IGCSE Tutor near me in JLT

Typing "IGCSE tutor near me" from a JLT address sorts people by driving distance, which predicts almost nothing about whether they can teach your child's syllabus. This page is a verification exercise instead. It sets out the five things a parent in Jumeirah Lakes Towers can check before paying anybody, what a MoHRE permit does and does not prove, what each market price tier makes verifiable, and the fifteen-minute script that separates a subject teacher from a sales conversation.

  • Five checks a parent can run before a single dirham changes hands
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, two-year, and checkable
  • Ask for the syllabus code; it is the one question that cannot be bluffed
  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so distance is not a filter

IB & IGCSE in JLT

What you can verify about an IGCSE tutor near me, before paying

A distance search is a sorting tool that answers a question nobody actually has. The question a JLT parent has is whether this person can move their child's grade in Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4PH1, and proximity is silent on that. Worse, the radius filter is actively harmful at IGCSE level, because it eliminates the people most likely to know the answer and keeps the people most likely to be available at 17:00 on a Tuesday.

The useful reframing is verification. There are exactly five things about a tutor that a parent can check independently, without specialist knowledge and before any money moves: the MoHRE private tuition work permit, the syllabus codes they have actually taught, whether they can read a mock script and tell you where the marks went, whether they will put the boundary on coursework in writing, and whether the first lesson is genuinely free of condition. Everything else on a tutoring profile is assertion.

Price sits inside that frame rather than above it. Market rates in Dubai run from AED 33 to 52 an hour at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online on Unitors' published figures, to AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit on Bestimate's and independent home tutors' rates, and AED 650 at the premium end with BartyED. The honest way to read that ladder is by how much becomes verifiable as you climb it. At the bottom you can verify the permit and little else. In the middle you can verify code experience and mark-scheme fluency. At the top you are frequently paying for a reputation that cannot be checked at all.

Several things in this market are asserted and should not be believed without evidence. Self-published star ratings are one: competitors in this cluster show 4.92 out of 5 from 480 reviews and 4.93 from 850 on the same page, and one shows 5.0 from 20 reviews alongside a claim about a far larger student body. Examiner status is another, and a tutor's current examiner role is not something a platform can usually evidence, nor does it grant any access to marking or boundaries. Regulator approval is the third and most dangerous: no tutoring platform in this market is approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, and any page implying otherwise has told you something important about itself.

IB Gram delivers to JLT as one-to-one online tuition over live video. We hold no UAE office and do not offer home visits in Dubai, since those run only in India. Removing distance from the equation is the point rather than a limitation: the shortlist for your child's subject and code is drawn from people who have taught it, and every claim on this page is one you can test in a fifteen-minute conversation before agreeing to anything.

At a glance

  • Distance predicts availability, not syllabus knowledge
  • Five checks are independently verifiable: permit, codes, mock reading, coursework boundary, trial conditions
  • Market rates run AED 33 to 650 an hour; what climbs with them is verifiability
  • Self-published ratings, unevidenced examiner status and regulator approval claims are assertions
  • No UAE office and no home visits in Dubai; lessons run over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Verification differs by stage, because what you can usefully check about a Year 8 tutor is not what you should check about a Year 11 one. These are the four stages a JLT family passes through and what matters at each.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7-9, before entries exist

No examination codes yet, so code experience is not the right check. What matters here is the permit, the subject background, and whether the tutor will agree a short block with a stated end. This is the cheapest stage in the market and the one where a budget-tier tutor at AED 33 to 65 is genuinely appropriate, because the task is confidence and fluency rather than paper technique.

JLT families with a Year 8 or 9 child often over-buy at this stage, hiring a Year 11 specialist for homework support. The sharper use of money is a short block on the foundations that keep the Extended or Higher tier open at 14, because the tier decision made in Year 10 is far more expensive to reverse than to prepare for.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10-11

Codes exist, tiers are set, and the verification checklist becomes specific. Ask which codes the tutor has taught and for how many series, ask them to read a marked mock and name the paper and question type where marks went, and ask what they would refuse to do with a piece of coursework. A tutor who answers all three well is worth the qualified-tier rate and a tutor who answers none is not worth the budget-tier rate.

In the JLT catchment, campuses in Al Barsha, Barsha South, Al Sufouh and the Marina enter students against different boards, so two children in the same tower can sit different codes in the same subject. That is precisely why a neighbour's recommendation is weaker evidence here than the code question.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level or IB Diploma

The stakes rise and so does the value of verifying the honesty boundary rather than the credentials. Internal assessment, the Extended Essay and coursework all create pressure to cross a line, and the only protection a family has is a tutor who stated the boundary before it was tested. Ask the question at IGCSE, because the habits form here and the consequences land later.

Several schools serving JLT run both A Levels and the IB Diploma with different published entry thresholds. Ask the school for those thresholds before deciding how much IGCSE support to fund; the number tells you exactly how far your child needs to travel and in which subject, which is also what a tutor needs to know.

MOEAt the end of the school route

Ministry of Education equivalency

For the British track a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. That rule is verifiable on the authority's own channels, which is where to read it.

IB Gram does not perform, arrange or guarantee equivalency, and tutoring is not required for it. A page implying that a family needs tutoring to achieve equivalency is making a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process, which is itself a reason to distrust the rest of the page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

For each subject below, the third column is what a competent tutor should be able to tell you in the first conversation without seeing any work. If they cannot, they have not taught the code, whatever the profile says.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580; Pearson 4MA1

They should be able to say which papers your child's tier sits, which is calculator and which is not, and that method marks are forfeited by unshown working. A tutor who talks about mathematics in general and never mentions the tier has not taught the entry.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

They should name how practical skills are assessed on their board and should be unsurprised that electricity is the commonest reported weakness. Ask what they would do about circuit reasoning specifically; a general answer about more questions is not an answer.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

They should mention moles calculations and organic naming unprompted as the two places marks concentrate relative to teaching time, and should know that the expected style of working differs between the boards' mark schemes.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

They should talk about command terms before they talk about content, because that is what discriminates at this level. A tutor who proposes to re-teach the syllabus from the start is proposing the most expensive possible plan.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 or 0990; Pearson 4EA1

They should distinguish retrieval from inference in the reading questions and should ask to see a marked writing response rather than a sample of free writing. Marks here are structural, so the diagnosis has to come from a marked script.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 or 0511

They should confirm the code first, because this is a different paper set from first-language English with listening and speaking components. A tutor who treats the two interchangeably will teach the wrong paper well.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

They should name the evaluation marks at the end of extended answers as the usual loss, and should be able to describe what an evaluative sentence looks like. If the answer is about revision notes, the diagnosis is wrong.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

They should mention pseudocode conventions and trace tables, and should know that a confident programmer can still lose heavily on the written paper. Ask how they would mark a trace table; the answer is specific or it is nothing.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 and equivalents

Taken alongside the main course by students heading for A Level or Higher Level mathematics. A tutor should be able to say how it changes Year 12 readiness, because that is the only reason to take it.

Arabic and Islamic Education

As organised by the school under KHDA requirements

Mandatory in Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students. Any tutor here should say that support follows the school's own material, since additional content needs prior Ministry of Education permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to begin, ordered by how much you can verify before committing. The first is the one to use if you have never hired a tutor, because it produces evidence rather than a contract.

The screening conversation, then a trial

Fifteen minutes on the five checks, then one free trial lesson with no card details required. Nothing is agreed in either. The purpose is to collect evidence: did they ask for the code, could they read the mock, did they state the coursework boundary without being pushed. A tutor who passes that and then teaches a good trial lesson has been verified about as far as a parent can verify anyone.

  • Fifteen-minute screening call on five checkable points
  • One free trial lesson, no card details, no obligation
  • You keep the mock script and the tutor's reading of it
  • An honest refusal at this stage costs nothing

A four-session diagnostic block

Four one-to-one online sessions on one subject, ending in a written answer about which paper and question type is losing marks. It is the cheapest way to test whether a verified tutor also works for your particular child, and it has a hard stop, so the decision to continue is a decision rather than a default.

  • One subject, four sessions, written diagnosis at the end
  • Total known before the first session
  • May conclude that no further support is needed
  • Evidence for or against continuing, not a renewal

A paper-technique block

Six to ten sessions on the specific component where marks are going, worked under timed conditions and marked against the published criteria for the right board. This is where most IGCSE value sits once the diagnosis is known, and it is the format a verified specialist should be proposing rather than an open weekly slot.

  • Scoped to one paper or component
  • Timed practice marked to the correct board's criteria
  • Defined finish, reviewed at the next school assessment
  • Repeatable for a second subject

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in JLT

01

Why distance is the weakest filter you can apply

A near-me search ranks by a quantity that does not appear anywhere in your child's grade. It is a proxy, and proxies are fine when nothing better exists. Here something better exists and takes one message to obtain: the board, syllabus code and tier for every subject, which the school's examinations officer will confirm. Filter on that and the list changes completely.

The cost of filtering on distance is specific and measurable. You eliminate every specialist who cannot reach Jumeirah Lakes Towers by 17:00, which at IGCSE level is most of the people who have taught your child's code through several series. You retain people whose main qualification is geography. Then you pay the in-home band of AED 180 to 500 an hour, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, for the privilege of having applied the weaker filter.

There is also a subtler cost. A tutor hired on proximity is in a weak position to be replaced, because the replacement has to satisfy the same radius. Families end up keeping an adequate local tutor through a year when they would have changed an online one in a fortnight. The table below sets out each filter a parent might apply, what it actually predicts, and what it costs to get wrong.

None of this argues that in-person teaching has no value. For a seven-year-old learning handwriting, presence is most of the lesson. For IGCSE, where the work is a marked script, a past paper and a shared screen, presence is the most expensive component of the invoice and the least load-bearing part of the lesson.

The five checks, and what good looks like on each

Verification only works if the checks are things a non-specialist can perform. These five are. None requires subject expertise, none requires a reference, and all five can be completed before money moves. They also work on any provider, not only on us, which is the point of publishing them.

The permit is the cleanest. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system under the service called 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Ask to see it. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, treat any quoted amount with suspicion.

The code check is the one that cannot be bluffed. A tutor who has taught Cambridge 0620 will say things about expected working in moles calculations that a tutor who has not cannot improvise. The mock-script check is the one that saves the most money, because it distinguishes a diagnostician from someone who will propose re-teaching the syllabus. And the coursework boundary check is the one that matters most later, when Year 12 arrives and the pressure to cross a line becomes real.

The fifth check is about the offer itself. A free trial should be free of condition, and if conditions exist they belong on the same screen as the word free: trial length, eligibility, and whether card details are required. Ours is one full lesson, with no card details required. Any provider unwilling to state the conditions plainly has answered a different question than the one you asked.

What the tutor permit proves, and what it does not

The permit is the only credential in this market that a parent can verify without specialist knowledge, which makes it valuable and also makes it over-read. It establishes that an individual is legally permitted to provide private tuition in the UAE. It says nothing whatsoever about subject knowledge, teaching ability or familiarity with your child's syllabus code, and a tutor who offers it as evidence of quality has misunderstood it.

Eligibility is deliberately broad. The permit covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. A permitted tutor may therefore be a head of department with twenty years of Cambridge experience or a seventeen-year-old. Both are lawful; only one can read your child's mock script.

Two boundaries sit alongside it. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific authorisation issued to organisations with premises, and no individual tutor permit confers it. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the permit's code of conduct pointing the same way, so an arrangement with your child's own teacher is not one to pursue.

The claim to watch for is the inverse of the permit: approval. No platform in this market, including this one, is approved, accredited, licensed or endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Those bodies regulate and award; they do not endorse tutoring companies. A page claiming otherwise is either confused or misrepresenting, and both are reasons to stop reading it.

04

Price per verified credential, bottom to top

If verification is the frame, then the sensible way to read the price ladder is by what becomes checkable at each rung. At the bottom tier, AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, you can verify the permit and the subject background and little else, which is appropriate for Year 8 homework and inadequate for a Year 11 entry.

In the qualified band at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 150 for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB, code experience and mark-scheme fluency become checkable, because a tutor at that level can discuss the specific paper and the specific loss. This is the band where the five checks all return real answers, and for Years 10 and 11 it is where the money belongs.

Above it the picture inverts. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors, a band that overlaps the qualified online band entirely while adding nothing verifiable: travel is not a credential. Specialist exam-year rates at AED 200 to 450 and upward, with TutorChase at AED 270, do buy deeper board familiarity. The premium tier at AED 500 to 650, with BartyED at AED 650, is largely reputation, and reputation is the one thing on this page a parent cannot check.

These are market figures published by the providers named, with the dates and sources attributed, and none of them is an IB Gram price. Our own position is a free trial lesson and a consultation that sets the plan before a figure is agreed, which is itself a verifiable claim: you will know whether it was true by the end of the first conversation.

05

The fifteen-minute script for a first conversation

  • Open with the syllabus code and tier, not with the grade you want
  • Offer a marked mock and ask where the marks went
  • Ask what they would refuse to do with a finished piece of coursework
  • Ask to see the permit and ask what the free lesson requires
  • Ask what happens if six sessions change nothing

Verification is easier with a script, because the questions that produce evidence are not the questions that come naturally. The natural question is how a tutor would help, which invites a sales answer. The useful questions are narrow and factual, and a good tutor enjoys them because they are the questions a teacher would ask themselves.

Open with the code. 'My child sits Cambridge 0580 Extended. Which papers is that, and what do you see students lose marks on?' Then the mock. 'I can send you a marked script. Can you tell me which question types the marks went on?' Then the boundary. 'If my child sent you a finished piece of coursework and asked you to fix it, what would you do?' Then the permit. Then the trial conditions. Five questions, fifteen minutes, nothing bought.

What you are listening for is specificity and the willingness to say no. A tutor who says a subject is fine at both tiers, who proposes to start from the beginning of the syllabus, who treats the coursework question as a request for a service, or who cannot say how long the free lesson lasts has failed the screen. A tutor who says they have not taught that board and would rather you found someone who has, has passed it in the most useful way available.

Finish by asking what they would do if the first six sessions did not move anything. The honest answer involves changing the method or standing down, not adding hours. That question is the one most likely to produce an uncomfortable pause, and the pause is information.

06

What a marked mock tells you that a profile cannot

  • Cover the grade and read only the unawarded marks
  • Right working with missing marks means technique: six to ten sessions
  • Working that stops early means content: a longer, costlier plan
  • A tutor's reading of the same script is the second diagnostic

A mock script is the best diagnostic instrument a JLT parent owns and most families never use it for anything except reading the grade. Cover the grade and read only the places where marks were not awarded. The pattern is usually obvious within ten minutes and it points at one of two completely different purchases.

If the working is largely right and marks are still missing, the problem is technique: unshown method, a misread command word, an answer that explained where it should have evaluated, a unit left off. Technique is cheap to fix, moves fast, and needs six to ten sessions at most. If the working stops early or goes somewhere unrelated, the problem is content, which is slower, more expensive, and the one case where a standing weekly slot across Years 10 and 11 can be justified.

Hand the same script to a prospective tutor and the second diagnostic begins, this time of them. A tutor who has taught the code reads it the way you just did and says something specific within a minute. A tutor who has not asks for more context, talks about building confidence, and proposes a full syllabus review. That is not dishonesty; it is the honest output of someone who cannot see what is in front of them, and it will cost you a term to discover any other way.

Keep both outputs. The script, your own reading of it, and the tutor's reading form a record you can compare against the next marked assessment, which is the only review point worth using. A calendar date is not evidence. A second script is.

07

The regulator, the inspection band, and what a school report means

Parents verifying a tutor often want to verify the school too, and the published evidence there is real. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the Ministry of Education.

Dubai's market context is published too, and it is useful for calibration. In 2024-25 the emirate had 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37%, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7% of enrolment. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%.

A band is a judgement about a school, not about your child's subject. A Good school can have a weak department and an Outstanding one can have a difficult year group. The useful move is to read the inspection report's subject-level commentary rather than the headline band, and then ask the subject teacher the narrow question about papers and question types. Verification works the same way at school level as at tutor level: specific and checkable beats a summary judgement.

One thing not to read into a band: it has no bearing on tutoring. No inspection rating approves, recommends or validates any tutoring provider, and no tutoring provider can claim standing from one. The bands are a parent's tool for choosing and monitoring a school, and that is the whole of their use here.

Claims that should end a conversation

  • An offer to produce coursework: disqualifying, and the student carries the consequence
  • Regulator approval claimed without a permit number: made up
  • Self-published star ratings: unverifiable and a policy violation
  • Any statistic with no sample size, date or method: ignore it

Some answers are disqualifying rather than merely weak, and knowing them in advance saves a term. An offer to produce assessed work is the clearest. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright, and buying one is an academic-integrity breach that triggers a malpractice process against the student, not the seller. Any provider who treats a finished draft as a job rather than as the student's own work should be left where you found them.

A claim of regulator approval is the second. No tutoring platform in this market is approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. The KHDA Educational Services Permit exists, but it is issued to training institutes with premises and a permit number, so a page claiming the status without the number is making it up.

A self-published star rating is the third. Rivals in this cluster publish 4.92 out of 5 from 480 reviews and 4.93 from 850 on the same page, and one shows 5.0 from 20 reviews against a claim of a far larger student body. Self-serving review markup is against Google's structured-data policy and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, a consumer-protection exposure. A promised grade is the fourth, and no honest provider sells one. The fifth is a statistic with no sample size, date or method attached, which is simply a number someone liked.

The last is more subtle and worth naming because it is common here: a UAE page with a non-UAE conversion path. Two ranking competitors route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers, and one shows a Dubai footer address on an Abu Dhabi page. We hold no UAE office and say so; what we will not do is display one we do not occupy.

09

Starting from JLT, with everything we have claimed testable

  • Send the school, the code and tier, and a marked mock
  • Free trial lesson, no card details, before anything is agreed
  • Run the five checks on whoever is proposed, including ours
  • The next marked assessment is the review point, not the calendar

Send three things: the school, the board and syllabus code with the tier, and a marked mock if you have one. We propose a tutor who has taught that code, with a slot set after the commute home to Jumeirah Lakes Towers rather than during it, and you take a free trial lesson that costs nothing and requires no card details. Matching takes two to four working days for mainstream IGCSE subjects.

Run your five checks on whoever we propose. Ask for the permit, ask which codes and how many series, send the script and ask what they see, ask what they would refuse to do with a finished piece of coursework, and ask what the trial involves. If an answer is weak, say so and we propose someone else. A provider that publishes a verification checklist and then fails it has published an unusually effective argument against itself.

Where we cannot help, we say so at the enquiry stage. Mathematics, the three sciences, English, Economics, Business and Computer Science are normally staffed in UAE evening hours. A less common language, a specialist art or design option or an unusual code sometimes is not, and we will tell you rather than placing a general tutor against a specialist brief. For Arabic and Islamic Education, support follows the school's own material, because additional content needs prior Ministry of Education permission.

The review point is the next marked school assessment, not a date. If the script has moved, the block is finished and we close it. If it has not, we change the method or the tutor and tell you which, rather than extending an approach that did not land. Everything in that sentence is checkable by you with a second mock script, which is the point.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around JLT

These notes are about what a nearby search actually returns in each community, and what time a session can realistically start. Both matter more than the distance figure a map gives you.

JLT

Lettered clusters around four lakes with visitor registration at most towers. A distance search here returns people working across the whole Marina corridor rather than inside JLT, so the apparent locality is thinner than it looks.

Dubai Marina

Shares JLT's search radius almost entirely, which means a near-me search from either address returns substantially the same list. If a neighbour's recommendation is in that list, the code question still applies.

JBR

The beachfront strip past the Marina. Distance searches from here return the same corridor, with the added friction that the drive in from Sheikh Zayed Road is the slowest leg of it at 17:00.

The Greens

Closer to the Al Barsha campuses, so a 16:30 start is realistic. Local searches return more school-adjacent tutors here, which is convenient and still says nothing about the syllabus code.

The Views

Adjacent to The Greens with lighter golf-course-side traffic. Weekend sessions are common here in Year 11, which widens the pool considerably compared with a weekday slot.

Discovery Gardens

Immediately south of JLT with a large resident population and a different school mix. Demand concentrates on mathematics and the sciences, so those are the codes to verify most carefully.

Al Sufouh

A school destination rather than a residential base for most JLT families. Tutors who market themselves as near a school here are near the campus, not near your home, which are different claims.

Barsha South

The longest school route from JLT. Students are home latest, so a near-me search filtered to an early slot excludes exactly the people who could have taught the subject.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in JLT

Al Barsha and Barsha South campuses

The main destination cluster for JLT secondary students. Boards and codes vary by campus rather than by neighbourhood, which is why verification has to be per child rather than per area.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Arcadia Global School

Marina, Al Sufouh and Emirates Hills campuses

The second cluster for JLT families, with several schools running IGCSE before a split into A Levels or the Diploma. Published post-16 thresholds differ between them and are worth collecting before funding Year 11 work.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai College
  • American School of Dubai

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim campuses

A longer run chosen for curriculum rather than proximity. Families here most often verify against a weekend slot rather than a weekday one, which changes who is available.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Horizon English School
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School

Schools are named only as context for the JLT catchment. IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement by or relationship to any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and tier in writing

From the examination entry statement or the examinations officer, for every subject. This replaces a distance filter with a filter that predicts something. It takes one message and it is the single highest-value action available to a parent in this market.

  2. 02

Find and photograph a marked mock

One script with the marks visible is worth more than any profile. You will read it yourself for technique against content, and you will use it to test whoever you speak to. Keep it; it becomes the baseline for the review later.

  3. 03

    Run the fifteen-minute screen

Code, mock, coursework boundary, permit, trial conditions. Five questions, nothing bought. The willingness to say no is as informative as any answer, and a tutor who tells you they have not taught your board has given you the most useful reply available.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One full session at no cost with no card details required. Ask your child afterwards what the tutor did rather than whether they liked them. A session where something specific was fixed is a different signal from a session that went pleasantly.

  5. 05

Buy a block, then review against a second script

Four diagnostic sessions or a six to ten session paper block, with a stated end. The review is the next marked assessment compared with the baseline script, not a conversation at a month's end. If nothing moved, the method or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the checks that test us too

The five verification points on this page apply to any provider, including this one. A checklist that only flatters the publisher is marketing; one you can turn around and run on us is evidence. Run it on whoever we propose.

Proposed against a syllabus code

We ask for the board, code and tier before naming anybody, because Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 are different examinations. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across the whole area cluster researched for this project, which indicates how rarely that question gets asked here.

No claims we cannot evidence

No regulator approval, no self-published star rating, no examiner status we cannot stand behind, no statistic without its sample size, date and method. That list removes most of what this market's pages are made of, which is the reason to publish it.

Delivery and absence stated plainly

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram holds no UAE office and runs no home visits in Dubai; those operate only in India. A UAE page should say where its conversion path leads rather than route you abroad quietly.

The coursework boundary in writing

Tutors teach criteria, question approaches and give feedback on the student's own drafts. Nobody produces an assessed piece. A ranking competitor in this market sells completed coursework, so the boundary needs stating rather than assuming.

Coverage disclosed before you commit

If we cannot staff your subject or code this term we say so at enquiry, rather than placing a general tutor and letting a mock reveal it in March. No competitor researched for this project publishes a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in JLT: your questions answered

How many IGCSE tutors are realistically within reach of a JLT tower?+

Fewer than a map suggests, and the number is the wrong thing to count. A distance search from Jumeirah Lakes Towers returns people working across the whole Marina corridor, filtered to those who can arrive by about 17:00 on a school night. That filter removes most tutors who have taught your child's specific syllabus code through several series, and keeps those whose strongest qualification is geography. Filtering on the board, code and tier instead takes one message to the examinations officer and produces a shortlist that predicts something about the grade.

What can I actually verify about a tutor before paying anything?+

Five things, none needing subject expertise. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, which you ask to see. The syllabus codes they have taught and for how many series. Whether they can read a marked mock and name the paper and question type where marks went. What they would refuse to do with a finished piece of coursework. And what the free trial actually requires, including length and whether card details are needed. Everything else on a tutoring profile is assertion, and in this market several of the common assertions contradict themselves on the same page.

Does a MoHRE permit mean the tutor knows my child's syllabus?+

No, and conflating the two is the commonest misreading in this market. The permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, establishes that someone is legally permitted to provide private tuition in the UAE. Eligibility covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A permitted tutor may be a head of department or a seventeen-year-old. Both are lawful; only one can diagnose a Cambridge 0580 Extended script.

What should I ask a tutor in the first fifteen minutes?+

Five narrow questions and nothing about outcomes. Which papers does my child's code and tier sit, and what do students lose marks on. Can I send you a marked script, and what do you see in it. If my child sent you finished coursework and asked you to fix it, what would you do. May I see your MoHRE permit. What does the free lesson involve and require. Then one more: what happens if six sessions change nothing. The honest answer involves changing method or standing down, never adding hours.

Is a nearby tutor worth more than a specialist in another time zone?+

For IGCSE work, usually less. The lesson consists of a marked script, a past paper and a shared screen, all of which transfer to video without loss, so presence is the most expensive line on the invoice and the least load-bearing part of the teaching. In-home rates in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. The practical constraint on a distant specialist is the clock, not the quality: the session has to land in a workable evening slot for both sides.

How do I check a tutor has really taught our exam board?+

Ask for the codes and then listen for detail they could not improvise. Someone who has taught Cambridge 0620 Chemistry will say specific things about expected working in moles calculations; someone who has not will talk about chemistry in general. Then send a marked mock from that board and ask what they see. A tutor who has taught the code reads it within a minute and names the question type. A tutor who has not asks for context and proposes a full syllabus review, which is the most expensive plan available.

What does a KHDA inspection band actually tell me?+

It is a judgement about a school, not about a department or your child's subject. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. A Good school can carry a weak department and an Outstanding one can have a difficult year group. Read the subject-level commentary in the report rather than the headline band, then ask the subject teacher the narrow question about papers and question types. No band endorses any tutoring provider.

Should I believe a tutor who says they are an examiner?+

Not without evidence, and be careful what the claim is being used to imply. Current examiner status is rarely something a platform can evidence for an individual, and it confers no access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content. If someone offers examiner status as a reason to pay a premium, ask which board, which series and who appointed them. The useful version of that experience shows up as fluency in how answers are credited, which you can test directly by handing them a marked script.

What does a marked mock tell me that a tutor's CV does not?+

Everything that matters about the next purchase. Cover the grade and read only the unawarded marks. If the working is right and marks are missing, the problem is technique: six to ten sessions, fast movement, cheap. If the working stops early or wanders, the problem is content: a longer and costlier plan, and the one case where a standing weekly slot across Years 10 and 11 is justified. A CV cannot tell you which of those two you have, and the script tells you in ten minutes for nothing.

Which claims on a tutoring website should I simply ignore?+

Self-published star ratings, because rivals in this cluster show 4.92 out of 5 from 480 reviews and 4.93 from 850 on one page. Any claim of regulator approval without a permit number, since the KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises. Any promise of a particular grade. Any statistic with no sample size, date or method. And any UAE page whose conversion path is a non-UAE phone number, which two ranking competitors in this market use. None of those are close calls.

How much should a verified subject specialist cost for IGCSE?+

The band where all five checks return real answers is the qualified online tier at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing from AED 150 for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. Below it, at AED 33 to 65, you can verify the permit and the subject background and little else. Above it, in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 add travel rather than a credential, and the premium tier at AED 500 to 650 is largely reputation. IB Gram quotes after a free trial and a consultation rather than publishing a flat rate.

Can I speak to another JLT parent before committing?+

You can ask, and you should weigh the answer carefully, because a neighbour's recommendation is weaker evidence here than people expect. Campuses across Al Barsha, Barsha South, Al Sufouh and the Marina enter students against different boards, so two children in the same tower can sit different codes in the same subject. A tutor excellent for one may be teaching the other the wrong board's habits. Use a recommendation to shorten the list and then run the code check anyway; it is the step the recommendation cannot replace.

Is the free trial lesson genuinely free, with no conditions?+

Ours is one full lesson at no cost with no card details required, and the conditions belong on the same screen as the word free, which is why they are stated here. When any provider offers a free trial, ask three things: how long it is, who is eligible, and whether payment details are collected first. If those answers are not given plainly, the offer is not plainly free. A trial that ends with you deciding against the tutor has worked exactly as intended and should cost nothing.

What happens if the tutor we verified becomes unavailable?+

You get told, and you re-run the checks on the replacement rather than inheriting them. Continuity matters at IGCSE because a tutor who has read your child's scripts carries context that a new one does not, so a mid-block change is a real cost and we will say so rather than presenting it as routine. Where a replacement is necessary we propose someone who has taught the same code, hand over the session notes and the baseline script, and expect you to screen them the same way you screened the first.

Do we need a tutor at all, or is this a conversation with the school?+

Start with the school, because it is free and better informed. Ask the subject teacher which paper and question type is losing marks and what should be practised, and ask what clinics, workshops and mock feedback already run; most Dubai secondary schools run several. Those fees, which KHDA confirmed will not rise for private schools in the emirate in 2026-27, already cover a good deal of support. If the answer is a specific technique gap the school cannot staff individually, that is the moment a short paid block earns its place.

Replace the radius with five checks you can run yourself

Searching for an IGCSE tutor near me from a JLT address sorts by the one variable that has no bearing on your child's grade. The board and syllabus code, a marked mock script, a MoHRE permit, a stated coursework boundary and honest trial conditions are all checkable in an afternoon, and together they predict far more than driving distance ever will. Run them on us as readily as on anyone else. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed after the commute home, and the first one is free with no card details required.
