IB Tutor near me in Al Mamzar

The question behind a search for an IB tutor near me in Al Mamzar is rarely about distance. It is whether anyone within reach actually knows the syllabus - the right level, the right subject, the internal assessment criteria. This page answers that honestly rather than reassuringly, including where IB provision sits in this corner of Dubai, which subjects are genuinely well covered, which are thin, and what happens when nobody suitable is free. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched by subject and level, not by subject name alone
  • Coverage and match times stated before you commit to anything

IB & IGCSE in Al Mamzar

The honest answer to 'is anyone near me any good at this'

A parent typing 'IB tutor near me' in Al Mamzar is usually not asking about geography at all. They are asking a harder question: is there anybody within reach who genuinely knows this syllabus - the right subject, at the right level, with a working grasp of how the internal assessment is marked? Most pages answering this search reply with a reassurance. This one tries to reply with the actual position, including the parts that are unflattering.

Start with where IB is taught. International Baccalaureate programmes account for about 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school enrolment, against 37 per cent for UK curriculum and 26 per cent for Indian. That 7 per cent is not spread evenly across the city. It concentrates in Emirates Hills, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim and the New Dubai belt, with the nearest provision to Al Mamzar sitting across in Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, and in Mirdif. Deira, Al Qusais and Al Nahda are predominantly Indian-curriculum and Ministry-curriculum districts.

Tutor supply follows school supply, with a lag and a concentration. Someone who teaches Diploma Biology at Higher Level builds a practice around the schools that run it, and those schools are mostly a long drive from Al Mamzar. So the honest answer to 'is anyone near me' is: fewer people than in Al Barsha, and fewer again once you specify a level and a weak area. That is a statement about this neighbourhood's geography rather than about its families, and it is the reason this page exists in this form.

The second honest point is about what 'knows the syllabus' means, because it is where most tutoring money in this market is wasted. A tutor who studied a subject at university knows the content. A tutor who knows the Diploma syllabus knows which content is on it, what each paper weights, which command terms appear, how the internal assessment criteria are worded, and where a particular cohort reliably loses marks. The gap between those two is invisible in a credential list and obvious within ten minutes of a trial lesson.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Al Mamzar or anywhere else in the UAE; a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason that matters most here is not convenience - it is that removing the travel requirement means the match can be made on subject and level rather than on who is willing to cross the city at 4.30pm. Below, we set out what is well covered, what is thin, how long a match usually takes, and what we do when the answer is that nobody suitable is available.

At a glance

  • IB programmes are about 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, concentrated away from Deira
  • The nearest IB provision to Al Mamzar sits in Al Garhoud, Dubai Festival City and Mirdif
  • Tutor supply follows school supply, so the local pool for IB subjects here is thin
  • 'Knows the syllabus' means papers, weightings, command terms and assessment criteria - not just content
  • Coverage, match times and fallbacks are stated before you commit
  • Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IB family in Al Mamzar may be in any of three programmes, and the supply position differs for each. These are the stages and what coverage actually looks like at each one.

PYPAges 3-12 · PYP

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with transdisciplinary themes rather than subject syllabuses and no external examination. Support here is rarely subject tutoring. The useful work is on literacy, numeracy fluency and the research and presentation habits the programme assumes, and a generalist primary teacher is usually a better match than a subject specialist.

Because the Primary Years Programme has no published subject syllabus, parents cannot look up what their child is supposed to know, which produces a particular kind of anxiety. The practical move is to ask the class teacher which specific skill is below expectation, then address that - not to buy generic maths tutoring against a worry.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, four criteria each scored zero to eight, converted to a one-to-seven grade. Coverage here is middling: tutors who understand criterion-referenced assessment are less common than subject tutors, and the two are not the same thing. A tutor who cannot read a criteria descriptor will teach content while the criterion stays low.

The Middle Years Programme's criterion scores are diagnostic if read properly, and for a family in this neighbourhood that is useful because it narrows what needs buying. A high knowing-and-understanding score with a low processing-and-evaluating score in sciences is a data-handling gap, not a science gap, and it needs a specific kind of tutor.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups at Higher or Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. This is where supply gets genuinely uneven. Mathematics, the sciences, economics and English are reasonably covered; several Group 2 languages, music, and specific Higher Level options are thin. Sat in the May session UAE schools use, with a November session also available.

The two nearest schools to Al Mamzar offering Diploma programmes sit in Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, with further provision in Mirdif. That commute is why an Al Mamzar Diploma family is often the only one in their building, and why asking neighbours for a tutor recommendation produces nothing useful here.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme and the core components

The Career-related Programme is offered by a small number of schools, and coverage for its specific components is the thinnest in the whole set. The Diploma core - Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, CAS - is separately scarce, because supervising an Extended Essay well is a different skill from teaching the subject it sits in.

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay support is the request we most often have to be careful about, because the line between coaching and producing work is narrowest there. What a tutor can do is interrogate a research question, explain the assessment criteria and comment on the student's own draft. What nobody may do is write it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Al Mamzar families ask about, with the component that usually decides the grade named and an honest note where local coverage is thin.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which is where the course is really tested. Higher Level Paper 3 carries 20 per cent and is the component students have practised least. Coverage is reasonable at Standard Level and thinner at Higher.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with calculator access throughout. The Higher Level statistics content - hypothesis testing, regression, graph theory - is demanding and the hardest part of this course to find a specialist for.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume and the data-based questions decide the grade. The commonest Diploma science request in this catchment, driven by health-science ambitions, and reasonably well covered.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole-based calculations drain marks across every paper; organic is taught last and revised least. Higher Level organic specialists are genuinely scarce across the city, not just near Al Mamzar.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields and circuits are the reliable mark drains, and the data-analysis section of Paper 1 rewards uncertainty work that is rarely taught systematically. Higher Level coverage is thin.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and the command terms decide more marks than the economics does. Higher Level carries quantitative content that catches out students who chose it to avoid mathematics. Coverage is good.

Business Management

HL and SL

The quantitative tools - ratio analysis, investment appraisal, break-even - are where strong written candidates lose marks. Popular in this part of the city, where many parents work in trade and logistics.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper on unseen non-literary texts are where marks move. Students who read widely still lose marks for not shaping an argument to the question asked.

English B

HL and SL

Taken by many students in this catchment whose home language is not English. The individual oral and the writing task need timed practice rather than vocabulary work, and coverage is good.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Arabic A first-language provision is more in demand in this neighbourhood than the city average, and local supply for it is genuinely strong - this is the one subject where a nearby tutor is often the better option.

Psychology and Global Politics

HL and SL

Both reward command-term discipline and the use of specific studies or cases rather than general argument. Coverage is moderate, and thinner for the Higher Level extensions.

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

Core

Separately scarce, because supervising an Extended Essay is a different skill from teaching its subject. Support is on question viability, criteria and feedback on the student's own draft - never on producing the work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways IB support runs for Al Mamzar families, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time rather than by home visit.

Weekly subject support at a named level

One session a week on one subject at one level, following the school's own sequence. The level is part of the booking rather than a detail, because Higher and Standard Level diverge in content, paper structure and expected depth, and a tutor comfortable with one is not automatically useful for the other.

  • Booked by subject and level together
  • Tracks the school's scheme of work rather than a generic plan
  • Catches a weak unit in the term it is taught
  • Lowest cost per hour of the three options

Internal assessment block

A short run timed to the school's internal deadline for an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. Concentrated at the start, where question viability and planning decide most of the marks. The research, the data, the argument and the words stay the student's own throughout.

  • Question or topic viability tested before work is invested
  • Assessment criteria read against the student's own draft
  • Feedback rather than rewriting, stated explicitly up front
  • Timed to the school's deadline, not the IB's

Diagnostic block with a stated coverage answer

For families unsure whether tutoring is the right purchase at all. Two or three sessions and a timed paper produce a written view of what is actually wrong, what would fix it, and whether we have a suitable specialist available. Sometimes the answer is that the school's own department is the better route, and we say so.

  • A timed paper marked against the official scheme
  • Written diagnosis of cause rather than a grade
  • An honest statement of our coverage for that need
  • No obligation to continue, and no package to exit

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mamzar

01

Where IB actually sits in this part of Dubai

The first half of the question - who is near me - has a factual answer. International Baccalaureate programmes account for roughly 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school enrolment, in a sector of 227 private schools and 387,441 students teaching seventeen different curricula. UK curriculum is 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian 26 and US 14. Those shares vary enormously by district, and Al Mamzar sits in one of the districts where the Indian-curriculum share is well above the city average and IB provision is sparse.

No IB school sits in Al Mamzar itself. The nearest substantial international-curriculum cluster is in Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, which includes Diploma provision, and there is further IB continuum provision east in Mirdif. Everything else is a longer run - Emirates Hills, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim and the New Dubai belt carry most of the city's IB schools and most of its IB-experienced teachers.

That geography has a consequence families here discover socially before they discover it commercially. An Al Mamzar Diploma family is often the only one in their building, and sometimes the only one on their street. The ordinary way parents find tutors - asking the person whose child is in the same class - does not work when nobody nearby is in the same programme. What replaces it is usually a search, which is how most readers arrive at this page.

The useful conclusion is not that the neighbourhood is badly served in general. It is well served for CBSE subjects, for Arabic as a first language, and for Ministry-curriculum support, because that is where the local demand sits and supply follows demand. It is thinly served for Diploma subjects, and the gap widens sharply at Higher Level and in the core components. The table sets that out by district so the position is checkable rather than asserted.

Subject by subject: what is covered, what is thin, and what we do about it

No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit. Every one of them implies that any subject at any level can be matched immediately, which is not true of any provider including us. Publishing the real position is more useful, and it is also the single question worth asking every provider you speak to before paying anything.

Coverage is good for the subjects most students take: Biology, Economics, Business Management, English A and English B, and mathematics at Standard Level. It is moderate for Psychology, Global Politics and Standard Level sciences. It is thin for Higher Level physics and chemistry, for Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, for several Group 2 languages, for music and visual arts, and for the core components - Extended Essay supervision in particular, because that is a different skill from teaching the subject.

Match times follow the same pattern. A well-covered subject at Standard Level is usually matched within a few days. A thin Higher Level requirement can take a week or two, and sometimes cannot be matched at the hour a family wants. When that happens there are three honest answers rather than one: how long a match realistically takes, whether a closely related specialist could cover part of the need, and whether the school's own department or a different approach is the better route for now.

The fourth answer, which we also give, is that tutoring is sometimes the wrong purchase. A Diploma student failing across four subjects usually has an organisation or workload problem rather than four subject problems, and buying four tutors makes it worse by removing the independent study time. Saying that costs us a sale and saves a family several thousand dirhams, which is the trade this page is making.

03

Three tests for whether a tutor actually knows the syllabus

  • Ask what each paper is worth and what the internal assessment contributes
  • Ask them to name the internal assessment criteria and the marks for each
  • Hand over a marked script and ask what the pattern of lost marks indicates
  • A proposal to 'go through the syllabus' means no diagnosis was made
  • Do all three in a free trial lesson, before any money changes hands

The second half of the question - does anyone near me know this syllabus - cannot be answered from a credential list, and a parent does not need to be a subject expert to test it. Three questions in a trial lesson will separate a tutor who knows the content from one who knows the course, and the difference between those two is where most tutoring money in this market goes to waste.

The first test is weightings. Ask what each paper is worth and what the internal assessment contributes. A tutor who teaches the Diploma knows that the internal assessment carries a fifth of the grade in most subjects, that Higher Level mathematics has a Paper 3 carrying 20 per cent, and roughly how the written papers split. A tutor who hesitates here has taught the subject somewhere else and is working out the Diploma as they go.

The second test is the assessment criteria. Ask them to name the criteria for the internal assessment in your child's subject and say what each is worth. In the sciences the scientific investigation is marked out of twenty-four across four criteria; in mathematics the exploration is marked out of twenty across five. Someone who works on internal assessments regularly can describe these without notes, and someone who cannot should not be charging a specialist rate for internal assessment support.

The third test is diagnostic. Hand over a marked paper and ask what the pattern of lost marks indicates. A tutor who knows the course will distinguish content gaps from unwritten method, from misread command terms, from running out of time - and will say which of those the next six weeks should target. A tutor who responds by proposing to go through the whole syllabus has told you they cannot diagnose, which makes the sessions a lottery regardless of how well they explain.

04

Why a general tutor cannot cover a six-subject Diploma

  • Six subjects across different groups at two levels, plus three core components
  • Each component has its own assessment structure and criteria
  • One person can cover the layer underneath: planning, criteria literacy, revision against weightings
  • One or two subjects failing means subject tutors
  • Four or more subjects failing means workload or organisation, and more tutoring makes it worse

Families in this neighbourhood sometimes hope for one tutor who can support a Diploma student generally, and it is worth explaining why that does not exist rather than simply declining. The Diploma is six subjects drawn from different groups, at two levels, plus three core components, and each has its own assessment structure. The breadth is the point of the programme and it is also what makes general coverage impossible.

Consider what a single tutor would need. For the sciences, the scientific investigation criteria and the uncertainty treatment the data-based questions test. For mathematics, two separate courses with different papers and a different exploration mark scheme. For English A, the individual oral and the analysis of unseen non-literary text. For a Group 3 subject, command-term discipline and case specificity. For Theory of Knowledge, a form of argument that appears nowhere else in the programme. No individual holds that set.

What one person can usefully cover across a Diploma is the layer underneath the subjects: workload planning, how to read an assessment criterion, how to plan backwards from an internal deadline, how to revise against weightings rather than evenly. That is genuinely valuable and frequently the right purchase for a student who is drowning rather than failing, and it is also considerably cheaper than four subject tutors.

The practical rule we apply is this. One or two subjects failing means subject tutors, matched by subject and level. Four or more subjects failing means the problem is workload, organisation or wellbeing, and subject tutoring will make it worse by consuming the hours in which independent work has to happen. Diagnosing which of those two situations a family is in takes one honest conversation, and it is the conversation most providers skip.

05

What scarcity does to the price, and what a parent should pay for

  • The published rate ladder reflects scarcity of expertise, not a simple quality scale
  • Budget online rates start around AED 33-65 an hour and usually mean a university student
  • Qualified online subject tutors are published from AED 150-300; specialist IB work at AED 200-450 and above
  • Pay for narrowness only when the need is genuinely narrow
  • In-home rates run AED 180-500 an hour with travel inside the price, and the travel is longer to Al Mamzar

Scarcity shows up in the rate, and this market makes that visible if you read the published figures in order. Budget online tutoring starts at roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour with Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 with EdFlik, which generally means a university student. A qualified subject tutor online is published from around AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IB work is quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at around AED 270, and examiner-led sessions at around AED 650 with BartyED.

That ladder is a scarcity ladder rather than a quality ladder, and the implication is practical: pay for narrowness only when the need is narrow. A Standard Level biology student working through a unit does not need the top of the ladder. A Higher Level chemistry student eight weeks from the papers who is losing marks specifically on organic mechanisms does, because the number of people who can diagnose and fix that is small.

In-home one-to-one sits separately, at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, and advertised packages run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. For Al Mamzar the travel component is larger than average, because the tutors teaching these syllabuses mostly live nearer the schools that teach them. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so that band is the market's rather than a choice we are declining to make.

We publish no rate card on this page, because a figure quoted without knowing the subject, the level and the frequency is a number rather than information. The trial lesson and the consultation are free. For budgeting context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

06

The internal assessment line, and why it protects your child

  • A tutor teaches, interrogates, models on different material, and comments on the student's own draft
  • The research, data, argument and words must be the student's own
  • The school's authentication puts the risk on the candidate, not the helper
  • Examiner claims we cannot evidence are not made, and imply nothing about boundaries or papers
  • Exact IB session dates come from the school's Diploma coordinator or ibo.org, not from us

Internal assessments carry a fifth of the grade in most Diploma subjects, and together with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge essay they are the part of the programme where the honesty question is sharpest. The boundary is clear and worth stating before any deadline pressure arrives. A tutor may teach content, explain what each criterion rewards, interrogate a research question, model a technique on different material, and give feedback on a draft the student has written.

A tutor may not produce the work. The research, the data, the argument and the words have to be the student's own, and the school authenticates that. If the authentication is untrue the sanction falls on the candidate rather than on whoever helped, which is the asymmetry worth understanding. One site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments at a published price; that transaction puts the entire risk on a seventeen-year-old while the seller keeps the money.

This is also where unverifiable credentials do the most damage. We do not describe tutors as IB examiners for individuals whose current status cannot be evidenced, and no examiner claim should be read as implying access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. A provider using examiner status to suggest inside knowledge of an internal assessment is making a claim that should fail a parent's basic scepticism test.

Materials follow the same principle. We reference IB subject guides, past papers and mark schemes, cite them, and point to the official source. We do not reproduce them or supply them as downloads, because they are the board's copyright and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. We also publish no IB session or results dates, because ibo.org blocks automated access and nothing in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself - the May session is the one UAE schools sit, and exact dates come from the school's Diploma coordinator.

07

The permit question, and why so few parents ask it

  • The private tuition work permit comes from MoHRE under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • It is granted free of charge for two years; the MoHRE service page lists no fees
  • Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties, with no published schedule - treat quoted figures as unverified
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit is for training institutes with premises; a platform without premises does not hold one
  • Paying your child's own classroom teacher privately risks breaching a code of conduct

There is one thing about a tutor that a parent in Al Mamzar can verify in a single question, and almost nobody asks it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students.

MoHRE's own service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system, and it lists no fees. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published anywhere official, so a figure quoted to you as the penalty - including figures that circulate in parent groups - should be treated as unverified.

Anyone telling you private tutoring in Dubai is unregulated, or that a permit is optional, is wrong, and that is a useful signal about the rest of what they say. So is the opposite error: a provider claiming KHDA approval as a tutoring service is describing something specific. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. A platform without premises does not hold one, and should not imply it.

There is a related point about who teaches. Abu Dhabi's ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct barring the same arrangement. Those are press-reported positions and should be verified against the current policy document, but the principle travels across the UAE: engaging your child's own classroom teacher privately is the arrangement most likely to put that teacher in breach.

08

KHDA, SPEA and the regulator map that matters on this border

  • KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi, SPEA in Sharjah, Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah
  • Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities approve curricula and fees, not just inspection outcomes
  • Al Mamzar sits minutes from the Sharjah boundary, so both frameworks are in play for this neighbourhood
  • Mandatory UAE subjects apply alongside any licensed international curriculum in Dubai
  • Additional content in the mandatory subjects needs prior Ministry of Education permission

Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. The regulator map for the rest of the country is worth knowing here specifically, because Al Mamzar sits minutes from the Sharjah boundary and some families in this neighbourhood have children at schools under a different authority.

In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. In Sharjah, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education, and in Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge does the same. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Those five bodies are the complete regulator map for UAE private schools, and ADEK in particular is named by none of the competitor pages researched in this market.

The Sharjah distinction is more than administrative. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods - so curriculum and fee approval, not merely inspection, sits with the emirate regulator. A family in Al Mamzar with a child at a Sharjah school is therefore dealing with a different approval framework from their neighbour whose child is at a Dubai school five minutes away.

Within Dubai, the mandatory UAE subjects apply regardless of curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools, with KHDA's requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Separate classes are required for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies; instructional time is calculated against a forty-minute lesson unit; and for the mandatory subjects, additional or different content needs prior permission from the Ministry of Education, which limits what any tutor may legitimately offer in them.

Where we tutor

Al Mamzar and the areas around it, read for IB supply

This is a dense, established part of Dubai with a particular curriculum mix. Each note is about what IB provision and tutor supply actually look like there.

Al Mamzar

Coastal and residential, against the Sharjah border. No IB school sits in the neighbourhood itself, so every Diploma family here commutes. Asking neighbours for a recommendation rarely helps, because few of them are in the same programme.

Hor Al Anz and Abu Hail

Immediately inland, dense, and served by the Green Line. Predominantly Indian-curriculum and Ministry-curriculum schools, which means the local tutoring market here is built around CBSE rather than around Diploma subjects.

Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

The nearest substantial international-curriculum cluster, including schools offering Diploma programmes. This is where most Al Mamzar IB students travel, and the nearest place a locally based Diploma tutor is likely to live.

Mirdif and Al Twar

Further east along the Sharjah corridor, with IB continuum provision. A realistic alternative commute for an Al Mamzar family, and the other direction in which Diploma tutor supply thins less sharply.

Oud Metha and Al Mankhool

Across the creek, with several long-established schools. The crossing at 3pm is the main variable in an afternoon, and it is why a family here with a Diploma student almost always ends up on evening sessions.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Towards the Sharjah boundary, with a large school cluster and strong local tutoring supply - overwhelmingly in CBSE subjects and Arabic rather than in Diploma subjects.

Deira and Al Muteena

The commercial centre of old Dubai, where many parents in this catchment work. Finishing after 6pm is normal, which makes an evening online session the only slot a parent can realistically be present for.

Across the boundary into Sharjah

Some families here have children at schools regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than KHDA. Border traffic makes any afternoon appointment unworkable, and the inspection framework is a different one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mamzar

Al Garhoud, Dubai Festival City and Oud Metha

The closest international-curriculum cluster to Al Mamzar, and where much of this neighbourhood's IB and IGCSE cohort travels. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; check each school's current programme authorisation and inspection report on KHDA's own site, because programme offers change between intakes.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Garhoud
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • Dubai English Speaking School
  • The Indian High School

Mirdif, Al Twar and Al Qusais

The eastern alternative, including IB continuum provision, and a shorter run than crossing the creek for many Al Mamzar households. Curriculum offerings here vary more than in New Dubai, so the regulator's school listing is the document to rely on rather than reputation.

  • Uptown International School
  • Westminster School Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level together

Higher or Standard, alongside the subject. Those two words determine whether we have someone suitable and how long a match takes, and a request that omits the level will come back with a question rather than a tutor.

  2. 02

Ask us about coverage before anything else

We will tell you whether the subject and level you need is well covered, thin, or unavailable at your preferred hour, and roughly how long a match takes. Ask every provider you speak to the same question; the answers are informative.

  3. 03

    Send a marked script

A marked paper lets us distinguish content gaps from unwritten method, misread command terms and running out of time. Those four need different work, and a predicted grade distinguishes none of them.

  4. 04

Run the three tests in the free trial

Ask the tutor what each paper is worth, ask them to name the internal assessment criteria and marks, and hand them the marked script to interpret. Ten minutes of that tells you more than any credential list.

  5. 05

Choose the slot by arrival reliability

The commute from Al Garhoud, Mirdif or across the creek varies by twenty-five minutes at 3pm. We will usually recommend the evening slot that depends on no road at all, unless the student travels by metro.

  6. 06

Expect us to say no sometimes

If four subjects are failing, if an internal assessment deadline is four days away, or if no suitable specialist exists for a thin requirement, we will say so. That is the point of publishing a coverage position rather than implying unlimited supply.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The coverage question answered in public

We publish which subjects and levels are well covered, which are thin and what the fallback is. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, which makes it the most useful question you can ask any provider.

Matched by subject and level

Higher and Standard Level diverge in content, papers and depth. A booking names both, because a tutor comfortable at one level is not automatically useful at the other and the difference shows within a fortnight.

Three tests you can run yourself

Paper weightings, internal assessment criteria, and interpreting a marked script. A parent does not need subject expertise to tell a tutor who knows the content from one who knows the course.

The pool is national, not local

IB provision concentrates away from Deira, and tutor supply follows it. Video delivery gives this neighbourhood the same pool as Al Barsha, which is a larger relative gain than it would be anywhere else in the city.

Honest about when tutoring is the wrong purchase

Four failing subjects is a workload problem, not four subject problems, and buying four tutors removes the hours independent work needs. We say that even though it costs us the sale.

No unverifiable credentials

We do not describe tutors as examiners without evidence, do not claim regulator approval we do not hold, and do not publish ratings that are not backed by countable reviews.

Student and parent reviews

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mamzar: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB tutor near Al Mamzar who knows my child's syllabus?+

Fewer than in Al Barsha, and the honest reason is geography. IB programmes are about 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school enrolment and they concentrate in Emirates Hills, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim and the New Dubai belt. The nearest provision to Al Mamzar is in Al Garhoud, Dubai Festival City and Mirdif. Tutor supply follows school supply, so a local search here produces a thin result for Diploma subjects. It produces a strong result for CBSE subjects and Arabic as a first language.

How can I tell whether a tutor knows the Diploma or just the subject?+

Three questions in a trial lesson will tell you, and you do not need subject expertise to ask them. First, what is each paper worth and what does the internal assessment contribute? Second, name the internal assessment criteria for this subject and the marks for each. Third, here is a marked script - what does the pattern of lost marks indicate? A tutor who knows the course answers all three without notes. One who proposes going through the whole syllabus has told you they cannot diagnose.

Which schools near Al Mamzar actually offer IB programmes?+

Not any in the neighbourhood itself. The nearest provision sits in Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, which is under twenty minutes outside peak traffic, with further IB continuum provision east in Mirdif. Everything else is a longer run towards Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim. Check each school's current programme authorisation on KHDA's own site rather than relying on reputation, because authorisation and the post-16 offer both change between intakes.

Can you tell me before I pay whether you have someone for Higher Level physics?+

Yes, and we think you should ask every provider that. Higher Level physics coverage is thinner than Biology or Economics, particularly for the fields theme, and a specific hour can take a week or two to match. If we cannot cover it we will say so and give you three alternatives: how long a match realistically takes, whether a Standard Level specialist can cover the shared content meanwhile, and whether the school's own department is the better route. No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit.

Do you visit homes in Al Mamzar?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Al Mamzar, in Dubai, or anywhere else in the UAE - a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. In-home tutoring exists in this market at published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, and that travel is longer to Al Mamzar than to most districts because IB-experienced tutors cluster nearer the schools that teach these programmes.

My son is failing four Diploma subjects. Should we hire four tutors?+

Almost certainly not, and this is the recommendation we most often give against our own interest. Four failing subjects is usually a workload, organisation or wellbeing problem rather than four separate subject problems, and four weekly tutors consume the hours in which independent work has to happen. The better first purchase is one person working on the layer underneath: planning backwards from internal deadlines, reading assessment criteria, revising against weightings. Then address one subject properly once the student has time to absorb it.

Why does nobody seem to cover Extended Essay supervision well?+

Because supervising an Extended Essay is a different skill from teaching the subject it sits in, and far fewer people have it. The work is about question viability, scope, methodology and the assessment criteria rather than about content. The school supervisor is the primary route and should stay so. What an outside tutor can usefully add is interrogating whether the research question is answerable within the word limit and the resources available, and giving feedback on a draft the student has written - never producing text.

Is a university-student tutor at AED 50 an hour ever the right choice?+

Sometimes, and it is worth saying so. Published rates at that level - roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour across this market - usually mean a university student, and for working through routine exercises, building arithmetic fluency, or supervised practice on content already taught, that can be entirely adequate. It is the wrong choice for diagnosing why a Higher Level grade has fallen, for internal assessment criteria work, or for judging whether an exploration topic can generate level-appropriate mathematics.

Does the Sharjah border affect our options if our school is across it?+

Yes, in two ways. Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than KHDA, and SPEA approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods - so curriculum approval, not just inspection, sits with the emirate. Practically, border traffic makes an afternoon tutoring appointment unrealistic from Al Mamzar, which means an evening online session is effectively the only workable option rather than merely the preferable one.

How quickly can a match be made for a Standard Level subject?+

Usually within a few days for the well-covered subjects - Biology, Economics, Business Management, English A and B, and mathematics at Standard Level. Thinner requirements take longer: Higher Level physics or chemistry, Applications and Interpretation Higher Level statistics, or a Group 2 language other than English or Arabic can take a week or two, and occasionally cannot be matched at a specific hour. We tell you which category you are in when you ask, rather than after you have paid.

What should a Primary Years Programme parent in this area actually buy?+

Rarely subject tutoring. The Primary Years Programme is inquiry-led with transdisciplinary themes and no published subject syllabus, which is why parents cannot look up what a child is meant to know and why anxiety fills the gap. The useful step is asking the class teacher which specific skill is below expectation - decoding, number fluency, written organisation, research habits - and addressing that. A generalist primary teacher is usually a better match than a subject specialist at this stage.

Can a tutor help with an internal assessment that is due in four days?+

Honestly, not much, and we will say so rather than taking the booking. Most internal assessment marks are decided at the design and planning stage - whether the question is answerable, whether the data can support analysis, whether reflection was written as the work progressed. Four days out, what remains is proofreading the student's own work for clarity against the criteria, which is legitimate and limited. Anything beyond that crosses into producing assessed work, and the risk of that falls entirely on the candidate.

Everyone advertising near here says 'examiner-led' - should that move my decision?+

We do not make that claim, and we would be cautious about any provider that does. Current examiner status cannot be verified by a parent, and examiner experience should never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. Several pages ranking in this market lean on examiner language and on self-published star ratings - one shows two different ratings and review counts on the same page. What we do state is the subject, the level and the coverage position, all of which you can test in a free trial lesson.

Which IB session do Dubai schools sit, and where do the dates come from?+

UAE schools sit the May session, with a November session also available. We publish no IB examination or results dates on these pages, because ibo.org blocks automated access and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. The school's Diploma coordinator holds the current dates, including the internal deadlines for internal assessments and the Extended Essay - and those internal deadlines, rather than the IB's own, are what actually govern your child's term.

Ask the coverage question first

If you are searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Mamzar, the most useful question is not who is closest. It is whether a provider can tell you, before you pay, that they have someone for your child's subject at your child's level and at an hour that works - and what they will do if they do not. Ask us that. Then send the subject, the level and a marked script, and test the match in a free trial using the three questions on this page. We do not visit homes in the UAE, and we would rather explain the supply position in this neighbourhood than imply it does not exist.
