IB IGCSE Tutor for Dwight School Dubai Students in Dubai

Parents searching for an IB IGCSE tutor for Dwight School Dubai students in Dubai usually want one number before anything else: what does this cost. This page answers that in AED first, with the source and the month each figure was read, then explains what moves the number up or down in this emirate. Lessons are delivered one-to-one online, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The cheapest hour and the cheapest outcome are not the same purchase

Begin at the bottom of the market, because that is where most Dubai parents begin. Online tutoring in this city is advertised from as little as AED 33 to 52 an hour by Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik. Those are real published rates and for some problems they are the correct purchase. A Year 7 student who needs someone sitting with them while they finish maths homework does not need a specialist, and paying AED 400 an hour for homework supervision is simply waste.

Move up a band and the rate roughly triples. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision at AED 200 to 450 and above. TutorChase quotes AED 270. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650 for examiner-led work. The spread between the floor and the ceiling of this market is roughly twentyfold, which is unusual and tells you the word "tutor" is covering several different jobs.

What separates the bands is not warmth or patience. It is whether the person in the session can read a mark scheme and say which component is leaking marks. A Dwight School Dubai Diploma student whose Chemistry Higher Level grade has slipped might have a content gap in energetics, or might be writing answers that would score in a school test and score nothing against a published criterion. Those need different people. At the bottom of the market both will be treated as a content problem; at the specialist end the two should be distinguishable from one marked script. That distinction, and almost nothing else, is what the extra AED 240 an hour is for.

It also explains why the bands are not really a quality ladder so much as a set of different products. A family that buys supervision when it needed diagnosis has not bought a worse version of the right thing. It has bought a different thing, competently delivered, that was never going to move the component in question. The reverse error is equally common and less often discussed: paying specialist rates so that a confident Year 8 student can be accompanied through homework they could finish alone.

So the useful framing for a budget is not cost per hour but cost per mark moved. Twelve hours at AED 70 that change nothing cost AED 840 and a term. Four hours at AED 280 that fix a diagnosable component cost AED 1,120 and leave the student able to do something they could not do before. Neither is automatically right. The decision depends on a diagnosis, which is why a marked timed paper comes before a quote on every plan here.

There is a second reason to think in cost per mark rather than cost per hour, and it is specific to the IB continuum that Dwight School Dubai runs. Because the Primary and Middle Years Programmes carry no external examinations, a family can spend steadily for years on sessions that feel productive and never test the assumption, because there is no external mark to check it against. The first hard external result arrives in the Diploma, by which point the habit is five years old. Building a cheap check into the plan early, in the form of a marked timed paper once a term, is the discipline that keeps the total honest.

One constraint applies to every figure below. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. That removes travel from the cost structure entirely, which matters in Al Barsha South, where a tutor crossing from Mirdif or Jumeirah at 4pm is paying for the journey in time whether or not it appears on the invoice.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai online rates run from roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour
  • Monthly estimates for one weekly hour: AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid, AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above specialist
  • In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 because travel is priced into the hour
  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27 under a AED 1.5 billion incentives package

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dwight School Dubai runs the IB continuum, so a family's tutoring spend is shaped by which stage the child is in. Cost concentrates sharply in the Diploma years and barely registers in the Primary Years Programme.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry with no external examinations. Tutoring at this stage is almost always about a specific skill: reading fluency, number bonds, written sentence structure, or English as an additional language. Short blocks of eight to twelve sessions are typical, and the rate sits in the lower market bands because specialist subject knowledge is not what is needed.

Dubai parents frequently start tutoring earlier than the need justifies, which inflates the lifetime spend without changing outcomes. The honest advice for a PYP family in Al Barsha South is to ask the class teacher whether the gap is developmental or genuine, and to buy a short diagnostic block rather than a standing weekly slot.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment with scores out of eight under lettered criteria. Costs stay moderate because there is no terminal examination, but this is the stage where cheap help is most likely to be wasted. A tutor who does not know what Criterion D rewards will teach content the student already has and the report will not move.

The MYP years are where a Dwight School Dubai family can spend least and gain most, because fixing algebraic fluency in Year 9 removes the need for expensive Diploma rescue work in Year 12. Market rates here sit around the AED 150 to 250 band for a tutor who knows the criteria.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. This is where Dubai tutoring budgets concentrate, because three Higher Levels, an Extended Essay and several Internal Assessments arrive in overlapping windows and families buy help for more than one at once.

Bestimate's specialist exam-year band of AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above per month assumes one subject at one session a week. A family buying two Higher Level subjects plus Internal Assessment process coaching is looking at a multiple of that, which is why sequencing matters more than intensity. UAE schools sit the May session; confirm every IB date with the school's coordinator.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where a Dubai family's tutoring money actually goes, and what the hour buys in each case. The subjects below carry the highest request volume from IB continuum schools in the Al Barsha and Dubai Hills corridor.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The most expensive subject to fix late, because the Higher Level content builds vertically. Energetics and organic mechanisms fail when bonding was never secure. A specialist hour at AED 250 to 400 in the market buys mechanism teaching; a budget hour buys revision of notes the student already owns.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Highest request volume at Diploma and the subject where rate and outcome correlate most strongly. Paper 3 at Higher Level is an extended investigation marked on reasoning. Teaching it requires someone who has marked one, which is a narrow pool and prices accordingly.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Often chosen as the lighter route and then found to be heavy in statistics and modelling. Technology use is assumed throughout, so a tutor must teach calculator technique as a marked skill rather than an aid. Cheaper to support than Analysis and Approaches because fewer hours are usually needed.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks concentrate in the data-based and extended-response questions, where units and significant figures are assessed alongside the physics. Many students arrive strong on recall and weak on deriving a relationship from a graph, which is four or five sessions of work rather than a term.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume of content makes this feel like the subject needing most hours, when the actual loss is usually command-word discipline. Distinguish, outline and evaluate demand different structures. Fixing that is cheap; re-teaching the whole syllabus is not and rarely helps.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Assessment is through oral and written components on unseen and studied texts. The cost driver is draft feedback, which is time-intensive per session. Process coaching on the Individual Oral is higher value per hour than general essay practice.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy carries marks that prose cannot recover. An unlabelled axis or a shift in the wrong direction loses the point regardless of the argument. Evaluation at Higher Level is a separate taught skill, and it is the single cheapest grade movement available in the subject.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers reward application to the stimulus. Students quote theory accurately and never mention the company in front of them. Quantitative tools at Higher Level are marked on method shown, so working must be written out rather than calculated mentally.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended

For families whose children transfer into a British-route school, the tier decides the grade ceiling: Core caps at grade 5, Extended reaches grade 9. Tutoring cost here is low relative to the consequence, because the decision is made on evidence a few timed papers can supply.

Arabic as an Additional Language

KHDA mandatory stream

Required in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed curriculum. KHDA mandates separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because expectations and language of instruction differ. A parent must know which stream applies before buying a single hour, or the content will be wrong.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three booking shapes with three different cost profiles. All are live one-to-one video with a named tutor; none involves travel to a UAE address, so no hour carries a journey.

Short diagnostic block, lowest total spend

Four to six sessions aimed at one component, bought as a block with a defined end. This is the lowest-cost way to find out whether tutoring is the right purchase at all, and it often concludes that a student needs a study-habit change rather than a weekly tutor.

  • Opens with a timed past paper marked against the published scheme
  • Written diagnosis naming components, not a predicted grade
  • Ends on a fresh paper so the spend is measured against evidence
  • No rolling commitment and no notice period

Standing weekly slot, predictable monthly cost

One subject, one hour a week, same time. The market comparison for this shape is Bestimate's monthly bands: AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. The value comes from accumulation rather than intensity.

  • Same tutor each week so context is not re-explained
  • Pauses during the school's own mock weeks rather than competing with them
  • Marked work returned so a parent can read progress
  • Post-Iftar timing available during Ramadan at no change in rate

Exam-term intensive, highest cost per month

Two or three sessions a week in the final stretch before a session, aimed at paper technique and timing rather than new content. This is the most expensive shape per month and the one most often bought too late to be the efficient choice.

  • Paper technique, timing and command words, not syllabus coverage
  • Works from the student's own marked scripts each session
  • Ends at the exam window, with no rollover
  • Cheaper the earlier the underlying diagnosis was done

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a year of IB tutoring actually costs a Dwight School Dubai family

Take one Higher Level subject at one session a week for a full academic year. At Bestimate's mid-market monthly band of AED 600 to 1,200 that is roughly AED 6,000 to 12,000 over ten months. At the specialist exam-year band of AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above it is AED 10,000 to 20,000 or more. Add a second Higher Level subject and the number doubles. Add Internal Assessment process coaching for two subjects and it rises again.

Set against that, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family whose school fee is flat, the tutoring line is the one that moves, and it is the line nobody budgets for in advance.

The practical conclusion is that sequencing beats volume. A family that diagnoses a Chemistry Higher Level problem in the first Diploma term and fixes it in six sessions spends a fraction of what the same family spends buying two years of weekly support for the same subject out of anxiety. Worth noting too that Dubai's school market keeps growing around these families: the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose six per cent. More places means more competition for the same specialist tutors in the 4pm to 6pm window, which is a supply story rather than a quality one. The table below sets out the arithmetic in context, using only published market figures and the KHDA announcement.

What actually moves the hourly rate in this emirate

Five variables account for most of the spread between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour in Dubai, and only two of them are about teaching quality. The first is the tutor's subject and level: Higher Level Chemistry and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches command more than general secondary maths because the pool of people who can teach them is small. The second is mark-scheme literacy, which is the ability to look at a script and name the component that is failing.

The third variable is travel, and it is larger than most parents assume. An in-home tutor crossing Dubai at 4pm can teach three sessions in an evening rather than five, and the rate carries that lost capacity. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. The fourth is scarcity by timing: the 4pm to 6pm weekday window is the only slot most families want, and good tutors fill it first.

The fifth is simply the claim being made. A page advertising examiner-led tuition at AED 650 is pricing a credential, and a parent should ask for evidence of current status rather than accepting the label. No tutor should be described as an IB or Cambridge examiner without that evidence, and examiner status should never be presented as access to marking, boundaries or paper content. Nor is a self-published star rating a pricing justification: one provider in this market shows two different review totals on the same page, which tells you how much weight to give the number. The table below separates the variables so a quote can be read properly.

Online one-to-one versus an in-home visit in Al Barsha South

In-home tutoring has real merits and it is worth naming them before the comparison. A tutor in the room keeps a younger or more distractible student on task with less effort. Written working is visible without a document camera. Some families simply learn better with a person present, and that preference is legitimate rather than something to be argued out of.

The cost of those merits in Al Barsha South is twofold. The visible cost is the travel premium inside the AED 180 to 500 in-home band. The invisible cost is the shortlist: a family in Arjan or Al Khail Gate is not choosing the strongest Higher Level Chemistry teacher available, but the strongest one who will drive there on a Tuesday. For a mainstream subject at a mainstream level that may be a short list with good names on it. For Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 3, it may be empty.

IB Gram removes the travel variable rather than discounting it. Lessons are delivered one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and no page here will suggest otherwise; home visits are offered only in India. What a family gains is the full specialist pool and a slot that can move at short notice. What a family gives up is a person in the room, which for a Diploma student is usually a smaller loss than the shortlist.

Where Diploma marks are lost, so you buy the right hours

  • Science losses cluster in data analysis and extended response, not recall
  • Mathematics losses are usually algebraic fluency inside understood topics
  • Internal Assessment losses are structural: question scope, data fit, evaluation
  • Each failure type needs a different hour, which is why the diagnosis comes first

A cost page is useless without this section, because the hour only pays for itself if it is aimed at the right thing. In the Diploma sciences, the losses concentrate in the data-based and extended-response questions rather than in recall. A student who knows the content and cannot derive a relationship from a graph will be told they need more revision, which is the expensive wrong answer.

In Mathematics, the failure is usually algebraic fluency inside otherwise understood topics. A student can explain the calculus and still lose the marks because the manipulation in the middle of the question breaks down. This is why fixing algebra in the Middle Years Programme is the cheapest intervention available in the whole continuum and rescuing it in Year 12 is among the most expensive.

In Internal Assessments across subjects, the losses are structural: a research question too broad to answer in the word limit, data that does not support the claim being made, evaluation that lists limitations without weighing them. None of that is content and none of it is fixed by more revision. It is fixed by criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft, which is a different kind of hour and should be bought as one.

There is a fourth pattern that costs families the most and is the hardest to see from a report card. A student who has quietly stopped attempting the last section of every paper because they ran out of time is losing a fixed block of marks every single assessment, and no amount of content teaching will recover it. The remedy is timed practice with a stopwatch and a deliberate decision about which questions to attempt first, which takes three or four sessions. Ask for the script, not the grade, and count how many questions were left blank.

05

The exam calendar, and why late help costs more

Tutoring bought in the final six weeks before a session is the most expensive form of the same purchase, because at that point only paper technique and timing can still move, and content gaps are no longer repairable. The calendar is therefore a cost document as much as a scheduling one. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series; the February and March series is India-only, so a Dubai candidate sits June or November.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those past dates are cited so a parent can verify them. For any future series, read the live official timetable on the board's site rather than a restated date.

For the Diploma, UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no IB exam or results date because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a page a parent acts on is worse than none; confirm every deadline with the Dwight School Dubai Diploma coordinator. What matters commercially is that the school's internal Internal Assessment deadlines sit ahead of the IB's, and those are the dates a tutoring plan should be priced against.

Who is legally permitted to charge you for tutoring in Dubai

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Eligibility includes school teachers, employees, unemployed residents and students aged 15 to 18
  • No fine amounts are published, so none should be quoted to a parent
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit covers training institutes with premises; IB Gram has none

Price is not the only thing to check about a tutor. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Two points follow. First, because the permit is free of charge, no tutor can reasonably present a licensing cost as a reason for a higher rate. Second, individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone, and a figure circulating in the market could not be verified against an official source.

There is a separate question for anything with premises. A tutoring operation with staff and a location in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit issued to training institutes, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and does not describe itself or any tutor as KHDA-approved. Any provider using that phrase should be asked to produce the permit number.

07

What a tutor may not be paid to do

  • Teaching, criterion explanation and questioning the student's own draft: legitimate
  • Writing, rewriting or supplying submitted text or data: never, at any rate
  • Official board material is linked at source, not redistributed
  • A completed Internal Assessment for sale is a risk transferred to the student

Some of what is for sale in this market should not be bought at any price. At least one page competing for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments. The fee is real and so is the consequence, which falls on the student as an academic-honesty finding rather than on the seller. A family paying for coursework is buying a malpractice risk with their own child's name on it.

The legitimate version is clear enough to hold a tutor to. A tutor may teach the content an assessment rests on, explain what each published criterion rewards, help narrow a research question until it fits the word limit, confirm that a data collection plan is viable, read a draft the student wrote and ask the questions an examiner would ask, and teach referencing properly. That is a well-defined and valuable hour.

A tutor may not write, rewrite or restructure the work, supply text for submission, choose the research question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit until the sentences stop being the student's. Nor should a tutor supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those are cited and linked at source. Ask where the line sits before the first paid session, and treat a flexible answer as information.

It is worth being direct about why this is a cost section rather than an ethics aside. Coursework sold as finished work is priced as a product, often in the low thousands of dirhams, and it appears cheaper than the hours of teaching it replaces. The price it does not show is the academic-honesty investigation, the withdrawn result and the university offer that depends on it. Measured against that, criterion-based feedback on the student's own draft is not the expensive option; it is the only option with a predictable outcome.

08

Availability, fallback, and what happens if we cannot help

  • Scarce components are named rather than quietly covered by a generalist
  • A realistic timescale is given instead of an immediate yes
  • The free trial is one session, no card required, so a wrong match costs an hour
  • If nobody suitable is available, that is stated rather than worked around

No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is itself informative. The honest position is that specialist supply is finite, and the scarcest combinations are the ones families most often need in a hurry: Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 3, Chemistry Higher Level mechanisms, a less commonly taught Diploma language, IGCSE Computer Science pseudocode to the specification style.

When a specialist is not free at the time requested, a family is told so, with the realistic timescale and the alternatives, rather than matched to a generalist who will learn the specification alongside the student. That is the single most common way tutoring money is wasted in Dubai, and it is avoidable by asking one question: does the person teaching this actually teach it weekly at this level?

The free trial lesson exists to make the cost of a wrong match one hour instead of a term. It is free with no card required, and the only condition is that it is a single session so both sides can judge fit. If the match is wrong, say so and a different specialist is proposed. If no specialist exists for the component, that is said plainly too, because sending a parent away is cheaper for them than taking their money.

One further disclosure belongs here. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available for a subject, the tutor teaching the session may be based elsewhere, working to Gulf Standard Time. That is stated rather than concealed, because several providers in this market route UAE parents to numbers in other countries without saying where the teaching happens. It makes no difference to an online lesson, but a parent is entitled to know it before they book rather than to work it out from an area code.

Where we tutor

Al Barsha South and the Al Khail corridor

Dwight School Dubai sits in the Al Barsha South and Al Khail belt, surrounded by newer villa and apartment communities whose residents mostly arrived in the last decade. Local tuition supply here is thin relative to demand, which is itself a price factor.

Al Barsha South

The school's immediate community, dominated by mid-rise apartments and compact villas. Short school runs mean a 4.30pm session is workable, which is the cheapest slot in the week in time terms.

Dubai Hills Estate

Large villa plots and a growing school-age population with budgets at the upper end of the market. Demand here pushes in-home rates toward the AED 350 to 500 top of Bestimate's range simply because families will pay it.

Al Quoz and Al Khail Gate

A mixed industrial and residential strip with almost no local tuition market. For families here the online rate is not a compromise; it is the only route to a Higher Level specialist.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Triangle

Dense apartment communities with the city's youngest demographic profile. Shared-sibling tutoring questions come up constantly, which changes the per-child arithmetic.

Arjan and Dubailand

Newer towers with long drives to most established schools. The travel premium on an in-home tutor is highest here, which is where the online saving is largest in absolute AED.

Motor City and Sports City

Settled communities with their own school stock, so families often compare a British-route and an IB continuum option within the same postcode and need cross-board cost advice.

Al Barsha 1, 2 and 3

Older, denser and closer to Sheikh Zayed Road. Afternoon traffic through Al Barsha makes a 5pm in-home start unreliable, and a wasted journey is still a billed hour with most independent tutors.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha South, Al Khail and Dubai Hills

The cluster around Dwight School Dubai mixes IB continuum and British-route provision within a few kilometres, so families here genuinely compare the two cost structures rather than inheriting one. IGCSE and Diploma questions arrive from the same street.

Motor City, Sports City and Arjan

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what the budget and the problem are

A short conversation covering the subject, the level, the component, the deadline and what you are willing to spend. Naming the budget early is not a weakness; it decides whether a short diagnostic block or a standing weekly slot is the sensible shape, and those have very different monthly costs.

  2. 02

Buy one marked paper before anything else

A timed past paper under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme. This is the cheapest hour available and the one that determines every hour after it, because it separates content gaps from method, timing and command-word failures. The output is a written diagnosis naming components.

Take the free trial with the actual specialist

One session with the tutor who would teach the subject at that level, free and with no card required. The condition is that it is a single session. A trial with a different person from the one who would teach the block tells you nothing, so ask who you are meeting.

  4. 04

Run the agreed block and read the marked work

Weekly one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time, with each session opening on the previous week's marked question. Marked scripts come back to the parent so the spend is visible against evidence rather than against a feeling that things are going better.

  5. 05

Re-test, then stop or continue deliberately

At the end of the block the student sits a fresh paper under the same conditions. Either the component moved or it did not. If it did not, the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes. Continuing an unchanged plan is how a Dubai family spends five figures without moving a grade.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands on this page name who published them and the month they were read. Three of the strongest pages competing for these searches publish no price at all, and two quote United States dollars. A parent cannot judge a quote without knowing the market, so the market is published here.

No travel inside the hour

Because lessons are online, nothing in the rate pays for a drive across Al Barsha South at 4pm. That is most of the gap between the online and in-home bands, and removing it is a straight saving rather than a reduction in teaching time.

The specialist pool, not the local pool

A family in Arjan or Al Khail Gate choosing an in-home tutor is choosing from whoever will drive there. Online, the choice is whoever teaches that component weekly. For Higher Level Chemistry or Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 the difference is not marginal.

Diagnosis before quote

A plan is written against a marked script, naming the component that is leaking marks. A quote given before anybody has read the student's work is a guess, and a guess is how families buy twelve hours of the wrong thing at a good hourly rate.

The honesty line stated in advance

A tutor teaches, explains criteria, questions a draft and checks referencing. A tutor does not write an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay, at any price. In a market where completed coursework is openly for sale, that boundary is worth stating before money changes hands.

Coverage limits disclosed

If no specialist is free for the component you need at the time you need it, you are told, with the timescale. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit. Being told no quickly is cheaper for a family than being matched to someone who will learn the specification as they go.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should a Dwight School Dubai family expect to pay for IB tutoring per month?+

Bestimate's published Dubai estimates for one weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 for budget provision, AED 600 to 1,200 for a mid-market qualified tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. One Higher Level subject at a session a week therefore runs roughly AED 6,000 to 20,000 across a ten-month year depending on tier. Two Higher Level subjects plus Internal Assessment coaching multiplies that. These are market figures read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list; ask about the free trial lesson and the consultation for our own rates.

Why is there a twentyfold gap between the cheapest and dearest tutors in Dubai?+

Because the word covers several different jobs. At AED 33 to 65 an hour you are buying supervision and content recap, which is appropriate for a younger student finishing homework. At AED 150 to 300 you are buying subject expertise at a named level. At AED 200 to 450 and above you are buying someone who can read a script against a published mark scheme and name the failing component. At AED 650, as BartyED publishes, you are buying a scarce credential and should ask for evidence of it. The spread reflects what the hour does, not how kind the person is.

Does the in-home premium buy better teaching or just travel?+

Mostly travel, with one genuine exception. The in-home band of AED 180 to 500 reflects that a tutor crossing Dubai at 4pm teaches three sessions in an evening rather than five, and the rate carries the lost capacity. The real non-travel benefit is for younger or more distractible students, who stay on task more easily with a person in the room. For a Diploma student working on Paper 3 technique, the benefit is small and the cost of the narrower local shortlist is large. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case; delivery is online one-to-one.

Is it cheaper to put two children with the same tutor?+

It usually is in an in-home arrangement, because one journey covers two sessions, and that is a large part of why families do it. Online it rarely makes sense, since there is no travel to amortise and the two children almost never need the same subject at the same level. The thing being saved is logistics and the thing being spent is subject fit: a tutor strong in Higher Level Chemistry is not automatically the right person for a Year 8 maths gap. Separate specialists in separate slots costs more per hour and usually less per mark moved.

When is the cheapest time in the Diploma to buy tutoring?+

As early as the problem is visible. Fixing algebraic fluency during the Middle Years Programme is the lowest cost per mark available anywhere in the IB continuum, because it prevents the Year 12 rescue work that is among the most expensive. The most costly purchase is the final six weeks before a session, when only timing and paper technique can still move and content gaps are no longer repairable. A family that diagnoses in the first Diploma term and fixes in six sessions spends a fraction of one that buys two years of weekly support out of anxiety.

Has the KHDA fee freeze changed what families spend on tutoring?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That holds the largest education line in a household budget flat. It does not cap tutoring, which is an unregulated private market and the line that actually moves year to year. The practical effect for many Dubai families is simply that the tutoring decision is now the discretionary education decision, which is a reason to make it on evidence rather than on worry.

Do I pay more because a tutor holds a UAE permit?+

You should not. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so there is no licensing cost to pass on. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service via its smart app, website and e-services system. Anyone presenting a permit fee as a reason for a higher rate is describing a cost that does not exist.

What does a package rate hide?+

Check the per-hour figure inside it. Monthly packages in the Dubai market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. The first works out around AED 100 an hour, which places it in the budget band regardless of how the package is described. The second is roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour including travel. Also ask what happens to unused sessions, whether the slot is held during school mock weeks, and whether the tutor named at sign-up is the tutor who teaches every session. Packages are not worse value; they are just harder to read.

Can we pause tutoring during exams and the heaviest coursework weeks?+

Yes, and for most students it is the right call rather than a concession. A standing weekly slot that runs straight through a school mock series competes with the thing it is meant to support, and the student arrives unprepared for both. Pausing during mock weeks and the busiest Internal Assessment windows also reduces the monthly spend in exactly the months when a family is least able to use the hour well. Because lessons are online and nobody has committed a journey, a pause costs nothing and the same tutor and slot can be resumed afterwards.

How does Ramadan timing affect sessions and rates?+

Timing changes, the rate does not. Sessions can move to post-Iftar slots for the month and return to the usual time afterwards, with the same tutor. Because delivery is online there is no journey to reschedule and no travel cost to re-price, which is one of the practical reasons Dubai families find the online shape easier through Ramadan than an in-home arrangement. School days are shortened during the month, so some families use the earlier afternoon for a session instead and keep evenings clear. Decide which shape you want before the month starts rather than mid-way.

Will the AED rate I am quoted be the amount on the invoice?+

Ask directly and get the answer in writing, for any provider. This page will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and the question turns on the provider's own registration and the nature of the service. What a parent can reasonably insist on is a clear statement of whether the number quoted to them is the number they will be charged, and a tax registration number if one is held. A rate quoted without that clarity can move by five per cent between the conversation and the invoice.

Is there any point paying for a tutor if my child is already passing?+

Sometimes, and the test is whether a specific component is capped rather than whether the overall grade looks acceptable. A Diploma student at a 5 in Chemistry Higher Level who cannot structure an extended-response answer has a ceiling that will not lift with more revision, and six sessions on that one skill may be good value. A student passing comfortably across the board with no identifiable component failure probably does not need a weekly tutor, and buying one is how families spend steadily without changing anything. Sit one timed paper and let the marked script decide.

What if we start and the tutor is not right for my child?+

Say so early rather than giving it a term. The free trial lesson exists precisely so that a mismatch costs one hour instead of three months, and it is free with no card required on the condition that it is a single session. If the fit is wrong after the trial or after the first few sessions, a different specialist is proposed. A provider that resists this is protecting a booking rather than a student. The question worth asking at sign-up is who exactly will teach each session, because a named match that becomes a rota is the commonest version of this problem.

Can a tutor be paid to help with the Extended Essay at Dwight School Dubai?+

A tutor can be paid to teach the subject knowledge the essay rests on, explain what each published criterion rewards, help narrow the research question until it is answerable within the word limit, check that the research approach is viable, read a draft the student has written and ask the questions an examiner would ask, and teach referencing properly. A tutor cannot be paid to write, rewrite or restructure it, to choose the question, or to supply text for submission. The essay carries the student's name. Any service selling completed coursework is transferring a malpractice risk to your child in exchange for a fee.

Price the diagnosis before you price the term

If you are weighing up what to spend on tutoring for a child at Dwight School Dubai, the cheapest useful purchase is one marked timed paper and a written diagnosis naming the component that is leaking marks. That single document tells you whether you are buying six sessions or two years, and those differ by an order of magnitude in AED. Book the free trial lesson with the specialist who would actually teach the subject, read the diagnosis, and then decide on the shape. Lessons run one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time, with no travel priced into the hour and marked work returned every week.
