IB Home Tutor in Jumeirah 2

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Jumeirah 2 are usually asking one question: is there anybody near us who genuinely knows this syllabus? This page answers it properly. A Diploma student is matched on a combination of six subjects at two levels, not on a subject, and that is what makes proximity the wrong filter. What follows is the supply picture group by group, how to verify somebody you have never met, what an in-home arrangement really involves, and why lessons here are taught live online instead.

  • Matched on the exact subject and level combination, not on postcode
  • Permit, qualification and examiner claims put in writing before booking
  • One free trial lesson, nothing payable and no card details taken
  • Home visits are an India-only service; UAE lessons are live online

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 2

What the search is actually asking, and the honest answer to it

A parent typing IB home tutor into a search box in Jumeirah 2 is rarely asking for a specific delivery method. They are asking a harder question: is there anybody within reach who actually understands the course my child is sitting? The honest answer is that it depends entirely on the course, because an IB Diploma student is not a generic student. They are a combination of six subjects at two different levels, plus Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and CAS, and the combination is what has to be matched.

That is why distance is the wrong filter. A Jumeirah 2 villa sits a short drive from the Umm Suqeim schools and a longer one from Al Barsha, so a radius of twenty minutes feels generous. Applied to a Diploma student it is not. A radius selects for people who are willing to drive at six in the evening. It does not select for people who have taught Higher Level Economics, marked a Chemistry investigation against criterion D, or seen what a Paper 1 unseen commentary in English A Language and Literature is marked against.

The second thing the search cannot see is the difference between a subject and a level. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework; it has additional content, longer papers and extended-response questions that reward sustained reasoning. A tutor comfortable at Standard Level may be out of their depth two months into the Higher Level course, and that becomes apparent in February rather than in October. Matching on subject alone produces exactly this failure, and it is the commonest complaint families bring from a previous arrangement.

There is a straightforward structural reason the local pool is thin. Dubai had 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools in 2024-25 offering seventeen curricula, with UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. A minority programme produces a minority teaching workforce, and that workforce is concentrated around the schools that run it. Spread that across six subject groups and two levels and the number of people in any one neighbourhood who can teach any one combination is small.

So this page does three things. It sets out, group by group, what a generalist gets wrong in a Diploma subject, so a parent can judge a candidate rather than hope. It gives a verification routine for somebody you have not met: the permit, the qualification, the examiner claim and the reference, with what a straight answer sounds like. And it describes what an in-home arrangement in Jumeirah 2 actually involves, in minutes and dirhams, against the online alternative.

The delivery position is stated plainly up front. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Jumeirah 2 address, or to any address in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons here run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. That is not a limitation dressed as a feature. It is the thing that allows the match to be made on the syllabus, because the pool stops being everybody who will drive to Jumeirah and becomes everybody who teaches the course.

At a glance

  • A Diploma student is a combination of six subjects at two levels, not one subject
  • Higher Level has extra content and longer papers, not more homework
  • The International Baccalaureate is about 7 per cent of Dubai private enrolment
  • A distance filter selects for willingness to drive, not for syllabus knowledge
  • In-home one-to-one in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included
  • IB Gram delivers UAE lessons online; home visits are offered only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as a continuum, and which stage a Jumeirah 2 student is at changes what matching means. A Primary Years pupil needs a good teacher; a Diploma student in the second year of three Higher Levels needs a named specialist in a named course. The four stages below are set out with what that difference looks like in practice.

PYPAges 3-12 · PYP Early Years to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry organised around units rather than subjects, with no external examinations and no subject specialism to match. Support at this stage is about literacy, numeracy and the habits of independent work, and a strong primary teacher is a better match than a subject specialist. The exhibition in the final year is the first piece of extended independent work most students meet.

Matching is easy at this stage and families in Jumeirah 2 rarely struggle to find help, which is why the frustration described on this page tends to arrive later. A parent who found a good primary tutor through a neighbour in Jumeirah 2 reasonably expects the same route to work for a Higher Level Diploma subject, and it does not, for reasons that have nothing to do with the neighbour.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP Years 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, with task-specific clarifications written by the teacher. Matching now needs a tutor who understands criterion marking, because an MYP grade is produced by criteria rather than by a percentage, and a tutor who teaches content well but cannot read a criterion rubric will not move the reported grade.

Dubai MYP students at the Umm Suqeim and Al Barsha continuum schools reach Year 5 with strong investigation skills and uneven content coverage, which is a predictable curriculum seam rather than a failure. It is also the point at which a Jumeirah 2 family starts needing a tutor who knows the programme rather than one who knows the subject.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, one from each of the first five groups plus a sixth, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, all graded 1 to 7. Added to that are Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with up to three points available from the first two. The maximum is 45. This is the stage where matching becomes a combination problem rather than a subject problem.

Jumeirah 2 Diploma students commute to Raffles World Academy or Emirates International School in the Umm Suqeim cluster, to Jumeirah Baccalaureate School on the next road but one, or inland to Dubai International Academy and Dubai American Academy. Each school runs its own option blocks, so two neighbours in the same street can have combinations that need entirely different tutors.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses taken alongside a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and language development. Offered by a small number of schools, and when it is, the Diploma subjects inside it are marked exactly as they are in the full Diploma, so subject matching works the same way.

The Career-related Programme is run by very few Dubai schools, which makes a student taking it the hardest of all to match locally. It is also the case where naming the exact Diploma courses inside the programme matters most, because those are the components a tutor can genuinely support and the rest is school-supervised.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This is the list a Jumeirah 2 household is actually choosing from, grouped the way the Diploma groups it. The description on each is what a tutor has to understand about the assessment, because that is the difference between a subject graduate and somebody who can move a Diploma grade.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL · Group 1

Paper 1 unseen textual analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral, and an additional HL essay. A tutor has to know the assessment criteria and the learner portfolio, because Paper 1 is a timed skill rather than a body of revisable content.

French, Spanish and Arabic B

SL and HL · Group 2

Productive, receptive and interactive skills, with a written assignment and an individual oral built on a stimulus. The marks turn on range and accuracy under the published descriptors, so a fluent speaker without the criteria is not yet a tutor for it.

Economics

SL and HL · Group 3

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, plus three internal assessment commentaries on published news articles. The commentary is where most of the recoverable marks sit, and the diagram conventions are specific and examined.

Business Management

SL and HL · Group 3

Business organisation, human resources, finance, marketing and operations, with a research project at Higher Level. The quantitative tools are examined precisely, and students lose marks applying a tool correctly to the wrong kind of decision.

History and Geography

SL and HL · Group 3

Source-based paper work, essay papers and the historical investigation or fieldwork report. The marks reward argument structure and the handling of sources, both of which are learnable and neither of which is content knowledge.

Chemistry

SL and HL · Group 4

Structure 1-3 and Reactivity 1-3, Paper 1 at 36 per cent, Paper 2 at 44, and a 24-mark scientific investigation. The data booklet is supplied in the examination, which changes what has to be memorised and what has to be found fast.

Physics

SL and HL · Group 4

Five themes with Higher Level extensions, the same assessment shape, and a scientific investigation. Uncertainty arithmetic and command-term discipline account for more lost marks here than any content gap does.

Biology

SL and HL · Group 4

Unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and interdependence, continuity and change. The lightest calculation load of the three sciences and the heaviest demand on precise use of describe, explain and suggest.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL · Group 5

Calculus, trigonometry, proof and algebra, with a mathematical exploration. Higher Level is a substantial step and the unstructured questions, where nothing signals which tool is wanted, are where the grade is decided.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL · Group 5

Modelling, statistics and technology-led solutions, with the same exploration. A different course rather than an easier one, and the statistics at Higher Level surprises students who chose it to avoid calculus.

Visual Arts and Music

SL and HL · Group 6

Portfolio, exhibition or performance work assessed against published criteria, with substantial coursework components. These are the hardest subjects to match locally and the ones where a school's own department does most of the work.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Diploma core

Up to three points on the diploma total. Support is process coaching only: framing a knowledge question, narrowing a research question until it can be answered, and reading a draft to ask what the evidence has not yet established.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four arrangements are available to a Jumeirah 2 household, and they differ in what they can match rather than in teaching style. The right question about each is not whether it is convenient but which pool of teachers it draws from.

Online one-to-one, matched on the combination

A fixed weekly hour over live video with a tutor chosen for the named subject at the named level. This is what IB Gram delivers in the UAE. The pool is everybody who teaches that course on a compatible timetable rather than everybody willing to drive to Jumeirah, which is the whole reason it can match a third Higher Level at all.

  • Matched to subject and level, confirmed in writing before booking
  • Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time, no travel either side
  • Shared whiteboard, the student's own marked script on screen
  • Session can be rewatched before a mock or a deadline

The in-home market, described rather than sold

Visiting tutors do operate across Dubai and are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. What a family gets is physical presence and a tutor who can see the desk. What it costs beyond the rate is the pool: only people prepared to drive to Jumeirah 2 at six in the evening are candidates, which for a niche Higher Level is often nobody. IB Gram does not sell this in the UAE.

  • Quoted in Dubai at AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included
  • Minimum session lengths are common, often ninety minutes
  • The candidate pool narrows to those willing to make the drive
  • Offered by IB Gram only in India, not anywhere in the UAE

Small group or centre classes

Tuition centres in Dubai run group classes at a lower price per student, and for a Standard Level subject with a common syllabus that can be reasonable value. For a Diploma combination it rarely works, because a group has to be taught at one level on one scheme of work, and six students from four schools do not share one.

  • Lower cost per student than one-to-one
  • Works where the syllabus and level are genuinely shared
  • Poor fit for Higher Level or for school-specific option blocks
  • A centre with premises needs its own KHDA training-institute permit

Short diagnostic engagements

Two or three sessions bought deliberately as an assessment rather than as teaching: a marked script read properly, a draft investigation discussed, a judgement on whether the gap is content, level or technique. Useful when a previous arrangement has failed and nobody can say why, which is a common reason families reach this page.

  • Two or three sessions, no term commitment
  • Opens on the student's own marked work
  • Produces a written judgement rather than a lesson plan
  • Often the cheapest way to stop spending on the wrong thing

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Jumeirah 2

The tutors below teach IB Diploma and Middle Years subjects to students across Dubai, matched to a named subject at a named level rather than to a general description. Sessions are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is what allows a Jumeirah 2 household to be matched on the syllabus rather than on who is willing to drive.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 2

01

Why the answer depends on the combination, not the subject

  • Write down all six subjects with their levels before approaching anybody
  • Name the component that is losing marks, not the subject
  • Expect option blocks to differ between two neighbouring Dubai schools
  • Treat a neighbour's recommendation as a starting point, not a match
  • Ask one assessment-specific question and listen to the shape of the answer

The Diploma is structured as six subjects taken from groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, with grades from 1 to 7, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The subject grades give a maximum of 42 and the core adds up to 3, for the familiar total of 45. A tutor is therefore never matched to a student; they are matched to one cell in that structure, and the cell has two coordinates, subject and level.

This matters because schools build option blocks, and option blocks differ. One Dubai school may run Higher Level Economics against Higher Level Chemistry, so a student cannot take both; another may not. The consequence is that two Diploma students living in the same Jumeirah 2 street can hold combinations with almost nothing in common, and a tutor who was excellent for one neighbour's child may be entirely wrong for the next. Recommendations passed between families fail for this reason far more often than for any failure of the tutor.

The level coordinate is the one that gets lost. Higher Level in most subjects adds content, lengthens the papers and introduces extended-response questions that are marked for sustained reasoning rather than for a single correct statement. Somebody who is genuinely comfortable at Standard Level can teach for two months before the difference shows, and what a parent then sees is not a mismatch but a student who seems to have stopped improving.

What follows from all of this is a practical instruction. Before any arrangement is made, write down the six subjects with their levels, the school, and which component is currently losing marks. Then ask a candidate about that specific component. Asking whether somebody teaches chemistry is nearly useless; asking what criterion D of the scientific investigation actually rewards is close to decisive, and takes about ninety seconds to evaluate.

02

What a generalist gets wrong, group by group

A subject graduate who has never taught the Diploma does not fail because of weak subject knowledge. They fail in a specific, predictable way: they teach the content and miss the assessment. Each Diploma group has its own version of this, and knowing them turns a vague worry into a question a parent can actually ask.

In group 1 the failure is treating English as literature appreciation. Paper 1 is an unseen commentary marked against criteria that reward analysis of how a text produces its effects, and a tutor who discusses themes without the criteria produces confident essays that score in the middle. In group 2 the failure is fluency: a native speaker without the descriptors will correct a student's French and never mention that the individual oral is marked on interaction as a distinct strand.

Group 3 fails on the internal assessment. The Economics commentaries have specific requirements about article date, diagram use and word limit, and a tutor who has not read them will coach good economics into a piece that loses marks on compliance. In group 4 the failure is the scientific investigation and the data question: a chemist who has never marked against criteria A to D will not spot that a research question cannot be answered with the apparatus available.

Group 5 fails on the exploration and on unstructured questions, where no part (a) tells the student which tool to reach for. Group 6 is the hardest of all to support externally, because portfolio and performance work is assessed against criteria the school's own department interprets. In each case the question to ask is about the assessment artefact, not the content, and the table below is the version we work from.

03

The third Higher Level is the one that needs the specialist

In almost every Diploma timetable there is one subject the school teaches thinly. It is usually the third Higher Level: the one with the smallest cohort, sometimes taught in a combined class with Standard Level students, occasionally taught by a teacher covering outside their main specialism. This is not a criticism of Dubai schools. It is arithmetic. A school with seven Diploma students taking Higher Level Economics cannot staff it the way it staffs Higher Level Mathematics.

That subject is where tutoring produces the clearest return, and it is also the hardest to match locally, for the same reason it is thinly taught: there are few people nearby who teach it. A parent who approaches the problem by distance will find somebody for the subjects the school already teaches well and nobody for the one that matters. That inversion is the single most useful thing on this page.

Identifying the thin subject is usually easy once a family looks. The signals are consistent: a combined class with another level, a teacher who also teaches a different subject, a cohort small enough to name, no past-paper programme, or a report that is noticeably less specific than the others. Any one of those is worth a question to the school, and the school will generally answer it straightforwardly.

The honest caveat belongs here too. A thinly taught subject is thinly taught everywhere, which means availability is genuinely constrained rather than rhetorically constrained. Where no UAE-based specialist is free in a household's slot, what we offer is an IB specialist teaching the same syllabus from elsewhere, on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before anything is booked. The alternative, which several providers choose, is to accept the booking and send a generalist, and that costs a term before anybody notices.

04

What a distance filter actually selects for

It is worth being specific about what a twenty-minute radius around Jumeirah 2 contains and excludes, because the filter feels like it selects for convenience and in fact selects for something else entirely. Inside the radius are the Jumeirah strip, Al Safa, Al Wasl, Umm Suqeim and the edge of Al Sufouh. That is a substantial teaching population, and most of it works in British-curriculum and primary schools, because that is what the strip is made of.

So the people the filter returns are disproportionately excellent IGCSE and A Level teachers, primary specialists, and university students living nearby. The people it excludes are Diploma teachers at the inland campuses, anybody whose evening commute makes a 17:00 start impossible, and every specialist who happens to live in Sharjah or on the far side of the city. For a Diploma combination, the exclusion list is where the matches were.

The second thing a distance filter selects for is willingness rather than ability. A tutor prepared to drive forty minutes each way for a single hour is making an economic choice, and the rate has to carry the unpaid eighty minutes. That is precisely why the Dubai in-home band sits at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 online in published rate tables. The premium is travel, and it buys presence rather than expertise.

None of this argues that in-home tutoring is bad. It argues that distance is a filter applied to the wrong axis. The table below sets out what each available filter actually selects for, which is the practical way to decide which one a family should use. For a Primary Years pupil, proximity is a perfectly reasonable filter. For a third Higher Level in the second Diploma year, it is close to the worst available.

05

Verifying somebody you have not met

Online delivery means a parent in Jumeirah 2 is making a judgement about a person they will never be in a room with, and that deserves a routine rather than an instinct. Four claims are worth checking, and each has a verifiable version and a vague version. The difference between them is usually audible in the first two minutes.

The permit is the easiest. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation smart app, website or e-services under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because it is free and fast, there is no good reason for a UAE-based tutor not to hold one. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no schedule of amounts has been published.

Qualifications and experience should be stated as specifics: which subject, which level, which syllabus, how many cohorts, which components they have marked. Examiner status deserves particular care. A claim to be a current examiner for the IB, Cambridge or Pearson is a specific factual claim about a current appointment, and it should be evidenced rather than accepted. It also should not be used to imply access to mark schemes, grade boundaries or paper content, because it does not confer that.

Finally, there are two claims nobody can substantiate and which should end a conversation. Any promise of a specific grade or a guaranteed improvement is not a service, it is a sales line, and any accreditation claim involving KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson should be met with a request for the permit or centre number. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises; that is a real document with a real reference, and a provider who holds one can produce it.

What an in-home arrangement in Jumeirah 2 actually involves

Describing in-home tutoring honestly is more useful than arguing against it, so here is what the arrangement involves for a villa in Jumeirah 2. A tutor driving from Al Barsha arrives between 17:30 and 18:15 depending on Sheikh Zayed Road, parks on the street, and teaches for sixty or ninety minutes. Minimum session lengths are common in this market precisely because a sixty-minute visit is not economic once travel is counted. Published monthly in-home packages in Dubai run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions.

What the family gets is real. Somebody can see the desk, the phone, the lighting and whether the student is actually working between sessions. For a younger child, or for a student with attention difficulties, physical presence genuinely helps, and no amount of video replaces an adult in the room. These are reasons families choose it and they should be respected rather than argued down.

What the family pays, beyond the rate, is the candidate pool. Only people willing to make that drive at that hour are available, which for a third Higher Level in a small-cohort subject is frequently nobody at all. Families then accept a generalist because they are the one who will come, and the mismatch surfaces in February. The travel premium in the published bands is paying for the journey, not for Diploma experience.

IB Gram does not sell in-home tuition anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for a Jumeirah 2 household are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's marked script and a shared whiteboard on screen and the option to rewatch the session. The comparison table below sets the three delivery models against each other with the Jumeirah 2 logistics filled in, so the trade is visible rather than asserted.

What the Dubai market charges, and what the travel premium buys

The gap between the in-home and online bands is the most informative number in this market, so start there. Published Dubai rate tables read in October 2026 put in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject teacher working online. The premium is somewhere between thirty and seventy per cent depending on where in each band a family lands, and every dirham of it is the journey.

That premium buys three things, and it is worth naming them so a family can decide whether they want them. It buys presence, which matters for younger students. It buys visibility of the working environment. And it buys the removal of a technology dependency, which is a real consideration for a household with unreliable connectivity. What it does not buy is a better teacher, and in a small-cohort subject it actively reduces the chance of getting one.

The rest of the market, for context. Budget online tutoring, typically university students, is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, which is about AED 240 to 600 a month on one weekly session. The IB and IGCSE specialist band runs about AED 200 to 450 and above, with monthly estimates for exam-year specialist support around AED 1,000 to 2,000 and more on two sessions a week. Premium named or examiner-led tutors are advertised at AED 500 to 650 and above. All of these are market figures, not an IB Gram price list.

One piece of context from the regulator is worth knowing while budgeting. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. And on VAT, the only figure any provider can honestly speak to is whether its own quoted price includes it; the general treatment of tuition fees should be checked with the Federal Tax Authority rather than taken from a tutoring page.

Where a tutor's help on Diploma coursework has to stop

Every Diploma student carries assessed work that must be their own: a scientific investigation in each science, a mathematical exploration, internal assessment commentaries in Economics, a historical investigation, an Extended Essay and a Theory of Knowledge essay. Each is supervised by a teacher at the school who confirms the work is the student's. That confirmation is why the boundary around a tutor's help is firm rather than a matter of style.

On the permitted side, a tutor may narrow a research question until it can be answered with the resources available, point out that a chosen variable is not controllable or that a chosen article does not meet the commentary requirements, explain what each criterion rewards and what it does not, teach the underlying content, and read a draft in order to ask questions about it. Questions are the instrument: which claim does your data not support, where is the counter-argument, why is this a correlation rather than a cause.

On the prohibited side, a tutor does not supply the research question as a finished product, process the data, write or rewrite any section, or return a corrected draft repeatedly until it is right. The student makes every change themselves. The research behind these pages found a site in this market selling completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, which is not a cheaper form of tutoring but a route to a candidate losing their diploma under IB academic-honesty rules.

The same principle covers materials. Syllabus guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are the property of the IB, Cambridge and Pearson. The right behaviour is to reference them and link to the official source, and to work in sessions from material the student or their school already has legitimate access to. A provider offering to send a library of papers and mark schemes is offering something they are not entitled to distribute, which is worth noticing for what it says about everything else.

Expat turnover: what happens when the local tutor leaves Dubai

  • Dubai teaching contracts commonly end in June, so July is a high-churn month
  • The DP1 to DP2 junction is the worst place to lose continuity
  • Keep a short running record of diagnosis, topics and evidence from session one
  • Ask for a copy; a handover document is a reasonable expectation
  • No provider can guarantee a particular individual stays available

There is a risk specific to this market that nobody writes about. Dubai's teaching workforce is mobile. Contracts end in June, families relocate, and a tutor who has worked with a student for a year can be gone by August. For a two-year Diploma that lands in the worst possible place: a student loses continuity between DP1 and DP2, which is exactly the junction where predicted grades and investigation deadlines arrive.

A family that has solved the matching problem locally has usually solved it with one person, and that is a single point of failure. The person was hard to find, is now familiar with the student's weaknesses and their school's scheme of work, and none of that is written down anywhere. When they leave, the search starts again from zero and the new tutor spends four sessions rediscovering what the previous one knew.

The practical defence is a written record rather than a different person. From the first session there should be a short running document: the components losing marks, the diagnosis of why, the topics rebuilt and the evidence they held, the school's deadline dates, and what the student does and does not do independently. It takes a few minutes per session and it means a handover is a handover rather than a restart. A parent is entitled to ask for this and to have a copy.

Platform delivery changes the shape of this risk rather than removing it. Tutors still move on, but a match is made from a pool rather than from a neighbourhood, so a replacement is a scheduling problem instead of a search. Where a replacement cannot be found at the same level in the same slot, the honest thing is to say so and offer the specific alternative available, which is what we do. No provider can promise continuity of a particular person, and any provider who does is promising something outside their control.

Where we tutor

Jumeirah 2 and the districts it shares schools with

These are the neighbourhoods whose Diploma students share campuses, buses and evening traffic with Jumeirah 2. Each note is about the matching problem rather than the view, because the practical question on this page is who could realistically teach a given combination from within reach.

Jumeirah 2

A villa district between Jumeirah 1 and Jumeirah 3 with no Diploma school inside it. Every DP student commutes, most households run a second school bus for a younger child, and the realistic session window opens around 17:00 and firms up at 18:30.

Jumeirah 1

Jumeirah Baccalaureate School sits here and runs the full continuum, so the nearest concentration of IB teaching to a Jumeirah 2 address is one district over. That is as close as local supply gets, and it still covers only the subjects that school staffs.

Jumeirah 3

Closest to the Umm Suqeim cluster and the shortest school run on the strip. Shares the same tutor pool as Jumeirah 2 in practice, which is why a recommendation passed between the two districts is as likely to miss as to land.

Umm Suqeim

Raffles World Academy and the Kings' schools draw from the whole corridor. The continuum schools here are where most of the IB teaching capacity within reach of Jumeirah 2 actually sits, and their option blocks shape which combinations are common locally.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

Jumeirah College and Horizon English School are British-curriculum, feeding IGCSE and A Level rather than the Diploma. A large nearby teaching workforce, almost none of it experienced in IB assessment, which is exactly how a distance filter misleads.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Dubai International Academy, Dubai American Academy and the Al Sufouh campuses hold the biggest pool of Diploma places and Diploma teachers reachable from Jumeirah 2. It is also a thirty-minute drive at six in the evening, each way.

Palm Jumeirah and Pearl Jumeira

Coastal addresses with no secondary provision, so every student commutes off the development. Families here face the same matching arithmetic as Jumeirah 2 with one more set of traffic constraints on top.

City Walk and Al Manara

Inland of the strip, feeding the same Al Safa, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha campuses. Households here are often the ones who arrive mid-DP2 after a previous arrangement failed on level rather than on subject.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah 2

The Jumeirah strip

Jumeirah 2 has no Diploma school of its own. The nearest IB continuum provision is one district over, and the rest of the strip is British-curriculum or primary, which is the structural reason a local search for an IB specialist returns so many people who teach something else well.

  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah
  • Horizon English School
  • Safa British School
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • Dubai Japanese School

Umm Suqeim, Umm Al Sheif and Al Sufouh

Where most Jumeirah 2 Diploma students study, and where the nearest real concentration of IB teaching capacity sits. Each school runs its own option blocks, so two students from the same street can need entirely different specialists.

  • Raffles World Academy
  • Emirates International School - Jumeirah
  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Dubai College
  • Jumeirah College
  • GEMS Jumeirah Primary School

Al Barsha and the inland campuses

The largest group of Diploma places and Diploma teachers within driving reach, and the furthest from a Jumeirah 2 villa at six in the evening. The travel arithmetic in the cost section of this page is built on this journey.

  • Dubai International Academy
  • Dubai American Academy
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha

Schools are named as context for the programmes and option blocks Jumeirah 2 students meet. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, examination board or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Write down all six subjects and their levels

Before approaching anybody, list the six Diploma subjects with Higher or Standard marked against each, the school, and the year group. This single sheet is what makes a match possible, and it is what distinguishes a conversation about your child from a conversation about tutoring in general.

  2. 02

Name the component that is losing marks

Not the subject, the component: Paper 1, the investigation, the commentary, the oral. A marked script is the best evidence and a photograph is enough. Families who can name the component get a usable answer in the first call; families who cannot spend the first three sessions finding out.

  3. 03

A short call to confirm the match is possible

Twenty minutes to establish the subject, the level, the school's scheme of work and the slot. If no specialist is available at that level in that window, that is said in the call rather than discovered later, and the specific alternative is named.

  4. 04

A free trial lesson on the student's own work

One lesson, nothing payable, no card details, built around a question or a draft the student has already been marked on. It shows whether the tutor knows the assessment rather than the subject. If the answer is no, a different tutor is proposed rather than the same one defended.

  5. 05

A written diagnosis after the trial

A short note naming the component, the cause of the losses, the first two priorities and the evidence that will show whether they moved. It is deliberately brief so that in four weeks it can be checked against results instead of reinterpreted.

  6. 06

A running record kept from session one

A few lines per session: what was taught, what was set, what the marked work showed. It costs minutes and it means that if a tutor leaves Dubai, or a second subject is added, the next person starts from the record rather than from the beginning.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level, in writing

A Diploma student is a combination, not a subject, and the level is half the match. The named subject and level are confirmed before booking, and if no specialist is free at that level in that slot it is said in the first call rather than discovered in February.

The thin subject gets the attention

In most Diploma timetables one subject, usually the third Higher Level, is taught in a small or combined class. That is where tutoring produces the clearest return and where local supply is thinnest, so it is the first thing we ask about rather than the last.

Verification you can actually perform

The permit, the qualification, the examiner claim and the component question are all checkable, and this page sets out what a straight answer sounds like. We would rather a parent interrogate a match than take one on trust, including a match we have proposed.

A boundary on assessed work, stated first

A tutor coaches the process around an investigation, exploration, commentary or Extended Essay and asks questions about drafts. A tutor does not write, process or correct them to completion. The school supervisor authenticates the work and the candidate carries the risk.

Honest about availability

Where no UAE-based specialist covers a combination in a household's slot, the alternative offered is an IB specialist teaching the same syllabus from elsewhere on Gulf Standard Time, and it is disclosed before booking. Accepting the booking and sending a generalist costs a term.

Clear about what IB Gram is not

An independent tutor-matching platform with no accreditation from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education, no UAE office, no school partnerships, and no in-home service anywhere in the UAE. Each of those is checkable, which is the point.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 2: your questions answered

Is there an IB home tutor actually living in Jumeirah 2?+

Possibly, for some subjects, and that is the wrong question to start from. Jumeirah 2 has no Diploma school inside it, and the teaching population on the Jumeirah strip works largely in British-curriculum and primary schools. So a local search returns excellent IGCSE and A Level teachers and very few people with IB assessment experience. The more useful question is whether anybody at all teaches your child's named subject at their named level on a compatible timetable, which is a question about the whole pool rather than about one district. For a Primary Years pupil, proximity is a reasonable filter. For a third Higher Level, it is close to the worst one available.

Why does my child's subject combination make matching harder?+

Because a tutor is matched to one cell in a structure with two coordinates, subject and level, and schools build option blocks differently. One Dubai school may run Higher Level Economics against Higher Level Chemistry so a student cannot take both; another may not. The result is that two Diploma students in the same Jumeirah 2 street can hold combinations with almost nothing in common. A tutor who was excellent for one neighbour's child may be entirely wrong for the next, and recommendations passed between families fail for this structural reason far more often than because of anything the tutor did.

Which of the six Diploma subjects is hardest to find locally?+

Usually the third Higher Level, and for the same reason the school teaches it thinly: the cohort is small. A Dubai school with seven students taking Higher Level Economics cannot staff it as it staffs Higher Level Mathematics, and the people nearby who teach it are equally few. Group 6 subjects are harder again, because portfolio and performance work is assessed against criteria the school's own department interprets. The practical consequence is an inversion worth remembering: a distance-based search finds help for the subjects that need it least and nobody for the one that needs it most.

Can one tutor cover two of my child's Higher Levels?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking about specifically, because it halves the scheduling problem. The pairings that genuinely work are the adjacent ones: Physics with Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Chemistry with Biology, Economics with Business Management. What matters is whether the person has taught both at Higher Level rather than whether they are confident in both subjects. A tutor who teaches one at Higher Level and the other at Standard will be fine for two terms and then will not. Ask the component question about each subject separately before agreeing to a combined arrangement.

What does a generalist tutor get wrong in a Diploma subject?+

The assessment rather than the content. In English they discuss themes without the Paper 1 criteria, producing confident essays that score in the middle. In a language they correct accuracy and never mention that interaction is a separately assessed strand of the individual oral. In Economics they coach good economics into a commentary that loses marks on article date or word limit. In a science they miss what criterion D of the investigation rewards. In each case the content teaching is fine and the marks do not move, which is why a parent sees a student who seems to have stopped improving rather than an obvious mismatch.

How do I check a tutor's qualifications if we have never met?+

Ask for specifics rather than adjectives: which subject, which level, which syllabus version, how many cohorts taught, which components marked. Then ask one assessment question about the component your child is losing marks on, and listen to the shape of the answer. Somebody who names criteria by letter with their mark allocations has taught the course; somebody who describes the subject has not. Ask separately whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free, takes two working days and therefore has no good reason to be absent for a UAE-based tutor.

Should I trust a tutor described as an IB examiner?+

Treat it as a specific factual claim about a current appointment and ask for the board, the component and the session. Examiner experience is genuinely valuable, because somebody who has marked a component knows what the scheme credits. What it does not confer is access to mark schemes before release, grade boundaries or paper content, and any suggestion otherwise should end the conversation. Our own position is that we do not describe a tutor as an examiner unless their current status can be evidenced, because the claim is common in this market and frequently unverifiable.

What does a twenty-minute radius around Jumeirah 2 actually exclude?+

Diploma teachers at the inland Al Barsha and Al Sufouh campuses, anybody whose own evening commute makes a 17:00 start impossible, and every specialist living on the far side of the city or in another emirate. For a Diploma combination, that exclusion list is where most of the real matches were. What the radius includes is a large teaching population working mainly in British-curriculum and primary schools, plus university students living nearby. The filter feels like it selects for convenience and in fact selects for willingness to drive in evening traffic.

What would an in-home arrangement in Jumeirah 2 involve in practice?+

A tutor driving from Al Barsha arrives between 17:30 and 18:15 depending on Sheikh Zayed Road, parks on the street and teaches for sixty or ninety minutes. Minimum session lengths are common in this market because a sixty-minute visit is not economic once travel is counted, and published monthly packages run about AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. What a family gains is presence and sight of the working environment, which genuinely helps younger students. What it costs beyond the rate is the candidate pool, because only drive-willing tutors are available.

Why is the in-home rate in Dubai higher if the teaching is the same?+

Because the rate is carrying the journey. Published Dubai bands read in October 2026 put in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject teacher online, and the gap is travel time that nobody can teach during. A tutor crossing the city at six in the evening loses perhaps eighty unpaid minutes around a single hour, and the rate reflects that. The premium buys presence, sight of the desk and independence from a video connection. It does not buy Diploma experience, and in a small-cohort subject it narrows the choice rather than widening it.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a Jumeirah 2 villa?+

No. IB Gram does not sell in-home tuition anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for a Jumeirah 2 household run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own marked script and a shared whiteboard on screen, and the session available to rewatch before a mock or a deadline. That is the reason a match can be made on the syllabus: the pool is everybody who teaches the course rather than everybody prepared to drive to Jumeirah at six in the evening.

What happens if our tutor leaves Dubai mid-course?+

It is a real risk in this market rather than a hypothetical one, because teaching contracts commonly end in June and families relocate over the summer. For a two-year Diploma the damage lands at the DP1 to DP2 junction, where predicted grades and investigation deadlines arrive together. The defence is a written record rather than a promise about a person: a few lines per session recording the components losing marks, the diagnosis, the topics rebuilt and the evidence they held. With that, a change of tutor is a handover. Without it, the next person spends four sessions rediscovering what the last one knew.

How is a handover between tutors managed?+

From the running record, and the parent should hold a copy. A usable handover note names the six subjects and levels, the school and its scheme of work, the components that were losing marks and why, the topics rebuilt with the evidence that they held, the school's own deadline dates, and what the student does and does not do independently between sessions. A new tutor who reads that starts at session five rather than session one. Asking a provider whether such a record exists is also a reasonable way to judge how organised the arrangement is before committing to a term of it.

What may a tutor do with an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

Narrow the research question until it can be answered with the resources available, point out that a variable is not controllable or an article does not meet the requirements, explain what each criterion rewards, teach the underlying content, and read a draft in order to ask questions about it. What a tutor must not do is supply the question as a finished product, process the data, write or rewrite any section, or return a corrected draft until it is right. The school supervisor authenticates the work as the student's own, and offers to produce assessed work put the candidate's diploma at risk under IB academic-honesty rules.

Does a tutor working with a Jumeirah 2 family need a MoHRE permit?+

Anybody providing private tutoring in the UAE does. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. It is applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation smart app, website or e-services, under Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day turnaround. Operating without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts has been published.

What time can a session start in a Jumeirah 2 household with two school runs?+

Most Diploma students living in Jumeirah 2 commute to Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh or Al Barsha and are home between 15:45 and 16:45, with a younger sibling often arriving on a different bus. That makes 16:00 unrealistic, 17:00 workable on good days, and 18:30 the slot that survives a late bus and a second pick-up. Because lessons are online there is no travel attached to either end, so the booked hour is the taught hour. Over two Diploma years, a fixed slot that actually happens every week is worth more than an earlier one that gets rescheduled twice and then lapses.

Send the six subjects and their levels, and we will tell you honestly

If you are looking for an IB tutor from a Jumeirah 2 address, the useful first message is a list: the six subjects with Higher or Standard marked against each, the school, and the component that is currently losing marks. From that it is possible to say whether a specialist is available at that level in your slot, or whether the honest answer is that nobody is, in which case the specific alternative gets named rather than glossed. Take the free trial lesson on your child's own marked work, with nothing payable and no card details, and a short written diagnosis follows before any term is booked. Lessons run online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are offered only in India.
