IB Physics Tutor in Al Mizhar

Parents searching for an IB Physics tutor in Al Mizhar are usually comparing their own villa community with Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej, as though one of them must hold more Physics teachers than the others. It does not. Higher Level Physics is taught by one or two people in any Dubai school, and none of them live on your street. IB Gram matches your child to a Physics specialist and teaches the lessons one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched on Physics specialism, not on driving distance from Al Mizhar
  • Live one-to-one video lessons timed to Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Al Mizhar

Al Mizhar against the communities next door, and why the Physics answer is identical

An Al Mizhar family looking for Physics help tends to run the same mental comparison. Mirdif has the schools, so perhaps Mirdif has the tutors. Al Warqa has the biggest cohorts, so perhaps the supply is better there. Al Khawaneej is quieter, so perhaps rates are lower. Nad Al Hamar is closer to the Ras Al Khor road, so perhaps a tutor driving from Deira gets there faster. Every one of those comparisons is about geography, and Higher Level Physics is the subject where geography matters least.

Here is the arithmetic that collapses the question. A Dubai secondary school running the Diploma Programme will typically have one or two teachers qualified to take Physics at Higher Level, because the cohort for it is small. Spread that across the eastern suburbs and the total number of people within a twenty-minute drive of Al Mizhar who can confidently teach the Higher Level additional topics is tiny, and all of them are already employed full time by a school. The pool you are actually choosing from is not your neighbourhood's pool. It is whoever is free on a Tuesday evening and willing to drive.

That is the comparison worth making instead: not Al Mizhar against Mirdif, but a local generalist against a Physics specialist who is not local. A tutor who teaches Physics as their subject knows that the data-based questions reward a candidate who draws the error bars before the line of best fit, and that the standard trap in the fields topic is a student who can quote the inverse-square relationship but cannot explain why the field inside a hollow conductor is zero. A capable maths teacher helping out with Physics will not reliably know those things, however near your villa they live.

IB Gram resolves the comparison by removing distance from it. Lessons for every UAE family are taught one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own script on screen. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. What that buys an Al Mizhar family is the Physics specialist rather than the nearest available adult, and it buys the half-hour of commuting back as revision time.

The rest of this page is written as a set of comparisons, because that is the question Al Mizhar parents arrive with. What the surrounding communities actually differ on. What the Dubai market charges and what each price band buys. How the Physics components differ from one another in what they reward. Where the marks go in each one. And what to do about the one genuine local variable, which is what time your child gets home and how much usable attention is left when they do.

At a glance

  • Higher Level Physics is taught by one or two staff in a typical Dubai school, so local supply is thin everywhere in the eastern suburbs
  • The real choice is a nearby generalist against a Physics specialist taught over video, not one community against another
  • Lessons are one-to-one and online; IB Gram does not visit homes in the UAE
  • Published Dubai hourly rates on this page run from AED 33 at the budget end to AED 650 at the named-examiner end, each attributed
  • The local variable that does matter is arrival time after a long bus route, which decides when a weekday session can start
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics sits inside a programme, and the programme decides what the subject is for. Al Mizhar families send children into IB continuum schools in Mirdif and into British-curriculum schools that switch to the Diploma at sixteen, so both routes into Physics appear in this catchment.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two-year Diploma, where Physics is chosen at Higher or Standard Level alongside five other subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Physics at Higher Level carries additional topics and a heavier problem-solving load, and the Internal Assessment is a single independent scientific investigation written by the student. This is where most Physics tutoring demand in the eastern suburbs sits.

In Dubai the Diploma is one of seventeen licensed curricula, and International Baccalaureate schools accounted for seven per cent of private enrolment in 2024-25 according to the Dubai Media Office. For an Al Mizhar family that means a smaller Physics cohort than a British-curriculum A Level group, and therefore fewer teachers to go round.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The five years before the Diploma, where science is assessed against four criteria rather than by paper marks. Students are judged on knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. A student who scores well here but has never been asked to carry an uncertainty through a calculation will feel the Diploma Physics jump sharply in the first term.

Uptown International School in Mirdif runs the continuum, so a proportion of Al Mizhar students arrive at Diploma Physics straight from the Middle Years Programme rather than from IGCSE. The gap those students most often need closing is algebraic fluency and formal uncertainty treatment, not conceptual physics.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The inquiry-led primary programme, taught through transdisciplinary units rather than separate subjects. There is no Physics as such, but the habits that later decide a Physics grade begin here: measuring carefully, recording what was actually observed rather than what was expected, and explaining a result to someone else. Primary support in this catchment is usually about numeracy and written explanation.

Eastern Dubai has primary provision closer to home than secondary provision, including a Dubai Schools campus at Al Khawaneej, so younger children in Al Mizhar generally travel less than their older siblings. Tutoring demand at this stage is lighter and tends to be about keeping pace rather than closing a gap.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely tutored alone. The subjects below are the ones Al Mizhar families most often pair with it, usually because the same student is fighting the same algebra in two places at once.

Physics

HL and SL

The page's subject. Mechanics, waves, electricity and magnetism, nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level adding depth across the same themes. Marks are lost in uncertainty treatment, in graph work, and in explanation questions where a student describes a result instead of accounting for it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual partner subject for a Physics student. Calculus, trigonometric identities and algebraic manipulation are the tools Physics assumes you already have. A student failing Physics questions on kinematics is often failing the differentiation inside them rather than the physics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics-heavier maths route, taken by some Physics students whose degree plans do not demand Analysis and Approaches. Regression and modelling transfer usefully into the Internal Assessment, but the lighter algebra means Physics problem-solving needs separate attention.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Frequently taken alongside Physics by students aiming at engineering or medicine. Energetics, kinetics and equilibrium reward the same unit-tracking discipline as Physics calculations, so the two subjects can be revised with one shared habit rather than two.

Biology

HL and SL

The third science in many eastern-suburbs timetables. Its demands are different from Physics: volume of recall, precise command-term response, and statistical treatment of data. Students who carry a Physics approach into Biology essays tend to under-write the explanation.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Chosen by Physics students who want a second technical subject. The internal assessment is a developed solution with documentation, which is a different kind of project discipline from a scientific investigation and often needs separate planning support.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Overlaps with Physics in materials, structures and energy. The design cycle and the extended written components reward students who can justify a decision rather than describe it, which is the same skill Physics explanation questions test.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A science option that uses mechanics in an applied setting, including force, work and power in human movement. Students often find the quantitative sections easier after Physics tutoring has fixed their handling of units and rearrangement.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

A transdisciplinary option covering energy, systems and sustainability. Energy-flow calculations and data interpretation are the sections where a Physics-trained student has an immediate advantage, and where other students most often need help.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Compulsory across the Diploma. For a Physics student the useful ground is how experimental evidence becomes accepted knowledge, and what counts as proof in a natural science. Support here is about structuring an argument, never about producing the assessed essay.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of running Physics support, each suited to a different point in the two years. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video to Al Mizhar.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

A fixed slot each week that tracks what the school is teaching now. The tutor works from your child's own notes, problem sets and returned scripts, so the session reinforces the school's sequence instead of running a parallel course. This is the format that suits a student whose grade is drifting rather than collapsing.

  • One subject, one level, one tutor across the term
  • Starts from the school's current topic, not a generic syllabus order
  • Written note after each session saying what was covered and what to practise
  • Slot timed around the bus arrival time, not around the tutor's commute

Component-focused blocks

A short run of sessions aimed at one weak component rather than the whole subject. Data-based questions and graph work are the usual target, because they are learnable quickly and they appear in every paper. Six to eight sessions is a realistic block, and it ends when the student can do the thing unaided.

  • Diagnostic first session on the student's own marked script
  • One component at a time: uncertainties, graphs, explanation questions
  • Past-paper work from material the school already provides
  • Ends on a measurable check, not on a fixed number of hours

Investigation and coursework coaching

Support for the independent scientific investigation, run as process coaching. The tutor helps a student choose a question that can actually be measured, plan a method that generates enough data, and understand what the assessment criteria reward. The writing and the analysis stay the student's own work throughout.

  • Question selection and feasibility, before time is wasted on data collection
  • Method design, control of variables and uncertainty planning
  • Reading the criteria descriptors so the student knows what is being judged
  • Feedback on the student's draft; never drafting or completing it for them

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mizhar

01

What actually differs between Al Mizhar and the community next door

  • Journey time varies by community; specialist availability does not
  • Every row in the table answers the last column the same way
  • The travel premium is paid by the family, in dirhams and in a later start time
  • Removing travel changes the tutor pool from local to subject-specific

Very little, for Physics purposes. The eastern suburbs share a school cluster, a road network and a bus timetable. What changes between Al Mizhar, Mirdif, Al Khawaneej and Al Warqa is how far a child travels and what time they get home. What does not change is the number of people within reach who can teach the Higher Level additional topics well, because that number is small everywhere and is not distributed by postcode.

The table below sets the comparison out honestly. Journey times are indicative and depend on the school, the route and the day; treat them as the shape of the problem rather than a timetable. The final column is the one that matters, and the answer in it is the same in every row. A family in Mirdif, three minutes from the school gate, is choosing from the same thin specialist pool as a family at the far end of Al Khawaneej 2.

Once you accept that, the comparison stops being about location and becomes about format. Driving a tutor to a villa in the eastern suburbs costs the tutor an hour of unpaid time, and the published rate reflects it. Teaching the same hour over live video costs nobody that hour, and the pool widens from whoever is in the eastern suburbs to whoever teaches Diploma Physics. For a subject with one or two specialists per school, that is not a marginal improvement in choice. It is the difference between having a choice and not having one.

What the Dubai market charges, and what each band buys a Physics student

Start at the cheapest end, because that is where most Al Mizhar families start and it is where the money is most often wasted. Tutopiya publishes online rates from around AED 33 to AED 52 an hour and EdFlik from around AED 45 to AED 65, both staffed largely by university students. For a Year 10 pupil who needs company while doing homework, that band is honest value. For a Higher Level Physics candidate eight weeks from a paper, an hour at AED 45 with somebody who last met the course as a student is an hour that produces encouragement and no marks.

The qualified-tutor band runs higher. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200 an hour. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tuition at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for named premium or examiner-led teaching. Monthly packages circulate too: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits, which tells you precisely what the travel is worth to the provider charging for it.

Those are market figures published by those providers and read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices, and they are quoted here so an Al Mizhar family can see the shape of the market before anyone quotes them anything. The comparison that matters is the middle two rows against each other. The in-home premium is not buying better Physics; it is buying an hour of a tutor's driving. Spend the same money on an hour with a Physics specialist taught over video and the subject expertise goes up while the price stays flat. For IB Gram's own arrangement, start with the free trial lesson and the consultation rather than a rate card.

The Physics components compared: what each one is really testing

A parent who knows the subject is assessed by papers and an investigation still rarely knows that the papers reward different things. Treating them as one undifferentiated exam is the commonest reason a student revises for forty hours and moves by two marks. The multiple-choice section rewards speed and the elimination of a wrong option; the data-based section rewards careful reading of a graph and a sentence that names a relationship; the extended-response paper rewards a worked line of reasoning with the physics made explicit.

The table lays those differences out next to where Al Mizhar students most often lose the marks. Confirm the current weightings against your child's own subject guide or their Diploma coordinator before you plan around them, because the Physics guide has been revised and the numbers below are the broad shape rather than a quotation from the IB. The point of the table is not the percentages. It is that a revision plan which drills content but never times a multiple-choice section, or never writes a conclusion that states a relationship with its uncertainty, has left two of the three papers untouched.

The investigation sits apart from all of it and is worth about a fifth of the grade in most current arrangements. It is marked on criteria a student can read, and the marks are lost early, in the choice of question, long before the writing starts. A question with one independent variable that can be measured enough times to show a trend is worth more than an ambitious question that produces four data points. A tutor's job here is to make the student's own question workable and to explain what the criteria reward; the investigation is written by the student and nobody else.

04

Uncertainties and graphs: the two things that separate a 5 from a 7

  • Significant figures in an answer are limited by the instrument, not by the calculator
  • Error bars are drawn before the line of best fit, not after it
  • Gradients come from the line, read between two widely spaced points
  • A conclusion sentence should name the relationship and attach an uncertainty

If a Physics student in the eastern suburbs is stuck in the middle of the grade range, the cause is usually not the physics. It is the handling of measurement. A student who can derive the equation but writes an answer to five significant figures from a ruler reading has told the examiner they do not understand what the instrument could possibly know. Uncertainty is not an administrative add-on to a Physics answer; it is part of the claim being made, and it is marked as such.

Graph work fails in a similarly mechanical way. The sequence that earns marks is fixed: plot the raw data, draw the uncertainty bars, then draw the best line that passes through them, then take the gradient from two widely separated points on that line rather than from two data points. Students who draw the line first and the bars afterwards have inverted the logic of the whole exercise, and it shows in every subsequent answer. Maximum and minimum gradients for an uncertainty in the gradient follow from the same construction, and they are quick marks once the construction is a habit.

Both skills are fixable in a handful of sessions, which is why they are worth attacking first. They are also independent of topic, so an hour spent on them pays back in mechanics, in electricity and in the investigation at the same time. This is the specific reason a Physics specialist beats a nearby generalist: a generalist helps the student get the right answer, and a specialist notices that the right answer was quoted to an impossible precision and that the marks were lost anyway.

05

The one local factor that is real: arrival time and usable attention

Having argued that geography does not decide tutor quality, it is worth being precise about the thing geography does decide. A student in Al Mizhar on a long bus route to Al Warqa or Al Qusais can arrive home in the late afternoon, hot, hungry and with the day's attention mostly spent. Book Physics at that moment and the hour buys you a tired student transcribing worked solutions. Book it ninety minutes later and the same hour buys attention.

The practical rule in the eastern suburbs is to put Physics after a break and a meal, and to keep the session to a length the student can hold. Sixty focused minutes beats ninety drifting ones, and two sessions of forty-five minutes on separate evenings beats a single ninety-minute block for a subject that needs problem practice rather than exposition. Online delivery helps here in a dull but genuine way: a video lesson can start at the time that suits the household, and it does not need a half-hour margin for somebody else's drive from Deira.

There is a second local factor worth planning around, which is the shape of the UAE week. The weekend falls on Saturday and Sunday, with a short Friday. A Saturday or Sunday morning slot gets a rested student and is the single most underused hour in most families' timetables. Midweek, the realistic window is one session, and starting it on a Tuesday or Wednesday gives the student time to act on the feedback before the school week ends. During Ramadan, sessions can move after Iftar and keep running rather than pausing for a month.

06

Verifying a Physics tutor in the UAE: permits and what you may ask

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 is the instrument that created it
  • No published fine schedule exists, so any quoted amount is unverified
  • A training institute with premises needs a separate KHDA permit; IB Gram has neither premises nor that permit

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two consequences follow for an Al Mizhar parent comparing options. First, a tutor who tells you no permit is needed is wrong: individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you are quoted as unverified. Second, the permit is free, so a provider adding a licensing fee to your bill should be asked what exactly the fee covers.

There is a separate point about school staff. Press reporting on Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules indicates that private and charter school staff there are barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current wording with the relevant authority before relying on it. The practical reading for a Dubai family is simple enough: do not arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately for money, however convenient it looks. Note also that an operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a different thing from an individual's permit. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and does not describe itself as KHDA approved.

07

Academic honesty on the Physics investigation, stated plainly

The independent investigation has to be the student's own work, and the boundary between teaching and malpractice is not vague. A tutor may explain what the assessment criteria ask for. A tutor may discuss whether a research question can be measured with the equipment available. A tutor may read a draft and say that the uncertainty treatment is thin, that the graph is plotted against the wrong variable, or that the evaluation lists limitations without ranking them. All of that is teaching.

A tutor may not write the investigation, draft a section of it, rewrite the student's sentences into their own, supply the data, or produce a method the student then adopts without understanding it. Some operators in this market sell completed Internal Assessments outright. That is an academic-integrity breach that puts the student's whole Diploma at risk, and it is not a service IB Gram will provide at any price. The same boundary applies to the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay.

The practical version for a parent is a test you can apply yourself. Ask your child to explain, without notes, why their method controls the variable it claims to control. If they can, the work is theirs and the tutoring has done its job. If they cannot, something has gone wrong regardless of how good the document looks. The same test works on any piece of coursework in any subject, and it is more useful than any assurance a provider gives you.

08

Starting: the trial, the match, and the coverage limit we will tell you about

The first step is a short consultation about the actual problem, which is rarely the one stated. A parent says Physics; the diagnostic conversation and a look at a marked script often show algebra, or uncertainty handling, or a student who understands the lesson and cannot start a question alone. Getting that right before booking matters more than the choice of tutor, because it decides what the first eight sessions are for.

Then a free trial lesson with the proposed tutor, one-to-one over live video. Treat it as a diagnostic rather than a demonstration: send the last marked Physics paper beforehand and ask the tutor to work through where the marks went. A tutor who can tell you which component is bleeding marks and why, inside an hour, is worth booking. One who spends the hour describing their experience is not. If the match is wrong, say so and ask for a different one; that is normal and early is the cheapest time to do it.

Here is the coverage limit, stated before you ask. Higher Level Physics specialists are scarce, and there are weeks when no UAE-based specialist has a free evening slot that suits an Al Mizhar schedule. Where that happens, IB Gram will say so and offer a specialist based elsewhere, teaching the same course over the same live video on Gulf Standard Time, rather than quietly substituting a general science tutor. You will be told which it is before you book. Across the eastern suburbs, that transparency is the whole of the argument: you are choosing the right Physics teacher, not the nearest one.

Where we tutor

The communities Al Mizhar is usually compared with

These are the places an Al Mizhar parent weighs up when they assume a different postcode means a better tutor pool. The notes are what genuinely differs, which is mostly journey time and school mix.

Mirdif

The nearest school cluster and the one most Al Mizhar secondary students travel to. Short journeys by eastern-Dubai standards, a mix of IB continuum, British and American provision, and the reason Al Mizhar parents assume supply is better a few streets away.

Al Khawaneej

Quieter and further out, with primary provision and a Dubai Schools campus but no large secondary IB cohort inside the community. Families here travel in the same direction as Al Mizhar families, usually a little further.

Al Warqa

Home to the largest school cohorts in eastern Dubai, including very large Indian-curriculum schools. More students does not mean more Higher Level Physics teachers; the Diploma groups remain small even where the school is enormous.

Al Rashidiya

Closer to the airport corridor and to Deira, which shortens a drive from the older parts of the city. It is the one direction where an in-home tutor's travel time genuinely falls, and rates there still sit in the same published bands.

Nad Al Hamar

On the Ras Al Khor side, with quick access to Dubai Festival City and the Business Bay crossing. Useful if your child's school sits south of the creek, and a reminder that journey time depends on which way the bus turns.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

A longer run from Al Mizhar but a growing secondary option, including The Millennium School. Evening traffic on the Academic City road is the constraint, which pushes a realistic weekday session start later.

Dubai International Academic City

University campuses rather than schools, which matters for a different reason: it is where many Dubai-based undergraduate tutors study, and where the budget end of the local tutoring market is staffed from.

Al Aweer and Al Khawaneej 2

The outer edge of the eastern suburbs, where villa plots are large and school runs are longest. Any in-home arrangement out here carries the full travel premium described in the rate table below.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mizhar

Mirdif and Al Mizhar

The nearest cluster, and the one that decides most Al Mizhar timetables. The schools themselves sit mainly in Mirdif rather than inside Al Mizhar, so nearly every secondary student here is on a bus or in a car. Students we support attend schools across this group; naming them implies no relationship with any of them.

  • Uptown International School
  • Al Mizhar American Academy
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School
  • The Sheffield Private School

Al Warqa, Al Qusais and the southern run

The second direction, with the biggest cohorts and the longest journeys in this part of Dubai. Where a family in this group is choosing between a Physics specialist taught online and whoever can reach them by seven in the evening, the specialist usually wins on both quality and start time.

  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Al Warqa
  • The Westminster School
  • The Indian Academy
  • The Millennium School, Dubai Silicon Oasis
  • Dubai Schools Al Khawaneej

Schools are named to describe the local education ecosystem Al Mizhar families actually use; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any of them is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

A short consultation to find out what is actually failing: a topic, a paper, the algebra underneath it, or the investigation. Send the last marked script if you have one. This conversation decides the plan, and getting it right saves four wasted sessions at the start.

  2. 02

Match on Physics, not on distance

We look for someone who teaches Diploma Physics as their own subject at the level your child sits, with experience of the component you named. Because lessons are online, the search covers Physics specialists rather than whoever can reach Al Mizhar by seven in the evening.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, used as a diagnostic

One hour, one-to-one over live video, before any commitment. Ask the tutor to work through a marked paper and tell you where the marks went. You should finish the hour knowing what the first block of sessions will target and roughly how long it will take.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the bus, not the commute

A weekly time chosen for when your child is actually capable of concentrating, after arrival and a break. Weekend mornings are available and are usually the most productive hour in the week. Ramadan timings move after Iftar rather than pausing.

  5. 05

Review against evidence after a month

Four sessions in, look at a marked piece of work rather than at a feeling. Has the uncertainty treatment changed? Are graph marks being picked up? If the evidence has not moved, we change the plan or the tutor instead of adding hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specialist pool, not the local pool

Higher Level Physics is taught by one or two people in a typical Dubai school and they are all employed full time. Online delivery changes the question from who is near Al Mizhar to who teaches this course, which for a scarce subject is the whole difference.

Market rates published with their sources

The rate table on this page names the provider behind every figure and the month it was read. Three of six competitor pages reviewed publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in.

Component-level diagnosis

Sessions target the component that is losing marks rather than the subject in general. Uncertainty treatment and graph construction are the fastest gains in Physics, and both are independent of topic, so the work pays back across the whole course.

A stated boundary on coursework

A tutor explains the criteria, tests whether a research question is measurable and gives feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor does not write any part of the investigation. That boundary is published here because other operators in this market do not hold it.

Honest about availability

When no UAE-based Physics specialist has a slot that fits your week, you will be told, and offered a specialist elsewhere teaching the same course on Gulf Standard Time. No competitor page reviewed discloses a coverage limit at all.

Timed for the eastern suburbs

Slots are set around when a child on a long bus route can actually think, and the UAE weekend is treated as the resource it is. Nobody needs a half-hour margin for a drive from Deira, so the hour starts when your household is ready.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mizhar: your questions answered

Is it easier to find an IB Physics tutor in Mirdif than in Al Mizhar?+

No, and the reason is structural rather than local. A Dubai secondary school running the Diploma usually has one or two teachers qualified to take Physics at Higher Level, because the cohort is small, and those people are employed full time by the school. That is true of schools in Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej equally. Living nearer the school gate shortens your child's bus ride; it does not add Physics specialists to your neighbourhood. The choice that actually improves the teaching is a Physics specialist taught one-to-one over live video rather than the nearest available adult.

Why would I pay the same for an online Physics lesson as for a tutor who drives to Al Mizhar?+

You would not, and that is the point of the rate table above. Published Dubai figures put in-home one-to-one visits at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor teaching online, and monthly in-home packages circulate at AED 1,599 to 1,799 against around AED 799 online. The gap is travel, not teaching quality. Spend the in-home premium on a Physics specialist instead of on an hour of somebody's driving and the subject expertise rises while the cost stays flat.

Does my child need Higher Level Physics for engineering at a UAE university?+

Check the specific programme, because requirements vary by university and by course and they change. Engineering faculties commonly expect Physics and a mathematics subject at Higher Level, and some specify Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches rather than Applications and Interpretation. The reliable method is to read the admissions page for the exact degree your child wants, note the subject and level required, and plan the Diploma choices backwards from that. A tutor can help with the Physics; the entry requirement itself should come from the university, not from any tutoring provider.

How many Physics sessions a week does a Higher Level student in the eastern suburbs need?+

One well-placed session a week is the normal starting point, with a second added only for a specific reason such as a component that is badly behind or a term with an investigation deadline inside it. Two sessions on separate evenings beat one long block for Physics, because the subject needs problem practice between explanations rather than more exposition. For a student on a long bus route, the practical limit is attention rather than time, which is why a weekend morning slot often outperforms a second weekday evening.

My child understands Physics in class but freezes on the paper. What is going on?+

That pattern is almost always a problem with starting a question rather than with understanding the content. Following a worked solution uses recognition; starting cold requires choosing which relationship applies before any numbers appear. The fix is mechanical: practise identifying what is conserved, what is constant and what is being asked, on questions the student does not then complete. Ten openings in twenty minutes trains the skill that is missing far faster than three full solutions. It is one of the quickest changes a specialist Physics tutor can make.

What are error bars for, and why do they cost my child marks?+

Error bars show how precisely each point was measured, and they are drawn before the line of best fit because the line has to pass through them. Students who draw the line first and add bars afterwards have inverted the logic, and the error shows up again in every gradient and conclusion that follows. Marks are also lost when a conclusion states a relationship without attaching any uncertainty to it. This is learnable in a few sessions, applies to every topic, and is one of the clearest separations between a mid-range and a top Physics script.

Can a tutor help with the Physics investigation without crossing an IB rule?+

Yes, within a boundary worth stating plainly. A tutor may explain what the assessment criteria reward, discuss whether a research question can be measured with available equipment, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite the student's sentences, supply data or hand over a method the student does not understand. Operators selling completed Internal Assessments exist in this market; using one risks the entire Diploma. IB Gram does not provide that at any price.

What time should a Physics session start for a student travelling home to Al Mizhar?+

Later than most families assume. A student arriving home in the late afternoon from Al Warqa or Al Qusais has spent most of the day's attention on the journey and the school day. Allow a break and a meal, then start. Ninety minutes after arrival is a reasonable default, and sixty focused minutes beats ninety drifting ones. Because lessons are online, the slot can be set around your household rather than around a tutor's drive across Dubai, which in practice means an earlier finish and a student who sleeps on time.

Does a Physics tutor teaching an Al Mizhar family need a UAE permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE requires a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific figure quoted to you as unverified.

Is a university student at Academic City a reasonable Physics tutor for a Higher Level candidate?+

For a younger student needing structure and company while working, often yes, and the published budget rates of roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour reflect that honestly. For a Higher Level candidate close to a paper, usually not. The gains at that stage come from someone who can mark a script against the scheme, name the component losing marks and explain why an explanation answer scored two out of four. That is a different skill from having passed the course recently, and it is what the specialist bands are charging for.

Which Physics topic should we start with if there is time for only one?+

Not a topic at all. Start with uncertainty treatment and graph work, because they are assessed everywhere and they are independent of content. A student who plots raw data properly, draws bars before the line, takes a gradient from the line and writes a conclusion with an uncertainty attached picks up marks in mechanics, in electricity, in the option content and in the investigation at once. Topic revision afterwards then lands on a student who can actually record what they have worked out.

Can the same tutor take Physics and Maths: Analysis and Approaches together?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, because a great deal of Physics difficulty is really algebra and calculus difficulty. A tutor who teaches both can fix the rearrangement inside the Physics question rather than treating it as someone else's problem. Where a single person cannot cover both at the level required, two specialists working to one plan is better than one generalist covering both badly. The decision should be made on the diagnostic, not on the convenience of a single invoice.

Does the Al Mizhar school mix change which Physics route my child takes?+

It changes the entry point rather than the destination. Students coming through the continuum at Uptown International School reach Diploma Physics from the Middle Years Programme, where science is assessed against criteria rather than by paper marks, so the first gap is usually formal uncertainty treatment and algebraic fluency. Students arriving from a British-curriculum school have met calculation-heavy papers but not criterion-based investigation work. Both arrive at the same Diploma course, and knowing which route your child took tells a tutor what to check in week one.

What should I send before a first Physics session for an Al Mizhar student?+

Four things, and they take ten minutes to gather. The most recent marked Physics paper or test, with the examiner's or teacher's comments left on it. The school's current topic and the next assessment date. The level sat, Higher or Standard, and the other subjects in the Diploma. And the realistic time your child walks through the door on a weekday. The first three let the tutor plan a diagnostic instead of a getting-to-know-you hour. The fourth decides whether the slot you book is one your child can actually use.

Choose the Physics teacher, not the postcode

Al Mizhar, Mirdif, Al Khawaneej and Al Warqa differ in journey time and almost nothing else that matters to a Physics grade. Each has a handful of Higher Level specialists, all of them already teaching full time, and none of them are waiting on your street. Start with a free trial lesson used as a diagnostic: send the last marked paper, ask where the marks went, and judge the answer. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed around when your child gets home rather than around anybody's drive across Dubai.
