IB Maths Tutor in Al Nahda

Hiring an IB maths tutor in Al Nahda usually starts with a worry: does anyone nearby actually know this course? It is a fair worry, because IB Diploma mathematics is four separate courses and most tutors know one or two of them well. This page shows how to test for the right one in twenty minutes, and says plainly where supply is thin.

  • Matched to AA or AI and to Higher or Standard Level by name
  • Lessons over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • Twenty-minute test tasks you can set any maths tutor
  • Availability stated at the match stage, before any payment

IB & IGCSE in Al Nahda

Four courses, one job title, and where the supply actually fails

The reason an Al Nahda parent struggles to find a maths tutor who seems to know the course is that there is no such thing as the course. IB Diploma mathematics is four distinct syllabuses sharing a timetable line: Analysis and Approaches at Higher and Standard Level, and Applications and Interpretation at Higher and Standard Level. They share five topic areas by name and diverge sharply in emphasis, in papers, in calculator rules and in what the examination rewards. A tutor can be genuinely excellent at one and a poor fit for another.

Supply is uneven in a predictable pattern. Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is the most widely taken course in many Dubai cohorts and the easiest to staff. Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level is well covered. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is tighter, because it needs somebody comfortable with proof, a non-calculator Paper 1 and the extended Paper 3 build. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is the scarcest of the four, because matrices, graph theory and statistical inference in applied form are a specific skill set that few tutors have taught recently.

Al Nahda adds geography to that. The neighbourhood sits across the Dubai-Sharjah boundary, with Dubai-side schools under the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and Sharjah-side schools under the Sharjah Private Education Authority. The Diploma cohorts nearest here sit mainly in Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City, so students travel to school and the tutors who live close by have often never taught the Diploma at all. A filter based on distance from Al Nahda Road therefore returns the wrong kind of shortlist.

What works instead is a filter based on the course plus twenty minutes of testing. The tests are in this page and they require no mathematics from you - you are watching whether a tutor can do a specific thing and whether they say plainly when something is outside what they teach. Ask an AA HL candidate to differentiate from first principles and talk through why it works. Ask an AI candidate to interpret a chi-squared result in the context of data. Ask either to walk through a Paper 3 question as one build rather than four parts. The answers separate people quickly.

IB Gram delivers maths tuition to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the named course and level. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Where the right specialist is not free in your window we say so at the match stage, with the options and a date, rather than placing an AI SL tutor with an AA HL student and letting a term pass before a mock paper explains it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Maths support gets asked for at three points in an IB education, and the scarcity of the right tutor differs at each. Here is where the pool is deep and where it thins.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma mathematics, the four courses

Analysis and Approaches is algebra, functions, proof and calculus led, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation is modelling, statistics and applied technique led, with a calculator permitted throughout. Higher Level in either route adds a third paper worth a fifth of the grade and roughly ninety hours of additional content depth, all of it examined.

Not every school within reach of Al Nahda offers all four courses, and some run AI SL as the default with AA HL by application. If the course your child needs is not timetabled, that is a staffing and numbers constraint set by the school, and it is worth asking the IB coordinator in writing before Year 11 choices are signed.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP mathematics

Four criteria out of eight each: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. The scarce skill here is criterion literacy rather than advanced content. A student fluent in calculation can sit in the 3-4 band on investigating patterns for three reporting cycles without anyone diagnosing why.

Standard and extended MYP maths streams exist in many Dubai schools, and which stream a student is in shapes their Diploma options. Send the four criterion scores rather than the overall grade when you brief a tutor, because the scores are what can be worked on.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE maths as the route into the Diploma

Most Diploma maths students in this catchment arrive from Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 rather than from MYP. Neither covers calculus to the depth Analysis and Approaches assumes from the first weeks, and the gap is specific: differentiation from first principles, radian measure, exact trigonometric values, logarithm laws and the language of proof.

Cambridge now sets a non-calculator paper on both 0580 tiers, which has narrowed one part of that gap for students on that board. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator on both papers, so students arriving from it feel the AA Paper 1 demand more sharply in term one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Within IB mathematics, Al Nahda families name a small number of specific problems. These are the ones that come up most, with a note on how hard each is to staff properly.

Analysis and Approaches HL: proof and Paper 3

Higher Level

Direct proof, contradiction, counterexample and induction, plus the extended scaffolded Paper 3 build. Tight supply, because teaching the shape of a proof is a different skill from teaching the content being proved. This is the request where a geographic filter costs the most.

Analysis and Approaches: non-calculator fluency

HL and SL

Surds, indices, logarithm laws, exact trigonometric values, partial fractions, differentiation by rule. The most trainable thing on the course and the most common October problem for students arriving from a calculator-permitted IGCSE route. Widely available and cheap to fix.

Analysis and Approaches: functions and calculus

HL and SL

Domain, range, composite and inverse functions, transformations, differentiation and integration techniques. Well supplied. The marks lost here are usually in the first third of a paper rather than the last, which a marked paper identifies immediately.

Applications and Interpretation HL: matrices and graph theory

Higher Level

The scarcest content area in all four courses. Matrices, transition models, graph theory and complex numbers in applied form. A tutor who has not taught AI HL recently will be learning it alongside your child, and should say so if asked directly.

Applications and Interpretation: statistical inference

HL and SL

Chi-squared tests for independence, t-tests, correlation and regression, and the interpretation sentence that carries the final mark. Reasonably supplied, but the marks sit in the hypothesis statement and the conclusion in context rather than in the calculator work.

Graphic display calculator fluency

All four courses

Examinable in practice if not by name: numeric solving, intersections, regression models, distribution functions and statistics menus. Almost nobody teaches it methodically, so most students learn it from a classmate and lose minutes a paper to it for two years.

The Mathematics Exploration

All four courses

Worth a fifth of the grade in every course, marked out of 20 across five criteria. Topic screening is the highest-value hour on it. A tutor may teach the criteria, question a draft and mark against the descriptors; a tutor may not write it, choose the topic or supply the mathematics.

Course switching and bridging

Years 11-12

Moving between AA and AI, or between levels, after Year 12 has started. Possible and governed by the school's own internal deadline rather than any public rule. Needs a clear statement of the content to make up, which is a diagnostic job rather than a teaching one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy maths help, separated by what the session is for rather than by length. Most families need the first once and then one of the others.

A course and tier verification session

One session that establishes which of the four courses your child is on, whether it is the right one for their destination, and where their current work sits against it. Produces a written note. Some families discover the real problem is that the course was chosen in Year 11 for the wrong reason, which no amount of weekly tutoring addresses.

  • Confirms the course from the subject block, not from memory
  • Checks the course against the intended university route
  • Includes a short diagnostic at the correct level
  • Written output you keep whoever teaches afterwards

Weekly one-to-one, matched to the course

A fixed slot with the same tutor on Gulf Standard Time over live video, matched to AA or AI and to the level, with the student's own working photographed and annotated during the session. The practice regime follows the course: non-calculator drills for AA, interpretation sentences and calculator discipline for AI.

  • Matched by course and by the component in question
  • Homework marked against the published scheme, not ticked
  • Slots from 15:45 to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time
  • Reviewed against the school's next assessment

Exploration checkpoints, within the honesty rules

Scheduled reviews across Year 12 following the five assessment criteria in order. The student chooses the topic, does the mathematics and writes every word; the tutor screens the topic for viability, questions steps, marks against descriptors and declines to produce any of it.

  • Topic screened for genuine mathematical content first
  • Feedback against criteria A to E by letter
  • No writing, redrafting to completion or supplying mathematics
  • Checkpoints set against the school's internal deadline

01

Twenty minutes of test tasks that identify a real maths specialist

Qualification lists do not distinguish an AA HL specialist from a competent maths graduate, so set tasks instead. Each of these takes a few minutes on a first call, requires nothing from you beyond listening, and produces an answer you can judge. Use them on any maths tutor in Dubai, including ours. What you are watching for is whether the tutor does the specific thing asked, explains while doing it, and says plainly when something is outside their experience.

For an Analysis and Approaches candidate: ask them to differentiate from first principles and explain why the limit process gives the gradient, out loud, as they would to a Year 12. Then ask them to prove a simple statement by contradiction. A tutor who teaches AA does both without hesitation and talks about where students go wrong. A tutor who knows the content but has not taught the course will produce correct mathematics with no teaching commentary at all, which is a different product.

For an Applications and Interpretation candidate: give them a short set of data and ask them to run a chi-squared test for independence, state the hypotheses properly, and write the concluding sentence in the context of the data. The last part is where the marks are and where most tutors stop. Then ask what students most commonly lose marks for in AI Paper 2. An honest answer names rounding too early, units omitted, and conclusions that restate the calculator output.

For either, ask them to walk through a Paper 3 question as a single build rather than four separate parts, explaining how the earlier results feed the later ones. This is the task that most reliably separates Higher Level experience from Standard Level experience. Finally, ask what they would refuse to do on an Exploration. The right answer is explicit: not write it, not redraft it to completion, not choose the topic and not supply the mathematics.

Choosing between the four courses, and why the choice outranks the tutor

Before buying any hours, confirm your child is on the right course, because that decision has more effect on a grade than the identity of a tutor. Analysis and Approaches suits students heading towards engineering, physics, mathematics or a selective economics programme where a calculus prerequisite is stated. Applications and Interpretation suits design, psychology, business, biology and most social sciences. Level then follows the rest of the subject block and the student's capacity, because Higher Level adds a third paper worth a fifth of the grade.

The weightings differ in a way that changes revision priorities. At Standard Level both routes sit two papers worth 40% of the grade each, with the Exploration at 20%. At Higher Level there are three papers - two longer ones at 30% each and the shorter Paper 3 at 20% - plus the same Exploration at 20%. That means an HL student who ignores Paper 3 has written off a fifth of their grade, and Paper 3 is precisely the component most often left until the final term.

The calculator rule is the difference students notice first. AA Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, so algebraic manipulation is examined directly. Every AI paper permits a graphic display calculator, which moves the difficulty from manipulation to selection and interpretation. A student arriving into AA SL from Pearson 4MA1, where a calculator is permitted on both papers, feels this sharply in October - and that single fact explains a large share of the tutoring enquiries we take from this catchment each autumn.

Switching course after Year 12 begins is possible and the window belongs to the school. Ask the IB coordinator in writing for the switch deadline and for a list of the content a student would need to make up. If the destination university route is the reason for the question, check the requirement on that university's own admissions pages rather than relying on a general statement, because requirements are set by programme and revised periodically. Nothing on this page should be treated as a university's requirement.

The graphic display calculator: the examinable skill almost nobody teaches

Every one of the four courses assumes graphic display calculator fluency, and no course teaches it systematically. Students acquire it from a classmate, a teacher's aside or a video, and the result is a two-year drag on their marks that nothing in a report explains. This is one of the easiest things to fix and one of the most reliably neglected, so it is worth asking any prospective tutor how they handle it.

The skills are concrete and listable. Solving an equation numerically when an algebraic route is not required. Finding intersections and using them to answer a question about two models. Running a regression and extracting the coefficients with the right number of significant figures. Using distribution functions rather than tables. Navigating the statistics menus without hunting. Storing an unrounded intermediate value instead of retyping a rounded one, which is where a surprising share of AI marks go.

The course changes which of those matter. AA Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, so an AA student needs the device for Paper 2 and, at Higher Level, Paper 3 - which means fluency matters but non-calculator discipline matters more. An AI student uses the calculator on every paper, so for them it is close to a core skill and deserves two or three dedicated sessions early in Year 12 rather than a scramble before mocks.

A practical point for an Al Nahda family: this is one of the areas where an online lesson is genuinely better than an in-person one, because the tutor can share their screen with an emulator or the student can share theirs and the keystrokes are visible to both. Two people peering at one small handheld screen across a kitchen table is the worst possible arrangement for teaching it, and it is what an in-home session usually amounts to.

Exploration topics that fail, and the hour that prevents it

A fifth of every maths grade comes from the Exploration, and the most expensive mistakes happen before any writing. Marked out of 20 across five criteria, with presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics each carrying their own share, the component rewards a question with real mathematical content that the student genuinely owns. Most of the failures we see in Year 12 drafts from this catchment trace back to the topic rather than to the writing.

The commonest failure is a topic with no mathematics at the right level. A student writes an interesting investigation using arithmetic and a graph, and the use-of-mathematics criterion caps it regardless of how well presented it is. The second is a borrowed topic, where the question comes from a list online and the personal engagement criterion has nothing to reward. The third is a topic that depends on data the student cannot actually obtain, which surfaces three weeks before the deadline.

The fourth is more subtle: a topic so large that the report becomes a survey rather than an investigation. Reflection is impossible when nothing specific was attempted, and reflection plus personal engagement together carry a meaningful share of the marks - the cheapest ones on the component to recover and the ones most often left behind. A narrow question with a real answer scores better than a broad one with a summary.

Screening the topic takes one session and saves a term. Does the question require mathematics from the student's own syllabus or just beyond it? Is there a real model or real data rather than a restatement of someone else's result? Can the student say in one sentence what they are trying to find out, and does the answer matter to them? If all three are yes, the writing is a manageable job. If any is no, change the topic now rather than rescuing it in Year 13.

Bridging into the Diploma from IGCSE or MYP, and when to do it

  • From Cambridge 0580: calculus depth, radian measure, proof language
  • From Pearson 4MA1: all of the above plus non-calculator discipline
  • From MYP: timed papers, method marks, recall without resources
  • Eight to twelve focused hours closes either gap
  • The summer before Year 12 is the right window and the most wasted one

Most Diploma maths students in this catchment arrive from Cambridge IGCSE 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 rather than from MYP, and the gap into Analysis and Approaches is specific rather than general. Neither IGCSE specification covers calculus to the depth AA assumes within its first weeks. The named items are differentiation from first principles, radian measure, exact trigonometric values, logarithm laws, binomial expansion and the vocabulary and structure of proof. That list is closable in eight to twelve focused hours.

The board the student came from changes the emphasis. Cambridge 0580 now sets a non-calculator paper on both tiers, so those students arrive with some hand-arithmetic discipline already built. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator on both papers, so students from that route feel the AA Paper 1 demand much more sharply. Ask which board and tier your child sat before planning any bridging work, because the two routes need different weighting.

Students arriving from MYP have the opposite profile. They have usually met investigation, generalisation and justification - the substance of the investigating patterns criterion - and have less experience of timed written papers, method marks and recall without resources. For them the bridging job is format rather than content: timed practice, showing working for credit, and speed. That is a different eight hours from the IGCSE version.

The right time for either is the summer between Year 11 and Year 12. There is no competing homework, no mandatory-subject load and no commute, and the work sits in a block rather than being squeezed into the two usable windows a term-time week in Al Nahda offers. It is also the most frequently wasted window in the entire Diploma, because nothing is formally due in it and so nobody plans it.

What it costs, and what we say when the right specialist is not free

Published Dubai market rates give an Al Nahda family something checkable to reason from, and each figure here can be verified at its source. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200. Named IB specialists are quoted at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table placing specialist exam-year support in that region. BartyED published AED 650 at the premium end. Budget platforms advertise from around AED 33 to 52 with Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 with EdFlik.

For AA HL and AI HL specifically, the budget band is a poor buy and it is worth saying so rather than leaving a parent to discover it. Proof technique, the Paper 3 build, matrices and graph theory are not things a capable undergraduate has necessarily taught. For non-calculator drilling, basic functions work and homework supervision, the budget band is perfectly reasonable, and a family can sensibly split a budget between the two rather than averaging across everything.

In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel, with Bestimate showing AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors asking AED 200 to 500. For an Al Nahda family that premium buys a tutor selected by willingness to drive to the Sharjah boundary in the evening peak, which is the opposite of the selection criterion this page argues for. All figures above were read in October 2026 and belong to the providers that published them; none is an IB Gram price.

Our availability position, stated before any payment. AI SL and AA SL matches are usually available within a few days. AA HL takes longer, particularly in October and before mocks. AI HL is the scarcest of the four and sometimes carries a genuine wait. In each case you are told at the match stage with three options: a different slot with the right specialist, a tutor with adjacent expertise starting now while we hold the specialist slot, or a wait with a date against it. We will not put an SL tutor with an HL student and hope.

Verification, honesty and what we will not claim

Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-regulated and the position is public. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time through the smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published - Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties - so any figure circulating as the penalty should be treated as unverified, and we publish none. Ask any tutor the permit question, ours included; it costs nothing to hold, so there is no cost reason for an evasive answer.

On regulators: Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described by u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, while Sharjah's answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which u.ae states regulates private education there and which, with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK; Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from any of those bodies, nor from the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing on this page should be read as implying one. We operate no office, centre or branch in the Emirates and send no tutor to a UAE address. We publish no success rate, star rating or student count, because none could be produced with its sample size, date and method if you asked - and research into this market found pages showing two different review scores within one document.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Nahda

Supply and scheduling both shift across this small area. Here is what each part changes for a maths plan.

Al Nahda 1 and 2, Dubai

Apartment-dense around Al Nahda Pond Park and close to the Green Line. Dubai-side schools answer to KHDA. Students at nearby schools can be home by 15:15, which makes a short early drilling block workable here.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

Across the boundary, under Sharjah's own authority, which approves curricula and assessment methods as well as regulating quality. Cross-boundary school journeys give the least predictable arrival times in the catchment.

Al Qusais

South along Damascus Street with a shared school catchment. Diploma students here face the same four-course question and the same evening traffic pattern, so the practical answer is effectively identical.

Al Mamzar

Coastal and villa-heavy, with an established Diploma cohort. Most Higher Level maths requests in this catchment originate here, and they are the hardest to match within any radius.

Al Garhoud and Festival City

South across the airport road, where several Diploma classes sit. Long school days push sessions past 19:30, which rules out most in-home arrangements and makes the evening online slot the dependable one.

Hor Al Anz and Oud Metha

Older Deira and Bur Dubai neighbourhoods, heavily IGCSE and CBSE. Students coming into AA SL from Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 are concentrated here, and the first request is usually non-calculator fluency.

School ecosystem

  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud

Al Nahda, Al Qusais and Oud Metha

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the exact course, not the subject

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, plus the school, the year group and the latest grade. A tutor matched on the word mathematics alone is a coin toss across four different syllabuses.

  2. 02

Check the course against the destination

If a university route is the reason your child is on this course, verify the requirement on that programme's own admissions page. If the course and the destination do not match, that conversation with the IB coordinator comes before any tutoring.

  3. 03

Set the test tasks in the free trial

One lesson with the matched tutor, fee discussed afterwards. Ask for first principles out loud, a proof by contradiction, a chi-squared conclusion in context or a Paper 3 walked as one build, depending on the course. Specificity is what you are judging.

  4. 04

Hear the availability answer before paying

AI SL and AA SL matches are usually quick; AA HL is tighter and AI HL is the scarcest of the four. You are told which applies at the match stage, with a different slot, adjacent expertise or a dated wait as the options.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Four courses, four matches

We match to AA or AI and to the level by name, because a tutor strong on AA HL calculus can be the wrong person for an AI SL regression model. Matching on the subject heading is the most common reason maths tutoring in this city underperforms.

You get the test tasks

The twenty-minute tasks on this page work on any maths tutor in Dubai, ours included. First principles out loud, a proof by contradiction, a chi-squared conclusion, a Paper 3 walked as one build. A page that hands over its own audit is doing something different.

Scarcity named, not hidden

Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is the scarcest of the four courses and sometimes carries a genuine wait. You hear that at the match stage with a date, rather than after a payment and a term of adjacent teaching.

The calculator skill taken seriously

Graphic display calculator fluency is examinable in practice and taught systematically almost nowhere. It is also one of the few things genuinely easier to teach over a shared screen than across a kitchen table, and we give it its own sessions.

A firm line on the Exploration

We screen topics, teach the five criteria and mark drafts against the descriptors. We do not write, redraft to completion, choose topics or supply mathematics. The work is the student's own under IB rules and the risk of a breach falls on them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Nahda: your questions answered

How do I tell whether a maths tutor in Al Nahda knows my child's actual course?+

Set a task rather than reading a profile. For Analysis and Approaches, ask them to differentiate from first principles out loud and explain why the limit gives the gradient, then to prove something by contradiction. For Applications and Interpretation, give them a small data set and ask for a chi-squared test with the hypotheses stated and the conclusion written in context. For either Higher Level course, ask them to walk a Paper 3 question as one build. A specialist teaches while doing it; a generalist produces correct mathematics silently.

Which of the four IB maths courses is hardest to find a tutor for?+

Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, by a clear margin. Matrices, graph theory and statistical inference in applied form are a specific skill set that relatively few tutors have taught recently. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is next, because proof technique and the extended Paper 3 build are different skills from the content they rest on. Both Standard Level courses are comfortably supplied. If your request falls in the scarce group we say so at the match stage, with a date.

My child is on AI SL but wants to study engineering. Is that a problem?+

It may be, and it is worth settling now rather than in Year 13. Engineering programmes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches because of a calculus prerequisite, but requirements are set per programme and revised periodically, so check the admissions page of each university your child is considering rather than relying on any general statement. If a switch is needed, the window belongs to the school: ask the IB coordinator in writing for the switch deadline and for the content that would have to be made up.

Why does AA Paper 1 cause so much trouble in October?+

Because it is sat without a calculator and most students arrive from a route where one was always available. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator on both its papers, so students from that board meet genuine hand-manipulation demands for the first time in Year 12. Surds, index laws, logarithms, exact trigonometric values and clean handling of negatives are all examined directly. It is the most trainable thing on the course: six to ten weeks of short, frequent, marked drills changes Paper 1 performance measurably.

Does graphic display calculator skill really affect a maths grade?+

Noticeably, and it is taught systematically almost nowhere. Students pick the device up from classmates and then lose minutes a paper to hunting through menus, plus marks to rounding an intermediate value instead of storing it. For Applications and Interpretation the calculator is used on every paper, so fluency is close to a core skill and deserves two or three sessions early in Year 12. It is also one of the few topics genuinely easier to teach over a shared screen than in person.

What makes an Exploration topic fail before any writing starts?+

Four things, in rough order of frequency. Mathematics below the level of the course, which caps the use-of-mathematics criterion whatever the presentation. A topic borrowed from a list online, which leaves personal engagement with nothing to reward. Data the student cannot actually obtain, which surfaces weeks before the deadline. And a topic so broad that the report becomes a survey, which makes genuine reflection impossible. One screening session at the start prevents all four and is the best-value hour on the component.

How many hours does bridging from IGCSE into Analysis and Approaches take?+

Eight to twelve focused hours for most students, aimed at a specific list: differentiation from first principles, radian measure, exact trigonometric values, logarithm laws, binomial expansion and the structure of proof. Students from Cambridge 0580 arrive with some non-calculator discipline because that board now sets such a paper on both tiers; students from Pearson 4MA1 generally need more of it. The right window is the summer between Year 11 and Year 12, which is also the most consistently wasted block in the Diploma.

Is a nearby maths tutor ever better than a course-matched one online?+

In two situations. A younger student who needs company and supervision rather than specialist teaching, where presence does most of the work. And a household whose broadband cannot carry a reliable video lesson, in which case a dropping connection is worse than no lesson. For a Year 12 or Year 13 on a named Diploma course, the specialism matters more, and a tutor willing to drive to the Sharjah boundary at peak has been selected for willingness to travel rather than for knowing AA HL.

What does IB maths tutoring cost for a family in Al Nahda?+

Published Dubai market rates, read in October 2026: a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB tuition from AED 200. Named IB specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end. Budget platforms advertise from around AED 33 to 65. In-home visits run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel. We quote against the course, the level and the weeks remaining rather than from a rate card.

Is a budget online tutor acceptable for IB maths?+

For part of the work, yes. Non-calculator drilling, basic functions practice and supervised homework are reasonable uses of the AED 33 to 65 band that Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise. Proof technique, the Paper 3 build, matrices, graph theory and marking an Exploration against descriptors generally are not, because those are things a capable undergraduate has not necessarily taught. Splitting a budget between a cheap drilling slot and a specialist slot for the two or three things that decide the grade usually beats averaging across everything.

How many maths sessions a week should a Diploma student have?+

One is right for a student who is coping and wants to move from a 4 or 5 to a 6, provided the homework between sessions is actually done. Two suits a student with a diagnosed content gap, a Paper 3 problem at Higher Level, or an Exploration running behind the school's internal deadline. Three is an intensive block before mocks rather than a steady arrangement. The question that matters more is how many days pass between the lesson and the work it was meant to fix.

Can a tutor mark my child's Exploration draft?+

Yes, against the published descriptors, and that is one of the more useful things a tutor does. A tutor may screen the topic, question whether a step follows, point out that a graph is unlabelled, mark a draft criterion by criterion and state plainly that a section is below standard. A tutor may not write any part of it, redraft it to completion, choose the topic or supply the mathematics. The work must be the student's own under IB academic-honesty rules, and a breach puts the student's diploma at risk.

Do you send maths tutors to homes in Al Nahda or Al Qusais?+

No. Every UAE lesson we arrange is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service we operate only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the Emirates. For maths specifically the online format loses very little: a shared whiteboard, the student's own working photographed and annotated live, and a screen-shared past paper reproduce what matters, which is watching the working appear line by line and stopping at the wrong line.

What happens if no AA HL or AI HL specialist is free in our slot?+

You hear it at the match stage, before any payment, with three options. A different time slot with the right specialist, which usually means shifting an hour earlier or later in the Gulf evening. A tutor with adjacent expertise starting now while we hold the specialist slot for you. Or a wait with a date attached, so you can decide rather than guess. Demand concentrates in the same two evening hours and fills in October and before mocks, so sometimes the honest answer is a wait.

Name the course, then test the tutor

If you are looking for an IB maths tutor in Al Nahda, two things decide the outcome and neither is distance. The first is which of the four Diploma maths courses your child sits and whether it matches where they are heading - check that on the university's own admissions page and with the IB coordinator. The second is twenty minutes of test tasks put to whoever is on your shortlist, including us: first principles out loud, a proof by contradiction, a chi-squared conclusion in context, a Paper 3 walked as one build. Send the course, the level and your two workable windows, and the first lesson is a free trial with the matched tutor, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
