IB IGCSE Home Tuition in Dubai

Three different products are sold as IB IGCSE home tuition in Dubai: a visiting tutor, a seat in a centre classroom, and one-to-one teaching over live video. They are advertised in the same words and priced between AED 90 and AED 500 an hour. This page separates them, costs a full two-year plan from the start of Year 10 to results day in dirhams, and sets out the package small print that decides what you actually pay. IB Gram delivers the third of those three: online, one to one, with no travel in the invoice.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Home tuition in Dubai is three products with one name

A parent typing home tuition into Google in Dubai gets quotes from a visiting tutor at AED 200 to AED 500 an hour, a tuition centre at AED 90 to AED 200 per student in a group, a centre one-to-one room at AED 150 to AED 350, and an online platform anywhere from AED 33 to AED 450 depending on who is teaching. Those are published figures read in October 2026, from Bestimate's Dubai rate table, from Unitors, EdFlik and Tutopiya's own pages, and from centre price lists advertised locally. The adverts use the same vocabulary. The products are not remotely the same.

The confusion costs money in a specific way. Families compare an hourly rate from one model against an hourly rate from another and pick the lower number, then discover the unit is different: a two-hour minimum on the visit, a fixed ten-week term at the centre, a package of eight sessions that expires at the end of the month. By the third invoice the cheaper option has become the more expensive one, and the school year is a term shorter than it was.

So this page costs the thing families actually buy, which is not an hour. It is two years: the start of Year 10 through to the day the results land, with a mock season, an internal assessment or coursework deadline, an entry deadline and an exam window inside it. Laid out that way the decisions change. Frequency matters more than rate, early matters more than intense, and the single biggest controllable cost is how late you start, because specialist availability thins about eight weeks before every exam series and prices firm with it.

The other thing a two-year view reveals is where tuition stops being the right purchase. A student two grades below target in three subjects does not need three tutors; they need a diagnosis and probably a conversation with the school about tier and option choices. A student at grade 7 chasing an 8 in one subject needs marked papers, not more teaching hours. Spending correctly inside the same budget is worth more than increasing it, and nothing on this page is designed to talk you into a larger plan than the evidence supports.

One limit stated plainly before you read further: IB Gram does not provide home visits in the UAE. Tuition here runs one to one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and home visiting is a service we offer only in India. Dubai's school fees happen to be flat this year, with KHDA confirming on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not increase for 2026-27 under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion, so tuition is the part of the education bill that is genuinely yours to plan.

At a glance

  • Visiting tutor: AED 180-500 an hour, usually with a two-hour minimum
  • Centre group class: AED 90-200 per student, fixed timetable and term length
  • Online one-to-one: AED 150-300 for a qualified teacher, 200-450+ for board specialists
  • Advertised monthly packages: AED 799 online against AED 1,599-1,799 in-home
  • The expensive mistake is starting late, not choosing the wrong hourly rate
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A two-year tuition budget looks different depending on which programme the money is funding, because the deadlines inside each one fall in different places.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson International GCSE

Two years of linear study assessed by terminal papers, with Cambridge offering Core and Extended routes and Pearson reporting across the 9-1 scale. The spending pattern is a slow start, a lift through the mock season in Year 11, and a concentrated block in the eight to ten weeks before the exam window.

Dubai adds an entry-deadline wrinkle worth budgeting for, and it has two decision points rather than one. A UAE centre enters candidates for the Cambridge June series or the November series, never the February and March series, which Cambridge offers to India only. That gives the Dubai school year two moments where a tier is locked: entries for the June papers close in the spring, so the useful conversation happens across the autumn and winter terms, and entries for the November papers close over the summer, so a June result can still be answered in the same calendar year. A family planning to start tuition in April for a June series is arriving after the tier decision has already been lodged by the centre, and the honest options from that point are the paper they are entered for or a November re-entry.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, activity, service. Internal assessment carries about a fifth of most subject grades. The cost shape is lumpy rather than even: quiet months, then intense weeks around each internal deadline.

Diploma families in Dubai routinely overspend in the first term and underspend in the second, which is the wrong way round. The expensive months are the ones containing an internal assessment deadline and the run-up to the final papers. Budget for short, frequent feedback sessions in those windows rather than a flat weekly hour across two years.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups, four criteria per subject scored from one to eight, with a personal project in the final year. Tuition at this stage is cheap per hour and the highest-return spending available, because it is buying habits rather than repairing grades.

This is the one stage in Dubai where the lowest published band is often the correct purchase. A Year 8 student who needs routine, supervision and written structure does not need a board specialist at AED 300. Spending at the top of the market here and at the bottom of it in Year 11 is the most common budgeting error families make.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per grade varies by subject because the work varies. Below is what the money buys in each, which is the useful way to decide where a limited tuition budget goes first.

Mathematics (0580, 4MA1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The cheapest grade in the market to move, because most loss is method and exact form rather than knowledge. Expect visible change in three or four sessions, then a slower content phase. This is where a limited budget usually earns the most.

Chemistry (0620, 4CH1)

Core and Extended, single tier

Procedural topics respond quickly: balanced ionic equations, moles, titration data. Organic pathways take longer. A term of weekly work is the realistic unit here, not a pre-exam block.

Physics (0625, 4PH1)

Core and Extended, single tier

Mark recovery sits in units, moments and six-mark causal answers. Technique-heavy, so cost per grade is low if started early and high if left until the final month, when the content gaps are no longer fixable.

Biology (0610, 4BI1)

Core and Extended, single tier

Content-heavy and slow to shift, so this is the subject where a late start costs most. Budget a full term minimum, with the money going into data questions and command-term discipline rather than reteaching.

English Language

First Language and Specification A

The work happens between sessions: the student writes, the tutor annotates. Pay for marking rather than for teaching hours here, which makes it unusually cheap to support if the provider sells feedback separately.

Economics and Business

IGCSE and DP SL or HL

Diagram and application drills produce fast, visible gains, so short blocks work. A six-session package aimed only at diagram accuracy is often better value than a term of general teaching.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

DP HL and SL

The most expensive subject to support late, because Higher Level assumes fluency from the first weeks. Three hours of audit in the summer before the course is the cheapest intervention available in the whole diploma.

Internal assessment and coursework support

DP and IGCSE coursework routes

Priced by the session rather than the term, and usually two or three short feedback conversations around a draft the student wrote. Costs little and protects a fifth of a subject grade, which is the best ratio on this page.

Arabic as a first and additional language

Arab and non-Arab streams

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in Dubai private schools, taught in separate streams under KHDA requirements. Tuition works through the school's own set content, since different or additional material needs prior ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, all delivered over live video, all priced by the hour with no travel element, no distance premium and no minimum visit length.

Pay by the session, no package

An hour at a time, booked weekly, cancelled with notice. More expensive per hour than a package in most of this market and considerably cheaper in practice, because nothing expires unused. This is the sensible default for a first term, and for any family who has not yet seen three pieces of marked work from the tutor.

  • No minimum term and nothing to use up
  • Change tutor without losing a balance
  • Thirty, forty-five or sixty-minute bookings
  • The free first lesson comes before any of it

A fixed weekly slot across a term

The same hour each week for a term, which is what actually produces a grade change because it generates marked work continuously. Priced per session rather than as a block, so a missed week is rescheduled rather than forfeited. Most Dubai families settle here after a diagnostic, usually on one subject rather than three.

  • A protected slot on Gulf Standard Time
  • Topic order follows your child's school scheme of work
  • Roughly thirty minutes of marked work between sessions
  • A short written note after each hour

A defined block before a deadline

Six to ten sessions aimed at one thing: a mock season, a coursework draft, a diagram technique problem, or the final weeks before an exam window. Finite, costed in advance, and easy to judge afterwards. Book these early, because the eight weeks before every series is when availability disappears across the emirate.

  • A stated number of sessions with a stated purpose
  • Timed papers marked against the board's scheme
  • A written plan for the final fortnight
  • No rollover, because the deadline is the end point

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The three products sold as home tuition, decoded

Read any Dubai tuition advert and ask one question: what is the unit? A rate per hour, a rate per student per session, a monthly package, or a fixed term. The table sets the three real products against each other with the published rates and the unit each one actually bills in, which is where the comparison usually breaks down. A quoted AED 250 with a two-hour minimum costs more per session than a quoted AED 300 with no minimum, and no advert will point that out.

The centre model is the one most Dubai families misjudge. A group class at AED 120 per student is genuinely good value for a child who is behind on content and needs reteaching alongside others at the same point. It is poor value for a student at grade 6 chasing an 8, because the thing that student needs is their own work marked individually, which a fixed scheme of work for eight students cannot deliver. A centre with premises and staff also requires an educational services permit from KHDA, and asking about it is reasonable.

The visiting model bills in two-hour units because the trip has to be justified, and that one structural fact drives most of its cost. Online billing is the only one of the three where thirty minutes is a sensible purchase, which matters more than it sounds: a great deal of useful tuition is a short conversation about a draft or a marked paper, and in the other two models that conversation does not get sold at all.

02

Two years of tuition, costed stage by stage

Here is the plan families actually buy, laid out as the five stages it really has. The monthly figures are Bestimate's published 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session: AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Read the last column first, because each stage should produce something you can hold, and a stage that produces nothing checkable is a stage to stop paying for.

The shape matters more than the total. Spending evenly across twenty-four months is the most common pattern and not the best one. The high-value months are the first term of Year 10, where habits are set cheaply; the mock season, where the diagnosis is sharpest; and the eight to ten weeks before the exam window, where timed practice converts knowledge into marks. The low-value months are the quiet middles, where a weekly hour often becomes supervised homework at specialist prices.

One line in the table is the one families skip and later regret: the audit in the summer between courses. Three hours with a subject specialist checking what the International GCSE course actually covered against what the next course assumes costs less than a fortnight of catch-up in November. It is also when the honest conversation about whether a subject should be taken at Higher Level can still change something. One further note on the table: the marking-only option in the second row is the least used and best value line in this market. A student in the quiet middle of Year 10 who sends in two papers a fortnight and gets them back annotated keeps the diagnostic running at a fraction of a weekly teaching rate, and arrives at the mock season with a record rather than an impression.

Packages, minimum terms and the small print that decides the bill

  • Ask whether unused package sessions roll forward, and for how long
  • Ask what the cancellation window is in practice across a Dubai weekend
  • Ask for the minimum term and the notice period to stop
  • Ask the rate for a thirty-minute session and whether the quote is the final amount

Packages are cheaper per hour and more expensive in practice, for one reason: expiry. A package of eight sessions inside a calendar month assumes eight usable weeks, and a Dubai school year contains half terms, exam weeks, travel, Ramadan and illness. Families routinely pay for sessions they cannot take, which turns an advertised AED 799 for eight into a real AED 799 for five. Ask whether unused sessions roll forward, and get the answer in writing rather than in a conversation.

The second clause worth reading is the cancellation window. Twenty-four hours sounds reasonable until the window falls across a Friday and Saturday, which in practice means notice by Thursday evening. The third is the minimum term: some providers sell ten-week blocks and some require a month's notice to stop, which is a different thing from an hourly rate. The fourth is the rate for a short session, because if thirty minutes is billed as an hour, draft feedback becomes uneconomic exactly when it is most useful.

Then there is tax. Whether tuition fees carry value added tax in the UAE is not something a tutoring page should assert without a Federal Tax Authority citation, and this one will not. What you are entitled to ask any provider is whether the dirham figure quoted is the amount you will be charged, whether a tax registration number applies to the invoice, and whether package prices differ from single-session prices. A provider who cannot answer those three questions in one message is a provider whose invoices will keep surprising you.

04

What starting late actually costs

The most expensive decision in this market is not choosing the wrong provider. It is starting in March for a May or June window. Two things happen at once: the work available is narrower, because content gaps can no longer be closed and only technique can be drilled; and the supply of specialists tightens across the whole emirate, because every other family has reached the same conclusion in the same fortnight.

The arithmetic is unkind. One hour a week from September across an academic year is roughly thirty-two hours. An eight-week intensive at two hours a week is sixteen, bought at the specialist end of the band in the busiest month of the year, with no marked history to target it. The intensive costs a similar amount of money for half the teaching and a much narrower set of options, and it is the only route left for a family who waited for mock results before acting.

There is a cheaper version of urgency. If the mocks are three months away and you do not know whether tuition is needed, buy a diagnosis rather than a term: two or three sessions whose only job is to produce a ranked list of mark-loss causes from your child's own work. That costs a fraction of a package, frequently shows that one subject needs help rather than three, and occasionally shows that nothing needs buying at all beyond a conversation with the school about tier.

05

Group ratios and the price of a useful minute

Group tuition is priced per student, which makes it look like a straightforward discount. The better way to judge it is per minute of individual attention, because that is the ingredient a student at grade 6 needs to reach 8. In a group of two, a sixty-minute lesson gives each student a large share of the teacher's responses. In a group of twelve, the same hour gives each student a few minutes, and the rest is delivery that a recording could provide.

That does not make large groups useless. For reteaching content, a well-run class of eight with a strong scheme of work is excellent value and better than a weak one-to-one hour. What it cannot do is mark your child's script, find the specific errors in it and drill those, which is the work that closes the last two grades. The honest rule is that groups buy content coverage and one-to-one buys error correction, and most Dubai families need the second more than they think.

Ask the centre two questions before signing a term: the actual maximum ratio, not the target, and how many pieces of individually marked work your child will receive across the term. If the answer to the second is none, the class is a course rather than tuition, and it should be priced and judged as one. Centres running premises in Dubai also need an educational services permit from KHDA, obtained in stages with annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry.

06

The costs that sit beyond tuition

A two-year budget has lines in it that no tuition provider mentions. The first is exam entry where a student sits as a private candidate, which happens more often in Dubai than families expect: a mid-year arrival, an extra subject the school does not offer, or a single-subject resit. Entries go through a centre, the centre sets its own charge per subject per series, and the deadline is the board's rather than the centre's convenience. Neither Pearson nor Cambridge publishes a candidate-facing price.

The second is the resit itself, which is cheaper than it looks on either board because both run two series a year. Pearson's November window ran from late October to 19 November in 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a disappointing summer need not cost a school year. Cambridge candidates in Dubai work the same way: the June series is the main attempt and the November series is the second one, with June entries closing in the spring and November entries over the summer, once June results have shown which single subject is worth repeating. The February and March series a parent may find online is offered to India only and is not an option from a UAE centre, so nothing should be planned around it. Ask the exams officer for your own series dates in writing, because the exact day shifts year to year and the entry always closes earlier than families expect.

The third is equivalency paperwork for families who will need a UAE certificate recognised. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE level at grade E or 3 or better, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. That is a regulatory process run by the authorities, not something a tutoring provider performs, charges for or expedites. Verify your own case through the official channel.

07

What tuition cannot buy, at any price

  • No grade promises, no refund tied to an outcome, no score guarantee
  • No written, redrafted or completed assessed work, at any price
  • No regulatory shortcuts and no influence over boundaries or entries
  • No board materials redistributed as files: we cite and link instead

Three things are for sale in this market that should not be, and knowing them protects a budget as much as any rate table. The first is a grade. No provider can promise a number, and any page that does is selling confidence rather than teaching. What an honest provider can do is name the three things costing marks after a fortnight and estimate how long each takes to fix, which is a forecast you can check against marked work rather than a promise.

The second is finished coursework. Internal assessment, the extended essay and coursework components must be the student's own work, and one provider in this search result sells completed internal assessments outright. The consequence of that transaction lands on the student as a malpractice finding, not on the seller. Legitimate support means teaching what the criteria reward, modelling technique on other material, and responding to a draft the student wrote in their own words.

The third is a regulatory shortcut. Nobody in this market can accelerate ministry equivalency, influence a grade boundary, obtain unreleased papers, or arrange a school place. We also do not distribute board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or boundary tables as downloads; we reference them and link to the boards' own pages. IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. Nor will anyone here describe a tutor as a current examiner, because examiner status cannot be evidenced to a parent and would not give a tutor access to anything useful if it could. Where a page in this market leans on that claim to justify a rate, the honest question to ask is what it changes about the hour you are buying.

08

Nine questions to send any Dubai tuition provider

  • What is the unit: per hour, per session, per month, per term?
  • What is the minimum session length, and the rate for thirty minutes?
  • Do unused package sessions roll forward, and for how long?
  • What is the cancellation notice, and how does it fall across the Dubai weekend?
  • What do I receive between sessions, in writing?
  • Which exact specification code and level has this tutor taught?
  • Does your tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit?
  • Is the quoted dirham figure the final amount on the invoice?
  • What happens if the match does not work after two sessions?

Comparing quotes in this market is hard because providers describe different products in identical language. The fastest way through it is a list of questions sent verbatim to each one, because the answers are short and the differences become obvious immediately. Copy the list below into a message and send it unchanged to three providers, including us. A provider who will not answer in writing has told you something useful at no cost.

Note what the questions are doing. Four of them establish the unit being billed, which is where comparisons usually fail. Three establish what you receive between sessions, which is the difference between teaching and attendance. Two establish compliance: the private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 for an individual tutor, and the educational services permit for any provider running premises in Dubai.

Then apply one test at four weeks, whichever provider you choose. You should be able to name the three things costing your child marks, point at them in marked work, and say which are technique and which are content. If the available evidence is only that the sessions feel positive, the money is buying company at specialist rates. That test costs nothing and it is the only one in this market that has ever predicted a grade change. Send the list to three providers rather than two, and include at least one model you had not considered: a centre class, a marking-only arrangement, an online specialist. The replies tend to cluster, and the one that answers every question in plain sentences with numbers attached is usually the one worth a first lesson.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Where you live changes the price of two of the three products on this page and not the third. The notes below say how, by cluster. All IB Gram sessions run over live video.

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

The deepest local tutor pool in Dubai and the shortest drives, so visiting quotes sit mid-band and centre options are plentiful. Families here pay for minimum visit lengths they rarely need rather than for distance.

Arabian Ranches, Mudon and Serena

Villa communities where visiting quotes reach the top of the published band and a tutor fits two bookings into an evening rather than four. The in-home premium across a two-year plan is the largest single avoidable line in the budget here.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

Strong centre provision and long bus runs, so group tuition at AED 90 to 200 per student is the default local choice. Worth checking the ratio before signing a ten-week term, because the useful minutes per student change sharply above six.

Dubai Marina, JLT and JBR

Apartment living with good access to both centres and visiting tutors. The budget question here is usually frequency: two short sessions a week beat one long one for a student revising after 7pm.

Dubai Hills Estate and Meydan

Newer communities with growing Year 10 cohorts and fewer resident specialists. Quotes carry a distance element and availability thins first in the exam-term window, so early booking is a price decision.

Dubai South, Jebel Ali and Emaar South

The outer edge of in-home coverage, where the travel component of a quote is largest and the local pool smallest. A two-year plan built on visits costs materially more here than the same plan delivered over video.

Town Square, Dubailand and The Valley

Fast-growing families, new schools, few local tutors in scarce subjects. Centre classes fill early in the autumn term, which is when the sensible decision about the whole year gets made.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Established British-curriculum cohorts

Schools with large, tightly set Year 11 groups where a middle-set student aiming two grades up is the standard tuition case. Mock season in these schools sets the family budget for the rest of the year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Start with the subject that moves cheapest

Tell us which subjects are short of target and by how much. If the budget only covers one, we will usually point at mathematics or a procedural science first, because those move fastest per hour, and say honestly when a subject needs a term rather than a block.

  2. 02

A free first lesson before any arrangement

One full lesson with the proposed tutor at no charge, with no card details taken. Nothing is purchased at that point and no package exists. It is there so the first money you spend follows an hour you have already watched rather than a profile you have read.

  3. 03

Buy a diagnosis, not a term

Two or three sessions whose only output is a ranked list of mark-loss causes from your child's own work, with each cause labelled content, method or timing. That list often shows one subject needs help rather than three, which is the cheapest discovery available here.

  4. 04

Agree a shape, by the session

With the list in hand we propose a shape: weekly for a term, fortnightly marking only, or a defined block before a deadline. Sessions are billed as they happen, so nothing expires unused and changing tutor costs you no balance.

  5. 05

Review at mocks and eight weeks out

The plan changes twice a year whether anyone schedules it or not: after mocks, and eight to ten weeks before an exam window. We raise both, including the version where the answer is fewer hours, and we book the exam-term block early because availability goes first.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Billed by the session, not by the month

Nothing expires. A Dubai school year has half terms, travel, exam weeks and Ramadan in it, and monthly packages quietly charge for the sessions those weeks remove. Paying as you go is slightly more per hour and usually less in total.

Thirty minutes is a real booking

Much of the most valuable tuition is short: a marked paper discussed, a draft read against the criteria. The visiting model cannot sell that because of the drive, and the centre model cannot timetable it. Over video it is routine.

The whole budget, not the hourly rate

We will talk about what two years costs and where the high-value months are, including the months where the right advice is to stop paying. An hourly rate is the least informative number in this market.

No package before a lesson

The free first lesson comes first, then a diagnosis, then a shape. No minimum term, no commitment ahead of evidence, and no balance to lose if you want a different tutor in week three.

Delivered online, said plainly

Lessons are one to one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not provide home visits in the UAE; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. We hold no regulator or examination-board accreditation and make no such claim.

Evidence you can hold

Annotated work keyed to the board's mark-scheme language, plus a short written note after each session. That is what makes the four-week test possible, and the four-week test is the only reliable way to judge whether tuition is worth its price.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does home tuition cost per month in Dubai?+

Published monthly figures read in October 2026 put a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, 600 to 1,200 mid-market and 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, on Bestimate's 2026 estimates. Advertised Dubai packages included AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' figures. The important question is not the monthly number but the unit it bills in, because an eight-session month assumes eight usable weeks and a school year rarely offers them.

Is a monthly package cheaper than paying for each session?+

Cheaper per hour, often more expensive in total. The reason is expiry: a package assumes a run of usable weeks, and a Dubai school year contains half terms, exam weeks, travel and Ramadan. Families regularly pay for eight sessions and take five. Before buying one, ask whether unused sessions roll forward and for how long, what the cancellation window is in practice across a Friday and Saturday, and whether there is a minimum term. If the answers are vague, pay by the session until the match and the frequency are both proven.

What is a realistic total tuition budget for Years 10 and 11?+

Think in stages rather than totals. One weekly hour in one subject from the start of Year 10, using published mid-band monthly estimates of AED 600 to 1,200, plus a heavier two-hour pattern in the eight to ten weeks before the exam window at the specialist band of AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month, is the common shape. Families who front-load cheaply and spend harder in the exam term get more for the same money than families who spread evenly, because the early hours set habits and the late hours convert knowledge into marks.

Do tuition rates in Dubai rise closer to the exams?+

Effectively yes, though usually through availability rather than through a published increase. In the eight weeks before a Pearson or Cambridge window, the specialists are booked, the remaining options sit at the upper end of the band, and families accept a weaker subject match because nothing else is free. The same tutor booked in September costs the published rate and has space to plan. Treat early booking as a price strategy, not just an organisational habit, and book any exam-term block before the mock results arrive.

Can we pause tuition over the school holidays and keep the slot?+

With a session-billed arrangement, yes, and the slot can usually be held for a few weeks by agreement. With a package or a fixed term, often not, which is one of the reasons packages cost more than they appear to. The more useful question is whether you should pause at all. Students who stop entirely in July arrive in September having lost fluency in algebra, and the first three sessions of the new year go on buying it back. One session a fortnight through a long break is cheaper than that.

If a package month ends with three sessions unused, what happens to them?+

It depends entirely on the provider, and it is the single clause worth reading before signing anything. Some packages roll unused sessions into the next month, some roll them for a fixed window, and some expire them at month end. Centres with fixed terms rarely refund a missed class. Ask for the rule in writing, not in a conversation, and keep the message. With a session-billed arrangement the question does not arise, because nothing is bought before it happens.

Is group tuition worth it at half the price of one-to-one?+

It depends on what your child needs. Groups buy content coverage; one-to-one buys error correction. For a student who is behind and needs reteaching, a well-run class of six at AED 100 to 200 per student is strong value and better than a weak private hour. For a student at grade 6 chasing an 8, what closes the gap is their own script marked and the specific errors drilled, and a group of eight on one scheme of work cannot do that. Ask the centre the actual maximum ratio and how many individually marked pieces your child will get.

How many tuition hours a week is too many?+

Past about three hours a week across all subjects, most students stop converting hours into marks and start losing the time they need to do the work the tutor set. Tuition only pays if there is space between sessions for marked practice. Two hours a week plus an hour of marked work is usually better than four hours of teaching. If a provider's answer to a disappointing mock is more hours rather than a sharper diagnosis, that is a signal about the provider rather than about your child.

Is there an extra charge for coursework or draft feedback?+

Ask, because this is where billing models differ most. Some providers treat draft feedback as a separate service at a separate rate; others include short feedback conversations in the hourly arrangement. With sessions billed by the half hour, a thirty-minute conversation about a draft costs thirty minutes and nothing more. What should never appear on any invoice is writing, restructuring or completing an assessed piece: the work must be the student's own, and the consequence of crossing that line falls on the student.

Who pays the exam entry fee if my child sits as a private candidate?+

You do, and you pay it to the centre rather than to the board. Entries are made by a centre registered to accept external candidates, the centre sets its own charge per subject per series, and the deadline is the board's published one. Neither Pearson nor Cambridge publishes a candidate-facing price list, so collect quotes from more than one centre and ask what the charge includes. Tuition providers do not handle entries, and any provider who implies they can lodge one for you has misunderstood the process.

Is private tuition subject to VAT in the UAE?+

This page will not state the tax treatment of tuition as fact, because doing so without a Federal Tax Authority citation would be irresponsible on a page families use to plan a budget. What you can and should require from any provider is three plain answers: whether the dirham figure quoted is the amount that will appear on the invoice, whether a tax registration number applies, and whether package pricing differs from single-session pricing. Get those in writing before the first payment and the question stops mattering to your budget.

Can we start with one subject and add another later?+

Yes, and it is usually the right order. Starting with the subject furthest from target, or the one that moves cheapest, gives you a working relationship and a marked baseline before the budget widens. Mathematics and the procedural parts of chemistry tend to move fastest per hour; content-heavy biology and essay subjects take longer. Adding a second subject after a term also lets you judge the first properly, because by then you are looking at marked work rather than at an impression of how the sessions went.

What is the cheapest way to move a grade up by one?+

Diagnosis first, then technique, then content, in that order. Two or three sessions to find out where the marks are going usually reveals that one or two habits are costing most of the gap: method not written down, exact form ignored, command terms misread, or a diagram not shifted. Those habits install in a handful of sessions and they cost very little. Content gaps are the expensive part and they take a term. Buying teaching before diagnosis is how families spend a term's budget fixing something that was not the problem.

Is this tuition delivered at our Dubai address or online?+

Online, one to one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared screen both people write on. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. If your child genuinely needs an adult physically present, this is not the right provider and the question list in the last section is the useful part of the page for you. What online delivery buys is the specialist who teaches your child's exact specification, at an hour that suits a Dubai evening, with no travel in the price.

How do I compare two quotes that look identical?+

Put both on the same unit. Convert each to the real cost of one usable session: add the minimum length, the distance element, the package expiry and the cancellation risk. A quoted AED 250 with a two-hour minimum is AED 500 a session; a quoted AED 300 with no minimum and a thirty-minute option is cheaper in practice. Then compare what arrives between sessions in writing, and whether the tutor has taught your child's exact specification code. Those two columns decide outcomes; the headline rate rarely does.

Buy the diagnosis first, then the plan

If you read one section of this page twice, make it the two-year table. Tuition is a plan, not an hour, and the families who get most from the same budget are the ones who spend early and cheaply on habits, buy a real diagnosis before committing to a term, and book the exam-term block before everyone else does. Send us the subjects, the year group, the specification codes and what the next assessed piece is. The first lesson is free with no card details taken, sessions are billed as they happen, and everything runs one to one over live video.
