IB DP Spanish B Home Tutor in Dubai

Parents searching for an IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Dubai are usually trying to price one decision: what does a competent Group 2 specialist cost per hour, and what changes that number. This page publishes the AED bands the Dubai market actually quotes, the variables that move them, and the Spanish B assessment weightings you are paying to improve. IB Gram delivers the teaching one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time.

Pricing a Spanish B tutor in Dubai without guessing

A Dubai parent who asks three providers what Spanish B tuition costs will get three answers that differ by a factor of ten, and none of them will explain why. The cheapest quote comes from a platform selling conversation practice by the hour to a university student in another time zone. The dearest comes from a named tutor with a waiting list and a rate card set by scarcity. Both are selling something described as Spanish tutoring. Neither is the same product.

The useful question is not the hourly rate but the rate per unit of assessment improved. Spanish B is marked across four things: a written task, a listening paper, a reading paper, and an oral. Each has its own criteria, its own failure modes, and its own training requirement. An hour of unstructured conversation moves the oral a little and the reading paper almost not at all. An hour spent marking a student's Paper 1 task against the criteria and rewriting the weak paragraph moves a specific band descriptor. The second hour is worth paying more for, and the gap between those two hours is where most of the price variation in this market actually lives.

Dubai's school market gives this some context. KHDA counted 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for roughly seven in every hundred enrolled children. That is a large absolute number of DP candidates and a small proportion of the city, which is exactly why Group 2 language specialists are thin on the ground here. There are a lot of Maths tutors in Dubai. There are very few people who can mark a Spanish B HL Paper 1 against the current band descriptors and say which sentence cost the mark.

Travel is the other half of the arithmetic. The phrase in the search box is home tutor, and in this city that phrase carries a real cost: a tutor crossing from Al Barsha to Dubai Marina at 4pm on a weekday is paid for the hour and, in practice, for the hour spent getting there and back. The market prices that in, which is why in-home bands sit above online bands for the same qualification. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in Dubai; that service exists only in India. What we do instead is use the saved travel hour to widen the pool, so a Spanish B HL student is matched to someone who teaches the subject rather than to whoever is a twenty-minute drive away.

Everything below is written to be checked. The AED bands are what the Dubai market publishes, read in October 2026 and labelled by provider model rather than brand. The assessment weightings come from the current Language B guide and should be confirmed against the copy your child's school issues. Where a figure cannot be sourced, this page says so and leaves it out, which is why you will not find an IB exam date or a pass-rate statistic anywhere on it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Spanish at a Dubai IB school is not one course but a staircase, and the price of help changes with the step. These are the three stages where families most often ask for a Spanish specialist, and what each stage is actually assessing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Spanish B sits in Group 2, language acquisition, and runs at Standard or Higher Level across two years. The assessment is split between a written task, a listening paper, a reading paper and an Individual Oral, and every one of them is anchored to the five prescribed themes. HL adds two literary works in Spanish and a longer written response. This is the level where a generalist conversation tutor stops being enough, because the marks now depend on criterion-matched performance under time pressure rather than on fluency alone.

Dubai DP candidates typically meet Spanish B after an MYP language acquisition phase or after moving from a British school where Spanish was a two-period-a-week GCSE option. The gap between those starting points is wide, and a tutor's first job in this city is usually diagnostic: establishing whether the student is short of vocabulary, short of grammar, or simply short of exam technique.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11 · Language acquisition phases 1-6

Middle Years Programme

MYP Spanish is organised into phases rather than year groups, and the phase a student reaches by MYP5 largely decides whether Spanish B or Spanish ab initio is the sensible DP choice. Assessment runs on four criteria covering comprehension of spoken and visual text, comprehension of written text, communication in response to both, and the use of language in oral and written form. A student stuck in an early phase at 15 is the single most common reason a Dubai family starts looking for Spanish help.

Several Dubai IB continuum schools run Spanish from Year 7 with one or two lessons a week, which is enough to build recognition and not enough to build production. Families who see a phase 3 report in MYP5 and a Spanish B SL offer in DP1 are usually looking at a vocabulary debt that takes a term of structured work to clear, not a term of conversation.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

PYP additional language teaching gives a Dubai child early Spanish through transdisciplinary units rather than through formal grammar. There is no external assessment, so nothing here is examinable, but the phonics and the listening habit formed in these years is what later separates a comfortable Spanish B student from a struggling one. Work at this stage is about exposure and confidence, and it is the cheapest Spanish support a family will ever buy.

Dubai primary timetables are crowded with the KHDA mandatory subjects alongside the licensed curriculum, so additional-language minutes are limited. Parents who want their child to reach DP Spanish B comfortably tend to add a short weekly session from Year 4 rather than a crash programme in Year 10, and the total spend over those years is lower.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Group 2 is the part of the Diploma where Dubai families most often discover their child is in the wrong course. These are the Spanish routes and the neighbouring language options, with what each one actually demands and roughly where it sits in the market.

Spanish B Higher Level

HL only

Two literary works in Spanish, a longer Paper 1 response, and an Individual Oral built on a literary extract rather than a photograph. HL is where the price gap opens: the pool of tutors who can discuss a Spanish novel and mark against the band descriptors is far smaller than the pool who can run a conversation class, and specialist bands of AED 200-450 reflect that.

Spanish B Standard Level

SL only

Same four assessment components, no literary works, shorter written task, and an oral built on a visual stimulus linked to one of the five themes. SL is the most commonly tutored Group 2 course in Dubai and the one where a qualified online teacher in the AED 150-300 band is usually the right purchase rather than a premium specialist.

Spanish ab initio

SL only

The beginner route, restricted to students with little or no prior exposure to Spanish, and available at Standard Level only. Families sometimes ask to move a struggling Spanish B student across. That is a decision for the school's DP coordinator against the eligibility rules, not a tutoring choice, and it has consequences for university language prerequisites.

Spanish A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Group 1 course for students whose Spanish is already a first language. It is a literature and textual analysis course, not a language-learning one, and it is the only Spanish route that contributes towards the bilingual diploma. Tutoring here is closer to English Literature support in character and is priced with Group 1 subjects rather than Group 2.

French B

HL and SL

Structurally identical to Spanish B, same four components, same five themes, and the most widely taught Group 2 language in Dubai IB schools. Supply is better than for Spanish, which keeps French B quotes at the lower end of the qualified-teacher band and makes it a useful benchmark when you are judging whether a Spanish quote is reasonable.

German B

HL and SL

Narrower supply again, and a grammar load that behaves differently from Spanish: case endings and word order cost marks in writing where Spanish students lose them on tense and subjunctive. Dubai families with a German school background often run German B alongside Spanish ab initio, and the combined timetable needs planning rather than two separate bookings.

Mandarin B

HL and SL

The character workload makes this the most front-loaded Group 2 course, and the one where weekly contact matters more than session length. Rates sit at the top of the qualified band in Dubai because the teaching pool is small and much of it is outside the Gulf time zone, which is also why scheduling tends to decide the match.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Distinct from the KHDA mandatory Arabic that every Dubai private school must teach, and examined as a Group 2 acquisition course with the same component structure as Spanish B. Students carrying both the school's mandatory Arabic stream and a Group 2 language have a heavier language week than their timetable suggests.

Hindi B

HL and SL

Common in Dubai's Indian-curriculum IB schools, with a script demand that sits outside anything a Spanish student faces. Where a family runs Spanish B for one child and Hindi B for another, two separate specialists are usually the honest answer rather than one tutor stretched across both.

Extended Essay in Spanish B

Category 2 · DP core

A 4,000-word essay written in Spanish about the culture of a Spanish-speaking region. It is supervised inside the school, and a tutor's role is strictly process coaching: question framing, source evaluation and feedback on the student's own drafts. Blocks of EE support are usually bought by the hour in short bursts around the school's internal deadlines.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every Spanish B request that reaches us from Dubai, and they differ in price mainly because they differ in how many marked pieces of work come out of each hour.

Weekly one-to-one, criterion-marked

A fixed slot each week with a Group 2 teacher, run over live video with a shared screen for the text being worked on. The student produces a Paper 1 task or a reading response between sessions; it comes back annotated against the band descriptors, and the next session starts from the weakest descriptor rather than from the next textbook chapter.

  • 60 or 90 minutes, Gulf Standard Time, same slot each week
  • One written piece marked against the criteria per fortnight
  • Running vocabulary and error log the parent can read
  • Session notes sent the same evening

Individual Oral rehearsal block

A short, intensive run of sessions bought in a block rather than weekly, aimed only at the oral component. The work is recorded practice against unseen stimuli, timing discipline, and the follow-up discussion that most students under-prepare. Blocks are the cheaper way to buy oral readiness because they stop when the student is ready rather than running all year.

  • Four to six sessions inside a three-week window
  • Unseen visual stimuli at SL, literary extracts at HL
  • Recorded, replayed and compared with the criteria
  • No coaching on content the student has not studied

Paper 2 listening clinic

Listening is the component Dubai students most often write off as untrainable, and it is the one where structured work pays fastest. A clinic hour is spent on audio under exam timing, on the gap between hearing a word and recording it accurately, and on the question types that reward prediction. It is sold as a short course rather than ongoing tuition.

  • Timed audio sets with no replays beyond the exam allowance
  • Transcript review after, not during, the attempt
  • Accent variation across Spanish-speaking regions
  • Spelling accuracy in recorded answers

What a Spanish B tutor in Dubai actually costs per hour

  • Judge a quote against the band for that provider model, not against the cheapest number you have seen
  • Ask what comes back marked, and against which criteria
  • Ask whether the rate is per 60-minute hour or per 45-minute lesson
  • Ask whether the quoted figure includes VAT, and get the answer in writing

A qualified language teacher working online with a Dubai family quotes between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour in this market. An in-home one-to-one visit, with travel priced into the rate, runs from about AED 180 to AED 500. An IB DP subject specialist who can mark against the band descriptors sits between AED 200 and AED 450 and upwards. Those are the three bands that matter for Spanish B, and the table below sets them beside the cheaper and dearer ends of the market so the whole range is visible at once.

Every figure in that table is a market band read in October 2026 from published rate cards and provider pages, labelled by provider model rather than by brand. None of them is an IB Gram price. We do not publish an hourly card on these pages because the honest answer depends on level, component and frequency, and a single number would be wrong for most of the families reading it. What the bands are for is judging whether a quote you have been given is normal, high or implausibly low.

The implausibly low end deserves a sentence of its own. Rates starting near AED 45 an hour exist in Dubai and buy real conversation practice, often from a university student. For a DP2 candidate six months from the May session, that purchase will raise spoken confidence and leave the reading paper exactly where it was, because nobody in that transaction has read the band descriptors. For an MYP3 student building vocabulary, the same purchase can be entirely sensible. The rate is not the problem; the mismatch between the rate and the job is.

Six variables that move a Spanish B quote in Dubai

The spread between AED 150 and AED 450 for what sounds like the same hour is not arbitrary. Six variables account for most of it, and a parent who knows them can usually move a quote without arguing about the rate. Level is the largest: Higher Level carries two literary works and a longer written response, so the tutor pool shrinks and the price rises with the scarcity rather than with the difficulty.

Timing is the second. A Spanish B specialist booked in September has a timetable with gaps in it. The same specialist in late January, with a DP2 cohort across three Dubai schools already in their diary, is allocating a scarce slot and prices accordingly. Families who book language support early do not get a discount so much as avoid a surcharge, and they also get the slot that fits the school run rather than the one left over.

The remaining four are session length, bundling, the native-speaker request and component scope. Ninety minutes is not 1.5 times the cost of sixty in most quotes, because the fixed preparation and marking time is spread over a longer lesson. Two children in the same house can often share a tutor's preparation if they are at the same level. A request for a native speaker narrows the pool before quality is even discussed, and narrowing a pool raises a price. Asking for everything, every week, costs more than asking for the oral in a block and the listening in a clinic.

Online one-to-one against an in-home Spanish tutor in Dubai

This is the comparison the search term is really about, so it deserves a straight answer. IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Spanish B teaching for Dubai families runs one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the text on a shared screen. That is a real constraint and this page is not going to pretend otherwise, so here is the case on its merits.

The merits are mostly about who you can reach. A Dubai family hiring within driving distance is choosing from the Spanish teachers who happen to live near them and have a free weekday evening. A family hiring online is choosing from the Spanish B teachers who are free at that hour anywhere in a compatible time zone. For a subject taught to small cohorts in a minority of the city's schools, that difference is not marginal: it is frequently the difference between a Group 2 specialist and a general Spanish speaker.

There are things the in-room format does better, and the honest list is short. A reluctant twelve-year-old is easier to hold in a chair when an adult is physically present. A student with no quiet space at home may concentrate better with a tutor sitting opposite than with a laptop in a shared living room. Handwriting under exam conditions is simpler to supervise in person. For a sixteen-to-nineteen-year-old working on Spanish B, none of those usually outweighs having the right teacher, which is why the table below compares the formats on the dimensions that actually change a grade.

What you are buying: the Spanish B assessment weightings

Before agreeing any rate, it is worth knowing what the money is pointed at. Spanish B is assessed through three external components and one internal one. Paper 1 is a single written task chosen from three options, responding to a stimulus, and it carries a quarter of the grade. Paper 2 combines a listening section and a reading section and carries half. The Individual Oral, conducted and recorded inside the school, carries the remaining quarter.

The weightings are identical at Standard and Higher Level; what changes is the demand inside each component. HL writing asks for a substantially longer response, HL reading uses denser texts, and the HL Individual Oral is built on an extract from one of the two literary works studied rather than on a visual stimulus. That literary requirement is the single clearest reason HL quotes run above SL quotes in Dubai, because a tutor who has never taught a Spanish novel cannot prepare a student for that conversation.

Read the table as a spending guide. Half the grade sits in Paper 2, which is the component Dubai families least often buy help for, and a quarter sits in an oral that most students prepare for in the fortnight before it happens. If a budget only stretches to one component, the arithmetic says listening and reading, not conversation. Confirm every detail here against the current subject guide your school issues, and check component timings with the DP coordinator before you plan around them.

05

Costing two Diploma years rather than the next lesson

  • Decide the two-year hour budget before the first lesson, then allocate it by component
  • Put the heavier spend in DP2, not DP1, unless the student is behind on vocabulary
  • Buy the Individual Oral as a block, not as a year of weekly conversation
  • Review the plan after the DP1 end-of-year report, when the real gaps are visible

Families almost always price Spanish B by the hour and then spend across two years, which produces an unpleasant surprise somewhere around February of DP2. The sensible unit is the course, not the lesson. A typical pattern that works is light in DP1, heavy around the internal deadlines, and concentrated in the eight weeks before the May session, with the total hours front-loaded towards skills and back-loaded towards timing.

Set against Dubai school fees, the numbers look different again. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. A frozen fee line and an unfrozen tutoring line is the trap: families who budget tuition annually alongside fees tend to overspend less than families who approve each block as it arises.

A worked plan helps. Thirty hours across DP1, spread as a fortnightly session with written work in between, builds the vocabulary and the writing habit at the lower end of the specialist band. Twenty-five hours across DP2, weighted towards the oral block and the listening clinic, handles the components that actually carry the grade. That is fifty-five hours over two years rather than ninety, and the saving comes from scoping rather than from negotiating the rate down. Where a family cannot fund that, the honest advice is fewer hours on the heaviest components rather than cheaper hours on everything.

06

Where Spanish B marks leak, and what each leak costs in hours

  • Register slips: two to three sessions with marked writing between them
  • Paper 1 text-type conventions: eight to ten hours across a term
  • Subjunctive and tense control: continuous low-level work, not a crash block
  • Individual Oral discussion: three recorded rehearsals, late in the course
  • Listening accuracy: a short clinic beats a year of incidental exposure

Marks in Spanish B do not leak evenly. The pattern across Dubai cohorts is consistent enough to predict: register, text type, tense control, and the second half of the Individual Oral. Register means the slip between formal and informal address inside one piece of writing, which reads to an examiner as a control problem rather than a slip. It is cheap to fix, usually two or three sessions with marked work in between, because the student almost always knows the forms and is simply not monitoring them.

Text type is dearer. Paper 1 offers a choice of task, and each option carries conventions: a blog is not a formal letter, and an article is not a speech. Students who have practised writing in Spanish without practising the conventions lose marks they never see, because the language is fine and the format is wrong. Clearing that reliably takes a term of fortnightly marked tasks, which is around eight to ten hours of tutor time including the marking.

Tense and mood control, particularly the subjunctive, is the long one. It cannot be fixed in a block before the exam, and any tutor who says otherwise is selling. The honest costing is a little work every week for two or three terms, embedded in writing the student is doing anyway, rather than a dedicated grammar course. The oral's second half is the opposite: a short, targeted intervention. Most students prepare the presentation and under-prepare the discussion that follows it, and three rehearsals with recordings usually moves that further than anything else per hour spent.

07

Who may legally take your money for private Spanish lessons in the UAE

This is a question Dubai parents ask less often than they should. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, through its smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted on this page; a figure circulating online could not be verified against a government source and has been left out. If a provider quotes you a penalty figure as a scare tactic, that alone tells you something about the provider.

Two further points matter in practice. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested ahead of expiry. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the permit's code of conduct pointing the same way. Nobody should be marketing your child's own class teacher to you privately. IB Gram holds no regulator permit of any kind and does not describe itself as licensed, endorsed or in partnership with KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board.

08

What a Spanish B tutor may and may not touch

  • Allowed: criteria explained, drafts read and questioned, practice against unseen stimuli
  • Allowed: a model text written by the tutor on a different topic entirely
  • Not allowed: a script for the Individual Oral, or a paragraph written into the student's draft
  • Not allowed: reproduced IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes passed around as files

Group 2 has fewer coursework pitfalls than a science subject with an Internal Assessment, but it has two real ones: the Individual Oral and, where a student chooses it, an Extended Essay written in Spanish. Both are assessed as the student's own work, and both attract offers from providers who should know better. The boundary is simple to state and worth stating plainly, because this part of the Dubai market contains people selling finished coursework.

A tutor may teach the language, explain the criteria, run practice against unseen stimuli, read a draft and say where it is weak, question the argument, point to a source the student has not considered, and model a text type with a different example. A tutor may not produce the finished piece, rewrite a paragraph into the student's draft, supply a script for the oral, or prepare answers to a stimulus the student will meet for the first time in the assessment room. The second list is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the student, not the tutor.

There is one more boundary that is specific to languages. Nobody should be offering to supply recordings of the actual stimuli, extracts from an unreleased paper, or the school's chosen literary works in a reproduced form. Official subject guides, past papers and mark schemes belong to the IB and are not ours to distribute; reference them, read them through the school, and link to ibo.org for the current documents rather than accepting a folder of files from a tutor.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Where you live in Dubai changes an in-home Spanish quote and does not change an online one. These are the areas families contact us from most, with the travel reality that the market prices into a home visit.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Apartment living with no spare study room, and a 4pm school run that collides with Sheikh Zayed Road traffic. In-home tutors price the Business Bay drop-off premium into the rate; an online session simply starts at 4.45pm once the child is in the lift.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Tower access, visitor parking and lift waits add fifteen minutes at each end of an in-home visit before any teaching happens. Marina families tend to be the first to switch a language subject online, because the saved travel buys a second weekly session at the same monthly spend.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Villa communities close to several IB and British schools, so the local tutor pool is relatively deep for Maths and Science and still thin for Spanish B HL. This is the area where the gap between what is nearby and what is needed shows up most clearly.

Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Dubai Hills

The densest IB cluster in the city, which means Spanish B candidates here are often in the same cohort and chasing the same two or three known tutors before the May session. Booking in September costs less than booking in February for exactly that reason.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Long internal drives inside the community, plus gate access, so an in-home tutor's effective hourly cost climbs further than the published rate suggests. Weekend morning sessions are easier here than weekday evenings, and online slots make Friday mornings usable.

Mirdif and Dubai Festival City

Mixed curriculum catchment with IB, Indian and British schools within a few kilometres, so sibling sets often need two different language courses at once. Running both online removes the problem of a single tutor's travel window deciding both children's timetable.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Furthest from the tutor supply that clusters around Al Barsha and Jumeirah, which is where in-home premiums bite hardest in this city. Families here see the largest difference between an online quote and a visiting-tutor quote for the same qualification.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and the Dubai Hills corridor

This corridor holds the heaviest concentration of Diploma candidates in Dubai, and Group 2 demand here peaks twice a year: once in October when DP1 students meet Paper 2 listening properly, and again in January when DP2 mock results land. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the component and the deadline

Spanish B SL or HL, which of the four components is weakest, the school's internal dates for the Individual Oral, and the week the family wants to start. Those four facts decide whether this is a weekly match, an oral block or a listening clinic, and they change the quote more than anything else you could send.

  2. 02

See the match and the rate before you commit

You get a named Group 2 teacher, their experience with Spanish B at that level, the slot they can hold on Gulf Standard Time, and the rate for that slot in AED. No block booking is required to see any of it, and nothing is charged while you decide.

  3. 03

Run the 30-minute trial lesson at no charge

One trial per family, no card details taken, and the student does a short diagnostic task rather than a sales conversation. You will have a written note afterwards saying which band descriptors the work currently misses, which is useful even if you go elsewhere.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the marking rhythm

A standing weekly or fortnightly time, a written task due between sessions, and a session note the same evening. The rhythm matters more than the hour count in Spanish B, because the marked work between lessons is where the writing mark actually moves.

  5. 05

Re-scope at the DP1 report and again at mocks

Two review points, both tied to evidence the school produces rather than to a renewal date. Hours go up, down or get reallocated between components, and if the honest answer is fewer hours we say so. A match that is not working is replaced rather than defended.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED numbers are published, not hidden

Most pages in this market quote no price at all, and the ones that do quote dollars. The bands here are in AED, labelled by provider model, read in October 2026, and clearly separated from what IB Gram itself charges, which depends on level and scope. You can use them to judge any quote, including ours.

Group 2 specialists, not general Spanish speakers

Fluency is the entry requirement, not the qualification. A Spanish B tutor needs to know what a Paper 1 band descriptor rewards, how the Individual Oral discussion is marked, and what two literary works do to an HL course. That is a narrower pool, and online delivery is how a Dubai family reaches it.

Marked work, not just talk

A written task every fortnight, returned annotated against the criteria, with a running error log the parent can read. Half the Spanish B grade sits in a paper nobody can improve by conversation alone, and the marking record is what makes progress arguable rather than felt.

Honest about what we do not do

No home visits in the UAE, no regulator approval claimed, no promised grade, no finished coursework, and no statistic on this page without a date and a source. Where a fact could not be verified, such as an IB session date, this page says so and leaves it out.

Scoped to components, so hours are not wasted

An oral block, a listening clinic and a weekly writing rhythm cost less in total than twelve months of general tuition and move the grade further, because each hour is aimed at a component with a known weighting. Scoping is the only reliable way to cut the two-year cost without cutting quality.

Timed to the Dubai school week

Sessions sit after the school run and before the evening collapses, on Gulf Standard Time, with Ramadan timings moved to post-Iftar slots by agreement rather than cancelled. Scheduling is the quiet reason most tutoring arrangements fail in this city.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Dubai cost per hour?+

Market bands read in October 2026 put a qualified language teacher working online at AED 150-300 an hour, an in-home one-to-one visit at AED 180-500 with travel inside the rate, and an IB DP Group 2 subject specialist at AED 200-450 and above. Budget platforms start near AED 45 and buy conversation practice rather than criterion marking. None of these is an IB Gram price list; our figure depends on whether the request is Standard or Higher Level and whether it covers all four components or one. Ask any provider what comes back marked, and against which criteria, before comparing rates.

Does IB Gram send a Spanish B tutor to our villa in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. Spanish B teaching for Dubai families runs one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with the text being worked on shared on screen. The practical gain is the tutor pool: instead of choosing from Group 2 teachers who live within a short drive and are free on a weekday evening, you choose from the Spanish B specialists available at that hour in a compatible time zone. For Higher Level, where two literary works sit inside the oral, that difference usually decides whether the match is a specialist at all.

Is an in-home Spanish tutor in Dubai worth the extra AED per hour?+

Sometimes, and the deciding factor is rarely the subject. An in-room adult helps with a young or reluctant learner, and helps when there is no quiet space for a laptop. For a sixteen-to-nineteen-year-old on a two-year Spanish B course, the premium mostly buys a car journey. The money spent on travel is money not spent on a Group 2 specialist, and in Dubai the specialist pool for Spanish B is small enough that proximity and expertise rarely coincide. If you do hire locally, ask directly whether the rate includes travel and what happens to the session when Sheikh Zayed Road is at a standstill.

How many Spanish B sessions a week should we budget for in DP1?+

One a fortnight is usually right in DP1 for a student who is coping, with a written task due in between so the tutor has something to mark. Weekly makes sense where there is a vocabulary debt carried over from MYP or from a two-lessons-a-week GCSE background. The pattern that works best across two years is light in DP1, heavier around the school's internal deadlines, and concentrated in the eight weeks before the May session. Buying a weekly slot from the first month of DP1 and keeping it all year is the most common way Dubai families overspend on this subject.

Do Spanish B Higher Level lessons cost more than Standard Level in Dubai?+

Yes, typically AED 50-150 an hour more, and the reason is supply rather than difficulty. Higher Level requires two literary works originally written in Spanish, and the Individual Oral is built on an extract from one of them rather than on a visual stimulus. A tutor who has taught conversational Spanish for years but never taught a Spanish novel cannot prepare a student for that discussion. The pool of people who can is small, and small pools price upwards. Before paying an HL premium, check with the DP coordinator that the level is actually settled, because changes between SL and HL are common in the first term.

Does Spanish B tuition in Dubai get more expensive closer to the May session?+

Not usually through a published surcharge, but effectively yes. A Group 2 specialist in September has gaps in the week; the same person in late January is holding slots for DP2 candidates across several Dubai schools. What a late booking loses is choice of tutor and choice of time, and the slot left over is often the one that collides with the school run. Families who fix a language slot in the first term are not getting a discount so much as avoiding scarcity. If you are booking late, be flexible on the hour and specific about the component you need.

Can one tutor cover Spanish B for one child and Spanish ab initio for another?+

Often yes, because both courses share the five prescribed themes and the same component structure, so a Group 2 teacher's preparation overlaps. What should not happen is merging the two children into one lesson: ab initio is a beginner course assessed on different expectations, and a shared hour shortchanges both. Ask whether preparation can be shared while the lessons stay separate, which is where any saving genuinely sits. Where the levels are further apart, such as Spanish B Higher Level alongside ab initio, two tutors is usually the honest answer even though it costs more.

Does a native Spanish speaker charge more than a trained Spanish B teacher?+

Frequently, and the premium does not reliably buy a better grade. Native fluency is the entry requirement for teaching Spanish B, not the qualification: the marks depend on knowing what a Paper 1 band descriptor rewards and how the Individual Oral discussion is assessed. A request for a native speaker also narrows the pool before quality has been discussed, and narrowing a pool pushes a price up. Ask about Group 2 teaching experience, marked work and familiarity with the current guide first. Accent exposure matters for the listening paper, and that is better served by varied audio than by the tutor's own passport.

Do private Spanish tutors in Dubai need a MoHRE work permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include school-registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service on its app, website or e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so this page quotes no amount. Ask any tutor whether they hold the permit.

Is VAT included in Spanish B tuition quotes in Dubai?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing, because quotes in this market are inconsistent about it. This page does not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because that depends on the provider's own position and should come from the Federal Tax Authority rather than from a tutoring website. What a parent can insist on is clarity: whether the figure quoted is the figure payable, whether it is per 60-minute hour or per 45-minute lesson, and whether cancellations inside 24 hours are charged. Those three questions remove most of the unpleasant surprises in a tutoring invoice.

Can a Spanish B tutor help with the Individual Oral without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may explain how the oral is assessed, run rehearsals against unseen stimuli, record and replay the attempt, and coach the timing so the discussion is not squeezed by an over-long presentation. A tutor may not write a script, prepare answers to the actual stimulus, or rehearse the specific extract the school will use. The oral is assessed as the student's own performance, and a scripted one is academic malpractice with consequences that land on the student. Any provider offering prepared answers for a live assessment should be declined on that basis alone.

What happens if no UAE-based Spanish B specialist is free at our time?+

We say so rather than filling the slot with a generalist. Group 2 supply in the Gulf time zone is genuinely thin for Spanish at Higher Level, and the options are a different hour with the right specialist, a compatible time zone outside the UAE, or a short wait for a slot to open. All three are offered openly with the rate attached, because an undisclosed substitution is how families end up paying a specialist rate for conversation practice. If none of the three works for your family, we will say that too.

Is there a trial lesson before we pay for Spanish B tuition?+

Yes: one 30-minute trial per family at no charge, with no card details taken and no block booking required. The student does a short diagnostic task rather than a sales call, usually a piece of writing or a timed listening set, and you receive a written note saying which band descriptors the work currently misses. That note is useful even if you decide not to continue, and you are welcome to take it to another provider. Trials are limited to one per family because they cost a tutor an unpaid half hour of preparation and marking.

How do we stop Spanish B tuition costs running away across two Diploma years?+

Set the two-year hour budget before the first lesson and allocate it by component rather than by month. A workable shape is around thirty hours in DP1 as fortnightly sessions with marked writing between them, and twenty-five in DP2 weighted towards an Individual Oral block and a listening clinic. That is roughly fifty-five hours rather than ninety, and the saving comes from scoping rather than from negotiating the rate down. Review at the DP1 report and again after mocks, using the school's own evidence, and reallocate hours instead of adding them.

What should we send when asking for a Spanish B tuition quote in Dubai?+

Five things, and a quote that arrives without asking for them is a guess. The level, Standard or Higher. The school and the DP year. The most recent Spanish grade or report comment. The school's internal date for the Individual Oral. And the two or three weekly windows that survive the school run. With those, a provider can tell you whether you need a weekly slot, an oral block or a listening clinic, and price it honestly. Without them, you will be quoted a generic hourly rate for an unspecified amount of work.

Price the job, then pick the tutor

Spanish B is a four-component course with half its marks in a paper most families never buy help for, and the hourly rate matters far less than whether the hour is aimed at the right component. The AED bands on this page are the Dubai market, read in October 2026, so you can judge any quote against them, including ours. Send the level, the school, the last report comment and the Individual Oral date, and you will get a named Group 2 teacher, a slot on Gulf Standard Time, a rate in AED, and a 30-minute trial lesson at no charge before anything is agreed. Lessons run online, one-to-one, with no home visits in the UAE.
