IB Physics Tutor in JLT

Hiring an IB physics tutor in JLT is a timetable problem before it is an academic one. There is no Diploma school inside Jumeirah Lakes Towers, so your child is already on a bus or in a car twice a day, and the hour you book has to survive that. This page works outwards from the school run: which schools the towers feed, what the return journey leaves behind, and which part of the physics course a tired hour can actually carry. Lessons run online over live video on a shared whiteboard, and the first one is free.

IB & IGCSE in JLT

JLT has no Diploma school, so physics help here starts with the journey home

Jumeirah Lakes Towers is a residential cluster of towers around three artificial lakes, and it contains no IB Diploma school. A Year 12 student living in Cluster J or Cluster X is enrolled somewhere else: Emirates Hills, The Meadows, Al Barsha, Al Sufouh, Dubai Media City or further along Al Khail Road. That single fact shapes every tutoring decision a JLT parent makes, and almost nothing written about tutoring in this part of Dubai acknowledges it.

The practical consequence is that your child's academic day does not end when the final bell rings. It ends when the bus has worked its way through a drop-off sequence, crossed Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road in the late-afternoon direction, and reached a tower entrance where the lift is busy. Families who try to book a physics session for the time the school day ends discover within a fortnight that the slot cannot hold. Families who measure their own journey once, then build the session around the real arrival time, keep the slot for two years.

Physics is unusually sensitive to this. It is not a subject that rewards a tired half hour of reading. The work that moves an IB Physics grade is derivation, unit analysis, graph interpretation and multi-step problem solving under time pressure, and all four of those collapse when the student is running on the last of the day. A chemistry student can memorise reagents when flat. A physics student cannot derive the period of a mass-spring system from scratch when flat, and pretending otherwise wastes the hour you paid for.

The second consequence of having no school in the towers is tutor supply. A family in a villa community can sometimes find a physics teacher who lives twenty minutes away and will drive over. From a JLT tower, that pool is small, expensive once travel is priced in, and almost never contains a Higher Level physics specialist who is free at six on a weekday. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so this is not a trade-off we are asking you to make in our favour: it is the reason the online format exists. Delivering the lesson over live video means the person on the screen is chosen for teaching Physics Higher Level, not for proximity to Cluster R.

What follows is organised the way a JLT week actually runs. First the schools the towers feed and what each does to the evening. Then the physics course itself, theme by theme and paper by paper, with a note on which component suits which part of the evening. Then the scientific investigation, the market rates in dirhams, the permit rules a parent can check, and four worked week shapes you can copy. Every figure here is attributed to the source that published it, and every regulatory statement comes from a UAE government page you can open yourself.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

JLT children reach IB Physics by different routes depending on which school the bus goes to. Some have been in an IB continuum since primary and met the sciences through MYP criteria; others arrive from an IGCSE double or triple award at sixteen. The route changes what a physics tutor should be doing in the first term.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Sciences in the Middle Years Programme are assessed against four criteria, each marked out of eight: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Physics is usually taught inside an integrated sciences course rather than as a separate subject until the final year or two, so a student can reach MYP 5 having done less formal mechanics than an IGCSE peer.

For a JLT family the MYP question is whether the child has met enough quantitative physics to choose Higher Level with confidence. Criterion C work builds genuine graph and uncertainty skills, which transfers straight into Paper 1B. What it does not build is algebraic speed under timed conditions. An MYP 5 student in this area usually needs problem-set volume rather than more investigation practice.

Diploma Programme

Physics sits in Group 4 and may be taken at Standard or Higher Level. The current guide organises content into five themes and three skills tools, assessed through a multiple-choice paper, a data and experimental paper, an extended-response paper and an internally assessed scientific investigation. Higher Level covers the same themes to greater depth with additional higher-level-only content in each one.

Diploma physics students living in JLT are spread across at least six IB World Schools, which means your child's class is at a different point in the themes from the child two floors down. A tutor working with a JLT student should ask for the school's own scheme of work in the first session rather than assuming a standard order, because the sequence varies considerably between Dubai schools.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A route combining two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a core of personal and professional skills. Where physics is taken within it, the course and its assessment are identical to the Diploma version, including the scientific investigation and the same three examination papers.

Very few Dubai schools run this route, so most JLT families will not meet it. If your child is on it, the physics workload is the same as a Diploma candidate's but the surrounding timetable has a different rhythm, and the investigation deadline is the item most often missed because the rest of the programme does not cue it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The route in from IGCSE

Most British-curriculum schools around JLT run Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1, or a co-ordinated or double-award science. Each ends with a terminal written examination and, in the Cambridge case, an alternative-to-practical paper. The content overlaps the first theme or two of the Diploma course and stops well short of the rest.

The IGCSE-to-Diploma physics step catches JLT students reliably, because the schools they attend teach the two courses in different buildings and sometimes in different years. IGCSE Physics rarely asks for calculus, almost never asks for a formal uncertainty propagation, and treats fields descriptively. Higher Level physics assumes all three within a term. That gap is the commonest reason a JLT parent searches for a tutor in October of Year 12.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below breaks IB Physics into the parts a tutor is actually hired for, with the places marks leave the page. Use it to name a theme rather than booking general physics help, because naming the theme is what lets a specialist prepare the right hour.

Theme A: Space, time and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, forces, work, energy, momentum, and at Higher Level rigid body mechanics and the Galilean and special relativity material. Marks go on sign conventions in momentum questions, on treating energy as conserved when a resistive force is present, and on students who can quote a formula but cannot say which of two bodies the symbol refers to.

Theme B: The particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Thermal physics, the gas laws, the kinetic model, and at Higher Level the thermodynamic treatment including entropy and real-world heat engines. The common loss is unit and scale: temperatures used in degrees Celsius where kelvin is required, and specific heat capacity questions where mass is read off the stem incorrectly.

Theme C: Wave behaviour

SL and HL

Simple harmonic motion, wave characteristics, superposition, standing waves, the Doppler effect, and at Higher Level the full treatment of diffraction and interference. Students lose marks by describing phase in words rather than in radians, and by drawing standing-wave diagrams with the wrong number of nodes for the stated harmonic.

Theme D: Fields

SL and HL

Gravitational and electric fields, electric cells and circuits, magnetic effects of currents, and at Higher Level induction, capacitance and orbital motion. This is the theme JLT students most often ask for help with. The losses are conceptual rather than arithmetic: potential confused with field strength, and induction answers that omit the direction of the induced effect.

Theme E: Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Structure of the atom, radioactive decay, fission and fusion, and at Higher Level the quantum material including the photoelectric effect and the standard model of particles. Marks go missing on decay-equation bookkeeping, on binding energy per nucleon read off a graph in the wrong units, and on photoelectric answers that describe intensity where frequency is the variable.

Paper 1A: multiple choice

SL and HL

A multiple-choice paper covering the whole syllabus with no mark for working. It rewards fast estimation, confident unit reasoning and a willingness to eliminate rather than solve. Students trained only on long-form questions routinely run out of time here, and the fix is timed practice at a per-question pace rather than more content revision.

Paper 1B: data and experimental

SL and HL

Questions built on unfamiliar data sets and experimental scenarios, drawing on the skills tools rather than on recall. It asks students to linearise a relationship, handle uncertainty, judge a method and comment on a graph. It is the component where strong classroom students most often underperform, because it cannot be revised from a textbook.

Paper 2: extended response

SL and HL

Short and extended written questions mixing calculation with explanation. Command terms carry the marks: explain, outline, discuss and justify each require a different shape of answer, and a correct number written under the wrong command term still scores poorly. Higher Level questions chain three or four steps where Standard Level questions chain two.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL, internally assessed

An individual investigation written up as a report and marked against four criteria out of twenty-four marks in total, carrying a fifth of the subject grade. The criteria reward a research question with a clear independent variable, raw data properly processed, a conclusion tied back to published values, and an evaluation that names specific methodological weaknesses.

Mathematics required by physics

SL and HL

Logarithmic plots, small-angle approximations, vector resolution, gradient and area interpretation, and at Higher Level a working comfort with rates of change. A physics tutor often spends the first fortnight on this rather than on physics, especially with students who took Applications and Interpretation rather than Analysis and Approaches.

Practical skills and the tools

SL and HL

The three skills tools cover experimental technique, technology including spreadsheets and simulation, and the mathematics listed above. They are examined inside Paper 1B and assessed inside the investigation, so they are never a separate revision topic and are therefore the thing students skip. Deliberate practice on them pays disproportionately.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics tutoring is shaped by what the evening can hold rather than by a fixed package. The three formats below reflect the three jobs JLT families actually ask for, and all three run online over live video with a shared whiteboard the student can write on.

Weekly one-to-one, pinned to the bus

A fixed weekday slot set after the measured arrival time rather than after the final bell, running alongside the school's scheme of work. The student brings the week's marked problems and the tutor reads the method before the answer, rebuilding the step that broke rather than reteaching the topic.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes, the same evening each week
  • Slot chosen after the family has timed one real journey home
  • Annotated solutions saved from the shared whiteboard and sent afterwards
  • A short problem set between sessions, marked at the start of the next

Component blocks for Paper 1B and Paper 2

A short run of sessions aimed at one examination component rather than the whole course. The commonest request from JLT families is a Paper 1B block: six to eight weeks of unfamiliar data sets, linearisation, uncertainty handling and method criticism, with every lost mark checked against the published mark scheme.

  • One component at a time: Paper 1A pace, Paper 1B skills, or Paper 2 command terms
  • Timed question sets attempted before the session and reviewed inside it
  • An error log kept across the block so the pattern becomes visible
  • The block ends when the pattern changes rather than after a set number of weeks

Weekend mornings for the long journeys

For students on the Al Barsha and Jebel Ali runs who genuinely arrive home too late for useful physics, a Friday or Saturday morning session replaces the weekday slot. Mornings suit derivation and multi-step problems, which is most of what moves a physics grade, and they remove the race against the bus entirely.

  • Ninety minutes to two hours while concentration is at its best
  • Suits derivations, Paper 2 extended questions and investigation analysis
  • Leaves weekday evenings for lighter consolidation the student can do alone
  • Particularly useful across study leave and the Dubai school holidays

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in JLT

01

What a JLT address actually commits your evening to

Start with the geography, because it is the thing that decides whether a tutoring arrangement survives. JLT is built as lettered clusters of towers around three lakes, bounded by Sheikh Zayed Road on one side and Al Khail Road on the other, with Metro stations at either end. It is residential and commercial. It has nurseries and early-years provision, and it does not have an IB Diploma school. Secondary students leave the community every morning and return to it every afternoon.

That return is where the planning goes wrong. Parents tend to anchor a tutoring slot to the school's published finish time, which is the one number the school advertises. The number that matters is different: it is the time your own child, on your own route, with your own stop position, walks through the door. Between those two numbers sit the bus loading sequence, the drop-off order, one of two major arterial roads in the afternoon direction, and a tower lift at the busiest point of its day.

The gap between the two is not a constant. It is longer when the route serves JBR or Discovery Gardens after JLT, longer again when Al Khail Road has a diversion, and shorter when a parent drives the Al Sufouh leg themselves. It also changes between terms, because transport offices re-cut routes when enrolment shifts. A family that measures once in September and once in January has better information than any generic timing advice, including this page's.

The table below is a checklist for that measurement, not a set of timings we have invented. Fill the last column in yourself for your own route, then set the session after that time with a buffer, and the slot will hold for the year. Set it before that time and you will be rescheduling by the third week, which is the single commonest reason a tutoring arrangement in this part of Dubai quietly stops.

Which part of physics the hour can carry, and which it cannot

Once you know when your child is actually at a desk, the useful question becomes what physics can be done then. This is not a wellbeing point. Different components of this course make different demands on working memory, and the components that make the heaviest demands are the ones that move grades. Spending a late, tired hour on the wrong component is how families conclude that tutoring does not work for their child.

Derivation is the heaviest. Producing the expression for the period of a simple pendulum, or deriving the relationship between orbital radius and period from first principles, requires holding three or four algebraic steps in mind while checking the dimensions of each. That is hard at four in the afternoon and close to impossible at nine at night. The same is true of Paper 2 extended questions, where the student must carry information from part (a) into part (d) without rereading the stem.

The lighter work is real work too, and it is what a late hour should contain. Checking a multiple-choice set against the answers and writing one line on why each wrong option was tempting. Reading a marked script and tagging each lost mark with a reason code. Drawing and labelling field patterns. Rehearsing command terms by writing three-mark answers to prompts without doing the calculation. None of this is filler and all of it survives tiredness.

The table sets this out component by component so a parent can match the slot to the work rather than hoping. If your measured arrival time puts the session late, do not shorten the course: move the heavy components to a weekend morning and use the weekday hour for the lighter ones. Most JLT families who get two years out of a tutoring arrangement are running exactly that split.

Theme D is where JLT students ask for help, and why

Across the physics enquiries that come from this part of Dubai, fields is the theme named most often, and it is named at a particular moment: a few weeks after the class has moved on from it. That pattern is informative. Fields is not difficult to follow in a lesson. It is difficult to retain, because the theme contains four distinct field types, two potential concepts, and a sign convention that flips depending on which quantity you are discussing.

The specific confusions are consistent enough to name. Field strength and potential are treated as versions of the same idea, so students divide when they should multiply and lose the whole chain. Gravitational potential is described as negative without any account of why the zero is at infinity. Electric circuit questions are answered with memorised formulae rather than by tracing which component the current actually passes through. At Higher Level, induction answers give a magnitude and omit the direction, and the direction is where the mark sits.

None of that is fixed by rereading the chapter. It is fixed by building the student's own one-page map of the theme, in their handwriting, with the two potentials on it and the sign of each stated, then testing it against past questions until the map stops needing corrections. A tutor can do that in three or four sessions with a student who has the content in their notes already, which is the usual position by the time a parent gets in touch.

The reason this matters for a JLT family specifically is scheduling. Fields sits in the middle of the two-year course for most Dubai schools, which means the request arrives in a term that is already crowded with the scientific investigation and the first serious mock. If you can see that fields is the weak theme in November rather than in April, three sessions in a quiet fortnight will do what six sessions in a loud one cannot.

04

The scientific investigation, and the month it needs rather than the term

A fifth of the physics grade is internally assessed through an individual investigation, written up against four criteria worth twenty-four marks in total. The criteria reward a research question with a genuinely manipulable independent variable, raw data presented before any processing, a conclusion compared against a published value or accepted relationship, and an evaluation that names specific weaknesses in the student's own method rather than listing generic sources of error.

What goes wrong is nearly always the research question, and it goes wrong early. A student picks a topic that interests them and discovers four weeks in that the independent variable cannot be varied enough to produce a trend, or that the dependent variable cannot be measured with the equipment available. By then the deadline is close and the write-up is built on data that will not support a conclusion. A single hour spent testing the viability of a question before any apparatus is touched saves the whole exercise.

The boundary on what help is permitted matters more here than anywhere else on this page. A tutor may teach the criteria, discuss whether a question is viable, explain uncertainty propagation, show how to linearise a relationship, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor must never write the investigation, supply the data, or rewrite a paragraph into its final form. We state that in writing at the start of any investigation support so that the school can see the help was legitimate if it is ever asked.

Practically, the investigation needs one concentrated month rather than a thin term. For a JLT student the month to protect is the one where the weekday evenings are shortest, because the work is spreadsheet-heavy and graph-heavy and suits a weekend morning block better than a tired hour. Families who schedule two long weekend sessions for the processing and analysis, and keep the weekday slot for the examined course, finish the report without losing ground in the taught content.

What physics tuition costs around the JLT towers, in dirhams

Price is the one thing this cluster of search results refuses to discuss. Of the competitor pages reviewed in October 2026, three published no hourly figure at all and two quoted in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family pays a tutor in. So here are the published dirham figures, each attached to the provider that published it, as read in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price list.

Begin at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where the decision usually starts. EdFlik advertises online tuition from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52, both of which buy a general tutor rather than a Higher Level physics specialist. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200. TutorChase lists AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level work at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED's premium named tutors at AED 650.

The in-home comparison is the figure worth reading carefully. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and home tutors generally at AED 200 to 500, with travel built into the rate. For a JLT tower, that premium buys a journey through two arterial roads and a visitors' car park, not more teaching. It also narrows your choice to whoever can make that journey before seven, which in Higher Level physics is a very short list. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

Monthly packages are quoted too, and they are the clearest way to compare. The market shows around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year work. Set that against the KHDA confirmation of 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, and a tutoring line in the household budget is at least a stable number this year.

Four JLT week shapes, and when each one is the right answer

Generic advice about session frequency is useless in this community because the journeys differ so much. A student at a school in Al Sufouh and a student at a school in Al Barsha both live in JLT and have completely different evenings. So here are four shapes, each built from a real constraint, and the signal that tells you which one is yours.

The short-route shape is the simplest. If your child is home within forty minutes of the final bell and that is stable across the week, a six o'clock weekday slot works and will hold. Run one hour weekly against the school's scheme of work, use it for Paper 2 practice and new derivations, and keep a second shorter slot in reserve for the term the investigation is due.

The long-route shape inverts it. If the measured arrival is late and variable, stop trying to force a weekday hour and move the main session to a weekend morning of ninety minutes to two hours. Use the extra length properly: a timed Paper 1B section, then its review, then a derivation block. Leave the weekday evenings for the light work described earlier, which the student can do without a tutor present.

The two shapes left are the crowded-activity shape and the examination-term shape. Where swimming, football or music occupies three weekday evenings, the realistic answer is one weekend session plus one short midweek review rather than two full evening hours that will be cancelled. And in the final examination term, when study leave begins and the school day shortens, the whole pattern should move to mornings, which is the only period of a JLT student's two years when the best hours of the day are actually available.

Is the tutor two towers away legally permitted to teach your child?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and this is worth knowing before you hire someone informally through a building group chat. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. The eligible categories are broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students.

The route is MoHRE's own service, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system, with no fee stated and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are, in the government's own words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of fine amounts has been published, so any page quoting you a figure is quoting something unverified.

There is a second rule that matters more than families expect. A teacher at your child's own school tutoring your own child privately is the arrangement parents ask for most often and the one that carries the most risk. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat that as press-reported and check the current policy document, but do not build a plan around it.

A separate thing entirely is a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai, which requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram does not hold that permit, does not operate premises in the UAE, and is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board. We are an independent tutor-matching platform, and saying so plainly is more useful to you than a badge nobody can verify.

Something no competitor page in this cluster mentions: your child's physics revision is competing with mandatory subjects that sit outside the IB programme entirely. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisational rules are specific. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details help a parent plan. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and it advises that any mandatory-subject lesson lasts at least twenty-five minutes. Schools are required to ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, which is why tutoring in these subjects follows the school's material rather than an outside scheme.

What this means for a JLT physics plan is simply arithmetic. Those lessons occupy timetable space and carry their own assessments, so a Diploma student's week has less slack than the subject list suggests. If your child is also sitting an Arabic assessment in the fortnight you planned for physics past papers, move the physics. We can stream Arabic support separately where a family wants it, following the school's own material, and the two plans should be made in the same conversation rather than in two.

Getting started from a JLT tower, and what happens if nobody is free

The first message is short and it decides the quality of everything after it. Send the level, Standard or Higher, the school and year group, the themes already taught, the component where marks are going, and two evening windows that work after your measured arrival time. If you can add photographs of the last two marked assessments with the teacher's annotations visible, the trial lesson becomes diagnostic rather than introductory.

We then match a physics specialist at that level and offer a free trial lesson, online, with no payment and no card details taken. Watch two things during it. Does the tutor work from your child's own lost marks or from a generic worksheet? And does your child talk during the hour? A student who is silent through a trial is a signal worth acting on immediately rather than after a month.

Sometimes the honest answer is that nobody suitable is free in your window. Higher Level physics in a six o'clock Gulf Standard Time slot is the most contested combination we handle, and when it is full we say so and offer either a different time or a date when the slot opens. We do not substitute a general science tutor into a Higher Level physics brief. A mismatched specialist costs a term, and a Diploma student does not get the term back.

After the match, the arrangement is reviewed against the error log rather than against how the sessions felt. Every four to six weeks, look at whether the losses in a named theme have stopped appearing. If they have, the work there is done and the focus should move. If nothing has shifted in six weeks, change the approach or change the tutor rather than extending the booking out of politeness. That review habit is what separates two useful years from two expensive ones.

Where we tutor

The communities JLT shares its school buses with

JLT students board buses that also serve the communities below, and the stop order matters: a child picked up early on the inbound run is dropped late on the outbound one. The notes describe what each neighbour does to a JLT family's evening and to physics demand specifically.

Dubai Marina

Shares most bus routes with JLT across Sheikh Zayed Road and has the same no-local-secondary-school position. Marina students frequently sit on the same run, which means the two communities compete for the same early-evening tutoring slots and the six o'clock hour fills first.

JBR

Sits beyond the Marina on the outbound leg, so a bus serving JBR after JLT returns JLT children earlier and a bus serving JLT last returns them later. Worth asking the school transport office which order your route runs before you fix a weekday slot.

The Greens and The Views

A short hop across Sheikh Zayed Road from JLT and home to one of the nearer British-curriculum primaries. Families here often have a younger child at a school JLT families also use, so sibling drop-off timing is the constraint rather than the journey length.

The Meadows and Emirates Hills

Two of the IB World Schools JLT Diploma students attend sit on this edge of Emirates Living. The journey is short in distance and unpredictable in time because it runs against the afternoon flow on Al Khail Road and through gated community traffic.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

A dense cluster of large schools including several that run the Diploma. JLT children on these routes have the longest inbound journeys and the most variable return times, and are the group most likely to need a slot after seven rather than before it.

Al Sufouh and Dubai Media City

Close enough that a car journey is short outside peak, long inside it. Several JLT families drive this route themselves rather than using the bus, which gives a predictable arrival time and makes an earlier physics slot genuinely possible.

Jumeirah Village Triangle and Circle

Inland from JLT and served by schools JLT families also use. The relevance here is reverse: some JLT students travel outwards to JVT and JVC schools, and that run is the one most affected by Al Khail Road construction diversions.

Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan

On the Jebel Ali side, sharing the Dubai Metro red line and several bus corridors with JLT. Students travelling this direction often finish later, and the families here are the heaviest users of weekend morning sessions for exactly that reason.

IB World Schools JLT Diploma students travel to

No Diploma school sits inside the JLT clusters, so physics students here are enrolled across a spread of IB World Schools reached by bus or car. Students we support attend schools in this group; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied by naming them.

  • Dubai International Academy, Emirates Hills

  • Uptown International School

British-curriculum schools on the same JLT bus corridors

Many JLT students sit IGCSE Physics at one of these before choosing between A Level and the Diploma, and some travel to them for the whole of secondary. The relevance for a physics tutor is the step between the two courses, which this group of schools teaches in several different ways.

  • Regent International School, The Greens
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Sunmarke School, Jumeirah Village Triangle
  • Arcadia School, Jumeirah Village Triangle
  • The Winchester School, Jebel Ali
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha

School names appear on this page as context for the JLT education map only; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or partnership with any school named.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Measure one journey home

Before you ask anyone for a slot, time your own child's route once from final bell to desk. Note the stop position on the bus order if you can get it from the transport office. That one number is worth more than any advice about session timing, including everything on this page, because it is the only version that is true for your route.

  2. 02

Name the level and the component

Tell us Standard or Higher Level, the themes covered so far, and whether the marks are going in Paper 1A, Paper 1B, Paper 2 or the investigation. Add the school and the examination session your child is working towards. This is what lets us match a physics specialist rather than a general science tutor.

  3. 03

    Send the marked work

The last two marked assessments and the most recent mock, with annotations visible. Photographs from a phone are fine. A tutor who has read marked work before the trial arrives with a hypothesis about where the marks are going, which turns the first hour into a diagnosis instead of an introduction.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

A full lesson online, with no payment and no card details. The trial is the point at which you judge whether the tutor teaches from your child's errors and whether your child engages. Both are visible within twenty minutes, and neither can be judged from a profile page.

  5. 05

Fix the slot after the arrival time

Agree a weekly time that sits safely after the journey, with a buffer, and agree what happens between sessions: a short problem set, an error log entry, or a timed paper section. The cycle matters more than the length of the lesson, and a slot that holds for two years beats a longer one that collapses in October.

  6. 06

Review against the log every six weeks

Look at whether named losses have stopped appearing rather than at whether the hour felt productive. Move the focus when a theme is fixed. Change the approach or the tutor if six weeks have produced no change in the pattern, instead of letting the arrangement continue by default.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on level and theme, not on distance

Because the lesson runs over live video, the person teaching your child is selected for having taught Physics Higher Level to examination rather than for living near Cluster R. From a JLT tower that difference is the whole value, since the pool of specialists who can physically reach the towers by six is very small.

Scheduling built on your measured journey

We set the slot after the time your child actually walks in, not after the school's published finish time. It is a small change and it is the reason tutoring arrangements in this community survive past the third week instead of quietly stopping.

Component-level diagnosis

Physics grades are lost in identifiable components, not in the subject as a whole. We ask for marked scripts first so the work starts from your child's own lost marks, and so a Paper 1B weakness is treated as a skills problem rather than as a reason to reread the textbook.

Clear limits on investigation help

Support on the scientific investigation means teaching the criteria, discussing viability and giving written feedback on your child's own draft. It never means writing it, supplying data or rewriting a paragraph into final form. We put that boundary in writing so the school can see the help was legitimate.

Figures you can check yourself

Every dirham range on this page is attributed to the provider that published it with the month it was read, and every regulatory statement comes from a UAE government page. Nothing here is a statistic we generated about ourselves, because an unverifiable number is worth nothing to a parent making a decision.

A straight answer when the slot is full

Higher Level physics in an early-evening Gulf Standard Time slot is our most contested combination. When it is full we tell you and offer an alternative time or a date, rather than filling the brief with a generalist. Disclosing the limit is more useful than concealing it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in JLT: your questions answered

Where do JLT students sit IB Physics, given there is no Diploma school in the towers?+

Jumeirah Lakes Towers has nurseries and early-years provision but no IB Diploma school, so every Diploma physics student living here travels out. The schools JLT families most often use sit in Emirates Hills, The Meadows, Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Dubai Media City, with a few further along Sheikh Zayed Road. The practical consequence is that your child's class is at a different point in the five themes from the child two floors down, so a tutor should ask for your school's own scheme of work in the first session rather than assuming a standard order of teaching.

What time can a physics session start if my child buses back to JLT from Al Barsha?+

Measure it rather than estimate it. The Al Barsha school cluster is the largest in the city and the drop-off sequences are long, so the gap between the final bell and your child reaching a desk is wider on this route than on most. Time one real journey, note whether JLT is early or late in your bus order, then set the session after that time with a buffer. Families on this corridor often end up with a weekend morning as the main session and a shorter weekday slot for lighter review work, which holds better than forcing an early evening hour.

How many evenings a week does IB Physics Higher Level realistically need?+

Most Higher Level students we support start with one session a week and add a second only for a specific reason: an investigation month, a Paper 1B block, or the final examination term. Two full sessions a week from the start usually means the work is being spread thin rather than targeted. What matters more than frequency is the cycle around the session, which is a short problem set between lessons and a marked script read at the start of the next one. A single well-used hour with that cycle beats two hours without it.

Which of the five IB Physics themes causes the most trouble for Dubai students?+

Fields is the theme named most often in enquiries from this part of Dubai, and usually a few weeks after the class has moved past it. The content follows easily in a lesson and is hard to retain, because it holds four field types, two potential concepts and a sign convention that changes with the quantity being discussed. The specific confusions are field strength treated as the same idea as potential, gravitational potential described as negative without explaining where the zero sits, and Higher Level induction answers that give a magnitude and leave out the direction.

Can Paper 1B data and uncertainty work be taught properly over video?+

Yes, and arguably better than in person, because the work is screen-based anyway. Paper 1B uses unfamiliar data sets and experimental scenarios, so the session involves a spreadsheet, a graph and a published mark scheme on a shared screen with both people annotating. A tutor can linearise a relationship live, show the uncertainty carried through each step, and have the student redo it immediately. What video cannot replace is handling apparatus, which is what the school laboratory is for. Confirm the current paper structure against your school's IB subject guide, since the IB revises guides on a rolling cycle.

Are physics derivations workable on a shared whiteboard, or does my child need paper?+

Both, and the good version uses both. The student works on paper and holds it to the camera, or writes directly on the shared whiteboard with a stylus while the tutor annotates in a second colour. What matters is that the tutor can see the working and not just the answer, because a derivation loses marks at the step that was skipped rather than at the final line. Sessions end with the annotated whiteboard saved and sent, which gives the student a record of their own derivation rather than a textbook version of it.

When should the IB Physics scientific investigation actually start?+

Earlier than most students start it, and the critical hour is before any apparatus is touched. The commonest failure is a research question whose independent variable cannot be varied enough to produce a trend, discovered four weeks in when the deadline is close. Spend one session testing viability: can the variable be changed across a useful range, can the dependent variable be measured with the equipment available, and is there a published value or relationship to compare the conclusion against? Get those three right and the write-up needs one concentrated month rather than a thin term.

My child is strong in lessons and loses marks in Paper 2. What causes that?+

Almost always command terms rather than physics. Paper 2 asks students to explain, outline, discuss, justify, determine and describe, and each demands a different shape of answer. A correct calculation written under a command term that asked for an explanation scores poorly, and the student leaves the examination believing they did well. The second cause is information carried across linked parts: a four-part question expects part (a) data to be used in part (d) without rereading the stem. Both are trainable in a few sessions using past questions and the published mark schemes.

Does a physics tutor need a UAE permit to teach a child living in JLT?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts has been published.

Should a physics session sit before or after dinner in a JLT household?+

Before, if your measured arrival time allows it, because the components that move a physics grade are the ones that need working memory. Derivations, Paper 2 extended questions and Paper 1B analysis all degrade sharply when a student is running on the last of the day. If the journey makes an early slot impossible, do not shorten the course: move the heavy work to a weekend morning and use the late weekday hour for marked-script review, error tagging, field-pattern diagrams and timed multiple choice, all of which survive tiredness.

How do we fit physics around three committed evenings of sport and music?+

With one weekend session and one short midweek review, rather than two weekday hours that will be cancelled. A ninety-minute to two-hour weekend block carries a timed Paper 1B section, its full review and a derivation block, which is more than two tired evening hours achieve. The midweek slot then becomes twenty-five to thirty minutes of error tagging and recall, which the student can partly do alone. Cutting an activity to make room is rarely the right first move, because the activity is usually what makes the rest of the week tolerable.

What do physics tutors charge per hour around Jumeirah Lakes Towers?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026 run from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget online end, where EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, TutorChase lists AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 table puts specialist IB and IGCSE work at AED 200 to 450 and above, with premium named tutors at AED 650. In-home visiting rates sit at AED 180 to 500 because travel is priced in. Those are other providers' numbers, not ours.

Can one tutor cover both IB Physics and Mathematics Analysis for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. The overlap is real: logarithmic plots, vector resolution, gradient and area interpretation, and rates of change all appear in both courses. A tutor who teaches Analysis and Approaches Higher Level and Physics Higher Level can use one to reinforce the other and saves you a slot in a crowded week. What you should not accept is a general science or general maths tutor covering both, because the component-level work in each subject needs someone who has taught it to examination.

What happens to physics sessions during Ramadan and study leave?+

Both are scheduling changes rather than pauses. During Ramadan the school day shortens and sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar slot or to a late morning, and the content should move with the slot: lighter recall work when energy is low, heavier derivation work in the morning. Study leave is the opposite and the best news in a JLT student's two years, because mornings finally become available. That is the period to run full past papers under timed conditions and review them mark scheme by mark scheme, which no term-time evening slot can accommodate.

What if no Higher Level physics specialist is free in the slot we want?+

We tell you, and offer either a different time or a date when the slot opens. Higher Level physics in an early-evening Gulf Standard Time window is the most contested combination we handle, and the honest version of that is more useful to you than a quiet substitution. We will not put a general science tutor into a Higher Level physics brief, because a mismatched specialist costs a term of a two-year programme and that term cannot be recovered. If the wait is long, we say how long rather than leaving the enquiry open.

How do we book a free trial physics lesson from a JLT address?+

Send five things: the level, Standard or Higher; the school and year group; the themes taught so far; the component where marks are going; and two evening windows that work after your measured arrival time. Add photographs of the last two marked assessments if you have them. We match a physics specialist at that level and the trial lesson runs online, in full, with no payment and no card details taken. During it, watch whether the tutor works from your child's own errors and whether your child talks.

Start with the journey, then book the trial

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in JLT, the most useful thing you can do before contacting anyone is time one journey home and write the number down. Then send us the level, the school and year, the themes covered, the component where marks are going, and two evening windows that sit safely after that time. We will match a physics specialist at the right level rather than a general science tutor, and the first lesson is free so you can judge the hour before committing to anything. Lessons run online over live video with a shared whiteboard, which is exactly what makes the right specialist available at the time your week can actually hold.
