IB Home Tutor in Al Mizhar

Parents in Al Mizhar search for an IB home tutor because a villa community out past Mirdif is a long way from anywhere, and a tutor at the door sounds like the simple answer. The market charges AED 180 to 500 an hour for that, and a large part of it is the drive. IB Gram delivers one-to-one IB tuition to Al Mizhar families as live video lessons in Gulf Standard Time instead, and spends the difference on syllabus specialists rather than on travel.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, never a tutor at a UAE address
  • Matched to the subject and level, with Internal Assessment work included
  • Gulf Standard Time slots set from the end of a long bus route
  • Free first lesson worked on a past question from the real course

Home tutoring in Al Mizhar: the honest answer, then the useful one

Start with the question as asked. Can you get an IB home tutor in Al Mizhar? Yes, from the local market, and it costs more than most parents expect. Published Dubai rates put in-home one-to-one tuition at AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate's rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertised between AED 200 and 500. Monthly in-home packages in this market run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Al Mizhar sits beyond Mirdif, which means a tutor coming here is driving out and back through Algeria Street or Tripoli Street, and a meaningful part of that rate is recovering the journey rather than paying for teaching.

IB Gram does not sell that service. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one to one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service offered only in India. We are not going to pretend that is a sacrifice you should make for our convenience, so here is the actual argument: the Diploma Programme is not one subject. It is six subjects at two levels plus three core elements, each with its own Internal Assessment and its own mark scheme, and the thing that moves a grade is somebody who knows the specific component your child is losing marks on. The number of such people within a twenty-minute drive of Al Mizhar is small. The number teaching that exact component somewhere in the world is not.

So this page is written from the subject rather than from the neighbourhood. What the six groups actually assess. Where the mark schemes catch students out, group by group. What each Internal Assessment really is and what proportion of the grade it carries. What Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay demand. And what a past-paper session looks like when it is done properly rather than as a worksheet handed over.

The scheduling point is worth making once, because it is the reason the comparison is not close for most households here. Al Mizhar students travel to schools in Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais on collecting bus routes that can run the better part of an hour. A tutor driving to your villa for a 5pm start is leaving home at 4.15pm and arriving somewhere between 4.50pm and 5.30pm depending on the traffic, and the hour you paid for shrinks accordingly. A video lesson at 5.30pm begins at 5.30pm.

What follows assumes you want the detail rather than the pitch. If your child is in DP1 and drifting, or in DP2 with a predicted grade that blocks an offer, the useful next step is a free trial lesson with a specialist in the weakest component, working on a past question from their own subject and level.

At a glance

  • In-home tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour; qualified online tutoring at AED 150 to 300
  • IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service
  • The Diploma is six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS
  • Each subject carries its own Internal Assessment with its own criteria and weighting
  • Al Mizhar bus routes run long, so the slot is set from the arrival home rather than a default hour
  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on assessed work, and writes none of it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Mizhar family deals with the Diploma either as a current reality or as the thing their Year 11 child is about to walk into. These are the stages we cover.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The Diploma Programme

Six subjects chosen across the subject groups, typically three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. Each subject carries internally assessed work alongside written examinations. The Diploma is scored out of 45, with core points available from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay combined.

For Al Mizhar families the nearest Diploma provision sits in the Mirdif and Al Garhoud directions. Cohorts in this corridor are modest, which means a single teacher often carries both levels of a subject, giving excellent continuity and very little slack when a student falls behind. Confirm every structural detail with your school's IB coordinator before planning around it.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject rather than by paper marks, which builds research and reflective skill well and timed-paper technique less well. The step into the Diploma is mostly about that technique, with one genuine content exception in mathematics, where the standard MYP route leaves algebraic fluency to be built.

Uptown International School is the nearest continuum option to these villa communities. A family moving between an MYP school and a British-curriculum school in Mirdif or Al Warqa is a routine local case, and the hard part of either direction is the switch between criteria-based tasks and timed papers with mark schemes.

PREAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

IGCSE into the Diploma

The commonest crossing in Dubai, where UK-curriculum schools dominate enrolment. IGCSE produces students well drilled in recall and standard calculation and short on three Diploma habits: justifying a method, handling uncertainty properly, and writing to a command term that asks for evaluation rather than description.

An Al Mizhar student moving from a British-curriculum school in Al Warqa or Al Qusais into a Diploma Programme in Mirdif or Al Garhoud is a standard local path. A bridging block of six to ten sessions in the summer before DP1 removes most of the first-term shock, and costs less than the remediation families otherwise buy in November.

POSTAges 17-19

University entry from the Diploma

What the subject and level choices are actually for. Specific degrees expect specific Higher Level subjects, and in mathematics the choice between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation matters for engineering and physical science routes. Requirements vary by university and between admission cycles.

Check requirements directly with each university your child is considering, UAE institutions included, rather than relying on any summary. IB Gram does not perform, guarantee or accelerate Ministry of Education equivalency, and no verified IB points threshold for equivalency is published on ministry sources; ask moe.gov.ae or your school registrar for that figure.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma is six separate examinations with six separate failure modes. These are the subjects Al Mizhar families ask about, with what the assessment actually rewards in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic technique, proof and pure mathematics, expected by most engineering and physical science degrees. The non-calculator paper exposes fluency gaps directly, and Higher Level adds proof by induction, complex numbers and vectors. Marks are lost to method not shown rather than to method not known.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and data with technology assumed throughout and a heavier statistics load. Not an easy option, and the recurring loss is interpretation: a correct calculation with no sentence explaining what it means in the context the question set up.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes covering motion, matter, waves, fields and nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level extensions throughout. Fields is where Higher Level students most often break, because three analogous models have to be held apart under time pressure without merging their equations.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organised into structure and reactivity, with the mole underpinning everything. A student who understands mole arithmetic but cannot execute it in fifteen seconds loses marks across every paper, and equilibrium is the largest conceptual hurdle in the course.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume plus precision. Extended responses want specific terminology in a specific order, and a general paragraph about a process scores poorly however accurate it is. Data-based questions are the second reliable loss, because they reward analysis rather than recall.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation carry the marks. A correctly labelled diagram with the shift drawn the right way earns credit no surrounding prose can recover, and the evaluation marks at the end of extended responses are the commonest thing students leave behind.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the stimulus material rather than recall of theory. A textbook answer about motivation that never mentions the organisation in the case is capped, and that pattern repeats across every paper in the subject.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Analysing how a text produces an effect, not summarising what it says. The individual oral and the comparative work reward close reference to specific passages, and students who read widely still lose marks for writing around a text rather than into it.

English B and language acquisition

HL and SL

Comprehension, productive writing and oral components, with the level chosen by the school and occasionally mismatched to the student. Knowing which course your child is registered for matters before any tutoring is booked, because the components differ.

History and Global Politics

HL and SL

Argument and source handling. Marks go to a sustained line of reasoning supported by evidence, and the source-based questions reward provenance and limitation analysis that students treat as preamble rather than as the question.

Theory of Knowledge

Core element

An essay on a prescribed title plus an exhibition, contributing to the core points. The essay rewards precise handling of knowledge questions rather than general philosophising, and it is the component students most often leave until it is too late to think properly about.

The Extended Essay

Core element

An independent research essay in a subject of the student's choice, with a word limit and a supervised process. The research question decides most of the mark, and the reflections on the process are assessed alongside the essay itself rather than as paperwork.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Mizhar families use Diploma support, all delivered as live one-to-one video lessons in Gulf Standard Time rather than at a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one in one subject

A single sixty-minute lesson a week in the subject where the marks are leaving, running alongside the school's own sequence. Across the two years of the Diploma that is seventy or more sessions, which is why continuity matters more than intensity: a tutor who sees a student weekly recognises a pattern, where one brought in for a crisis only sees the crisis.

  • Same tutor and slot each week, set from the arrival home
  • Follows the school's scheme of work and internal deadlines
  • Internal Assessment timeline protected because the tutor is there when it starts
  • Written note after each lesson naming component and practice

Component-targeted block

Six to ten sessions aimed at one component rather than one subject. The clearest cases are a specific paper a student keeps losing, Higher Level extension content in a single theme, or the Internal Assessment method early in DP1. Each has one objective, a fixed length and a visible finish, which makes it easy for a parent to judge.

  • One component or one skill per block, agreed in advance
  • Built entirely from past questions at the student's own level
  • Marked against published criteria, with the loss pattern named
  • Finishes and stops, with no rolling commitment

Core support: Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Method coaching on the two core components that carry points and are routinely left too late. The tutor teaches how knowledge questions work, how a research question has to be narrow enough to answer, and how the reflections are assessed. Feedback comes as questions on the student's own drafts; nothing is written or edited to completion by us.

  • Knowledge questions and prescribed-title handling taught explicitly
  • Research-question choice treated as the decisive step
  • Reflections understood as assessed work, not paperwork
  • Started early, because neither component rewards a late sprint

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mizhar

01

In-home against online for an Al Mizhar villa, with the numbers

This is the comparison the search is really asking for, so here it is with figures rather than adjectives. Every rate below was read on the provider's own public page and is attributed to them; none is an IB Gram price.

In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour. Bestimate's rate table runs AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. The gap between those two bands is not a quality difference. It is a journey, and from Al Mizhar it is a long one in the wrong direction at the wrong time of day.

There are things the in-home option genuinely wins, and a page that pretended otherwise would not be worth reading. Physical presence works better for a restless younger child, it requires no device or connection, and some families simply prefer it. Against that, the pool of available tutors shrinks to whoever will drive out past Mirdif, the session start time becomes hostage to traffic, and specialist subjects at Higher Level often have no local candidate at all.

IB Gram's position is straightforward: we do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and that service exists only in India. So the comparison in the table is between market options, with our own model named as one of them. Read it and decide. For most Diploma families in these villa communities the deciding factor is not the rate but the specialist, because at Higher Level the right person is rarely the nearest one.

What the Diploma actually assesses, group by group

Families often buy IB tutoring as though the Diploma were a single qualification with a single difficulty. It is six subjects plus three core elements, and the reason a student is losing marks in Higher Level chemistry has nothing in common with why they are losing marks in English A.

That has a direct consequence for how you choose. A general IB tutor can be competent across several subjects at Standard Level and is rarely the right purchase at Higher Level, where the distinctive content and the specific mark-scheme conventions matter. When a parent asks for an IB tutor, the useful follow-up question is always which subject, at which level, and which component.

The table sets out what each group's assessment rewards. Read it alongside a marked paper, because the shape of the loss usually identifies the group's characteristic trap: unexplained method in mathematics, unstated assumptions in the sciences, undrawn or mislabelled diagrams in economics, summary instead of analysis in language and literature.

Confirm current structures, weightings and internal deadlines with your school's IB coordinator rather than from any third-party page. Subject guides are revised, and we do not reproduce or supply IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes; those belong to the IB and reach you properly through the school.

One cross-group observation is worth the money it saves. In four of the six groups the largest recoverable gain is not content at all but command-term discipline: answering the verb the question used, and no other. A student who writes an evaluation when the question said describe has produced more work for fewer marks, and a student who describes when the question said evaluate has capped themselves at the bottom of the band. That is a single habit, correctable in a term of weekly feedback, and it pays in every subject on the timetable at once.

03

The Internal Assessment, subject by subject

Every Diploma subject carries internally assessed work, and in the sciences and mathematics it commonly accounts for around a fifth of the final grade. That makes it the largest single component outside the written papers, and it is also the one most often left until there is no time to do it properly.

What the Internal Assessment is differs completely between subjects, which is why generic advice about it is useless. A mathematical exploration is an independent piece of written mathematics. A science investigation is experimental or data-based work with a research question and an evaluation. An economics portfolio is a set of commentaries on real-world articles. A language oral is a timed spoken analysis. The criteria, the lengths and the deadlines are different in each case.

The common factor is that the decisive step happens early. In almost every subject the choice of topic, question or article sets the ceiling, and no amount of careful writing afterwards raises it. Four sessions in DP1 spent on criteria and on choosing properly protect a fifth of the grade at ordinary rates. A rescue block in the final weeks costs more, arrives at exam-year rates, and cannot change the choice.

The boundary is the same everywhere and it is not negotiable. A tutor may teach the criteria, model method on a different example, question the student's draft and point out where a claim is unsupported. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of a submission. One page in the researched competitor set sells completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price; that is a malpractice route and the student carries the finding, not the seller.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay: the points nobody plans for

  • The Extended Essay research question decides most of the mark, and it is set early
  • Process reflections are assessed work rather than paperwork
  • Theory of Knowledge rewards precision about knowledge claims, not opinion
  • Neither component responds well to a late sprint, which is how most students approach them

The two core components contribute points to the Diploma total, and they are the two things students in this corridor most often postpone, partly because neither has weekly homework attached. Postponing them is expensive in a way that is invisible until the deadline.

The Extended Essay lives or dies on its research question. A question too broad produces a survey with nothing argued; one too narrow produces a page and a half. The supervised process also includes reflections, which are assessed rather than administrative, and a student who writes them retrospectively loses marks that cost nothing to earn along the way. A tutor's useful role here is interrogating the question early and responding to drafts with questions.

Theory of Knowledge rewards precision about knowledge claims rather than general opinion, which is an unfamiliar discipline for most sixteen year olds. The essay is written on a prescribed title and the exhibition requires objects connected to a knowledge prompt. Students who approach the essay as an opinion piece lose marks in exactly the places the criteria concentrate, and the fix is explicit instruction in handling a knowledge question.

Both components sit under the same honesty rule as everything else. A tutor teaches method, questions a draft and points out unsupported reasoning. A tutor does not write, draft or complete any part of a Theory of Knowledge essay, an exhibition commentary or an Extended Essay. Ask to see the feedback: questions your child must answer are right, sentences they could paste in are not.

05

What a past-paper session looks like when it is done properly

  • One or two questions per session, not a whole paper
  • The student holds the mark scheme and finds the divergence themselves
  • The loss is named specifically, then tested immediately on a second question
  • The written note should say which question type and which error, not 'good progress'

Past-paper work is the phrase every tutor uses and the thing most of them do badly. Handing a student a paper, waiting while they attempt it and then reading out the answers is not teaching; it is invigilation with commentary. A session that moves marks looks different, and a parent can recognise the difference from the written note afterwards.

The sequence that works is narrow. One question, attempted under something close to timed conditions. Then marking against the published mark scheme, with the student holding the scheme and identifying where their answer diverged from what it rewarded. Then the diagnosis, named out loud: this was method not shown, or an unstated assumption, or the wrong command term answered. Then a second question of the same type immediately, to prove the diagnosis.

That produces one or two questions per session rather than a whole paper, and parents sometimes read that as slow progress. It is the opposite. A student who has genuinely understood why four marks left a specific question will keep those marks in every future question of that shape, where a student who has been shown twelve correct answers has learned twelve answers.

You can test for this on the trial lesson. Ask the tutor how many questions they expect to cover in forty minutes. An answer of one or two with the mark scheme open is the right answer. An answer of a whole paper is a sign of the other approach, which is cheaper to deliver and worth less to buy.

06

Higher Level or Standard Level, and when to change

Three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard is the usual shape, and the decision about which is which is made early and revisited rarely. It deserves revisiting, because it is the single biggest lever on both workload and university options.

Higher Level is not Standard Level with more questions. In most subjects it adds distinctive content, an extra component or substantially greater depth, and the step up is steeper than the timetable suggests. A student carrying three Higher Levels where one of them serves no purpose in their university plans is spending a great deal of time on a subject that will never be asked about.

The decision has to be made against destination rather than comfort. Engineering and physical sciences commonly expect Higher Level mathematics in the Analysis and Approaches route and often Higher Level physics; medicine-adjacent routes commonly expect Higher Level chemistry and often biology. Requirements vary by university and change between admission cycles, so read each target course's own entry page rather than any general rule.

If a change is being considered, the window is early and the conversation is with the school's coordinator rather than with a tutor. What a tutor can usefully contribute is evidence: whether the marks in that subject reflect a content gap that work would close, or a genuine mismatch between the student and the level.

There is a middle option families in this corridor often miss. Rather than dropping a Higher Level, buy a defined block of support in it for one term and then decide, with marks from that term as the evidence. Six to ten sessions on the specific extension content causing the trouble costs far less than two years of struggling through a level that was never the problem, and far less than discovering in DP2 that a required subject was dropped for comfort in DP1. Either outcome of that term is useful, which is what makes it a reasonable thing to buy.

Scheduling from Al Mizhar, including Ramadan and travel

  • Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej routes need 6.30pm or later, or a weekend morning
  • Set the slot from the worst afternoon, not the best one
  • Agree the Ramadan shift before Ramadan begins
  • Lessons follow the student if the slot moves; no address is involved

A session that does not happen costs what one that does. For families out here that is the whole scheduling argument, because the bus routes serving Al Mizhar from Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais can run the better part of an hour and students arrive home late.

Set the slot from the arrival home on a bad afternoon rather than a good one, and add recovery time. For most households here that means 5.30pm at the earliest and 6.30pm or 7pm for students on the Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej routes. Families who cannot make a weekday evening work are usually better served by a weekend morning, where the comparison is a rested student against an exhausted one rather than one hour against another.

Plan the exceptions before they arrive. During Ramadan school days are shortened and household routines move towards the evening, so the usual slot shifts to after iftar; because no tutor is travelling anywhere, that change costs a message. Holiday weeks suit a short defined block on one component better than a weekly slot limping along while the family is away.

Travel is a standing feature of households in these communities. Online lessons follow a student to another time zone if the slot is adjusted, which no arrangement tied to a villa address can do. Send the dates in advance and sessions move rather than vanish; the thing to avoid is letting a trip become a four-week gap, because the restart costs more than the sessions missed.

08

Starting, and the limits we will tell you about

Send four things: the subject and level, which component is losing marks, a photograph of a marked paper or the latest report, and the time your child is realistically through the door on a bad traffic afternoon. The second item is the one that turns a broad request into a narrow brief, and the fourth is the one that decides whether the arrangement survives to February.

The free trial lesson runs about forty minutes on a past question from your child's own subject and level, with your child working and the tutor teaching. Ask the tutor how many questions they plan to cover; one or two with the mark scheme open is the right answer. Afterwards you get a written read on the loss pattern and the weeks it implies, and nothing is owed if you stop there.

Sometimes the answer is that nobody suitable is free. Higher Level specialists in narrow components, minority languages, and late-evening Gulf Standard Time slots are the three that run short, and a request made a fortnight before final papers is the hardest of all. We give a realistic match time rather than filling the hour with a generalist, because the wrong tutor costs the fee and then the weeks.

What we ask for is limited to what matching needs: subject, level, component, school if you want its sequence followed, and a contact for scheduling. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history across every subject. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 governs the data we hold, and the privacy link on this page sets out what is kept and how to have it deleted.

Where we tutor

Al Mizhar and the communities it shares a school run with

Al Mizhar is a villa district beyond Mirdif, and its practical geography matters for both the in-home rate and the slot a lesson can hold. These are the areas it shares schools, buses and traffic with.

Mirdif

The immediate neighbour west, and where most Al Mizhar secondary students actually attend school. It is also where an in-home tutor would be driving from, which is why the travel premium is built into local in-home rates.

Al Khawaneej

Further east, villa communities with the longest journeys in this cluster. Families here and in Al Mizhar share bus routes and arrival times, and both do better with later slots or weekend mornings.

Al Warqa

South-west, with large cohorts and long collecting routes. A significant share of Al Mizhar students attend school in this direction, and arrive home late enough that a 5pm lesson is optimistic.

Al Rashidiya

West towards the airport, a compact district with no school of its own whose students use the same Mirdif-direction schools. Timetables and traffic patterns here are effectively the same as Al Mizhar's.

Al Qusais

North-west across Damascus Street, home to several of the largest secondary cohorts in Dubai. Afternoon traffic rather than distance decides how long the run takes.

Nad Al Hamar

South-west on quieter roads, the fastest direction out of this corridor. Relevant mainly where a younger sibling attends school there and a household ends up with two arrival times.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

South along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, with secondary provision drawing from across the eastern suburbs and a journey that lengthens considerably at the end of the school day.

Dubai International Academic City

South-east, where several university campuses sit. Worth visiting with a Diploma student before Higher Level choices are finalised, since entry requirements are easier to establish in person than from a prospectus.

International City

South along Emirates Road, a large residential catchment feeding schools across the corridor and adding to the afternoon traffic that shapes every in-home tutoring rate out here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mizhar

Al Mizhar and Mirdif

The nearest cluster, mixing IB continuum, British and American curriculum schools with catchments drawn from the eastern villa communities. Because the schools sit in Mirdif rather than in Al Mizhar itself, almost every secondary student here takes a bus or a car, which is the fact behind both the local in-home rate and the slot a lesson can hold. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

Al Warqa, Al Qusais and the longer runs

The second direction, where the largest cohorts and the longest bus routes sit. Journeys from here can take the better part of an hour each way, which is the single biggest factor in what time a weekday session can realistically start and the reason weekend mornings are popular with families in this cluster. Students we support attend schools in this group.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, the level and the component

Not "IB help" but "Higher Level chemistry, Paper 2 extended responses" or "Standard Level maths, the exploration". The Diploma is six examinations with six failure modes, and the component is what produces a shortlist of two or three rather than twenty.

  2. 02

    Send a marked paper

A photograph of a marked mock or school test shows a specialist the pattern in two minutes: method not shown, assumptions unstated, command term unanswered, or a genuine content gap in one topic rather than general weakness.

  3. 03

Set the slot from the bus

Al Mizhar students on Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Qusais routes arrive home late. Choose the time that works on the worst afternoon with recovery time added, or take a weekend morning if weekday evenings are genuinely finished.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

Forty minutes on a past question at your child's own level. Ask how many questions the tutor expects to cover and whether the mark scheme will be open; one or two questions with the scheme in the student's hands is the answer you want to hear.

  5. 05

    Protect the Internal Assessment early

Whatever the subject, the choice of topic, question or article sets the ceiling, and it happens in DP1. Four sessions on criteria and choosing properly costs a fraction of a rescue block in the final weeks, which cannot change the choice anyway.

  6. 06

Review at six lessons against marks

Against marks on the question types that were going wrong, not against how the sessions felt. If the pattern has not shifted we change the tutor or the approach rather than asking for more time and more money.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The home-tutoring question is answered honestly

In-home tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour and a large part of that is the drive out past Mirdif. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service, and we make the case for online delivery on its merits rather than by omission.

Matched by component, not by subject label

The Diploma is six examinations with six failure modes. We ask which subject, which level and which component before shortlisting anybody, because at Higher Level the right tutor is a component specialist rather than a general IB tutor.

Past-paper work done the slow, effective way

One or two questions a session, the student holding the mark scheme, the loss named specifically and then tested on a second question of the same type. A whole paper read out is cheaper to deliver and worth considerably less to buy.

Every AED figure is attributed

Each rate here was read on the provider's own public page and credited to them, and none is an IB Gram price. Three of the best-ranking pages on these searches publish no price at all, and a number you can go and verify is worth more than one you are asked to trust.

Internal Assessments are coached, never written

A tutor explains criteria, models method on a different example and questions your child's draft. No part of any submission is drafted or edited to completion by us. One page in this search result sells finished Internal Assessments; the student bears that risk alone.

Coverage limits stated before you pay

Higher Level specialists in narrow components, minority languages and late-evening slots run short. We give a realistic match time rather than filling the hour with a generalist, which loses us bookings and saves families terms.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mizhar: your questions answered

Can IB Gram send a home tutor to our villa in Al Mizhar?+

No. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service IB Gram offers only in India. The local market does provide in-home tutoring, at a published AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online, and a substantial part of that difference is the drive out past Mirdif in afternoon traffic. We would rather state the position plainly and make the argument for online delivery than imply something we do not sell.

What does in-home IB tuition cost in this part of Dubai?+

Published figures, each read on the provider's own page: Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages in this market run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions, against roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those two monthly numbers describe different products rather than different prices, so compare the session count and the session length before comparing the totals.

Why would a specialist matter more than a tutor who can come to us?+

Because the Diploma is six separate examinations. The reason a student is losing marks in Higher Level chemistry has nothing in common with why they are losing marks in English A, and at Higher Level the distinctive extension content and the subject's own mark-scheme conventions decide the grade. A general IB tutor can be genuinely competent at Standard Level. For a single weak component at Higher Level, the pool of people who have taught it is spread across the world rather than clustered within driving distance of Al Mizhar.

How many questions should a past-paper session actually cover?+

One or two, with the mark scheme open and in your child's hands. The sequence that moves marks is: attempt the question under something close to timed conditions, mark it against the published scheme, identify precisely where the answer diverged from what was rewarded, name the error out loud, then do a second question of the same type immediately to test the diagnosis. A tutor who expects to cover a whole paper in forty minutes is reading out answers, which is cheaper to deliver and worth much less.

What is the Internal Assessment in my child's subject?+

It depends entirely on the subject, which is why generic advice about it is useless. Mathematics sets an independent exploration. The sciences set an experimental or data-based investigation. Economics sets commentaries on real-world articles. Business Management sets a project on a real organisation. Languages set oral and written tasks. The criteria, lengths and deadlines differ in each case, and in the sciences and mathematics the component commonly carries around a fifth of the final grade. Confirm your child's specifics with the IB coordinator.

When does Internal Assessment work need to start?+

In DP1, because the decisive step is early in every subject. The choice of topic, research question or article sets the mark ceiling, and no amount of careful writing afterwards raises it. Four sessions on the criteria and on choosing properly protects roughly a fifth of the grade at ordinary rates. A rescue block in the final weeks costs more, arrives at exam-year rates, and cannot change the choice that was already made. For travelling households this matters doubly, because an early lost fortnight is survivable.

Will a tutor help my child complete an Internal Assessment?+

Not complete it, no. A tutor may teach the criteria, model the method on a different example, question your child's draft and point out where a claim is not supported by evidence. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of a submission. The test a parent can apply requires no subject knowledge: feedback as questions your child must go and answer is correct, feedback as sentences they could paste in is not. One page in this search result sells finished Internal Assessments outright.

What do Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay actually need?+

Early thinking rather than late effort. The Extended Essay turns on its research question: too broad produces a survey with no argument, too narrow produces a page and a half, and the process reflections are assessed rather than administrative. Theory of Knowledge rewards precision about knowledge claims rather than general opinion, with an essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition. Neither responds to a sprint, which is exactly how most students approach them. Both sit under the same rule: method coached, nothing written for the student.

Should my child really be carrying three Higher Levels?+

Only if all three serve a purpose. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra questions; in most subjects it adds distinctive content or an additional component, and the step is steeper than the timetable suggests. A third Higher Level that no university requirement asks for is the most expensive subject on a Diploma timetable. Check each target course's own entry page, because requirements vary by institution and between admission cycles, then take evidence from marked papers to the school's coordinator if a change is worth considering.

What time can a lesson start for a student on an Al Warqa bus route?+

Realistically 6.30pm or 7pm, or a weekend morning. The collecting routes serving Al Mizhar from Al Warqa and Al Qusais are among the longest in this part of Dubai and can run the better part of an hour, so a student is home late and tired. Set the slot from the worst afternoon with recovery time added, rather than from the earliest hour that has ever worked, because a slot that fails every third week stops existing by the second term. Weekend mornings give a rested student and a full session.

Can the lessons follow us when we travel?+

Yes, with the slot adjusted for the time difference. Households in these villa communities travel often, and an online one-to-one lesson is the format that survives it; no arrangement tied to a villa address can. Send the dates in advance and sessions move rather than disappear. What to avoid is letting a trip become a four-week gap, because in a sequential subject the restart costs more than the sessions missed. A short catch-up block on return usually settles it in a fortnight.

My child's predicted grade is below a university offer. What changes?+

The work moves from content to components. A predicted grade a band low usually reflects two or three repeating errors across past papers rather than a general gap, and one diagnostic session with a marked paper in front of a specialist finds them. From there, two sessions a week to the final series spent almost entirely on timed past-paper work, marked against published criteria, is the shape that moves marks. Tell the school as well, since predicted grades are theirs to revise on evidence rather than on request.

Can you send us a folder of IB papers and schemes to work through?+

No. Those belong to the IB and reproducing or distributing them is not ours to do. We teach against the subject and level your child is registered for and point you to the official route, which is the school or the IB's own site. That is the more useful answer as well as the lawful one, because official material is current while files circulating in parent groups are frequently from a superseded guide and will quietly send a student to question styles that no longer appear.

Is a group class a cheaper way to get IB support out here?+

Cheaper per student, and only worthwhile when the whole group shares the same gap. A group class works for revising a topic a class is collectively weak on. It works poorly for the situation most Diploma families are actually in, where one student is losing marks on a specific component that the others handle fine, because the hour then runs at the group's pace. It also means two journeys into Mirdif or Al Qusais, which for an Al Mizhar family is a real cost in time.

What should we send before booking a first IB lesson from Al Mizhar?+

Four things. The subject and the level. Which component is losing marks, which is what turns a broad request into a narrow brief. A photograph of a marked paper or the most recent report. And the time your child is realistically through the door on a bad traffic afternoon, which sets the slot. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history across every subject; UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 governs what is held and the privacy link explains it.

Buy the component, not the commute

The honest summary for an Al Mizhar family is this. Home tutoring exists locally and costs AED 180 to 500 an hour, with a real part of that paying for a drive out past Mirdif. IB Gram does not sell it at any price in the UAE, and delivers one-to-one Diploma tuition over live video instead. What that trade buys is a tutor matched to the component your child is actually losing marks on, which at Higher Level is rarely somebody within driving distance. Send us the subject, the level, the component and a marked paper, pick a slot that survives a bad bus day, and take the free trial lesson. Ask the tutor how many questions they plan to cover.
