IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 2

The cheapest useful thing a Jumeirah 2 family can do about chemistry

Start with the options that cost nothing, because in this subject two of them work surprisingly often. The first is the school's own chemistry department. Most Diploma schools in the Jumeirah and Al Safa ring run a weekly subject clinic, and a Higher Level student who attends it for a term with specific questions written down beforehand usually closes two or three topic gaps without anybody paying for an hour. Families skip it because it is at 7:30am or 3:30pm and inconvenient, which is a different objection from it not working.

The second free option is the student's own marked scripts. A Diploma chemistry student accumulates a dozen marked tests across two years and almost none of them get read twice. Sitting down with three of them and sorting the lost marks into four piles — did not know the content, knew it but wrote no reasoning, arithmetic slip, misread the question — produces a diagnosis a tutor would charge for, and parents can do it in an evening. In our experience the second pile is the largest, which changes what you should buy.

The third option costs a little: past papers marked honestly against the published mark scheme. The fourth is a small group, where a centre class at roughly AED 80 to 200 per student per hour works well if everyone in the group has the same gap and badly if they do not. Only after those four does one-to-one tuition become the obvious answer, and then it is worth buying properly rather than cheaply.

Here is the published market, lowest first, as of October 2026. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both at the university-student tier. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level rates at AED 200 to 450 and above, with in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors to AED 500. BartyED sits at around AED 650. On a monthly basis Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 for a budget weekly hour, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Monthly packages in this market run near AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition as one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. The first lesson is a free trial, with no card details requested beforehand, and the honest purpose of that lesson is to tell you which of the five options above your child actually needs.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry is taught in three distinct forms across the schools serving Jumeirah 2, and the price of support tracks the assessment rather than the difficulty.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Chemistry

Two years at Standard or Higher Level on the syllabus introduced in 2023 and first examined in 2025. Content is organised as Structure 1 to 3 — models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and classification of matter — and Reactivity 1 to 3 — what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Paper 1 is 36% of the grade, Paper 2 is 44%, and the internally assessed scientific investigation is 20%.

IB students make up 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment and the emirate's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools, creating 16,846 places. For a Jumeirah 2 household the practical effect is bigger Higher Level chemistry sets, and bigger sets are precisely where a student who writes correct chemistry with no reasoning stops being noticed.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

Chemistry sits inside integrated sciences and is assessed against four criteria rather than by examination. There are no weightings and no papers, so a parent gets no numerical warning before the Diploma begins. Support here is cheaper per month and considerably better value, because the skills that decide Higher Level chemistry — ratio reasoning, significant figures, unit tracking — are taught in these years or not at all.

Several schools in the Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim ring run MYP into the Diploma. The cheapest chemistry intervention available to a family in this district is a handful of hours in the MYP 5 summer on mole reasoning, bought at the budget band rather than the specialist one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry

The British-curriculum route at 16, examined entirely by written paper with practical skills tested through an alternative-to-practical component rather than coursework. Mole calculations, titration arithmetic and percentage yield are the components where marks concentrate, and they are the same components that decide whether Diploma chemistry feels manageable two years later.

Published rates sit a band below IB throughout: Unitors quotes IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200. A family in Jumeirah 2 planning for Higher Level chemistry should treat Year 11 as the cheap window, because the same mole-reasoning work costs the IGCSE rate now and the specialist IB rate in eighteen months.

A LevelAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge and Pearson International A Level Chemistry

The alternative post-16 route in this catchment, with organic chemistry taught in greater depth than at Diploma Standard Level and a practical component assessed by written paper or endorsement depending on the board. Support is usually quoted at the same specialist band as IB because the content depth is comparable.

The budget difference is structural rather than about price. An A Level chemistry plan can be built almost entirely from past papers, while a Diploma plan has to fund investigation supervision as well, so the same AED total buys more paper practice on the A Level route.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is almost never the only booking a Jumeirah 2 family makes. These are the subjects most often added, and what each one assesses.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Paper 1A multiple choice with the data booklet, Paper 1B data analysis, Paper 2 extended response, plus a scientific investigation worth 20%. The largest single source of lost marks is correct chemistry written without the reasoning step the mark scheme asks for.

Biology

SL and HL

The usual companion for medicine applicants. Its investigation is assessed against the same four criteria as chemistry's, so investigation coaching bought once transfers, which is one of very few real economies in a Diploma budget.

Physics

SL and HL

Taken with chemistry by engineering applicants. The shared skill is quantitative discipline: significant figures, units, uncertainty, and writing working in the order an examiner reads it rather than the order a student thinks it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

The subject that quietly decides whether Higher Level chemistry is painful. Logarithms for pH, exponentials for rate constants and algebraic rearrangement under a square root all appear in chemistry before the maths course has finished teaching them.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Adequate for Standard Level chemistry and thin for Higher Level, particularly in the energetics and equilibrium material. A student on this combination typically needs more chemistry hours rather than fewer, which should be in the budget from the start.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Chosen instead of a second demanding science by students who want a lighter quantitative load. Pairs well with Chemistry HL for a student whose target courses need one strong science rather than two.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Compulsory, assessed by a prescribed-title essay and an exhibition. It adds no chemistry content but competes for the same weeks as the investigation, which is why a chemistry plan has to be written against the school's whole assessment calendar.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent piece often written in chemistry here. Supervision belongs to the school. What a tutor can legitimately add is feedback on the student's own drafts and help thinking through experimental design, never any part of the writing.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Booked alongside chemistry more often than expected, usually because the same student who writes chemistry without reasoning also writes essays without analysis. The underlying habit is identical and improving it once improves both grades.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy chemistry support at three different price points, each suited to a different diagnosis. All are one-to-one over live video.

A single diagnostic block

Three to four hours, once, to establish what is actually wrong. A marked past paper, a sort of the lost marks into content, reasoning, arithmetic and misreading, and a written plan the family can execute themselves with the school's help. For a surprising number of students this is the whole intervention.

  • Three to four hours total, bought once
  • Output is a written diagnosis, not a course
  • Often ends with a recommendation to use the school clinic
  • Costed and quoted in AED in writing before booking

Investigation support block

Six hours around the scientific investigation, placed at the design stage before data collection. This is the highest-value block in a chemistry budget because the component is 20% of the grade, assessed against four criteria worth six marks each, and entirely immovable once submitted.

  • Research question narrowed until it can actually produce a relationship
  • Controlled variables justified rather than listed
  • Uncertainty planned before the experiment, not invented after
  • The student writes every word; the tutor questions and feeds back

Exam-term weekly slot

One or two sessions a week from January of the second Diploma year, split between remaining content and complete timed papers marked against the official mark scheme. The most expensive pattern and the only one that reliably moves a Paper 2 score, provided the investigation was handled earlier.

  • One content session and one timed-paper session each week
  • Paper 1A drilled for speed, Paper 1B for uncertainty technique
  • A recorded score at least monthly, not just session notes
  • Block ends on a date agreed at the start

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 2

01

Price steps in the Dubai chemistry market, read from the bottom

Reading a rate card from the cheapest end tells you more than reading it from the top, because each step upward should buy something nameable. At AED 33 to 52 an hour, which is Tutopiya's published starting point, you are buying somebody who studied the subject recently and can answer questions about it. That is genuinely useful for a student who has fallen behind on content and knows it. At AED 45 to 65, EdFlik's published range, the same thing with more structure.

The step to AED 150, where Unitors begins its IGCSE pricing, buys a trained teacher who has taught the specification to a class and knows which questions the cohort gets wrong. The step to AED 200, Unitors' IB starting point, buys the same thing for the Diploma. The step to around AED 270, TutorChase's quoted rate, and into Bestimate's AED 200 to 450 specialist band, buys somebody who has read the published assessment criteria for the scientific investigation and marked work against them. That is a real distinction and it is the one worth paying for in this subject.

Above AED 450 the nameable thing gets harder to name. BartyED's published AED 650 is a real rate for a real service, but a family deciding between forty hours at AED 300 and eighteen hours at AED 650 should normally take the forty, because chemistry marks accumulate with contact time and with the number of marked papers, not with the reputation attached to the hour.

The in-home rows sit apart from this ladder because they bundle a car journey into the rate. Bestimate quotes in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors up to AED 500. The difference against an equivalent online rate is roughly AED 30 to 150 an hour and it pays for driving, not for chemistry. All of these figures were published by the providers named and are dated October 2026. None of them is our price.

02

The current chemistry syllabus, Structure and Reactivity

  • Structure 1-3: particulate nature, bonding and structure, classification of matter
  • Reactivity 1-3: what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far, mechanisms
  • Paper 1 36%, Paper 2 44%, scientific investigation 20%
  • A mole-reasoning gap reappears in equilibrium and in redox; close it once

The syllabus introduced in 2023 and first examined in 2025 abandoned the old option topics and reorganised everything into two strands. Structure 1 covers models of the particulate nature of matter, including the mole concept and atomic structure. Structure 2 covers models of bonding and structure — ionic, covalent and metallic models and the behaviour that follows from them. Structure 3 covers classification of matter, including the periodic table and the organic families. Reactivity 1 asks what drives chemical reactions, which is the energetics and thermodynamics material. Reactivity 2 asks how much, how fast and how far, which is equilibrium and kinetics. Reactivity 3 asks what the mechanisms of chemical change are, covering redox, acid-base and organic mechanisms.

Assessment is Paper 1 at 36% of the final grade, split into Paper 1A multiple choice and Paper 1B data-based questions, with the data booklet available; Paper 2 at 44%, short and extended response; and the scientific investigation at 20%. Higher Level candidates sit the same components over longer durations and across additional content in both strands rather than in a separate option paper.

Two practical consequences follow for a Jumeirah 2 student. First, the reorganisation means older revision material maps imperfectly onto the current course, and a tutor working from pre-2023 notes will spend hours on emphases that have moved. Ask directly whether a prospective tutor teaches the current structure, by name. Second, because the strands are integrated rather than compartmentalised, a weakness in Structure 1 mole reasoning reappears in Reactivity 2 equilibrium calculations and again in Reactivity 3 redox titrations. One cheap gap, closed once, pays three times.

The data booklet deserves a mention of its own. Students lose marks by not knowing what is in it, so they memorise constants that are provided and fail to look up values that are. Twenty minutes with the booklet and a highlighter is one of the highest-return unpaid activities in the subject.

03

Organic chemistry and the mechanisms students get wrong

  • Curly arrows drawn from the atom instead of from the bond or electron pair
  • Substitution answered without stating whether it is one step or two
  • Electrophilic addition written with no carbocation intermediate
  • Isomerism answers where the two drawn structures are the same molecule

Organic chemistry is the topic Jumeirah 2 parents name most often when they call, and the complaint is nearly always the same: the student can recite the reactions and cannot answer the question. That is a diagnosable pattern rather than a vague difficulty. The marks in Reactivity 3 go to the mechanism — which bond breaks, where the electrons go, what the intermediate is — and students who have learned reagent-to-product pairs by rote have memorised the two ends of a process whose middle is what gets assessed.

The specific failures recur. Curly arrows drawn from the atom rather than from the electron pair or the bond, which loses the mark even when the overall mechanism is right. Nucleophilic substitution answered without saying whether it proceeds through one step or two, when the halogenoalkane's structure is the entire point of the question. Electrophilic addition to an alkene written without the carbocation intermediate. Condensation and hydrolysis confused in both directions. Isomerism questions where the student identifies the type correctly and then draws two structures that are in fact the same molecule.

All of these respond quickly to teaching because they are notation and reasoning problems, not knowledge problems. A student who already knows the reactions can usually be moved up a band in four to six focused hours, which makes organic chemistry one of the cheaper things to fix in this subject. The expensive problems are the quantitative ones: a student who is genuinely unsure about moles needs weeks, not hours, and should be bought at the lower rate for longer rather than at the specialist rate briefly.

A warning about how organic chemistry gets sold. It is the topic most often named in advertising because it is the topic parents fear, and a provider who leads with it is leading with your anxiety rather than with your child's diagnosis. Ask for the marked script to be read first. If organic chemistry is not where the marks are going, do not buy hours on it.

04

The scientific investigation: twenty-four marks and four criteria

  • Research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation: six marks each
  • Evaluation and research design are where marks are usually lost
  • Titration repeats, concordant titres and a stated tolerance belong in the design
  • The student writes every word; the tutor questions and gives feedback

The internally assessed scientific investigation is 20% of the chemistry grade. It is one independent piece of experimental work, reported in no more than 3,000 words, assessed against four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Twenty-four marks in total. If a family has a small chemistry budget, this is where it belongs, and it should be spent before any data is collected rather than after the draft exists.

What goes wrong is consistent across cohorts. Research design loses marks because the question is too broad to produce a measurable relationship, or because the controlled variables are listed without a stated reason for controlling each one. Evaluation loses marks because students write a list of weaknesses rather than explaining how each weakness would push the result in a particular direction and by roughly how much. Data analysis and conclusion are usually the stronger two, which is the opposite of what most parents assume.

The chemistry-specific version of good design is worth stating. A titration investigation needs enough repeats for a meaningful mean and a stated tolerance for concordant titres. A rates investigation needs a concentration range wide enough to show a trend and a method of timing that does not depend on judging a colour change by eye. An energetics investigation needs the heat loss to the surroundings acknowledged in the design rather than apologised for in the evaluation. These are the decisions six hours of supervision buys.

The boundary is absolute and we state it to the student in the first session. A tutor may interrogate the research question, teach uncertainty handling, explain what each criterion rewards and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of the investigation. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at around AED 3,750; for the student that is a malpractice finding that can cost the whole Diploma, which is a much larger loss than twenty-four marks.

05

A two-year chemistry budget for a Jumeirah 2 household

Set the tutoring figure beside the school fee and the numbers stop feeling abstract. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, American at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within AED 2.5 billion in total. For a Jumeirah 2 family that fee freeze is the first year in some time where a tutoring line can be added without a fee rise absorbing it.

A sensible two-year chemistry plan on the figures above comes to somewhere between AED 7,000 and AED 20,000 depending on the band chosen and whether the school is doing its job. That is a real amount of money and it deserves the same scrutiny as any other annual household commitment. The cheapest effective version — a diagnostic block, an investigation block, and a weekly exam-term slot in the final spring — lands near the bottom of that range. The most common version, which is panic buying at the specialist rate in the final three months, lands near the top and achieves less.

Two line items that families forget. Private candidate exam entry, if a student ends up entering outside their school, is a separate cost paid to the centre rather than to a tutor. And a second subject: almost nobody buys chemistry alone, so the honest budget question is what three sciences plus maths will cost together, not what chemistry costs.

We do not publish a fixed price list on these pages, because the rate varies with level, subject and session length and an invented figure would be worse than none. We quote in AED in writing before anything is booked, we do not take card details before the free trial, and we will say when a cheaper option would do the same work.

Scheduling chemistry around the Jumeirah 2 week and Ramadan

  • Higher Level students here are often unavailable before 5:30pm; book accordingly
  • Al Wasl and Beach Road are slowest 4pm to 5:30pm, the hour an arriving tutor needs
  • Ramadan sessions move post-iftar, agreed in writing before the month starts
  • Get the school's internal investigation deadline in writing in the first Diploma year

Chemistry sessions in this district run later than any other subject, for a practical reason: Diploma students carry the heaviest afternoon co-curricular load, and the schools they attend finish between 3:05pm and 3:20pm with commitments often running to 4:30pm. A Jumeirah 2 Higher Level student is frequently not available before 5:30pm, and families who book a 4pm slot discover within a month that it collides with something immovable.

The Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road corridors are slowest between 4pm and 5:30pm, which is exactly the window an arriving tutor would need. Because our lessons run over live video, that hour is simply not a factor: a 6pm or 7pm start costs nothing extra, holds reliably and does not require anybody to leave early to beat traffic. Families travelling between the UAE and abroad in the long breaks keep the same slot, adjusted for the time difference, rather than pausing for a month.

Ramadan reshapes everything. School hours shorten, the household rhythm moves around iftar, and an afternoon slot that worked in February stops working entirely. Most families in this district move chemistry to a post-iftar evening session, and a smaller number move to a short mid-morning slot at the weekend. The useful discipline is to agree the Ramadan arrangement in writing before the month starts rather than improvising week by week, because the weeks that get improvised are the weeks that get skipped.

One more calendar note specific to the Diploma. The internal deadline for the scientific investigation differs by months between schools in the Jumeirah and Al Sufouh ring, and at some schools it falls in the final term of the first Diploma year rather than in the second. Ask the chemistry teacher for that date in writing at the start of the first year. It is the single most important date in a chemistry budget and almost no family knows it when they first call.

07

Medicine and engineering applications: when Higher Level chemistry is not optional

  • Most UK medicine courses require Chemistry at Higher Level at a specified grade
  • Engineering usually wants Physics HL with Analysis and Approaches; chemistry optional
  • Level changes are normally only possible in the first term of the first Diploma year
  • No tutor can promise a grade or a place; treat any such offer with real scepticism

A significant share of the chemistry enquiries from this district are really university enquiries. The question behind them is whether Standard Level will be accepted, and the answer depends entirely on the target country and course rather than on anything a tutor can influence. Most medicine programmes in the United Kingdom require Chemistry at Higher Level, usually at a specified grade, and many require a second science or mathematics alongside it. Engineering programmes generally want Physics at Higher Level with Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, with chemistry optional.

The decision point is early. Subject changes between Higher and Standard Level are normally possible only in the first term of the first Diploma year, so a student who discovers in the second year that their target course needed Higher Level chemistry has run out of options other than a gap year. The practical advice for a Jumeirah 2 family is to read the prerequisite pages of six target programmes during the first autumn term, write down the Higher Level requirements, and treat that list as the subject plan.

What this changes about buying tuition is the timing rather than the amount. A student who must hold Higher Level chemistry for medicine cannot afford to drift through the first year and catch up in the second, because the first year contains the investigation and the foundation that the second year's content assumes. Those are the families for whom a steady modest arrangement across both years genuinely beats a large block at the end.

A caution that matters. No tutor can guarantee a grade, and nobody can promise a university place. Any provider who attaches an outcome to a price in this context is selling something they cannot deliver, and in a medicine application the stakes make that a particularly expensive thing to believe. We will tell you what a plan can realistically address and what it cannot.

08

Who regulates your child's school, and what a tutor's permit means

Dubai private schools are regulated by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not only inspection sits at emirate level.

For an individual tutor the relevant body is MoHRE rather than any education regulator. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website and e-services system. Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

A tutoring business with premises and staff is a different matter again and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a six-month maximum to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold that permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and does not describe itself as having approval from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Any page claiming such approval should be asked for the number.

One rule worth knowing even in Dubai. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat the ADEK wording as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document. The principle applies generally: do not arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them for a fee.

Jumeirah 2 and the districts that share its schools

Diploma chemistry cohorts here are drawn from a continuous coastal strip, so families several streets apart are often working to the same internal deadlines.

Jumeirah 2

Villa streets between Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road. No Diploma school inside the district, so chemistry students travel inland to Al Safa or along the coast to Al Sufouh each day.

Jumeirah 1

North-east towards City Walk and La Mer, nearest to Emirates International School Jumeirah. The shortest Diploma commute in the cluster and the one case where an in-home arrangement is logistically simple.

Jumeirah 3

South-west towards Al Safa 2 and the Jumeirah English Speaking School catchment. Shares Beach Road with Jumeirah 2 and the same late-afternoon constraint.

Al Safa

Immediately inland, and the densest school cluster near Jumeirah 2. Group chemistry classes in this area fill fastest, which is why they are also the ones most likely to contain students with four different gaps.

Umm Suqeim

Along the coast towards Burj Al Arab, with Kings' School Dubai and Raffles World Academy nearby. The longest afternoon run in this cluster, and the district where the in-home travel premium is highest.

Al Manara

Inland towards Sheikh Zayed Road, feeding the Al Barsha schools. Chemistry students here keep later session times than Jumeirah 2 and often share a tutor's evening slot.

Palm Jumeirah

Offshore to the west on a single trunk road. Any tutor quoting a door-to-door rate here is pricing that road twice, which is the clearest illustration of what the in-home premium pays for.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Try the free options first

Before you book anything, send your child to the school chemistry clinic for three weeks with written questions, and sort three marked scripts into content, reasoning, arithmetic and misreading. If the reasoning pile is the largest, we will tell you so and the plan gets shorter and cheaper.

  2. 02

Send us a marked script and the level

Standard or Higher Level, which term, whether the scientific investigation has been submitted, and one marked paper. That is enough to say what the remaining time can act on and what is already fixed.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson

A 45 to 60 minute one-to-one session over live video at no cost, with no card details taken beforehand. The tutor diagnoses against the mark scheme rather than teaching broadly, and you get a written note afterwards.

  4. 04

Buy a block, not a subscription

We quote a defined number of hours against named objectives in AED in writing, with an end date. A plan that never finishes is selling months rather than marks, and chemistry plans should finish.

  5. 05

    Measure it monthly

One complete paper a month, sat under timed conditions and marked against the official mark scheme, with the score recorded. Session notes are not evidence; a score that moves is.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The cheaper options named before ours

The school clinic, a sort of three marked scripts, honest past-paper marking and a group class all come before one-to-one on this page, in that order. Two of them cost nothing and one of them works often enough that we will sometimes recommend it instead of a booking.

Rates read from the bottom up

Every band on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and dated October 2026, arranged cheapest first so each price step has to justify itself. None of these figures is our price; ours is confirmed in AED in writing before anything is booked.

Taught on the current syllabus by name

Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, as introduced in 2023 and first examined in 2025. A tutor working from pre-2023 material will spend paid hours on emphases that have moved, and this is a question worth asking any provider directly.

The investigation treated as the priority it is

Twenty per cent of the grade, four criteria at six marks each, and immovable after submission. We place those hours at the design stage and we will say plainly when a family has called too late for them to help.

No travel inside the rate

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so nothing in the price pays for Al Wasl Road at 4:30pm. The published in-home premium of AED 30 to 150 an hour is a travel charge and we would rather you spent it on more hours.

A stated honesty boundary and no guarantees

The tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. No coursework is written or completed for a student. No grade, score or university place is promised, and any provider attaching an outcome to a price is selling what it cannot deliver.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 2: your questions answered

What is the cheapest way to get IB chemistry help in Jumeirah 2?+

The school's own chemistry clinic, attended for a term with questions written down beforehand, costs nothing and closes two or three topic gaps for a committed student. After that, sorting three marked scripts into content errors, missing reasoning, arithmetic slips and misread questions gives you a diagnosis a tutor would charge for. A centre group class at roughly AED 80 to 200 per student per hour is next, and it works only if everyone in the group shares the same gap. One-to-one tuition is the fourth step, not the first.

What does an IB chemistry tutor charge in Dubai, from the lowest band up?+

Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both at the university-student tier. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270, and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist rates at AED 200 to 450 and above. BartyED sits at around AED 650. In-home one-to-one runs AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 with independent tutors. Those are market figures published in October 2026, not our prices.

Which chemistry topics should a Jumeirah 2 parent actually pay to fix?+

Notation and reasoning problems, because they move fastest. A student who can recite organic reactions but cannot draw a mechanism usually improves a band in four to six focused hours: curly arrows from the bond rather than the atom, substitution answered as one step or two, a carbocation intermediate shown in electrophilic addition. Genuine mole-reasoning weakness is the expensive case and needs weeks rather than hours, so buy it at a lower band for longer. Pay for a marked script to be read before you pay for any topic.

How is IB Chemistry assessed on the current syllabus?+

Content is organised as Structure 1 to 3 — the particulate nature of matter, bonding and structure, and classification of matter — and Reactivity 1 to 3 — what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and mechanisms of chemical change. Paper 1 is 36% of the grade and splits into multiple choice and data-based sections with the data booklet available. Paper 2, short and extended response, is 44%. The internally assessed scientific investigation is 20%. Higher Level sits the same components over longer durations with additional content in both strands.

Why does the scientific investigation deserve the first part of a chemistry budget?+

It is 20% of the final grade, assessed against four criteria worth six marks each, and it cannot be changed after submission. Six hours at the design stage, before any data is collected, routinely moves a student up a band on research design and evaluation. Students lose marks by asking a question too broad to produce a relationship and by listing weaknesses instead of explaining how each would shift the result. Money spent on chemistry after the submission date cannot touch that fifth of the grade at all.

Will a chemistry tutor help write my child's Internal Assessment?+

No, and nobody should. A tutor may interrogate the research question, teach uncertainty handling, explain what each assessment criterion rewards and give feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of it. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at around AED 3,750, which is an academic-integrity breach and for the student a malpractice finding that can cost the whole Diploma. We state this boundary to the student in the first session.

Is a small group chemistry class good value in the Al Safa area?+

It depends entirely on whether the group shares one gap. Four students who all struggle with equilibrium calculations get close to one-to-one value at roughly a third of the price. Four students with four different weaknesses get a lecture, and the one whose problem is organic mechanisms sits through ninety minutes of titration arithmetic. Ask the centre what the group's common topic is before enrolling, and ask how many are in it. Group classes in the Al Safa cluster fill quickly, which is also why they are frequently mixed.

Does the published hourly rate for chemistry tuition include VAT?+

Providers differ and it is worth settling before the first invoice rather than after. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as fact on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring page's assurance. What we will do is quote our own figure in AED in writing and say whether that figure is the total payable. The single useful question to put to any provider is whether the number quoted is the number that appears on the invoice.

Does IB Gram send a chemistry tutor to homes in Jumeirah 2?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video with a shared screen. In-home chemistry tuition is a genuine option in Dubai, quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, and the difference against an equivalent online rate is a travel charge of roughly AED 30 to 150 an hour. We would rather that money bought additional hours than a drive along Al Wasl Road.

How much should two years of Diploma chemistry support cost in total?+

On the published bands, a sensible plan lands between roughly AED 7,000 and AED 20,000 across two years. The cheapest effective version is a three to four hour diagnostic block, a six-hour investigation block in the first year, and a weekly slot through the final spring term. The most common version is panic buying at the specialist rate in the final three months, which lands near the top of that range and achieves less because the investigation mark is already fixed. Our figure is quoted in AED in writing before booking.

What time can chemistry sessions start for a Diploma student in Jumeirah 2?+

Later than most parents expect. Diploma students here carry the heaviest co-curricular load, schools in the Al Safa and Al Sufouh ring finish between about 3:05pm and 3:20pm, and commitments often run to 4:30pm, so a Higher Level student is frequently unavailable before 5:30pm. Because lessons run over live video, a 6pm or 7pm start costs nothing extra and holds reliably, with no travel to coordinate at the worst hour on Al Wasl Road. Families who book 4pm usually find it collides with something immovable.

Can chemistry lessons continue through Ramadan and the summer break?+

Yes, and both usually need a different slot rather than a pause. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the household day reorganises around iftar, so most families here move chemistry to a post-iftar evening session or a short weekend morning. We agree that arrangement in writing before the month begins, because improvised weeks are skipped weeks. Over the summer, families travelling abroad keep the same tutor with the slot adjusted for the time difference, which is only possible because nobody has to be in the same city.

Do we need Higher Level chemistry for a medicine application from Dubai?+

Most United Kingdom medicine programmes require Chemistry at Higher Level at a specified grade, and many require a second science or mathematics alongside it. Requirements differ by country and by course, so read the prerequisite pages of six target programmes in the first autumn term and write the Higher Level requirements down. The reason timing matters is that level changes are normally only possible in the first term of the first Diploma year. Nobody can promise a grade or a place, and any provider attaching an outcome to a price is selling what it cannot deliver.

Does a chemistry tutor working with a Dubai family need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, no provider should quote you an amount.

Is IB Gram accredited by KHDA to provide chemistry tuition in Dubai?+

No. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and a six-month maximum to complete the permit and licence steps. We do not hold one, we operate no UAE office or centre, and we do not describe ourselves as approved by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We are an independent tutor-matching platform delivering one-to-one lessons over live video. Ask any provider claiming otherwise to produce the permit number.

What happens if no Higher Level chemistry specialist is free when we call?+

We tell you rather than substituting quietly. Higher Level chemistry with investigation experience is one of the narrower specialisms we match, and there are weeks when nobody who has marked against the published criteria has a free 6pm Gulf Standard Time slot. In that case we say what is actually available, what the wait would be, and whether a Standard Level specialist could usefully cover shared content meanwhile. Disclosing a coverage limit is a trust decision; no competitor page in this market discloses one at all.

Spend the free options before the paid ones

If you are looking at IB Chemistry support in Jumeirah 2, work down this page in order. Three weeks at the school clinic, an evening sorting three marked scripts, then a group class if the group shares your child's gap, and only then one-to-one hours bought at the band that matches the job. When you reach that point, send us the level, the term, whether the scientific investigation has been submitted, and one marked paper. We will quote in AED in writing, start with a free trial over live video with no card details taken, and tell you honestly if something cheaper would do the same work.
