IB Home Tutor in JLT

An IB home tutor in JLT is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and almost none of that spread is teaching. It is travel, tower access and the narrow list of people willing to drive into Jumeirah Lakes Towers at 17:00. This page itemises the travel line, budgets the whole two-year Diploma rather than a single hour, and sets out how IB Gram delivers the same one-to-one teaching to JLT over live video instead.

IB & IGCSE in JLT

What the travel premium on an IB home tutor in JLT actually buys

Start with the line nobody itemises. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, which matches Unitors' published rates of AED 150 upward for IGCSE and AED 200 upward for IB. The same calibre of tutor coming to a JLT apartment is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate's Dubai rate table and at AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors. The gap between those two bands is the travel premium, and it is worth asking what it purchases, because the answer is not more teaching.

It purchases three things. The tutor's driving time, which on the run between Al Barsha or Business Bay and JLT at 17:00 is rarely under thirty-five minutes each way. The cost of their being unable to teach anyone else in that window, which is why visiting tutors cluster their bookings geographically rather than by subject. And the risk premium on a session that cannot start because Sheikh Zayed Road has stopped, which lands on the family as a late start or a rescheduled hour. None of those three improves a Diploma grade.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers adds its own friction. It is a grid of lettered clusters around four artificial lakes, with podium parking, visitor registration at most towers and lifts that serve thirty-plus floors. A tutor arriving at 17:05 for a 17:00 start may genuinely have been in the building for ten minutes. Families who have tried a visiting arrangement in JLT usually describe the same two problems: the first ten minutes of the hour evaporate, and the arrangement collapses the week the tutor's own schedule changes.

The useful way to budget IB support is not per hour at all. It is per Diploma. Two years from the start of Year 12 to results day is the real unit, because that is the period over which the decision plays out, and it is where the difference between formats compounds. One weekly hour of mid-market online tutoring across two Diploma years is a four-figure commitment. The same hours with travel inside the rate is a materially larger one, for the same contact time and a smaller shortlist of candidates.

IB Gram delivers to JLT as one-to-one online tuition over live video. We do not run home visits in Dubai; that is an India-only service, and this page says so rather than letting the URL imply otherwise. What a JLT family gets instead is the whole specialist pool rather than the drivable fraction of it, a session that starts at 17:00 because nobody is in traffic, and a rate with no travel line inside it. Context helps too: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, so the tutoring line is the one that still moves in a household budget.

At a glance

  • Online qualified tutors are quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour; in-home at AED 180 to 500
  • The difference is driving time, lost teaching slots and the risk of a late start
  • JLT's clusters, podium parking and visitor registration cost real minutes of a paid hour
  • Budget per Diploma, not per hour: two years is the unit the decision plays out over
  • KHDA confirmed no private-school fee increase in Dubai for 2026-27
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Most JLT enquiries concern the Diploma, but the programme a child is in decides what support is even possible. The Diploma has fixed external exams and internal assessment deadlines; the Middle Years Programme has criteria and no external papers in most subjects. Costing support without that distinction is how families buy the wrong thing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three normally at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Scored out of 45, with 42 subject points and up to three from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay matrix. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject, which means a Diploma budget has two distinct peaks: the coursework months and the final revision run. Those peaks are months apart and should not be funded as one continuous expense.

JLT students sit the Diploma at schools in Al Barsha, Al Sufouh, Barsha South and across the Marina. The commute means a weekday session before 16:30 is usually unrealistic, and Year 13 students juggling Extended Essay deadlines often prefer a single 90-minute slot to two shorter ones. UAE schools sit the May session, which sets the whole Year 13 calendar.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria marked out of 8. There is no external paper in most subjects, so a grade is built from tasks across the year rather than from one sitting. For a budget this matters enormously: money spent in May has almost nothing left to influence, while the same money in October sits in front of every remaining assessed task. The Personal Project in MYP 5 is externally moderated and needs process coaching rather than content teaching.

JLT families with a child in MYP 4 or 5 are often deciding between a Diploma and an A Level route for 16-plus. That decision changes what MYP support is for. Preparing for Analysis and Approaches is an algebra and proof problem; preparing for A Level Mathematics is a different emphasis again, and the school's own guidance should come first.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-school to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary and inquiry-led, with units of inquiry rather than discrete subject syllabuses and no external examination. Support at this stage is inexpensive relative to the Diploma and disproportionately useful, because number fluency and written structure carry into every later criterion. Shorter sessions work better than long ones, and a 45-minute slot twice a week usually outperforms a single ninety-minute block for a child under eleven.

Primary-age children in JLT mostly attend schools in Al Barsha and the Marina and are home earlier than secondary siblings, which makes a 16:00 start realistic. Households running two children in one evening find consecutive online slots far cheaper than a visiting tutor whose waiting time between siblings is inside the billed hour.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, a language-development portfolio and service learning. Offered by a small number of UAE schools. For a student with two strong subjects and three weak ones it can be a better fit than the full Diploma, and the tutoring spend concentrates on those two Diploma courses plus the portfolio, which rewards steady work rather than a late push.

Few schools in the JLT and Marina catchment run the Career-related Programme, so a family considering it is usually looking at a change of school as well. Confirm with the school's IB coordinator which pathways actually run in Year 12 before funding two years of preparation for a route that is not on offer nearby.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not all Diploma subjects cost the same to support, because they fail in different ways. The grid below names what each subject actually assesses and where the hours go, which is the information a JLT family needs before deciding how many subjects to fund at once.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency is the gate. At Higher Level the paper burden includes an extended-response paper and a technology-permitted paper, and marks go on proof structure and on method marks never claimed. Students who arrived from the MYP without secure manipulation spend their first term catching up, which is the most expensive term to be behind in.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics led, with heavier calculator use. Marks are lost on interpretation rather than computation: a correct regression with no comment on validity scores poorly. Support here is cheaper per grade point than Analysis and Approaches because the techniques are discrete and teachable in blocks.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics are the recurring pressure points, and the internal assessment requires a genuinely independent investigation. Higher Level adds substantial content on top of the shared core, so an HL Chemistry plan is usually the longest single commitment in a Diploma budget.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks are lost on unit handling, uncertainty treatment and the gap between knowing a formula and selecting it. The investigation rewards careful error analysis, which is teachable in two or three sessions and is where a mid-range mark usually becomes a strong one.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy with precise command-term expectations: 'outline', 'explain' and 'evaluate' each demand a different answer shape. Students who revise content without revising command terms plateau, and that is a cheap plateau to break.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation carry the marks. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on real news articles, which is a process and deadline problem as much as a content one, and it responds well to fortnightly rather than weekly support.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study application is the whole subject. Students who learn the tools but never practise applying them to an unseen organisation sit several marks below their knowledge. Support is best timed around the school's mock case study rather than spread across the year.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis under time, plus the individual oral and the HL essay. Marks move on structure and on the quality of the line of inquiry rather than on vocabulary, which means a small number of well-directed sessions can shift a grade.

History

HL and SL

Source evaluation for Paper 1 and essay argument for Papers 2 and 3. Higher Level adds a regional depth study, which doubles content. The historical investigation is 2,200 words and wants a researchable question, which is the single most useful thing a tutor can fix early.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, with the Extended Essay

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay together feed the three bonus points with the Extended Essay. Support is coaching on argument and on the choice of real-world objects, never writing. Few families budget for it and many then pay for rushed help in the final weeks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying Diploma support, costed over two years rather than one hour. The right choice depends on whether you are funding coursework months, revision months, or both.

One weekly slot across both Diploma years

A single 60 or 90-minute session a week with the same tutor from Year 12 September through to the final session. This is the most expensive format in total and the most effective for a student who is genuinely behind in a Higher Level subject. Priced honestly it is a two-year commitment and should be entered as one, not renewed by inertia each term.

  • Same tutor across both years, continuity of notes and records
  • 60 or 90 minutes; 90 suits Year 13 coursework weeks
  • Pausable around mock weeks and school examinations
  • Highest total spend of the three formats

Two funded peaks rather than a continuous line

Support concentrated in the coursework window and again in the pre-exam run, with the quiet months unfunded. For most JLT families this is the better value arrangement, because the Diploma's demands are not evenly spread and a standing slot in a quiet month buys very little. It needs planning around the school's own internal deadlines.

  • Block one around internal assessment and Extended Essay deadlines
  • Block two in the final revision run before the May session
  • Quiet months unfunded, slot released and rebooked
  • Total spend typically well below a continuous weekly booking

Single-subject intensive

Six to ten sessions on one Higher Level subject where the school reports a specific gap, with a defined end. Useful when the rest of the Diploma is sound and one subject is dragging the total. It is also the format to start with if you have never used a tutor, because it produces evidence before it produces a commitment.

  • One subject, one named gap, a stated finish point
  • Known total cost before the first session
  • Repeatable for a second subject if it works
  • Best entry point for a first-time arrangement

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in JLT

Itemising the travel line on a JLT home-tutoring rate

  • Eight online sessions at AED 799 a month is about AED 100 an hour of contact time
  • Four two-hour in-home visits at AED 1,599 to 1,799 is about AED 200 to 225 an hour
  • Ask any visiting tutor what their rate would be without travel; the gap is the premium
  • Market figures above are the providers' own published rates, not ours

This page exists because 'home tutor in JLT' is what parents type, so here is the honest answer to it. The in-home market in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's 2026 rate table and at AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors. Online delivery from a qualified subject tutor is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing AED 150 upward for IGCSE and AED 200 upward for IB. Monthly packages tell the same story more plainly: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Work the second pair through. Eight online sessions a month is roughly AED 100 an hour. Four two-hour in-home visits is eight contact hours for AED 1,599 to 1,799, or roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour. Identical contact time, double the rate. The table below splits that difference into what it is actually paying for, and only the first row is teaching.

None of these are IB Gram's prices. They are market rates published by the providers named, quoted here because a JLT parent weighing a visiting tutor against an online one deserves the arithmetic rather than a slogan. Our own model opens with a free trial lesson, with no card details required, and a consultation that sets the plan before any figure is agreed. One further point about the market figures: they are hourly, and hourly is the unit that flatters the cheapest tier, because a budget tutor at AED 60 who needs three sessions to close what a specialist closes in one is the more expensive choice by the end of the term.

The two-year Diploma budget, counted from Year 12 to results

Hourly rates are a poor unit for a decision that runs twenty-two months. The table below puts the Diploma in context against the household's other education costs, using figures that are either published market rates or published regulator facts. The anchor is useful: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are therefore the one line not moving; tutoring is the line that is.

The arithmetic parents find most surprising is the continuous weekly booking. Thirty-two teaching weeks a year, two years, one hour a week, at a mid-market AED 220, is roughly AED 14,000 for a single subject. Two subjects on the same basis approaches AED 28,000. The same money spent as two funded peaks, one around coursework deadlines and one before the final session, typically buys the outcomes that mattered at well under half the total.

Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a single weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward for specialist exam-year support. Those ranges are a reasonable planning basis. What they do not include, and what families forget, is examination entry if a student ever sits as a private candidate, and the cost of a second subject added in Year 13 when a grade slips.

What a JLT tower makes hard about a visiting arrangement

  • Visitor registration, podium parking and shared lifts take minutes out of a paid hour
  • Visiting schedules are routes; when a neighbouring booking ends, your slot moves
  • The drivable shortlist is adequate for common subjects and thin for Higher Level ones
  • An online slot at 17:00 starts at 17:00 regardless of Sheikh Zayed Road

Jumeirah Lakes Towers is a planned grid of lettered clusters arranged around four artificial lakes, and it behaves like three separate neighbourhoods depending on which side of the lakes you live. Access is the first friction. Most towers register visitors at a desk, parking is at podium level and often permit-controlled, and the lift bank on a thirty-plus floor tower at 17:00 is shared with everyone else coming home. A tutor who left Al Barsha at 16:20 can be in the building at 16:58 and still be unpacking a laptop on your dining table at 17:08.

The second friction is that the arrangement is fragile. A visiting tutor's week is a route, not a timetable. When one booking in the cluster ends, the economics of the drive change and your slot moves. Families in the towers describe the same pattern: a good first term, a renegotiated time in January, and a replacement tutor by March who does not know the subject as well.

The third is the quiet one. Hiring someone who will drive to JLT restricts you to people who will drive to JLT. For Standard Level Mathematics that is a large enough group. For Higher Level Chemistry with a deadline on an independent investigation, or Higher Level History with a regional depth study, it is not, and the compromise shows up in the teaching rather than on the invoice. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, and the reason is this one: the format quietly costs the family the specialist.

04

Which Diploma subjects soak up the hours, and why

  • Higher Level sciences carry the most additional content and the longest plans
  • Analysis and Approaches needs fluency drilling; Applications and Interpretation needs discrete techniques
  • Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay feed up to three matrix points
  • Coaching at the right moment beats a standing weekly slot on both core components

A Diploma budget is not six equal sixths. Higher Level sciences carry the most content above the shared core, which is why Higher Level Chemistry and Higher Level Physics plans tend to be the longest in any family's two years. Higher Level History adds a regional depth study on top of the prescribed subject and the world history topics, so its hours go on breadth of content and on essay argument rather than on technique.

The mathematics pair behaves differently. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is a fluency problem first: a student who cannot manipulate algebraic expressions quickly will be slow on every paper regardless of how well they understand the ideas. That is drillable, which makes it expensive in session count but predictable in result. Applications and Interpretation is a set of discrete techniques, cheaper to support because each one can be closed in a session or two.

The subjects families under-fund are Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which together feed up to three points on the matrix. Three points is the difference between several university offers. Neither needs weekly teaching; both need a handful of coaching conversations at the right moments, which is the cheapest high-value support in the Diploma and the most commonly skipped. The practical planning rule that follows is to rank the six subjects by how far the school's predicted grade sits below the grade the university offer needs, fund the largest gap first, and leave the subject where your child is already comfortable entirely alone. Families who fund all six evenly spend the most and move the total least, because four of those six were never the problem.

05

The examination calendar, counted backwards from the paper

Dates are where this market is weakest, and where a JLT family can plan properly with ten minutes of reading. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one.

In the UAE the choice is not when the series happens but which of the two you aim at, because Cambridge runs a June series and a November series here and the February and March series is offered to India only. June is the main event and November is the resit route, and the gap between them is what gives a JLT family a second attempt without losing a year. Cambridge June entries close in the spring, months before the first paper, and the exact day is printed on the centre's statement of entry rather than guessed at; November entries then close over the summer, after June results have shown whether one subject is worth repeating. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations work on the same two-chance rhythm, available in May and June and again in November: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Read either calendar backwards from the paper and the entry deadline always lands months earlier, which is the point worth planning around.

IB dates are deliberately absent from this page. UAE schools sit the May session, and that is the session a Year 13 calendar is built around, but no IB session or results date here has been confirmed against ibo.org, which blocks automated checking. Confirm every IB date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly, and treat any page that publishes one without a source with caution. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the live official timetable is the only version worth planning from.

Who regulates your child's school, emirate by emirate

JLT families move within the UAE more often than they expect, and the regulator changes with the emirate. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The powers are not identical. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum and fee approval sit with the emirate regulator rather than only inspection. At federal level, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations, which is the rule behind every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

For a tutoring plan the practical consequences are two. First, the inspection framework and its published bands differ by emirate, so a report from a Dubai school and one from a Sharjah school are not read the same way. Second, a family relocating mid-Diploma should ask the receiving school which regulator it answers to and which assessment calendar it follows, because the session the school enters students for is what the plan must be built around.

Ministry of Education equivalency, and what a JLT family must show

Equivalency is the step that turns a school certificate into something a UAE university or employer can accept, and it is where the published competitor information in this market is actually wrong rather than merely thin. For the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3.

Two details matter and are frequently misreported. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. And one page ranking for these queries states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Mathematics test before applying.

For the IB there is no figure on this page, and that is deliberate. The source that sets out the British and American requirements states no IB points threshold, so no IB equivalency number should be published without reading it on a Ministry of Education page or the emirate attestation authority's own site. Equivalency is also not something IB Gram performs, arranges or guarantees: we describe it, cite the authority, and point you to the official channel. Nor is tutoring required for it, whatever a page implying urgency might suggest.

What a tutor may and may not do with an IA, EE or TOK essay

  • Teaching criteria, questioning a research question and feedback on the student's own drafts: legitimate
  • Drafting, completing or supplying text for submission: malpractice, and the student carries it
  • Keep every draft; a genuine improvement trail is visible in them
  • Board materials are cited and linked, never copied or redistributed

The Diploma's internal components are where this question becomes urgent, and one page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a four-figure price. Buying one is a malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student, not the seller. The boundary is not subtle. A tutor may teach the assessment criteria, explain what the command terms demand, interrogate a research question, point at a weak paragraph, and give written feedback on work the student has already produced.

A tutor may not draft, rewrite to completion, or hand over text that then appears in a submission. The practical test for a parent is the draft trail. If each version is visibly your child's own writing getting better, with the tutor's feedback showing as changes your child made, the arrangement is sound. If a draft arrives in a voice your child does not use in conversation, a moderator will notice what you noticed.

The same restraint applies to materials. Official IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are referenced and linked from the board's own site, never reproduced or supplied as downloads. A provider that sends you a folder of scanned mark schemes has told you how it treats rules in general, which is worth knowing before Year 13. Ask any provider two direct questions before the first paid session: what would you do if my child sent you a finished draft and asked you to fix it, and what would you refuse to do. The answers separate a teacher from a service, and they are cheaper to collect in September than in April.

Starting from a JLT address, and what we will decline

  • School, year, subjects, levels and the last report, then a proposed tutor and slot
  • One free trial lesson, no card details required, before anything is agreed
  • Two to four working days to match common Diploma subjects
  • If no specialist is free this term we tell you, rather than substituting quietly

The sequence is short and the trial comes before any money. Tell us the school, the year group, the subjects and levels, and what the last school report actually said. We propose a tutor and a weekday slot set after the commute home rather than during it, you take one free trial lesson with no card details required, and only then is anything agreed. Matching usually takes two to four working days for common Diploma subjects.

Availability is disclosed rather than assumed, because concealing it is how families end up with a weak match they cannot easily exit. Mathematics, the three sciences, English, Economics and Business Management are normally covered in UAE evening hours. A niche Higher Level option, a less common language, or a specific Theory of Knowledge requirement may not be, and if we do not have the right person this term we will say so and you should look elsewhere.

Three things we will decline. Producing any part of an assessed component. Claiming a regulator or board relationship we do not hold, including anything that reads as KHDA endorsement, because a training-institute permit is a specific thing issued to operations with premises and IB Gram does not operate one. And promising a particular grade, which no honest provider can sell. What we will quote is a plan, a session count and a review point at which you decide whether to continue. The last of those matters most in a two-year budget, because a plan with no review point renews itself by habit, and habit is the single most expensive feature of any tutoring arrangement in this city.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around JLT

IB Gram supports families across the lakes-and-towers belt and the communities feeding the same schools. The notes below concern access and session timing, because those decide whether a plan survives the year.

JLT

Lettered clusters around four lakes, podium parking and visitor registration at most towers. Secondary students commute out and are generally home between 16:00 and 16:50, so 17:00 is the dependable weekday start.

Dubai Marina

Across Sheikh Zayed Road and sharing JLT's school routes. The internal bus loop adds fifteen to twenty minutes once school finishes, which pushes many Marina sessions to 17:30.

JBR

The beachfront strip beyond the Marina, with no secondary school on it. Siblings in JBR and JLT often share one evening of consecutive online slots rather than two separate arrangements.

The Greens

Low-rise and family-dense, with children spread across Al Barsha and Barsha South campuses. A 16:30 start is usually workable here, earlier than for the towers.

The Views

Adjacent to The Greens with the same school routes and slightly lighter evening traffic on the golf-course side. Families here commonly run two 60-minute slots back to back.

Al Sufouh

A destination rather than a base for most JLT families: several of the schools their children attend sit here. Knowing the campus matters more for timing than knowing the cluster letter.

Barsha South

The school route that adds the most time to a JLT commute. Students travelling from here are home latest, and 17:30 is often the earliest realistic start.

Bluewaters Island

Small resident population reached by footbridge from JBR. A locally based subject specialist is rarely available, which makes the online format the practical choice rather than a preference.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in JLT

Al Barsha and Barsha South

The largest destination cluster for JLT secondary students, mixing IB and British provision. Confirm whether your child's campus runs IGCSE at 16 or the MYP, because the two produce different Diploma entry gaps and different budgets.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Arcadia Global School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Al Sufouh, Marina and Emirates Hills

The second cluster, reached in under twenty-five minutes from most JLT towers outside peak. Several campuses here run the full Diploma, which is why Year 12 and 13 enquiries from JLT cluster around these schools.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • American School of Dubai
  • Dubai College

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

A longer run chosen for curriculum rather than proximity. Students on this route are home latest of all, and families frequently settle on a single 18:00 session a week rather than two earlier ones.

  • Raffles World Academy
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Horizon English School

Schools appear here only as context for the JLT catchment. IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from or relationship to any school named.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report, not just the subject list

The last school report, with predicted grades and internal assessment marks if it carries them, tells us where the hours should go. Without it the first session is diagnosis you have already paid your school to produce, and in a two-year budget that is a line worth removing.

  2. 02

Pick the slot after the commute, not during it

We work back from the school finish and the route home to JLT. A student still on Sheikh Zayed Road at 16:30 should not have a 16:30 session. For most JLT towers 17:00 is dependable and 17:30 is safe when the route comes through Barsha South.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One full session at no cost, with no card details required, so your child meets the tutor before any commitment. If the fit is wrong, say so and we propose someone else. A trial that ends in an honest refusal has done exactly its job.

  4. 04

Decide between a continuous slot and two funded peaks

We will usually recommend the peaks: a block around coursework deadlines and a block before the final revision run, with the quiet months unfunded. A continuous weekly slot is available if the gap is genuinely structural, and we will tell you which case we think yours is.

  5. 05

Review at the next marked task

At the end of a block we look at the next real piece of school assessment. If it moved, we close or pause the plan. If it did not, we change the method or the tutor rather than adding hours to an approach that is not working, and we say which we are doing and why.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The travel line is shown, not buried

Market rates for in-home and online delivery are published side by side on this page with their sources, so the premium is visible. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all and two quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai household transacts in.

A whole-Diploma budget, not an hourly rate

Two years is the unit the decision plays out over, so the figures here are set out monthly and in total, anchored against KHDA's confirmation of no private-school fee increase for 2026-27. An hourly rate flatters the cheapest tier and hides the arrangement's real size.

Delivery and limits stated plainly

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE and holds no UAE office or centre. A page with 'home tutor' in the URL owes the reader that sentence early rather than in a footnote.

Board dates from the boards

Cambridge and Pearson milestones here come from the boards' own published pages and are cited as such. No IB session or results date appears, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unsourced date on a planning page is worse than no date.

The honesty boundary on coursework

Tutors teach criteria, question research questions and give feedback on the student's own drafts. Nobody drafts an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. In a market where a ranking page sells finished coursework, that line needs writing down.

Coverage disclosed before you commit

If a Higher Level option has no specialist free this term, we say so at the matching stage rather than placing a general tutor and hoping. A declined enquiry costs us the booking and saves you a term of a plan that was never going to work.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in JLT: your questions answered

What does an IB home tutor in JLT charge once travel sits inside the rate?+

Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one tutoring at AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors quote AED 200 to 500. The same calibre of tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 150 for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. The difference is driving time, the tutor's unsellable travel window, tower access and the risk of a late start. Package rates make it starker: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions is about AED 100 an hour against roughly AED 200 to 225 for in-home visits.

What does two years of Diploma support cost from Year 12 to results?+

Taken as a continuous weekly hour at a mid-market AED 220, thirty-two teaching weeks a year across two years is roughly AED 14,000 for one subject, and about AED 28,000 for two. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 upward for specialist exam-year work. Most families get what mattered for well under half the continuous figure by funding two peaks instead: the coursework window, then the final revision run.

Can a tutor reach our JLT apartment without a visitor pass every week?+

Most JLT towers register visitors at a desk, with podium parking that is often permit-controlled, so a weekly visiting arrangement usually means a weekly registration and a lift share at the busiest hour of the day. Families describe losing five to ten minutes of a billed hour to it. That is one of the reasons IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai: lessons run one-to-one over live video, so a 17:00 session starts at 17:00 whatever the lobby and Sheikh Zayed Road are doing.

Which is dearer to support properly, Higher Level Chemistry or Higher Level History?+

Chemistry, usually, and for a structural reason. Higher Level Chemistry carries substantial additional content above the shared core, and its internal assessment requires a genuinely independent investigation, so the plan runs long in both content and process. Higher Level History adds a regional depth study to the prescribed subject and world history topics, so its hours concentrate on breadth and essay argument. History responds faster to technique work on source evaluation; Chemistry needs sustained content coverage, which is more sessions over more months.

How far before the examination does the entry deadline actually fall?+

Further than most families expect, and in the UAE you are counting back from June or November, never from a February paper, because Cambridge offers the February and March series to India only. Cambridge June entries close in the spring, months ahead of the first paper, with the exact day printed on the statement of entry; November entries close over the summer, which is what makes November a workable resit route once June results are in. Pearson gives the clearest published illustration: its November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the correct timetable version for your zone is essential, since it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses a paper.

Does the KHDA fee freeze change what tutoring should cost in Dubai?+

Not directly, but it changes which line in your budget is variable. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are therefore fixed for the year while tutoring is not, which makes the tutoring line the one worth scrutinising. It is also the line most easily reduced by scoping work to blocks with an end date rather than a standing monthly commitment.

Who regulates the school if we move from Dubai to Sharjah mid-Diploma?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in that emirate and, unlike KHDA, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Dubai schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to the Department of Education and Knowledge, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the Ministry of Education. Ask the receiving school which assessment session it enters students for, because that is what a support plan has to be rebuilt around.

What does the Ministry of Education require for British-curriculum equivalency?+

Students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. One page ranking for these searches states that six IGCSE subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Equivalency is not something IB Gram performs or guarantees, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

If our child sits Arabic at IGCSE, does it reduce the five we still need?+

No. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count, which means a student needs five other accredited subjects at no less than E or grade 3 in addition to them. That detail changes subject-choice planning in Year 9 and Year 10, because a family counting Arabic towards the five would believe they had met the rule when they had not. Verify the current wording with the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation authority before relying on it for a university application.

How much of the Diploma grade sits in internal assessment?+

Enough that the coursework months are one of the two places a budget should concentrate. Every Diploma subject carries an internally assessed component, and alongside them sit the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, which together feed up to three points on the matrix. The exact weighting differs by subject and level, so ask your child's teacher for the subject's own breakdown rather than taking a general figure from a tutoring page. The practical consequence is that support in the coursework window buys more than the same money in the quiet term before it.

Where exactly does Extended Essay help stop being allowed?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may interrogate the research question, explain the assessment criteria, discuss method and sources, point at a paragraph that does not do its job, and give written feedback on drafts the student has written. A tutor may not draft the essay, rewrite it to completion, or supply text that appears in the submission. The test a parent can apply is the draft trail: each version should visibly be your child's own writing improving. A provider offering a finished Extended Essay is selling a malpractice finding.

Is one 90-minute session a week better value than two 60-minute ones?+

For Year 13 coursework work, usually yes, because an Extended Essay or internal assessment conversation needs runway and two short sessions spend their openings twice. For fluency work such as Analysis and Approaches algebra, two shorter sessions are better, since the gains come from frequency rather than from length. For a Year 12 student new to the Diploma, start with one 60-minute slot and change it once you can see which kind of work the sessions are actually doing.

What should we do if nobody is free for our Higher Level option this term?+

Hear it plainly and plan around it. We disclose coverage at the matching stage rather than placing a general tutor against a specialist requirement, so if a niche Higher Level option or a less common language has no specialist available in UAE evening hours this term, we say so and you should approach someone else. In the meantime the school's own subject teacher remains the best route, and a short block on a different subject that is also slipping may be a better use of the same money.

Do lessons continue when we travel out of Dubai over the summer?+

They can, and the summer is often the cheapest useful window in the whole Diploma. With no school timetable competing, July and August suit transition work: algebraic fluency before Analysis and Approaches, command-term practice before a science Higher Level, or a research question settled before the Extended Essay term begins. Online delivery follows you as long as the time difference leaves a workable slot for both sides. Families who prefer to pause keep the slot and resume in September rather than rejoining a queue.

What is the cheapest month of the Diploma to start paying for help?+

September of Year 12, counterintuitively, because every assessed task in the two years is still ahead of it and a short block then prevents the structural gaps that cost most to close later. The dearest month is April of Year 13, when the specialists with strong records are fully booked, availability rather than the published band sets your price, and there is almost nothing left in the calendar for the work to influence. If you can only fund one block, fund the first one.

Budget the Diploma, not the hour, and keep the travel line out of it

Searching for an IB home tutor in JLT is reasonable; paying AED 180 to 500 an hour so that someone can cross Sheikh Zayed Road at 17:00 is harder to justify. The teaching is the part worth buying, and it transfers to a screen without loss. Set the budget across both Diploma years, fund the coursework window and the revision run rather than every quiet month in between, and start with a free trial lesson that costs nothing and needs no card details. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed to arrive after the commute home rather than in the middle of it.
