IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Mamzar

Most families looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Al Mamzar already know they need one. What they cannot find anywhere is a straight answer about money: what the Dubai market charges, what each band actually buys, and which hours earn marks rather than reassurance. This page puts the AED figures first, with their sources, then explains which parts of the Diploma chemistry course justify a specialist rate. Lessons are taught live over video.

  • AED bands published with the source and the month they were read
  • Hours recommended from a diagnosis, never from a package size
  • The investigation block costed separately, because it is 20% of the grade
  • A free trial lesson before any payment, with no card required

The money question nobody in this market will answer in writing

Three of the six best-ranking tutoring pages for Dubai chemistry queries publish no price at all, and one of them asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. The two that do quote use US dollars, a currency no Al Mamzar household transacts in. So the first thing this page does is publish the AED bands, attribute each one to whoever published it, and date them, because a family cannot plan two years of Diploma support around a phrase like "affordable rates".

Start monthly rather than hourly, because a monthly figure is what a household budget actually meets. Bestimate's Dubai research puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages visible in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Those two numbers buy the same eight hours, and the gap between them is a car.

The hourly bands behind those monthly figures are wide. Tutopiya advertises online tuition from around AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65, both at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist work, Bestimate puts specialist exam-year support at AED 200-450 and above, and BartyED advertises AED 650 for a premium named tutor. In-home visits run AED 180-500 an hour including travel. All of those were read in October 2026 and are market rates, not IB Gram's prices.

The useful question is not which band is cheapest but which hours are worth a specialist rate. For Diploma chemistry the answer is specific: the organic mechanism work, the quantitative sections of reactivity, the data-based part of Paper 1, and the scientific investigation. Everything else - vocabulary, definitions, routine practice, homework supervision - can be done perfectly well by a cheaper tutor, and paying specialist rates for it is the most common way Al Mamzar families overspend without noticing.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Al Mamzar or anywhere in the UAE; visiting tutors exist only as an India service. Chemistry here is taught live, one-to-one, over video. That decision is itself a cost decision: the money that would pay for a journey across Deira at 5pm pays instead for a tutor who has marked Higher Level chemistry, which is the part of the purchase that moves a grade. The rest of this page is the arithmetic behind that choice, set out so a family can argue with it, challenge the bands, and take the figures to a different provider if that produces a better answer for their household.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry money is spent at three different points in a student's path, and the value differs sharply between them. Knowing which point you are at is the first step to not overpaying.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

MYP Sciences, before the Diploma

MYP Sciences is marked on four criteria at 0-8 rather than by examination, and chemistry sits inside an integrated course. Spending at this stage is cheap and has the longest payoff, because what carries forward is arithmetic confidence with ratio and proportion, the habit of writing units, and experimental design. Those are the skills Diploma chemistry assumes and does not teach.

Al Mamzar families with children in the MYP schools of the Al Qusais and Mirdif belt often skip support here and spend heavily in DP2 instead. Reversing that order costs less overall, because an hour in MYP 4 prevents a problem rather than repairing one under time pressure.

SLAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

Chemistry Standard Level

Standard Level covers both themes of the current guide without the additional Higher Level material, and shares the data-based paper section and the scientific investigation with Higher Level. The spend that pays here is concentrated: the quantitative work in reactivity, and the investigation. A student taking chemistry as a third science rarely needs year-round support, and a termly block often does more than a permanent weekly hour.

Standard Level chemistry is a common third science in the Al Garhoud cluster, usually alongside a stronger subject pairing elsewhere. Families here get the best value from a diagnosis followed by two defined blocks - one around the investigation, one before the May session - rather than from an open-ended weekly arrangement.

HLAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

Chemistry Higher Level

Higher Level adds depth inside both themes, including more demanding energetics and entropy work, equilibrium and acid-base calculations, electrochemistry and a heavier organic mechanism load. This is where a specialist rate is genuinely justified, because mechanisms and multi-step calculations are the content a generalist most often teaches approximately. It is also the entry most medicine and chemical-science routes expect.

Higher Level chemistry is a minority entry in the schools nearest Al Mamzar, so local supply at that level is thin and the price asked locally is not a reliable guide to quality. Matching outside the neighbourhood and teaching online is what lets a family pay for expertise rather than for proximity.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry spending competes with every other subject in a Diploma timetable. These are the courses Al Mamzar households most often fund alongside it, and each is matched to its own specialist rather than bundled into a cheaper single booking.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two themes, structure and reactivity, with a data-based section inside Paper 1 and a scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. The expensive gaps are organic mechanisms and the quantitative reactivity work; the cheap gaps are definitions and nomenclature, which do not need a specialist.

Biology

HL and SL

Shares the investigation structure and its four criteria, so investigation coaching bought for one science partly serves the other. Biology's own cost trap is volume: students fund content revision when the marks are being lost to command terms and data interpretation.

Physics

HL and SL

The third science in the same assessment model. Uncertainty treatment learned for chemistry transfers directly, which means a household funding both sciences should buy that block once rather than twice.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Logarithms, indices and rearranging underpin pH, equilibrium and rate calculations. A chemistry problem that is really an algebra problem is the most expensive kind to fix with chemistry hours, because the hours do not touch the cause.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Strong on data handling, lighter on manipulation, which is the combination that produces chemistry students who can process results and stall on an equilibrium rearrangement. Worth diagnosing before buying chemistry time.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Taken by students who want a science without the chemistry load. Where it is taken alongside chemistry, the overlap in data interpretation and in systems thinking reduces the total support needed rather than adding to it.

Extended Essay in Chemistry

Core, 4,000 words

A chemistry Extended Essay needs a question answerable with school-accessible apparatus or published data. Scope failures are the costly mistake: a redesign in month four burns the hours that should have gone into the writing. A supervisor at school owns the process.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

Chemistry supplies strong TOK material on models, measurement and the status of a mechanism. No specialist chemistry hours are needed for it, and paying for them is one of the quieter ways money leaves a Diploma budget.

Collaborative Sciences Project

Core to the sciences

An interdisciplinary project all Diploma science students take part in. It carries no marks of its own, which makes it the clearest example of a component that should never be funded with tutoring hours, however stressful the week it lands in feels.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The shape of the booking is the biggest single lever on total cost. These three cover almost every Al Mamzar chemistry request, and the price of each is predictable in advance.

A diagnostic block, then stop

Three or four sessions that establish what the student is actually losing marks to, close the most expensive gap, and end. For a Standard Level student who is coping, this is often the whole purchase. It is also the arrangement most tutoring services will not propose, because it does not renew.

  • Three to four sessions with a defined end date
  • A written diagnosis after the first hour
  • One named gap closed properly rather than several skimmed
  • Re-booked later only if a new problem appears

The investigation block

Four to six sessions around the scientific investigation, which carries a fifth of the chemistry grade and has months of lead time. On a marks-per-dirham basis this is the best-value block on the course, and it is the one most often bought too late to be useful.

  • Design questioned before data collection, not after
  • Uncertainty and processing taught once, properly
  • Feedback against a named criterion each time
  • No writing, no supplied data, no editing to completion

Weekly one-to-one through Higher Level

A fixed hour a week for a Higher Level student whose course moves faster than they do. The honest version of this arrangement includes a review every few weeks that is allowed to conclude the hours are no longer needed.

  • One hour weekly, same tutor, through DP1 and DP2
  • Organic mechanisms and quantitative reactivity prioritised
  • A review every four to six weeks against marked work
  • Hours reduced when the diagnosis says so

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mamzar

01

What two years of Diploma chemistry support actually costs in Al Mamzar

A direct answer first. At one specialist hour a week through both Diploma years, a family is committing to something in the region of AED 1,000-2,000 a month during the examination year on Bestimate's own estimates, and less in the first year where a termly block is often enough. A weekly one-hour arrangement at the mid band is estimated at AED 600-1,200 a month. The total is therefore a five-figure AED commitment across two years, and it deserves to be planned rather than drifted into.

The figures that make that up are published. At the lower end, Tutopiya advertises from around AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. In the middle, Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour. At the specialist end, TutorChase quotes around AED 270 and Bestimate's band runs AED 200-450 and above, with BartyED at AED 650 for a premium named tutor. In-home visiting tutors are quoted at AED 180-500 an hour including their travel. Every one of those was read in October 2026.

Against that, school fees are the larger number in most households, and there is one piece of genuinely good news: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family planning Diploma support, that means the tuition line is the variable one and the fee line is not, which is a better position than the reverse.

The sensible way to budget it is backwards from the components. The investigation is 20% of the grade and has a fixed deadline: fund that block properly. The final term is where paper technique is built: fund that. The middle of DP1, where the school is teaching content the student is following, is where a weekly specialist hour most often buys reassurance rather than marks.

Four ways Al Mamzar families waste chemistry money

  • Split the spend: specialist hours for mechanisms, cheaper hours for consolidation
  • Diagnose before buying a package, not after
  • Groups for content, one-to-one for marked answers
  • Fund the investigation block early, when it still has lead time
  • The final-term rate is the same, but the hours have to do twice the work

The first is paying a specialist rate for work a cheaper tutor could do. Definitions, nomenclature, naming organic compounds, routine homework supervision - these are worth doing and not worth AED 300 an hour. A household that splits its spending, buying specialist hours for mechanisms and the investigation and cheaper hours for consolidation, gets more for the same money than one that buys a single expensive weekly slot and uses it for whatever happened that week.

The second is buying a block of hours before anyone has diagnosed the problem. A ten-hour package sold on the second phone call commits money to a plan nobody has made. The sequence that protects a budget is: one free diagnostic hour, a written list of what the student is losing marks to, then a decision about how many hours that list justifies. Sometimes the honest answer is four.

The third is group classes bought as a saving. A group chemistry class at a per-student rate can be good value for content delivery, and it is poor value for the thing most Diploma students need, which is somebody looking at their own written answers. Marks in chemistry are lost individually: this student omits units, that one cannot sequence a mechanism, a third writes a conclusion the data does not support. A group cannot see that.

The fourth, and the most expensive, is starting late. Leaving the organic mechanism work and the quantitative reactivity sections until the final term means buying them at the point when the same hours are also needed for paper technique, and there are not enough evenings in a Deira week to do both. The cheapest chemistry hour a family will ever buy is the one in DP1 that stops a gap becoming a crisis.

03

Reading a chemistry tutoring offer: models, trials and what is actually included

Comparing tutoring offers in Dubai is harder than it should be because almost nobody compares on the same terms. The honest way to look at it is by provider model rather than by brand, because the model determines the cost structure and what the family can expect when something goes wrong.

An agency carries overheads and usually offers a replacement if a match fails. A marketplace is cheaper per hour and puts the vetting burden on the parent. An independent freelance tutor can be excellent and is a single point of failure, with no cover when they travel. A tuition centre with premises sells group rates and sits under a different regulatory regime - a KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises, and a family paying centre rates is entitled to ask to see it. A school-run support class is often the cheapest option available and is underused.

Two clauses matter more than the hourly rate. The first is what happens if the match is wrong: a service that replaces the tutor without charging again is worth a premium over one that does not. The second is the trial. A free trial lesson is only genuinely free if the conditions are stated on the same page - length, whether card details are required, and whether declining to continue costs anything. Any offer that uses the word free without those conditions beside it should be read again.

Be careful too with claims that are presented as price-justifying credentials. A tutor described as an examiner should be able to evidence it. A service claiming KHDA, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership is making a claim that is checkable, and IB Gram makes none of them: we hold no such approval, operate no UAE centre, and do not use examiner status as a selling point unless the individual can show it. Self-published star ratings with no countable reviews behind them are another sign to slow down.

04

Which chemistry content justifies a specialist rate

The current Diploma chemistry guide is built on two themes: structure, covering models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter; and reactivity, covering what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far they go, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level students take additional material inside both. Assessment is Paper 1, which includes a data-based section, Paper 2, and the scientific investigation at a fifth of the grade.

Within that, four areas repay specialist teaching and the rest mostly does not. The first is organic mechanisms: sequencing steps, showing the movement of electron pairs correctly, and distinguishing between reaction types that look similar on paper. Students almost never learn this reliably from a textbook, and a generalist tutor teaching it approximately is worse than no tutor, because the approximations become the student's habit.

The second is the quantitative reactivity work - energetics and entropy, equilibrium constants, rate equations and acid-base calculations including the logarithmic handling in pH. The mathematics here is not hard in itself and is routinely mishandled, with intermediate values rounded early and answers stated to impossible precision. The third is the data-based section of Paper 1, which asks for experimental reasoning rather than recall. The fourth is the investigation.

Everything else - nomenclature, periodic trends, bonding definitions, the vocabulary of the course - is learnable from the school's teaching plus organised practice, and funding it at AED 300 an hour is a choice rather than a necessity. A tutor who tells you this unprompted is giving you the most useful piece of financial advice available in this market, which is why it is written down here.

05

The investigation: a fifth of the grade and the cheapest marks to buy

The chemistry scientific investigation is marked on four criteria - research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation - each worth six marks, twenty-four in total, making up 20% of the final grade. It is the only component with months of lead time, which makes it the only component where careful, unhurried work is possible. On a marks-per-dirham basis nothing else on the course comes close.

Research design decides most outcomes. A question that names the independent variable, the dependent variable and the controls, and that can be answered with apparatus the school actually has, is most of the way to the marks before any data is collected. A broad question invites a report that measures something and concludes nothing. Students who get this wrong lose weeks, and weeks lost in DP2 are the most expensive weeks in the Diploma.

Data analysis rewards correct uncertainty treatment, sensible processing and graphs that can be read - axes labelled with units, uncertainties shown where they belong, and no decorative three-dimensional effects. Conclusion has to state what the data shows and compare it to accepted chemistry. Evaluation has to name a specific weakness and its effect on the result, which is a different thing from asking for more repeats.

The boundary on help is firm and worth putting in writing before any money changes hands. A tutor may teach any chemistry the student needs, question whether a design will produce usable data, explain uncertainty, point at a criterion by name and give feedback on a draft. A tutor never writes the report, never supplies data, and never edits the prose to completion. Under IB academic-honesty rules the consequences of crossing that line fall on the student, and no saving is worth that.

06

When to spend: the chemistry year counted backwards from the May session

  • DP1: the cheapest hours in the two years, because the gaps are small
  • The summer between Diploma years: the free window most families waste
  • Three months out: the last comfortable point for new content
  • Eight weeks out: timed papers and an error log, nothing else
  • Two weeks out: no new content, however tempting the offer

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May examination session, and the dates that govern a chemistry student's year are set inside the school rather than by the IB. Confirm any specific IB examination or results date with the Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org before planning around it. What can be planned confidently is the sequence, and the sequence is what decides when money is well spent.

Eighteen months out, in DP1, the investigation question should be settled and the first theme secure. This is the cheapest point in the whole two years to buy help, because a gap here is a small gap. Twelve months out the investigation should be substantially complete; the summer between the Diploma years is the most underused window families have, and it costs nothing extra to use it. Six to eight months out, mocks arrive and give the first honest read on paper technique under time.

Three months out is the last comfortable point to close a content gap, and the point at which organic mechanisms left untouched become genuinely expensive, because the same evenings are now needed for paper work. Eight weeks out, the money should be buying timed papers marked with the mark scheme visible and an error log grouped by cause. Two weeks out, nothing new should be bought at all; a tired student revising unfamiliar content loses more than they gain.

For a family comparing providers, this sequence is also a test. Ask when in the two years they would expect to be working hardest with your child, and listen for whether the answer matches the components or matches their billing cycle. A provider who says DP1 term three and the final term, and expects to be quieter in between, is reading the course. A provider whose answer is the same every month is reading the invoice.

07

Permits, VAT and the three questions that protect a chemistry budget

  • Ask what the premium buys that a cheaper tutor could not deliver
  • Ask what happens to unused hours if the match fails
  • Ask whether the quoted AED figure includes any tax, and get it on the invoice
  • Check the permit position rather than accepting a claim of accreditation
  • Ask when the provider expects to recommend stopping

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so an amount quoted to you as fact is unverified. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service.

On tax, be careful what you accept from a web page. The VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority, and no tutoring site should be stating it as settled fact. The question to ask any provider is narrower and answerable: is the AED figure you have quoted me inclusive or exclusive of any tax, and will my invoice show it? A provider who cannot answer that in one sentence is not a provider to pay in advance.

Dubai's schools, separately, sit under KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. A KHDA Educational Services Permit belongs to training institutes with premises. IB Gram has no UAE centre and holds no such permit, and claims no approval or partnership from KHDA or the IB.

Three questions protect a chemistry budget better than any amount of comparison shopping. First: what exactly am I paying this rate to get that a cheaper tutor could not do? Second: what happens to my money if the match is wrong after two sessions? Third: when will you tell me the hours are no longer needed? The third is the one that separates a service from a subscription, and the answer tells you most of what you need to know.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Mamzar

Chemistry bookings cluster by school rather than by street, and the school sets the level, the group size and the internal deadlines - all three of which affect what support is worth buying.

Al Mamzar

Corniche towers and inland villas near the beach park. No Diploma provision locally, so every chemistry student commutes, and every household is paying for transport before it pays for tuition.

Al Garhoud

The nearest Diploma cluster, fifteen to twenty-five minutes away. Higher Level chemistry groups here are small, which means less peer support inside school and a stronger case for external specialist hours.

Abu Hail

Older apartment stock with its own metro station. Households here often have two or three children needing different subjects, which makes bundling a false economy and separate matching the cheaper route.

Hor Al Anz

Dense flats along Abu Baker Al Siddique Road, with later evening slots the norm. Chemistry requests from here skew towards Standard Level and towards blocks rather than year-round arrangements.

Al Qusais

The thickest school belt near Al Mamzar, along Damascus Street. Mostly British and Indian curriculum, so science enquiries here are more often IGCSE than Diploma, at a different price point entirely.

Al Nahda

On the Sharjah boundary. The evening road sets the session time, and in-home tutors price that journey in - which is precisely the premium an online booking removes.

Mirdif

Villa communities off Al Khawaneej Road, mixed British and IB provision. Weekend sessions are common, and weekend availability is one of the few things that genuinely varies in price across the market.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mamzar

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what you are trying to buy

The most useful first message names the level, the themes covered so far, whether the investigation has started, and what the household can sustain monthly. A budget stated up front produces a plan that fits it rather than a package that does not.

  2. 02

    One free diagnostic hour

The trial includes a mechanism question and a short data-based task, because those reveal more than conversation. The written diagnosis afterwards lists what the student is losing marks to, in order of cost to recover.

  3. 03

Decide the shape, not just the tutor

A diagnostic block, an investigation block, or a weekly hour - each has a different total cost and a different payoff. We say which one the diagnosis supports, including when the honest answer is the cheapest option.

  4. 04

Fix the hour and the review date

One slot in Gulf Standard Time, placed after school transport reaches Al Mamzar, plus a date four to six weeks out when the plan is reviewed against marked work. The review is allowed to conclude that fewer hours are needed.

  5. 05

Stop when the diagnosis says stop

Hours end when the named gaps are closed. If a new problem appears later, a new block starts. An open-ended weekly arrangement that nobody reviews is the most expensive thing a Diploma family can buy.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices published with their sources

Every AED figure on this page names who published it and the month it was read. Three of the best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and one asks the question in its own FAQ and declines to answer it.

Hours from a diagnosis, not a package

The number of hours recommended comes from what the first session finds, and the recommendation is allowed to be small. A service whose answer to every problem is more hours is selling a subscription rather than teaching chemistry.

The travel premium removed

In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and a monthly in-home package costs roughly double an online one for the same hours. We do not offer home visits in the UAE at all - that is an India-only service - so the budget goes into the match.

A stated boundary on assessed work

A tutor teaches chemistry, questions a design and gives feedback against a named criterion. A tutor never writes a report or supplies data. The boundary is published because the consequence of crossing it falls on the student.

No credentials we cannot evidence

No claim of KHDA, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, no UAE office, no self-published star rating, and no examiner status asserted for anybody who cannot show it. Those claims raise prices in this market without raising quality.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mamzar: your questions answered

What will two years of IB Chemistry support realistically cost us?+

Plan it as a monthly figure. Bestimate's Dubai estimates put a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Most families do not need the top band in both years: a termly block in DP1 plus a funded investigation block and a final-term run is usually cheaper and more effective than an unbroken weekly specialist hour for twenty-four months. Ask any provider to cost the plan rather than the hour.

Is it cheaper to buy a block of chemistry hours in advance?+

Sometimes marginally, and it is usually the wrong order. Committing to ten hours before anyone has diagnosed what the student is losing marks to means paying for a plan nobody has made. The sequence that protects the money is a free diagnostic hour, a written list of causes, then a decision about how many hours that list justifies - which is occasionally four rather than ten. If a package is bought, ask in writing what happens to unused hours if the match turns out to be wrong.

Are group chemistry classes in Deira better value than one-to-one?+

For content delivery, often yes - a per-student group rate at a tuition centre can be good value for working through a theme. For the thing most Diploma students actually need, no. Chemistry marks are lost individually: one student omits units, another cannot sequence a mechanism, a third writes a conclusion the data does not support. A group cannot see any of that. The efficient combination for a tight budget is group or school-run content support plus a small number of one-to-one hours spent on marked written answers.

How much should we spend on the Chemistry scientific investigation?+

More than most families do, and earlier. The investigation is 20% of the grade and the only component with months of lead time, which makes it the best-value block on the course. Four to six focused sessions, placed before data collection rather than after, will usually cover design, uncertainty treatment and criterion-by-criterion feedback on a draft. Bought late, the same money buys damage control. The tutor teaches the chemistry and gives feedback; the student designs, collects and writes everything themselves.

Why do chemistry tutors charge more than general science tutors in Dubai?+

Because a narrow part of the course genuinely requires it, and the rest does not. Organic mechanisms, the quantitative reactivity work including pH and equilibrium, the data-based section of Paper 1 and the investigation all reward someone who has marked the real thing. Nomenclature, bonding definitions and periodic trends do not. A household that buys specialist hours for the first group and cheaper hours for the second gets more for its money than one paying a single premium rate for whatever came up at school that week.

Do Dubai school fees rise every year on top of tutoring costs?+

Not this year. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family budgeting Diploma support, that makes the tuition line the variable one. Fees for future years are set through the regulator's own process and are not something a tutoring provider can forecast, so treat any such prediction you are shown as marketing rather than information.

What are the two themes in the current IB Chemistry guide?+

Structure and reactivity. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far they proceed, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level students take additional material inside both themes rather than a separate option list. A tutor who describes the course as a numbered list of eleven topics is working from the previous guide, which is a useful signal about how recently they have taught it.

My son cannot do organic mechanisms. How many hours does that take to fix?+

For most students, somewhere between four and eight focused hours, and it is one of the best uses of a specialist rate on the whole course. The content is bounded: the main reaction types, how electron pairs move, how to sequence steps, and how to distinguish mechanisms that look similar when written quickly. What makes it expensive if neglected is that approximate mechanism teaching becomes a habit, and unlearning a habit costs more hours than learning the thing properly the first time.

Is a free trial chemistry lesson actually free, and what is the catch?+

It depends entirely on whether the conditions are published beside the word. A trial is only genuinely free if the page states the length, whether card details are required, and whether declining to continue costs anything. IB Gram's first lesson is free with no card taken, and it ends with a written diagnosis the family keeps whether or not they book again. Any provider that uses the word free without those conditions on the same screen is worth a second read before you hand over details.

Does Chemistry at Higher Level matter for applying to medicine?+

Most medical programmes list chemistry among their required subjects, frequently at Higher Level, but requirements vary between universities and between countries, and they change. Read the specific programme's published entry requirements and confirm them with the admissions office rather than relying on a school summary or a tutoring page. What a tutor can tell you is whether a student's current performance is consistent with the grade such a programme would ask for, which is a more useful and more honest conversation than a list of requirements copied from elsewhere.

What is the Collaborative Sciences Project and does it need tutoring?+

It is an interdisciplinary project that Diploma science students take part in, bringing together students from different sciences on a shared problem. It carries no marks towards the final grade of its own, which makes it the clearest example of a component that should not be funded with paid hours however stressful the week it falls in feels. Time and encouragement are what it needs. Spending tutoring money on it is money that would have been better placed on the investigation, which is worth a fifth of the grade.

Is the chemistry price per hour or per lesson, and does it include tax?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing, because the market is inconsistent. Some providers quote per sixty-minute hour, some per lesson of forty-five or ninety minutes, and comparing the two numbers directly is misleading. On tax, the VAT treatment of tuition in the UAE is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority and not something a tutoring page should state as settled. The answerable question is whether the figure quoted to you is inclusive or exclusive and whether your invoice will show it separately.

What happens to our money if we stop after two chemistry sessions?+

That is the clause worth settling before the first payment, not after the second session. A service that replaces a tutor without charging again is worth a premium over one that does not, and a service holding prepaid hours with no refund route is a risk whatever the hourly rate looks like. IB Gram's first lesson is free and nothing is prepaid before it, so a family that decides after one session has lost no money. Ask any provider the same question and listen for how specific the answer is.

Which chemistry topics are most expensive to leave until the final term?+

Organic mechanisms and the quantitative reactivity work - energetics and entropy, equilibrium, rates and acid-base calculations. Both take real hours to build properly, and the final term is when those same hours are needed for paper technique and the data-based section. Leaving them late means buying twice the support in half the time, in a Deira week that has limited evenings in it. The investigation is the other one: bought after the school's internal deadline has passed, it buys damage control rather than marks.

Cost the plan, not the hour

An Al Mamzar family can control chemistry spending more than this market suggests. Get a diagnosis before buying hours, fund the investigation block early because it is a fifth of the grade with months of lead time, buy specialist rates only for mechanisms and the quantitative work, and ask every provider when they expect to recommend stopping. IB Gram's first lesson is free with no card taken and ends with a written diagnosis you keep either way. No tutor is sent to a UAE address; visiting tutors are a service we offer only in India.
