IB MYP Extended Mathematics Tutor in Dubai

An IB MYP extended mathematics tutor in Dubai is quoted higher than a standard-route one, and the reason is supply rather than difficulty. Published rates in this emirate run from AED 150 to AED 300 for qualified online subject tutors and AED 200 to AED 450 and above for specialists, with one named provider at AED 650. This page explains what the extended premium buys, how many sessions each extended topic realistically needs, and what a two-year budget to higher level looks like.

  • Session estimates given per extended topic, not as an open-ended plan

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The extended premium is a supply problem, and it is quantifiable

Families in Dubai are often quoted more for extended-route Middle Years mathematics than for standard, and told vaguely that it is harder. That is the wrong explanation. The hour is not harder to deliver; the number of people who can deliver it well is smaller. A tutor who can teach number, ratio and right-angled trigonometry to a Year 9 class is easy to find at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, which is the published band for qualified online subject tutors in this market. A tutor fluent in algebraic fractions, function transformations, non-right-angled trigonometry and formal generalisation, who also reads criterion descriptors confidently, sits in the specialist band of AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with one named provider publishing AED 650.

Those figures belong to the providers and rate surveys that published them and were read in October 2026. Visiting tutors in Dubai are published at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour by the Bestimate rate survey, with individual listings reaching AED 500, and monthly in-home packages advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. We publish no price list of our own on these pages. What we do is quote against a named topic after a free trial lesson, with a session estimate attached, so that the quantity is visible as well as the rate.

The quantity is where extended-route families overspend. Extended sets move faster and consolidate less, which produces a very particular cost pattern: nothing for months, then a sudden need for catch-up after two weeks of travel or illness, because the scheme of work met the topic once and did not return. A family that understands this buys in short, targeted bursts. A family that does not buys a weekly slot in October as insurance and pays for thirty sessions to cover work that needed eight.

Second, extended-route spending has a tail. The route exists to prepare students for higher-level Diploma mathematics, and the Diploma years are the most expensive stage of the whole continuum because the specialist pool is thinner again and the exploration carries assessment weight. A two-year budget that stops at the end of MYP 5 is not a budget; it is the first half of one. This page prices both halves, because a family deciding in Year 10 whether to stay on the extended route deserves the real number.

The Dubai backdrop is favourable for once. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not increase for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total, and the emirate added seven new private schools and 16,846 places for the same intake. A frozen fee line plus new capacity means the pressure on a family's education budget this year is demand-side rather than cost-side, and tutoring is usually where the freed money goes.

What follows: why the specialist band exists and what it buys, the arithmetic of a missed fortnight in an extended set, per-topic session estimates, the two-year picture through to higher level, how exam sessions move the market twice a year, whether sharing a tutor works, and what the Ministry of Education equivalency process does and does not require you to buy. Lessons themselves are online, one-to-one, over live video; IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai, and home tutoring is a service we offer only in India.

At a glance

  • Published bands: AED 150-300 qualified online, AED 200-450+ specialist, one provider at 650
  • The extended premium reflects a thinner tutor pool, not a harder hour
  • Extended sets consolidate less, so absence converts directly into catch-up cost
  • Budget the Diploma years as well; they are the expensive half
  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An extended-route family is buying across two programmes rather than one, so the sensible unit of planning is four years rather than a term. Here is what each stage costs in hours and why.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 4 and MYP 5 for most schools

Middle Years Programme, extended mathematics

Extended runs through the same four branches as the standard route and adds content aimed at higher-level Diploma mathematics: harder factorisation, algebraic fractions, function notation and transformations, non-right-angled trigonometry, and more demanding generalisation. The assessment structure is unchanged, with four criteria each marked 0 to 8. The spending driver is pace: content is met once, assessed, and not revisited, so the cost of absence is higher than on any other route in the continuum.

Dubai schools place students into extended sets at different points, usually at the end of Year 9 and on class-test evidence that is largely criterion A. Ask the department when movement between routes is possible, because a student placed up and then struggling on criterion B is a common and avoidable expense in this city.

Diploma Analysis and Approaches, higher level

The destination the extended route is built for, and the most expensive tutoring stage in the continuum. Published specialist bands in this market run from AED 200 to AED 450 and above for International Baccalaureate work, and higher-level work sits at the top of that range because fewer tutors teach it confidently. The internal assessment is a single mathematical exploration written entirely by the student, which means supervision is coaching rather than content delivery and is bought in bounded blocks.

Course requirements at UAE and overseas universities are published per programme, and some engineering and economics degrees specify this route or this level. Read two target courses in Year 10 while the extended decision is live, because the cost of continuing on extended is only justified if the Diploma route actually requires it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Applications and Interpretation

The alternative Diploma course, and the reason some extended-route families are overspending. A student who completes extended mathematics and then takes Applications and Interpretation has paid for two years of additional algebra and trigonometry the Diploma course does not require. That is a legitimate choice if the student wanted the stretch, and an expensive accident if nobody checked the destination.

In Dubai the route conversation often happens informally, in a corridor, in Year 11. Buying a single diagnostic session at the end of Year 10 to ask whether extended is still the right route for the intended Diploma course is the cheapest decision in this whole budget.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, where a school switches

Some Dubai schools leave the programme at Year 10, and an extended-route student transferring into International GCSE mathematics is typically over-prepared on content and under-prepared on pace. The cost shape changes from blocks against task deadlines to a sustained run of timed past-paper practice, which is more predictable to budget and usually cheaper per mark gained.

Cambridge runs International GCSE in June and November series with six administrative timetable zones, and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used. Entries close months ahead of the papers rather than weeks: the June deadline falls in the spring, well before teaching finishes, and the exact date arrives on the centre's statement of entry. November is the resit route for anyone who misses it. Private candidate entry fees are paid to the centre and belong in the family budget separately from tuition.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Extended briefs are priced by topic, because the topics differ sharply in how hard they are to find a tutor for and how many sessions they take. These are the requests we see from Dubai families, with honest session estimates.

Algebraic fractions

Extended, MYP 4 onwards

Simplifying, adding and solving with algebraic denominators. Four to six sessions for most students, because the obstacle is usually incomplete factorisation rather than the fractions themselves. Hard to self-teach from a textbook, which is why it appears in the specialist band rather than the qualified one.

Function notation and transformations

Extended, MYP 4 and 5

Reading and using function notation, composite ideas, and translating, stretching and reflecting graphs. Three to five sessions. The usual failure is procedural confidence with no mental model of what the notation means, which shows up later as an inability to interpret a transformation in context.

Non-right-angled trigonometry

Extended, MYP 5

Sine and cosine rules, area with the sine formula, and problems in three dimensions. Three to four sessions when the right-angled work is secure, and considerably more when it is not, which is the single most common reason an extended-route quote comes in higher than expected.

Harder factorisation and quadratics

Extended, MYP 4 onwards

Non-unit coefficients, completing the square, the discriminant and the link to graph behaviour. Four to six sessions. This is the load-bearing topic for higher-level Diploma mathematics, so it is the one where a cheap generalist is poor value even though the content looks routine.

Formal generalisation and justification

Criterion B at extended depth

Quadratic and non-linear patterns, proof-adjacent reasoning, and justification tied to the structure of a problem. Four to six sessions and the highest-value purchase on the extended route, because criterion B carries the widest mark range and extended patterns are harder to justify than standard ones.

Extended modelling tasks

Criterion D at extended depth

Model selection and evaluation where more than one model is defensible. Two to four sessions. Extended tasks reward a student who can say why a linear model was rejected in favour of a quadratic one, which is a different skill from computing either.

Pace recovery after absence

Extended, any year

The characteristic extended-route purchase. Two weeks missed in an extended set is typically three to five sessions of catch-up, because the scheme of work met the topic once and moved on. Booked promptly it stays at that; left until the next assessment it compounds into something larger.

Set-placement second opinion

End of MYP 4 or during MYP 5

One session. A specialist reads the four criterion marks and recent tasks and says whether the extended set is the right place for this student and what it would cost in weekly hours to make it comfortable. Families who buy this before committing to a year of weekly support frequently save most of it.

Bridging into higher-level Diploma mathematics

Summer after MYP 5

Fifteen to twenty sessions across a summer, covering the specific gaps between extended Middle Years work and higher-level Analysis and Approaches. Budget it deliberately: the same work bought in the first term of Year 12 competes with five other Diploma subjects and costs more in every sense.

Technology for extended work

MYP 4 to MYP 5

One or two sessions on the permitted graphing calculator and the school's graphing software, focused on window choice, intersections and reading values accurately. Low cost and disproportionate return, since a default screenshot with unlabelled axes loses communication marks on an otherwise strong modelling task.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways extended-route families buy, ordered by how well they match the route's actual cost pattern. The first fits best; the third is the one most often bought by mistake.

Topic blocks with a session estimate attached

Four to six sessions against one named extended topic, quoted as a block with an estimate rather than an open commitment. This matches how extended content actually arrives: in discrete, demanding units that are met once. Algebraic fractions, function transformations and non-right-angled trigonometry are all block-shaped purchases, and the block ends with a cold re-test rather than a judgement.

  • One named topic, four to six sessions, estimate given before booking
  • Ends with a cold re-attempt of the topic set
  • Priced per block so the total is visible at the start
  • The usual best value on the extended route

Pace recovery after an absence

Three to five sessions booked promptly after two weeks away, aimed only at the content the set covered while the student was gone. The whole point is speed: booked within a fortnight it stays small, left until the next assessment it compounds, because extended schemes of work do not return to a topic. Dubai families travelling at half term use this format more than any other.

  • Booked within two weeks of returning, not at the next report
  • Scoped from the set's actual coverage, obtained from the school
  • Three to five sessions in most cases
  • Cheaper than the same content taught twice later

Weekly slot across a term

Predictable and sometimes right, particularly for a student who was placed up and is genuinely behind the set rather than missing one topic. The caution is that a weekly slot bought as insurance in October usually delivers twenty-eight to thirty-two sessions across a year where the evidence called for eight to twelve. Buy it when the diagnosis supports it, not as a default.

  • Right when the student is behind the set broadly, not narrowly
  • Budget nine or ten usable sessions a term, not twelve
  • Review against school-marked tasks at six weeks
  • Avoid as a default purchase on this route

01

Why the specialist band exists, and what the extended premium buys

The published bands in this market are not arbitrary. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, qualified online subject tutors from AED 150 to AED 300, and subject specialists from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with one named provider at AED 650 and visiting tutors at AED 180 to AED 350 per the Bestimate rate survey. The bands separate by supply. Teaching ratio and right-angled trigonometry to a Year 8 class is a widely held skill. Teaching algebraic fractions, function transformations and formal justification to a Year 10 extended set is not.

For an extended brief that scarcity has a practical consequence a parent can test. Ask a prospective tutor to explain, in two minutes, how they would get a student from a correct second-difference calculation to a justified quadratic rule. The answer separates the bands faster than any qualification list. A tutor who answers with a method is worth the specialist rate; one who answers with reassurance is being paid a specialist rate for qualified-band work.

What the premium should buy is threefold: recognition, so that the diagnosis happens in the first session rather than the fourth; sequencing, so that algebraic fractions are not attempted before factorisation is secure; and honesty about hours, so that you are given an estimate rather than a subscription. None of those are functions of where the tutor lives, which is why removing the travel radius matters more on this route than on any other.

The table sets out what we can actually cover, how long matching takes, and what we do if the right specialist is not free. No competitor in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking contact number. Publishing the limit is more useful to you than pretending it does not exist.

The arithmetic of a missed fortnight in an extended set

Every tutoring market talks about falling behind. On the extended route the phrase has a measurable meaning, because the scheme of work is built on the assumption that a topic met once is a topic learned. A standard set returns to proportional reasoning several times a year. An extended set teaches algebraic fractions in a three-week unit, assesses it, and does not come back. A student absent for two of those three weeks has not fallen behind in general; they are missing one specific, load-bearing topic that everything after it quietly assumes.

This produces a cost pattern that surprises families. Nothing is needed for months, and then the need is sharp, specific and urgent. Handled promptly it is three to five sessions on one topic, which is a bounded, affordable purchase. Left until the next reporting point it becomes a diffuse problem across several topics, because the subsequent units were built on the missing one, and the diffuse version takes twice as long to diagnose and considerably longer to fix.

The practical move is to treat absence as a trigger rather than an inconvenience. On returning from travel, ask the department one question: which topics did the set cover and which assessments were set while my child was away. That one email, answered in a line, scopes the catch-up precisely. Without it a tutor spends the first two sessions finding out what was missed, which is the family paying specialist rates for reconnaissance.

The table puts numbers on it. The session figures are what we see in practice on extended briefs in this city, not a formula, and the final column is the part most families do not anticipate: the delay before the hole becomes visible on a report, which is exactly why it gets left.

03

What each extended topic actually costs in sessions

A rate without a quantity is not a price, and extended-route families are quoted rates far more often than quantities. The honest way to buy this work is topic by topic with an estimate attached, because extended content is naturally block-shaped. Algebraic fractions take four to six sessions for most students, and the obstacle is nearly always incomplete factorisation rather than fractions, which means the sequencing matters: attempting the fractions first wastes two sessions.

Function notation and transformations run three to five sessions. Non-right-angled trigonometry runs three to four when the right-angled work is secure and considerably more when it is not, which is the commonest reason an extended quote arrives higher than the parent expected. Harder factorisation and quadratic work, including completing the square and the discriminant, runs four to six and is the single most load-bearing purchase for anyone heading to higher-level Diploma mathematics.

Criterion B justification at extended depth is four to six sessions and the highest-value block on the route, because that criterion carries the widest mark range and extended patterns are harder to justify than standard ones. Extended modelling, where more than one model is defensible, runs two to four. Add them up and the full extended-route need for a student with no inherited gaps is roughly twenty to thirty sessions across two years, not a hundred.

The table gives the estimates with what should prove the block landed. Treat the ranges as planning figures rather than promises: a student with shaky underlying algebra will need the groundwork first, and an honest tutor tells you that at the trial lesson rather than discovering it at session four.

EXTENDED TOPICS, SESSION ESTIMATES AND THE EVIDENCE EACH BLOCK WORKED

04

The two-year number: extended route plus a higher-level Diploma year

  • Extended Middle Years support: roughly 20-30 sessions across two years, bought as blocks
  • Bridging summer into higher level: 15-20 sessions, planned by May
  • A Diploma year of weekly support: 28-32 sessions, plus a bounded exploration block
  • One Year 10 diagnostic session decides whether most of this is needed at all

A budget that stops at the end of MYP 5 is half a budget. The extended route exists to prepare a student for higher-level Diploma mathematics, and the Diploma years are where the real money sits. Published specialist bands for International Baccalaureate work in this market run from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and higher-level work sits towards the top because fewer tutors teach it with confidence. A family making the extended decision in Year 10 should have the four-year picture, not the one-term quote.

The shape, in sessions: extended Middle Years support for a student without inherited gaps is roughly twenty to thirty sessions across MYP 4 and MYP 5, bought as blocks. The bridging summer, if it is needed, is fifteen to twenty. A Diploma year with weekly support is twenty-eight to thirty-two sessions, and exploration coaching is a bounded block of four to six on top. Nobody needs all of that, and a student with secure algebra may need a third of it, but those are the units the arithmetic is built from.

This is also why the single most valuable purchase on this page is a diagnostic session at the end of Year 10. If the intended Diploma course is Applications and Interpretation, two further years of extended content is stretch rather than requirement, and the money is better spent elsewhere. If it is higher-level Analysis and Approaches, the extended route is the cheaper path and the bridging summer may be unnecessary. One session answers a question worth many.

The checkpoint discipline matters more as the sums get larger. Every block we quote carries a stated measure: what should appear on the next school-marked task, or what a cold re-test should show. A plan without a measure has no natural end, which is how a family ends up four years into continuous tutoring without ever having decided to be.

05

Exam sessions move this market twice a year

Tutoring demand in Dubai is not flat, and extended-route families feel the peaks because the specialist pool is small. Two surges dominate. The first builds from January towards the spring examination window and the internal deadlines that precede it. The second is a shorter autumn surge tied to the November board series and to first-term reporting. In both, the 5pm to 7pm Gulf Standard Time slots go first, and the narrower the specialism the earlier they go.

Booking against a deadline rather than a calendar month is therefore both cheaper and more effective. A criterion B block three weeks before a submission does the actual work of building justification. The same block four days out can tidy a draft, which is a worse outcome for more money, since late work displaces other commitments and the market prices that. The task sheet almost always arrives earlier than parents notice it, so the discipline is to diarise the deadline on the day it appears.

Board dates are published by the boards and should be read there. Cambridge runs International GCSE, O Level and International A Level in June and November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones whose timetable version must be used correctly. Those are the two series a UAE candidate can actually sit, and entries for June close in the spring, months before the first paper and before most schools have finished teaching the course, with November standing as the resit. Pearson examines International GCSE in May or June and November, and the dated worked example is worth keeping in front of a family: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so read the live PDF rather than any tutoring page's copy of it.

On International Baccalaureate dates, this project publishes none. The organisation's site returns an error to automated requests, so no session or results date here has been confirmed from the board itself. Treat the May session as the one Dubai schools sit, get the exact windows from your school's coordinator, and be sceptical of any tutoring page that prints an IB examination date without naming where it came from.

Can an extended tutor be shared between two children?

  • Different years cannot usefully share a live session; the same set sometimes can
  • Share the diagnostic and one household file instead
  • Staggered consecutive slots are easier to protect than two separate evenings
  • A near-specialist rate for a group of four is the worst of both models

Families in villa communities ask this constantly, and the honest answer is mostly no, with two useful exceptions. Two students in different programme years are working on different content and usually different criteria, so a shared live session shortchanges both: the younger one watches work they cannot access, the older one waits. Where the children are in the same extended set at the same school, a paired session can work for content teaching, though not for criterion coaching, because the assessed work has to stay individual.

What can genuinely be shared is the diagnostic and the file. A single household review that reads both children's marked work costs less than two separate intakes and produces a plan the family reads once. Staggered slots on the same evening are the other practical economy: two consecutive sessions are far easier for a Dubai household to protect than two commitments on different nights, and protecting the slot is worth more than any discount.

Group classes at tuition centres are the other version of this question. They are cheaper per hour and are a different product: the centre's sequence at a shared pace, with no engagement with your child's task sheet or clarification. For broad revision in an examination year that can be reasonable value. For extended algebra, where the whole difficulty is sequencing against one student's specific gap, it is not.

One thing to avoid: paying specialist rates for a group. If a provider offers extended-route coaching in a group of four at a near-specialist rate, ask how the hour divides and what happens when the four students need different topics, which they will by the second week. Extended content is unforgiving about sequencing, and a shared pace reintroduces exactly the problem the tutoring was bought to solve.

07

Ministry of Education equivalency: what you do not need to buy

Extended-route families planning UAE university applications often ask whether tutoring is needed for the Ministry of Education equivalency process. It is not. Equivalency is an administrative recognition of a certificate against stated requirements, handled through the official channel, and no tutoring provider performs it, guarantees it or speeds it up. Anyone implying otherwise is selling urgency about a regulatory process, which is a thing to walk away from.

The published requirements are worth knowing because they are specific and one ranking competitor states them wrongly. For the British track, students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects at GCSE or International GCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A competitor page stating that UAE candidates must take six International GCSE subjects is simply incorrect on the published rule.

For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the International Baccalaureate there is no points figure we are prepared to publish, because the source we read does not state one. Verify any IB equivalency threshold on the Ministry's own site or with the attestation authority rather than taking it from a tutoring page, including this one.

The table summarises what each track must show and where to verify it. The point of including it on a page about tutoring cost is subtraction: this is a part of the process you do not need to spend money on, and knowing that is worth as much as any rate comparison.

What a premium does not buy, and how lessons are delivered

  • Examiner descriptions without evidence are marketing, not teaching advantage
  • No grade promises, no self-issued ratings, no statistics without n and method
  • Online one-to-one over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years; ask about it

Some things cost more and are worth it: recognition of the problem in the first session, correct sequencing of extended topics, and an estimate of hours you can hold a provider to. Some things cost more and are not. A tutor described as an examiner, where the status cannot be evidenced, is a marketing claim rather than a teaching advantage, and examiner status does not grant access to marking, boundaries or paper content. Any implication otherwise should be treated with scepticism.

Nor does a premium buy an outcome. No honest tutor promises a grade, a points total or a specific improvement, and any provider offering money back against a grade has either published terms that make the promise conditional on things outside your control, or has not thought about it. We publish no grade promise, no star rating of our own invention, and no statistic about our students without the sample size, date and method on the same page.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard the student writes on and a recording the family keeps. IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai; home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. The in-home figures quoted throughout this page are market context for a service we do not sell, published because the question is reasonable and deserves an answer rather than a deflection.

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and that is in your favour when assessing a quote. Individuals providing private lessons need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years to eligible applicants, who include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Working without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the ministry has published no fine schedule, so any specific amount you are quoted is unverified. Since the permit is free, a tutor who lacks one has told you something useful.

Where we tutor

Where extended-route demand comes from in Dubai

Lessons are online, so the community affects the slot and the question rather than the rate. These notes record what extended-route families in each area actually ask us about.

Emirates Hills and Dubai Hills Estate

Strong higher-level Diploma ambitions, so the question here is usually about the bridging summer rather than the current term. Parents arrive with a target university course already in mind.

Al Barsha South and Dubai Science Park

Several continuum campuses with large extended sets, which means assessment weeks collide and the demand for specialist slots peaks in the same fortnight across the area.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Late evenings and frequent travel, so the recurring purchase is pace recovery after absence rather than weekly support. Sessions sit at 7pm or later.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Established programme families comparing extended against standard with a Diploma route already chosen. The useful spend is a single diagnostic session before the Year 10 decision.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Later school runs push extended sessions to 5.30pm, and 90-minute slots are common because algebraic fractions and function work do not fit comfortably into an hour.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

A dense eastern cluster where the programme often runs to Year 11, so extended students here sit the end-of-programme examination more often and book format work earlier.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Set placement is decided in the Year 9 window at several nearby schools, so this area generates most of our set-placement second opinions.

Arabian Ranches and Jumeirah Golf Estates

Households with two or three children in school, where the real question is total spend and whether an extended tutor can be shared between siblings. Usually they cannot, and we say so.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Campuses with large extended sets in the western corridor

Where extended sets are big enough to run as their own class, demand for specialist slots arrives in waves tied to the assessment calendar. Students we support attend these schools; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them.

  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Dwight School Dubai

Schools running the programme through to Year 11

Two-year planning is the norm here and the end-of-programme examination question arises early, which moves extended-route spending earlier in the year than families expect.

Schools where a Year 10 switch is on the table

Extended-route students considering a move to International GCSE change what they are buying: timed paper technique rather than criterion coaching, which is cheaper per mark and more predictable.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Name the extended topic

Algebraic fractions, function transformations, non-right-angled trigonometry, criterion B justification, or catch-up after an absence. Extended work is block-shaped, so naming the topic produces an estimate rather than a subscription, and lets us tell you whether groundwork is needed first.

  2. 02

Ask the school what the set covered

Especially after travel. One email to the department asking which topics and assessments the set covered in your child's absence scopes the catch-up precisely. Without it, the first two sessions are reconnaissance you are paying specialist rates for.

  3. 03

Free 45-minute trial, one per family

A specialist reads marked work with your child present, tests whether the underlying algebra supports the extended topic, and gives a session estimate with a stated measure of success. No card details are taken. If the honest answer is that the set placement should be discussed with the school, you will hear that.

  4. 04

Book the block, not the year

Four to six sessions against the named topic, scheduled three weeks ahead of any related deadline, at a slot the household can protect. Weekly commitments are for students who are behind the set broadly rather than missing one topic, and the diagnosis says which.

  5. 05

Re-test cold, then decide on the next block

Each block ends with a cold attempt at the topic set or a comparison against a school-marked task. Then you decide again, with the four-year picture in view: the Year 10 route question, the bridging summer, and whether the Diploma course you are aiming at actually needs this route.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Quantities, not just rates

Every extended topic on this page carries a session estimate and a test of whether it landed. A rate without a quantity is an open-ended commitment, and extended content is naturally block-shaped, so there is no good reason to sell it as a subscription.

The premium explained rather than asserted

The specialist band exists because the pool able to teach algebraic fractions, function work and formal justification is small, not because the hour is harder to deliver. That is testable in two minutes with one question about getting from a second difference to a justified rule.

Absence treated as a trigger

Extended schemes of work meet a topic once and move on, so two weeks away is three to five sessions if booked promptly and two or three times that if left to the next report. We prioritise pace recovery for precisely that reason.

Coverage and fallback published

The coverage table says what we can staff, how long matching takes and what we do when no specialist is free. No competitor in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, and a published limit is more useful to you than a pretence.

The four-year picture before the Year 10 decision

Extended Middle Years blocks, a bridging summer, a Diploma year and an exploration block are the units this budget is made of. One diagnostic session at the end of Year 10 often removes most of them, if the intended Diploma course does not require the route.

Sourced figures and restrained claims

Every AED band here belongs to the provider or survey named beside it, read October 2026. We claim no regulator or board approval, describe no tutor as an examiner without evidence, promise no grade, and run no home visits in the UAE.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Why am I quoted more for extended maths than for standard?+

Because fewer tutors can teach it well, not because the hour is harder to deliver. Published bands in this market put qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to AED 300 and specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with one provider at AED 650, all read in October 2026. Extended content such as algebraic fractions, function transformations and formal justification narrows the pool sharply. You can test whether a quote is justified in two minutes: ask how the tutor would move a student from a correct second-difference calculation to a justified quadratic rule.

How many sessions does algebraic fractions actually take?+

Four to six for most extended-route students, plus groundwork if factorisation is not secure, which it frequently is not. The dependency is the thing families are not told: algebraic fraction work rests on confident factorisation, and attempting the fractions first wastes two sessions and some confidence. A tutor should say so at the trial lesson rather than discover it in session four. The block should end with a cold set of mixed questions attempted without prompts, which is a clearer test than any amount of in-session agreement that it makes sense now.

My son missed two weeks of his extended set. What does catching up cost?+

Three to five sessions if you book promptly, and roughly double that if you wait for the next report. Extended schemes of work teach a topic in a unit, assess it and do not return, so two weeks away is one specific load-bearing topic missing rather than a general lag. Email the department and ask which topics and assessments the set covered while he was away: that single answer scopes the work precisely. Without it, a specialist spends the first two sessions working out what was missed, at specialist rates.

Is the extended route worth paying for if he will take Applications and Interpretation?+

Probably not as a requirement, though it can be a reasonable stretch if the student wants it. The extended route exists to prepare students for higher-level Analysis and Approaches, and a student heading to Applications and Interpretation has paid for two years of additional algebra and trigonometry the Diploma course does not assume. That is why the single best-value purchase on this page is one diagnostic session at the end of Year 10, with the intended Diploma course named. The answer frequently removes a large part of the planned spend.

What does the bridging summer into higher level cost in sessions?+

Fifteen to twenty sessions for a student coming from the extended route with the usual gaps, covering harder factorisation, algebraic fractions, function notation and transformations, trigonometric identities and formal generalisation. Book it by May, because July and August fill early in the specialist pool. The same work bought in the first term of Year 12 competes with five other Diploma subjects and the extended essay, which makes it slower, less effective and no cheaper. A standard-route student aiming at the same destination needs a longer bridge.

Do extended-route rates rise before the spring examination window?+

Availability tightens rather than headline rates moving, and on a narrow specialism that amounts to the same thing. Demand surges twice: from January towards the spring window and internal deadlines, and more briefly in the autumn around the November board series and first reports. The 5pm to 7pm Gulf Standard Time slots go first and the narrowest specialisms go earliest. Booking a criterion B block three weeks ahead of a submission costs less and achieves more than the same block four days out, which buys tidying rather than teaching.

Can my two children share one extended maths tutor?+

Not a live session, unless they are in the same extended set at the same school, and even then only for content teaching rather than criterion coaching, because assessed work has to stay individual. What can be shared is the diagnostic review and one household file, which costs less than two separate intakes. The other practical economy is staggered consecutive slots on the same evening: far easier for a Dubai household to protect than two commitments on different nights, and protecting the slot is worth more than a discount.

Is a group class a cheaper way to cover extended algebra?+

Cheaper per hour and poorly matched to the problem. Extended content is unforgiving about sequencing, and the whole value of one-to-one here is working the specific gap in the right order for one student. A group of four needs different topics by the second week, at which point the shared pace reintroduces exactly what you were paying to fix. For broad revision in an examination year a class can be reasonable value. If a provider offers extended coaching in a small group at a near-specialist rate, ask how the hour divides.

Should I pay extra for a tutor described as an examiner?+

Only if the status can be evidenced, and even then judge the teaching rather than the title. Examiner status does not grant access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, and it does not predict whether someone can sequence algebraic fractions after factorisation for a Year 10 student. Our position is that we do not describe tutors as examiners for individuals whose current status we cannot evidence. A better question than any credential is the two-minute method question: how would you get this student from a second difference to a justified rule?

Does Extended Mathematics tutoring help with UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

No, and no provider performs or accelerates equivalency for any subject, mathematics included. Equivalency is an administrative recognition handled through the official government channel. The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or International GCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. The American track specifies SAT Math 450 and English via IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT reading and writing 450. We publish no International Baccalaureate points figure, because the source we read states none.

What should be in writing before I pay for an extended block?+

Five things. The named topic and the session estimate. The rate and whether it is per hour or per session. What happens to unused sessions and the notice period for pausing, which matters in a city where families relocate mid-year. Who specifically will teach and what happens if they become unavailable. And the measure of success: what a cold re-test or the next school-marked task should show. A provider who answers all five in writing is keeping records; one who answers in reassurance is not.

How quickly can you find an extended specialist for a weekday evening?+

Two to four working days for extended algebra and function work, three to five for non-right-angled trigonometry, and three to seven for criterion B justification at extended depth, which is the narrowest pool we staff. Pace recovery after an absence is prioritised because delay compounds the cost. Where nothing suitable is free in your preferred slot, we say so and offer a later slot with the right specialist, a sequenced start on the groundwork, or a weekend session, rather than filling the slot with a generalist and letting the mismatch surface later.

Did the Dubai fee freeze make tutoring more expensive this year?+

There is no evidence for that and the mechanism runs the other way. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total, and the emirate added seven schools and 16,846 places. A frozen fee line and new capacity free up discretionary budget, which increases demand for tutoring rather than its cost base. Treat a provider citing rising costs as justification for a higher rate with ordinary scepticism.

What is the total if we support extended maths properly across MYP 4 and MYP 5?+

Roughly twenty to thirty sessions for a student with no inherited gaps, bought as blocks rather than weekly: four to six on algebraic fractions, three to five on functions, three to four on non-right-angled trigonometry, four to six on criterion B justification, two to four on modelling, plus pace recovery as needed. Multiply by whichever published band applies to your chosen provider to get a figure. A student with weak underlying algebra needs groundwork on top, and a student who is broadly behind the set is a different plan altogether.

When would you tell us not to buy extended tutoring at all?+

Three situations come up regularly. The student is coping with the set and the apparent problem is one unit the class also found hard, in which case waiting a fortnight costs nothing. The student is in the wrong set, in which case the conversation is with the school rather than a purchase. Or the student is tired rather than behind, because an extended set plus the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies stream plus activities has filled every evening. We say all three in the trial lesson when the evidence supports them.
