IGCSE Home Tutor in JLT

The cheapest IGCSE home tutor in JLT advertises from AED 33 an hour. The dearest asks AED 650. This page works up from the bottom of that range rather than down from the top, naming what each tier actually delivers, which of your child's nine subjects are worth funding at all, and how to find the syllabus code before you spend anything. Lessons from IB Gram reach Jumeirah Lakes Towers one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in JLT

Working up from the cheapest IGCSE tutoring in JLT, not down from the dearest

Most tutoring pages start at the premium end and reason downwards, which makes every tier below look like a compromise. Start at the bottom instead. Tutopiya advertises online tutoring in this market from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. At those rates you are generally buying a capable university student who knows the subject at their own level, has not taught the syllabus, and will not have seen a mark scheme for the code your child is entered against. For checking homework in Year 9, that is often enough, and paying more would be waste.

The next tier up is a qualified subject tutor working online, quoted at AED 150 to 300. Unitors publishes AED 150 upward for IGCSE and AED 200 upward for IB. What the extra buys is syllabus-specific: someone who knows that Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel ask different things of the same physics content, who can tell you which paper your child's marks are being lost on, and who marks to the published criteria rather than to a general impression. For Year 10 and Year 11 that difference is the whole value.

Above that, a visiting tutor in a JLT tower is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors, and premium named tutors reach AED 650 at BartyED. The jump from the online qualified tier to the in-home tier is not a jump in teaching. It is the cost of a car crossing Sheikh Zayed Road at 17:00, visitor registration at the tower desk, and the tutor's inability to teach anyone else during the drive. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, and the honest reason is that the premium buys logistics rather than better lessons.

The second decision costs more than the tier decision, and almost nobody discusses it. An IGCSE student typically sits eight to ten subjects. Funding a weekly hour in each at a mid-market AED 220 would reach five figures a term, and it would be mostly wasted, because a student struggling with 0580 Extended algebra is not simultaneously struggling in nine ways. The useful question is which two or three subjects sit furthest below the grade the next step requires, and what the cheapest intervention in each of those looks like.

The third thing to get right before spending is the code. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 and Physics is 0625; the Pearson Edexcel equivalents include 4MA1 and 4PH1. The papers, the tiering and the assessment structure differ between boards for the same subject name, which is why a tutor who asks 'Cambridge or Edexcel, and which code?' in the first minute is worth more than one who asks what grade you want. Find the code on your child's exam entry sheet or ask the school's examinations officer, then hire against it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE sits in the middle of a longer route, and a JLT family funding Year 10 support is usually funding readiness for whatever comes at 16. The four stages below are the ones that affect how much tutoring is worth buying and when.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10-11

Eight to ten subjects, examined externally, with tiering in several of them. Cambridge offers Core and Extended routes in subjects such as Mathematics 0580, and Pearson Edexcel offers Foundation and Higher tiers in subjects such as 4MA1. The tier decision caps the grade available, so it is a bigger decision than most families realise and it is often taken by the school on the basis of Year 9 evidence. Support is most efficient in Year 10, when the tier is still open.

JLT students sit IGCSE at schools across Al Barsha, Barsha South, Al Sufouh and the Marina, and the boards vary by campus rather than by area. Two children in the same tower can be entered for different codes in the same subject, which is why a shared tutor arranged between neighbours in a JLT cluster frequently works for one child and not the other.

PRE-IGAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7-9, before the entries are set

The cheapest useful tutoring in the whole route sits here, because nothing is examined and nothing is capped yet. A student whose fractions, ratio and algebraic manipulation are secure at the end of Year 9 keeps the Extended or Higher tier open in Mathematics, and the same holds for reading stamina in English. At AED 33 to 65 an hour, a short block in Year 9 is the lowest-cost intervention available in this market.

JLT families often start looking in Year 11, which is the most expensive possible moment. Year 9 support costs less per hour, needs fewer hours, and influences the tier decision the school will make. If your child is in Year 9 now and wobbling in maths, that is the term to act, not the term before the papers.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level or IB Diploma at 16

IGCSE results decide which post-16 routes are open. A Level courses usually require a grade threshold in the subject; the IB Diploma requires six subjects across groups and a reasonable spread. A student entered on a lower tier may meet the grade but not the entry requirement for the Higher Level version of the subject, which is the specific trap worth paying to avoid in Year 10 rather than discovering in Year 11.

Several schools serving the JLT catchment run both A Levels and the IB Diploma, and the entry requirements differ between them. Ask the school for the published thresholds before deciding how much IGCSE support to fund, because that number tells you exactly how far your child has to travel and in which subject.

MOEAt the end of the school route

Ministry of Education equivalency

Equivalency converts a school certificate into something UAE universities and employers can accept. For the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five.

That rule changes subject planning in Year 9 for a JLT family, because a household counting Arabic towards the five would think the requirement met when it is not. IB Gram does not perform, arrange or guarantee equivalency; verify the current wording with the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation authority before relying on it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below is organised around where marks are actually lost rather than around content lists, because that is what decides how many sessions a subject needs. Codes are given where they are the common ones in Dubai schools; confirm your child's own code on the entry sheet.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Two written papers at each tier, one with a calculator and one without under the current syllabus structure. Marks go on algebraic manipulation, on method marks never shown, and on reading a question's command word. The tier decision caps the grade, so check it before buying anything.

Additional or Further Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 and equivalents

Taken alongside the main maths course by students heading for Higher Level or A Level mathematics. It is the single best predictor of a comfortable Year 12 and the subject most often dropped under pressure. Support here is technique-dense and responds well to short blocks.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Unit handling, rearranging formulae under time, and the practical or alternative-to-practical component. Electricity is the topic JLT parents raise most often, and it is fixable, because the problem is almost always circuit reasoning rather than arithmetic.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles calculations and organic naming carry disproportionate marks relative to teaching time. Students who can describe a reaction but not calculate a yield lose marks in a predictable place, which makes this one of the cheapest subjects to lift with a short targeted block.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Content-heavy, with command terms doing the discriminating. 'Describe' and 'explain' demand different answers and students who revise content without revising answer shape sit below their knowledge. Diagram labelling and data questions are the other two recurring losses.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Reading questions reward precise retrieval and inference; writing questions reward structure and register. Marks are rarely about vocabulary. A small number of sessions on paragraph architecture and on timing usually moves a grade more than months of reading practice.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A different paper set from first-language English, with listening and speaking components. Students placed in the wrong course lose marks for reasons that have nothing to do with ability, so confirm which code your child is entered for before buying support.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson equivalents

Diagram accuracy, definitions and the evaluation sentence at the end of a long answer. Students lose the final marks on almost every extended question by stopping at explanation, which is a teachable habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and the practical component. The written paper rewards precision in a way code that merely works does not, and that gap catches confident programmers who have never written a trace table under time.

Arabic and Islamic Education

As organised by the school under KHDA requirements

Mandatory in Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs. These sit outside the five subjects the equivalency rule counts, and tutoring must follow the school's own material, since additional content needs prior Ministry of Education permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE support, ordered cheapest first. Each is the right answer in a different situation, and the commonest mistake is buying the third when the first would have done.

A diagnostic block of four sessions

Four one-to-one online sessions on one subject, aimed at finding out exactly which paper and which question type is costing marks. It produces a written answer you can act on, including the answer that no further tutoring is needed. At the lower end of the qualified band this is the cheapest way to replace a guess with a plan, and it has a hard stop.

  • Four sessions, one subject, a written diagnosis at the end
  • Known total cost before you start
  • Can conclude that nothing further is needed
  • Best first purchase if you have never used a tutor

A targeted paper block

Six to ten sessions on the specific paper or component where marks are going, worked through past material under timed conditions with marking against the published criteria. This is where most IGCSE value sits, because an IGCSE grade is decided by paper technique at least as much as by content knowledge, and technique moves quickly once it is taught explicitly.

  • Scoped to one paper or component, not a whole subject
  • Timed practice marked to the published criteria
  • Six to ten sessions with a defined finish
  • Repeatable for a second subject if it works

Weekly across Year 10 and 11

A standing slot across both IGCSE years for a subject where the gap is structural rather than technical. It is the most expensive format and sometimes the correct one, particularly where a student is on the Extended or Higher tier with Year 9 foundations that were never secure. Enter it deliberately, with a termly review, rather than by renewal.

  • Same tutor across both years, continuous records
  • Appropriate where foundations rather than technique are the issue
  • Termly review with an explicit continue-or-stop decision
  • Highest total cost of the three formats

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in JLT

01

What each price tier actually delivers for IGCSE

  • Match the tier to the situation, not to the year group
  • The step up the tiers buys narrower syllabus knowledge, not more effort
  • The in-home band overlaps the specialist online band, with the difference going on travel
  • Two questions settle it: your rate without travel, and which codes have you taught

Here is the market read from the bottom. The figures are the providers' own published rates, quoted with their sources, and none of them is IB Gram's price list. What matters in the table is not the number but the final column: the situation in which that tier is the right purchase. A parent who buys the top tier for a Year 9 homework problem has wasted money, and a parent who buys the bottom tier for a Year 11 Extended paper has wasted a year.

The pattern across tiers is that you are not buying more enthusiasm as you go up, you are buying narrower knowledge. A capable undergraduate at AED 45 an hour knows physics. A qualified subject tutor at AED 200 knows Cambridge 0625 Physics, which paper the practical skills are examined on, and what the mark scheme accepts as a complete answer. Those are different products and only one of them is priced by the hour in a way that reflects the work.

Note where the in-home band sits in the table. At AED 180 to 500 it overlaps the specialist online band entirely, which means a family paying in-home rates is often paying specialist money for non-specialist teaching, with the difference going on the drive. That is the specific waste this page exists to name, and it is easy to test: ask a visiting tutor what the rate would be without travel, and ask which syllabus codes they have taught.

Eight to ten subjects, and the two or three worth funding

  • List every subject, the current grade and the grade the next step requires
  • Fund the one or two largest gaps, not the subjects that feel worrying
  • Mathematics first where any gap exists; it gates the most routes
  • A comfortable pass in a subject nobody needs is not a tutoring target

This is the decision that moves the total spend more than any rate negotiation. An IGCSE student in a Dubai school typically sits eight to ten subjects. Funding a weekly hour in each at a mid-market AED 220 is roughly AED 2,000 a week before anything else, which no sensible household does, and yet the instinct when results slip is to spread support thinly across everything.

The sharper method takes twenty minutes and costs nothing. Write down each subject, the most recent school assessment grade, and the grade the post-16 route your child wants actually requires. Most subjects will show no gap. One or two will show a gap of one grade, which is usually a paper-technique problem. One may show a gap of two or more, which is usually a content problem and the only subject that justifies a standing weekly slot.

Two refinements matter in this market. Mathematics is almost always worth funding first where there is any gap at all, because it gates the most post-16 routes and because its paper technique transfers to the sciences. And a subject your child dislikes but passes comfortably should be left alone; tutoring it buys a marginally better grade in a subject they will never use again, at the same hourly rate as the subject that is blocking their next step. One more refinement for a JLT household with two children at school: resist the symmetry instinct. Funding the younger sibling because the older one is being funded doubles the bill and halves the attention paid to the gap that actually mattered.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel? Find the code before you hire

The single most common waste in this market is hiring a tutor for the wrong board. The subject name is identical, the content overlaps heavily, and the assessment does not. A tutor who has taught Cambridge 0625 Physics for a decade will teach your Pearson 4PH1 candidate good physics and the wrong exam habits, and neither of them will notice until a mock paper comes back.

Finding the code takes one message. It is printed on the examination entry statement the school issues, and the examinations officer will confirm it. Ask for the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject, then keep that list, because it is the brief you give any tutor you speak to. A tutor who does not ask for it should not be hired, and that single screening question is worth more than a reference.

The structures differ in ways that matter to a plan. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for IGCSE, O Level and International A Level, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May and June and again in November. Pearson's modular structure in some subjects allows units to be sat across sessions, which changes when revision has to peak; Cambridge's linear structure concentrates it. Confirm which applies to your child's subjects before buying a revision block timed for the wrong month. None of this is exotic information. It is two lines on an entry statement, and the only reason it goes unasked is that tutoring pages in this market talk about grades rather than codes.

Tiering, and the grade ceiling families find out about too late

In several IGCSE subjects your child is entered on a tier, and the tier sets the highest grade available. Cambridge uses Core and Extended routes in subjects including Mathematics 0580; Pearson Edexcel uses Foundation and Higher tiers in subjects including 4MA1. The Core and Foundation routes carry a lower ceiling than the Extended and Higher routes, and the exact grade range is printed in the syllabus for the series your child sits, which is where it should be read rather than taken from a tutoring page.

The consequence is concrete. A student capped below the grade their chosen A Level or Higher Level course requires cannot reach it however well they perform, and no amount of tutoring in Year 11 changes that. Schools make tier decisions on evidence, usually during Year 10, and they can sometimes be revisited. The leverage point is Year 9 and early Year 10, which is also when tutoring is cheapest and shortest.

So the first question to ask the school is not 'how is he doing' but 'which tier is he entered for, and what is the ceiling'. If the answer is the lower tier and your child needs the higher one, you have a specific, time-limited, fundable problem, and a six to ten session block aimed at the evidence the school uses is a rational purchase. If the answer is the higher tier already, then the ceiling is not your issue and the money belongs elsewhere.

Choosing a series, and the economics of a resit

Series choice is a cost decision as much as an academic one, and it is barely discussed in this market. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May and June and again in November. A November resit sits roughly five months after June results, which means a focused block of support in September and October rather than a year of it.

The entry deadlines sit much earlier than parents expect, and that is where plans fail. The Pearson November series is the clearest worked example, because its dates are published: the November 2026 timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the results for the November 2025 series before it reached students on 22 January 2026. The entry deadline sat months before that window opened. Cambridge behaves the same way, with June entries closing in the spring and November entries closing well ahead of the autumn papers, each set per series and per timetable zone. The deadline is far enough before the first paper that a decision to resit has to be taken while the previous grade still feels raw.

Timetable zones are the other trap. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. A JLT family comparing dates with relatives abroad can easily be looking at a different zone's timetable. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the upcoming International GCSE November series, so the live official timetable on the board's site is the only version worth planning from.

Where IGCSE marks actually go, paper by paper

  • Maths: unshown method and misread command words
  • Sciences: units, significant figures, variables and uncertainty
  • English: retrieval and inference in reading; planning in writing
  • Economics and business: the evaluation marks nobody claims

Grades at this level are lost in a small number of repeatable places, and naming them is what converts an open tutoring budget into a short block. In mathematics it is unshown method, which forfeits marks the candidate had earned, and misread command words. In the sciences it is units, significant figures and the practical or alternative-to-practical component, where students who have done the experiments still lose marks on variables and uncertainty.

In English the losses are structural. Reading questions reward precise retrieval and inference, not general appreciation, and writing questions reward a plan. In economics and business the final evaluation marks on extended answers go unclaimed by students who explain thoroughly and then stop. In computer science it is pseudocode convention and trace tables, which catch confident programmers who have never written one against the clock.

The reason this matters commercially is that each of those is a short intervention. None needs a year. A student losing method marks in 0580 can be taught to show working in two sessions and will then need practice, not teaching. That is why the diagnostic block comes first in the formats above: four sessions that identify the loss honestly will usually save you six that would have been spent on content the student already had. There is a diagnostic shortcut a parent can run alone, without paying anyone. Take the last mock script, cover the grade, and read only the places where marks were not awarded. If the working is right and the marks are missing, it is technique. If the working stops early, it is content. The two answers point at completely different purchases.

07

What your school already provides, and the questions to ask before paying

  • Ask what free clinics, workshops and mock feedback the school already runs
  • Ask the subject teacher which paper and question type is losing marks
  • Get the board, code and tier for every subject in writing
  • Four sentences of brief replaces two paid sessions of diagnosis

Before any money changes hands, find out what you have already bought. Most Dubai secondary schools run after-school subject clinics, examination technique sessions, past-paper workshops in the spring term and a mock programme with feedback. Those are included in fees that, as KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026, are not rising for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year. A family paying AED 220 an hour for what the school runs free on a Tuesday has made an avoidable mistake.

The second question is for the subject teacher, and it is narrow: which paper and which question type is my child losing marks on, and what would you have them practise. Teachers answer this well when asked precisely and vaguely when asked how a child is doing. The answer is the brief for any tutor you then hire, and it also tells you whether the problem is content or technique, which decides the length of the block.

The third is about the tier and the code, covered above. With those three answers in hand a JLT parent can brief a tutor in four sentences and buy six sessions instead of a term. Without them, the first two sessions of any arrangement go on diagnosis that the school would have given you free, and at the specialist tier that is several hundred dirhams spent on information you already owned. Ask the questions in writing, by email, so the answers can be forwarded to a tutor verbatim. A paraphrase of a teacher's diagnosis loses exactly the detail that made it useful, and a forwarded message costs nothing to produce.

08

Past papers, mark schemes and the offer a cheap tutor may make you

  • Board materials are cited and linked, never copied or redistributed
  • Unreleased papers are not something a legitimate tutor can supply
  • Coursework support is criteria teaching and feedback, never drafting
  • Ask what they would do with a finished draft; the answer sorts teacher from service

At the bottom of this market a tutor will sometimes offer something they should not: a folder of scanned mark schemes, a bank of papers presented as unreleased, or coursework assistance that crosses into writing. Official Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are referenced and linked from the boards' own sites. They are not reproduced or supplied as downloads, and material that is not publicly released is not something any legitimate tutor has.

Where IGCSE subjects carry coursework or a controlled assessment, the boundary is the same one that applies at Diploma level. A tutor may teach the criteria, explain what is being assessed, question an approach and give feedback on work the student has already produced. A tutor may not draft it, rewrite it to completion, or supply text that appears in a submission. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright; the consequence of buying one falls on the student.

The practical screen for a parent is cheap and reliable. Ask a prospective tutor what they would do if your child sent a finished piece and asked them to fix it. A teacher describes feedback and a redraft by the student. A service describes a turnaround time. You will learn more from that one answer than from any list of qualifications, and it costs nothing to ask before the first paid session. The reason to run that screen at IGCSE rather than waiting for the Diploma is that the habits form here. A student who has had one piece of work quietly improved for them will ask again under pressure in Year 12, when the stakes are an Internal Assessment and a malpractice finding.

09

Starting from a JLT tower without overcommitting

The sequence that keeps the spend down is deliberately unglamorous. Collect the board, code and tier for each subject. Ask the school what it already runs and what the subject teacher recommends practising. Then send us the subject, the code and that recommendation, and we propose a tutor who has taught that code and a slot set after the commute home to JLT rather than during it.

You take one free trial lesson, at no cost and with no card details required, and only then decide. For most families we will propose the four-session diagnostic block rather than a weekly slot, because at the end of it you have a written answer about where the marks are going and a defensible decision about whether to continue. Matching usually takes two to four working days for mainstream IGCSE subjects.

Coverage is disclosed rather than assumed. Mathematics, the three sciences, English, Economics, Business and Computer Science are normally staffed in UAE evening hours. A less common language, a specialist art or design option, or an unusual code may not be, and when that is the case we say so instead of placing a general tutor against a specialist brief. The table below sets out how we handle it, including the fallback and what happens to the rate. Nobody in this market publishes a coverage limit, and several providers route UAE families to a non-UAE number rather than admit one. Disclosing it costs us occasional enquiries and saves you a term spent discovering the gap yourself.

Nearby areas we cover around JLT

IB Gram works with families across the lakes-and-towers belt. These notes concern access, school route and realistic session times rather than scenery, since those are what break a plan in February.

JLT

Lettered clusters around four lakes, with visitor registration at most towers and permit-controlled podium parking. Year 10 and 11 students are generally home between 16:00 and 16:50, so 17:00 is the dependable start on a school night.

Dubai Marina

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, sharing the same campuses. The internal bus loop pushes many Marina sessions fifteen to twenty minutes later than the equivalent JLT slot.

JBR

The beachfront strip past the Marina with no secondary school on it. Siblings across JBR and JLT often take consecutive online slots in one evening instead of two separate arrangements.

The Greens

Low-rise, family-dense and closer to the Al Barsha campuses, so 16:30 is usually workable. A common pattern here is two 60-minute slots back to back for two children.

The Views

Adjacent to The Greens with lighter evening traffic on the golf-course side. Year 11 students here tend to prefer a single longer weekend session during the spring term.

Barsha South

The route that adds most time to a JLT commute. Students travelling from here are home latest, and a 17:30 start is often the earliest that works.

Al Sufouh

A destination rather than a residential base for most JLT families; several of the schools their children attend sit here. The campus matters more for timing than the home cluster does.

Discovery Gardens

Immediately south of JLT with a large resident population and a different school mix, skewing towards Indian and British curricula. Session demand here concentrates on maths and the sciences.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in JLT

Al Barsha and Barsha South

The main destination cluster for JLT secondary students and a mix of Cambridge and Pearson entry across campuses. Two children in the same tower can be sitting different codes in the same subject, so ask the school rather than a neighbour.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Arcadia Global School
  • Dubai American Academy

Marina, Al Sufouh and Emirates Hills

The second cluster for JLT families, with several campuses running IGCSE before splitting into A Levels or the IB Diploma at 16. The post-16 entry thresholds differ between those routes and are worth reading before funding Year 11 support.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai College
  • American School of Dubai

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Quoz

A longer run from JLT, chosen for a particular curriculum rather than for proximity. Students on these routes are home latest, and families often settle on one 18:00 weekday session plus weekend work in Year 11.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Horizon English School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School

Schools are listed as context for the JLT catchment only. IB Gram asserts no affiliation with, endorsement by or relationship to any school named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Collect the board, code and tier

From the examination entry statement or the examinations officer, for every subject. This list is the brief. It takes one message to obtain and it prevents the most expensive mistake in this market, which is paying a specialist rate for the wrong board's technique.

  2. 02

Ask the school two narrow questions

Which paper and question type is losing marks, and what should be practised. Then ask what free clinics and workshops already run. Between them these answers remove two paid sessions of diagnosis and often reduce the plan you need to buy.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One full session at no cost with no card details required, with a tutor who has taught your child's code. If the fit is wrong, say so and we propose someone else. A trial ending in an honest no has done its job and cost you nothing.

  4. 04

    Buy the diagnostic block first

Four sessions, one subject, a written answer at the end about where the marks are going. The total is known before you start and the honest outcome is sometimes that no further support is needed. It is the cheapest way to replace a guess with a plan.

  5. 05

    Extend only against evidence

If the diagnosis points to technique, a six to ten session paper block follows. If it points to foundations, a weekly slot may be justified and we will say so plainly. Either way the next marked school assessment is the review point, not the calendar.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced from the bottom of the market up

Every tier on this page is named with its published rate and its source, starting at the cheapest. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai household transacts in.

Hired against a syllabus code

We ask for the board, code and tier before proposing anybody, because Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 are not the same examination. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across the whole area cluster we researched, which tells you how rare that question is here.

Short blocks with an end point

The default proposal is four diagnostic sessions, then a paper block if the evidence supports one. A standing weekly slot is available where foundations are genuinely the issue, but it is the exception rather than the opening offer.

Delivery and limits stated up front

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE and holds no UAE office. A page with 'home tutor' in the URL should say that in its first paragraph, not in small print.

Board materials cited, never copied

Syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked from Cambridge and Pearson directly. Nobody will email you a folder of scans, and nobody will produce coursework. That boundary is also the fastest way to tell a teacher from a service.

Coverage disclosed before you commit

If we cannot staff your child's subject or code this term, we say so at the enquiry stage rather than placing a general tutor and hoping. A declined enquiry costs us a booking and saves you a term of a plan built on the wrong brief.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in JLT: your questions answered

What does the cheapest IGCSE tutoring in Dubai actually get you?+

At the AED 33 to 65 an hour advertised by Tutopiya and EdFlik, you are generally buying a capable university student who knows the subject at their own level. What is missing is syllabus-specific knowledge: which code your child is entered for, which paper the practical skills are assessed on, and what the mark scheme accepts as a complete answer. For Year 7 to 9 homework support that is usually enough and paying more would be waste. For a Year 11 Extended or Higher tier paper with a grade threshold to clear, it rarely is.

How many of my child's IGCSE subjects should we actually fund?+

Usually one or two, occasionally three. Write down every subject, the most recent school grade and the grade the post-16 route requires. Most subjects will show no gap at all. Fund the largest gap first, and fund mathematics first where any gap exists, because it gates the most routes and its paper technique transfers to the sciences. A weekly hour across eight subjects at a mid-market AED 220 would be roughly AED 2,000 a week, and most of it would be spent on subjects that were never the problem.

How do we find out whether our school teaches Cambridge or Pearson?+

It is printed on the examination entry statement the school issues, and the examinations officer will confirm it in a single message. Ask for the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject, then keep that list, because it is the brief for any tutor you speak to. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580 and Physics 0625; the Pearson Edexcel equivalents include 4MA1 and 4PH1. The content overlaps and the assessment does not, so a tutor who has never asked which code your child sits is guessing.

Does the tier my child is entered for limit the grade they can get?+

Yes, and that is the fact families discover latest. Cambridge uses Core and Extended routes in subjects including Mathematics 0580, and Pearson Edexcel uses Foundation and Higher tiers in subjects including 4MA1. The lower route carries a lower ceiling, and the exact grade range is printed in the syllabus for the series your child sits, which is where to read it. Schools set tiers on evidence, usually in Year 10, and the decision can sometimes be revisited. Ask which tier and what ceiling before funding anything else.

Is starting in Year 10 better value than starting in Year 11?+

Considerably, for three reasons. The tier decision is usually still open in Year 10, so support can affect the ceiling rather than only the grade beneath it. There are more assessed tasks and mocks left for the work to influence. And availability is better, so you are choosing from the full set of specialists rather than from whoever is still free in April, when the published band stops mattering and scarcity sets your price. Year 9 is cheaper again, and the foundations built there are what keep the higher tier open.

Should a resit go in the November series or wait for June?+

November is usually the cheaper and better option, because it sits roughly five months after June results and needs a focused block in September and October rather than a year of support. Cambridge runs June and November series for IGCSE, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May and June and again in November. The constraint is the entry deadline, which the centre sets months ahead of the papers, so the decision has to be taken while the previous result is still fresh. Confirm the deadline with the examinations officer immediately.

Why does our exam timetable differ from a cousin's abroad?+

Because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. A JLT family comparing dates with relatives in another country can easily be reading a different zone's paper. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables before each series, so plan only from the live official timetable on the board's own site.

Can one tutor sensibly cover two IGCSE sciences at once?+

Sometimes at the lower tiers, rarely well at Extended or Higher. The content is separable but the mark schemes are not interchangeable: chemistry rewards a particular style of working in calculations, physics rewards unit discipline and formula selection, and biology discriminates on command terms. A tutor strong in one is often adequate in the second and that adequacy shows up in a mock rather than in a session. Two short blocks with two specialists usually costs less in total than one generalist working across both for a year.

Is it a warning sign if a tutor offers us scanned mark schemes?+

Yes. Official Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are referenced and linked from the boards' own sites, not reproduced or redistributed as downloads, and unreleased material is not something any legitimate tutor holds. A provider who emails a folder of scans has told you how it treats rules in general, which is worth knowing before coursework season. The same applies to any offer to produce assessed work: that is a malpractice risk and the consequence falls on your child, not the seller.

What does Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 look like as papers?+

Candidates sit two written papers at their tier, one with a calculator and one without under the current syllabus structure, with Core and Extended routes carrying different papers and different grade ceilings. Check the paper numbers and the exact structure in the syllabus for the series your child sits, since Cambridge has revised it. For tutoring purposes the practical consequence is that calculator technique and non-calculator fluency are separate skills, and a student comfortable in one can be losing most of their marks in the other.

Our child is on the lower tier in maths. Can that still be changed?+

Often, if you act in Year 10. Schools set tiers on internal evidence and will usually explain what evidence they would need to move a student up. That turns a vague worry into a fundable, time-limited brief: six to ten sessions aimed at the specific assessment the school uses to decide. Once entries are submitted the tier is fixed for that series, and no amount of tutoring lifts a grade above the ceiling. If the ceiling is already below what the post-16 course needs, replan the route rather than buying more hours.

How many sessions does one weak IGCSE paper usually need?+

Six to ten for a technique problem, longer if the foundations are missing. Technique moves quickly once taught explicitly: a student forfeiting method marks in mathematics can be taught to show working in about two sessions and then needs practice rather than teaching. A content gap stretching back to Year 8 is a different purchase and may justify a weekly slot across both years. The four-session diagnostic block exists to tell you which of those two you have before you commit to either.

Does a visiting tutor make sense for IGCSE if we live in a JLT tower?+

For most IGCSE work the case is weak. In-home rates are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, and that band overlaps the specialist online band entirely. Add visitor registration at the tower desk, podium parking and the drive across Sheikh Zayed Road at 17:00. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; lessons run one-to-one over live video, which also means hiring by syllabus code rather than by driving distance.

What free IGCSE support does a Dubai school usually already run?+

Most secondary schools run after-school subject clinics, examination technique sessions, past-paper workshops in the spring term, and a mock programme with written feedback. Those are inside fees that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 will not increase for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year. Ask the form tutor what exists before paying for anything, because at AED 220 an hour the cost of duplicating a free Tuesday clinic across a term is substantial, and the clinic is run by the teacher who sets the tasks.

What happens if nobody covers our child's IGCSE subject or code?+

We tell you at the enquiry stage rather than placing a general tutor against a specialist brief. Mathematics, the three sciences, English, Economics, Business and Computer Science are normally staffed in UAE evening hours, with a match in two to five working days. A less common language, a specialist art or design option, or an unusual code sometimes is not, and in that case we say so and you should look elsewhere. For Arabic and Islamic Education, support has to follow the school's own material, since additional content needs prior Ministry of Education permission.

Buy the code, the tier and four sessions, in that order

An IGCSE home tutor in JLT is worth buying once you know three things: the board and syllabus code, the tier and its ceiling, and which paper is losing the marks. With those in hand, four diagnostic sessions and then a short paper block will usually do what a year of weekly tutoring was going to be sold to you as. Market rates run from AED 33 an hour to AED 650, and the top of that range is mostly travel and reputation rather than teaching. Lessons from IB Gram are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free with no card details required.
