IB Tutor for Indian Students in Dubai

An IB tutor for Indian students in Dubai is usually hired for one of two reasons: a child has moved from CBSE or ICSE into an IB cohort, or a child born into the IB here is being pointed at an Indian or Gulf university and nobody has explained what that requires. This page is about the money first. Dubai market rates, in AED, with sources, and the specific things that push an Indian family's bill up or down. Lessons are one-to-one, live online.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Start with the bill, because nobody else will

Three of the six competitor pages measured in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in. One agency's own FAQ asks how much tutoring costs and then declines to answer. For an Indian family in Dubai that is more than an annoyance, because the budgeting instinct carried over from Chennai, Hyderabad or Delhi is calibrated to a market where a subject tutor costs a fraction of this one. The number has to be named before anything else is useful.

Here is the market, in AED, from published sources. A generalist or university-student online tutor sits at the bottom of the range: EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 an hour, Tutopiya from AED 33-52. A qualified subject tutor working online is the working middle, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An in-home visit adds a travel premium, which Bestimate puts at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500. A named IB or IGCSE specialist runs AED 200-450 and upward, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the examiner-positioned end. None of those are IB Gram's prices; they are what the market charges, cited so you can check them.

Converted to a monthly figure, which is what a family actually plans, Bestimate's Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages visible in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those bands are wide for a reason, and the width is where this page earns its place: the variables that decide where in the band you land are predictable, and several of them are specific to Indian families in Dubai.

The first is subject count. An Indian-curriculum transfer into IB Diploma usually needs two subjects supported, not one, because the gap pattern clusters in mathematics and the sciences at the same time. Two subjects at the mid-band rate is a different budget from one. The second is HL versus SL. The tutor pool for Maths AA HL and Chemistry HL is thinner than for the SL equivalents, and thin pools price higher everywhere, in every market, including this one.

The third variable is the one Indian families most often underestimate: the internal assessment. Each IB subject carries coursework marked inside the school, and process coaching on an IA, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay is a different kind of work from teaching topics. It is front-loaded, it clusters around school deadlines rather than spreading evenly, and it tends to be bought in blocks. Bought as blocks it is predictable. Bought in a panic three weeks before a deadline it is not.

The fourth is Hindi. If your child is taking Hindi B or Hindi ab initio as their Group 2 language, the tutor pool for that is genuinely small in the UAE, and the honest answer is that availability at a specific evening hour on Gulf Standard Time cannot always be promised. All IB Gram tuition in the UAE is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is an India-only service.

At a glance

  • Market online rate for a qualified subject tutor: AED 150-300 per hour, per Unitors' published figures
  • Two supported subjects, not one, is the normal starting point for a CBSE-to-IB transfer
  • HL subjects price above SL because the specialist pool is smaller
  • Internal assessment support is block work, not a weekly drip
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27, so the tuition line is the variable one
  • Indian curriculum accounts for 26% of Dubai private school enrolment, per the 2024-25 KHDA figures
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Indian families in Dubai meet the IB at three different points, and the cost profile differs sharply between them. These notes are about what each programme costs a family in effort and money, not a general description of the programme.

MYPAges 11-16 · Grades 6-10

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four lettered criteria per subject, each scored 0-8 and converted to a 1-7 grade. There are no external exams in most MYP years. Grade 10 ends with the Personal Project. The assessment language is the obstacle for a student used to marks out of 100 for a correct answer, because an MYP criterion can award full marks for a wrong conclusion reasoned well.

The cheapest place for an Indian family in Dubai to intervene. MYP support is usually one subject, usually one session a week, at the lower end of the market band, and it fixes the criteria literacy problem before it compounds into a DP problem. Families who skip it and start tutoring in Grade 11 pay several times more for the same understanding, two years later.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher Level and three Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the Creativity, Activity, Service strand. Each subject carries internal assessment marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. UAE schools sit the May session. Subject grades run 1-7, with up to three bonus points from TOK and the Extended Essay, for a ceiling of 45.

The expensive one, and the place Indian families in Dubai spend most. The driver is subject count: a transferring student commonly needs maths and one science supported simultaneously, and if an HL subject had to change because the Dubai school's block timetable differs, that subject is a standing start. Budget it separately rather than folding it into the same weekly hour.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary and inquiry-led, organised around units of inquiry. No external exams, no conventional grades, and assessment by portfolio plus the Grade 5 Exhibition. A child arriving from an Indian primary school often looks strong on arithmetic and computation and weak on explaining a method aloud or in writing.

Rarely an academic spend for Indian families in Dubai. Where money goes at this stage it goes on Arabic, which is mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and on written explanation. A non-Arab child joins the additional-language Arabic stream, which KHDA requires to be taught separately from the first-language classes.

CPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma subjects paired with a career-related study, plus a personal and professional skills course, a reflective project, service learning and language development. Uncommon in the UAE but it exists, and for a student who cannot carry six Diploma subjects it is a landing place rather than a failure.

Very few Dubai schools run it, so this is a short list rather than a choice, and the cost question becomes which two Diploma subjects are being carried. Check the IB's programme finder and then the school directly, since school websites in this market are frequently a year out of date.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Indian families in Dubai most often pay for, with the specific reason the money goes there. Where a subject is listed, it is because the CBSE or ICSE preparation and the IB demand diverge in a way that costs marks.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The commonest single spend. A CBSE student arrives with more mechanical fluency than most IB classmates and loses marks on justification, because AA treats 'find', 'show that' and 'justify' as different instructions. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and modelling led, with a graphical calculator assumed throughout. Students from a pure-maths background often find the content light and the technology unfamiliar, losing marks on calculator notation and on interpreting rather than computing a regression.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Physical chemistry is where the money goes: enthalpy cycles, entropy and equilibrium constants are standard IB and thinner in many Indian school backgrounds. The scientific investigation is a single piece of coursework marked against lettered criteria, unlike a practical record book.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty treatment is the differentiator. Indian-schooled students usually handle the mechanics comfortably and then lose marks propagating errors, drawing error bars and justifying the precision of a result. HL adds the quantum topic and harder field theory.

Biology

HL and SL

Breadth plus command-term discipline. The syllabus is wide and the instruction words are precise, so a student who writes everything they know for an 'outline' question scores below one who writes three lines. Recall-rewarding backgrounds make this worse, not better.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal assessment commentaries, each on a news article published inside a defined window, each applying a different syllabus unit. Popular with Indian families aiming at business degrees, and the commentary deadlines are the part that gets bought in a hurry.

Hindi B and Hindi ab initio

HL/SL (B) and SL (ab initio)

The Group 2 option many Indian families in Dubai choose, and the hardest to staff. Assessment is against defined text types and registers, so a fluent household speaker can still lose heavily on formal written register. Availability at a specific evening hour cannot always be promised.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, which is the surprise: advertisements, speeches and infographics are examinable. Students from literature-only English backgrounds are strong on Paper 2 and exposed on Paper 1 and the Individual Oral.

Business Management

HL and SL

Approachable content, unforgiving assessment. HL requires a research project on a real organisation with supporting documents, and Paper 1 uses a pre-released case study that rewards early preparation. Often the subject a transferring student is moved into by timetable rather than choice.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a working solution for an identified client, documented through a development process. Students with competitive-programming backgrounds build well and document poorly, and the documentation is where most of the criteria marks sit.

Arabic ab initio

SL

Relevant to Indian families twice: as a Group 2 Diploma option and because Arabic is a KHDA-mandated subject in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed curriculum. A student with no prior Arabic starts in the additional-language stream.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

Together worth up to three bonus points. The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent research piece with a supervisor and three formal reflection sessions. A tutor coaches the research process and gives feedback on the student's own drafts; the writing must be the student's.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each option below is priced differently and bought for a different reason. All are delivered live over video, one-to-one unless stated. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE.

Single-subject weekly slot

The cheapest useful arrangement and the one most Indian families in Dubai should start with. One subject, one tutor, a fixed weekly hour on Gulf Standard Time, working a topic ahead of the class rather than a week behind it. At the market's mid-band this is the AED 600-1,200 a month shape in Bestimate's published estimates.

  • One subject only, chosen by where marks are actually being lost
  • Same tutor weekly, so the context does not get rebuilt each time
  • Written work set between sessions and marked, not just discussed
  • Reviewed termly against evidence rather than renewed by default

Two-subject transfer package

What a CBSE or ICSE student entering the Diploma usually actually needs, because the gap clusters in mathematics and a science simultaneously. Two tutors, two slots, one shared gap list. It costs roughly double a single subject, which is the honest arithmetic, and it compresses the catch-up into one term rather than three.

  • Maths plus one science is the commonest pairing
  • Both tutors work from the same written gap list
  • Front-loaded: heavier for six weeks, then stepped down
  • Priced per subject; there is no discount we will pretend exists

Internal assessment and core blocks

Bought as a defined block rather than a standing slot, because IA, Extended Essay and TOK work clusters around school-set deadlines. The tutor explains the criteria letter by letter with marks attached, coaches the research question and methodology, and gives written feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written, co-written or edited to completion.

  • A fixed number of sessions agreed against a known deadline
  • Criteria explained by letter, not summarised in general terms
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • No drafting, ghostwriting or model answers to adapt; that is an IB malpractice risk

Exam-window intensive

Concentrated sessions before mocks and before the May session, usually two hours at a time across a few weeks. This is the band Bestimate puts at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month for specialist exam-year support, and it is the right place to spend if a family has to choose one point in the two years to spend heavily.

  • Two-hour sessions, several days a week, for a defined number of weeks
  • Past papers under timed conditions, marked and returned in writing
  • Scheduled around Ramadan timings and the UAE school calendar
  • Finite by design, with an end date agreed before it starts

The tutors matched here have taught both systems. That matters because the translation problem runs both ways: an Indian-schooled student arriving in the IB and an IB student aiming at an Indian or Gulf university are two different briefs, and the same tutor rarely handles both well without having lived in both.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB tutor for Indian students in Dubai actually costs

A qualified online IB subject tutor in Dubai costs between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour at market rates, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Below that band you are buying a generalist; above it you are buying either a travel premium or a specialism. That is the whole answer, and the rest of this section is about which of those you need.

The cheap end is real and it has a real use. EdFlik's AED 45-65 and Tutopiya's AED 33-52 buy homework supervision and company, which for a Grade 7 MYP student who simply will not sit down is sometimes exactly the product. What it does not buy is a syllabus-accurate reading of why a Maths AA answer scored 3 out of 6, because that requires someone who has taught the course and marked against its criteria.

The travel premium is the band Indian families most often pay without deciding to. Bestimate puts in-home visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500. The gap between that and the online band is the commute, not the teaching. For a widely-taught subject the local pool is deep enough that you are only paying for convenience. For Maths AA HL, Chemistry HL or Hindi B in a specific community at a specific hour, the pool may be empty at any price.

The specialist band, AED 200-450 and upward with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650, is worth it for a narrow set of things: a Higher Level science in the final year, an internal assessment that is going badly, and a subject that had to be started from scratch after a timetable change. Outside those, it is usually money that would do more as a second subject at the mid-band rate.

The five things that move an Indian family's tuition bill

Bestimate's monthly bands run from AED 240 to over AED 2,000 for what is nominally the same product, a weekly one-hour session. That spread is not noise. Five variables explain almost all of it, and four of them are inside a family's control.

Subject count comes first and dominates everything else. A CBSE or ICSE transfer into the Diploma typically needs mathematics and one science supported in the same term, because the gap pattern hits both at once. Two subjects is two bills. Families who try to cover both inside one weekly hour get a worse result than families who pick one and do it properly, which is a cheaper mistake but still a mistake.

Level comes second: HL prices above SL because the pool of people who can teach Chemistry HL or Maths AA HL to the top of the syllabus is smaller. Timing comes third, and it works in both directions — the final two terms before the May session carry the specialist exam-year band, while the same support bought in DP1 sits in the mid-band and does more good. Internal assessment work comes fourth, and it is block-shaped rather than weekly, which makes it feel expensive when it is actually just compressed.

Fifth is availability, which is the variable families cannot control. Hindi B, Hindi ab initio and some Group 2 languages have genuinely thin UAE coverage, and a thin pool at a fixed hour prices higher in any market. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base, including IB specialists in India, delivered identically over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

CBSE and ICSE to IB: where the marks go missing

This is the section that decides whether the money is well spent, because an Indian-schooled student entering the IB is almost never short of content. They are short of a set of habits, and the habits are worth naming precisely rather than describing as a general adjustment.

Justification is the big one. CBSE and ICSE reward a correct answer; the IB pays for the reasoning that produced it. In Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, 'find', 'show that', 'justify' and 'hence deduce' are four different instructions with four different mark consequences, and a student who gives the right number without the working loses most of the marks. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which catches out anyone whose previous system allowed one in every paper.

In the sciences, the two gaps are uncertainty and coursework. Uncertainty treatment — propagating an error, drawing sensible error bars, justifying the precision of a stated result — is standard IB Physics and Chemistry and is thin in most Indian school preparation. The coursework gap is bigger: a CBSE practical record book and an IB scientific investigation marked against lettered criteria are not the same genre, and a student who has only produced the former has no feel for what 'personal engagement' is worth on a mark scheme.

In the humanities and English the gap is the opposite shape. Students who have learned to write a great deal are penalised for it, because the IB's command terms set a scope: 'outline' wants three lines and 'evaluate' wants a judgement. English A Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, so advertisements, speeches and infographics are examinable, which is a genuine surprise to a student from a literature-only background.

04

Hindi, Arabic and the Group 2 decision

  • Hindi B assumes prior learning; a fluent speaker cannot be placed in ab initio
  • Register and text type are what Group 2 marks, not conversational fluency
  • Arabic ab initio overlaps with the KHDA-mandated Arabic stream, which helps
  • Hindi tutor availability is the thinnest of any subject in this market; ask early

Every Diploma student takes a Group 2 language, and for Indian families in Dubai this choice has cost consequences that nobody flags at the options evening. The three realistic routes are Hindi B, Hindi ab initio and Arabic ab initio, and they are not interchangeable.

Hindi B assumes prior learning and assesses productive and receptive skills against defined text types and registers. The trap for a household where Hindi is spoken daily is that fluency is not the thing being marked. A student who converses easily can still score poorly on writing a formal letter, a report or a blog post in the register the task demands, and on reading comprehension of unfamiliar written forms. Hindi ab initio is for genuine beginners, and placing a fluent speaker there is not permitted.

Arabic ab initio is the other common choice, and it carries a second benefit specific to Dubai. Arabic is mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed for, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. A student already studying Arabic as an additional language in the mandatory stream has a running start. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ.

On availability, the honest position: Hindi B and Hindi ab initio tutors are scarcer in the UAE than any other subject an Indian family is likely to ask for. We will tell you if we cannot cover your preferred hour rather than booking a generalist against a specialist syllabus. This is the one place on this page where the limiting factor is supply and not budget.

05

Maths AA or AI, and what Indian and Gulf universities expect

This decision costs more money than any other single choice an Indian family makes in the Diploma, because getting it wrong means either a year of unnecessary struggle or a closed door at application time. The two courses are genuinely different subjects, not a harder and easier version of one.

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic, proof-oriented course. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, and the syllabus privileges deductive reasoning. Applications and Interpretation is statistics-led and modelling-led with a graphical calculator assumed throughout. For engineering, physics, mathematics and most quantitative economics degrees, AA — usually HL — is the expected route. For business, design, social sciences and many life-science paths, AI is appropriate and often the better fit.

The complication for Indian families in Dubai is that two admissions systems are in play. A student aiming at an Indian engineering route is usually also preparing for a separate entrance examination with its own syllabus, which runs alongside the Diploma rather than inside it. That is a second workload, and it is the main reason an Indian DP student in Dubai ends up needing two kinds of maths support at once. Families should decide early whether they are funding IB marks, entrance-exam preparation, or both, because the answer changes the tutor.

On specific university requirements, check the institution's own published entry criteria rather than any summary, including ours. Requirements change, they vary by faculty, and a page that printed them would be wrong within a year. The one thing worth stating plainly is that nothing about tutoring is required for admission anywhere, and any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a process they do not control.

Tuition cost in the context of a Dubai school fee

  • No Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27, per KHDA's 22 May 2026 announcement
  • 387,441 students across 227 Dubai private schools in 2024-25, Indian curriculum at 26%
  • 16,846 new places for 2026-27, including three new IB schools
  • The same tuition budget spent in DP1 does more than in the final term

Tutoring is a line item next to a much larger one, and Indian families in Dubai are usually running the whole education budget in their heads at once. One useful anchor arrived in May 2026: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total.

That matters for planning because it makes the biggest number in the budget a known quantity for a year, and leaves tuition as the variable one. It also changes the arithmetic of a common decision: whether to move a child to a more expensive school or to keep the school and fund tuition. With fees held flat, the marginal cost of the school is predictable and the marginal cost of a tutor is the thing to model.

The second piece of context is market scale. Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the Indian curriculum the second largest by enrolment behind the UK one. Seven new private schools arrive for 2026-27 — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places, after six opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. A family considering a move into an IB school has more options each year, not fewer.

Set against that, a mid-band tutoring budget of AED 600-1,200 a month for one subject, from Bestimate's published estimates, is a meaningful but not transformative share of most families' education spend. The planning question is not whether to spend it but where in the two years to put it, and the answer is almost always earlier than families choose.

07

The exam calendar, and the series your child will actually sit

Indian families carry a calendar instinct from a different system, and one specific error is common enough to be worth naming. Cambridge International's February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June and November series. A family who plans a Dubai IGCSE year around a February or March exam window is planning around a series their child cannot enter.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, exams run in May/June and November. The published pattern shows why entry deadlines sit months ahead of the paper: the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students in January — November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026. June results come in August, with June 2026 results reaching centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam because the wrong zone timetable was used.

For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session. We do not publish a specific IB exam or results date on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and any date we printed would be second-hand. Ask your school's Diploma coordinator for the entered session and the internal deadline calendar in writing, and verify against ibo.org.

Counted backwards, the planning sequence is the same whatever the board: confirm the session, get the internal deadlines in writing, work out which have passed, then place the tuition budget where it still changes something. The table below separates the dates the board controls from the ones the school controls, which is the distinction families most often miss.

Academic honesty: the line a tutor cannot cross for any fee

  • Allowed: criteria by letter, methodology teaching, written feedback on the student's own drafts
  • Not allowed: writing, co-writing, editing to completion, supplying a model to adapt
  • The test: could the student defend every line in an oral?
  • Official papers and mark schemes are linked, never reproduced or supplied

This belongs on a page about money because money is exactly how the line gets crossed. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments. That is an IB malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student, who can be excluded, not on the seller, who keeps the fee.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. They may teach the subject content, explain each assessment criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, challenge and narrow a research question, teach the methodology, read the student's own draft and give written feedback against the criteria, and teach referencing conventions. That is the help that actually moves a mark, and it is what the block pricing on this page refers to.

What a tutor may not do is write any part of the work, dictate sentences to be transcribed, supply a methodology or dataset as the student's own, edit a draft into a finished state, or hand over a model answer to be adapted. The practical test is whether the student could explain and defend every line of the work in an oral examination. If not, it is over the line regardless of how it was described when it was sold.

The same principle governs materials. We do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. We reference and link the official source. If a provider offers a library of mark schemes as an inducement, that tells you how they are likely to handle the rest of it too.

Is the tutor you are paying legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

  • Permit route: MoHRE private tutor work permit, Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Free of charge, valid two years, two working days to issue
  • No published fine schedule; treat any quoted amount as unverified
  • A Dubai tuition centre with premises needs a separate KHDA permit; we hold none

A cost question dressed as a compliance one, and the answer is clear enough to act on. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE will be subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone.

Crucially for a family comparing quotes, the permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and the application runs through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. A provider who builds a permit fee into a rate is inventing it.

There is a related restriction worth knowing if you are comparing an independent tutor against a platform. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. So an arrangement built around your child's own classroom teacher is not one to pursue. This is press-reported rather than read from the policy document, so verify against current ADEK guidance.

Finally, a tuition operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold one, is not KHDA approved, and operates no UAE office, centre or branch. All UAE delivery is online.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities where Indian families most often need a slot

The practical cost of tutoring includes the hour it eats. These are the communities with the densest Indian-family populations in Dubai and what the commute does to an evening session.

Mirdif

Villa and townhouse living with a thick cluster of Indian and British curriculum schools nearby. Short runs mean a 4.30pm or 5pm weekday slot is usually realistic through term.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Dense apartment living near the Sharjah boundary, with many families commuting across the emirate line for work. The crossing at peak hours pushes the usable study window to 6.30pm or later on weekdays.

Karama and Oud Metha

Older central Dubai, close to several long-established Indian schools, so school runs are short. The constraint here is usually a shared study space at home rather than the commute.

International City and Warsan

Affordable apartment stock and long drives to most school clusters. Families here often prefer two weekend sessions over two weekday ones, because the weekday arithmetic rarely works.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Sports City

A newer centre of gravity for Indian professional families, with schooling usually a community or two away. A fixed online slot avoids the parking and drop-off time that an in-home arrangement adds at both ends.

Discovery Gardens and The Gardens

Apartment communities beside the Marina and Jebel Ali corridor, well used by families with children at schools along Sheikh Zayed Road. Expect an evening slot rather than a late-afternoon one.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several schools and universities, so commutes are short and the 5pm slot survives. A useful area for families wanting two sessions a week without losing two evenings to driving.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Barsha South

Newer villa stock attracting Indian families moving out of apartments, with schooling often inside the community. One of the few Dubai areas where a 4pm weekday session is genuinely achievable.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Central and eastern Dubai

Where the long-established Indian-curriculum schools sit, several of which also run IB programmes. Families here frequently have one child on CBSE and one on IB in the same household, which is its own scheduling problem.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The Indian High School Dubai
  • Our Own English High School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • Universal American School Dubai

Western and new Dubai

The IB-heavy belt, where Indian families moving from a CBSE school to an IB one usually land. Several of these schools run the full PYP-MYP-DP continuum, which makes an internal transfer easier than a change of school.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai American Academy
  • GEMS International School Al Khail
  • Fairgreen International School
  • Uptown International School

These schools are named as market context only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement from any school or school group listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which subject is actually losing marks

Not 'maths', but which paper, which topic and which question type. Send the last two marked assessments if you can. This is the step that decides whether one subject or two is the right spend, and it takes a parent ten minutes with a school report in hand.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson before any payment

One session, no charge, with the tutor we think fits the course, the level and the hour. By the end of it the tutor should be able to name the specific habit or topic costing marks. If the match is wrong you say so, and we match again before any money changes hands.

  3. 03

Agree the shape and the number

One subject or two, weekly slot or front-loaded block, and the quote for that exact arrangement rather than a headline rate. The plan says what will not be covered as well as what will, because an unbounded plan is how a tuition budget quietly doubles.

  4. 04

Fixed slot on Gulf Standard Time

Set against your real commute, not the ideal one. Remember the Dubai week runs Monday to Friday with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, so Friday evening is a school night. During Ramadan the slot moves after Iftar, agreed in advance rather than renegotiated weekly.

  5. 05

    Written work, marked, between sessions

Work set and returned with written comments against the mark scheme, so progress is visible in something other than a school grade three months later. For internal assessment blocks, feedback is against the criteria letter by letter, on the student's own drafts only.

  6. 06

Review termly and stop when it stops paying

At the end of each term the question is whether the slot is still earning its cost. When the gap is closed, the right advice is usually to pause and return for a block before mocks. We would rather tell you that than keep a slot booked for twenty-four months.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the AED numbers with sources

Every rate on this page is attributed to whoever published it, with the date of review. Three of the six competitor pages measured in this market publish no price at all and the two that do quote dollars. A family comparing quotes needs the market, not a brochure.

Both systems, in the same tutor

The translation from CBSE or ICSE habits into IB marks is specific and nameable: justification, command-term scope, uncertainty, coursework criteria. Tutors matched here have taught on both sides of that gap, which is why the first session produces a list rather than an impression.

Honest about what we do not do

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, no KHDA approval, no regulator accreditation, no UAE office. Where a subject is thinly covered — Hindi B above all — we say so before taking a booking rather than substituting a generalist for a specialist syllabus.

The academic honesty line is on the page

Criteria explained, drafts read, feedback written, nothing authored. It is stated here rather than buried in terms, because the internal assessment is exactly where a pressured family gets sold something that can have their child excluded.

Plans with an end date

The two-subject transfer package is front-loaded and steps down. Internal assessment work is a defined block against a known deadline. The termly review asks whether to stop. Tutoring that renews by default is a subscription, not an intervention.

Sourced facts or no facts

u.ae for the permit and regulators, KHDA for the mandatory subjects and the fee freeze, Pearson for the published series pattern, named providers for their own rates. Where a figure is unverified — every IB session date included — we say so rather than printing it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB tutor for Indian students in Dubai charge per hour?+

A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour at market rates, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Below that, EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, which buys supervision rather than syllabus diagnosis. Above it, named specialists run AED 200-450 and upward, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits carry a travel premium of AED 180-500 and are not something IB Gram offers in the UAE. These are market figures with sources, not our price list; our own quote follows a free trial lesson.

Why does a CBSE student entering IB Diploma usually need two subjects tutored rather than one?+

Because the gap arrives in two places at the same time. The mathematics gap is justification and non-calculator technique; the science gap is uncertainty treatment plus a coursework genre the student has never written. Both bite in the first term of DP1, and trying to cover both inside one weekly hour produces a worse result than picking one and doing it properly. The honest arithmetic is that two subjects costs roughly double. The alternative families often choose — one hour split across both — is cheaper and generally wasted, because neither subject gets enough continuity to shift.

Is Hindi B easier than Hindi ab initio for a child who speaks Hindi at home?+

Hindi ab initio is not an option for a fluent speaker, so the question does not arise that way. Hindi B assumes prior learning and assesses productive and receptive skills against defined text types and registers, which is where household fluency stops helping. A student who converses easily can still score poorly writing a formal letter, a report or a blog post in the demanded register, and on comprehension of unfamiliar written forms. Tutor availability for Hindi B in the UAE is the thinnest of any subject an Indian family is likely to request, so ask early rather than assuming a slot exists.

Should an Indian family in Dubai choose Maths AA or Maths AI?+

It depends on the destination, and it is the costliest choice to get wrong. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-led, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator at both levels, and it is the expected route for engineering, physics, mathematics and quantitative economics — usually at Higher Level. Applications and Interpretation is statistics and modelling led with a graphical calculator assumed throughout, and suits business, design and many social-science paths. Check each university's own published entry criteria rather than any summary, including this one, because requirements vary by faculty and change.

Do you send a tutor to our home in Mirdif or Al Nahda?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. The cost consequence is worth seeing plainly: Bestimate puts in-home visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor. That gap buys the commute, not better teaching, and for a thin subject like Maths AA HL or Hindi B the local pool in your specific community may be empty at any price.

When in the two years of the Diploma is tutoring money best spent?+

Earlier than most families choose. Bestimate's published estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, against AED 600-1,200 for the same weekly session bought in the mid-band. The final two terms are the most expensive hours in the programme and the least productive per hour, because the student is also sitting mocks, finishing coursework and applying to universities. The same budget placed in DP1, when a habit can still be retrained rather than patched, buys more marks. Keep a block in reserve for the weeks before mocks.

What exactly can a tutor do on an IB Internal Assessment, and what is off limits?+

A tutor can teach the subject content, explain each criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, challenge and narrow the research question, teach the methodology, read the student's own drafts and give written feedback against the criteria, and teach referencing. A tutor cannot write any part of it, dictate sentences for transcription, supply a dataset or methodology as the student's own, edit a draft to completion, or hand over a model to adapt. The test is whether the student could defend every line in an oral. One operator in this market sells completed IAs; that is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on your child.

Does our child need Arabic if they are on an IB programme in a Dubai school?+

Yes. Arabic is mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed for, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. A non-Arab student joins the additional-language stream; KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. KHDA also requires that teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold appropriate KHDA approval. Treat it as a long, low-intensity thread rather than a crisis.

Which exam series will a Dubai IGCSE student sit, and is February an option?+

No, February is not an option from Dubai. Cambridge International's February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. This matters because families arriving from India sometimes plan a whole year around a February window their child cannot enter. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam through using the wrong zone timetable, so work from the live official timetable for your centre's zone.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a licence, and should that cost be in our quote?+

They need a permit and it costs nothing, so it should not be in your quote. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through a MoHRE private tutor work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

How does a Dubai school fee compare with a year of tutoring?+

The fee is the larger and now the more predictable number. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. Against a flat fee, a mid-band tutoring budget of AED 600-1,200 a month for one subject, from Bestimate's published estimates, is meaningful but not transformative. It also reframes a common decision: with fees held, the question becomes whether to fund a tutor or move schools.

Can one tutor cover both IB maths and an Indian entrance exam syllabus?+

Sometimes, but it is usually two briefs and should be priced as such. The Diploma rewards justification, command-term discipline and non-calculator technique in Paper 1. An Indian engineering entrance syllabus rewards speed, pattern recognition and a different content map. A tutor strong at one is not automatically strong at the other, and compressing both into one weekly hour tends to shortchange the one with the nearer deadline. Decide which you are funding before booking. If both, expect two slots, and expect the entrance-exam preparation to sit outside the school's own calendar entirely.

What happens if no tutor is available for the subject and hour we want?+

We tell you rather than substituting. Coverage is not uniform: English, mathematics to IGCSE and the SL sciences are well supplied at most hours, while Maths AA HL, the HL sciences, HL Economics and Group 2 languages — Hindi above all — are thinner, and a specific evening slot sometimes cannot be filled immediately. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base of IB and IGCSE specialists including tutors in India, delivered identically by live video on Gulf Standard Time. What never happens in either direction is a home visit in the UAE.

Is tutoring at the cheap end of the Dubai market ever the right choice?+

Yes, for a specific job. EdFlik's AED 45-65 and Tutopiya's AED 33-52 buy structure, supervision and company. For a Grade 7 MYP student who will not sit down without someone present, that is genuinely the right product and paying four times more would waste money. What the cheap band cannot do is explain why a Maths AA answer scored three out of six, because that requires someone who has taught the course and marked against its criteria. Match the band to the problem: supervision at the bottom, diagnosis in the middle, final-year HL depth at the top.

If our child later takes IGCSEs here, how many subjects will UAE equivalency need?+

Five, and the exclusions matter. The published British-track requirements are five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. At least one page ranking in this market states six subjects are required, which is wrong. For the IB track we will not publish a points threshold we have not read on moe.gov.ae; ask the Ministry or your school's counsellor directly.

Can sessions work around a commute from Al Nahda or International City?+

Yes, but be realistic about the hour before booking. A family crossing the Sharjah boundary at peak times usually finds 6.30pm or later is the first slot that survives a term, and families in International City often prefer two weekend sessions to two weekday ones because the weekday arithmetic rarely works. In Mirdif, Karama or Silicon Oasis, where school runs are short, a 4.30pm or 5pm slot holds. Remember the Dubai week runs Monday to Friday with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, so Friday evening is a school night and a poor place for the heaviest session.

Get the number, then decide where it goes

The market rate for a qualified online IB subject tutor in Dubai is AED 150-300 an hour, and the monthly bands published for this city run from AED 240 to over AED 2,000 for what looks like the same product. The difference is subject count, level, timing, internal assessment work and availability — and four of those five are yours to decide. Start with a free trial lesson, bring the last two marked assessments, and the session should end with a named topic rather than a general impression. Sessions are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to UAE homes, and if we cannot cover your subject at a workable hour we will say so.
