IB Home Tutor in Bluewaters Island

Families looking for an IB home tutor in Bluewaters Island rarely have a budget problem. They have a value problem: it is very easy here to spend AED 4,000 a month on tutoring that a well-chosen AED 1,200 would have beaten. This page is about where the money goes, where it is wasted, and what each rate band actually buys. IB Gram teaches Bluewaters students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Bluewaters Island

The problem here is not the budget, it is what the budget buys

Bluewaters Island is a small residential population in high-value apartments, connected to Dubai Marina and JBR by a single road bridge and a pedestrian link. It has no school on it. Children here are bussed or driven to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, The Greens, Jumeirah Park or Emirates Hills, and the households are, on the whole, able to pay whatever tutoring costs. That turns out to be the problem rather than the solution.

A note on what this page is not. It is not an argument that tutoring is expensive, or that Bluewaters families are being overcharged by anybody in particular. The rates published across this market are, on the whole, what the people charging them believe their time is worth, and several are reasonable. The failure is upstream of price: nothing in this search explains which kind of work needs which kind of tutor, so the match is made on marketing confidence rather than on diagnosis, and a confident page at the top of the market will always out-market a competent one in the middle of it.

When price is not a constraint, families default to the top of the market, because the top of the market is where the confident marketing is. Published Dubai rates run from AED 45 an hour at the budget end to AED 650 at the premium end, a fourteen-fold spread, and nothing on those pages explains which band a particular piece of work actually needs. So a student who needs forty minutes a week of someone checking their algebra gets an examiner-led specialist at AED 650, and a student who genuinely needs criterion-level Internal Assessment supervision gets a university student at AED 65 because the package looked reasonable.

Both are overspends. The second is worse, because it also wastes the term. The useful discipline is to diagnose the work first and then choose the band, which inverts how almost every tutoring purchase in this emirate is made.

So this page leads with money. What Bluewaters families actually pay per month, with the market sources. The six specific places the money gets wasted, named plainly. What each band genuinely buys and does not buy. The travel premium, which on an island with one bridge is not a rounding error. And the package structures that look economical and are not.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visiting is a service we run in India only, and every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. On a cost page that fact is load-bearing rather than incidental: a substantial share of what an in-home hour costs in this market is the journey, and on Bluewaters the journey has one route on and off the island.

Every AED figure on this page was read in October 2026 from competitor pages and the Bestimate 2026 Dubai rate table, and each is attributed. They describe the market, not our price list. We do not publish a price list on these pages, because the honest answer to what tutoring should cost depends entirely on what the tutoring has to do, and that is what a free trial lesson is for. A family that knows which band the work needs can judge any quotation in this market, including ours, which is a more useful thing to be given than a number.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes matter to Bluewaters households, and the cost profile of each is genuinely different. Knowing which one you are buying for prevents the most common overspend of all.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Six transdisciplinary themes, continuous assessment, no external examination. The support that pays off is narrow: number fluency, reading stamina, and writing a paragraph that answers the question asked. None of it requires examination expertise, which means none of it requires the specialist band.

This is where Bluewaters families most often overpay. A PYP child needing reading practice and number facts is well served at the lower end of the market, and a premium specialist adds nothing a patient tutor at a third of the price would not provide. Short, frequent sessions also work better at this age than long ones, which reduces the bill further.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria scored one to eight, converted to a 1-7 grade. The highest-return work is criterion literacy: reading the published descriptor for the band above and redrafting one piece to meet it. That needs a tutor who will do it rigorously, not an examiner.

MYP support sits comfortably in the qualified subject tutor band at roughly AED 150-300 an hour. The exception is the Personal Project in the final MYP year, where criterion-level feedback genuinely benefits from somebody who has assessed against the descriptors, and the bridging block before DP1, which is specialist work.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, with a maximum of 45 points. Each subject carries an internally assessed component worth roughly twenty per cent, and each has papers with their own mark-scheme conventions.

This is the one stage where the specialist band earns its premium, and only for specific work: Internal Assessment supervision against the published criteria, Higher Level paper technique, and the third paper in subjects that have one. Content catch-up at Diploma level does not need it, and that distinction is worth several thousand dirhams across two years.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and language development. Provision is limited in the UAE, and where a student takes Diploma courses within it, those courses are taught and tutored identically.

Families considering the Career-related Programme from Bluewaters are usually weighing a specific campus rather than a curriculum, since provision is thin. For the Diploma courses inside it, the same cost logic applies: pay the specialist band for internally assessed work and paper technique, and not for content revision.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects Bluewaters families request most, with a note on where the money in each one is well spent. The pattern is that internally assessed components justify specialist rates and content revision does not.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency, with a third paper at Higher Level worth roughly a fifth of the grade. Paper 3 technique is specialist work. Practising quadratics and logarithm rules is not, and buying the latter at AED 450 an hour is the commonest single overspend in this subject.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology use, with the graphical calculator assumed throughout. Calculator fluency can be built by any competent tutor. Interpreting a regression in context the way the upper band requires is where mark-scheme familiarity starts to matter.

Physics

HL and SL

Themes with Higher Level extensions, assessed by two papers plus a scientific investigation at roughly twenty per cent. Uncertainty treatment and investigation criteria are specialist work. Revising kinematics is not, and the two are frequently sold at the same price.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity as integrated strands. Mechanism notation and investigation criteria justify the specialist band. Mole drill, which is the highest-return work in the subject, can be supervised competently at the budget end for a fraction of the cost.

Biology

HL and SL

High content volume with precise terminology demands. Most of the lost marks are command-term and vocabulary precision, which is teachable by a good subject tutor. The investigation is where specialist criterion knowledge changes the outcome.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy decides most of the grade, plus a portfolio of three commentaries at 800 words each. Diagram drilling is mid-band work. Commentary feedback against the published criteria is specialist work, and the two are rarely distinguished when a package is sold.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral, and at HL a 1,200-1,500 word essay. Global issue selection for the oral is the one place where experienced judgement is worth paying for; essay structure practice is not.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools examined for application rather than recall, with a pre-released case study for Paper 1 and an 1,800-word research project at Higher Level. The research project justifies specialist support; case study familiarisation does not and is often sold as though it does.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition with 950 words of commentary, contributing up to three points with the Extended Essay. Prescribed title interpretation is genuinely specialist work and one of the better uses of a premium hour.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece supervised by the school. Research question narrowing in the first weeks is where external support has the greatest effect per hour, and where a few specialist sessions beat a term of general writing help.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, set out by what they cost and what they are actually for. The cheapest of the three is the right answer more often than families expect.

Weekly one-to-one, single subject

One 60-minute session a week with the same specialist, at a fixed time. Twelve hours a term, which at the qualified band of AED 150-300 an hour is AED 1,800 to AED 3,600 and at the specialist band of AED 200-450 is AED 2,400 to AED 5,400. For most students in most terms this is the whole purchase, and buying more rarely improves the outcome.

  • Fixed slot that survives the school run from Al Sufouh or Emirates Hills
  • Plan follows your child's school assessment calendar, not a generic scheme
  • Written note after each session naming what was covered and set
  • Stop at the end of any month without a notice period or a renewal

Short targeted block, one deliverable

Six to ten sessions aimed at one thing: an Internal Assessment, a Paper 3 technique problem, a command-term structure problem. Priced as a block so the end is visible from the start, and consistently better value than an open-ended arrangement because the finish date forces the work to be specific.

  • Defined deliverable and a defined number of sessions
  • Specialist band used only where criterion or paper knowledge is needed
  • Progress reviewed at the halfway point rather than at the end
  • Nothing renews when the block finishes

Mixed-band arrangement across two subjects

The arrangement we recommend most often and nobody advertises. A specialist at the higher band for the internally assessed work, a competent subject tutor at the lower band for content drill in the second subject. Same total hours, materially lower cost, and better matched to what each piece of work actually needs.

  • Diagnosis first, band chosen per piece of work rather than per family
  • Specialist hours reserved for criteria, paper technique and core essays
  • Lower band used for drill, checking working and content consolidation
  • Both tutors work to the same written plan so nothing is duplicated

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Bluewaters Island

01

What Bluewaters families actually pay, by month

Monthly is the right unit, because that is how the commitment is felt. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions put budget support at AED 240-600 a month, mid-tier at AED 600-1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more. A Diploma student with one weekly session in two subjects sits at the top of that range for most of DP2, which is where the annual figure starts to concentrate a family's attention.

Market packages tell the same story from a different angle. Monthly packages seen on competitor pages in October 2026 include AED 799 for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. The online package looks like excellent value per session, at just under AED 100 an hour, and the questions worth asking are who the tutor is, whether they teach that subject at that level, and what happens to the unused sessions when a school trip eats a fortnight.

The in-home package is instructive in another way. Four two-hour sessions at AED 1,599 is AED 200 an hour, which sits at the lower end of the published in-home band of AED 180-350. For a Bluewaters address, with one bridge on and off the island at school-run hours, a tutor pricing at the bottom of that band is either local, generous with their time, or unlikely to keep the arrangement for a full term.

What none of these figures tells you is whether the hours will do the job, which is the only question that matters. That is why we start with a free trial lesson and a diagnosis rather than a quotation.

The six places the money gets wasted

These are the six overspends we see most often in high-value Dubai communities, and all six are avoidable with a diagnosis. None of them involves a dishonest tutor; they are structural mismatches between what was bought and what was needed.

First, premium rates for procedural drill. A student practising quadratics, mole calculations or French verb endings needs supervision and patience, not examination expertise. At AED 650 an hour that is the single most expensive way to buy something available at AED 65. Second, open-ended weekly arrangements for a problem that was a six-session problem. The arrangement continues because nobody set an end date, and after week ten it is a habit rather than an intervention.

Third, three concurrent subject tutors when component marks would have identified one subject as the priority. Fourth, large session counts in holiday intensives, which usually produce a tired student and a flat January. Fifth, paying for hours in the final weeks before a session when the internally assessed twenty per cent of each grade is already fixed and only paper technique remains, which is real but narrow work.

Sixth, and most costly in a different currency, buying the cheap option for work that genuinely needed the specialist. Internal Assessment supervision from somebody who has never assessed against the published criteria is not a bargain; it is a term spent on a piece of work that will be marked against descriptors nobody in the room had read. That one is the expensive mistake, and it is the one price comparison cannot catch.

03

The travel premium, and what one bridge does to it

In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 table, with individual home tutors quoting up to AED 500 for specialist levels. Qualified subject tutors delivered online sit at roughly AED 150-300. The difference, somewhere between AED 50 and AED 150 an hour, is the journey, and it is the largest single line item in the comparison even though no invoice itemises it.

Bluewaters makes this unusually visible. The island has one road bridge. A tutor coming from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh at five in the afternoon faces Sheikh Zayed Road, then the Marina approach, then the bridge, then visitor parking in a residential tower. The segment that looks shortest on a map, the last kilometre, is frequently the slowest, and a tutor who teaches two island families in an evening spends a large part of the evening stationary.

There is a second cost that does not appear as money. A tutor who can reach Bluewaters in the window a Diploma student is awake is selected from a geographic pool rather than a subject pool. For Chemistry at Higher Level with Internal Assessment supervision, that filter removes most of the people who could actually do the job, and the family ends up paying a premium rate for a general science teacher.

IB Gram does not offer UAE home visits, so this is not a comparison between two things we sell. It is the reason we only sell one of them here. For a Primary Years child who needs somebody physically present, an independent local tutor can genuinely be the better choice, and we will say so.

04

What each band genuinely buys, and what it does not

The fourteen-fold spread between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour is real, and so are the differences behind it. What is missing from the market is any explanation of which work needs which, so here it is in plain terms.

The budget band, AED 45-150, buys supervision, repetition and a second pair of eyes. EdFlik lists AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. That is genuinely enough for mole drill, quadratic practice, vocabulary work, reading practice at Primary Years level, and checking a student's working. It is not enough for Internal Assessment criteria, Higher Level paper technique, or anything requiring knowledge of how a specific component is marked.

The qualified band, AED 150-300, buys a competent subject teacher who can teach the course properly, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. This is the working band for most students most of the time, and the one a family defaults away from too readily. The specialist band, AED 200-450, with TutorChase at AED 270, buys mark-scheme fluency and criterion-level judgement, and it is worth the premium for internally assessed work, third papers and core essays.

The premium band, AED 500-650 and above, with BartyED at AED 650, buys narrow, specific expertise at the very top of a Higher Level subject. There are students for whom that is the right purchase: a candidate aiming at a 7 in a subject where they are already at a 6 and the remaining gap is specialised. For everybody else it is a rate without a matching problem, and we will say so rather than taking it.

Package structures that look economical and are not

  • Ask who teaches the sessions, by name, and whether it is the same person each week
  • Ask what happens to unused sessions during exam leave, half-term or travel
  • Ask whether the tutor teaches that subject at that level, not just the subject
  • Ask whether the provider will ever recommend fewer hours
  • Compare total cost against a diagnosed block, not against an hourly rate

A monthly package at AED 799 for eight online sessions works out at just under AED 100 an hour, which reads as a bargain against a specialist at AED 270. Whether it is depends entirely on three things the page does not tell you: who teaches the session, whether they teach that subject at that level, and what happens when life interrupts.

The expiry question is the one families regret. Eight sessions a month assumes eight usable weeks of attention a month, and a Dubai school year contains trips, exam leave, half-terms, Ramadan and family travel. A package that expires monthly turns every disrupted fortnight into forfeited value, and across a year that leakage can exceed the discount that attracted you.

The second issue is substitution. Large session counts at low prices are usually supported by a pool of tutors rather than one named person, and continuity is most of what makes tutoring work over months. A tutor who knows what your child misunderstood three weeks ago is doing something a new tutor each month cannot.

The third is scope. Eight hours a month of unfocused support is worse value than four hours aimed at a diagnosed problem, even at a higher hourly rate. The question to ask any provider is not what the hourly rate is. It is what the eight sessions are for, who teaches them, what happens to unused sessions, and whether they will tell you when fewer hours would do.

06

Tutoring cost in context: fees, and what the freeze means

  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • Dubai had 387,441 students in 227 private schools in 2024-25 across 17 curricula
  • IB students were 7 per cent of the Dubai private cohort in 2024-25
  • Seven new private schools for 2026-27, three of them IB, adding 16,846 places
  • Tutoring is not required for equivalency, admission or progression

A tutoring decision reads differently depending on what else is moving. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a Bluewaters family, that means the largest education line in the household budget is flat for the year.

The sector context is worth knowing too. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. For 2026-27, seven new private schools are being added, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

Those figures matter for a cost page because they describe a market that is growing rather than tightening, with more IB provision arriving. More provision eventually means more teachers, which is the supply side of the tutoring market. It does not mean cheaper tutoring next term, but it does mean the scarcity argument used to justify premium rates deserves scrutiny.

What we would not do is suggest that tutoring is required. It is not required for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, and any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. Tutoring is a purchase that should be justified by a diagnosed problem, and when there is not one, the honest recommendation is to spend nothing.

07

The one purchase never worth making

  • Purchased assessed work is malpractice and the finding falls on the student
  • One operator in our research sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750
  • A tutor teaches criteria, questions method and reviews the student's own drafts
  • We do not reproduce or distribute IB papers, mark schemes or subject guides
  • A written session record is available if the school asks what support was given

There is a part of this market that sells finished assessed work. One operator in our competitor research advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. On a page about where money is wasted, this is the clearest case: it is not a bad deal, it is a transfer of risk onto a child.

Submitting purchased work is academic malpractice under IB rules. The finding goes against the student, not the seller, and the consequences reach the Diploma itself rather than a single subject grade. No saving on hours justifies it and no deadline pressure makes it reasonable, which is why we state it on every page even though it is not a sales argument.

The legitimate version is clear and it is what we do. A tutor teaches the subject content the assessment rests on, explains each criterion and what the descriptors require, questions a research question until it is answerable, discusses method and whether the data will support a conclusion, reads a draft the student wrote and says where it falls short, and teaches referencing. That is teaching, and it is what the specialist band is genuinely worth paying for.

What a tutor must not do is write any part of the work, supply text, rewrite a paragraph to final form, generate data, or choose the topic on the student's behalf. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, which are copyright material. Where a school asks what external support a student received, we can provide a written record of sessions and what was taught.

08

Permits, regulators and how to verify what you are buying

  • Ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition permit and when it expires
  • KHDA inspection reports for Dubai private schools are public and free to read
  • No official fine schedule for unpermitted tutoring is published; distrust any amount
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to institutes with premises, not to us
  • Treat any star rating that cannot be traced to countable reviews as marketing

Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, with annual inspections published from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah has SPEA; Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge; and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Individual tutors need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its app, website or e-services system. u.ae states that tutoring without the permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram does not hold one, has no UAE premises, and is not IB authorised, KHDA approved, ADEK approved or Cambridge accredited. Any provider describing itself as approved should be asked which permit it means.

On verification generally: never accept a star rating that cannot be traced to real, countable reviews. Two competitors in our research publish different review counts on the same page, and one shows five stars from twenty reviews beside a claim of 2,500 students. We publish no aggregate rating, because we have no audited one to publish.

Where we tutor

Bluewaters and the communities it shares a bridge with

Six neighbouring communities, noted for what they mean for the cost and logistics of tutoring. Bluewaters is unusual in this cluster because everything on and off the island uses one route.

Bluewaters Island

A single road bridge and a pedestrian link to JBR. No school on the island, so every child commutes. For an in-home tutor, the bridge is a bottleneck at exactly the hours a student is free, and the rate reflects it.

Dubai Marina

Directly across the bridge and the densest tower cluster in this part of Dubai. Visitor parking and building access add time to any in-home visit, which is priced into the market rate rather than itemised on it.

JBR

The beachfront strip immediately adjoining the Bluewaters link. Convenient on paper and slow in practice between five and seven, when The Walk traffic and the Marina exit interact badly.

JLT

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, well served by metro and tram. A larger pool of tutors lives here than on Bluewaters, which matters only for in-home arrangements and not at all for online ones.

The Greens and The Views

Low-rise apartments with Regent International School in The Greens. Shorter school runs than Bluewaters, and a community where families often compare notes on what tutoring costs.

Al Sufouh

Home to several established campuses including Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School. A short drive from Bluewaters off-peak and a slow one at school-run times.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Villa communities inland with Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Emirates International School Meadows. Where a number of Bluewaters Diploma students actually study, and a twenty-five to forty minute drive depending on the hour.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Bluewaters Island

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The ring of established campuses most Bluewaters secondary students attend. A mix of British and IB provision, which is why a single household on the island can be paying for IGCSE support for one child and Diploma support for another in the same month.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Diagnose before quoting

Send the subject, the level, the school and a recent marked script. The script tells us whether the problem is drill, technique or criteria, and that determines which band the work needs. Choosing the band before the diagnosis is how a family ends up paying AED 650 an hour for quadratic practice.

  2. 02

One matched tutor at the right band

You get one named tutor who teaches that subject at that level, with their background, where they are based and the hourly band they sit in. If the work does not need our most expensive specialist, we say so, which is the only way the rest of this page means anything.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson, then decide

A real teaching hour on this week's sticking point, followed by a short written note on what the tutor found. No card is held and nothing renews. If you decide against continuing, that is the end of it, and if the match is wrong we rematch once at no charge.

  4. 04

Set an end date, not a subscription

Most problems are six to ten session problems. We write the finish into the plan so the arrangement concludes rather than becoming a standing cost, and we review at the halfway point. Open-ended weekly support that nobody reviews is the second most common overspend in this market.

  5. 05

Review the band as the work changes

A student who starts with content drill and moves to Internal Assessment supervision should change band, not just topic. Equally, a student who finishes criterion work and needs paper volume can usually move down. We re-check every four to six weeks and change the arrangement rather than the price.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We tell you when cheaper is correct

Mole drill, quadratic practice and reading support do not need a specialist at AED 200-450 an hour. Saying so costs us revenue on that session and is the only reason to believe anything else on this page. Three of the six main competitor pages in our research publish no price at all.

Every AED figure carries its source

Each band here names the competitor or rate table it came from and the month it was read. Two of the ranking competitors in our research quote US dollars, which is not a currency UAE families transact in, and one publishes prices that contradict its own structured data.

No packages that expire

A Dubai school year contains trips, exam leave, half-terms, Ramadan and travel. Monthly packages turn each disruption into forfeited value, which across a year can exceed the discount. We price by session with a written end date and no notice period, so nothing is lost to a fortnight you did not plan.

One named tutor, not a pool

Continuity is most of what makes tutoring work over months. A tutor who remembers what your child misunderstood three weeks ago is doing something a rotating pool cannot, and large low-cost session counts are usually supported by a pool rather than a person.

Availability disclosed before payment

If no specialist in your subject and slot is free, you get a date rather than a substitute. If the tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, you know before booking. Neither disclosure appears on any competitor page in our research.

No ratings we cannot evidence

We publish no aggregate rating or review count, because we have no audited one. Competitors in our research show conflicting review figures on a single page, and one shows five stars from twenty reviews against a claim of 2,500 students. An unverifiable number is marketing, not information.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Bluewaters Island: your questions answered

What should we expect to pay monthly for IB tutoring from Bluewaters?+

Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A Diploma student with one weekly session in two subjects sits near the top of that range through most of DP2. Market packages seen in October 2026 include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those figures describe the market rather than our prices, and what they cannot tell you is whether the hours will do the job.

Is a tutor at AED 650 an hour ever worth it?+

Occasionally, and for a narrow case. BartyED publishes AED 650, and that band buys very specific expertise at the top of a Higher Level subject. It makes sense for a candidate already performing at a 6 where the remaining gap is specialised, and for prescribed-title interpretation in Theory of Knowledge. It makes no sense for content revision, procedural drill or general support, where a qualified subject tutor at AED 150-300 does the same work. If somebody quotes that rate without asking what the work is, the rate is the product.

Where do families in high-value Dubai communities waste the most money?+

Six places, in rough order of frequency. Premium rates for procedural drill that a budget tutor could supervise. Open-ended weekly arrangements for a six-session problem. Three concurrent subject tutors when component marks would have named one priority. Large holiday intensives that produce a tired January. Heavy spending in the final weeks when the internally assessed twenty per cent is already fixed. And, most costly in a different sense, buying the cheap option for criterion-level work, which wastes the term rather than the money.

Why is an in-home tutor more expensive for a Bluewaters address?+

Because the journey is in the rate. Dubai in-home one-to-one runs roughly AED 180-350 an hour against AED 150-300 for the same tier online, and that AED 50-150 gap is travel time the tutor cannot teach in. Bluewaters sharpens it: one road bridge, the Marina approach, Sheikh Zayed Road and then visitor parking in a residential tower, all at the hours a student is actually free. A tutor teaching two island families in an evening spends a large share of that evening stationary and prices accordingly.

Is the AED 799 monthly package genuinely good value?+

It can be, and three questions decide it. Who teaches the sessions, by name, and is it the same person weekly? Do they teach that subject at that level, or just that subject? And what happens to unused sessions during exam leave, half-term, Ramadan or family travel? A Dubai school year contains several disrupted fortnights, and a package that expires monthly converts each into forfeited value. Eight unfocused hours is also worse value than four aimed at a diagnosed problem, even at a higher hourly rate.

Can a cheaper tutor really handle Diploma-level work?+

For some of it, yes. The budget band from AED 45 an hour buys supervision, repetition and a second pair of eyes, which is genuinely enough for mole drill, quadratic practice, vocabulary work and checking a student's working. What it does not buy is knowledge of how a specific component is marked, which matters for Internal Assessment criteria, Higher Level paper technique and core essays. The split is the useful discipline: pay the specialist band for criterion and mark-scheme work, and the lower band for everything that is really practice.

How many hours does a Diploma student actually need?+

Fewer than most packages assume, and targeted differently. A typical useful allocation across two years is three to five hours making a weak quantitative skill automatic, six to ten hours on Internal Assessment criteria and design, three to five hours on command-term and answer structure, and ten to sixteen hours of timed paper work in the final two terms. That is under forty hours spent where the marks are, against sixty to seventy for an unreviewed weekly arrangement across the same period, and it generally achieves more.

Should we book a tutoring intensive over the winter break?+

Usually not as a full programme. Families book ten to twenty hours across the long break with good intentions and produce a tired January, in a term where mocks are often close. At market rates that is AED 1,500-6,000 for a net negative. One or two targeted sessions on a single identified weakness, with real rest around them, achieves more. The spring break is different: by then content teaching has limited returns and timed paper work has high ones, so a short burst of papers over that break is usually sound.

Does the Dubai school fee freeze change the tutoring calculation?+

It changes the context rather than the arithmetic. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family whose largest education cost is flat, a tutoring decision is a marginal one rather than part of a rising total. It does not make unnecessary tutoring worthwhile, and tutoring is not required for equivalency, university admission or school progression in any case.

Why will you not publish your own hourly price?+

Because the honest answer depends on what the work is, and quoting a single number invites exactly the mismatch this page is about. A student needing mole drill and a student needing criterion-level Internal Assessment supervision should not pay the same rate, and either figure would be wrong for one of them. What we publish instead are the market bands with their sources, so you can see where any quotation sits, and we start with a free trial lesson and a diagnosis before discussing hours at all.

Someone offered a completed Internal Assessment for AED 3,750. Is that an option?+

No, and it is the one purchase on this page that is never worth making at any price. One operator in our competitor research advertises exactly that. Submitting purchased work is academic malpractice under IB rules, the finding goes against the student rather than the seller, and the consequences reach the Diploma itself rather than one subject grade. The legitimate alternative is a specialist who teaches the criteria, questions the research question, and gives feedback on drafts the student wrote, which is a few hours of work rather than a transaction.

Do you send a tutor to our apartment on Bluewaters Island?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE lessons as one-to-one live video, and home visiting is a service we run in India only. On a cost page that is load-bearing rather than incidental: the AED 50-150 hourly travel premium in the Dubai market is the journey, and on an island with one bridge at school-run hours it is a larger premium than most. Independent home tutors do work here, and for a Primary Years child who needs somebody physically present they can genuinely be the better choice.

How do we check a tutoring provider's claims before paying?+

Ask three things and watch what happens. Does the tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and when does it expire? Which specific component will they work on, and can they explain one lost mark from a real script in mark-scheme language? And will they ever recommend fewer hours? Separately, treat any star rating that cannot be traced to real countable reviews as marketing: two competitors in our research publish conflicting review counts on a single page. We publish no aggregate rating because we have none we could evidence.

Is three tutors for three subjects ever the right answer?+

Rarely, and only for a student genuinely weak in all three. The alternative costs roughly a third as much and usually works better. Ask the school for component marks across the subjects. If losses look similar everywhere, the problem is command terms and answer structure, which is one intervention of three to five hours paying in every paper. If one subject is clearly worse, buy a six to eight week block there and reassess. Three concurrent weekly arrangements at AED 150-300 each is a commitment that rarely matches the diagnosis.

What does the specialist band buy that the qualified band does not?+

Mark-scheme fluency and criterion-level judgement. A specialist can tell you which line of a script earned the method mark and which did not, what a particular criterion descriptor rewards in the band above, and what the examiner wants in the opening lines of an extended response. TutorChase publishes AED 270 in that band; Unitors publishes IB from AED 200 in the qualified band. For teaching the course properly the qualified band is sufficient. For internally assessed work, third papers and core essays, the premium is doing real work.

Diagnose first, then choose the band

Almost every tutoring overspend in a community like Bluewaters follows from choosing the rate before understanding the work. A student needing procedural drill is well served from AED 45 an hour; one needing criterion-level Internal Assessment supervision needs AED 200-450 and will waste a term at the lower rate. Send a recent marked script, take a free trial lesson, and get a written answer on which band the work needs and roughly how many hours it should take. Then buy that, with an end date, and nothing else.
