IB MYP Spanish Home Tutor in Dubai

Parents searching for an IB MYP Spanish home tutor in Dubai are usually after one thing: proof that something is changing. A weekly visitor in the living room is a proxy for that proof, not the proof itself. IB Gram delivers these lessons as one-to-one online tuition across Dubai, and attaches the evidence to it — one piece of your child's own work marked against a named MYP criterion every week, and a recorded speaking sample you can replay from the trial lesson onwards. Read the week-by-week table on this page before you book anyone.

  • One marked piece of student work returned every week, criterion named
  • Speaking samples recorded from the trial lesson so you can compare
  • Twelve-week evidence log published on this page before you book
  • No UAE home visits: lessons run online one-to-one over live video

Why families ask for a home tutor, and what they are really asking for

The phrase parents type is 'home tutor'. The thing they want is visibility. A tutor in the room feels verifiable in a way a grade on a report card three months from now does not: you can hear the lesson from the kitchen, you can see the books open, you know the hour happened. That instinct is sound. The problem is that presence is weak evidence. An hour of friendly conversation in Spanish looks and sounds identical to an hour that moves a Criterion C mark, and from the kitchen you cannot tell which one you paid for.

Marked work can tell you. MYP Language Acquisition is scored on four criteria of eight marks each, and every assessed task in the subject carries one or two of them. A tutor working properly can hand you, each week, a piece of your child's own writing or a recording of their own speaking, marked against a named criterion, with strand-level comments. Four weeks of that is a readable record. Three months of 'she's doing much better' is not. The difference is not effort or warmth; it is whether anyone wrote anything down.

This is where the in-home model starts to cost you rather than reassure you. A Dubai in-home rate of AED 180 to 500 an hour, which is what the market charges, is partly a mileage charge. The tutor who can reach Dubai Marina or Al Sufouh by half past five on a Tuesday is selected by geography first and by MYP Spanish expertise second. For a subject as thinly staffed as Language Acquisition, that ordering is the whole problem: there are far more Spanish speakers within a twenty-minute drive of any Dubai community than there are tutors who can tell you what separates a five from a seven on Criterion D.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school run. What that buys is a wider pool and a better record. Written work is annotated live on a shared screen and sent back afterwards. Speaking tasks are recorded, replayed and marked while the student listens, which is something neither a living room nor a classroom of twenty-two usually manages.

The rest of this page is built around that record. There is a table of what the Dubai market charges and how much of the hour is travel. There is a twelve-week evidence log showing exactly which task lands in which week and what a parent can check. There is a section on reading a Dubai MYP report card against a tutor's marking, and one on what to do when twelve weeks of evidence shows no movement, because that happens and the honest answer is not another term of the same thing.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the three school-age IB programmes. The evidence question changes shape in each of them, because what gets written down about a student changes shape too.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

PYP reporting is descriptive, which makes progress hard to track numerically and easy to track in artefacts. For an additional language the readable evidence is a short recording every few weeks and a page of the child's own writing. Three such pairs across a term show more than any comment bank entry, and they cost nothing to keep.

Dubai PYP schools vary widely in how much additional-language time they timetable, and many offer French and Arabic without Spanish. Families aiming at Spanish in MYP 1 should ask in Year 5 what the language offer will be, then decide whether a short run of groundwork is worth it rather than discovering a Phase 1 start at eleven.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11, labelled MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

The programme this page is about. Criterion-referenced marking means the evidence is already structured for you: four criteria, eight marks each, a named strand behind every mark. A tutor who returns work in that format produces a record that lines up with the school's own, which is what makes comparison possible rather than aspirational.

Dubai MYP cohorts turn over heavily, and a student who joined in MYP 3 often has no marking history at the school at all. In those cases the tutor's own first four marked tasks become the baseline, which is a reason to start the record early rather than wait for a first report card in November.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Criteria give way to assessment components with published weightings, and the internal assessment in Spanish becomes an individual oral. Evidence becomes predicted-grade shaped: timed papers marked to component boundaries, and recorded orals. The habit of keeping marked work from MYP pays off here, because a DP1 predicted grade conversation goes better with a folder than with a memory.

Dubai schools set option blocks for DP1 in the spring of MYP 5, so a student's MYP Spanish record is the document that argues for or against a Spanish B place. Phase evidence beats enthusiasm in that meeting, and it has to exist before the meeting rather than be assembled after it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Language Acquisition strands and neighbouring courses Dubai families ask us for, described by what the marked evidence looks like in each rather than by syllabus content.

MYP Spanish listening, Criterion A

Phases 1-6

Evidence is a transcript-free score on an unseen audio task, repeated monthly on comparable material. Criterion A moves faster than the other three because it responds to listening volume, so a month-on-month comparison on similar-length audio is the clearest early sign that a weekly session is doing anything.

MYP Spanish reading, Criterion B

Phases 1-6

Evidence is a marked unseen text task with the inference questions circled. The characteristic failure is a blank where the answer was implied rather than stated, and it shows up identically in September and in March unless somebody names it. Keep the first and fourth attempts; the gap is visible without reading Spanish.

MYP Spanish response tasks, Criterion C

Phases 2-6

Evidence is the plan as well as the response. A tutor working on Criterion C should be handing back a three-idea planning frame alongside the written answer, because the frame is where the mark is won or lost. Parents can read the frame even without Spanish and see whether format and audience were addressed.

MYP Spanish production, Criterion D

Phases 1-6

Evidence is two pieces of writing side by side with range marked rather than errors marked. Criterion D rewards variety of structure and register, which is why a careful student who has learned to write safely stalls. The marking should show what was attempted, not only what was wrong.

MYP Spanish speaking and interaction

Phases 1-6

Evidence is audio. A ninety-second recorded interaction from the trial lesson, repeated every four to six weeks, is the single most persuasive record available in this subject, and it is the one thing an in-home hour almost never produces. Families keep the files; we do not need them afterwards.

MYP Arabic as an additional language

Phases 1-4

Required for non-Arab students in Dubai private schools and marked on the same four criteria as Spanish. Because the criteria are identical, marked Spanish work doubles as diagnostic information about Arabic. Families running both subjects often find one tutor's criterion work lifts the other grade without extra Arabic lessons.

MYP French

Phases 1-5

Dubai's other common MYP additional language, and the usual fallback when a Spanish set does not fill. The evidence format is the same because the criteria are the same, which makes a mid-year language switch less disruptive than it sounds if the record has been kept properly.

DP Spanish ab initio

SL

Evidence becomes component-shaped: timed writing to a prescribed theme and a recorded individual oral on a visual stimulus. For a student arriving from Phase 1 or 2 this is the realistic route, and the MYP recordings are what justify the choice to a DP coordinator.

DP Spanish B

SL and HL

Five prescribed themes, timed text-type writing and an individual oral. The MYP-to-DP gap shows up in the record as strong Criterion D work that collapses under time pressure. Timed tasks from MYP 5 onwards are what close it, and they also produce the evidence a predicted grade rests on.

MYP Personal Project

MYP 5

The evidence here belongs entirely to the student: a process journal and a report they write themselves. A tutor's contribution is questions, deadlines and feedback on what has already been produced. We put that limit in writing at the start, because an academic-honesty finding under IB rules follows the student rather than the tutor.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered online one-to-one over live video. They differ in what evidence they produce, which is the thing worth choosing on.

Weekly session with marked work between lessons

Sixty minutes a week, plus one piece of the student's own work marked against a named criterion and returned before the next session. Over a term that produces twelve dated, marked artefacts. This is the format that answers the question behind the search: not whether the hour happened, but whether anything moved.

  • Sixty minutes weekly on Gulf Standard Time
  • One marked artefact returned per week, criterion named
  • Strand-level comments in the school's own vocabulary
  • A recorded speaking sample every four to six weeks

Fixed twelve-week evidence block

The log published on this page, run as a bounded commitment: twelve weeks, twelve marked tasks, three recordings, a baseline and an endpoint. At week twelve there is a decision rather than a renewal. Families who have been burned by open-ended arrangements tend to choose this one, and we prefer it too.

  • Twelve weeks, agreed in advance, with a dated plan
  • Baseline recording in week one, comparison in weeks six and twelve
  • A written review at week six that can end the block
  • No automatic rollover at the end

Portfolio and assessment-week intensive

Two sessions a week for four to six weeks, pinned to a school's internal assessment window or an MYP eAssessment portfolio deadline. Work is on task conditions and planning rather than new content. The evidence produced is the portfolio work itself, improved under the conditions it will be judged in.

  • Two sessions a week, fixed end date
  • Tasks run under the school's own conditions and timings
  • Planning frames for each response format
  • Stops on the deadline rather than rolling on

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a home tutor costs in Dubai, and how much of that hour is the drive

Start with the number, because every other decision hangs off it. Rates read across Dubai providers in October 2026 put budget online tutoring at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300, an in-home one-to-one visit at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, and an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more. One premium provider publishes AED 650. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

The gap between the online band and the in-home band is not a quality premium. It is the car. A tutor crossing from Al Barsha to Dubai Marina at five in the afternoon spends forty to fifty minutes each way in term time, and that time is inside the rate whether it is itemised or not. On a two-hour in-home booking the travel is diluted; on a single sixty-minute session it can be more than half of what you pay for. Palm Jumeirah, Dubai South and the outer Dubailand communities sit at the top of every in-home band for this reason and no other.

The second cost is invisible and larger. An in-home tutor is drawn from whoever will make that drive, which for MYP Spanish in Dubai is a short list. You are choosing from Spanish speakers in a radius rather than from Language Acquisition specialists in a market. The hour may be perfectly pleasant and still not touch the criterion that is holding the grade, because the person teaching it has never been shown the phase descriptors.

For context on the household budget: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package the emirate valued at AED 1.5 billion. School costs are flat. Tutoring is the discretionary line, which is exactly why it is worth asking what a rate buys in marked work rather than in contact minutes. All figures in the table are other providers' published rates read in October 2026, not IB Gram's; our own rate is quoted after the free trial lesson.

02

The evidence file: what you should be able to read after four weeks

  • A ninety-second baseline recording from the trial lesson
  • Four marked pieces of the student's own work, criterion named
  • A written note of the focus criterion and the reason for it
  • At least one planning frame behind a written response
  • One sentence on what has not moved yet

Four weeks is long enough to judge a tutoring arrangement and short enough that stopping costs little. By the end of it you should be holding five things, none of which requires you to speak Spanish. A baseline recording of your child speaking Spanish for ninety seconds, made in the trial lesson. Four pieces of their own work, each marked against a named criterion with strand-level comments. A written note of which criterion was chosen as the focus and why. At least one planning frame showing how a response was built before it was written. And a sentence from the tutor about what has not moved.

That last item is the one that separates a record from a sales document. Every honest four-week report has something in it that has not improved, because four weeks is not long enough to fix four criteria. A tutor who tells you everything is going well has either not been marking or is not telling you what the marking says. Ask which criterion was the focus and what the first and fourth marks on it were. Two numbers and a date are a harder thing to fudge than a paragraph of encouragement.

Compare the tutor's marking with the school's. Dubai MYP report cards give four separate numbers for Spanish, one per criterion. If the tutor says Criterion C has moved from four to six and the school's next report still shows four, that is a conversation worth having with both. Sometimes the tutor is marking generously. Sometimes the school assessed a different task type. Either way you have found something out, which you cannot do without two sets of numbers.

Keep the files. Parents consistently underestimate how useful a September recording is in March, and how persuasive a folder of marked work is in a DP option-block meeting where a Spanish B place is being argued for. The record costs nothing to keep and it is the only part of the arrangement that remains yours after the lessons stop.

03

Twelve weeks of MYP Spanish, week by week, with the evidence each one leaves behind

Below is the actual shape of a twelve-week block for an MYP 4 student placed at Phase 3 or 4 whose Criterion C has been flat. It is not a syllabus; it is a schedule of evidence. The point of publishing it is that you can hold any tutor, including ours, against it, and that you can tell in week three whether the arrangement is producing a record or just producing hours.

The first three weeks deliberately produce no visible grade movement. Weeks one and two are baseline and task-reading, which feel slow and are the reason the rest works. A parent who expects improvement by week two will cancel a block that was about to deliver. A parent who expects a baseline, a planning frame and a first marked response by week three has the right expectation and can hold the tutor to it.

Weeks four to eight are where the marks move, and the evidence is comparative rather than absolute: the same task type, attempted twice, five weeks apart, both marked. Weeks nine to twelve shift to timed conditions, because a student who can plan a Criterion C response in unlimited time and not in thirty-five minutes has half the skill. The final week produces a second recording and a written review, which is the document the next decision gets made from.

Adjust the subject matter to whatever your child's school is teaching; the tutor should be asking for the unit plan and the internal assessment calendar in week one precisely so this table can be mapped onto the school's own sequence rather than run alongside it. What should not change is the evidence column. If a block produces nothing in that column for three consecutive weeks, something has gone wrong with the arrangement and not with your child.

Reading a Dubai MYP report card against a tutor's marking

A Dubai MYP report card for Spanish usually shows four numbers out of eight and a one-to-seven grade. Parents new to the programme read the one-to-seven and ignore the four, which is the wrong way round. The four are the diagnosis; the one-to-seven is a conversion applied by the school using its own grade boundaries. That last point surprises people: the boundaries are not fixed across the IB, so a total of nineteen out of thirty-two at one Dubai school and the same nineteen at another can land on different grades.

Which means two things in practice. Comparing your child's grade with a friend's at a different school in the same community tells you very little. And asking your MYP coordinator for the boundary table is a reasonable, routine request that most schools will meet. With the boundaries in hand, the four criterion marks become usable: you can see exactly how many marks sit between the current grade and the next one, and which criterion is the cheapest place to find them.

Set the tutor's marking next to it. The pattern of agreement matters more than the absolute numbers. If both sets of marks are low on the same criterion, you have a confirmed target. If the tutor is consistently two marks above the school, the tutor is marking to a different standard and you should ask to see the strand language behind a mark. If the school is low on a criterion the tutor never assesses, the tutor is working on the wrong thing and the session plan needs changing this week, not next term.

One honest caveat about criterion marks on a report card: they are often a best-fit judgement across several tasks rather than a single score, and different teachers weight recency differently. Treat the four numbers as a direction rather than a measurement. The direction across three reporting cycles, read alongside twelve weeks of dated marked work, is about as much certainty as this subject offers anyone.

05

Recorded speaking: the one piece of evidence a living room rarely produces

  • Ninety seconds, recorded in the trial lesson, is the baseline
  • Repeat at week six and week twelve on comparable material
  • Replay and mark against the Criterion D strands while the student listens
  • Keep the files; they belong in the folder, not on our server
  • Headphones and a stable connection, or the evidence is unusable

Ask any parent how they would know their child's spoken Spanish had improved and you get the same answer: they would hear it. Almost nobody does, because the moments when a child speaks Spanish are in a classroom or in a lesson, and neither keeps a copy. The result is that spoken progress, which is half of Criterion C and most of Criterion D, is the part of this subject families have the least information about and the most anxiety over.

Recording fixes it cheaply. A ninety-second task in the trial lesson, repeated at week six and week twelve, on comparable material, produces three files that answer the question directly. You do not need Spanish to hear the difference between hesitant single clauses and connected speech with recovery when a word goes missing. That is the honest comparison, and it is more informative than any mark out of eight because it bypasses the question of whether the marking was generous.

It is also better practice than the live version. A recording can be replayed and marked against the Criterion D strands while the student listens, which almost never happens in a classroom of twenty-two or in an in-home hour running to a schedule. Students hear their own fillers, their own tense slips and their own recovery strategies, and in our experience that single exercise does more for spoken accuracy than a term of correction in the moment.

Two practical notes for Dubai families. Use headphones and a decent connection, because a poor line ruins a listening task and makes a recording useless as evidence. And keep the files yourself rather than relying on us to hold them, both because they are your child's and because they belong in the folder you take to a DP option-block meeting. We ask only for what we need to mark the task, and we say so in plain terms when any personal data about a student is collected, in line with the UAE's personal data protection law.

06

When twelve weeks of evidence shows nothing moving

It happens, and the way a provider handles it tells you more than any claim on a website. There are four common explanations and they call for different responses, which is why the question 'what has not moved?' belongs in every six-week review rather than only in a cancellation email.

The first is that the wrong criterion was chosen. A student whose real problem is Criterion A listening stamina will not improve if three months went on Criterion C planning, and the marked record makes that visible in about ten minutes. The second is phase mismatch: a child sitting in a Phase 4 set while working at Phase 2 produces accurate, thin work and a stable five, and no amount of tutoring inside the wrong phase changes that. The fix there is a conversation with the MYP coordinator, armed with the placement note, not more lessons.

The third is the match itself. Some pairings do not work, and in a language subject where the student has to be willing to be wrong out loud, that matters more than in maths. Asking for a different tutor is a normal request and not a complaint; we would rather rematch at week six than have a family quietly stop in week fourteen. The fourth is that nothing is wrong and the expectation was off: a grade moving from five to six in MYP Spanish typically takes two reporting cycles, not one, and a tutor who promises faster than that is selling something.

There is also the case where we should not have taken the work. MYP Spanish is a thin pool, and if we cannot staff a request with someone who knows the phase descriptors, saying so at the start is cheaper for everyone than a term of general conversation practice. No tutor, however experienced, can promise a particular grade, and nobody in this market should be offering one. What can be promised is a record you can read and a decision point you can act on.

07

Who is allowed to tutor privately in Dubai, and how a parent checks

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and u.ae states plainly that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you by anybody, including us.

Eligibility is broader than most parents expect. The published list includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own service, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing', available through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time and no fee listed.

Two limits matter when you are hiring. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct pointing the same way. If a provider offers you your child's own class teacher privately, that is a problem rather than a perk.

What to do with this as a Dubai parent: ask whether the person teaching your child holds a current private tuition work permit, ask who employs them, and ask what happens if the match is wrong. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership of any kind; where you see those words used as a selling point, ask to see the permit or centre number behind them.

Scheduling an online Spanish session into a Dubai week

The practical window in Dubai is narrower than families expect. Buses from the Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Nad Al Sheba school clusters deliver students home between four and a quarter to five, and a child who walks in at half past four is not ready for an unseen Spanish text five minutes later. Sessions for Dubai MYP students sit overwhelmingly between half past five and half past seven Gulf Standard Time, with a second cluster on Saturday mornings.

Ramadan reorganises the week rather than suspending it. School days shorten, late afternoons become a poor time for language work, and families plan around iftar. The two slots that work are early afternoon, newly free because school finished earlier, and after iftar, when the student is alert and the household has settled. Book the change a fortnight ahead; post-iftar slots across the Gulf fill quickly and the good ones go first.

The internal assessment calendar is the other fixed point. Dubai IB schools stack Language Acquisition tasks into defined assessment weeks and most publish the dates at the first parents' evening. A family that has those dates in September can book a short intensive block against them rather than discovering a portfolio task three days out. Ask for the calendar, then ask the tutor to map the twelve-week log onto it.

Two smaller advantages of the online format are worth stating because they are the reasons families stay rather than the reasons they start. Travel is normal in this city, and a slot held over live video survives three weeks in Europe or India without rebooking. And moving a session by a day costs nobody a commute, so a school trip or a sports fixture is a message rather than a negotiation about mileage.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities where this question comes from most

Requests for a Spanish home tutor cluster in the apartment-dense western corridor and the central business districts, where the travel arithmetic behind an in-home rate is at its least forgiving. Local detail below, because it changes what a weekly slot can look like.

Dubai Marina

Tower living with building access, visitor parking and lift queues all sitting between a tutor and a 5.30pm start. Families here often tried an in-home arrangement first and moved online after the third late arrival. Sessions land at 5.30pm or 6.30pm and hold steady through the year.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Similar towers, shorter commutes to the Al Barsha school cluster, and a high share of families who travel in school holidays. The online slot survives three weeks in Madrid or Manila; an in-home slot has to be cancelled and rebooked, usually at a worse time.

Palm Jumeirah

Single access road, security gates at the fronds and the highest in-home travel premium in the city. Several providers quote the Palm at the top of their AED band for that reason alone. Nothing about the teaching changes; only the invoice does.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Dense, central, and badly affected by evening traffic on Al Khail and Sheikh Zayed. Parents here are frequently still at work at 6pm, which makes a recorded speaking sample and marked work far more useful than a lesson they cannot overhear anyway.

Al Sufouh and Dubai Media City

Close to several large private schools, so in-home supply is better here than almost anywhere, and the travel premium is lower. The constraint becomes subject rather than distance: a local Spanish speaker is easy to find, a Language Acquisition specialist is not.

The Greens and The Views

Low-rise apartments with a short run to the Al Barsha and Al Quoz schools. Students are often home by 4pm here, which makes this one of the few Dubai communities where a 5pm session is realistic rather than optimistic.

Dubai Healthcare City and Al Jaddaf

Served by an IB continuum school on its doorstep and a growing set of residential towers. Requests from here skew towards MYP 4 and MYP 5 students with a specific portfolio deadline rather than general language support, so fixed blocks suit better than open-ended weekly lessons.

Marina, JLT, Al Sufouh and Media City

The western corridor. Students we support here commute to a mix of IB and British-curriculum schools, and the recurring issue is that a tower address makes an in-home visit expensive while putting no constraint at all on an online slot. Marked work and recordings travel better than tutors do.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Dubai College
  • American School of Dubai
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Downtown, Business Bay and Dubai Healthcare City

Central Dubai, where evening traffic is the binding constraint on any arrangement involving a car. Students we support in this cluster are often in MYP 4 or MYP 5 with a dated portfolio deadline, which is why the twelve-week evidence log below is the format families here ask for.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Safa Community School
  • GEMS Wellington Primary School

These schools are named to describe the Dubai school landscape and because students we support attend them; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any school, school group or examination board.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the four criterion marks, not just the grade

A short form: MYP year, school, the one-to-seven grade and the four criterion marks from the last report. Those four numbers are the diagnosis and they determine which tutor we match. If your report card does not show them, say so and we will work them out in the trial lesson instead.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson that produces a baseline

Sixty minutes, no payment, four short tasks and a ninety-second recording. You keep the recording and receive a written placement note referencing the phase descriptors. If the tutor is not the right fit, you have lost an hour and gained a baseline, which is more than most first lessons leave behind.

  3. 03

Agree the focus criterion and the twelve-week log

One criterion is named as the focus, because four at once moves none of them. The twelve-week log on this page is adapted to your child's school unit plan and internal assessment calendar, and the dates are written down. Week six is set as a review point before anything starts.

  4. 04

Marked work back before the next session

One piece of your child's own work each week, marked against the named criterion with strand-level comments in the school's own vocabulary. It arrives before the following lesson, not at the end of the month. Twelve weeks of this is the record the next decision gets made from.

  5. 05

Week six: review, switch or stop

A written review naming what has moved and what has not, plus a second recording. Three outcomes are on the table: continue, change the focus criterion, or change tutor. Stopping is also an outcome and we would rather you took it at week six than drifted to week twenty.

  6. 06

Week twelve: a decision with evidence behind it

Third recording, the final marked tasks and a written review that compares week one with week twelve on the same task types. Blocks do not roll over automatically. If the evidence supports another block, you will be able to see why; if it does not, you keep the folder either way.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A record instead of a reassurance

Twelve dated, marked artefacts and three recordings per term, in the same criterion vocabulary your Dubai school report uses. The point is not that we mark; it is that you can read the marking and compare it with the school's. Nothing else in this market gives a parent a way to check the claim.

The travel premium does not appear on your invoice

Dubai in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour carry forty to fifty minutes of term-time driving each way. Online delivery removes that cost and the geographic filter behind it, so the tutor is chosen for knowing MYP phase descriptors rather than for living near Dubai Marina.

Spoken progress you can actually hear

Recorded ninety-second tasks at weeks one, six and twelve, marked against the Criterion D strands while the student listens. Families consistently report this as the most convincing evidence they receive, and it is the piece an in-home hour almost never produces.

A week-six exit built in

The review at week six can end the block, change the focus criterion or change the tutor, and asking for a different tutor is treated as a normal request. Arrangements that cannot be ended cleanly are how families end up paying for a year of pleasant conversation.

Limits on coursework stated up front

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has already produced. For the MYP Personal Project and every assessed Spanish task, the student writes every word themselves. An IB academic-honesty finding follows the student, which is why this boundary is in writing before the first lesson.

Figures and rules with their sources attached

Every AED band here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it and dated October 2026. Permit facts come from u.ae and MoHRE, school-fee context from KHDA. IB session dates are left off these pages because they could not be verified from the IB directly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does a Spanish home tutor charge per hour in Dubai?+

Rates read across Dubai providers in October 2026 put an in-home one-to-one visit at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IB specialist. Advertised monthly packages include AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are other providers' published figures, not ours. The gap between the in-home and online bands is mostly the car: forty to fifty minutes of Dubai term-time driving each way sits inside that rate whether anyone itemises it or not.

Can a tutor come to our villa in Dubai Marina instead of teaching online?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. For MYP Spanish the trade favours you twice over: the tutor is chosen for knowing Language Acquisition phase descriptors rather than for living within a drive of the Marina, and the session produces marked work and a recording instead of an hour nobody kept a copy of.

How will I know my child's Spanish is improving before the next report card?+

By reading the marked work and listening to the recordings. After four weeks you should hold a ninety-second baseline recording from the trial lesson, four pieces of your child's own work marked against a named criterion with strand-level comments, a note of why that criterion was chosen, at least one planning frame, and one sentence about what has not moved. None of that requires you to speak Spanish. Two marks on the same task type five weeks apart is harder information than any progress summary.

Why does my child's Dubai report card show four numbers for Spanish?+

Because MYP Language Acquisition is marked on four criteria of eight marks each: comprehending spoken text, comprehending written text, communicating in response, and using the language in spoken and written form. The four add to thirty-two, and your school converts that to a one-to-seven grade using its own boundaries. The four numbers are the diagnosis and the single grade is the summary, so read them in that order. Ask your MYP coordinator for the boundary table; it tells you how many marks sit between the current grade and the next.

Do you mark my child's work between lessons or only during them?+

Between them, and that is the part of the arrangement that produces the record. One piece of the student's own written or recorded work goes back each week marked against the named focus criterion, with comments at strand level in the vocabulary the school's report uses, and it arrives before the next session rather than at the end of the month. Twelve weeks of a weekly slot therefore leaves twelve dated artefacts. A tutoring arrangement that produces nothing between sessions gives you no way to check it.

How long does it take for an MYP Spanish grade to actually move?+

Typically two reporting cycles rather than one. Criterion A listening moves fastest, often within a term, because it responds to listening volume. Criterion C response work takes about four sessions to restructure and then a full assessment cycle for the school to see it. Criterion D is cumulative and slowest. Anyone offering a faster timetable than that is selling rather than teaching, and no tutor can promise a particular grade in any case. What can be shown is movement on the same task type, marked twice.

What happens if twelve weeks of marked work shows nothing changing?+

There are four usual explanations and they need different responses. The wrong criterion was chosen as the focus, which the record makes visible quickly. The phase placement is wrong, in which case the fix is a conversation with the MYP coordinator rather than more lessons. The match between tutor and student is not working, which is a rematch and not a complaint. Or the expectation was faster than the subject allows. We would rather name which of the four it is at week six than let a block run to week twenty.

Can we change tutor without starting the whole arrangement again?+

Yes, and the week-six review exists partly for that. The record travels: the new tutor receives the placement note, the marked tasks, the recordings and the focus criterion, so the first session continues the block rather than restarting it. In a language subject where a student has to be willing to be wrong out loud, the pairing matters more than in most subjects, and asking for a different tutor is treated as a normal request rather than as a complaint about anyone.

How do I check a Dubai tutor is permitted to teach privately?+

Ask for their MoHRE private tutor work permit. Private tuition in the UAE runs under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, the permit is granted free of charge for two years, and u.ae states that individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine amounts are published, so treat any figure quoted at you with suspicion. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Will the tutor follow my child's own school deadlines in Dubai?+

That is the intention, and it is why the tutor asks for the unit plan and the internal assessment calendar in week one. Dubai IB schools stack Language Acquisition tasks into defined assessment weeks and most publish the dates at the first parents' evening. The twelve-week log on this page is then mapped onto those dates rather than run alongside them. A tutor working to a generic syllabus while the school assesses something else produces marks that do not transfer to a report card.

We have two children in MYP Spanish. Can one tutor take both?+

One tutor, two separate sessions, is what works. A shared hour sounds efficient and fails in practice unless the two are in the same phase and working on the same criterion, which siblings rarely are. The same tutor across both does help: they hold the comparison, spot that one child's Criterion B problem is the other's too, and can reuse planning frames. Each child still gets their own marked work, their own recordings and their own focus criterion, because the record is individual or it is useless.

Can a tutor work on my child's MYP Personal Project if it involves Spanish?+

A tutor can question the goal, help plan the process, discuss sources and give feedback on what the student has already produced. The student writes every word of the report and the process journal themselves. We put that in writing before the first session because parts of this market do not, and because an academic-honesty finding under IB rules attaches to the student rather than to the tutor. A provider offering to produce the project for you is telling you something useful about itself.

What exactly happens in the trial lesson, and what do we keep?+

Sixty minutes with a Spanish specialist, no payment and no obligation. Four short tasks, one per criterion, plus a ninety-second recorded interaction. You keep the recording and receive a written note placing the evidence against the published phase descriptors, which you can take to your MYP coordinator. If the tutor is not right for your child you have spent an hour and gained a baseline, which is more than most paid first lessons leave behind in this market.

Does a poor internet connection make online Spanish lessons unworkable?+

A weak line ruins listening tasks and makes recordings useless as evidence, so it is worth sorting before the trial rather than after. Headphones matter more than a camera: a laptop microphone across a room picks up the room, not the student, which defeats the point of a recorded speaking sample. A wired connection or strong Wi-Fi in the room where the lesson happens is enough. Dubai household connections are generally well up to it; the failures we see are microphones and distance, not bandwidth.

Is small-group Spanish tutoring better value than one-to-one for MYP?+

Cheaper per student, and weaker on exactly the thing this page is about. Group rates in the Dubai market sit well below one-to-one, but a group is set by the group's level rather than the student's, and individual criterion diagnosis is hard to extract from shared work. For a student whose problem is a specific criterion, group work tends to produce activity rather than evidence. For general exposure and speaking confidence at Phase 1 or 2, it can be a reasonable use of money.

Ask for the record before you ask for the rate

If you are weighing an in-home Spanish tutor in Dubai against an online one, the question that settles it is not the hourly figure. It is what you will be holding in four weeks. Ask any provider, including us, for the marked work, the named criterion, the planning frame and the recording. Then compare their answer with the twelve-week log on this page. IB Gram's first lesson is free, produces a baseline recording and a written placement note you keep, and commits you to nothing. Send us the MYP year, the school and the four criterion marks from the last report, and we will match a Spanish specialist for the trial.
