Higher Level in Analysis. Losses are algebraic slips under time pressure rather than conceptual gaps, which responds to short drilled sessions and suits a weekday slot.

Functions

AA and AI, HL and SL

Transformations, composite and inverse functions, rational and reciprocal forms. Marks go missing on sketches drawn without the asymptotes and intercepts the markscheme wants, which is a checklist habit and quick to fix.

Geometry and trigonometry

AA and AI, HL and SL

Identities and equations, with substantial coordinate work in Applications. Trigonometric equations lose marks on mishandled solution ranges. In Analysis Higher Level the identity manipulation is where candidates stall and lose time.

Statistics and probability

AA and AI, HL and SL

Light in Analysis and central in Applications: distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression. The final interpreting sentence is where the marks sit, and omitting it is the standard loss across both levels.

Calculus

AA and AI, HL and SL

Differentiation and integration, reaching substitution, parts, implicit differentiation and differential equations in Analysis Higher Level. The strand that most needs a long, undisturbed session, which in this community means a weekend morning.

Proof and mathematical communication

AA HL in particular

Induction, contradiction and counterexample, plus the discipline of setting out an argument. Students who reach correct results and cannot write them as an argument lose marks on material they genuinely understand.

Paper 3 technique

HL only, both routes

Two long investigative questions where each part depends on the last, so a candidate who stalls early forfeits everything downstream. Needs full-length practice, which rules out a 45-minute weekday slot entirely.

The mathematical exploration

All four courses, 20 per cent

Individual mathematical writing assessed on presentation, communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. The band is largely decided by whether the topic can carry mathematics of appropriate depth for the level.

Graphical calculator fluency

AI throughout; AA Papers 2 and 3

Statistical functions, solvers, regression and graphing. Applications candidates lose time rather than understanding when operation is slow, and this is among the fastest returns available in the whole course.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by which mathematical task needs doing. Mathematics rewards the right hour more reliably than it rewards extra hours.

Short weekday consolidation

Forty-five to sixty minutes after the real arrival time, used to hold the topic the school taught this fortnight. Worked examples, a handful of questions, a check on understanding. Reliable and short beats long and negotiable in a commuting household, because a slot that moves twice a month produces nothing.

  • Fixed hour weekly, set from arrival rather than the school bell
  • Route and level confirmed before the first paid session
  • Problem sets sized for a school night
  • Short written note to the parent after each session

Weekend problem block

Ninety minutes or more for the work that needs a sustained chain of reasoning: calculus, Higher Level Paper 3 practice, full timed papers, exploration analysis. For households with academy training next door this is often the only genuinely free hour, and for mathematics it is also the most productive one.

  • Long enough for a full paper and a proper review
  • Suited to calculus, proof and Paper 3 strategy
  • Can absorb two weak weekday slots when term is busy
  • No travel and no gate for anyone

Exploration block

Four to six sessions placed around the school's own internal deadline, ideally inside a school holiday. The tutor tests whether the topic carries mathematics of adequate depth for the level, explains the criteria, and gives feedback on the student's own draft. The student writes every word of it.

  • Topic viability tested before any drafting begins
  • Depth checked against the level, not just the course
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own text
  • Timed to the school deadline, not a generic calendar

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Living Legends

01

Which maths task belongs in which window

A commuting Diploma household in this community has perhaps three usable study windows a week after travel, training, mandatory subjects and homework. Mathematics is the subject where assigning those windows correctly produces the largest gain, because the difference between a sharp hour and a tired one is larger here than in any other Diploma subject.

The short weekday window handles consolidation. The school has taught a topic; the student works a few questions, sees a worked example, and has a misunderstanding corrected before it sets. That is genuinely valuable and it fits forty-five minutes after arrival. What it cannot do is build method communication on long questions or develop the stamina a Higher Level third paper requires, because both need a chain of reasoning longer than the slot.

The weekend morning window handles everything that decides grades at the margin: calculus problems with several stages, Paper 3 practice at full length, timed papers followed by a proper review of where the marks went, and exploration analysis with the student's own data on screen. Families who assign these to a weekday evening get a watered-down version of each and then wonder why progress stalled.

The third window is the school holiday, and it is the most underused asset in a Diploma year. The winter and spring breaks are the only periods with free daytime hours, and they fall at useful points relative to internal deadlines. A short intensive block then, particularly on the exploration, converts better than the same hours spread across term-time evenings. Families who travel can keep sessions running from wherever they are, which follows from lessons being delivered over video.

Four courses, and which of them survives a late slot

IB Mathematics is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher and Standard Level. Those four are separate courses with separate syllabuses, separate papers and separate calculator rules, and a tutor who does not establish which one applies in the first conversation is planning for somebody else's child. That much is true anywhere. What is specific to a commuting household is that the four do not place equal demands on a depleted hour.

Analysis and Approaches is the least forgiving. One paper is sat without a graphical calculator, which rewards algebraic fluency, and Higher Level adds proof and extended calculus. This is construction work: the student has to build something rather than interpret it, and construction needs a sharp mind. For a student in this community, Analysis belongs in the weekend window as the primary session, with weekday slots used for consolidation.

Applications and Interpretation is more schedulable. A calculator is permitted throughout, much of the work is interpreting a context and writing a conclusion, and statistical procedures are repeatable in a way that proof is not. A student who is tired can still practise reading a regression output and writing the sentence that explains it, which means a weekday evening session retains most of its value.

The level then multiplies the effect. Higher Level in either route adds a third paper of extended investigation, and that paper cannot be practised in fragments because each part depends on the previous one. Any Higher Level plan in this community therefore needs at least one long window a week, and families who only have weekday evenings should know that before committing rather than discovering it in the second term.

The non-calculator paper, and the practice it actually needs

Analysis and Approaches candidates sit one paper without a graphical calculator, and it is the paper that most reliably surprises students who have been taught with technology in the room. The difficulty is not conceptual. It is that habits built around checking a graph on a screen do not transfer, and a student who has always verified a solution visually has to learn to verify it algebraically instead.

The practice that works is specific and it is not simply doing more questions. It is short, frequent, timed sets with the calculator physically unavailable, where the student is required to show every manipulation. Exact values are the recurring theme: surds left as surds, trigonometric values given exactly rather than as decimals, logarithmic expressions simplified rather than evaluated. A student who writes 1.41 where the markscheme wants root two has given away a mark on a question they answered correctly.

There is a second habit to build, which is sanity checking without technology. Does this answer have the right sign? Is this magnitude plausible? Does the function behave as the algebra implies at the extremes? Students with a graphical calculator develop this instinct through the screen and lose access to it in the examination. It can be taught deliberately, and it is one of the better uses of a short weekday slot because it needs frequency rather than length.

Applications and Interpretation candidates have the mirror-image problem. A calculator is available throughout and they are expected to use it fluently, so marks are lost to slow or incorrect operation rather than to mathematical error. Statistical functions, regression, solvers and graphing all have to be automatic, and that is drillable in a small number of sessions. It is also, for a tired student at the end of a long day, one of the few genuinely productive things a weekday evening can deliver.

04

The exploration calendar, and why it belongs in a holiday

Every IB mathematics course carries an exploration worth 20 per cent of the grade, and the band is largely determined by the choice of topic rather than by the quality of the writing. A topic that cannot support mathematics of appropriate depth for the level produces a capped mark however carefully it is presented. That decision is made weeks before any drafting, which is why support concentrated at the drafting stage arrives too late to change much.

The timing problem in this community is acute. The school's internal deadline sits months before the board's window, and it falls in a term already crowded with subject deadlines. A student commuting an hour a day does not have spare weekday evenings in that period, and the exploration is the piece of work with no weekly lesson defending its place in the timetable. So it gets postponed until it is urgent, and then it is written in a rush.

The practical answer is to place the exploration block in a school holiday or across weekend mornings, and to do the topic testing early. One session well before the deadline, examining whether the proposed investigation has adequate mathematical depth for the level, a wide enough variable range, and an analysis that will support a meaningful conclusion, protects a term of work. Depth expectations differ between Higher and Standard Level in the same route, which is why the level has to be confirmed before anybody approves a topic.

The boundary is absolute. A tutor may test a topic, explain what each criterion rewards, read a draft the student has written and identify where it is losing marks, demonstrate a technique on different material, and teach notation and referencing properly. A tutor must never write the exploration, draft sections of it, or edit it until the mathematics is no longer the student's own. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments; that is an IB malpractice trigger and the penalty falls on the student.

05

Where maths marks go, and how long each fix takes

Diagnosis in mathematics is unusually tractable because the losses are visible on marked paper. A tutor who has seen one past paper with a mark breakdown can usually name the problem before the first session; a tutor who has not is offering general revision because that is the only plan available without evidence. General revision is also the slowest-converting and most expensive product in this market.

Four patterns account for most losses. Method not communicated, where a correct final answer with no intermediate steps collects a fraction of the available credit, and which is the largest avoidable loss in Analysis at both levels. Result not interpreted, where an Applications candidate computes correctly and never writes the sentence that explains what the number means in context. Calculator inefficiency, where an Applications candidate loses time rather than understanding. And Paper 3 collapse at Higher Level, where a candidate who stalls on an early part forfeits everything downstream.

A fifth is foundational rather than habitual: a student who never secured negative and fractional indices, or algebraic fraction manipulation, has a gap that touches every later topic. That is a term of work rather than a fortnight, and an honest diagnostic distinguishes it from the habit-level problems rather than treating everything as the same job.

The practical point for a family here is that the habit-level fixes are fast and the foundational one is not, so the diagnosis changes the plan and the budget. The table below sets out each pattern with the window it needs, because in a commuting household the fix and the slot have to be decided together.

06

What IB maths support costs around this community

Mathematics is the best-supplied subject in this market, which gives a family more choice and more scope to misjudge value. The sourced bands first, since three of the six most visible pages competing for these searches publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars.

Budget online provision runs AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB and A Level provision runs AED 200 to 450 and upward, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate putting examination-year specialist support at AED 200 to 450 plus. Premium named provision reaches AED 650 with BartyED. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel.

In mathematics specifically, the match matters more than the band. A tutor at AED 150 who has taught Applications Standard Level repeatedly is better value for an Applications student than one at AED 400 whose recent experience is all Analysis Higher Level, and the reverse holds just as firmly. Because there are four distinct courses, asking which of them a tutor last taught is worth more than comparing two numbers.

For budgeting, Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session give AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward for specialist examination-year support. Packages circulate at roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. In a gated community the in-home figure also loses minutes at the gate on every visit. None of these is an IB Gram price list, and the MoHRE private tutor permit is free of charge, so no licensing cost belongs in any quote.

07

Permits, regulators and what may honestly be claimed

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit and the detail is short. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and takes applications through the smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting an amount is speculating. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai is a separate matter, requiring a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry.

School regulation sits with the emirate. Dubai is KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education and inspects on six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, both of which approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education.

What none of that licenses is a claim of endorsement. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE. We publish no IB examination or results date, because ibo.org returns an error to automated verification; IB candidates at UAE schools sit the May session and specific dates should come from the school's coordinator. We also do not reproduce IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables, which are the organisation's copyright.

08

When the window you have is not the window available

Honest availability is part of planning rather than a disclaimer. In this community the constraint is almost always the hour. Half past five to seven on a weekday is what nearly every family in Dubai asks for, and weekend mornings are the second most contested slot, particularly among households whose weekday evenings are taken by training.

Three adjustments usually solve it. Shifting a weekday session fifteen or twenty minutes later opens options a 5.30pm request does not. Moving the main session to a Saturday rather than a Friday morning, or vice versa, often finds the specialist with space. And taking a less contested weekday, typically Sunday or Monday, resolves it immediately in many cases. For a Higher Level student needing one long window a week, booking that window early in the school year is worth more than negotiating it in February.

Where the request is narrow the answer may be a wait. Analysis Higher Level with Paper 3 specialism at short notice is the tightest mathematics request in this market, because Higher Level cohorts at individual schools are small and the pool of teachers who have taken the course to a final session recently is correspondingly thin across the whole emirate. In that case we give a date rather than offering an Applications specialist to an Analysis candidate.

No competitor in the clusters researched for this project discloses a coverage limit anywhere, which is why families keep finding one in week three. Ours is stated alongside the delivery position: lessons run over live video, specialists may be based in the UAE or elsewhere including experienced IB teachers outside the Emirates, and nobody is sent to a UAE address because home visits exist only in our India service.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Living Legends

These notes are about the clock. Each neighbouring area changes the journey, the traffic and therefore the hour a maths session can occupy.

Living Legends

Gated, compact, no secondary school inside. Every Diploma student travels, which puts the first usable maths slot at around six on a weekday and makes the weekend morning the natural home for calculus and Paper 3 work.

Dubai Sports City

Immediately adjacent and the source of most academy commitments here. Training from five to seven removes the weekday evening for many households, which pushes mathematics to the weekend by default.

Motor City

A short drive north with on-community schooling for younger years. MYP mathematics sessions can run in the afternoon for students attending there, which is unusual in this area and worth using.

Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills Estate

Where many Diploma students from this community attend school, twenty to thirty minutes out. That journey is the reason an early-evening Analysis session rarely produces anything useful.

Remraam and Mudon

Residential neighbours to the south with provision for the earlier years. Short distances and slow school-run timing, since the same approach roads serve several communities at once.

Arabian Ranches and the Al Qudra corridor

Further west and south-west with IB provision that draws some families from here. The longest journeys in the area, which pushes sessions later still and makes weekend planning essential.

Where Living Legends Diploma students study mathematics

Diploma provision for this community sits outside it, mainly along the Al Khail Road corridor and in the Al Barsha and Jumeirah area. Higher Level mathematics cohorts at individual schools are often small, which concentrates provision quality in one or two teachers per year group.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the route and the level

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard. One email to the school settles it, and it determines both the teaching and the timetable, because the four courses tolerate a late slot very differently.

  2. 02

Audit the week before choosing a slot

Real arrival time, training commitments, mandatory subject homework and what the weekend actually holds. For a Higher Level student, identify one long window; without it, Paper 3 practice has nowhere to live.

  3. 03

    Send a marked paper

A recent paper with the mark breakdown makes the diagnosis quick: method communication, interpretation, calculator inefficiency, Paper 3 management or a foundational algebra gap. Each needs a different number of sessions and a different window.

  4. 04

    Book the exploration block early

Test the topic for mathematical depth well before the school's deadline, then place the drafting work in a holiday or across weekend mornings. Exploration support that starts at the drafting stage is usually too late to change the band.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions against the diagnosis

Movement in method shows before movement in grades. Compare marked work against the first paper rather than an impression, and pause cleanly for school examination weeks and travel.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The hour is chosen, not inherited

Mathematics punishes a depleted session more than any other Diploma subject, and every student here commutes. Sessions are fixed to real arrival times and tasks are matched to window length, which is the difference between an hour that teaches and one that is merely paid for.

Four courses treated as four briefs

Analysis and Applications at Higher and Standard Level have different syllabuses, different calculator rules and different tolerance for a late slot. We confirm which one applies before matching, and we match on recent experience of that specific course.

Higher Level Paper 3 given a long window

Paper 3 questions build in parts, so a candidate who stalls early loses everything downstream and the paper cannot be practised in fragments. Any Higher Level plan here needs at least one long window a week, booked early in the year rather than negotiated later.

The exploration tested at the topic stage

Twenty per cent of the grade is largely decided by whether the topic carries mathematics of adequate depth for the level. That is checked before drafting, and the drafting itself is placed in a holiday block where uninterrupted hours exist.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED band here names who published it. In mathematics the match matters more than the band, because a tutor who has recently taught the student's actual course is better value than a more expensive specialist in the other route.

No approval claimed and no date invented

No KHDA, ADEK, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, no UAE office, no grade promise. No IB examination or results date is published here, because ibo.org blocks automated verification; the school's coordinator is the source for those.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Living Legends: your questions answered

When should a maths session start for a Diploma student in Living Legends?+

Around six on a weekday, and the main session is often better on a weekend morning. There is no secondary school inside this community, so every Diploma student commutes to Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills or the Al Khail corridor. School ends between half past two and half past three, the journey runs twenty to thirty minutes or longer on a multi-community bus, and the student is home between four and half past four. Mathematics specifically punishes a depleted hour, so the thirty or forty minutes to eat and settle is not optional.

Does Analysis and Approaches need a different slot from Applications?+

Yes, and it is a practical distinction rather than a theoretical one. Analysis is construction work: one paper is sat without a graphical calculator, and Higher Level adds proof and extended calculus, all of which need a sharp mind. Applications is more interpretive, with a calculator throughout and much of the work turning a calculation into a sentence, which survives a tired weekday evening far better. For a commuting household, Analysis belongs in the weekend window with weekday slots used for consolidation.

Why can't Paper 3 be practised in a 45-minute weekday slot?+

Because its questions build in parts, so each section depends on the previous one and the paper cannot be sampled. A candidate who stalls early forfeits everything downstream, which means the skill being trained is reading ahead, managing time across one long question, and collecting partial credit when the final answer is out of reach. All of that requires full-length practice followed by a proper review. Any Higher Level plan in this community needs at least one long window a week, and it should be booked early in the school year.

What should the weekend maths session actually be used for?+

Calculus with multiple stages, Higher Level Paper 3 practice, full timed papers with a real review afterwards, and exploration analysis with the student's own data on screen. Those are the tasks that decide grades at the margin and the ones most likely to be squeezed out of a commuting week. Weekday slots suit consolidating the topic the school taught that fortnight, drilling algebra and indices, and improving calculator fluency. Assigning the windows deliberately usually helps more than adding a third session.

How do we prepare for a maths paper sat without a graphical calculator?+

With short, frequent, timed sets taken with the calculator physically unavailable, requiring every manipulation to be shown. Exact values are the recurring theme: surds left as surds, trigonometric values given exactly rather than as decimals, logarithms simplified rather than evaluated. A student writing 1.41 where the markscheme wants root two has given away a mark on a question they answered. The second habit is sanity checking algebraically rather than visually, which students with a calculator develop through the screen and lose in the examination room.

When should the maths exploration be started for a student here?+

Earlier than most families do, and the topic test matters more than the drafting. The band is largely determined by whether the investigation can support mathematics of appropriate depth for the level, and that is decided before a word is written. Shortlist topics well before the school's internal deadline, test each one for depth, variable range and whether the analysis will support a meaningful conclusion, and then place the drafting work in a school holiday or across weekend mornings where uninterrupted hours exist.

Do academy training evenings in Sports City rule out maths tutoring?+

They rule out the obvious slot, not the subject. Training next door routinely occupies five until seven on several weekdays, which removes the window every other family also wants. Two alternatives work: a short session immediately after school and before training, which suits calculator fluency and algebra drilling because those need repetition rather than length, and a weekend morning block for the heavier work. Most academy households in this community end up with exactly that combination, and it holds through a full year.

How long does it take to fix unshown working in maths?+

Usually three or four sessions, because it is a habit rather than a knowledge gap. The work is simple and specific: marked papers in front of both people, line by line, identifying where the markscheme awarded credit for a stated principle, a substitution or a manipulation that the student omitted. Once a student sees that a correct answer with no visible method collects a fraction of the available marks, the behaviour changes quickly. This is the largest avoidable loss in Analysis at both levels and the fastest to address.

Can one tutor take both maths routes if we have two children?+

Sometimes, but two specialists usually serve a household better. Analysis and Applications diverge enough in content and emphasis that recent experience of one does not guarantee fluency in the other, particularly at Higher Level where the third papers differ substantially. Two consecutive online slots with two specialists costs nothing extra because nothing is travelling, and in a household where the children arrive home more than an hour apart the slots fall naturally in sequence anyway.

What does an IB maths specialist cost from this community?+

Market figures rather than ours. Qualified online subject tutors are quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB provision runs AED 200 to 450 and upward, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named provision reaches AED 650 with BartyED. Budget online provision runs AED 45 to 150. In mathematics the match matters more than the band: a tutor who recently taught your child's actual course is better value than a more expensive specialist in the other route.

Which exam session does a Living Legends IB maths candidate sit?+

IB candidates at UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no specific IB examination or results date, because ibo.org returns an error to automated verification and an unsourced date a family plans around is a genuine harm; confirm those with the school's coordinator. For Cambridge qualifications a sibling may be taking, the UAE series are June and November, with the February and March series offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

How do school holidays help a maths plan in this community?+

They provide the only free daytime hours in a Diploma year, and they fall at useful points relative to internal deadlines. A short intensive block in the winter or spring break, particularly on the exploration or on a calculus foundation that needs rebuilding, converts better than the same number of hours spread across squeezed term-time evenings. Households that travel can keep sessions running from wherever they are, which is a straightforward consequence of lessons being delivered over live video rather than in person.

Will you supply IB maths past papers for practice?+

No. IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade boundary tables are the organisation's copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well. A tutor cites the official source, works from material the school has legitimately issued to the student, and writes equivalent practice questions in the same style and at the same difficulty, which in mathematics is straightforward to do well. A provider advertising a paper library has an unresolved copyright problem a family using it would be sharing.

Is an Analysis Higher Level specialist hard to book at short notice?+

It is the tightest mathematics request in this market, and the reason is structural. Higher Level cohorts at individual Dubai schools are often small, so the number of teachers across the whole emirate who have taken Analysis Higher Level through to a final session recently is smaller than the number who teach mathematics. Combined with the contested evening window, short-notice requests can take longer. Where no suitable specialist is free we give a date rather than offering an Applications specialist to an Analysis candidate.

Give mathematics the best hour you have

An IB maths tutor in Living Legends will only be as good as the slot they teach in, because this is the Diploma subject least forgiving of a tired student and every student here commutes. Confirm the route and the level, audit the week honestly, and identify one long window for calculus, Paper 3 and the exploration before you book anything. Then match on recent experience of that exact course. Book a free trial lesson at the hour you actually intend to use, and judge it on whether the tutor can name the loss pattern.
