IB Tutor near me in Bluewaters Island

Parents typing "IB tutor near me in Bluewaters Island" are asking a narrower question than the words suggest. They are asking whether anybody reachable from the island actually knows their child's syllabus at their child's level. This page answers that honestly, including where the answer is no. IB Gram teaches Bluewaters students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • We give a date when no specialist is free, rather than a substitute

IB & IGCSE in Bluewaters Island

The question behind the search is about supply, not distance

A parent does not really want a tutor who lives nearby. They want somebody who knows what the mark scheme awards in their child's subject, at their child's level, and who is free at a time their child is awake. Proximity got into the search because that is the word Google understands, and because it is the only one of those three things a map can measure.

Bluewaters Island makes the gap between the question and the search unusually visible. It is a small residential community on reclaimed land off JBR, reached by one road bridge and a pedestrian link, with no school on it. Every child commutes. So there is no local school staff room from which a nearby IB teacher could plausibly emerge, and the tutors a map will return are people who live within a short drive of the bridge rather than people who teach the Diploma.

The honest supply picture across Dubai is worth stating plainly, because nobody in this market does. KHDA figures for 2024-25 record 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. Seven new private schools arrive for 2026-27, three of them IB, adding 16,846 places. The IB is a minority provision in a very large market, and Diploma teaching at Higher Level in a specific subject is a minority within that minority.

Which produces the result this page exists to explain. Standard Level Mathematics is findable almost anywhere. Chemistry at Higher Level with current knowledge of the scientific investigation criteria, available at half past five on a Tuesday, is not, and no amount of local searching changes it. The pool is small because the teaching population is small, not because Bluewaters is awkward.

What we do about that is take geography out of the equation. IB Gram teaches every UAE student one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run in India only. That removes the filter that has nothing to do with the grade and leaves the one that does, which is whether the person knows the component your child is being marked on.

It does not remove scarcity, and we will not pretend otherwise. Some subject and slot combinations are genuinely unavailable for days at a time. This page sets out which ones, what we do instead, and four questions you can use to test any tutor, ours included, in the first twenty minutes of a trial lesson. Reviewed October 2026, with every figure attributed to the source it came from rather than asserted.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Supply differs sharply by programme, and that is the first thing a Bluewaters family should understand before concluding that nobody is available. Primary and Middle Years support is widely available; Diploma Higher Level support is not.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Six transdisciplinary themes, continuous assessment, no external examination. The useful support is number fluency, reading stamina and writing a paragraph that answers the question asked. None of it requires examination expertise, which is why the available pool is wide and a family should not be paying scarcity prices for it.

This is the one stage where proximity genuinely has value, because a young child benefits from somebody physically keeping a hand on the page. Independent local tutors work across the Marina and JBR and can be the right answer for a Bluewaters family with a Year 3 child, which is worth saying on a page that otherwise argues for online delivery.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria scored one to eight and converted to a 1-7 grade. The highest-return work is criterion literacy: reading the published descriptor for the band above and redrafting one piece to meet it. Supply here is reasonable, because the work needs rigour rather than examination experience.

Where MYP supply does tighten is Language Acquisition at the higher phases and the Arts subject groups, both of which have smaller teaching populations in Dubai. For those, a wait of several days is normal and an honest date is more useful than a substitute from a different subject group.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internally assessed component worth roughly twenty per cent and papers with their own marking conventions, which is exactly why generalist teaching does not transfer here.

This is where scarcity bites. The pool of people who teach a given Higher Level subject, know the current internal assessment criteria, and are free in a specific Gulf Standard Time evening slot is small across the whole emirate, let alone within a drive of one bridge. Removing the drive widens it substantially; it does not make it large.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and language development. UAE provision is limited, and where a student takes Diploma courses inside it, those courses are taught and tutored on exactly the same basis.

Because provision is thin, a Bluewaters family considering this route is usually choosing a specific campus rather than a curriculum. For the Diploma courses within it the supply picture is identical to the full Diploma, which means the same honest answer about availability applies.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Supply by subject, which is the information a near-me search cannot give you. These are our honest coverage notes rather than a list of everything we would like to claim.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

The widest pool in the Diploma. Statistics, modelling and calculator fluency, with marks lost for not naming the test run or the model fitted. A match is usually available within one or two days, and this is not a subject where a family should accept a long wait.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Noticeably thinner, because the third paper and the proof content need somebody who teaches at that level rather than somebody comfortable with the material. Two to three days is a normal wait, and the difference in teaching quality between bands is large here.

Physics HL

Higher Level

Thin, particularly with scientific investigation supervision attached. Uncertainty treatment and explain-question structure are the two things that need genuine specialism, and a physics generalist will teach the content competently and miss both.

Chemistry HL

Higher Level

The thinnest of the three sciences at Higher Level with investigation supervision. Mechanism notation and criterion-level feedback are the specialist elements, and three to five days is a realistic wait for a specific evening slot.

Biology HL

Higher Level

Better supplied than chemistry or physics at Higher Level. High content volume and precise terminology demands, with most lost marks sitting in command-term discipline rather than in understanding.

Economics HL

Higher Level

Reasonable supply outside mock season and tight within it, because demand concentrates in the same fortnight across the emirate. Diagram accuracy and the three-commentary portfolio are the two areas worth specialist time.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Reasonable supply. The individual oral on a global issue is where experienced judgement genuinely helps, because a defensible global issue is a choice rather than a preference and students choose badly without guidance.

Computer Science HL

Higher Level

Rare. A small cohort emirate-wide means a small teaching population, and the solution development internal assessment needs somebody who has assessed one. Five to ten days is a realistic wait and we will say so rather than offering a programmer.

Arabic as a first language, Diploma

HL and SL

Rare at Diploma level, as distinct from the mandatory school stream, which is a different syllabus. Supply is limited and honest dates matter more here than anywhere else in our coverage.

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay

Core

Specialist and limited, because prescribed title interpretation and research question narrowing are judgement work. A few hours here are worth more than a term of general writing support, which is the opposite of how families usually buy it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three honest arrangements, including the one where we tell you to wait. Which applies depends on whether a specialist in your subject and slot exists this week.

Immediate match, widely supplied subject

For Standard Level mathematics, biology at either level, English A and most Middle Years subjects, a match is usually available within one or two days. These are not subjects where a family should accept a long wait or a premium rate justified by scarcity, because the scarcity is not real.

  • One named specialist within one to two days for mainstream subjects
  • Free trial lesson in the slot you intend to use weekly
  • Tutor location stated before booking, UAE-based or otherwise
  • One free rematch if the first tutor is not the right fit

Dated wait, thin subject

For Higher Level chemistry or physics with investigation supervision, Computer Science HL, Arabic as a first language at Diploma level, or any subject in a contested early evening slot near mocks, we give a date. Sometimes that date is more than a week away, and a dated wait is more useful than a substitute who teaches something adjacent.

  • A specific date rather than an open-ended promise to look
  • No substitute offered from a different subject or level
  • Interim work suggested where there is something useful to do alone
  • The slot held once the specialist becomes available

Non-UAE specialist, disclosed

For the rarest combinations the available specialist may be based outside the UAE, teaching into Gulf Standard Time. We say so before you book. Two of the competitor pages in our research route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers without disclosing delivery location at all, which is the practice this disclosure exists to avoid.

  • Tutor's base stated plainly before any payment
  • Sessions scheduled to Gulf Standard Time, not the tutor's convenience
  • Familiarity with the UAE school calendar confirmed in advance
  • You may decline and wait for a UAE-based specialist instead

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Bluewaters Island

01

The honest answer about local IB supply

There are IB tutors who could reach Bluewaters Island. There are far fewer who teach the specific subject your child takes at the specific level they take it, and fewer again who are free in the narrow evening window a commuting Diploma student is actually available. The three conditions rarely coincide in one person locally, and that is a structural fact about the teaching population rather than a comment on the island.

The arithmetic runs like this. KHDA recorded 387,441 students across 227 Dubai private schools in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of students against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum. Diploma teachers are therefore a small group to begin with. Divide that group by subject, then by level, then by who is willing and free to teach at half past five after their own school day, and the remainder is small.

Bluewaters sharpens it in one specific way. There is no school on the island, so unlike a community built around a campus there is no local staff room from which a nearby teacher might emerge. The people a map returns as near you are residents of the Marina and JBR who happen to tutor, which is a different population from the people who teach the Diploma in Al Barsha and Emirates Hills.

The useful conclusion is not that Bluewaters families are badly served. It is that the proximity filter is costing them access rather than buying them anything, at Diploma level. Remove it and the pool becomes everybody who teaches that subject at that level and can hold a Gulf Standard Time slot, which is a much better pool and still not an unlimited one.

02

What a near-me search is actually ranking

Search results for a near-me query are ordered by proximity and by whoever has invested most in local listings, reviews and location pages. Neither signal measures subject knowledge. That is not a criticism of the search engine, which is doing what it can with what it can see, but it does mean the top result is answering a different question from the one the parent asked.

The signals that would actually help are all invisible to a map. Which syllabus version the tutor teaches. Which board, where a student sits both IB and Cambridge qualifications. Whether they have supervised an internal assessment against the published criteria. Whether they can explain a lost mark in mark-scheme language. Whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition permit. Whether they are free in the slot your child is awake for.

Review signals deserve particular scepticism in this market. Competitors in our research publish conflicting review counts on the same page, and one shows five stars from twenty reviews beside a claim of 2,500 students. Self-asserted ratings in structured data are against Google's own structured data policy and are a manual action risk, which tells you something about how carefully the claims were made. We publish no aggregate rating, because we have none we could evidence.

So the practical approach is to use the search to generate candidates and then apply your own filters, which the next section sets out. Twenty minutes of a trial lesson is a far better instrument than any ranking, and it is free.

03

Four questions that test any tutor in twenty minutes

  • Does the tutor ask for a recent marked script before teaching anything?
  • Can they explain one lost mark in mark-scheme language rather than subject content?
  • Do they refuse to promise a specific grade when asked directly?
  • Is their answer on internal assessment strictly feedback on the student's own work?
  • Do they know which syllabus version your child's school is currently teaching?

These are the questions we would want a parent to ask us, and they work on anybody. They take twenty minutes of a trial lesson and they are more discriminating than any credential list, because they test current working knowledge rather than history.

First, ask whether they want to see a recent marked script before teaching anything. A specialist does, because the diagnosis is in what the student actually wrote. Somebody working from a textbook asks which topic to cover, which sounds accommodating and tells you they intend to deliver content rather than fix a specific problem.

Second, ask them to explain one lost mark from that script in mark-scheme language. The answer should name marks and criteria: this line earns the method mark and this one does not, the band descriptor needs a judgement here, that answer describes where the command term said explain. An answer given purely in subject content, however accurate, means they are teaching the subject rather than the assessment.

Third, ask directly whether they can get your child from a 4 to a 7 by the May session. The correct answer declines to promise a grade and instead names what is achievable and what is not. Anybody who promises a specific score is either misunderstanding how the Diploma is marked or betting your money on it, and both are disqualifying. Fourth, ask what they would do with a draft internal assessment. The only acceptable answer is feedback against criteria on work the student wrote.

04

What we do when the answer is no

No competitor page in our research discloses a coverage limit. Several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number. We publish ours, because a parent who is told the truth about a ten-day wait can plan around it, and a parent given a substitute loses the term and only finds out in March.

When no specialist in your subject, level and slot is free, you get a date. Not a promise to look, a date. If that date is nine days away we say nine days, and we suggest what is worth doing in the meantime where there is something genuinely useful a student can do alone, which is often past-paper reading rather than past-paper answering.

We do not substitute across subjects or levels. A biology specialist in front of a chemistry student at Higher Level will teach competent science and miss the mechanism notation that the mark scheme is awarding. A Standard Level teacher covering Higher Level will teach the overlapping content well and not know what the third paper wants. Both arrangements feel like progress for about a month.

Where the only available specialist is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, we say so before you book and you may decline and wait. The table below is our honest coverage picture for this cluster, and it is a snapshot rather than a guarantee: mock season tightens everything, and early evening slots are always the first to go.

05

Where proximity does earn its place

  • Physical presence genuinely helps younger children and some support needs
  • An excellent Primary Years tutor is not thereby a Higher Level subject specialist
  • In-home runs AED 180-500 against AED 150-300 online for the same tier
  • The travel premium is defensible for presence and hard to justify for paper technique
  • We do not offer UAE home visits, so we will point you elsewhere where it fits

This page argues against the proximity filter at Diploma level, so it should be equally clear about where proximity genuinely helps. For a Primary Years child, having an adult physically in the room is worth something that a screen does not replicate: a hand kept on the page, an immediate redirection when attention drifts, a visible reaction that tells a seven-year-old somebody is paying attention.

The same applies to a student with particular support needs where physical presence materially changes how a session goes, and to the youngest end of the Middle Years where self-management is still developing. In those cases, an independent local tutor working across the Marina and JBR can be the right choice for a Bluewaters family, and we will say so rather than arguing for a format that does not suit the child.

What proximity does not buy, at any age, is subject expertise. A local tutor who is excellent with a Year 4 reader is not thereby a Chemistry HL specialist, and the mistake families make is extending a good experience at one stage into a booking at another. The two jobs are genuinely different jobs.

There is also a cost dimension. In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 table, rising to AED 500 at specialist levels, against roughly AED 150-300 for the same tier online. That AED 50-150 travel premium is reasonable to pay for a young child who needs presence. It is harder to justify for a sixteen-year-old working on Paper 3 technique, where it buys a narrower choice of teacher.

06

What it costs, and where scarcity should not be priced

  • Genuine scarcity exists in Computer Science HL and Diploma Arabic, not in SL mathematics
  • IB specialist band: roughly AED 200-450 an hour, with TutorChase publishing AED 270
  • Bestimate monthly estimates: AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid, AED 1,000-2,000+ specialist
  • Ask any provider which part of your purchase requires the specialist band
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026

Scarcity is a real feature of Higher Level Diploma supply, and it is also a convenient story for charging more. The distinction worth holding is that scarcity in Computer Science HL is genuine, while scarcity in Standard Level mathematics is not, and a rate justified by the second is a rate justified by nothing.

The Dubai bands, read in October 2026 from competitor pages and the Bestimate 2026 rate table. Budget or university-student tutors at AED 45-150, with EdFlik listing AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Qualified subject tutors online at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists at AED 200-450, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium or examiner-led from AED 500-650, with BartyED at AED 650.

The specialist band is doing real work for internally assessed components, third papers and core essays, where criterion and mark-scheme knowledge changes the outcome. It is not doing real work for content revision in a widely taught subject, and if a provider cannot explain which of those your purchase is, that is informative. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Set those hourly bands against the bill they sit beside rather than against each other, because a Bluewaters family is choosing between Diploma tuition and everything else the school year already claims. The larger number is now fixed: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A flat fee bill means the tuition decision is made against a known total for the first time in several years, which argues for buying fewer hours at the specialist band rather than more hours at the cheap one. Everything quoted above is a market figure read from other people's published pages, not an IB Gram price. We publish no price list on these pages, and the first lesson is a free trial.

07

The claims to check before you believe anybody

  • No regulator accredits tutoring platforms; ask which permit an approval claim refers to
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit covers institutes with premises, which we do not have
  • Examiner status should be evidenced and never implies access to marking or boundaries
  • Any statistic without a sample size, date and method is unverifiable
  • Purchased assessed work is malpractice and the finding falls on the student

This market has a credential problem, and a parent asking an honest question deserves to know what to discount. The single most dangerous phrase available to pages like this one is approval by a regulator. KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge and Pearson do not accredit tutoring platforms, and a KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with physical premises in Dubai.

IB Gram does not hold one. We are not IB authorised, KHDA approved, ADEK approved, Cambridge accredited or Pearson approved, and we have no UAE office. What we can do is explain what each body governs and link its own page, which is a different and smaller claim. Ask any provider describing itself as approved exactly which permit it means, and ask for the number.

Second, examiner status. Several pages in this market describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners. Current examiner status is verifiable and should be evidenced on request, and it should never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content, because no such access exists. Third, statistics: no figure should appear without a sample size, a date and a method, and claims like a 96 per cent satisfaction rate or a median tutor score are unverifiable by construction.

Fourth, assessed work. One operator in our competitor research sells completed internal assessments at AED 3,750. A tutor teaches criteria, questions method and gives feedback on the student's own drafts; a tutor never writes, rewrites or completes assessed work or generates data. The consequence of crossing that line is an academic malpractice finding carried by the student.

08

Starting, with the availability question answered first

  • Availability answered before any discussion of hours or rates
  • One named tutor with their background and base, not a shortlist
  • Free trial lesson in the slot you intend to use weekly
  • A date rather than a substitute when nobody suitable is free
  • No UAE home visits; home tutoring is an India-only service for us

Send the subject, the level, the school and the slot you need, plus a recent marked script if you have one. We will tell you within a day whether a specialist in that exact combination is free, and if not, when. That order matters: the availability answer should come before any discussion of hours or rates, because a plan built around a tutor who does not exist this month is not a plan.

If a match exists, you get one named tutor with their background and where they are based, and a free trial lesson in the slot you intend to use weekly. The trial is a real teaching hour on the current sticking point rather than a consultation, with a short written note afterwards. No card is held, nothing renews, and if the match is wrong we rematch once at no charge.

If no match exists, you get a date and, where there is something genuinely useful, a suggestion for the interim. We will also tell you if the honest answer is that your problem does not need us: a student who needs reading practice at Primary Years level, or whose real issue is a conversation with the school about Language Acquisition phase placement, should not be buying Diploma specialist hours.

Bluewaters sessions usually land at 5:30pm Gulf Standard Time or later on weekdays, with weekend mornings better for anything demanding. During Ramadan, post-Iftar slots are a normal request and the slot is held. What we will not do, on the island or anywhere in the UAE, is send a tutor to your address; that service runs in India only.

Where we tutor

What is actually within reach of the island

The communities a near-me search will draw from, noted for what each contributes to the supply question. Density of population is not density of Diploma teachers, which is the distinction that matters.

Bluewaters Island

No school, a small resident population and one road bridge. Nothing about the island generates local teaching supply, which is why a near-me search here returns people who live nearby rather than people who teach the Diploma.

Dubai Marina

Very high residential density immediately across the bridge, which inflates what a map returns. A large number of residents is not a large number of IB teachers, and the two are routinely confused by search results.

JBR

The adjoining beachfront strip. Convenient in distance and slow between five and seven, which is the only window a Diploma student is free, so convenience here is more apparent than real.

JLT

Across Sheikh Zayed Road with good metro and tram access, and genuinely where more tutors live than on the island side. Relevant to in-home arrangements, irrelevant to online ones.

Al Sufouh

Several established campuses sit here, so this is where teaching supply actually originates in this part of Dubai. A teacher finishing at four is not at a Bluewaters address much before five.

Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The main campus ring, including several IB Diploma providers. The same arithmetic applies with more distance: twenty to thirty-five minutes at the end of the school day, before parking.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Villa communities with established IB campuses, twenty-five to forty minutes from the island. Where a number of Bluewaters Diploma students study, and too far for an evening in-home arrangement to be reliable.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Ask the availability question first

Send the subject, the level and the slot you need before anything else. We answer within a day, with a date if the answer is not yet. Discussing hours and rates before knowing whether the specialist exists this month is how families end up with a substitute they did not knowingly accept.

  2. 02

    Send a recent marked script

Not a report card. A marked paper or a returned internal assessment draft shows whether the problem is content, command terms, notation or pacing, and those need different work. It also lets you apply the second of the four test questions to whoever you speak to, ours included.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson in the real slot

We run the trial at the time we intend the weekly session to be, so you find out whether a Bluewaters evening slot actually works before committing. A real teaching hour on the current sticking point, a short written note afterwards, no card held and nothing renewing.

  4. 04

    Use the twenty-minute test

Does the tutor ask for the script? Can they explain a lost mark in mark-scheme language? Do they refuse to promise a grade? Is their internal assessment answer strictly feedback on the student's own work? Four questions, twenty minutes, more discriminating than any credential list.

  5. 05

Accept a dated wait over a substitute

For Computer Science HL, Chemistry HL with investigation supervision or Diploma Arabic, a wait of five to ten days is normal. Taking a generalist instead feels like progress for a month and costs the term. We give the date and hold the slot once the specialist is free.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the coverage limit

No competitor page in our research discloses one, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number. A parent told the truth about a ten-day wait can plan around it; a parent given a substitute loses the term and discovers it in March.

If the available specialist is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, you know before paying and may decline. Two ranking competitors in our research route UAE parents to Indian numbers without stating delivery location anywhere on the page.

No substitution across subject or level

A biology specialist teaching Chemistry HL will deliver competent science and miss the mechanism notation the mark scheme awards. A Standard Level teacher covering Higher Level will not know what the third paper wants. Both arrangements look like progress for about a month.

Four questions we invite you to use on us

Ask for the marked script, ask for a lost mark in mark-scheme language, ask us to promise a grade and watch us decline, and ask what we would do with a draft internal assessment. A page that hands you the test it expects to pass is making a checkable claim.

No approval claims and no ratings

We are not IB authorised, KHDA approved, ADEK approved or Cambridge accredited, hold no KHDA Educational Services Permit and have no UAE office. We publish no aggregate rating because we have none we could evidence. Competitors in this market publish conflicting review counts on a single page.

We will tell you not to buy

A Primary Years reading problem, or a Language Acquisition phase placement issue that needs a conversation with the school, should not be sold Diploma specialist hours. Pointing a family elsewhere costs us the booking and is the only reason the rest of this page is worth reading.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Bluewaters Island: your questions answered

Is there genuinely an IB tutor near Bluewaters who knows my child's syllabus?+

For some subjects yes, for others honestly no. There is no school on the island, so there is no local staff room producing nearby IB teachers, and the people a map returns are Marina and JBR residents who tutor rather than Diploma teachers. Standard Level mathematics, biology and English A are findable. Chemistry at Higher Level with current investigation criteria knowledge, free at half past five on a Tuesday, usually is not within a drive. Removing the drive widens the pool substantially; it does not make it unlimited.

Why is the IB teaching pool in Dubai smaller than it looks?+

Because the IB is a minority provision in a very large market. KHDA recorded 387,441 students across 227 Dubai private schools in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent of students against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum. Diploma teachers are a small group to begin with, and dividing them by subject, then by level, then by who is free after their own school day leaves very few in any one combination. Three of Dubai's seven new schools for 2026-27 are IB, which helps supply over years rather than this term.

What does a near-me search actually measure?+

Proximity, and how much a provider has invested in local listings, reviews and location pages. Neither measures subject knowledge, the level taught, internal assessment experience, mark-scheme fluency or availability in your slot, which are the five things that affect the outcome. Review signals deserve particular scepticism here: competitors in our research publish conflicting review counts on the same page, and one shows five stars from twenty reviews beside a claim of 2,500 students. Use the search to generate candidates and then apply your own filters.

How can I test whether a tutor really knows the assessment?+

Four questions, twenty minutes. Does the tutor ask to see a recent marked script before teaching anything? Can they explain one lost mark from it in mark-scheme language, naming which line earns the method mark? Do they decline when you ask them to promise a grade? And what would they do with a draft internal assessment, where the only acceptable answer is feedback against criteria on work the student wrote? A specialist passes all four. Somebody teaching from a textbook sounds competent on content and fails the second.

What do you do if nobody is free in my child's subject?+

We give a date rather than a substitute, and we say if that date is nine or ten days away. For Computer Science HL, Diploma Arabic as a first language, or Chemistry HL with investigation supervision in a contested early evening slot, that wait is normal. We do not substitute across subjects or levels, because a biology specialist in front of a Higher Level chemistry student will teach competent science and miss the mechanism notation the mark scheme awards. Where the only specialist is based outside the UAE, we say so before you book.

Which IB subjects are hardest to find a tutor for?+

In our coverage, Computer Science at Higher Level and Arabic as a first language at Diploma level are the thinnest, with five to ten days a realistic wait, because the cohorts are small emirate-wide and so are the teaching populations. Chemistry HL with scientific investigation supervision is next, at three to five days. Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay support is specialist and limited, though a few hours there are worth more than a term of general writing help. Standard Level mathematics and biology are widely available within a day or two.

Should I just hire the nearest tutor for my Year 3 child?+

Quite possibly, and this is where proximity earns its place. A young child benefits from an adult physically in the room: a hand kept on the page, immediate redirection when attention drifts, a visible reaction that tells them somebody is paying attention. Independent local tutors work across the Marina and JBR and can be the right choice. We do not offer UAE home visits, so we will point you that way rather than arguing for a format that does not suit a seven-year-old needing reading practice.

Is a premium rate justified by how rare IB tutors are?+

Sometimes, and the test is whether the scarcity is real for your specific subject. Computer Science HL is genuinely scarce. Standard Level mathematics is not, and a rate justified by scarcity there is justified by nothing. Separately, the specialist band of AED 200-450 does real work for internally assessed components, third papers and core essays where criterion knowledge changes the outcome, and does not for content revision in a widely taught subject. Ask any provider which of those your purchase is, and judge the answer.

How do I check whether a provider's approval claims are real?+

Ask which permit they mean, and ask for the number. KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge and Pearson do not accredit tutoring platforms. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with physical premises in Dubai. IB Gram does not hold one, is not IB authorised or regulator approved, and has no UAE office. For individual tutors the relevant document is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free, valid two years, and something you can simply ask about.

Do tutors need a permit to teach my child privately in Dubai?+

Yes. Individuals offering private lessons in the UAE need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time via its app, website or e-services. u.ae states that tutoring without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

Can a tutor from my child's own school tutor them privately?+

Not where the student is enrolled at that school, in Abu Dhabi at least, and it is poor practice everywhere. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat the ADEK position as press-reported and verify against the current policy document. In any event, no provider should be marketing a child's own teacher privately.

Does your tutor come to our apartment on Bluewaters Island?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE lessons as one-to-one live video, and home visiting is a service we run in India only. On this page that is the whole argument rather than a caveat: the proximity filter removes most of the people who could actually teach a Higher Level subject properly, and the published Dubai travel premium of AED 50-150 an hour is what you pay for that narrower choice. Independent home tutors do work here and are the right answer for some younger children.

What if the only available specialist is outside the UAE?+

We tell you before you book, and you may decline and wait for a UAE-based specialist instead. Where it happens, sessions are scheduled to Gulf Standard Time rather than the tutor's convenience, and we confirm familiarity with the UAE school calendar in advance. This disclosure exists because two ranking competitors in our research route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers without stating delivery location anywhere on the page, which is a trust failure a parent should not have to discover after paying.

Can a tutor help with my son's Extended Essay or is that off limits?+

A tutor can help, within clear limits, and the early hours are the valuable ones. Narrowing the research question in the first weeks is where external support has the greatest effect per hour, because an unanswerable question wastes months. A tutor may also teach the criteria, discuss method and sources, and give feedback on drafts your son wrote. A tutor may not write any part, supply text, rewrite a paragraph to final form or choose the topic. One operator in our research sells completed assessed work; the malpractice finding falls on the student.

When do UAE IB students sit exams, and does that change availability?+

UAE IB schools sit the May session. We do not publish specific IB session or results dates because the IB's own site blocks automated verification and a date a parent plans around has to be right, so confirm windows with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. Availability does tighten predictably: early evening slots across the emirate fill in the weeks around mocks in the winter term and again before the May session, so a family that books in the autumn has a genuinely wider choice than one booking in March.

Ask about availability before you ask about anything else

The question behind a near-me search is whether somebody who knows your child's syllabus at their level is free when your child is awake. Distance answers none of that. Send the subject, the level and the slot, get a straight answer or a date, and then use the four questions on whoever you end up speaking to: ask for the marked script, ask for a lost mark in mark-scheme language, ask them to promise a grade and watch them decline, and ask what they would do with a draft internal assessment.
