IB MYP Tutor in Jumeirah 2

An IB MYP tutor in Jumeirah 2 is usually hired for five years, not five weeks, so the price per hour matters less than what each hour buys. This page prices the Middle Years Programme the way a family on Jumeirah Beach Road actually spends on it: term by term, criterion by criterion, from the AED 45 end of the market to the AED 650 end. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the school run rather than against it.

  • Market AED bands quoted with the provider who published them
  • Criteria A to D explained by subject group, with mark ranges
  • Sessions timed to Gulf Standard Time, after the Jumeirah school run
  • A free trial lesson before any payment is taken

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 2

What five years of MYP tutoring actually costs a Jumeirah 2 family

Most families in Jumeirah 2 do not start MYP tutoring because of a crisis. They start because a report card in MYP 2 or MYP 3 carries four criterion marks per subject, nobody at home can read them, and the school's parent evening gives twelve minutes per teacher. The question that follows is almost never "how much per hour". It is "how long are we doing this for", and the honest answer is that a Middle Years Programme runs five years. Priced at one weekly hour from MYP 1 to MYP 5, even the cheapest end of the Dubai market adds up to a sum nobody budgeted for.

That is the first place money goes wrong. A tutor booked at the bottom of the market for AED 45 to 65 an hour, as EdFlik publishes, is good value for a specific job: unblocking homework, keeping a child company through a worksheet, holding a routine together during a hard term. Bought as a five-year subscription it becomes an expensive way to supervise work the child could have finished alone. The spend produces attendance rather than movement, and the criterion marks on the next report look the same.

The second place money goes wrong is the opposite error. A premium rate at the BartyED end of the market, AED 650 an hour, buys genuine subject expertise, but in MYP 2 there is often nothing for that expertise to do. The content is not yet hard. What is hard is the assessment model: four criteria per subject, each marked out of 8, each with its own descriptor ladder, and a conversion to a 1 to 7 grade that most parents have never seen explained. A teacher who can read that ladder costs the middle of the market, not the top of it.

So this page is built around the middle. Unitors publishes online rates from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB; TutorChase publishes AED 270; Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts a qualified subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, and in-home visits at AED 180 to 350. Those are the real numbers a Jumeirah 2 family will be quoted. We publish them because almost nobody ranking for this search does, and a parent who knows the bands cannot be overcharged by much.

What IB Gram sells into that market is one-to-one tuition delivered live online, on Gulf Standard Time, to addresses across Jumeirah 2 and the coast. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The practical consequence is that the hour you pay for is an hour of teaching rather than an hour of teaching plus a drive down Al Wasl Road, and the tutor is chosen for knowing MYP Sciences criteria B and C rather than for living four streets away.

At a glance

  • Five-year horizon: MYP 1 to MYP 5 is the real contract length, so price per term not per hour
  • Criterion marks out of 8 per strand, four strands per subject, converted to a 1-7 grade
  • Market bands: AED 45-150 generalist, AED 150-300 qualified, AED 200-450+ specialist
  • In-home quotes of AED 180-500 include travel; online removes that line entirely
  • Lessons are delivered online over live video, timed around the Jumeirah school run
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Jumeirah 2 sits inside a corridor where IB continuum schools and British-curriculum schools are a few minutes apart, so the same street often holds MYP, IGCSE and DP families. These are the programmes our Dubai tutors cover, with what each one costs a family in time rather than money.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups taught through key concepts, related concepts and six global contexts, with every subject assessed against four published criteria rather than a single exam mark. Each criterion is marked out of 8 and reported separately, which is why an MYP report looks nothing like a British one. MYP 5 adds the Personal Project and, in schools that register for it, the on-screen eAssessment route to the IB MYP Certificate.

In Dubai the MYP is the middle section of an IB continuum school, so the children on your street in Jumeirah 2 may be in MYP 4 while their neighbours sit IGCSEs the same year. Families here most often ask for MYP Sciences, Mathematics and Individuals and Societies, because those three carry the heaviest investigation criteria and the most unfamiliar command terms.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three Higher Level and three Standard Level choices, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal assessments carry fixed weightings in every subject, and final grades run 1 to 7 with up to three bonus points from TOK and the Extended Essay. The jump in written volume between MYP 5 and DP1 is the single steepest step in the IB.

Dubai's IB cohort is small relative to the British-curriculum majority, which makes DP subject specialists scarcer locally than IGCSE ones. For a Jumeirah 2 family that is an argument for booking online: the pool of DP Chemistry or Maths Analysis and Approaches teachers is national and international rather than whoever is free within a twenty-minute drive.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two-year courses with syllabus codes that matter: Cambridge Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, and Pearson Edexcel equivalents such as 4MA1 and 4PH1. Cambridge tiers several subjects into Core and Extended; Pearson runs a different paper structure for the same content. The board decides the mark scheme, so tutoring that ignores the code wastes half its time.

Several of the schools nearest Jumeirah 2 run IGCSE at 16 and then split into A Level or the IB Diploma, so a household can hold one child in MYP 4 and another in Year 11. Families here commonly book a single tutor across both children only when the subject and board genuinely overlap, which for maths they often do not.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early Years to PYP 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry organised around six themes, with no formal external examinations and a PYP Exhibition in the final year. Reporting is descriptive rather than numerical, which makes the first MYP report card a shock for parents who have only ever read PYP comments. Support at this stage is about reading fluency, number sense and written structure.

The transition from PYP 6 to MYP 1 inside the same Dubai school is where many Jumeirah 2 families first notice a gap, because the child moves from one teacher to eight subject teachers in one August. A short block of support over the summer costs far less than a year of catch-up in MYP 2.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

MYP tutoring is organised by subject group, not by school textbook, because the criteria live at group level. These are the eight groups plus the interdisciplinary strand, with the part of each that Dubai families most often pay to fix.

Sciences

MYP 1-5

Criteria A to D cover knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Marks are lost in criterion B, where students write a method without a controlled variable, and in criterion C, where a graph is drawn but never interpreted. This is the group Jumeirah 2 parents book most.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5, standard and extended

Criterion B, investigating patterns, is the strand with no equivalent in a British maths course: the student must find a general rule, justify it and test it. Criterion D asks for mathematics applied to a real context with a reasoned conclusion. Pure procedural practice raises criterion A alone and leaves the other three flat.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Analysing, organizing, producing text and using language. Most mark loss sits in criterion A, where a student retells a plot instead of analysing how the writer builds meaning. Tutoring here is close reading plus paragraph architecture, not vocabulary lists, and it transfers directly to DP Language A later.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. Criterion D is where grades are made: evaluating sources, recognising bias and weighing evidence. Students who write confident narrative history often sit at a 4 or 5 here until someone teaches them what evaluation looks like on the page.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Assessed in phases rather than year groups, across comprehending spoken and visual text, comprehending written and visual text, communicating, and using language. Dubai schools place children into phases on arrival, and a misplacement is common after a mid-year move. Tutoring targets the phase descriptors the school is actually marking against.

Design

MYP 1-5

Inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, evaluating. The written design cycle carries most of the marks, which surprises families who assume the group is practical. Students lose criterion B marks by sketching one idea instead of generating and justifying several against a specification.

Arts

MYP 1-5, visual and performing

Knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively and responding. The process journal is the assessed artefact as much as the finished piece, and criterion D rewards reflection a student can be taught to write. Support here is usually a short block before a summative rather than weekly work.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, reflecting on and improving performance. The written strands can be tutored even though the practical ones cannot, and criterion A often carries an anatomy or nutrition knowledge test that students revise for badly.

Interdisciplinary units and the Personal Project

MYP 1-5, project in MYP 5

Interdisciplinary units are assessed against their own criteria and are frequently the lowest marks on an MYP report because nobody revises for them. The MYP 5 Personal Project is supervised in school; a tutor may coach process, planning and reflection, and must never produce any part of the student's own work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every MYP request from this part of Dubai. All three are delivered online over live video; the difference is the shape of the commitment and what each one costs across a term.

Weekly one-to-one across a subject group

One hour a week on a single subject group, with the week's work mapped to the criteria the school is currently assessing. This is the format that moves criterion B and D marks, because it repeats the same skill against different content until the descriptor is met. It is also the format most families overbuy, booking three subjects when one is the actual problem.

  • Best for a persistent 4 or 5 in one subject group
  • Criterion-referenced feedback after each session
  • Mid-market rates, not premium rates, do this job
  • Review after six weeks and drop it if the marks move

Short blocks before a summative or an eAssessment

Four to six sessions aimed at a named assessment: a Sciences criterion B investigation, a Mathematics criterion D task, an on-screen eAssessment paper. A block has a start and an end, which is the single most effective cost control available to a family who does not want an open-ended monthly bill.

  • Fixed number of sessions agreed before the first one
  • Built around the school's own assessment calendar
  • Cheaper in total than a year of weekly supervision
  • Repeatable per assessment rather than per term

Transition support between programmes

Dedicated work at the two steps that cause the most paid-for catch-up later: PYP 6 into MYP 1, and MYP 5 into DP1. Both are gaps in assessment style rather than content, so a short, deliberate block in the summer costs a fraction of a reactive year of weekly tuition in the term that follows.

  • Aimed at the assessment model, not the textbook
  • Usually six to eight sessions over a holiday
  • Covers command terms and written structure
  • Reduces the chance of a long weekly commitment later

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 2

01

What an IB MYP tutor in Jumeirah 2 costs, by provider model

An MYP tutor in Dubai is quoted anywhere between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and the spread is not noise. Each band corresponds to a different person doing a different job, and the table below names who publishes each figure so a Jumeirah 2 parent can check it rather than take our word for it. Every rate is a market rate collected from the provider's own site; none of them is an IB Gram price list.

Read the table left to right rather than top to bottom. The hourly figure is the least useful column, because a one-hour weekly booking across a five-year programme is a very different purchase from six sessions before a criterion B investigation. The indicative monthly column, drawn from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour session, is closer to what actually leaves a family's account.

The pattern that repeats in this market is that the bottom band is bought for too long and the top band is bought too early. A generalist at AED 45 to 65 an hour is a sensible purchase for one difficult term in MYP 2 and an expensive habit by MYP 4. A specialist at AED 500 and upwards is the right call for a DP Higher Level subject and usually overpowered for an MYP 3 Sciences unit, where the obstacle is the descriptor rather than the physics.

There is one figure families are rarely shown: the monthly in-home package. Quotes of AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits circulate widely in Dubai, which works out close to AED 200 to 225 an hour before anyone accounts for the travel window either side. That is the number the next section takes apart.

02

The travel premium, priced out for a Jumeirah Beach Road address

The gap between the online band and the in-home band in Dubai is roughly AED 50 to 200 an hour depending on where you look. That gap is not a quality difference. It is a logistics charge, and in this corridor it is a large one, because Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road both carry school traffic and office traffic through the same window a tutoring session wants to occupy.

Work it through for a single weekly hour. A tutor crossing from Al Barsha or Business Bay to Jumeirah 2 at five in the afternoon is unlikely to spend less than fifty minutes in the car for the round trip, and often considerably more in the weeks either side of a long weekend. Somebody pays for that time. Either it is priced into the rate, which is what the AED 180 to 500 band reflects, or it is absorbed by the tutor, in which case the pool of people willing to take the booking shrinks to those who live nearby.

That second effect is the one that quietly costs a family the most. A ten-kilometre radius around Jumeirah 2 contains a limited number of teachers who can mark MYP Sciences criterion B properly. Restrict the search to that radius and the constraint stops being subject expertise and becomes driving distance. Remove the radius and the constraint is availability at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, which is a far weaker one.

IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE at all, so this is not a product comparison we have an easy answer to; home visits are an India-only service for us. What we can do is show the arithmetic and let it stand. The table sets the three realistic formats against each other on the terms that matter in this neighbourhood.

Reading an MYP report card before you spend anything

The cheapest hour of MYP tutoring is the one you decide not to buy, and the report card tells you which hours those are. Every MYP subject is assessed against four criteria, lettered A to D, each marked out of 8. Four strands at 8 marks gives a subject total out of 32, which the school converts into a 1 to 7 grade using published boundaries. A parent who can read the four numbers instead of the single grade can usually see the problem without paying anybody to find it.

The diagnostic pattern is simple. A child with high criterion A marks and low B and C marks does not have a knowledge problem; they have an inquiry and processing problem, and no amount of content revision will move it. A child with the reverse profile is thinking well and has not learned the material. A child flat across all four is usually in the wrong phase or set rather than in need of a tutor. Each of those three profiles costs a different amount to fix, and the third is often free.

The criteria are not identical across the eight subject groups, which is where parents lose the thread. Criterion B in Sciences is inquiring and designing; criterion B in Mathematics is investigating patterns; criterion B in Language and Literature is organizing. Same letter, different skill, different fix. The table lists the four strands for the five groups Dubai families book most often, so the letters on the report mean something before the first session is paid for.

One practical note for Jumeirah 2 households with children in two systems: an MYP 4 report and a Year 10 report cannot be compared. A 5 in MYP Sciences is not a grade 5 at IGCSE, and treating them as equivalent is how families end up buying tuition for the child who needs it less.

Where Jumeirah 2 families waste money on MYP tutoring

  • Set a numbered target per criterion, with a date, before paying for a single session
  • Diagnose the root skill across subjects before booking a tutor per subject
  • Save premium rates for Higher Level DP subjects, where scarcity is real
  • Ask the MYP coordinator what the school already provides, then buy only the gap

Four spending mistakes account for most of the wasted money in this market, and all four are avoidable without knowing anything about the IB. The first is buying hours instead of buying a target. A booking described as "maths help, ongoing" has no finish line, so it renews indefinitely and nobody ever asks whether it worked. A booking described as "raise criterion D in Mathematics from 4 to 6 by the next summative" either succeeds or is cancelled.

The second is buying too many subjects at once. An MYP report shows eight subject groups, and a weak-looking report usually has one root cause expressed in several places: a child who cannot structure written analysis will look weak in Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies and Sciences criterion D simultaneously. Three tutors at mid-market rates is roughly AED 2,400 a month. One tutor working on written structure is a third of that and often fixes all three.

The third is paying premium rates for pre-DP content. The genuine scarcity premium in Dubai sits on Higher Level Diploma subjects, where few local teachers have taught the current syllabus. MYP content, for a qualified subject teacher, is not scarce. Paying AED 500 an hour for MYP 3 Sciences buys a very good teacher doing something a competent one does equally well, and the money would do more work two years later.

The fourth is paying for the school's own job twice. The Personal Project has a school supervisor. Interdisciplinary units are set and marked in school. Service as action is logged in school. Hiring external help for any of those before speaking to the coordinator who runs them is the most common unnecessary line on a Dubai tutoring invoice, and the conversation is free.

05

The school run, and when a session can realistically start

  • Earliest dependable weekday start from this corridor: around 4.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Most reliable term-long slot: 5pm to 6pm, with 7pm to 8pm a strong second option
  • Friday and weekend mornings suit longer blocks before a summative
  • Ramadan sessions move to early afternoon or after Iftar, same tutor and weekday

Dubai school days in this corridor finish between roughly 2.30pm and 3.30pm, and the bus or car run adds twenty to fifty minutes depending on which direction the child is travelling and whether the route crosses Al Wasl Road at the wrong moment. For a Jumeirah 2 family the practical first slot is therefore around 4.30pm, with 5pm the time that holds up reliably across a whole term rather than for the first fortnight.

Online delivery matters here in a way that has nothing to do with teaching quality. An online session can start at 4.35pm because the child walks from the front door to a desk. An in-home session cannot start at 4.35pm with any confidence, because the tutor is somewhere on Sheikh Zayed Road. Families who have run both formats usually report the same thing: the online slot is the one that survives contact with a real week.

The second half of the evening is underused. Sessions at 7pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time are widely available, and for households where both parents work in DIFC or Business Bay they are frequently better, because a parent can be present for the last ten minutes when the tutor summarises what moved. For MYP 4 and MYP 5 students a later slot also sits after sport and after the worst of the homework fatigue.

Ramadan reshapes all of this, and it is worth planning for rather than improvising. School hours shorten, and the useful tutoring window moves either to the early afternoon or to after Iftar. Both work online. Both are difficult to hold together if somebody has to drive. Families who shift to a post-Iftar slot for the month generally keep the same tutor and the same weekday, which is the point of booking a format that does not depend on traffic.

06

Academic honesty: what an MYP tutor may and may not touch

This matters more in the MYP than families expect, because so much of the assessment is coursework produced at home. The IB's academic honesty requirements apply from MYP 1, not just in the Diploma, and the Personal Project in MYP 5 carries a declaration that the work is the student's own. A tutor who crosses that line exposes the student, not the tutor.

The boundary is workable and clear. A tutor may teach the underlying skill, explain what a descriptor is asking for, model the technique on a different example, read a finished draft and say where it falls short of the criterion, and ask questions that make a student rethink their own argument. A tutor may not supply sentences to be copied, restructure a draft on the student's behalf, choose the research question, or hand over a method for a criterion B investigation.

Some of this market does cross the line. Research into the UAE tutoring search results found a provider selling completed Internal Assessments outright, which is an academic-integrity breach and a malpractice trigger for any student who buys one. No tutor on this platform produces a Personal Project, an interdisciplinary task or a Sciences investigation for a student, and no tutor here will edit a draft to the point where the words are no longer the student's.

For parents the practical test is the one you can apply yourself after a session. Ask your child to explain the change they made and why the descriptor required it. If they can, the help was teaching. If they cannot, it was production, and the mark it earns belongs to someone else. That question costs nothing and is the most reliable quality check available to a family buying coursework support.

07

Permits, regulators and what a Jumeirah 2 parent can verify

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free of charge, valid two years
  • Introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No published fine schedule, so treat any quoted amount as unverified
  • Dubai schools are inspected by KHDA; tutors are permitted by MoHRE, not by KHDA

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through its app, website and e-services.

Two consequences follow for a family comparing quotes. First, nobody can justify a higher rate on the grounds of permit costs, because there are none. Second, a tutor who has no view on the permit question at all is worth a second look. Individuals providing private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so any specific amount quoted at you is unverified.

The school side is a different regulator. Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which inspects them annually and publishes the outcome. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, Sharjah with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. A permit to tutor privately is not a KHDA school licence and does not imply one, and IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or any examination board.

There is one more figure worth knowing while budgeting. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For a family planning a five-year MYP spend, a flat school fee year is the right moment to decide how much of the tutoring budget is genuinely needed rather than habitual.

08

Arabic, Islamic Education and the subjects that sit alongside the MYP

Families moving into Jumeirah 2 from outside the UAE are regularly surprised that their child's IB timetable includes subjects the IB does not set. Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The rules are specific, and they explain timetable decisions that otherwise look arbitrary. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Schools may vary the length of a lesson provided the total weekly time is met, and the guidance advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. For the mandatory UAE subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, which is a genuine constraint on how any tutoring in these subjects can be described or delivered.

The budgeting point is that these subjects carry real marks on a Dubai school report and real consequences for progression, yet they are almost never included when a family plans tutoring spend. An MYP student struggling in Arabic as an additional language is a common and fixable case; an MYP student whose parents discover the requirement in MYP 4 has lost years of easy progress. Ask the school which stream your child is in before you assume the subject is decorative.

09

Getting started without losing the first month

  • Write down criterion marks, not grades, from the last two reports
  • Target the weakest strand and name the assessment it will next be tested in
  • Use the free trial to test whether descriptors are explained in plain language
  • Start with one subject and review after six weeks against the same criterion

The first month is where most of the avoidable spend happens, because families begin paying before anybody has agreed what success looks like. The sequence that avoids it is short. Pull the last two MYP reports and write down the four criterion marks per subject rather than the grades. Identify the lowest strand, not the lowest subject. Name the next assessment that strand will be tested in, and its date. That is a brief, and a tutor can work to it from the first session.

Then take the free trial lesson. A trial is worth having for one reason: it shows whether the tutor can explain a descriptor to your child in language your child uses. If a tutor talks about the criterion without ever showing what a 7-out-of-8 answer looks like against a 4, that is the wrong tutor regardless of credentials or rate. The trial is free and carries no obligation to continue.

Be honest with yourself about volume at the start. One subject, one hour a week, reviewed after six weeks against the criterion mark you wrote down, is the booking that both works and stays affordable across five years of the programme. Two subjects is sometimes right. Four is almost never right in the MYP, and families who start at four usually end the term having spent a great deal to learn which one mattered.

If no specialist is free at the hour you want, we say so rather than filling the slot. For a niche MYP combination the honest answer is sometimes a different weekday, a different time, or a wait of a few days. For a Jumeirah 2 family that is a far better outcome than being matched with whoever was available, which is the failure mode of booking by postcode rather than by subject.

Jumeirah 2 runs between Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road, with Jumeirah 1 to the east and Jumeirah 3 to the west. Because every lesson is delivered online, the areas below are served on identical terms and at identical rates; the only thing that changes is the time of day a family wants.

Jumeirah 1

The older, denser end of the corridor, with the shortest school runs and the earliest realistic session start. Families here often ask for a 4.30pm slot and get it.

Jumeirah 3

Larger villa plots and a longer run back from the Al Safa and Umm Suqeim schools. A 5pm start is more reliable here than a 4.15pm one during term.

Al Wasl

Sits directly inland of Jumeirah 2 along the same spine road. Siblings in different programmes are common, so parents frequently book MYP and IGCSE slots back to back.

Al Safa

Feeds several of the British-curriculum schools closest to Jumeirah 2, which is why IGCSE enquiries from here outnumber MYP ones by a wide margin.

Umm Suqeim

The next stretch of coast west, with a heavier IB presence and more MYP 4 and MYP 5 enquiries built around the Personal Project year.

Al Manara

Inland, quieter, and one of the areas where a 6.30pm or 7pm session is actually preferred because both parents commute from Business Bay or DIFC.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Newer coastal addresses with younger cohorts, so most enquiries are PYP into MYP 1 transition work rather than exam-year support.

City Walk

Apartment living with no study-room assumption, so lessons here are often booked for a quieter hour after dinner, which online delivery makes trivial to arrange.

IB continuum schools within reach of Jumeirah 2

These are the Dubai schools running the Middle Years Programme as part of a full IB continuum, which is where an MYP enquiry from this postcode usually originates. Naming them is context about the cohort our tutors teach, nothing more.

  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Uptown International School

British-curriculum neighbours along the Jumeirah corridor

The same streets send children to British schools that run IGCSE at 16, which is why households here often need two different kinds of tutoring at once. Knowing which model a child is actually in prevents a term of the wrong help.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School
  • Horizon English School
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • Safa British School
  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Dubai

Schools are named to describe the Dubai cohort our tutors teach and the regulator that inspects them; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied or held.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report, not a summary

Share the last two MYP reports and the subject-group criterion marks. Four numbers per subject tell us more than a paragraph of description, because they show whether the obstacle is knowledge, inquiry, communication or evaluation. It takes a parent five minutes and saves a paid diagnostic session.

  2. 02

Agree the target and the date

We write down the strand to move, the mark it sits at now, the mark we are aiming for and the assessment that will test it. A target with a date is what makes it possible to stop. Open-ended bookings are the main reason Dubai families overspend on tutoring across a five-year programme.

  3. 03

Match on subject group and time slot

Matching is done on who can teach that subject group's criteria at the hour you want on Gulf Standard Time, not on who lives nearest Jumeirah 2. If nobody suitable is free in your preferred window, we tell you and offer the alternatives rather than filling the slot with a generalist.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson, no payment, no obligation. The test is whether the tutor can show your child the difference between a mid-band and a top-band answer against the actual descriptor. If that does not happen in the trial, it will not happen in week six either, and you should ask for a different tutor.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks against the number

At six weeks we compare the criterion mark with the one written down at the start. If it has moved, the booking continues. If it has not, we change the tutor, change the target or stop. Reviewing against a number rather than a feeling is what keeps a five-year spend honest.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED bands are published, with sources

Three of the six pages ranking for Dubai tutoring searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in dollars. This page shows the AED bands, names the provider who published each one, and states plainly that they are market rates rather than ours.

Criteria before content

MYP marks are earned against four lettered strands per subject, and most paid tutoring in this market only ever touches criterion A. Our tutors work to the descriptor the school is marking, which is why a session can raise a criterion B mark without covering new content at all.

No travel line on the invoice

Lessons run one-to-one over live video. Nobody drives down Al Wasl Road at 5pm, so nothing in the rate pays for a car, and the hour you book is an hour of teaching. IB Gram does not provide home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

A tutor chosen by subject, not by postcode

Restricting a search to a short drive around Jumeirah 2 narrows the pool to geography. Online delivery makes the binding constraint availability at your preferred hour instead, which means a Sciences criterion B specialist rather than the nearest available generalist.

Honest limits, stated up front

If no specialist covers a niche subject group at the time you want, we say so and offer alternatives. We hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and we publish no statistic we cannot evidence.

A free trial before any payment

The first lesson costs nothing and commits you to nothing further. It exists so a parent can test the one thing that matters in MYP tutoring: whether this particular teacher can make a descriptor make sense to this particular child.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 2: your questions answered

What does an IB MYP tutor in Jumeirah 2 cost per hour in 2026?+

Market rates in Dubai run from roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour depending on who is teaching. EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to 65 for budget online tutoring and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; Unitors publishes online rates from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB; TutorChase publishes AED 270; BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts a qualified specialist at AED 200 to 450 and upwards. For MYP work specifically, the AED 150 to 300 band is where a qualified subject teacher who can mark against the criteria normally sits.

Is MYP tutoring usually cheaper than IB Diploma tutoring in Dubai?+

Yes, and the reason is supply rather than difficulty. Diploma Higher Level subjects need a teacher who has taught that exact syllabus recently, and in Dubai there are fewer of those than there are Middle Years Programme teachers, so the scarcity premium sits on DP. A competent subject specialist handles MYP content comfortably, which keeps the sensible band at AED 150 to 300 rather than AED 400 and upwards. The practical conclusion for a family planning five years of spend is to buy mid-market during the MYP and reserve the premium budget for DP1 and DP2.

How many MYP sessions a week do families on the Jumeirah coast usually start with?+

One hour a week on one subject group is the most common and usually the right start. An MYP report shows eight subject groups, so a weak-looking report tempts parents into booking three or four tutors at once, which in Dubai costs roughly AED 1,800 to 2,400 a month at mid-market rates. In most cases a single underlying skill, such as written analysis or interpreting data, is producing low marks in several subjects simultaneously. Fix the skill once, review the criterion mark after six weeks, and add a second subject only if the first one has moved.

Where do parents most often waste money on MYP tutoring?+

Four places. Buying hours with no target, so the booking renews forever and nobody asks whether it worked. Buying several subjects when one root skill is causing all the low marks. Paying premium Diploma rates for MYP content that a mid-market teacher handles equally well. And paying externally for work the school already supervises, such as the Personal Project or an interdisciplinary unit. The fix for all four is the same: write down a criterion mark and a date before paying, and talk to the MYP coordinator first, which costs nothing.

Does a budget tutor at AED 50 an hour understand MYP criteria A to D?+

Sometimes, but it is not what you are buying at that rate. The lower band of the Dubai market mostly delivers homework supervision: keeping a child on task, unblocking a question, holding a routine together. That has real value in a difficult term. What it rarely includes is the ability to look at a criterion B descriptor, explain why an investigation method sits at 4 out of 8 rather than 7, and rework the skill. Ask a direct question before booking: which criterion are we targeting, and what does a top-band response look like?

Will a tutor come to our villa in Jumeirah 2 for MYP lessons?+

Not through IB Gram. We deliver one-to-one tuition online over live video everywhere in the UAE, and we do not provide home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Independent in-home tutors in Dubai do exist and are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits circulating widely. The difference between those figures and the online band is largely travel, not teaching quality.

What does the in-home travel premium actually buy on this part of the coast?+

Mostly it buys physical presence and a shorter pool of available teachers. A round trip to Jumeirah 2 through the 5pm window on Jumeirah Beach Road or Al Wasl Road rarely takes less than forty minutes, and that time is either priced into the hourly rate or absorbed by the tutor. When it is absorbed, the people willing to take the booking are those who live nearby, so the search narrows from subject expertise to driving distance. If a child genuinely needs someone in the room to stay on task, that premium can be worth paying.

Can one tutor cover both Mathematics and Sciences for the same MYP child?+

Often yes, and in the Middle Years Programme it is more workable than it would be at Diploma level, because the content is not yet specialised. What matters is whether the tutor knows both sets of criteria, which are different: criterion B in Mathematics is investigating patterns, while criterion B in Sciences is inquiring and designing. A teacher who treats them as the same strand will raise one and leave the other flat. Ask the question directly before booking a combined slot, and expect a specific answer about both descriptor sets.

How is an MYP grade out of 7 worked out from the criterion marks?+

Each of the four criteria in a subject is marked out of 8, giving a subject total out of 32. The school then converts that total into a 1 to 7 grade using published boundaries. This is why two children with the same grade 5 can need completely different help: one may have 7, 4, 4, 5 across the strands and the other 4, 6, 6, 4. Reading the four numbers rather than the single grade is the most useful thing a parent can do before spending anything on tutoring.

Should we start MYP support in MYP 3 or wait until MYP 5?+

It depends on which strand is weak. If criterion A marks are low, the gap is knowledge and can be caught up later without much loss. If criterion B, C or D marks are low, the gap is a skill that compounds, and waiting two years means the same skill is now being tested on harder content under more time pressure. Investigation, data processing and critical evaluation are all cheaper to build in MYP 3 than to repair in MYP 5, and they transfer directly into Diploma internal assessments afterwards.

What is a paid tutor allowed to do on the MYP Personal Project?+

Yes, within clear limits. The Personal Project is supervised in school and carries a declaration that the work is the student's own. A tutor may coach the process: how to narrow a goal, how to keep a usable process journal, how to read the criteria, and what a strong reflection does. A tutor must not choose the topic, supply text to be copied, restructure the report, or produce any part of it. The test a parent can apply is simple: ask your child to explain each change and why the criterion needed it.

Does my child still take Arabic and Islamic Education alongside the MYP in Dubai?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are prohibited. These subjects carry real marks on a Dubai report, so include them when you plan a tutoring budget rather than discovering them in MYP 4.

Does a private tutor working with a Jumeirah 2 family need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat specific amounts you are quoted as unverified. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service.

What happens to the fee if we stop after the free trial lesson?+

Nothing is owed. The trial lesson is free and carries no obligation to book anything further, and no card details are needed to take it. If you continue, you pay for the sessions you book and nothing else; there is no registration fee, no joining charge and no minimum term across a programme that runs five years. If the match is wrong after the trial, say so and we will offer a different tutor rather than asking you to persist with one your child did not respond to.

How should MYP eAssessment change what we pay for in MYP 5?+

If your school registers students for the on-screen eAssessment route to the IB MYP Certificate, MYP 5 stops being purely coursework-driven and gains a timed, externally marked component. That shifts the useful spend from open-ended weekly support towards short, targeted blocks on exam technique: reading the command term, allocating time across a paper, and writing to the descriptor under pressure. Ask the MYP coordinator whether your child is entered, because the answer changes the shape of the booking and usually reduces the total number of hours needed.

Price the programme, not the hour

A Middle Years Programme lasts five years, and the families who spend sensibly on it are the ones who decide what each hour is for before they buy it. Pull the last two reports, read the four criterion marks rather than the grade, pick the weakest strand and name the assessment it will next be tested in. Then take a free trial lesson and see whether the tutor can explain that descriptor in language your child uses. Lessons run one-to-one online over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled after the Jumeirah school run, and you can stop after six weeks if the number has not moved.
