IB Maths Tutor in Al Mizhar

An IB maths tutor in Al Mizhar is being bought at a point on a two-year timeline, and that point decides everything about what the hour should do. DP1 autumn is for course choice and the exploration; DP2 spring is for Paper 1 technique and nothing else. IB Gram teaches Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson first.

  • Work matched to the term, not a single plan sold all year round
  • AA and AI, Higher and Standard Level, taught as four separate courses
  • Live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time, no travel in the rate

IB & IGCSE in Al Mizhar

Diploma maths is a four-term job, and each term has a different task

Most families buy IB maths tutoring as a single product: an hour a week, for as long as it seems necessary. That is not wrong, but it hides the thing that actually determines whether the money works, which is that Diploma mathematics runs on a four-term timeline and each of those terms has a different job. Buying DP2 work in DP1, or DP1 work in DP2, is the commonest way a reasonable spend produces no visible movement.

The first term of DP1 is for two decisions and one habit. The decisions are whether the student is on the right course, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at the right level, and whether the exploration topic is going to have enough mathematics in it. The habit is writing the method down before reaching for the calculator, which is where method marks live and which takes a term of weekly correction to become automatic.

The second and third terms are for content and for the exploration being actually written, by the student, on the school's internal timeline. The fourth term is for papers: Paper 1 technique without a calculator, Paper 2 discipline with one, and at Higher Level the Paper 3 format, which is where students who know the mathematics lose marks to an investigation structure they have never met.

There is one thing this page will not do, and it is worth stating because other pages do it. It will not publish an IB examination or results date. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a date a family plans around has to be right. UAE Diploma schools sit the May session; for the actual dates, ask your school's IB coordinator or check ibo.org directly, and treat any third-party date, including a tutoring page's, as unverified.

The cost argument follows from the same timeline, and it is arithmetic rather than persuasion. A weekly hour held from the first term of DP1 buys seventy or more sessions and sits in the middle of the published monthly bands for most of its life. The same total outlay started in the spring of DP2 buys a third of that, at the top of the bands, at the one point where nothing structural can still be changed. Families are not usually shown that comparison, and it is the most useful number on this page.

Al Mizhar's own contribution to the timeline is the school run. These villa communities sit beyond Mirdif, and collecting bus routes from Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais can run the better part of an hour, which puts students home late and sets the earliest workable slot at around 5.30pm and often later. IB Gram teaches one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, so nobody is driving out here; home visits are a service offered only in India. That removes the half of the scheduling problem a family cannot control and leaves the half they can measure.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The timeline starts before DP1 and does not end at the final paper. These are the stages we cover around Diploma mathematics.

PREAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

The summer before DP1

The cheapest and most under-used point on the whole timeline. A student arriving from IGCSE Extended maths is well drilled in technique and short on proof, radians, function notation and the expectation of justifying a method. A student arriving from standard MYP mathematics is short on algebraic fluency. Six to ten sessions here removes most of the first-term shock.

An Al Mizhar student crossing from a British-curriculum school in Al Warqa or Al Qusais into a Diploma Programme in Mirdif or Al Garhoud is a routine local path, and so is the MYP route through Uptown International School. Either way the summer block is uninterrupted by homework and available at the widest point in the local tutoring year.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

DP1: course, level and the exploration

Two decisions and one habit. The course is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at Higher or Standard Level, and the window to change it is early. The exploration topic choice sets the ceiling on a component worth twenty per cent. The habit is writing method down, which earns method marks and takes a term of weekly correction.

Diploma cohorts in this corridor are modest, which usually means one teacher carries both levels of mathematics. That gives excellent continuity and very little slack: a student who loses the thread during a travel fortnight has limited classroom room to recover it, which is the specific gap weekly one-to-one support fills here.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

DP2: papers, predicted grades and the finish

The content finishes and the work becomes past papers marked against published criteria. Paper 1 without a calculator exposes fluency and responds fastest to drilling. Paper 2 rewards writing a method even when the answer is on screen. At Higher Level, Paper 3 is an extended scaffolded investigation whose format needs rehearsing before the real one.

Predicted grades are issued during DP2 and are the school's to set on evidence, which makes the mock the most consequential assessment of the two years. A predicted grade that blocks a university offer is worth acting on through marked papers and a conversation with the school, rather than through a request.

POSTAges 18+

After the final paper

What the course was for. Engineering, physics and mathematics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level, while many business, social science and design routes accept Applications and Interpretation. A short bridging block before a mathematics-heavy degree reduces the first-year step considerably.

Check requirements directly with each university your child is considering, including UAE institutions, rather than relying on any summary. IB Gram does not perform, guarantee or accelerate Ministry of Education equivalency, and no verified IB points threshold for equivalency is published on ministry sources, so ask moe.gov.ae or your school registrar for that.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths tutoring is bought by course and spent on topics, and the topics that matter change with the term. These are the areas Al Mizhar families ask about.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic and proof-heavy route expected by most engineering and physical science degrees. Standard Level is already demanding; Higher Level adds proof by induction, complex numbers, vectors and a substantially harder calculus load, plus a third paper.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and data, technology assumed throughout, with a heavier statistics weighting. Accepted widely for business, social science and design routes and by fewer engineering ones. The Higher Level course is demanding and the statistics is not a soft option.

Number, algebra and the DP1 fluency base

AA and AI, both levels

Sequences, series, exponentials and logarithms, binomial expansion, and at AA Higher Level proof by induction and complex numbers. This is first-term work and the place where an incoming IGCSE or MYP gap shows itself before anything else does.

Functions and graphing

AA and AI, both levels

Transformations, composite and inverse functions, rational functions and sketching without a calculator. Marks go missing on domain and range and on reading a transformation in the wrong order, both of which are early-term work rather than revision work.

Geometry, trigonometry and radians

AA and AI, both levels

Radian measure, identities and equations, and at AA Higher Level three-dimensional vectors. Students arriving from IGCSE worked in degrees, and the switch to radians costs marks for a whole term unless it is drilled deliberately in the first one.

Statistics and probability

AA and AI, both levels

Distributions, hypothesis testing and regression, weighted far more heavily in Applications and Interpretation. The recurring loss is interpretation: the calculation is right and the sentence explaining it in context is missing, which is a habit built over months.

Calculus

AA and AI, both levels

Differentiation, integration and applications, reaching considerably further at AA Higher Level with integration techniques and differential equations. Mostly second and third-term content, and the part the non-calculator paper exposes most ruthlessly.

The mathematical exploration

All four courses

Independent written mathematics carrying twenty per cent of the grade, assessed on criteria including presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Topic choice is first-term work; writing is second and third-term work. A tutor coaches and writes none of it.

Paper 1 technique, no calculator

AA and AI, both levels

Exact values, surds, algebraic manipulation under time pressure, and showing method so partial credit survives a wrong answer. Fourth-term work and the single highest return per hour available anywhere in the subject.

Paper 2 discipline, with a calculator

AA and AI, both levels

The trap is using the calculator instead of thinking and losing method marks as a result. The fix is a rule practised until automatic: write the substitution or rearrangement down even when the answer is already on the screen.

Paper 3 problem solving

HL only

An extended scaffolded investigation sat only by Higher Level students. The mathematics is familiar and the format is not, so students who have never attempted one lose marks to the structure. Two or three past investigations in the fourth term solves it.

Bridging work either side of the course

Pre-DP and post-DP

Before DP1, closing the IGCSE or MYP gap in proof, radians and symbolic manipulation. After the final paper, reducing the first-year step into a mathematics-heavy degree. Both are defined summer blocks with a visible finish rather than ongoing arrangements.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of Diploma maths support, chosen by where on the four-term timeline a family is standing, all delivered as live one-to-one video lessons in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly from the first term of DP1

One sixty-minute lesson a week alongside the school's own sequence, running across both years. This is the shape the timeline is built for: the course and level decision gets made with evidence, the exploration topic is interrogated while it can still be changed, and the method-writing habit is corrected weekly until it is automatic.

  • Starts while the course and level decision is still open
  • Interrogates the exploration topic before it is fixed
  • Corrects the method-writing habit weekly for a term
  • Same tutor and slot, set from the arrival home

Summer block before DP1

Six to ten sessions in the holiday, aimed at the gap the student is arriving with: proof, radians and function notation from IGCSE Extended, or algebraic fluency from standard MYP mathematics. Nothing competes for the evening, local availability is at its widest, and it finishes before term starts with a visible deliverable.

  • Defined length, one objective, visible finish
  • Addresses the specific incoming gap rather than general revision
  • Uninterrupted by homework or assessment weeks
  • The cheapest point on the whole timeline

Fourth-term paper block

Two or three sessions a week from the mock to the final papers, spent almost entirely on timed past-paper work marked against published criteria. Paper 1 technique first, Paper 2 method discipline second, and at Higher Level two or three Paper 3 investigations so the format holds no surprises.

  • Paper 1 first, because it returns the most per hour
  • Paper 2 method discipline drilled as a rule
  • Higher Level Paper 3 format rehearsed before the real one
  • Weekly review, because there is no time to discover a wrong approach late

01

The four terms, and the job each one has

Diploma mathematics is usually described by content and is better understood by timeline. Four terms separate the start of DP1 from the final papers, and the work that pays is different in each. A family who knows which term they are in can judge a tutor's plan in about a minute.

The first term carries the decisions. Course and level can still be changed, the exploration topic is still open, and the method-writing habit can still be built from scratch rather than retrofitted. It is also the term in which an incoming gap from IGCSE or MYP shows itself, usually as an algebra problem wearing a Diploma costume.

The second and third terms carry the content and the exploration. Calculus arrives, statistics deepens, and the exploration has to be actually written by the student against the school's internal deadlines. This is the stretch where continuity matters most and where a travelling household most often loses a fortnight it cannot see the cost of until later.

The fourth term carries the papers and nothing else. New content at this stage is almost always the wrong purchase; the right one is timed past-paper work with the criteria open and the recurring errors named. The table sets out the whole shape, and the useful way to read it is to find your term and then check whether what you are being sold matches the row.

Running underneath all four terms is one thing that is never finished, which is interpretation. A correct calculation with no sentence saying what it means in the context the question set up loses marks in every term and in every one of the four courses, and it is the loss families notice last because the mathematics looks right. Ten minutes a lesson, every lesson, for two years is what fixes it. That is not a topic to be covered and ticked off; it is the one piece of work that belongs in every row of the table.

02

The exploration, dated backwards from the school's deadline

The exploration carries twenty per cent of the maths grade and is the component most often mistimed. The school sets its own internal deadlines, which is where a family should start, and the useful exercise is to write those dates down and work backwards from them rather than forwards from today.

Topic choice is the decisive step and it belongs in DP1 term one or two. A topic with too little mathematics in it has no route to the higher bands, whatever happens afterwards, and that is not something a tutor can repair in the final fortnight. The conversation a parent can usefully have costs nothing: ask your child what the mathematics in their topic actually is, and listen for whether the answer names techniques or only names an interest.

Writing belongs in terms two and three, in drafts, with the tutor responding to each one through questions. The criteria include presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics, and each of those rewards something specific that a student can be shown in their own draft. Reflection in particular is marked and is routinely treated as decoration.

This is also where travel plans matter most for households in these communities. A fortnight lost in DP1 term one is absorbed; the same fortnight lost three weeks before the school's deadline is not. Plan the trips against the exploration dates rather than the other way round, and send the dates in advance so the tutoring slot moves rather than disappears.

03

Which paper to practise, and when

Paper practice is not one activity. Standard Level students sit two written papers and Higher Level students sit three, and each rewards a different thing, so practising them in the wrong order wastes the fourth term.

Paper 1 first, always. Sat without a calculator, it exposes fluency directly: exact values, surds, clean algebraic manipulation under time pressure, and method shown so partial credit survives a wrong answer. It responds faster to drilling than anything else in the subject, which makes it the right opening move in any paper block however short.

Paper 2 second, and the work there is a rule rather than a topic. With a calculator available, students stop writing method down, and method marks go with it. The fix is to practise writing the substitution or the rearrangement even when the answer is already on the screen, until it happens without thinking. That is behaviour, and behaviour needs weeks of correction rather than an explanation.

Paper 3 is Higher Level only and is the clearest case of a format problem rather than a content problem. It is an extended scaffolded investigation, and a student meeting that structure for the first time in the examination loses marks to the shape of it. Two or three past investigations, attempted properly and reviewed, removes most of that. Confirm current component structures and weightings with your school's IB coordinator before planning around them.

Two full timed papers belong in the last six weeks, and not more than two. The purpose of a full paper is not revision; it is data about pace and triage, which is why it has to be sat under something close to real conditions and then reviewed for where the time went rather than only for the mark. A student who discovers they spend eleven minutes on a six-mark question has learned something a hundred individual questions would not have told them, and two such papers is enough to learn it.

The May session, and why no date appears on this page

  • UAE Diploma schools sit the May session; this page publishes no specific IB date
  • ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no IB date here has been verified at source
  • Get the dates from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org, and write them down
  • Cambridge and Pearson dates are sourced and are not interchangeable with IB dates

UAE Diploma schools sit the May session. That is the useful, stable thing to say, and it is as far as this page will go on dates, for a reason worth explaining.

The IB's own website returns an error to automated checking, which means no IB examination or results date in this project has been verified against the IB itself. Secondary sources exist and they converge, but converging secondary sources are not a source for a date a family acts on. A parent who books a flight or plans a revision block around a date taken from a tutoring page has been given something nobody checked.

So the instruction here is specific. Get your session dates from your school's IB coordinator, who holds the school's own examination timetable, or from ibo.org directly. Write them down, and then plan the fourth term backwards from the first paper rather than forwards from the mock. If any tutoring provider, including one quoting this page, gives you an IB date, ask where it came from.

For comparison, dates from the other boards are sourced and can be used with their own framing. Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge runs its IGCSE and International A Level examinations in June and November series and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong zone's timetable. Those are useful for a sibling on a British-curriculum route, and they are not IB dates.

05

The course and level decision, and the window on it

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard: four courses, one decision, and a window that closes earlier than most families realise. It is the highest-leverage calendar item on this page because it is the only one that cannot be fixed later by working harder.

The two courses are not easy and hard versions of each other. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-heavy and is commonly expected by engineering, physics and mathematics degrees. Applications and Interpretation is a modelling and data course with a heavier statistics load, accepted widely for business, social science and design routes and by fewer engineering ones. A student who picks on comfort in DP1 and discovers in DP2 that a target degree wants the other one has a problem no amount of tutoring solves cheaply.

Requirements vary by university and change between admission cycles, so the only reliable method is reading the specific entry page for each specific course. Do that in DP1 term one, with two or three target courses, and the decision becomes evidence-based rather than a guess. Then take marked papers to the school's coordinator if a change looks necessary, because the decision is the school's to make and evidence is what moves it.

A tutor's useful contribution here is diagnostic rather than advisory. Six weeks of marked work shows whether a struggling Higher Level student has a content gap that will close or a genuine mismatch with the level, and that distinction is worth more to the conversation than anybody's opinion about how hard the course is.

What the two years cost, term by term

Families think about an hourly rate and pay a two-year bill, so the honest way to present the money is across the timeline. Every figure below was read on the provider's own public page and is attributed; none is an IB Gram rate.

The published Dubai bands are these. EdFlik advertises budget online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya's panel starting lower. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IB specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500, the premium inside it being a drive out past Mirdif through afternoon traffic.

Across the timeline the shape of the spend matters more than the band. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour tutoring run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or above for exam-year specialist support. A weekly hour held from DP1 term one sits in the middle band for most of its life and rises only in the final term; an arrangement started in DP2 sits in the exam-year band for its whole life, and is shorter.

That is the actual argument for acting early, and it is arithmetic rather than persuasion. The same total outlay, spread from DP1 term one, buys more sessions at a lower monthly rate and buys them at the points on the timeline where they change something. Started in DP2 spring, it buys fewer sessions at a higher rate at the only point where nothing structural can still be changed.

Mocks, predicted grades and the conversation they trigger

  • The mock counts for nothing directly and sets the predicted grade indirectly
  • Support in the weakest paper should be running before the mock, not after it
  • A low predicted grade is answered with marked evidence, not with a request
  • No tutor can promise a grade; repeating errors can be named and removed

The mock is the most consequential assessment of the two years, and not because it counts. It counts for nothing directly. It matters because it is the evidence a school uses when setting a predicted grade, and a predicted grade is what a university offer is made against.

That gives the mock a specific place on the timeline. Support in the weakest paper should already be running before it, not arranged after it. A family who starts looking for a tutor in the fortnight after mocks has arrived at the busiest point in the local market with the least time, which is the worst combination available.

If a predicted grade comes back below a university requirement, the useful response is evidence rather than argument. A predicted grade a band low usually reflects two or three repeating errors across past papers rather than a general gap, and one diagnostic session with a marked paper identifies them. From there, two sessions a week to the papers, spent almost entirely on timed work marked against published criteria, is the shape that moves marks. Then show the school the improved marked work, because predicted grades are theirs to revise on evidence.

Nobody can promise a grade, a band of improvement or a specific point total, and anybody who does is telling you about themselves. What is reliable is that repeating errors can be named and drilled out, and that a student who stops losing four marks a paper to invisible method is a different candidate by the final series.

08

Academic honesty on the exploration, at every point in the year

  • The boundary is identical in DP1 term one and three days before a deadline
  • Feedback arrives as questions your child answers, never as text to paste
  • No IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes are supplied by us
  • An offer to produce assessed work should end the conversation

The exploration is where the UAE tutoring market behaves worst, and the pressure peaks in the weeks before a school deadline, which is exactly why this belongs on a page about timing.

The boundary does not move. A tutor may explain the criteria, model method on a different example, teach technique on comparable problems, ask questions about the student's draft and point out where the mathematics does not support a claim. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of the exploration, including the reflection.

The test a parent can apply needs no mathematics. Ask to see the feedback. If it reads as sentences your child could paste into the document, the line has been crossed. If it reads as questions they have to go and answer, it has not. That test works in DP1 term one and it works three days before the deadline.

One page in the researched competitor set sells completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price. That is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and the student carries the finding through an appeal, a university application and sometimes a whole qualification, while the seller carries nothing. We also do not reproduce or supply IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes; those belong to the IB and reach a student properly through the school.

Parents occasionally worry that holding this line disadvantages their child against classmates who are not holding it. It might, briefly, on one document, and the trade is still not close. A malpractice finding follows a student through an appeal, a university application and sometimes the whole qualification, and it is not something a fee refund repairs. Tell your child the line in DP1 term one, tell the tutor the line at the first lesson, and ask to see the feedback rather than only the finished draft. All three take minutes and none of them has to be repeated.

09

Starting, and what we will say about the term you are in

Send four things: the course and level, which term the school is in, a photograph of a marked paper, and the time your child is realistically through the door on a bad traffic afternoon. The second item is what makes the recommendation specific rather than generic.

The free trial lesson runs about forty minutes on a past question from your child's own course, with your child working and the tutor teaching. Afterwards you receive a written read on whether the difficulty is content, algebra or technique, and what the term you are in can realistically do about it. Nothing is owed if you stop there.

We will sometimes say that the term you are in does not support what you want. A family in DP2 spring asking for the exploration to be improved is asking for something that was decided in DP1, and saying so is more useful than taking the booking. A family in DP1 term one asking for intensive paper work is being offered the wrong thing too, and we would rather sell the weekly slot that actually matters.

What we ask for is limited to what matching needs: course, level, term, school if you want its sequence followed, and a contact for scheduling. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 governs the data we hold, and the privacy link on this page sets out what is kept and how to have it removed.

Where we tutor

Al Mizhar, the commute, and what it does to a maths slot

The timeline on this page assumes a lesson actually happens each week, and in these villa communities that depends on the school run. This is the geography involved.

Mirdif

The immediate neighbour west and where most Al Mizhar Diploma students attend school. The shortest run in the cluster, which makes an earlier slot viable for families whose child is at a Mirdif school.

Al Khawaneej

Further east, with the longest journeys here. For a Diploma maths student that usually means a 6.30pm weekday slot or a weekend morning, and calculus is a poor subject to attempt at the end of a long day.

Al Warqa

South-west, with the largest cohorts and long collecting routes. Students arrive home late, and the practical answer for many Al Mizhar households with a child at an Al Warqa school is a weekend morning.

Al Rashidiya

West towards the airport, compact with no school of its own, using the same Mirdif-direction schools. Arrival times and therefore workable maths slots are effectively identical to Al Mizhar's.

Al Qusais

North-west across Damascus Street, where afternoon traffic rather than distance sets the arrival time. A twenty-minute journey regularly doubles between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Nad Al Hamar

South-west on quieter roads, the fastest direction out of the corridor. Often where a younger sibling attends school, leaving a household managing two different arrival times in one evening.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

South along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, with secondary provision drawing from across the eastern suburbs and journeys that lengthen at the end of the school day.

Dubai International Academic City

South-east, where several university campuses sit. Worth visiting with a DP1 student while the course and level decision is still open, because mathematics requirements are easier to establish in person.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mizhar

Diploma provision for Al Mizhar families

The schools an Al Mizhar student is most likely to sit IB Mathematics at, reached west into Mirdif or north towards Al Garhoud. Cohorts are modest, so one teacher commonly carries both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, giving continuity and leaving little room to recover a lost fortnight. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

  • Al Mizhar American Academy
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School
  • Deira International School

Schools whose students cross into Diploma mathematics

Where the IGCSE and MYP students who later take Diploma maths are currently enrolled, across Al Warqa, Al Qusais and Mirdif. The crossing is where proof, radians and symbolic manipulation have to be built, and the summer before DP1 is when that is cheapest. Students we support attend schools in this group.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, the level and the term

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, and which of the four terms the school is in. Those three together decide the shortlist and the shape of the work, and the term is the one families leave out.

  2. 02

Write down the school's own deadlines

The exploration deadline and the mock dates come from the school, and the examination dates come from the IB coordinator or ibo.org. Write them down once; every decision on this page is made by counting backwards from them.

  3. 03

    Send a marked paper

A photograph of a marked test or mock shows a specialist the pattern in two minutes: method not shown, radians handled in degrees, interpretation sentences missing, or a genuine content gap in one topic.

  4. 04

    Interrogate the exploration topic early

In DP1, ask your child what the mathematics in their topic actually is and listen for whether the answer names techniques. A topic too thin to reach the higher bands cannot be rescued by careful writing in the final fortnight.

  5. 05

Set a slot the commute can hold

Al Mizhar students on Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais routes arrive home late, so 5.30pm is the earliest realistic weekday slot and 6.30pm or a weekend morning is better for the longer routes.

  6. 06

Take the free trial, then review on the term's cycle

Forty minutes on a past question from the right course. Review at six lessons in a weekly DP1 arrangement and weekly in a fourth-term paper block, because the time available to correct a wrong approach differs completely.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The work is matched to the term

DP1 term one is for course choice, level and the exploration topic. The fourth term is for Paper 1 technique and timed papers. Selling the same hour all year round is how a reasonable spend produces no visible movement, and we will say which term supports what you are asking for.

No invented IB dates

UAE Diploma schools sit the May session, and that is as far as this page goes. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB date here has been verified at source. Get yours from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org, and ask any provider quoting a date where it came from.

The exploration is timed, not rescued

Topic choice is DP1 work and sets the ceiling on twenty per cent of the grade. We interrogate the topic while it can still change, respond to drafts with questions, and write no part of any submission, including the reflection.

The cost argument is arithmetic

A weekly hour from DP1 term one sits in the mid-tier monthly band for most of its life and buys seventy or more sessions. The same outlay started in DP2 spring sits in the exam-year band and buys fewer, at the only point where nothing structural can still change.

Every AED figure is attributed

Each rate here was read on the provider's own public page and credited to them, and none is an IB Gram price. Three of the best-ranking pages on these searches publish no price at all, and a checkable number is worth more than a reassurance.

No grade promises, ever

Nobody can promise a grade, a band of improvement or a point total. What is reliable is that repeating errors can be named and drilled out, which is a different and more honest claim, and it is the one our written notes are designed to let you check.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mizhar: your questions answered

When in the Diploma should we start maths tutoring?+

The first term of DP1, or the summer before it. That is the only window in which the decisions that matter are still open: whether the student is on the right course and level, whether the exploration topic has enough mathematics in it, and whether the habit of writing method down gets built from scratch rather than retrofitted. A weekly hour started then sits in the mid-tier monthly band for most of its life and buys seventy or more sessions. Started in DP2 spring, the same money buys fewer sessions at a higher rate.

What exactly should the first term of DP1 be spent on?+

Two decisions and one habit. The decisions are course and level, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation at Higher or Standard, checked against the published entry requirements for two or three target university courses rather than against how DP1 feels. And the exploration topic, interrogated for whether it contains real mathematical techniques. The habit is writing the substitution or rearrangement down before reaching for a calculator, because method marks live there and it takes a term of weekly correction to become automatic.

Which maths paper should be practised first in the final term?+

Paper 1, without exception. Sat without a calculator, it exposes fluency directly through exact values, surds and algebraic manipulation under time pressure, and it responds faster to drilling than anything else in the subject. Paper 2 comes second and the work there is a rule rather than a topic: write the method even when the answer is on the screen. At Higher Level, Paper 3 comes third and needs two or three past investigations so the extended format holds no surprises in the examination.

This page names the May session but gives no dates. Why not?+

Because we have not been able to verify them at source. The IB's own website returns an error to automated checking, so no IB examination or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Secondary sources converge, and converging secondary sources are not good enough for a date a family plans a revision block or a flight around. UAE Diploma schools sit the May session; get the specific dates from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org, and ask any provider quoting a date where theirs came from.

How late can we change from Applications and Interpretation to Analysis and Approaches?+

Realistically DP1 term one, and it gets difficult quickly after that. The two are not easy and hard versions of each other: AA is algebraic and proof-heavy and is commonly expected by engineering, physics and mathematics degrees, while AI is a modelling and data course with heavier statistics, accepted widely elsewhere. The decision belongs to the school, and what moves it is evidence rather than preference, so take marked papers to the coordinator. Check the published entry requirements for specific target courses first.

When does the exploration have to start?+

The criteria conversation in DP1 term one and the topic choice in term one or two, because the topic sets the ceiling on a component worth twenty per cent and careful writing afterwards cannot raise it. Writing happens in terms two and three against the school's own internal deadlines, in drafts, with a tutor responding through questions. The reflection is assessed rather than decorative and is routinely treated as paperwork. Ask your school for its internal dates and work backwards from them rather than forwards from today.

We are travelling for three weeks. When is the worst time for that?+

The three weeks before the school's exploration deadline, and the final six weeks before the papers. A fortnight lost in DP1 term one is absorbed because the content is still being taught and there is room to catch up; the same fortnight lost close to a deadline is not recoverable. Plan trips against the school's own dates rather than the other way round, and send us the dates in advance so the slot moves rather than vanishes. Online lessons follow a student to another time zone with the slot adjusted.

My child's predicted maths grade is below a university requirement. What is the sequence?+

Diagnose, drill, then show the school. A predicted grade a band low usually reflects two or three repeating errors across past papers rather than a general gap, and one session with a marked paper in front of a specialist identifies them. From there, two sessions a week to the final papers spent almost entirely on timed work marked against published criteria is the shape that moves marks. Then take the improved marked work back to the school, because predicted grades are theirs to revise on evidence rather than on request.

Is it worth buying maths tutoring in the summer before DP1?+

It is the cheapest and most under-used point on the entire timeline. Six to ten sessions, uninterrupted by homework or assessment weeks, aimed at exactly what the student is arriving with: proof, radians, function notation and the habit of justifying a method if they come from IGCSE Extended, or algebraic fluency if they come from standard MYP mathematics. Local availability is also at its widest in the summer, so the choice of tutor is real rather than whoever is still free after mocks.

What does a weekly maths arrangement cost across the two years?+

Published monthly estimates from Bestimate's Dubai table run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or above for exam-year specialist support, per subject. A weekly hour held from DP1 term one sits in the middle band for most of its life and rises only in the final term. Hourly, the market runs from AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik up to AED 650 at BartyED, with TutorChase at AED 270. None of those is an IB Gram price.

Should we switch to two sessions a week, and when?+

In DP2, and only with a stated reason. The pattern that works is one weekly session held across both years, with a second added for a defined block when there is something specific to do: the exploration in DP1, Paper 3 format work before the final papers, or recovery after a predicted grade that blocks an offer. Two sessions a week sustained across the whole Diploma is a large commitment, and households that start there usually cut back by the second term, often at the worst possible moment.

Does Paper 3 really need separate preparation?+

Yes, and it is the clearest format problem in the subject. Paper 3 is sat only by Higher Level students and is an extended scaffolded investigation, so the mathematics is familiar while the structure is not. A student meeting it for the first time in the examination loses marks to the shape of the paper rather than to the content, which is an avoidable and expensive way to lose them. Two or three past investigations attempted properly in the fourth term removes most of that. Confirm the current structure with your IB coordinator.

Can a tutor write part of the exploration if the deadline is close?+

No, and the date changes nothing. A tutor may explain the criteria, model method on a different example, teach technique on comparable problems, question your child's draft and point out where the mathematics does not support a claim. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of it, including the reflection. One page in this search result sells completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price, which is an IB malpractice trigger, and the student carries it while the seller carries nothing.

What time can a maths lesson run from Al Mizhar in term time?+

5.30pm at the earliest for a child at a Mirdif school, and 6.30pm or a weekend morning for one on an Al Warqa, Al Qusais or Al Khawaneej route. Those collecting routes can take the better part of an hour, and calculus attempted by a student who walked in twenty minutes ago produces noticeably less than the same hour after food and a break. Set the slot from the worst afternoon rather than the best, because across four terms a slot that fails monthly loses around thirty sessions.

What should we send before the first maths lesson?+

Four things. The course and the level. Which of the four terms the school is in, which is what makes the recommendation specific. A photograph of a marked test or mock. And the time your child is realistically through the door on a bad traffic afternoon. We will sometimes tell you that the term you are in does not support what you are asking for, which is more useful than taking the booking. The privacy link explains what is held under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021.

Find your term, then buy for it

Diploma mathematics runs over four terms and each one has a different job, so the first useful question is not which tutor but where on that timeline your child is standing. In DP1 term one you can still change the course, the level and the exploration topic, and build the method-writing habit from scratch. In the fourth term you can convert understanding into marks through Paper 1 fluency and Paper 2 discipline, and nothing structural is still open. Write down the school's deadlines and the session dates from your IB coordinator, send us the course, the level, the term and a marked paper, and take the free trial lesson.
