IB Physics Tutor in Jumeirah 2

An IB physics tutor in Jumeirah 2 is a two-year purchase, not an hourly one, and the figure that matters is what the whole Diploma Programme costs rather than what one Tuesday costs. This page sets out the published AED rates in this market, where families in Jumeirah 2 routinely waste money on physics support, and what the hours should buy at each stage. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial.

What two years of IB Physics support actually costs a Jumeirah 2 family

Most pages about physics tuition answer the hourly question and stop. That is the least useful number available. A Diploma Programme physics student is in the subject for two years, and what a Jumeirah 2 family will actually spend depends on how many of those twenty-four months carry a weekly session, whether the investigation gets its own block of hours, and whether the spring of DP2 turns into panic buying at a higher rate. The hourly figure moves by a factor of three across this market. The total moves by a factor of ten, and almost entirely because of decisions made about scheduling rather than about price.

Here is the shape of the published market as of October 2026, attributed. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level rates at AED 200 to 450 an hour and above. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52, both at the university-student tier. BartyED sits at the top at around AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors. On monthly estimates, Bestimate gives AED 240 to 600 for a budget weekly hour, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Put those against a real two-year plan and the arithmetic becomes visible. A single weekly hour at the qualified-tutor band across the thirty-four teaching weeks of DP1 and the twenty-eight of DP2, with a double slot from January of DP2 and a block of six hours on the investigation, is roughly eighty-four hours. At the mid band that is a four-figure annual commitment and at the specialist band a considerably larger one. The question worth asking before any of it is which of those eighty-four hours actually change a grade.

In our experience of this subject the answer is uneven. The hours spent on the scientific investigation are the highest-value hours in the whole course, because the investigation is 20% of the final grade, it is assessed against four published criteria worth six marks each, and most students lose marks in the same two places every year. The hours spent on Paper 1B data analysis are the second-highest, because that component is a technique rather than a body of knowledge and responds to drilling faster than anything else in physics. The hours spent re-explaining a topic the school taught badly are worth having. The hours spent on generic revision in April of DP2 are mostly wasted, and they are the hours families buy most of.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition as one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. For a physics family in Jumeirah 2 that matters financially as well as practically: the published in-home premium is AED 30 to 150 an hour over the equivalent online rate, and across eighty-four hours that premium alone is larger than the entire investigation support block.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in three different forms across the schools serving Jumeirah 2, and the cost of support differs sharply between them because the assessment differs.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Physics

Taken at Standard or Higher Level over two years on the syllabus introduced in 2023 and first examined in 2025. Content sits in five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Assessment is Paper 1 at 36% of the grade, Paper 2 at 44%, and the internally assessed scientific investigation at 20%. Higher Level sits the same components over longer durations with additional content in every theme.

International Baccalaureate students are 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools, creating 16,846 places in total. For a Jumeirah 2 family the practical consequence is a growing DP Physics cohort and school sets of twenty or more, which is the single clearest argument for one-to-one hours on the investigation rather than on content.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

The five years before the Diploma, where physics is taught inside integrated sciences and assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. There are no papers and no percentage weightings, which is why MYP support costs less per month and why the jump into DP Physics surprises families who had no earlier warning signs to read.

Several schools in the Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim ring run MYP before the Diploma. The cheapest intervention a family in this district can make in physics is six hours in the MYP 5 summer on algebraic rearrangement, unit handling and graph work, rather than thirty hours in DP2 on the consequences of not having them.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson International GCSE Physics

The British-curriculum route at 16, usually Cambridge 0625 at Core or Extended tier or Pearson 4PH1. Both are examined entirely by written paper, with practical skills assessed through an alternative-to-practical component rather than by coursework. Rates sit a band below IB in every published table: Unitors quotes IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200.

Most Jumeirah 2 students who end up in DP Physics arrive from 0625 Extended or 4PH1. The gap between a comfortable grade 8 at IGCSE and a comfortable 6 at DP Higher Level is mathematical rather than conceptual: calculus-adjacent reasoning, vector resolution and logarithmic scales. That is what the DP1 autumn term should be spent on, and it is cheaper to buy then than in DP2.

A LevelAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge and Pearson International A Level Physics

The alternative post-16 route taken at several British schools in this catchment, with a practical endorsement or a written practical paper depending on the board. Families comparing costs should know that A Level physics support is usually quoted at the same specialist band as IB, because the content depth is comparable even though the assessment structure is not.

Where it matters for a Jumeirah 2 budget is the absence of an internally assessed 20% component. An A Level physics plan can be built almost entirely around past papers, which is cheaper per grade point than a DP plan that has to fund investigation supervision alongside paper practice.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely bought alone in this district. These are the subjects most often added to a DP Physics booking, with what each one actually assesses and why the combination affects the total cost.

Physics

SL and HL

Paper 1A multiple choice, Paper 1B data analysis, Paper 2 extended response, plus a scientific investigation worth 20%. Marks concentrate in explanation quality rather than calculation: a correct number with no reasoning scores a fraction of the available credit on a Paper 2 six-marker.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

The usual companion to Physics HL and the subject that decides whether physics feels hard. Differentiation of trigonometric functions, logarithmic linearisation and vector algebra all appear in physics before the maths course has finished teaching them, which is a timing problem worth planning around.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Booked alongside physics by almost every medicine and engineering applicant here. The shared skill is quantitative reasoning under a mark scheme: significant figures, units, uncertainty and the discipline of writing the working out in the order the examiner reads it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Taken with Physics SL more often than families expect. It is sufficient for SL physics but leaves Higher Level students short on the algebraic manipulation that fields and quantum topics assume, so a student on this combination usually needs more physics hours, not fewer.

Biology

SL and HL

The third science in most medicine applications. Its investigation is assessed against the same four criteria as the physics one, which means investigation coaching bought once transfers across both subjects and is one of the few genuine economies available in a DP budget.

Computer Science

SL and HL

Increasingly chosen alongside Physics HL by engineering applicants. The overlap is logical structure and the discipline of tracing a process step by step, which is the same habit that rescues a physics student on a multi-stage energy problem.

Design Technology

SL and HL

Shares the physics of materials, structures and energy, and shares the pain of a long internally assessed project. Families running both should expect to fund two separate coursework blocks rather than one, which is a budget line most parents discover late.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Often taken instead of a second science. Its quantitative demands are lighter, so a student carrying Physics HL and ESS SL has a more affordable support profile than one carrying two Higher Level sciences.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Compulsory, assessed by an essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition. It carries no separate physics content but it competes for the same DP2 hours as physics revision, which is why the physics plan has to be written against the school's whole assessment calendar.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent piece, frequently written in physics by students in this catchment. Supervision is the school's job; what a tutor can legitimately add is subject feedback on the student's own drafts and help with experimental design, never writing.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three spending patterns we see in this district, with what each one costs over two years and what it buys. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video.

The steady weekly hour

One session a week from the start of DP1 to the end of DP2, around sixty hours in total. This is the most expensive pattern in aggregate and the least wasteful per hour, because the tutor sees the course unfold and the investigation gets planned rather than rescued. Families who can fund it rarely need anything else.

  • Roughly 60 one-to-one hours across the two years
  • Investigation planned in DP1, not written in DP2
  • Content gaps caught within a fortnight of being created
  • Same slot each week, fixed on Gulf Standard Time

Targeted blocks at three fixed points

Thirty to thirty-five hours total, bought in three blocks: the DP1 autumn to close the IGCSE-to-DP mathematical gap, a block around the investigation, and a block from January of DP2 on Paper 1B and Paper 2 technique. Roughly half the cost of the weekly pattern and, for a capable student with a competent school, close to the same result.

  • Block one: six to eight hours on vectors, logarithms and uncertainty
  • Block two: six hours on the scientific investigation at the design stage
  • Block three: fifteen to twenty hours on timed papers in DP2
  • Nothing bought in the months where school teaching is sufficient

Spring-of-DP2 emergency hours

Twenty to forty hours compressed into eight weeks before the exams, usually at the specialist rate because that is who is left available. It is the most common pattern in this market and the worst value, because it funds generic revision at the highest price at the point where the 20% investigation mark is already fixed and cannot be changed.

  • Highest hourly rate, lowest marginal effect on the grade
  • The investigation mark is already submitted and immovable
  • Still worth doing for Paper 1B technique, which responds quickly
  • We will say what eight weeks can and cannot change before you book

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 2

01

The published AED rates, and what each tier actually gets you

Every figure in the table below was published by the provider named and is dated October 2026. None of them is our price. The reason to set them out at all is that three of the six strongest-ranking pages in this market publish no price whatsoever, and two of the remaining three quote in US dollars, a currency no family in Jumeirah 2 pays anybody in. A parent who cannot see a number cannot judge whether a quote is reasonable.

Reading the tiers from the bottom up is more useful than reading them from the top. At AED 45 to 65 an hour you are buying a university student or a recent graduate who knows the subject at the level they studied it and has not taught it. For MYP sciences and for IGCSE confidence-building that is often entirely adequate and it is the band most families should start in. It is not adequate for DP Higher Level, because the thing an HL physics student needs is somebody who has read the published assessment criteria for the investigation and marked against them.

The AED 150 to 300 band is where qualified subject teachers sit, and it is the band most of a two-year DP plan should be bought in. Above AED 450 you are paying for scarcity or reputation rather than for a different quality of teaching, and the marginal return is hard to see in a grade. BartyED's published AED 650 is a real rate for a real service, but a Jumeirah 2 family deciding between sixty hours at AED 250 and twenty-three hours at AED 650 for the same money should choose the sixty almost every time, because physics marks accumulate with contact time and not with the prestige of the contact.

One figure deserves separate attention. The in-home premium, AED 30 to 150 an hour over an equivalent online rate, is a travel charge. Across an eighty-four-hour plan it is between AED 2,500 and AED 12,600 spent on somebody driving along Al Wasl Road. That is not an argument against in-home tutoring, which has real advantages for younger children. It is an argument for knowing what the line item is.

Where Jumeirah 2 families waste money on physics

  • Re-teaching understood content instead of mark-scheme technique
  • Buying in April of DP2, after the 20% investigation mark is fixed
  • Paying specialist rates for multiple-choice drilling
  • Running months of sessions without a marked paper score

The first waste is buying content hours for a problem that is not a content problem. A student who understands momentum conservation perfectly and scores four out of nine on a Paper 2 question about it does not need momentum explained again. They need to be taught that the mark scheme awards credit for naming the principle, stating the condition under which it applies, substituting with units, and commenting on the direction of the result — and that writing the right number in a box collects a fraction of those marks. Sessions that re-teach understood content are the most expensive comfortable hours in this subject.

The second waste is buying hours in the wrong months. Physics support bought in April of DP2 arrives after the investigation has been submitted, which means 20% of the grade is already fixed and no amount of money can move it. The same hours bought in the second term of DP1, when the investigation is being designed, act on that 20% directly. Families in this district reliably buy late, because the trigger for buying is a disappointing mock result and mocks fall after the point of maximum leverage has passed.

The third waste is paying a specialist rate for work a cheaper tier does equally well. Drilling Paper 1A multiple choice, going through unit conversions, and checking that a student can read a logarithmic axis are all tasks a competent graduate at AED 60 an hour performs as well as a specialist at AED 400. Reserve the specialist band for the investigation, for Paper 2 extended response technique, and for the Higher Level content that genuinely needs a subject expert. A mixed plan is cheaper and better than a uniform one.

The fourth waste is unmeasured hours. If nobody is marking complete papers against the official mark scheme and writing down the score, there is no evidence any of it is working, and a family can spend a year on sessions that feel productive and change nothing. We write a note after each session and a marked paper score at least monthly, because the alternative is buying on faith.

03

IB Physics assessment structure, and what each component is worth

The current syllabus, introduced in 2023 and first examined in 2025, assesses physics through two external papers and one internal component. Paper 1 is worth 36% of the final grade and splits into Paper 1A, multiple choice, and Paper 1B, a set of data-based and experimental questions. Paper 2 is worth 44% and consists of short and extended response questions. The scientific investigation, internally assessed and externally moderated, is worth 20%. Higher Level candidates sit the same components over longer durations and across additional content in every theme.

Those weightings decide where money should go. Paper 2 is the largest single component and the one where technique is worth the most marks per hour of coaching, because extended response answers are scored against explicit reasoning steps. Paper 1B is the component that improves fastest: it is a skill set — reading uncertainties, linearising a relationship, identifying the systematic error in a described method — and six focused hours visibly change a score. Paper 1A rewards breadth and speed and responds to volume rather than to teaching.

The investigation is the component families underestimate most. It is a single piece of independent experimental work, reported in no more than 3,000 words, assessed against four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Twenty-four marks, 20% of the grade, and the two criteria where students most often lose marks are evaluation and research design rather than the data handling everybody worries about. Students describe a method instead of justifying the choices inside it, and they list weaknesses instead of explaining how each one would propagate into the result.

The content sits in five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level adds depth in every one rather than a separate option. A tutor should be able to say which theme your child's last paper lost marks in without being told, from the script alone.

The scientific investigation: the cheapest 20% you will ever buy

  • Four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation
  • Report limit 3,000 words; the limit is not where marks are lost
  • Six hours at the design stage outperform twenty hours of late revision
  • The tutor questions, teaches and gives feedback; the student writes every word

If a Jumeirah 2 family has a limited budget for physics, the investigation is where it should go, and the hours should be bought at the design stage rather than at the writing stage. Four criteria, six marks each, twenty-four marks in total, 20% of the final grade. Six well-spent hours before a single data point is collected routinely moves a student from the middle band to the upper band on research design and evaluation, which is worth more than twenty hours of revision in DP2.

What those six hours contain is specific. First, interrogating the research question until it is narrow enough to be answered and broad enough to be interesting: most weak investigations fail here, with a question that cannot produce a relationship. Second, the independent and dependent variables and the controlled ones, with a stated reason for each control rather than a list. Third, the range and number of measurements, because five data points across a narrow range cannot support a conclusion no matter how carefully they are processed. Fourth, a plan for uncertainty before the experiment runs, since uncertainties invented afterwards are visible to a moderator.

The boundary matters here more than anywhere else on this page. A tutor may question a research question, teach uncertainty propagation, explain what the evaluation criterion rewards and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of the investigation, and we will not do it. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at around AED 3,750. For the student that is a malpractice finding and a potentially lost Diploma, which is a far larger loss than the marks involved.

A practical note on timing for this district. Internal deadlines for the investigation differ by months between schools in the Jumeirah and Al Sufouh ring, and some fall in the final term of DP1 rather than in DP2. Ask your child's physics teacher for the internal deadline in writing at the start of DP1. That date, not the exam date, is what the physics budget should be planned around.

05

What the in-home travel premium actually buys in Jumeirah 2

In-home physics tutoring is a legitimate service and plenty of families in this district use it. The honest version of the comparison is that it costs AED 30 to 150 an hour more than an equivalent online arrangement, that the difference is a travel charge, and that the travel in question is Al Wasl Road or Jumeirah Beach Road between 4pm and 5:30pm, which is when a DP student is actually available. A tutor who commits to that journey four times a week is pricing roughly six hours of unpaid driving into their rate, and they are right to.

What the premium buys is a physical presence, which is worth something real for a thirteen-year-old and much less for a seventeen-year-old doing vector resolution on a shared screen. What it costs is selection. The requirement "can reach Jumeirah 2 by 4:45pm" eliminates most of the people who have marked a scientific investigation against the published criteria. The requirement "knows the 2023 physics syllabus and is free at 4:45pm Gulf Standard Time" eliminates almost nobody.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and we state that on every UAE page rather than discovering it for a parent on a sales call. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the student's own paper, script or spreadsheet open on a shared screen. For physics specifically the shared screen is an advantage rather than a compromise: graphing software, a simulation and the student's own marked script can all be on the same display, which is not true at a dining table.

The comparison below prices the options over a realistic eighty-four-hour two-year plan rather than per hour, because the per-hour difference looks small and the two-year difference does not.

Budgeting physics across DP1 and DP2 month by month

The useful planning unit in this subject is the term, not the month, and the terms are not equal. The DP1 autumn term is where the mathematical gap from IGCSE shows up: vector resolution, logarithmic scales, rearranging an equation with three variables under a square root. Six to eight hours here prevents a year of compounding difficulty, and it is the single highest-return block in the two years after the investigation. Families almost never buy it, because nothing has gone wrong yet.

The DP1 spring and summer terms are investigation months at most schools in this catchment. Six hours at the design stage, as set out above. Beyond that, DP1 rarely needs weekly support for a student who is coping, and a family that buys it anyway is funding reassurance rather than marks. We would rather say so and lose the booking than take sixty hours where thirty would do the same work.

The DP2 autumn term is where content finishes and the first complete papers become possible. This is the point to shift from explanation to timed practice, and the point where a weekly hour genuinely earns its rate. The DP2 spring term should be almost entirely papers: complete Paper 1 and Paper 2 sittings, marked against the official mark scheme, with the score written down. Eight full papers is a reasonable target for a Higher Level candidate. Most manage three.

The exam session itself is the May series for schools in this catchment. We will not publish specific IB exam or results dates on this page. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been verified from the IB itself, and a wrong date in a physics plan is worse than no date. Confirm the session dates and your school's internal deadlines with your child's DP coordinator, and build the budget backwards from those.

Checking a physics tutor is permitted to teach in the UAE

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit, free for two years, Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Applied for through the MoHRE app, website and e-services system; two working days
  • No published fine schedule, so no provider should quote you an amount
  • Never engage your child's own class teacher as a paid private tutor

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page for it is titled "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published. A figure circulating online as a maximum penalty could not be verified against any official source, so no amount should be quoted to you by any provider, including us. If a page states a specific fine, treat that as a signal about the page.

There is a second rule worth knowing in this catchment. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. This is press-reported rather than read from the current policy document, so verify it against ADEK before relying on the exact wording. The practical point applies in Dubai too: never arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately for a fee.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold that permit and does not describe itself as having regulator approval of any kind. We do not operate a UAE office or centre, and we say so.

08

Physics, MoE equivalency and what a UAE university will want

Families in Jumeirah 2 planning on a UAE university place after the Diploma need to separate two things that get conflated: what the university asks for, and what the Ministry of Education equivalency process asks for. They are different processes with different paperwork, and tutoring is not required for either.

On the British track the sourced equivalency rule is specific. Students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five, and publishing the correct rule is a reasonable thing to expect from a page asking for your money.

On the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no published points threshold in the source we have read, so we will not state one. Any page that publishes an IB equivalency points figure without a moe.gov.ae citation is guessing on your behalf.

What physics specifically affects is the university side rather than the equivalency side. Engineering programmes in the UAE and abroad generally expect Physics at Higher Level alongside Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, and some expect Higher Level in both. A student taking Physics SL with Applications and Interpretation should check the prerequisite pages of their target programmes in DP1 rather than DP2, because the subject change window closes early. Equivalency and attestation are processes the Ministry runs; we describe them and point you to the official channel rather than performing them.

Where we tutor

Jumeirah 2 and the surrounding coastal districts

DP Physics cohorts in this part of Dubai are drawn from a continuous strip of villa districts, and families two roads apart often share both a school and a tutor. These are the areas we schedule on the same timetable.

Jumeirah 2

Villa streets between Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road. No DP school inside the district, so physics students here commute inland to Al Safa or along the coast to Al Sufouh and Umm Suqeim.

Jumeirah 1

North-east towards City Walk. Closer to Emirates International School Jumeirah, which runs the Diploma, so a handful of physics students here have a genuinely short commute.

Jumeirah 3

South-west towards Al Safa 2. Shares the Beach Road run with Jumeirah 2 and the same afternoon constraint, with marginally faster access to the Umm Suqeim schools.

Al Safa

Immediately inland, and the nearest dense school cluster. Families here pay the same market rates as Jumeirah 2 but have a shorter afternoon run, which historically made in-home visits more viable and kept local rates slightly higher.

Umm Suqeim

Along the coast towards Burj Al Arab, with Kings' School Dubai and Raffles World Academy nearby. The longest run in this cluster and the clearest case for a lesson that requires no travel.

Al Wasl

The inland corridor carrying the afternoon traffic. In-home physics tutors quoting a rate to a Jumeirah 2 family are pricing this road into their hour, whether or not they itemise it.

Palm Jumeirah

Offshore to the west, reached by a single trunk road. The travel premium charged to families here is the highest in the cluster, and the saving from removing it is correspondingly the largest.

Pearl Jumeira

The reclaimed island off Jumeirah 1, with one access road. A tutor billing door to door is billing for that road twice, which is the clearest illustration of what the in-home premium actually pays for.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah 2

IB Diploma schools serving Jumeirah 2

The schools in this catchment that run the Diploma Programme, and therefore the ones whose DP Physics assessment calendars we work from. Their internal deadlines for the scientific investigation differ by months, which is the single biggest determinant of when physics hours should be bought.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Dubai International Academy
  • Universal American School

British-curriculum schools in the same ring

The A Level and IGCSE schools most Jumeirah 2 students attend. Physics families comparing the IB route with A Level usually have children in both groups among their neighbours, which is why the cost comparison in this district is an unusually well-informed conversation.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa British School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Schools are named to describe the Jumeirah 2 catchment that students we support attend; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied or claimed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the term

Standard or Higher Level, which term of which year, and whether the scientific investigation has been submitted. Those three facts determine whether the money you are about to spend can still act on 20% of the grade or only on the written papers.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked script

A marked Paper 2, a unit test or a mock script tells a physics tutor more in five minutes than a conversation does in thirty. We want to see where credit was withheld, not only what was wrong, because those are different problems with different prices.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson

A 45 to 60 minute one-to-one session over live video at no cost, with no card details requested beforehand. The tutor spends it diagnosing against the mark scheme and you receive a written note saying which component is actually costing marks.

  4. 04

Agree a plan in hours, not months

We quote a block of hours against named objectives rather than an open-ended monthly arrangement, so the cost is visible at the start. Our rate is confirmed in AED in writing before anything is booked.

  5. 05

    Measure with marked papers

At least one complete paper a month, marked against the official mark scheme, with the score recorded. Unmeasured sessions are how a family spends a year and learns nothing about whether the spending worked.

  6. 06

Stop when the plan is done

Blocks end. If the objectives are met, we say so rather than rolling the arrangement forward automatically. A provider whose plan never finishes is selling months rather than marks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates shown with the source and the date

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and dated October 2026, and none of them is presented as our price. Three of the strongest pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote in dollars, so a parent here is usually comparing nothing against nothing.

Hours placed where they change a grade

The investigation and Paper 1B respond fastest; April revision in DP2 responds least. We will tell you when the hours you want to buy cannot act on the component that is costing marks, including when that means a smaller booking than you offered.

A mixed plan where a mixed plan is cheaper

Multiple-choice drilling does not need a specialist rate and investigation supervision does. Splitting the plan across tiers by task routinely costs a third less than a uniform arrangement and produces the same marks.

No travel priced into the hour

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so no part of the rate pays for Al Wasl Road at 4:30pm. The published in-home premium of AED 30 to 150 an hour is, across an eighty-four-hour plan, larger than the entire investigation block.

A stated academic-honesty boundary

The tutor questions the research question, teaches uncertainty handling and gives feedback on the student's own draft. No part of an investigation, Extended Essay or coursework is written or completed for a student, and we say so to the student in session one.

No dates we have not verified

We publish Cambridge and Pearson dates with their source. We do not publish IB session or results dates, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically and an unverified date in an exam plan is worse than no date at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 2: your questions answered

What does an IB physics tutor charge per hour for a Jumeirah 2 family?+

The published market splits into clear bands. EdFlik advertises online tuition from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52, both at the university-student tier. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour. TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level work and Bestimate puts specialist rates at AED 200 to 450 and above. BartyED sits at around AED 650. Those are market figures as published in October 2026, not our prices. We confirm our own rate in AED in writing before anything is booked.

How many hours of physics support does a two-year IB Diploma actually need?+

A realistic plan is seventy to ninety one-to-one hours across the two years, and a well-placed thirty-five can achieve most of it. The pattern we recommend is six to eight hours in the DP1 autumn on the mathematical gap from IGCSE, six hours on the scientific investigation at the design stage, ten to fourteen in the DP2 autumn on first complete papers, and fifteen to twenty in the DP2 spring on timed sittings. Buying sixty hours spread evenly costs more and achieves little extra, because the months are not equally valuable.

Why is the scientific investigation the best place to spend a limited physics budget?+

Because it is 20% of the final grade, it is assessed against four published criteria worth six marks each, and it can only be influenced before submission. Six hours spent at the design stage, interrogating the research question and planning the controlled variables, uncertainty and measurement range, routinely moves a student up a band on research design and evaluation. The same money spent in April of DP2 arrives after the mark is fixed. Students lose marks on evaluation and research design rather than on the arithmetic everybody worries about.

Is it cheaper to use an online physics tutor or a home tutor in Jumeirah 2?+

Online is cheaper, and the gap is a travel charge rather than a quality difference. Bestimate quotes in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour and independent home tutors up to AED 500, against AED 150 to 300 for an equivalent qualified online tutor. The premium of roughly AED 30 to 150 an hour pays for a drive along Al Wasl Road or Jumeirah Beach Road at the worst hour of the afternoon. Across an eighty-four-hour two-year plan that premium alone comes to between AED 2,500 and AED 12,600.

Does IB Gram send a physics tutor to a home in Jumeirah 2?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video with a shared screen. For physics in particular the shared screen is an advantage: graphing software, a simulation and the student's own marked script sit on one display at the same time, which is not possible at a dining table. We say this on the first screen of every UAE page rather than letting a parent discover it on a call.

What are the current IB Physics paper weightings at SL and HL?+

On the syllabus introduced in 2023 and first examined in 2025, Paper 1 is worth 36% of the final grade and splits into Paper 1A multiple choice and Paper 1B data-based and experimental questions. Paper 2, short and extended response, is worth 44%. The internally assessed scientific investigation is worth 20%. Higher Level candidates sit the same components over longer durations and across additional content in all five themes. Those weightings are why Paper 2 technique and the investigation are the two highest-value things to coach.

Which IB Physics topics cost Jumeirah 2 students the most marks?+

Fields and the quantum material, almost always for mathematical rather than conceptual reasons: a student who cannot comfortably manipulate an inverse-square relationship or an exponential will struggle with both however well they understand the physics. After that, anything requiring a reasoned explanation rather than a number. A Paper 2 six-marker about momentum conservation awards credit for naming the principle, stating the condition, substituting with units and commenting on direction, and students who write only the final number collect a fraction of it.

Can a cheaper tutor handle some of the physics work and a specialist the rest?+

Yes, and for most families it is the better value. Drilling Paper 1A multiple choice, practising unit conversions and checking that a student can read a logarithmic axis are all done as well by a competent graduate at AED 60 an hour as by a specialist at AED 400. Reserve the specialist band for the scientific investigation, Paper 2 extended response technique and Higher Level content that genuinely needs subject depth. A mixed plan across tiers typically costs about a third less than a uniform one for the same outcome.

My child's physics mock was poor and the exams are in four months. What should we buy?+

Paper technique, not content, and we would tell you if the investigation has already been submitted because that fixes 20% of the grade regardless of what you spend. The plan would be a complete Paper 1 and Paper 2 in week one, marked against the official mark scheme, then a written list of the two components costing the most marks, then weekly timed sittings with Paper 1B drilled separately because it improves fastest. Four months is enough to move a grade. It is not enough to make a Standard Level student into a Higher Level one.

Will a physics tutor write or correct my child's scientific investigation?+

No. A tutor may question the research question, teach uncertainty propagation and graph linearisation, explain what each assessment criterion rewards and give feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of it, and we will not. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at around AED 3,750, which is an academic-integrity breach and for the student a malpractice finding that can cost the Diploma. The marks at stake are far smaller than that risk.

Do physics tutors in the UAE need a government permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no provider should quote you an amount.

Is IB Gram approved by KHDA or the IB to teach physics in Dubai?+

No, and any provider claiming regulator or board approval should be asked to show the permit number. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific document issued to institutes with physical premises. We do not hold one, we do not operate a UAE office or centre, and we do not describe ourselves as accredited by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We are an independent tutor-matching platform.

When does a Jumeirah 2 physics student sit the IB exams?+

Schools in this catchment sit the May session. We will not publish specific IB exam or results dates on this page, because the IB's own site returns an error to automated checking and no IB date in this project has been verified from the IB directly. A date a family plans around has to be right, and an approximate one is worse than none. Ask your child's DP coordinator for the session dates and, more importantly, for the school's internal deadline for the scientific investigation, which is the date the physics budget should be built around.

Does Physics Higher Level matter for engineering applications from Dubai?+

Generally yes. Engineering programmes in the UAE and abroad usually expect Physics at Higher Level alongside Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, and some expect Higher Level in both. A student carrying Physics SL with Applications and Interpretation should read the prerequisite pages of their target programmes during DP1, because the window for changing subjects closes early in the first year. This is an admissions question rather than an equivalency one: Ministry of Education equivalency and university prerequisites are separate processes with separate paperwork, and tutoring is required for neither.

Can physics sessions be scheduled around a late school finish in Jumeirah 2?+

Yes, and they usually have to be. A Diploma student at Dubai College or Kings' School Dubai with a co-curricular commitment is often not home before 5pm, and the Al Wasl run between 4pm and 5pm is the slowest hour of the day in this district. Because lessons run over live video there is no travel to coordinate, so an evening slot at 6pm or 7pm costs nothing extra and holds reliably. During Ramadan most families here move to a post-iftar slot, confirmed in writing before the month begins.

How will we know the physics tuition is working rather than just happening?+

By a marked score, written down, at least once a month. A complete Paper 1 or Paper 2 sat under timed conditions and marked against the official mark scheme produces a number that either moves or does not. Session notes describing what was covered are useful but they are not evidence. Families who run a year of physics support without a single marked full paper have no way to judge the spending, and that is the most common reason an expensive arrangement turns out to have achieved nothing.

Buy the hours that can still change the grade

If you are weighing up IB Physics support in Jumeirah 2, the question that saves the most money is not what an hour costs but which hour you are buying. Tell us the level, the term, and whether the scientific investigation has been submitted, and send the last marked script. We will come back with a plan in hours against named objectives, our rate confirmed in AED in writing, and an honest answer about what the remaining time can and cannot move. The first lesson is a free trial over live video with no card details taken beforehand.
