IB Maths Tutor in Al Mamzar

Typing "IB maths tutor" with Al Mamzar attached is really a question about supply: is anyone within a short drive of the Corniche towers teaching Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and do they know it well enough to mark a Paper 3 answer? The honest answer is that the pool inside a fifteen-minute radius of Al Mamzar is small. IB Gram solves it differently, by matching one Mathematics specialist per course and teaching the hour live over video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • One specialist per course: AA and AI are matched separately
  • Paper 1, 2 and 3 practice marked against published command terms
  • Exploration coaching that keeps the maths the student's own
  • A free trial lesson before any payment is taken

IB & IGCSE in Al Mamzar

Al Mamzar's maths problem is a supply problem before it is a teaching one

Al Mamzar sits at the top of the Deira peninsula, with the Corniche on one side and the Sharjah border a few minutes up Al Ittihad Road. It is a residential pocket of mid-rise towers and older villas, and the families in it send children to schools spread across Al Garhoud, Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Mirdif. Very few of those schools run the full IB Diploma, which means a Diploma student living in Al Mamzar is usually travelling to reach their course in the first place. The tutoring question inherits that geography.

IB Mathematics narrows the pool again. There are two separate courses, Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each sat at Standard or Higher Level, so a school year group splits four ways before anyone talks about tuition. A tutor who is strong on Applications statistics may have never taught the Maclaurin series work that sits only in Analysis Higher Level. A parent who books on proximity alone is choosing from whoever lives nearby rather than from whoever teaches the course their child is actually entered for.

That is the reason this page answers the supply question first and the teaching question second. Searching for a maths tutor near Al Mamzar returns listings, not availability, and almost none of them say which of the four IB Mathematics routes they can take to Higher Level. The single most useful thing a parent can do before paying anybody is to find out from the school which course code their child is entered for, then insist the tutor names the same one back.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Al Mamzar or anywhere else in the UAE; visiting tutors are a service offered only in India. Lessons here run live, one-to-one, over video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own graphic display calculator on screen. That is not a compromise forced by logistics. It is what lets an Al Mamzar family book the person who marks Analysis HL explorations rather than the person who happens to live two streets away.

The rest of this page is the detail a parent needs to judge a maths tutor rather than hire one on faith: how the two courses differ, what each paper is worth, the topics where Deira students reliably drop marks, the five criteria an exploration is marked against, the shape of the assessment year counted backwards, and what the Dubai market charges per hour in AED. None of it is a sales argument. All of it is checkable against the school, the course outline or a published source, and a parent who reads only the two tables will still know more about IB Mathematics than most tutoring enquiries begin with.

At a glance

  • Two courses, four routes: AA SL, AA HL, AI SL, AI HL - the tutor must match the entry
  • Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level and carries 20% of the grade
  • The exploration is 20% of the final mark in every IB Mathematics course
  • Market rates for specialist IB maths tuition in Dubai run roughly AED 200-450 per hour
  • Lessons are delivered live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • No tutor visits an Al Mamzar address; home visits are an India-only service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Mamzar enquiry about maths arrives at one of three points: a Middle Years student whose numeracy is slipping, a Diploma student in the middle of a course they may have mis-chosen, or a Year 11 student deciding between the two Diploma routes. Each needs a different tutor.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Mathematics

MYP Mathematics is marked against four criteria, each on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. There is no single final exam driving the grade, so a student can hold a solid 5 while carrying gaps in algebraic fluency that only surface in Diploma year one. The fix at this stage is almost always procedural: index laws, fraction arithmetic, rearranging, and reading a question for the command term before starting.

Al Mamzar families often use MYP 4 and 5 as the window to repair numeracy before a Diploma choice has to be made. Several schools in the Al Qusais and Al Nahda belt run MYP alongside an IGCSE pathway, so a student may sit criterion-marked tasks and externally marked papers in the same year. A tutor needs to know which of the two is driving the report grade before planning anything.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and calculus-heavy route. At Higher Level it adds complex numbers, vectors in three dimensions, proof by induction, Maclaurin series and differential equations solved by separation of variables or an integrating factor. Standard Level keeps the same five topic areas but stops well short of that depth. This is the course most engineering, physics, computer science and mathematics degrees expect, and it is the one where a weak algebraic base shows up fastest.

Diploma students from Al Mamzar sitting AA HL are typically at schools in Al Garhoud or Mirdif, and are competing for the same places as the rest of the Dubai cohort. Admissions pages at the UAE's own universities and at the UK and North American destinations Dubai families apply to generally name Analysis and Approaches where a maths prerequisite exists. Confirm the exact wording on the department's page rather than relying on a school's summary.

AIAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling, statistics and technology. The graphic display calculator is assumed throughout, including in Paper 1, which is the clearest structural difference from Analysis. Higher Level adds matrices, graph theory, Markov chains and a far heavier statistical inference load. Students who are competent but not instinctive with algebra often perform better here, and the course suits business, economics, psychology, design and geography routes.

Applications is the quieter of the two courses in Deira school timetables, which makes it harder to find local help for: a neighbourhood tutor is statistically more likely to have taught Analysis. Al Mamzar families on the Applications route are the ones for whom a wider, non-local specialist pool matters most, because the course's graph-theory and Markov-chain content at Higher Level is genuinely specialist.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is the page's subject, but the sitting is rarely isolated. These are the courses an Al Mamzar maths enquiry most often sits beside, each matched to its own specialist rather than bundled into one booking.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Five topic areas: number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, calculus. Marks are lost most often in calculus technique at HL and in trigonometric identities at SL. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which punishes students who have learned every method through the screen.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics led, with calculator use assumed in both papers. HL adds matrices, eigenvalues, graph theory and Markov chains. The common failure is interpretation rather than computation: a correct regression output described in a sentence that does not answer the question asked.

MYP Mathematics

MYP 1-5, standard and extended

Four criteria at 0-8 each. Criterion B, investigating patterns, is where most marks are quietly dropped, because students describe a pattern instead of generalising and then verifying it. Extended mathematics in MYP 4-5 is the usual on-ramp to Analysis and Approaches.

Physics

HL and SL

Physics and AA HL are taken together constantly, and the maths failure usually arrives first. Students who cannot rearrange a formula under time pressure lose Physics marks that have nothing to do with physics. Shared tuition planning across the two subjects is worth more than extra hours in either.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The quantitative sections - energetics, equilibrium constants, pH and buffer calculations - sit directly on the algebra an AA or AI student is already practising. Logarithms in pH work are the single most common crossover gap for Diploma students in Deira schools.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level Economics carries quantitative questions on elasticity, market structures and national accounts arithmetic. Applications and Interpretation students pair with it naturally; Analysis students sometimes find the diagram-plus-explanation format harder than the calculation itself.

Business Management

HL and SL

Finance and accounts, with ratio work, break-even analysis and investment appraisal. The arithmetic is light but the interpretation is marked hard, and the HL toolkit carries techniques that reward a student comfortable with the statistics side of Applications.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Logic, algorithmic thinking and the internal assessment solution. Students strong in Analysis HL often take it, and the paper-based pseudocode questions reward exactly the stepwise discipline that calculus technique builds.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

Mathematics is one of the areas of knowledge and turns up in essay prompts about certainty and proof. A maths tutor can supply worked examples a student can legitimately use, while the essay itself stays entirely the student's own writing.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Maths tuition fails more often from the wrong shape than the wrong tutor. These are the three patterns that work for a Diploma or MYP maths student in this part of Dubai, and the signals that tell you which one you need.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

A single fixed hour a week, same tutor, running alongside the school's scheme of work. This is the shape for a student who is coping but not secure, and it is the only one that reliably closes algebraic gaps, because fluency is built by repetition over months rather than by intensity over a fortnight.

  • One hour weekly, same slot, same tutor through both Diploma years
  • Topic order follows the school's sequence, not a generic syllabus march
  • Non-calculator Paper 1 technique practised deliberately, every few weeks
  • A short written note to the parent after each session

Exploration coaching, bounded

A short block of sessions around the mathematical exploration, built around the five published criteria. The tutor teaches the mathematics the student has chosen to use, questions whether the aim is answerable, and gives feedback on drafts in the way the IB permits. The student does every piece of the writing and every calculation themselves.

  • Four to six sessions, usually across DP1 term three and DP2 term one
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback, with the criterion letter named each time
  • Help choosing mathematics at the right level for the course entered
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied calculations

Paper-technique intensive before the May session

A concentrated run of sessions in the final term aimed at marks rather than content. Full papers under time, marked against the published command terms, with the error log driving the next session. It works only for a student whose content base is already there; it cannot substitute for the year.

  • Timed Paper 1 and Paper 2 sets, plus Paper 3 at Higher Level
  • Marking that separates method marks from answer marks explicitly
  • An error log kept across sessions, grouped by cause not by topic
  • Calculator-efficiency drilling for the papers that permit one

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mamzar

01

What a search for an IB maths tutor in Al Mamzar is actually asking

The literal answer: there is no large pool of IB Mathematics specialists living in Al Mamzar, and a parent who restricts the search to a fifteen-minute radius is choosing from a handful of people, most of whom teach a different curriculum. An IB maths tutor in Al Mamzar is best found by course rather than by location, and taught live over video, which is how IB Gram delivers every UAE booking.

The arithmetic is simple enough to do on paper. Dubai has 227 private schools across seventeen curricula, and the International Baccalaureate accounts for roughly 7% of private-school enrolment in the emirate. Of the schools near Al Mamzar, only a small number run the Diploma. Now split Diploma mathematics into four separate entries - Analysis SL, Analysis HL, Applications SL, Applications HL - and the number of people within a short drive who have actually taught your child's specific entry to its ceiling drops close to zero.

That is not a reason to give up on quality; it is a reason to stop using distance as the filter. The thing that changes a maths grade is a tutor who has marked the paper your child will sit, knows which command terms carry method marks, and can tell within two sessions whether the problem is content, technique or arithmetic confidence. None of those properties correlate with where the tutor parks.

So the honest framing for an Al Mamzar family is this: you are not looking for a neighbour. You are looking for a Mathematics specialist who is free at the hour your child is home and awake, which in this neighbourhood usually means after 4.30pm on a school day and sometimes after 7pm when a parent is driving back from Sharjah. Online delivery makes that hour the constraint instead of the traffic.

02

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that decides the tutor

Before a single hour is booked, establish which of the two IB Mathematics courses your child is entered for and at which level. The two are not harder and easier versions of one subject; they are different subjects with a shared name. A tutor matched to the wrong one will be confident, pleasant and of limited use.

Analysis and Approaches rewards algebraic fluency and sustained calculus technique. Its Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, so a student who has learned every method by typing it into a screen is exposed immediately. Higher Level adds proof by induction, complex numbers in polar and Euler form, vector equations of lines and planes, Maclaurin series and differential equations. Those topics are where the HL grade is won and lost, and they are the topics a general maths tutor is least likely to have taught recently.

Applications and Interpretation assumes technology throughout and leans on modelling and statistics. At Higher Level it carries matrices and eigenvalues, graph theory, and Markov chains, plus a much heavier inferential statistics load including chi-squared and t-tests. Students lose marks here less often on the calculation than on the sentence afterwards: a regression line correctly found and then described in words that do not answer the question posed.

For a student in DP1 who suspects they chose wrong, the window to move is narrow and controlled by the school's coordinator, not by the IB directly. Raise it early in the first year rather than late in the second, and bring evidence: marked work, not a feeling. A tutor's job at that point is to tell you honestly whether the student is struggling with the course or with mathematics, which are different diagnoses with different answers.

How IB Mathematics is assessed, paper by paper

Every IB Mathematics grade is built from external papers plus one internally assessed exploration worth a fifth of the total. Knowing the split matters because it tells you where an hour of tuition buys the most. A student two marks off a boundary in May did not lose those marks evenly across the course.

At Standard Level there are two papers. Paper 1 and Paper 2 each carry 40% of the grade, and the exploration carries the remaining 20%. At Higher Level there are three papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 each carry 30%, Paper 3 carries 20%, and the exploration again carries 20%. Paper 3 is the component that does not exist at Standard Level at all, and it is the one students meet least often in practice, because it is built from two long extended-response problems rather than a spread of shorter questions.

That structure has a direct tuition consequence. A Higher Level student who has done thirty short questions a week all year may still be unprepared for Paper 3, because the skill it tests is sustaining a single argument across twenty-plus marks, carrying a result forward, and recognising when the question is scaffolding a method it expects you to have noticed. Practising it requires whole problems under time, not question banks.

The exploration sits outside all of that and is marked by the school against IB criteria, then moderated. It is the one component where a student has months rather than two hours, and the one most often left until the deadline forces a rushed choice of topic. On a mark-per-hour basis, it is the best-value component on the course, and the easiest to damage by getting help of the wrong kind.

Where Deira-schooled students lose IB maths marks, topic by topic

  • Indices and surds: the most common single source of avoidable mark loss
  • Trigonometric equations: finding one root and stopping
  • Integration: choosing the wrong technique and committing to it
  • Applications statistics: a correct test with a conclusion that answers nothing
  • Non-calculator fluency in Analysis Paper 1, eroded by screen-based practice

Patterns repeat across a cohort, and in the Deira and Al Qusais schools the pattern is usually a procedural one carried up from the middle years rather than a conceptual failure in the Diploma itself. A student can understand differentiation perfectly and still lose four marks because they cannot handle a negative fractional index cleanly at speed.

The first cluster is algebraic manipulation: index laws, surds, partial fractions, and rearranging a formula with the unknown appearing twice. These are MYP and IGCSE skills, and when they are shaky every later topic costs more time than it should. The second cluster is trigonometry, specifically identities and solving equations over a given interval, where students find one solution and lose the marks attached to the rest.

The third is calculus technique at Higher Level, especially integration by substitution and by parts, and recognising which is called for. The fourth is statistics in Applications: students run the right test on the calculator and then write a conclusion that states the arithmetic rather than answering the question about the context. The fifth is the non-calculator paper itself for Analysis students, where a year of screen-based practice shows up as slowness rather than error.

A first diagnostic session should separate those causes rather than reteach a topic. The useful output is a short list: this student loses marks to indices, to interval solutions in trigonometry, and to interpretation sentences. That list then drives every subsequent hour, and it is the difference between tuition that moves a grade and tuition that pleasantly revisits the week's lesson.

05

The mathematical exploration: five criteria and the line a tutor may not cross

The exploration is marked against five criteria, and most students can name none of them. Criterion A covers presentation and coherence. Criterion B covers mathematical communication, including correct notation and consistent definitions. Criterion C covers personal engagement. Criterion D covers reflection. Criterion E, worth the largest share, covers the use of mathematics, judged against the level of the course the student is entered for.

Criterion E is where the grade is usually decided, and it is where a sensible-looking project fails. An Analysis Higher Level student who builds a careful piece of work around fitting a straight line to some data has not used mathematics commensurate with the course. An Applications Standard Level student who attempts something at degree level and does not understand it loses marks for a different reason. Choosing mathematics at the right altitude is the single most consequential decision in the whole component, and it is made in the first fortnight.

The boundary on help is firm and worth stating plainly. A tutor may teach any mathematics the student wants to use, discuss whether an aim is answerable, ask whether a definition is being used consistently, point at a criterion by letter, and give feedback on a draft. A tutor never writes the exploration, does not produce the calculations, does not edit the prose to completion, and does not supply a topic the student then adopts wholesale. IB academic-honesty rules make the first of those a malpractice question for the student, which is a far larger problem than a disappointing mark.

The practical sequence that works: pick a question narrow enough to answer in twelve to twenty pages, check the mathematics needed is at course level, do the mathematics, then write. Students who write first and insert mathematics afterwards tend to score well on presentation and badly on criterion E, which is the wrong trade.

WHAT THE EXPLORATION IS MARKED ON, AND WHAT HELP IS PERMITTED
CriterionWhat it rewardsCommon failureWhat a tutor may do
A - PresentationA coherent, organised, readable pieceA narrative with no structure or signpostingComment on structure; the student rewrites it
B - Mathematical communicationCorrect notation, defined variables, suitable formsMixing notation, undefined symbols, unlabelled graphsTeach the notation convention and point out inconsistency
C - Personal engagementGenuine independent thinking, not enthusiasmA borrowed topic described in the first personAsk questions until the student's own angle emerges
D - ReflectionCritical evaluation of method and resultA closing paragraph saying it was interestingAsk what the limitation was; the student answers in writing
E - Use of mathematicsMathematics at the level of the course, used correctlyMathematics well below or well above the courseTeach the mathematics; never produce the student's working
06

The IB maths year, counted backwards from the May session

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May examination session, and the school's internal calendar is what actually governs a student's year. Working backwards from May rather than forwards from September changes what a parent books and when. The IB's own exam and results dates should be confirmed with the school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org before anybody plans around them; the dates that matter most to a maths student are set inside the school anyway.

Roughly eighteen months out, in DP1, the exploration topic should be settled. Twelve months out the exploration should be substantially done, because the final year's teaching load does not leave room for it. Six to eight months out, mock examinations arrive, and they are the first honest read on paper technique under time. Three months out is the last point at which a content gap can be closed without cannibalising revision. Four weeks out, the only sensible work is timed papers and the error log.

The most common planning mistake made in Deira households is booking tuition in the final term for a problem that was visible in DP1. A student who was dropping indices marks in the first mock is still dropping them in April unless somebody addressed it specifically, and April has no spare hours. The second most common is pausing tuition over the summer between the two Diploma years, which is exactly when the exploration can be finished calmly.

Cambridge and Pearson qualifications sitting alongside the Diploma run on different calendars worth knowing if a younger sibling is involved: Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE centres, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The February/March Cambridge series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate sitting in Dubai.

What maths tuition costs around Al Mamzar, in AED

Start with the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the number a household budget actually meets. Bestimate's Dubai tutoring rate research puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A two-year Diploma maths commitment at one hour a week therefore sits in a range most families can plan for, and the exam-year spike is predictable rather than a surprise.

Converted to hours, the Dubai market bands are reasonably consistent across published sources. EdFlik advertises online tutoring from around AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33-52, both at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist work, and Bestimate's specialist band runs AED 200-450 and upwards. At the top, BartyED advertises AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Monthly packages seen in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

The gap between those two package figures is the travel premium, and it is worth naming for what it buys: a person in the room, and a tutor pool limited to whoever can reach your building. For a specialist Analysis Higher Level entry in Al Mamzar, that is a poor trade, which is why IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE and puts the whole budget into the match instead. Home visiting is a service offered only in India.

These figures are the market, cited from the sources named and read in October 2026, not a price list for IB Gram. Our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many hours the diagnosis actually justifies, which is often fewer than a parent expects at the start of DP1 and more than they expect in DP2.

Verifying a maths tutor from Al Mamzar: permits, claims and three questions

  • Ask for the course and level by name: "Analysis and Approaches HL", not "IB maths"
  • Ask how method marks and answer marks are reported back to you
  • Ask what the tutor will refuse to do with the exploration
  • Confirm the permit position rather than accepting a claim of accreditation
  • Fix the hour in Gulf Standard Time and agree a rescheduling rule in advance

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private lessons without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you as fact. The application route is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service.

Regulators matter in the other direction too. Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises. IB Gram does not hold one and makes no claim of approval, accreditation or partnership with KHDA, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Any tutoring service that implies otherwise is worth questioning.

Three questions settle most of it. First: which IB Mathematics course and level have you taught to final examinations, named exactly? Second: how will you mark a Paper 1 answer, and will you show me the method marks separately from the answer mark? Third: what will you not do with the exploration? A tutor who answers the third one crisply and unprompted is usually the one worth booking.

Add one practical check for an Al Mamzar household. Ask for the hour in Gulf Standard Time, in writing, and ask what happens when it is missed. A specialist booked at a time that collides with the drive back from Sharjah is a specialist you will cancel on, and a cancelled hour teaches nobody anything.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Mamzar

Al Mamzar's Diploma population is spread thin, so maths bookings cluster by school rather than by street. These are the neighbourhoods the same tutors serve, and they matter because a student's course entry follows the school, not the postcode.

Al Mamzar

Corniche towers, the beach park and a strip of older villas towards Abu Hail. Mostly a commuter neighbourhood for schools elsewhere; a Diploma student here is rarely at a school within walking distance.

Hor Al Anz

Dense flats either side of Abu Baker Al Siddique Road, well served by the Red Line. Large Indian and Arab resident populations and a strong preference for evening sessions after 6pm.

Abu Hail

Between Al Mamzar and the Deira interior, with its own metro station. Families here often have children in two different curricula at once, which complicates a single maths booking.

Al Qusais

A heavy concentration of private schools along Damascus Street and the Al Nahda border. Several run MYP, which is why MYP maths requests from this side of Deira outnumber Diploma ones.

Al Garhoud

The nearest genuine IB Diploma cluster to Al Mamzar, roughly fifteen to twenty-five minutes by car depending on the airport tunnel. Most Al Mamzar Diploma maths students are enrolled here.

Al Nahda

Straddling the Sharjah boundary, which means an evening session booked for 5pm can collide with a parent still on Al Ittihad Road. Later start times are the norm rather than the exception.

Mirdif

Villa communities with a mix of British and IB provision, reached from Al Mamzar via Al Khawaneej Road. The commute is the reason Mirdif-schooled students in Al Mamzar often want weekend maths sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mamzar

The Al Garhoud and airport-side IB cluster

The closest schools to Al Mamzar offering the Diploma or a Diploma pathway. A student entered for Analysis HL is most likely sitting it at one of these, and their internal deadlines for the exploration will be set here rather than by the IB.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the entry, not just the subject

The first message that helps names the course and level - Analysis HL, Applications SL - plus the school, the year group and the hour that genuinely works on a school day in Al Mamzar. A subject name alone sends the request to the wrong half of the maths pool.

  2. 02

    A diagnostic hour, free

The trial lesson is a diagnosis rather than a sample lesson. The tutor sets work that separates content gaps from technique gaps from arithmetic confidence, and writes back with the short list. If the diagnosis says fewer hours than you expected, that is what you are told.

Agree the plan against the school's calendar

Mock dates, exploration deadlines and the school's teaching order decide the plan, not a generic syllabus march. For a DP1 student that usually means exploration work in term three; for a DP2 student it means paper technique from the first mock onwards.

  4. 04

Fix the hour and keep it

One slot, same tutor, in Gulf Standard Time, chosen to survive a normal Al Mamzar weekday rather than an ideal one. Later starts are standard here. Sessions run live over video with a shared whiteboard and the student's own calculator visible on screen.

  5. 05

    Review against marks, not impressions

Every few weeks the error log and the last marked paper decide whether the plan holds. If a tutor is not the right match for the course, we say so and change the tutor rather than adding hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the course, not the postcode

An Analysis Higher Level request goes to someone who has taught Analysis Higher Level to examinations. In a neighbourhood where the local specialist pool for a specific IB Mathematics entry is close to empty, that is the whole of the argument for teaching online.

Paper technique marked, not described

Answers come back with method marks and answer marks separated, so a student can see that a correct final value scored two of five. That distinction is invisible in most homework help and it is where Diploma maths grades actually move.

A stated boundary on coursework

A tutor teaches mathematics, questions an aim, and gives feedback against a named criterion. A tutor never writes an exploration or produces a student's calculations. The boundary is published here because the alternative puts a student's diploma at risk.

Figures with their sources attached

Every AED band on this page carries the name of whoever published it and the month it was read. No invented statistics, no satisfaction percentages, no self-awarded ratings - if a number cannot be sourced, it is not on the page.

Scheduled for a real Deira weekday

Sessions are booked to the half hour after school transport actually arrives, with later slots available for families crossing the Sharjah boundary. A plan that assumes a 4pm start in Al Mamzar is a plan that gets cancelled.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mamzar: your questions answered

Is there an IB maths tutor actually based near Al Mamzar?+

Very few, and that is the honest answer. Al Mamzar is largely residential, the nearest Diploma schools are in the Al Garhoud cluster, and IB Mathematics splits into four separate entries across two courses and two levels. The number of people within a short drive who have taught your child's exact entry to final examinations is close to zero. IB Gram does not place tutors at UAE addresses at all; lessons run live one-to-one over video, which means the match is made on course expertise and availability at your hour rather than on driving distance.

Should my child take Mathematics AA or AI if they want to study engineering?+

Engineering departments generally name Analysis and Approaches where a mathematics prerequisite is listed, because the course carries the calculus and algebraic technique the first year of a degree assumes. Check the exact wording on the department's own admissions page rather than a school summary, since requirements differ between institutions and between countries. If your child is competent but not fluent algebraically, the harder question is Analysis at Standard or Higher Level, and that is a conversation to have with marked work in front of you rather than on instinct.

How many marks is Paper 3 worth in IB Mathematics HL?+

Paper 3 carries 20% of the Higher Level grade and does not exist at Standard Level. It is built from two long extended-response problems rather than a spread of shorter questions, which makes it the component students practise least and find most unfamiliar. The skill it tests is sustaining one argument across twenty or more marks, carrying results forward, and spotting that an early part was scaffolding for a later one. Preparing for it needs whole problems under timed conditions; question banks of short items do not develop the same stamina.

My son is getting 4s in Mathematics AA SL at a Deira school. What usually moves that?+

In that band the cause is normally procedural rather than conceptual. The repeat offenders are index laws, surds, rearranging a formula where the unknown appears twice, and trigonometric equations where one solution is found and the rest are left. A first session should separate those causes rather than reteach the week's topic, and produce a short written list of what this specific student loses marks to. That list then drives every later hour. Expect movement over a term of consistent weekly work, not over a fortnight of intensive sessions.

Where exactly is the line on help with the IB mathematical exploration?+

Yes, and the boundary is worth stating. A tutor may teach any mathematics the student wants to use, discuss whether the aim is answerable, check that notation and definitions are consistent, point at a criterion by its letter, and give feedback on a draft. A tutor never writes the exploration, never produces the calculations, and never edits the prose to completion. IB academic-honesty rules treat supplied work as a malpractice matter for the student, so the risk of getting this wrong falls on your child rather than on the tutor.

Which graphic display calculator does my child need for IB Mathematics?+

The school decides, and it matters more than parents expect, because fluency is model-specific. Ask the department which models they teach and permit, then make sure the tutor works on the same one; a student who learns a menu path on one calculator loses time hunting for it on another under examination pressure. Applications and Interpretation assumes calculator use in both papers, so the fluency requirement is higher there. Analysis students need the opposite discipline too: deliberate non-calculator practice, because Paper 1 permits no technology at all.

How many hours a week of IB maths tuition is sensible in DP1?+

One hour a week is the usual starting point in the first Diploma year, and for most students it is enough. The first year's job is closing procedural gaps and getting the exploration topic settled, both of which respond to consistency rather than volume. Two hours is justified where a student has moved curriculum recently, is taking Higher Level with a weak algebraic base, or is carrying Physics and Mathematics Higher Level together. Adding hours before a diagnosis has identified a specific cause usually buys pleasant revision rather than movement in a grade.

Is Mathematics AI HL accepted by UAE universities for an economics degree?+

Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is designed with exactly those routes in mind - economics, business, psychology, geography and design - and its statistical content maps well onto a first-year quantitative methods course. Individual departments, however, set their own prerequisites and some economics programmes still name Analysis. Read the department's published entry requirements directly and confirm them with the admissions office rather than relying on a general statement, because the answer varies by institution and can change between intakes.

What does an online IB maths lesson for an Al Mamzar student actually look like?+

A fixed hour in Gulf Standard Time, live, one tutor and one student, on a shared whiteboard both can write on. The student's graphic display calculator is visible on screen so key sequences can be corrected in real time, and work is photographed or shared beforehand so the tutor arrives knowing what went wrong. Sessions end with a short note to the parent naming what was covered and what was set. Nothing is pre-recorded, and no tutor travels to an Al Mamzar address; home visits are a service offered only in India.

My daughter moved from MYP into Mathematics AA HL and is drowning. Can she change level?+

Possibly, and the window is narrow. Level changes are controlled by the school's Diploma coordinator and are far easier early in DP1 than late in DP2, so raise it in the first term rather than after the first mock. Bring marked work rather than a description of how it feels. The underlying issue after an MYP course is often algebraic fluency rather than ability, because criterion-marked tasks can mask procedural gaps that an Analysis Higher Level paper exposes immediately. A diagnostic session should tell you which of the two you are dealing with.

Do maths tutors working with Dubai students need a MoHRE permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years and is open to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific figure you are quoted with caution. Applications go through MoHRE's private tutor licensing service.

What do maths tutors charge per hour around Deira and Al Mamzar?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 split into bands. Tutopiya advertises from around AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65 at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes about AED 270, Bestimate puts specialist work at AED 200-450 and above, and BartyED advertises AED 650 for a premium named tutor. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180-500. Those are market figures from the sources named, not IB Gram's own prices.

When should an IB maths exploration be started?+

Topic settled by roughly eighteen months before the May session, mathematics done and a full draft existing by around twelve months out. That timing exists because the second Diploma year has no spare capacity: a student finishing an exploration in DP2 is doing it instead of paper practice. The summer between the two years is the most underused window families have, and it is when a calm, well-chosen exploration gets finished. Students who leave the topic choice until the school's deadline forces it almost always pick something too broad.

Can one tutor take both my children if they are on different IB maths courses?+

Usually not, and it is worth resisting. If one child is on Analysis Higher Level and the other on Applications Standard Level, those are different subjects sharing a name, and the depth that makes a tutor useful on one does not transfer. Separate matches cost the same per hour and work considerably better. Where both children are on the same course and level, a shared tutor is sensible and keeps the scheduling simple, but the sessions should still run separately rather than as a pair taught together.

Name the course, then find the teacher

An Al Mamzar family looking for IB maths help is better served by precision than by proximity. Find out from the school which of the four IB Mathematics entries your child is sitting, make the tutor name it back to you, and ask how they will report method marks. Then book an hour that survives a normal Deira weekday rather than an ideal one. IB Gram's first lesson is free, runs live over video on Gulf Standard Time, and ends with a written diagnosis you can act on even if you go elsewhere. No tutor is sent to a UAE address; that is a service offered only in India.
