IB IGCSE Tutor for Deira International School Students in Dubai

An IB IGCSE tutor for Deira International School students in Dubai works on one thing at a time: the component that is costing marks. Sessions run live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time, so a lesson can start at 4.30pm after the Festival City school run and finish before dinner. The first conversation is about which paper, which syllabus code and which topic, not a general promise of improvement.

  • Lessons delivered live online, one-to-one, never at a UAE address
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE syllabus codes named in every plan
  • Core and Extended tiering checked before any revision timetable is built
  • Internal Assessment work is reviewed, never written for the student

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Start with the paper, not the subject

A parent at Deira International School rarely needs help with "Maths". They need help with Paper 4 of Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, where the extended-response questions carry method marks the student is not collecting, or with Paper 6 of Chemistry 0620, where an alternative-to-practical answer loses marks for naming a control variable instead of describing how it was kept constant. Those are different problems with different fixes, and a tutor who cannot tell them apart will spend eight weeks re-teaching content the student already knows.

So the opening question on this page is narrow on purpose: which component, which code, which topic. Deira International School runs the IB continuum alongside a British secondary route, which means a single family can be holding a Year 10 IGCSE timetable for one child and an MYP report for another. The two are assessed by completely different machinery. IGCSE grades come from terminal written papers sat in a single series. MYP and IB Diploma grades come from a mix of internally assessed coursework and externally marked examinations, with criterion-referenced descriptors doing the work that a mark scheme does at IGCSE.

This page is built around that distinction. It names the syllabus codes a Deira International School student is likely to be entered for, sets out where the marks actually go in each component, and says what a one-to-one session can change in six weeks versus six months. It also publishes what the Dubai tutoring market charges in AED, because three of the six strongest pages ranking for this search publish no price at all and two quote United States dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in.

The delivery model is stated once, plainly, and it does not change anywhere on this page. Tutoring for families in Dubai is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. A Festival City family therefore chooses from specialists in a particular subject and level rather than from whoever happens to drive to Al Badia in under twenty-five minutes, and the session time is set by the student's timetable rather than by Al Rebat Street at 5pm.

One more thing is worth saying before the detail. A grade that has slipped is almost never a sign that a student has stopped being able to do the subject. It is usually a sign that one specific thing has gone unaddressed long enough to compound: an algebraic technique that was shaky in Year 9, a habit of answering the question the student expected rather than the one printed, a reading speed that makes the last twenty marks unreachable. Each of those is identifiable from a marked script in under an hour, and each has a different remedy. Guessing costs a term.

What follows is organised the way a diagnostic conversation runs. First the components and codes. Then the tiering decision that quietly sets the grade ceiling. Then the market rate in AED with its source. Then the calendar counted backwards from the June and November series, the regulator, the academic-honesty boundary, and finally what a Deira International School leaver needs for a UAE university.

At a glance

  • Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended caps at grade 9; Core caps at grade 5
  • IGCSE science Paper 6 is the alternative-to-practical paper, marked on experimental method
  • Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE centres; the February/March series is India-only
  • IB Diploma Internal Assessments are marked against lettered criteria, not a mark scheme
  • The MoE counts five accredited IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 and above, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Deira International School families usually need one of three things: MYP support that will matter at Diploma, an IGCSE route through Years 10 and 11, or Diploma Programme work where the Internal Assessment and the final papers are running in parallel. Each is listed with what it actually assesses.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP reports arrive as criterion scores out of eight, grouped under letters: A for knowing and understanding, B for investigating patterns or inquiring, C for communicating, D for applying mathematics or science in real-life contexts. A student can be strong on A and weak on D and still look average overall, which is why a parent reading a single 1-7 summary grade cannot tell what to fix. A tutor starts by separating the criteria.

At Deira International School the MYP sits upstream of both the Diploma and the British route, so MYP Year 9 work is the last point at which a student can change direction cheaply. Dubai parents often discover the gap in the first Diploma term instead, when Maths Analysis and Approaches assumes an algebraic fluency the MYP criterion descriptors never explicitly demanded.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years, terminal papers, no coursework in most subjects. A student sits between six and ten subjects, each graded 9-1 or A*-G depending on the syllabus. The grade comes almost entirely from papers written in one series, which makes IGCSE unusually responsive to tutoring: paper technique, timing and command-word reading move marks within weeks because they are the same skills in every question.

Dubai candidates sit the June series as the main window and the November series as the resit route. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and the correct zone timetable must be used; Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. A Festival City family should confirm the school's zone with the exams officer rather than reading a generic timetable online.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. The six subject grades total 42 points and the core adds up to three more. The pressure point is rarely the final paper; it is the Internal Assessment deadline landing in the same fortnight as a mock series and an Extended Essay draft.

UAE schools sit the May session. IB session and results dates are not published on this page because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified date is worse than no date; confirm every deadline with the Deira International School Diploma coordinator. What a tutor can do is work backwards from the school's own internal deadlines, which are usually set weeks ahead of the IB's.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects most often requested by families at Deira International School and neighbouring Festival City, Mirdif and Nadd Al Hamar schools. Each entry says what the assessment actually rewards, because that is where a session earns its fee.

Mathematics (Cambridge IGCSE 0580)

Core and Extended

Extended Paper 2 and Paper 4 reward written method. Students who calculate correctly on a calculator and write only the answer lose the method marks that separate a 7 from a 9. The fix is mechanical: set out working in lines, label each step, and show the substitution before the result.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The HL course expects algebraic manipulation to be automatic so that the calculus and proof content has room to breathe. Most Diploma students arriving from MYP can do the calculus and stumble on the algebra inside it. Paper 3 at HL is the extended investigation and is marked on reasoning, not speed.

Physics (Cambridge IGCSE 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and magnetism produce the widest mark spread. Circuit questions fail when a student cannot read a series-parallel diagram under time pressure. Paper 6 asks for experimental description: sources of error, how a variable was controlled, how a reading was made more reliable. That paper is learnable in four sessions.

Chemistry (Cambridge IGCSE 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles and stoichiometry are where Extended candidates lose the most, followed by organic reaction pathways. Marks go to the units and the significant figures almost as often as the arithmetic. Qualitative analysis tables are pure recall and are worth drilling because they are free marks for the student who learned them.

Biology (Cambridge IGCSE 0610)

Core and Extended

The command words decide the grade. Describe, explain, compare and suggest demand different answer shapes, and a student who writes a description when asked to explain scores nothing for correct biology. Transport in plants and human physiology diagrams repay drawing practice over reading.

English Language (Cambridge IGCSE 0500 and 0990)

First Language

Directed writing and the composition paper reward register control: audience, purpose and form before content. Reading questions on the summary task are marked on selection, not on fluency, so a student who writes beautifully and selects badly plateaus around a 6.

Economics (IB DP and IGCSE 0455)

HL, SL and IGCSE

Diagram accuracy carries the marks. An axis unlabelled or a shift drawn in the wrong direction costs the point no matter how good the prose is. At HL the evaluation paragraph is a separate skill from the explanation and must be taught as one.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers reward application to the stimulus rather than textbook recall. Students quote theory correctly and never touch the company in front of them. Quantitative tools at HL, including break-even and investment appraisal, are marked on method shown.

Computer Science (IGCSE 0478)

Core content and pseudocode

Paper 1 is theory and Paper 2 is problem solving with pseudocode and flowcharts. Students who can write Python and cannot write the specification's pseudocode style lose marks for syntax that would run perfectly in an editor. Trace tables are the single highest-yield drill.

Arabic as an Additional Language

KHDA mandatory stream

Required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, so a tutor must know which stream the student sits in before planning a single lesson.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Deira International School family books one-to-one online tuition. All three are live video with a named tutor; none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one on a single component

One subject, one hour, same slot each week, aimed at a named paper or criterion. This is the format that works for a Year 10 student eighteen months out from the June series, because the gain comes from accumulated paper practice rather than from intensity.

  • Same tutor and same slot each week so the student stops re-explaining context
  • Each session opens on the previous week's marked question
  • Progress tracked against the component, not against a general sense of confidence
  • Pauses during the school's own mock weeks rather than running through them

Six-week component repair

A fixed, short block aimed at one diagnosable failure: Paper 6 experimental description, or extended-response method marks in Maths 0580, or the evaluation paragraph in Economics. It ends when the component is fixed rather than rolling on indefinitely.

  • Starts with a past paper sat under timed conditions and marked against the published scheme
  • A written diagnosis naming topics and command words, not a grade prediction
  • Two sessions a week during the block, then a re-test on an unseen paper
  • Honest exit: if the diagnosis was wrong, the block changes rather than continues

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay process coaching

For Diploma students at Deira International School, the work is on method and structure: narrowing a research question, checking a data collection plan is viable, reading a draft and asking the question the examiner would ask. The student writes every word.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against the published descriptors
  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable in the word limit
  • No drafting, no rewriting, no supplying text to be submitted
  • Timed to the school's internal deadlines, which sit ahead of the IB's

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB IGCSE tutor for Deira International School students actually does

  • Session one is a timed past paper, marked against the published scheme
  • The plan names the paper and the topic, not just the subject
  • Marked work returns weekly so progress is visible rather than asserted
  • No grade promises, from any tutor, at any price

An IB IGCSE tutor for Deira International School students in Dubai teaches one named subject at one named level against a specific assessment component, online and one-to-one. The first session is diagnostic: a past paper or a marked school assessment, read against the published mark scheme, to establish whether the problem is content, method, timing or command-word reading. Those four failures look identical on a report card and need entirely different work.

The reason this matters at Deira International School in particular is that the school runs both the IB continuum and a British secondary pathway. A Year 11 student may be sitting Cambridge IGCSE papers while a sibling two years above is managing Diploma Internal Assessments. A tutor who treats both as "IB tutoring" will apply criterion-referenced feedback to a paper that is marked by a point-based scheme, which wastes sessions. The honest version is that these are two separate skill sets and a family should ask which one a tutor actually holds.

What a session does not do is promise an outcome. No tutor can commit to a grade, and any page that does is telling you something about itself. What a session can commit to is a diagnosis you can read, a plan written against syllabus codes and component weightings, and marked work coming back each week so the parent can see movement or the absence of it. Lessons are delivered online over live video; IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE.

02

The components and codes a Deira International School student is entered for

Before any revision plan is useful, a parent needs to know which syllabus the school entered the child for. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both offer International GCSEs in the same subjects with different codes, different paper structures and different tiering rules. A revision guide bought for the wrong board teaches content that will not be examined. The exams officer at the school can confirm every code in one email, and that email is worth more than a term of guesswork.

The table below sets out the codes most often seen in Dubai British-route cohorts, with what each paper actually tests. Note that the science practical is assessed by a written alternative-to-practical paper in most centres, not by a lab examination. That single fact changes how a student should revise: the marks come from describing method, identifying variables and spotting sources of error, which can be practised at a desk.

A tutor working with a Deira International School student should be able to name the paper number and its weighting in the first conversation. If the answer is a general statement about covering the syllabus, the plan has not been built yet. Always read the live official syllabus document on the board's own site rather than relying on a summary, because specifications are revised and a two-year-old PDF is a liability. The same applies to past papers and mark schemes: use the official source, and treat any tutor who offers to send you a folder of board material as a copyright and malpractice risk rather than a convenience. Exactly one syllabus code appears across the entire seven-page Dubai area cluster that competes for these searches, which is the gap this page is filling.

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the grade ceiling

In tiered Cambridge IGCSE subjects, the entry tier decides the highest grade available before the student writes a word. Core entry in Mathematics 0580 caps the result at grade 5; Extended entry reaches grade 9 but asks harder questions across the whole paper. Schools make this decision in Year 10 or early Year 11, usually on the evidence of internal assessments, and parents frequently do not realise a decision has been taken until the grade arrives.

This is the single most consequential conversation a Dubai parent can have with a subject teacher, and it is worth having early. A student placed on Core who is genuinely a borderline 5 or 6 has their ceiling lowered for the sake of a safer floor. A student pushed onto Extended who cannot yet handle the algebra may score lower than they would have on Core. Neither error is recoverable once entries are submitted, and entry deadlines sit months before the exam window.

What tutoring changes here is the evidence base. Six weeks of timed Extended papers, marked honestly, tells a family and a teacher more than a predicted grade does. If the student is collecting marks on the Extended paper, the case for Extended entry writes itself. If they are not, the family has made an informed choice rather than a hopeful one. Tiering exists in several Cambridge subjects beyond Mathematics, and the equivalent decision in the separate sciences is which paper route the centre enters the candidate for, so ask about each subject rather than assuming one answer covers the timetable. The table below sets out what each tier actually means.

What IB and IGCSE tutoring costs in the Dubai market

Start from the monthly number, because that is the one a family actually budgets. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month for budget provision, AED 600 to 1,200 for a mid-market qualified tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are market figures from a published source, not an IB Gram price list.

Hourly, the Dubai market sorts into recognisable bands. EdFlik publishes online rates from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 at the budget end. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision at AED 200 to 450 and above, with in-home visits at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. BartyED sits at AED 650 at the examiner-led end. Monthly packages seen in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Two things are worth noticing. First, the in-home premium is largely travel: a tutor crossing Dubai at 4pm can teach three sessions in an evening instead of four or five, and the rate carries that. Second, the cheapest hour is not the cheapest outcome. A student who needs Paper 6 method language fixed and gets generic content revision has bought twelve hours that changed nothing. For IB Gram's own rates, the free trial lesson and the consultation are the place to ask; this page quotes the market, with sources, rather than inventing a price.

Online versus a tutor at the door in Festival City

The honest comparison starts by taking home tutoring seriously. A tutor in the room has real advantages: a younger student stays on task more easily, handwriting and working-out are visible without a document camera, and some families simply prefer it. Those are genuine reasons and the market prices them accordingly, at AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's figures and up to AED 500 from independent home tutors.

What a Festival City family is buying at that premium is mostly travel. The eastern Dubai catchment is spread across Mirdif, Al Warqa, Nadd Al Hamar and Al Qusais, and a tutor who lives in one of them is not a realistic weekday proposition for a family in another. The practical consequence is a narrower choice: not the best Chemistry 0620 teacher available, but the best one who can reach your address by 5pm. For a mainstream subject that may be fine. For IGCSE Computer Science 0478 pseudocode or Diploma Maths Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3, the local pool may be one person or none.

IB Gram's answer is to drop the travel constraint entirely. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and no page here will tell you otherwise; home visits are an India-only service. The gain is subject depth and scheduling freedom; the cost is that a parent has to be deliberate about the first ten minutes of a young student's session. The table below sets out the trade honestly.

The exam calendar counted backwards from the June series

Almost nobody writing about Dubai tutoring mentions an exam session at all, which is strange, because the session is the only fixed point in the year. Everything else is negotiable. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only; a UAE candidate sits June or November, and any page telling a Dubai parent otherwise is giving them a date they cannot act on.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are past dates, cited so a parent can check them. For any future series, read the live official timetable on the board's own site rather than a restated date, because provisional timetables are revised.

Counted backwards, the useful fact is that the final entry deadline sits months before the paper. A tiering decision therefore has to be made while the student still has most of the course left to learn, which is exactly why the diagnostic work belongs in Year 10 rather than the spring of Year 11. For IB Diploma dates, work from the school's internal deadlines: Deira International School sets its own Internal Assessment and Extended Essay dates ahead of the IB's, and those are the ones that govern a student's term.

KHDA, the regulator, and what an inspection band actually tells you

  • KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on six bands, Outstanding to Very Weak
  • Read the subject-level commentary, not only the headline band
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes with premises; IB Gram holds none

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which the UAE government describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. ADEK is named by none of the competing pages in this market and SPEA by one, which tells you how shallow the regulatory coverage is elsewhere.

An inspection band is a judgement about a school, not about a child. A Very Good school still has a bottom set in Chemistry, and an Acceptable school still produces grade 9s. What the report is genuinely useful for is the subject-level commentary: the inspection text usually names attainment and progress by subject and phase, which tells a parent where the school's own data says students are strong and where they are not. That is the paragraph to read before deciding what to tutor.

Two regulatory facts are worth holding. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, and combined classes strictly prohibited. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a specific licence issued to training institutes. IB Gram does not hold one and does not claim one; no tutor anywhere should be described as KHDA-approved unless that permit can be shown.

08

Academic honesty: what a tutor may touch and what they may not

  • Teaching, criterion explanation and questioning a student's own draft: allowed
  • Writing, rewriting or supplying text or data for submission: not allowed
  • Official syllabus and past-paper material is linked and cited, never redistributed
  • The student's name on the work means the words are the student's

This matters more in the Dubai market than it should, because at least one page competing for this search sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and the student carries the consequence, not the seller. The boundary is not subtle and it is worth stating in plain words so a family can hold any tutor to it.

A tutor may teach the subject content an assessment rests on. They may explain the published criteria and what each letter rewards. They may help narrow a research question until it is answerable within the word limit. They may read a draft the student wrote and ask the questions an examiner would ask: is this claim supported, does this graph show what you say it shows, where is the evaluation. They may teach referencing conventions and check that a bibliography is complete. All of that is teaching.

A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure or supply text for submission. They may not provide a dataset the student did not collect, choose the research question themselves, or edit a draft to the point where the sentences are no longer the student's. They may not supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those are cited and linked to the official source, not reproduced. Ask any prospective tutor where their line sits before the first session, and be wary of an answer that sounds flexible.

09

MoE equivalency for a Deira International School leaver

A student finishing the British route at a Dubai school and applying to a UAE university needs their certificate equivalated by the Ministry of Education. The published British-track requirement is specific: proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, plus passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects.

That five-subject count is worth repeating because a page currently ranking in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. It is five, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, from the Ministry's own clarification. Getting this wrong has a practical cost: a family that believes six are required may push a child into a subject they do not need and lose the revision hours it consumes.

For the American track, English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No IB points threshold is published in the source behind these figures, so this page does not state one; a Diploma family should confirm the IB requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority directly. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs. IB Gram does not perform it, guarantee it, or speed it up, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

Where Deira International School students actually live

Deira International School sits in Dubai Festival City, and its catchment runs across the older eastern districts rather than the Marina corridor. Session timing is set by what the drive home does to the evening, which is why online delivery changes the arithmetic for these families specifically.

Dubai Festival City

The school's own community. A 4pm finish and a five-minute drive means a 4.45pm session is realistic on a weekday, which is the earliest slot any Dubai family can sensibly hold.

Mirdif

Heavy Deira International School and Uptown Mirdif enrolment. The Mirdif to Festival City run at 3.30pm is unpredictable, so families here more often take a 6pm or 7pm slot after homework rather than straight off the bus.

Nadd Al Hamar

Villa communities close enough to the school for a short bus route, which means homework starts earlier than in Marina or Jumeirah households and a 5pm session fits before the evening meal.

Al Garhoud

Older low-rise streets near the airport with a long-settled expatriate population. Several families run two curricula across siblings, which is why cross-board questions come up here more than anywhere else in the catchment.

Al Warqa

Large villa plots and a longer school run. Parents here most often ask for weekend intensive blocks rather than two weekday sessions, because Saturday morning is the only uninterrupted time in the week.

Deira and Al Rigga

Dense apartment districts with the city's oldest schooling stock nearby. Online delivery matters most here: a specialist in IGCSE Computer Science 0478 does not need to be within driving distance of Al Rigga to teach it.

Ras Al Khor and Dubai Creek Harbour

A newer residential strip with growing Festival City enrolment and almost no local tuition supply, so the subject pool online is wider than the pool within a ten-kilometre radius.

Al Qusais and Muhaisnah

A mixed-curriculum belt where IGCSE and CBSE families live on the same street. Transition questions from an Indian-curriculum Year 9 into IGCSE Year 10 are common and need a subject-by-subject gap map.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Festival City, Mirdif and Al Garhoud

The eastern Dubai cluster around Deira International School. Families here are choosing between an IB continuum and a British secondary route inside the same few kilometres, which makes the IGCSE-versus-MYP question a live one rather than theoretical.

  • Uptown International School
  • Universal American School
  • Dubai Modern Education School
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Our Own English High School

Al Qusais, Muhaisnah and Academic City

A short drive north and east, this belt carries the city's broadest curriculum mix. Students moving into Deira International School from here often need an IGCSE bridging plan rather than subject tutoring, because the gap is content coverage rather than ability.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

A twenty-minute conversation establishes the board, the syllabus code, the tier, the papers being sat and the school's own deadline calendar. If you do not know the code, the school exams officer can confirm it in one email, and that email saves a term of working from the wrong specification.

  2. 02

Sit one timed paper and have it marked

A past paper under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme, separates content gaps from method, timing and command-word failures. These look identical on a report card and need different work. The output is a written diagnosis naming topics and components, not a predicted grade.

  3. 03

Meet the specialist on a free trial lesson

A single session with the tutor who would actually teach the subject at that level. The trial is free with no card required; the condition is simply that it is one session so both sides can judge fit. If the match is wrong, say so and a different specialist is proposed.

  4. 04

Run the block and read the marked work

Weekly one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time, each session opening on the previous week's marked question. Marked scripts come back to the parent, so progress is readable rather than asserted. Sessions pause during the school's mock weeks instead of competing with them.

  5. 05

Re-test on an unseen paper and decide

At the end of the block the student sits a fresh paper under the same conditions as the first. Either the component moved or it did not. If it did not, the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes; continuing unchanged is how families spend a year on sessions that never alter the outcome.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specialist, not the nearest tutor

Because lessons run online, the subject pool is not limited to whoever can reach Festival City or Mirdif by 5pm. A student needing IGCSE Computer Science 0478 pseudocode or Maths Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3 gets someone who teaches exactly that, which in eastern Dubai is often not available within driving distance at all.

Syllabus codes in writing

Every plan names the board, the code and the paper: 0580 Extended Paper 4, 0620 Paper 6, 0500 Paper 2. A plan that says only "we will cover the syllabus" has not been written yet. Codes also mean a parent can check the official specification themselves on the board's own site.

Market rates published, with sources

The AED bands on this page carry the name of whoever published them and the month they were read. Three of the strongest pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote US dollars. Knowing the market is how a parent judges any quote, including ours.

The honesty boundary stated up front

A tutor teaches, explains criteria, questions a draft and checks referencing. A tutor does not write an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a TOK essay. That line is stated before the first session rather than discovered at a deadline, and it is a genuine differentiator in this particular market.

Availability told to you straight

If no specialist is free for a niche component at the time you need, you are told, with the options and the timescale. A platform that always says yes is either guessing or sending a generalist. The trial lesson exists so that an unsuitable match costs one hour rather than a term.

Delivery stated once and never blurred

One-to-one online over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. No page here implies otherwise, and there is no UAE office or centre to visit.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Do you provide online IGCSE tutoring for Deira International School students?+

Yes, as one-to-one live video lessons scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. A session is booked against a named subject, level and paper, so a Year 11 student sitting Cambridge Mathematics 0580 Extended works with a tutor who teaches that tier rather than a generalist. Tutoring is not delivered at a UAE address: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service offered only in India. The practical gain for a Festival City or Mirdif family is that the tutor is chosen for subject depth rather than for being able to drive to your door before 5pm.

How do I find out which exam board my child at Deira International School is entered for?+

Ask the school's exams officer directly and ask for the syllabus codes, not just the board name. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both offer International GCSEs in the same subjects with different paper structures, so a revision guide bought for the wrong board teaches content that will not be examined. The reply should give you something like 0580 for Cambridge Mathematics or 4MA1 for Pearson. Once you have the codes you can read the official specification on the board's own site and check that any tutor's plan matches it. That single email is worth more than a term of working from assumptions.

What is the difference between Core and Extended entry in IGCSE Maths?+

The tier decides the grade ceiling before the exam is written. Core entry in Cambridge Mathematics 0580 caps the result at grade 5. Extended entry reaches grade 9 but covers the supplement content and asks longer, less scaffolded questions. Schools normally decide in Year 10 or early Year 11 on internal evidence, and the choice is locked once entries are submitted, which happens months before the papers. Extended is normally expected for progression to A Level or IB Higher Level, so the tier also constrains sixth-form options two years later. Timed papers at both tiers, marked honestly, are the evidence that should drive the decision.

My child is in MYP at Deira International School and the report is hard to read. What do the criteria mean?+

MYP reports give criterion scores out of eight under letters rather than a single mark. Criterion A covers knowing and understanding, B covers investigating patterns or inquiring, C covers communicating, and D covers applying the subject in real-life contexts. A student can be strong on A and weak on D and still average out to a middling summary grade, which is why one number tells a parent almost nothing about what to fix. Ask the subject teacher for the criterion breakdown, then target the weakest letter. Criterion D in maths and science is the one most often neglected and the one that matters most at Diploma.

Which IGCSE science paper assesses practical work if lessons are online?+

In most Dubai centres the practical component is assessed by a written alternative-to-practical paper, Paper 6 in the Cambridge sciences, rather than by a laboratory examination. That paper is marked on experimental method: identifying independent and controlled variables, describing how a reading was taken, naming sources of error, and explaining how a result could be made more reliable. All of that can be taught and practised at a desk, which means online delivery costs nothing on this component. Confirm with the school which paper your child is entered for, because a centre running a different route would change the plan entirely.

How much does an IGCSE tutor cost per hour in Dubai in the current market?+

The market sorts into bands. Budget online provision runs from roughly AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online is around AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 because travel is priced in. Premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650, as BartyED publishes. These are published market rates read in October 2026, not IB Gram's own price list.

Is a cheaper tutor in Mirdif better value than a specialist online?+

It depends entirely on what is wrong. If a student needs content re-covered and supervision while they do it, budget provision at AED 45 to 150 an hour may be sufficient and good value. If the problem is that extended-response method marks in Maths 0580 Paper 4 are not being collected, or that Paper 6 answers describe the wrong thing, a generalist will not diagnose it and twelve hours will change nothing. The cheapest hour is not the cheapest outcome. Sit one timed paper, have it marked against the published scheme, and let the diagnosis decide which tier of provision the problem actually needs.

Can sessions start right after the Festival City school run?+

Yes. A 4.30pm start is realistic for families in Festival City and Nadd Al Hamar, where the drive home is short. Mirdif and Al Warqa families more often take a 6pm or 7pm slot, because the afternoon run east is unpredictable and a session that starts late loses its first ten minutes to settling down. Because lessons are online there is no travel on the tutor's side, so a slot can be held at the same time every week and moved at short notice during mock weeks. During Ramadan, sessions can shift to post-Iftar timing without changing tutor.

Can a tutor help with my child's IB Internal Assessment at Deira International School?+

A tutor can teach the subject content the Internal Assessment rests on, explain what each published criterion rewards, help narrow a research question until it is answerable within the word limit, check that a data collection plan is viable, and read a draft the student has written and ask the questions an examiner would ask. What a tutor cannot do is write, rewrite or supply any part of it, choose the research question, or provide data the student did not collect. The work carries the student's name, so the words must be the student's. Any service offering a completed Internal Assessment is exposing the student to a malpractice finding.

Which papers generate the most tutoring requests from Festival City families?+

Mathematics and the separate sciences generate the most requests, and within them the pattern is consistent. In Maths 0580 Extended the losses cluster in algebraic manipulation and in writing out method so the marks are collectable. In Physics 0625 it is electricity and circuit reading. In Chemistry 0620 it is moles and stoichiometry, followed by organic pathways. In Biology 0610 the problem is usually command words rather than content: describe, explain and suggest demand different answer shapes. English First Language plateaus around a grade 6 when a student writes fluently but selects badly for the summary task.

When are IGCSE exams actually held for a student in Dubai?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two; the February and March series is offered to India only, so any Dubai page quoting a March window is giving you a date you cannot act on. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and the correct zone timetable must be used, with Cambridge stating it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. Confirm your school's zone with the exams officer.

Does my child need a permit check before hiring a private tutor in Dubai?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education required alongside the British curriculum in Dubai?+

Yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects. For tutoring, this means a parent has to know which stream the child sits in, because the two streams are not interchangeable and the content is set by the Ministry.

How many IGCSE passes will a Deira International School leaver need for MoE equivalency?+

Five. The published requirement for the British track is passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. One page currently ranking in this market states six are required, which is wrong and has a practical cost if a family adds a subject they do not need. Verify against the Ministry before making an entry decision.

What happens if no specialist is available for the component we need?+

You are told, with the timescale and the options, rather than matched to a generalist who will be learning the specification alongside the student. Niche components are where this happens: Computer Science 0478 pseudocode to the specification style, Maths Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3, a less commonly taught language. The free trial lesson exists for exactly this reason, so that an unsuitable match costs one hour rather than a term. If a specialist becomes free later, the conversation reopens. A platform that always says yes immediately is either guessing or sending someone who does not teach that level.

Start with the paper that is costing the marks

If your child is at Deira International School and the grade is not where it should be, the useful first step is narrow: name the subject, the syllabus code and the paper, then sit one timed past paper and have it marked against the published scheme. That single piece of evidence tells you whether you are looking at a content gap, a method problem, a timing problem or a command-word problem, and those need four different plans. Book the free trial lesson with a specialist in that component, read the written diagnosis, and decide from there. Lessons run one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time, and the marked work comes back to you each week.
