IB CP Tutor in Dubai

An IB CP tutor in Dubai works on a qualification almost nobody writes about: the Career-related Programme, where a student carries Diploma Programme courses, an external career-related study and a four-part core at the same time. This page takes that structure apart component by component, names what each one is actually assessed on, and says where CP candidates in Dubai lose ground. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Built around the CP core, not around a Diploma page with the word CP added
  • Reflective Project worked criterion by criterion on the student's own material

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Four moving parts, assessed four different ways

The Career-related Programme is the least documented of the three IB programmes a Dubai sixth-former can be in, and the gap in public information is wider than the gap in difficulty. Search for help with it and what comes back is Diploma Programme marketing with the letters CP substituted into the headline. That is not a small editorial failure. A CP student is assessed in at least four structurally different ways at once, by at least two different organisations, and a tutor who treats the whole thing as a Diploma with fewer subjects will spend the year teaching the wrong component.

Here is the shape. A CP student takes at least two Diploma Programme courses, graded on the familiar one-to-seven scale by the IB. They take a career-related study, which is provided and certificated by an external body rather than by the IB, so its rules, deadlines and grading are not the IB's. And they take the CP core, which has four parts: a taught course in Personal and Professional Skills, Service Learning, the Reflective Project, and Language Development. The Reflective Project is graded on a letter scale rather than a number scale. Nothing about that arrangement is intuitive, and almost nothing about it is explained to parents.

The practical consequence is that CP candidates lose ground in places a Diploma candidate never visits. The Reflective Project is the clearest example. It asks a student to identify an ethical dilemma arising from their own career-related study and examine it in depth, which means the quality of the dilemma decides the quality of the project before a word of it is produced. A student who picks a topic rather than a dilemma has already capped the mark, and no amount of later polishing recovers it. Nobody can see that from outside, which is why it is worth saying out loud on a page like this.

Personal and Professional Skills is the second place. It is a taught course with its own assessment, it sits in the timetable like a subject, and students routinely treat it as an administrative obligation until the point at which it is not. Service Learning is the third: it requires sustained engagement and documented reflection, both of which are difficult to reconstruct in April if nothing was recorded in October. Language Development runs quietly across the whole programme as a portfolio, and portfolios built retrospectively look exactly like portfolios built retrospectively.

What a CP tutor in Dubai should therefore do is unglamorous. Establish which two or three DP courses the student is sitting and at what level, and teach those properly to the published assessment shape. Separate the career-related study's deadlines from the IB's, because they are set by different bodies and collide at predictable moments. Work the Reflective Project at the dilemma stage rather than the drafting stage. Audit the Service Learning and Language Development records early enough to fix them. And be honest that structural details in this programme change between guides, so every claim on this page should be confirmed against the current CP documentation with your school's coordinator.

One more thing belongs at the top. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai, and we do not run in-person lessons anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we provide only in India. Everything described below is delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For the CP specifically that format has an unusually strong case, because the cohort is small, the component knowledge is scarce, and a family's chance of finding a tutor who has actually supervised a Reflective Project within driving distance of their villa is poor.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes run at secondary level and a Dubai student may meet two of them. The CP and the DP share courses but not structure, and the difference in structure is where the tutoring work actually sits.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma Programme courses, a career-related study delivered and certificated by an external provider, and a four-part core: Personal and Professional Skills, Service Learning, the Reflective Project and Language Development. The outcome is a CP certificate together with DP course results and the external provider's own qualification, rather than an IB Diploma.

CP provision in Dubai is thin relative to the Diploma. The emirate licenses seventeen curricula across 227 private schools, and the IB accounts for a smaller share of private-school enrolment than the British, Indian or American curricula. Ask a school directly which IB programmes it is authorised to offer rather than assuming that an IB World School offering the Diploma also runs the CP.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three normally at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. Externally examined with internally marked components moderated by the IB. The courses a CP student takes are these courses, with the same published assessment structure and the same one-to-seven grading.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six openings in 2025-26 and a 6 per cent rise in enrolment. More Diploma capacity in the emirate does not automatically mean more CP capacity, because authorisation is programme by programme.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against published criteria marked out of eight and reported as levels from one to seven. Students arriving in the CP from the MYP already understand criterion marking, which is a real advantage for the Reflective Project; students arriving from IGCSE usually do not.

Several Dubai schools run the MYP and then offer only the Diploma at sixth form, so a student who would suit the CP sometimes has to change school at sixteen to find it. That transfer, and the question of whether it is worth making, is one of the more common CP conversations a Dubai family has.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A CP student carries Diploma Programme courses, usually at Standard Level and usually chosen to sit alongside the career-related field rather than against it. These are the ones that appear most often in Dubai CP timetables, with what each one is actually assessed on.

Business Management

SL most common in CP

Written papers plus an internally assessed research component. Marks are lost on tool application rather than knowledge: a student who describes a framework without applying it to the stimulus organisation scores in the lower bands. Pairs naturally with business, hospitality and management career studies.

Psychology

SL most common in CP

Assessed on command-term precision more than recall. The difference between describe, explain and evaluate decides whole mark bands, and students routinely answer a lower command term well. Study evaluation, not study description, is where the marks sit.

Digital Society

SL most common in CP

Inquiry-led, with an internally assessed component built on real-world examples. Candidates who choose familiar examples rather than well-evidenced ones lose claim-support marks. Suits career studies in technology, media and digital operations.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Modelling and data-handling rather than proof. Technology is assumed in part of the assessment, and the common loss is unjustified rounding and context-free answers. This is the mathematics route most CP students take and the one most career fields actually use.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Textual analysis across literary and non-literary material, with an oral component. Weak scripts summarise the text; strong scripts analyse how meaning is constructed. The analytical habit here transfers directly to the Reflective Project.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL and HL

Physiology and research methods with an internally assessed investigation. Data handling and evaluation of method carry more marks than content recall. A frequent pairing with sports management and fitness career studies in this market.

Economics

SL and HL

Diagram accuracy plus evaluation. Candidates who draw correctly and evaluate thinly plateau in the middle bands. Real-world application is explicitly rewarded, which suits a CP student who already has a career-related context to draw on.

Visual Arts

SL and HL

Portfolio-based assessment with comparative and curatorial components. The recurring failure is documentation: strong work with thin process evidence scores below weaker work that is properly recorded. Pairs with design and creative-industry career studies.

Design Technology

SL and HL

Design cycle work with an internally assessed project, plus written papers. Candidates lose marks on justification rather than making: a decision that is not evidenced is treated as a decision that was not made. A natural fit with engineering and product career fields.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

Interdisciplinary, with a strong emphasis on evaluating environmental value systems. Useful to CP students because its ethical-reasoning demands overlap with what the Reflective Project is marked on, which makes the two reinforce each other rather than compete.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

CP support divides along the programme's own seams. The DP courses need subject teaching; the Reflective Project needs supervision of thinking rather than of prose; the core records need auditing early. Buying all three as one undifferentiated weekly hour is the usual mistake.

Weekly subject teaching on the DP courses

One-to-one work on the two or three Diploma Programme courses the student is sitting, taught to the published assessment shape rather than to a general syllabus sweep. Command terms, paper structure and the internally assessed component get named session time, because those are the places marks move in a Standard Level course.

  • Paper structure and command terms for the specific courses sat
  • The internally assessed component planned, not rescued
  • Past-paper work marked against the published criteria
  • A weekly note naming what moved and what did not

Reflective Project supervision from the dilemma stage

Short, front-loaded sessions at the point where the project is actually decided: identifying an ethical dilemma arising from the career-related study, testing whether it is genuinely a dilemma rather than a topic, and mapping the evidence it will need. Later sessions review the student's own drafts against the criteria without supplying any of the content.

  • Dilemma testing before any writing begins
  • Perspective mapping, so more than one position is genuinely represented
  • Criterion-by-criterion review of the student's own draft
  • A clear record of whose words are whose

A core audit block

A short diagnostic block, best bought early in the first CP year, on Personal and Professional Skills, Service Learning and Language Development together. The output is a list of what is documented, what is not, and what has to be put in place before the records become impossible to reconstruct.

  • What each core component currently has on the record
  • Which deadlines belong to the IB and which to the career-related provider
  • A simple reflection routine that survives a busy term
  • Typically three to five sessions, then stop

A final-stretch block before the session

Concentrated work in the weeks before the examined DP components, aimed at the two or three papers carrying the most available movement. Scheduled around the career-related study's own assessment points, which often sit in different months from the IB's and are the single most common source of a CP student's spring collapse.

  • Prioritised by available marks, not by subject preference
  • Two sets of deadlines mapped onto one calendar
  • Timed paper practice under real conditions
  • Honest advice when a component is already beyond recovery

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the Career-related Programme actually is, and who takes it in Dubai

  • Two or more DP courses, an external career-related study, and a four-part core
  • The award is a CP certificate, not an IB Diploma
  • IB authorisation is programme by programme; ask the school directly
  • Three distinct routes into the CP, needing three different plans

The Career-related Programme is an IB qualification for students aged roughly sixteen to nineteen that combines three things: at least two Diploma Programme courses, a career-related study delivered by an external provider, and a four-part CP core. A student who completes it receives a CP certificate alongside their DP course results and whatever qualification the external provider awards. They do not receive an IB Diploma, and the distinction matters more in a university admissions office than it does in a school corridor.

That structure exists to solve a real problem. The full Diploma asks for six subjects with three at Higher Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. It is a heavy, broad, deliberately academic load. A sixteen-year-old with a clear vocational direction and strong practical ability can be badly served by it, and the alternative in most markets is to drop the IB framework altogether for A Levels or a BTEC. The CP lets a student keep IB courses and IB-style reflective assessment while carrying a genuine career-related qualification.

In Dubai the practical question is availability rather than suitability. The emirate licenses seventeen curricula across 227 private schools, and IB enrolment is a smaller share of the private-school total than the British, Indian or American curricula. IB authorisation is granted programme by programme, so a school running the Diploma is not thereby running the CP. Families regularly discover this late, after a year of assuming their school's IB status covered everything. The only reliable answer comes from asking the school which IB programmes it is specifically authorised for.

Who ends up in the CP, in this market, falls into three groups. There are students with a settled vocational direction who chose it deliberately. There are students who began the Diploma, found three Higher Levels unsustainable, and moved across rather than out. And there are students who arrived in Dubai mid-sixth-form from a system that did not map onto the Diploma and were placed into the CP as the nearest fit. Those three groups need different tutoring, and the first thing a tutor should establish is which one is in front of them.

02

The four parts of the CP core

The core is where the CP stops resembling a lighter Diploma. It has four components and they are assessed in four different ways by at least two different bodies. Personal and Professional Skills is a taught course with its own assessment. Service Learning requires sustained engagement with documented reflection. The Reflective Project is an extended piece of work examining an ethical dilemma, graded on a letter scale. Language Development runs across the whole programme as a portfolio of evidence.

Each of these fails in a characteristic way, and the failures are mostly administrative rather than intellectual. Personal and Professional Skills fails because students treat a timetabled course as an obligation rather than a subject. Service Learning fails because the engagement happens and the reflection does not get recorded, which is indistinguishable at the deadline from the engagement not happening. The Reflective Project fails at the choice of dilemma, months before anyone looks at a draft. Language Development fails because a portfolio assembled in one weekend reads exactly like a portfolio assembled in one weekend.

What that means for tutoring is that the highest-value intervention in the CP core is an audit, and the best time to buy it is early in the first year rather than late in the second. A session that establishes what is currently documented, what the school's internal deadlines are, which deadlines belong to the career-related provider instead, and what reflection routine the student can actually sustain through a term is worth more than five sessions of rescue work in April.

Treat the detail in the table as a map rather than as a specification. Component requirements, recommended hours and criterion structures are set in the IB's current CP documentation and they change between editions. Every CP school has a coordinator whose job includes exactly this, and the correct instruction to any family is to confirm the specifics with that person before planning around them. A tutor who states hour requirements as settled fact without that caveat is guessing.

Personal and Professional SkillsA taught course covering professional conduct, ethical reasoning, intercultural understanding and applied skillsThe school, against the published course requirementsTreated as timetable filler until the assessment arrives; the vocabulary is never learned
Service LearningSustained, planned engagement with an identified community need, with reflection recorded throughoutThe school, on the evidence the student has recordedThe service happens and the reflection does not; nothing is reconstructable at the deadline
Reflective ProjectAn extended examination of an ethical dilemma arising from the student's own career-related studyMarked against published criteria and moderated externally; reported on a letter scaleA topic is chosen instead of a dilemma, which caps the mark before any writing starts
Language DevelopmentOngoing development in a language other than the student's best language, evidenced in a portfolioThe school, on the portfolio recordAssembled retrospectively, with no trace of development over time

03

The Diploma Programme courses inside a CP, and how they are graded

The courses a CP student takes are ordinary Diploma Programme courses. Same guides, same published assessment structure, same examinations, same one-to-seven grades. The only difference is how many of them there are and, usually, at what level: CP students commonly take two or three courses, frequently at Standard Level, chosen to sit alongside the career field rather than to assemble a broad academic spread. A tutor working on these courses is doing exactly what a Diploma tutor does, which is the one part of CP support that is not specialised.

What changes is prioritisation. A Diploma candidate with six subjects and three Higher Levels is managing breadth. A CP candidate with two Standard Level courses is carrying a smaller academic load but a larger administrative one, because the career-related study and the core are both live at the same time. The marks available in those two courses matter proportionally more to the overall record, and a single weak internally assessed component has nowhere to hide. That argues for front-loading the internal component rather than leaving it where most students leave it.

Course choice itself deserves a conversation. The strongest CP combinations are the ones where the DP course and the career field genuinely reinforce each other: Business Management with a business or hospitality study, Sports Exercise and Health Science with a sports study, Digital Society with a technology study, Design Technology with an engineering one. Environmental Systems and Societies is an underrated choice for a CP student because its demands on evaluating value systems overlap directly with what the Reflective Project is marked on, so the two components teach each other.

The table below sets out the course groups CP students in Dubai most often draw from, the typical choices inside each, and where the marks actually move. Weightings and component structures vary by subject and by guide edition; confirm the current figures for your child's specific courses with the school before building a revision plan around them.

04

The Reflective Project: an ethical dilemma, and the criteria that mark it

The Reflective Project is the component that most distinguishes the CP, and it is the one most commonly handled badly. It asks the student to identify an ethical dilemma arising from an issue in their own career-related study and examine it in depth over an extended period, producing a substantial piece of work assessed against published criteria and reported on a letter scale rather than as a number out of seven.

Almost everything that decides the final letter happens in the first fortnight. An ethical dilemma is not a topic and it is not a problem; it is a situation in which two defensible positions conflict and something has to give. A student who writes about the environmental impact of the construction industry has a topic. A student who writes about whether a site manager should report a safety breach that will halt a project and cost colleagues their income has a dilemma. The second project can reach the top bands and the first cannot, however well it is written, because the criteria reward the examination of competing positions.

A supervisor's job at that stage is to test, not to supply. Useful tests are blunt. Can you state the two positions in one sentence each? Can you name a person who would hold each one, and what they would lose? Is there evidence available for both sides, or only for the one you already agree with? Would someone reasonable disagree with your conclusion? A student who cannot answer those questions does not have a dilemma yet, and the honest thing a tutor can do is say so in week two rather than in month four.

After that the work is the student's and must remain so. A tutor reads what the student has produced, maps it against each criterion, and names what is missing. A tutor does not supply sentences, restructure paragraphs into their own prose, or research the counter-position on the student's behalf. This is the same academic-honesty principle that governs assessed work throughout the IB, and the record of sessions should make it obvious which words are the student's and which are feedback. Criterion names, mark allocations and length requirements are set in the current CP documentation and should be confirmed with the school.

05

Personal and Professional Skills, and the Language Development portfolio

  • Define the course's concepts in the student's own words, then apply them to real placement situations
  • Connect Personal and Professional Skills ethics directly to the Reflective Project
  • Language Development is a record of change over time, not a folder of artefacts
  • Set a short dated reflection routine in the first term and check it monthly

Personal and Professional Skills is a taught course and the single most underestimated part of the CP. It sits in the timetable like a subject, it has its own content and its own assessment, and it covers professional conduct, ethical reasoning, intercultural understanding, communication and applied skills. Students treat it as an administrative requirement because it does not look like Business Management, and then meet an assessment that expects them to use its vocabulary accurately. Schools commonly timetable a substantial number of hours for it; confirm the current requirement with your coordinator rather than assuming.

The tutoring work here is mostly translation. The course's concepts have precise meanings and students use them loosely, which is exactly the failure mode that costs marks in any criterion-assessed component. A session spent making a student define intercultural understanding in their own words and then apply it to a real situation from their own placement does more than a session spent reviewing notes. The overlap with the Reflective Project is substantial: the ethical reasoning taught here is the reasoning the project is marked on, and students who connect the two get two components for the price of one.

Language Development is quieter and easier to neglect. It asks for ongoing development in a language other than the student's best language, evidenced in a portfolio. In Dubai this is often genuinely useful rather than nominal, because a large share of students are already operating across Arabic, English and a home language, and because the emirate's schools teach Arabic as a mandatory subject in any case. The difficulty is evidence over time. A portfolio is a record of development, and a record assembled in a single weekend shows it.

The practical fix for both components is the same and it is dull: a short, repeatable routine set up early. Ten minutes of dated reflection a week, in whatever form the student will actually maintain, produces at the deadline something no amount of concentrated effort can reconstruct. A tutor can set that routine up, check it monthly, and name the gap while it is still a gap. This is unglamorous work and it is the highest-return hour a CP family buys.

06

Service Learning: the component left until it is too late

  • The requirement is sustained engagement with recorded reflection, not accumulated hours
  • Undocumented service is, at the deadline, indistinguishable from no service
  • Commercial geography in Dubai decides what is realistically reachable on a school night
  • A monthly check costs minutes and saves the component

Service Learning asks for planned, sustained engagement with an identified community need, with reflection recorded through the process rather than summarised afterwards. It is not volunteering hours and it is not a charity drive, although both can form part of it. The emphasis is on identifying a need with the community rather than for it, acting over time, and showing what the student learned and how their thinking changed.

The failure is almost always documentation rather than activity. Dubai students are generally busy and generally engaged; schools here run substantial service programmes and many students are involved in more than the CP requires. What does not happen is the recording. A student who spent eight months supporting a literacy programme and wrote nothing down has, at the deadline, the same evidence as a student who did nothing, and no supervisor can honestly sign off what cannot be shown. This is the single most recoverable loss in the CP and the one most often left unrecovered.

The geography of Dubai matters here in a way it does not for tutoring. A placement or service partner has to be physically reachable on a school night, and the emirate's commercial clusters are not evenly distributed. Students in Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis or Media City have options within a short radius. Students in Dubai Investments Park or Jebel Ali lose more of the evening to travel than anyone else, and their plans need to account for it rather than assume it away.

What a tutor contributes is structure and honesty. Structure means a reflection prompt the student will actually answer, a monthly check, and a format that matches what the school will accept. Honesty means saying when a plan is too thin to produce a defensible record, and saying it early. It also means staying out of the activity itself: the service is the student's, the reflection is the student's, and a supervisor who helps compose the reflection has removed the only thing being assessed.

07

CP, the full Diploma, A Levels and BTEC compared for a Dubai sixth form

Most Dubai families arrive at the CP question from the other direction: they are deciding between sixth-form routes and want to know what the CP gives up and what it buys. The honest comparison is structural rather than evaluative, because the right answer depends entirely on the student. A broad academic load suits some sixteen-year-olds and damages others, and a vocational route that is a sensible match for one university plan is a dead end for another.

The full Diploma offers breadth, three Higher Levels, and the widest recognition. It is also the heaviest load and the least forgiving if a student's strengths are uneven. A Levels offer depth in three or four subjects with no required core, which suits a student who already knows what they want and is comfortable dropping everything else. A BTEC or similar vocational qualification offers applied assessment, often coursework-weighted, with a direct line into related employment and into some degree routes but not all.

The CP sits between them in a specific way: IB courses and IB-style reflective assessment, plus a genuine vocational certification, plus a core that is explicitly about professional conduct and ethical reasoning. What it gives up is the IB Diploma itself and the breadth that comes with six subjects. What it adds, and this is the part most comparisons miss, is a documented record of reflective and ethical reasoning tied to real work, which some admissions processes and most employers read more readily than a grade profile.

The thing to check before choosing is the destination, not the programme. University recognition for the CP is not uniform across institutions or countries, and the UAE's own equivalency route treats curricula differently. Write down the three or four destinations the student is actually considering, then ask each one in writing what it does with a CP certificate plus DP course grades plus the external qualification. That takes a fortnight and settles the question better than any comparison table, including this one.

UAE equivalency and university admission for a CP graduate

A UAE secondary qualification normally has to be recognised through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process before it can be used for university admission or for certain employment purposes here. The rules are published by curriculum track, and they are specific. For the British track, a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

For the American track the published requirements include an English proficiency threshold, met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and a mathematics requirement of at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. These figures are sourced and quotable. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a requirement of six IGCSE subjects for UAE candidates, which does not match the published rule; being correct on a detail like that is worth more than any amount of reassurance.

For the IB, and specifically for the Career-related Programme, no equivalency figure is published that this page can stand behind. The sourced material on equivalency does not state an IB points threshold at all, and nothing available states how a CP certificate plus DP course grades plus an external vocational qualification is treated. Anyone telling you confidently what the CP converts to in the UAE should be asked for the moe.gov.ae page it comes from. The correct route is to check with the Ministry of Education or the emirate's attestation channel directly, and with each target university's own admissions office.

Two cautions follow from this. Equivalency is a regulatory process carried out by the authority, not something a tutoring service performs, guarantees or accelerates; our role is to describe it and point you at the official channel. And nobody should imply that tutoring is required for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. It is not, and framing a regulatory process as something that needs purchasing is the kind of false urgency this market has too much of already.

A thin cohort, and what that means for finding a CP tutor in Dubai

The CP is a small programme. That is the plain reason this page exists and the plain reason it has to be honest about coverage. A family looking for someone who has actually supervised a Reflective Project, or who knows what Personal and Professional Skills assesses, is looking for a narrow specialism inside an already narrow programme. Searching for that person within a twenty-minute drive of a Dubai villa is a poor use of a short list, which is the practical argument for the format we use rather than a marketing one.

What we will say plainly is what we have and what we do not. DP course teaching at Standard Level in the subjects CP students commonly take is well covered, because those are ordinary Diploma courses. Reflective Project supervision, extended reflective writing and ethical reasoning are covered by tutors who do that work in the Diploma core as well. The career-related study itself is not ours to teach: it belongs to an external provider with its own syllabus, its own assessors and its own calendar, and a tutor who claims to cover it should be asked which provider and which qualification.

When a specialist is not free, we say so rather than matching whoever is available. That costs us enquiries and it is the right position; the alternative is a family paying specialist rates for general support, which is the most common quiet failure in this market. Where a component genuinely needs the school rather than a tutor, the honest answer is the school: a CP coordinator can confirm requirements, deadlines and acceptable evidence formats in one conversation, and no external party can do that for them.

Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the career-related study and the placement rather than against them. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai and holds no centre, office or branch anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. We state that here rather than after an enquiry, because two providers found in this market route UAE families to numbers outside the UAE without disclosing it, and disclosure is the cheapest trust signal available.

Where we tutor

Where Dubai CP families are, and what the geography actually affects

For a CP student the relevant geography is not the drive to a tutor. It is the reach of the career-related study and the Service Learning placement, both of which are physical, timetabled and local. Session timing then has to fit around them.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Dense commercial districts within reach of several sixth forms, which makes business, finance and hospitality placements practical on a weekday afternoon. Students here often need late-evening session slots because the placement eats the obvious hours.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Technology and higher-education employers alongside schools, so digital and engineering career studies are easier to arrange here than almost anywhere else in the emirate. Service Learning partners are frequently on the same campus cluster.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Established eastern districts with large school populations and a short commute to Deira's commercial base. Placement options skew towards retail, logistics and healthcare support, which shapes the kind of ethical dilemma a Reflective Project can credibly examine.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Residential districts feeding several sixth forms, with hospitality and creative-sector placements along the coastal strip. Traffic on the main arteries at 16:00 is the practical constraint on any in-person arrangement here, including placements.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Sports, fitness and motorsport operations in the same catchment as the schools, which makes this the most natural part of Dubai for a sports-related career study and a Sports, Exercise and Health Science pairing.

Dubai Investments Park and Jebel Ali

Industrial and logistics employers with genuine operational scale, and the longest internal commutes in the emirate. Students here lose more time to travel than anyone else, which is why their tutoring tends to be scheduled late and short.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Family districts with a high proportion of Arabic-first households and a strong pull towards healthcare and public-sector career fields. Language Development portfolios here are often genuinely bilingual rather than nominally so.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Dubai Media City

Media, marketing and professional-services employers immediately beside a dense residential population, so creative and communications career studies are straightforward to arrange. Evening session slots are the norm because parents and students both commute late.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Emirates Hills

The emirate's densest cluster of IB World Schools. Families enquiring about the Career-related Programme most often come from this group, whether or not the school itself is authorised for the CP. Authorisation is programme by programme, so ask the school which IB programmes it actually runs rather than inferring it from a Diploma offering.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Raffles World Academy

Academic City, Dubai Festival City and the eastern corridor

IB and American-curriculum sixth forms sitting close to the universities and to a real commercial base, which is the combination a career-related study needs. Several families in this cluster arrive at the CP conversation after deciding a full Diploma with three Higher Levels is not the right load.

  • Universal American School
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Uptown International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Dubai Silicon Oasis, Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Newer sixth-form provision with technology and professional employers nearby. This is where the career-related study and the Service Learning placement are easiest to keep inside one geography, which matters more to a CP student's week than the location of their tutor does.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai

Schools are named only as context for the Dubai sixth-form market. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school, group, board or regulator mentioned on this page, and names no school as a CP provider.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us which components are live

Send the two or three DP courses and their levels, the career-related study and its provider, and where the Reflective Project currently stands. A single message with that in it is worth more than a long description of the student, because it tells us immediately which of the four CP core components needs the first session.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with a diagnostic job

One free trial lesson per family, nothing to pay and no card required. For a CP student the trial usually tests two things: how precisely they use the vocabulary of their taught courses, and whether their Reflective Project rests on a dilemma or on a topic. Both answers change the plan.

  3. 03

    Two calendars on one page

We map the IB component deadlines and the career-related provider's assessment points onto a single calendar, because they are set by different bodies and collide at predictable moments. Most CP spring crises are a scheduling failure rather than an academic one, and this step prevents a share of them.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with a visible record

Each session ends with the student's own work, the feedback against the published criteria, and a note of what to attempt next. The student's words and the tutor's feedback stay visibly separate, which matters for every assessed component and matters most for the Reflective Project.

  5. 05

A review at six weeks, and an honest verdict

At six weeks we compare against the diagnostic from the trial and say what has moved. If a component is beyond useful recovery we say so and redirect the hours to one that is not. If the right answer is the school's CP coordinator rather than a tutor, we say that too.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Built on the CP's own structure

The page and the teaching follow the four core components and the DP courses as they are actually assessed, rather than treating the CP as a Diploma with subjects removed. That distinction is the whole reason a CP family struggles to find useful help in this market.

The Reflective Project worked at the dilemma stage

Most of the final letter is decided in the first fortnight, when the dilemma is chosen. We test it with blunt questions early and refuse to move on until it holds, which is less comfortable than drafting and considerably more useful.

Structural claims flagged, not asserted

Component requirements, criterion letters and recommended hours live in the IB's current CP documentation and change between editions. Everything structural on this page is marked for confirmation with your school's coordinator, because a confident wrong number is worse than a hedged right one.

Two sets of deadlines treated as two sets

The career-related study is run by an external provider with its own calendar and its own assessors. We map those dates against the IB's instead of assuming they are the same, which is where a surprising number of CP spring collapses actually originate.

The academic honesty boundary stated and kept

A tutor tests, questions and gives feedback on what the student has produced. No part of a Reflective Project, a reflection or a portfolio is supplied by us, and the session record makes clear which words belong to whom.

Coverage stated before you pay

Standard Level DP course teaching is well covered; Reflective Project supervision takes longer to match; the career-related qualification is not ours to teach. If nobody suitable is free, we say so rather than matching whoever is available.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is the IB Career-related Programme, in plain terms?+

It is an IB qualification for students roughly sixteen to nineteen that combines at least two Diploma Programme courses, a career-related study delivered and certificated by an external provider, and a four-part core: Personal and Professional Skills, Service Learning, the Reflective Project and Language Development. The student leaves with a CP certificate, their DP course grades on the usual one-to-seven scale, and the external provider's own qualification. It is not an IB Diploma, and that difference matters to admissions offices. Confirm the current component requirements with your school's CP coordinator, because they are set in IB documentation that changes between editions.

Which Dubai schools offer the IB Career-related Programme?+

Ask each school directly, because IB authorisation is granted programme by programme and a school running the Diploma is not automatically running the CP. This catches families out every year. Dubai licenses seventeen curricula across 227 private schools, and IB enrolment is a smaller share of the private-school total than the British, Indian or American curricula, so CP provision is thin in absolute terms. We will not name a school as a CP provider on this page, because stating a school's authorisation without verifying it against the school's own information would be exactly the error we criticise competitors for making.

How is the Reflective Project graded compared with a DP subject?+

Differently, and this surprises most families. Diploma Programme courses are graded one to seven. The Reflective Project is assessed against published criteria and reported on a letter scale, which means a student's record carries two different kinds of result side by side. The practical implication is that the project cannot be mentally averaged into a subject profile; it is read separately. Criterion letters, mark allocations and length requirements sit in the current CP documentation, so confirm them with your coordinator before planning around a particular total.

What counts as an ethical dilemma for the Reflective Project?+

A situation in which two defensible positions genuinely conflict and something has to be given up. Not a topic, and not a problem with an obvious right answer. The environmental impact of construction is a topic. Whether a site manager should report a safety breach that will halt a project and cost colleagues their income is a dilemma, because both choices have a real cost and a reasonable person could take either. The criteria reward examining competing positions, so a weak dilemma caps the mark before any writing begins. Test it in the first fortnight.

Can a tutor help with the Reflective Project without crossing a line?+

Yes, and the line is clear. A tutor can test whether the dilemma holds, ask where the counter-evidence is, role-play the opposing position aloud, map the student's own draft against each criterion, and name what is missing. A tutor cannot supply sentences, rewrite paragraphs into their own prose, or research the other side on the student's behalf. The work has to be the student's, in the student's words, from the student's notes. Our session records keep the student's text and the tutor's feedback visibly separate so that the distinction is checkable rather than asserted.

Is the CP easier than the full IB Diploma?+

It is lighter academically and heavier administratively, which is not the same as easier. A full Diploma candidate carries six subjects with three at Higher Level plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. A CP candidate carries two or three courses but also an external vocational qualification with its own calendar, a taught professional-skills course, a documented service requirement, a language portfolio and an extended ethical project. Students who struggle with the CP usually struggle with the number of simultaneous obligations rather than with the difficulty of any one of them.

Why do CP students in Dubai run into trouble in the spring?+

Because two calendars collide. The IB sets deadlines for the core components, and the career-related study's external provider sets its own assessment points under its own rules. Those dates are not coordinated, and in most CP years they converge in the same few weeks as the examined DP components. A student working to one mental calendar meets three deadlines at once. Mapping both sets of dates onto a single page early in the first year is dull, takes one session, and prevents a meaningful share of the crises we are called about in March and April.

What does Personal and Professional Skills actually assess?+

It is a taught course covering professional conduct, ethical reasoning, intercultural understanding, communication and applied skills, with its own assessment against the published course requirements. Students treat it as timetable filler because it does not look like a subject, then meet an assessment that expects precise use of its vocabulary. The useful tutoring here is translation: making a student define each concept in their own words and apply it to a real situation from their own placement. The ethical reasoning taught in this course is the reasoning the Reflective Project is marked on, so the two reinforce each other.

How much Service Learning does the CP require, and how is it recorded?+

The requirement is sustained, planned engagement with an identified community need, with reflection recorded throughout rather than summarised at the end. Confirm the current specifics with your school, because requirements are set in IB documentation that changes. What matters practically is the record. Dubai students are generally busy and generally engaged, and the component almost never fails on activity. It fails because nothing was written down, and at a deadline an undocumented eight months looks identical to no months at all. A dated ten-minute weekly reflection solves it at almost no cost.

What is the Language Development portfolio and how do we build one properly?+

It evidences ongoing development in a language other than the student's best language, across the whole programme. The point is the trajectory, not the folder: a portfolio assembled in one weekend is visibly a portfolio assembled in one weekend. In Dubai this component is often genuinely substantive, because many students already operate across Arabic, English and a home language, and because Arabic is a mandatory subject in all Dubai private schools whatever curriculum they are licensed for. Set up a short dated routine in the first term and check it monthly; nothing else reconstructs a record of change over time.

Which DP courses go best with a career-related study?+

The ones that reinforce the career field rather than sit beside it. Business Management with a business or hospitality qualification, Sports Exercise and Health Science with a sports study, Digital Society with a technology study, Design Technology with an engineering one. Environmental Systems and Societies is an underrated choice for any CP student because its demands on evaluating competing value systems overlap directly with the Reflective Project's criteria, so the two components teach each other. Economics and Psychology both work widely. Confirm which courses your school actually timetables for CP students before planning around a combination.

Will UAE universities accept an IB Career-related Programme certificate?+

Check each one in writing, and check the Ministry of Education's equivalency route separately. The sourced equivalency material available for this page sets out requirements for the British and American tracks but states no IB points threshold and says nothing about a CP certificate, so no figure can honestly be published here. Anyone who tells you confidently what the CP converts to should be asked for the moe.gov.ae page it came from. Write down the three or four destinations the student is actually considering and ask each one how it treats a CP certificate plus DP course grades plus the external qualification.

Does the career-related study come from the IB as well?+

No, and this is one of the most useful things to understand about the programme. The career-related study is provided and certificated by an external body, not by the IB. Its syllabus, its assessors, its deadlines, its grading and its appeals process are all its own. A tutor who claims to cover your child's career-related study should be asked which provider and which qualification they mean, because the answer is specific and checkable. We do not teach it, and we say so rather than taking the enquiry and working it out afterwards.

My child started the full Diploma and cannot carry three Higher Levels. Is moving to the CP sensible?+

Sometimes, and it is a decision to make with the school rather than from a website. Moving across keeps IB courses and IB-style reflective assessment while replacing breadth with a vocational certification, which suits a student whose direction is settled and whose strengths are uneven. Two things to establish first. Whether the school is authorised for the CP at all, since Diploma authorisation does not cover it. And how each of the student's realistic university destinations treats a CP certificate, in writing. Get both answers before the transfer rather than after.

Why are CP lessons online when I searched for a tutor in Dubai?+

Because the cohort is small and the specialism is narrow, and because we would rather say so than quietly. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai and holds no centre, office or branch anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson is one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For the CP the format matters more than usual: finding someone who has supervised a Reflective Project within driving distance of a particular Dubai community is a poor use of a short list, and geography should not decide which specialist a family reaches.

Start by telling us which component is actually the problem

Send the DP courses and their levels, the career-related study and its provider, and one line on where the Reflective Project stands. The trial lesson is free, one per family, with nothing to pay and no card required, and for a CP student it works as a diagnostic: how precisely the student uses their taught courses' vocabulary, and whether the project rests on a dilemma or on a topic. After it you get a written plan, both calendars on one page, and an honest statement of what we cover and what belongs with your school's CP coordinator instead.
